Alexa Chung Brings Thanksgiving to London

THE BRIT TAKE: Alexa Chung brought a taste of New York to London with a Thanksgiving celebration to kick off the holiday season. “I’m calling it Chungsgiving — I’ve taken Thanksgiving, as if the British haven’t done enough to plunder,” Chung said, while getting ready at the penthouse of the London Edition Hotel, where she hosted the dinner.
“I’ve lived in New York and experienced quite a few Thanksgivings over there. I never had any family living with me, so what the holiday meant to me was bringing your friends together and making a makeshift family of all the expats floating around.” Thursday evening’s makeshift family included Serafina Sama of Isa Arfen, Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie of Pop & Suki, Jack Guinness, Jeanne Damas, Pixie Geldof and Camille Charriere.
“I’ve missed how Thanksgiving in New York used to feel. It’s the one time of the year when it’s not a religious holiday, it’s just the beginning of the holiday season, where you can celebrate it with your mates, get drunk, feel cozy,” added Chung.
Everyone certainly got cozy. The evening kicked off with rounds of American whiskey punch, followed by a turkey dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. To top it off,

Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung, Bobby Abley Join London Fashion Week Schedule

LONDON — Victoria Beckham is just one of the new names to join the London Fashion Week women’s calendar in September, according to the preliminary LFW schedule, which is now on the British Fashion Council’s web site.
Other newcomers include Alexa Chung, who has been eschewing the traditional show schedule in favor of themed events hosted around the world and a see-now-buy-now format, and men’s wear talents Bobby Abley and Kiko Kostadinov.
Burberry will host its seasonal show on Sept. 17 and though not new to the lineup, all eyes will be on the brand this season since this will be the first show from new creative director Riccardo Tisci.
Beckham will host her spring 2019 show in London on the morning of Sept. 16 and mark the 10-year anniversary of her business. The company also said that more events, exclusive pieces and other activations will take place throughout the year to celebrate the brand’s decade.
The contemporary label Rixo London, best known for its mid-priced printed dresses, will be hosting a see-now-buy-now presentation during the five-day event, which runs from September 14 to 18, while emerging men’s wear labels Bobby Abley and Kiko Kostadinov are also taking the September plunge as they dip

Xbox One Reportedly Getting Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant Support

Microsoft is reportedly looking to add Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant functionality to Xbox One.

Windows Central received a photo showing digital assistant support for Xbox One. And this is on top of the site hearing from sources that Microsoft was bringing Alexa compatibility to the console.

While Xbox One does feature Cortana, Microsoft discontinued Kinect last year. And then earlier this year, the company stopped production on the Kinect adapter for Xbox One S and X. So Alexa and Google Assistant functionality would offer more options for voice controls on Xbox One.

Alexa Chung Presents ‘Prom Gone Wrong’

PARIS — Fog machines, a live band playing cheesy Eighties hits against a gold metallic fringe curtain marked with “Class of 2017,” with one wonky S hanging down. A bunch of kids slow dancing surrounded by knocked-over chairs, an explosion of glitter and confetti, and pastel party balloons stuck to the ceiling.
That was the setting for the Paris launch of the second collection of Alexa Chung’s signature line, dubbed Prom Gone Wrong, held in the hall of the Jacques-Decour high school during Paris Fashion Week.

Channeling “Molly Ringwald and Eighties teen flick utopia meets a Tatleresque Liz Hurley when she was younger,” highlights from the young-at-heart see-now-buy-now line, which is already on sale, include a black velvet jacquard suit, fun slogan T-shirts, tailored shirts, oversized trench coats — and Chung’s favorite piece: the “Dorothy” ruffled gingham dress.
Here Chung, whose own look for the night was a black satin bustier dress and chunky pearl choker, talks to WWD about her career path and inspirations.

Perry Ellis Partners With Amazon Alexa

Perry Ellis is tapping into the voice activation market.
The men’s wear brand has teamed with Amazon to create an “Ask Perry Ellis” skill, or a set of built-in capabilities, that works with the voice-activated Amazon Alexa device to offer styling suggestions for various occasions.
“Over the years, we’ve seen men’s dressing habits evolve from wearing clothes for one specific occasion to the need to wear clothes for many different occasions,” said Melissa Worth, Perry Ellis’ president, before presenting the new technology on Thursday morning at The Standard Hotel in New York’s East Village. “At Perry Ellis, we are committed to providing solutions that are going to help him feel comfortable, look stylish and be appropriately dressed for any occasion on his calendar.”
According to Worth, after surveying a group of men, the team at Perry Ellis found that 81 percent of them had challenges getting dressed and 45 percent said the biggest struggle was getting dressed for a specific event and making sure they were appropriately dressed.
Perry Ellis is hoping to remedy this with “Ask Perry Ellis,” which allows men to ask Alexa what to wear for a particular event — the skill is programmed to respond to 150 different occasions ranging

Teenager Alexa Curtis, Who Considered Suicide at 15, Reacts to 13 Reasons Why

At 15 years old and the target of incessant cyberbullies, Alexa Curtis nearly ended it all.

But she survived — and now, at the age of 19, she oversees the non-profit Media Impact and Navigation for Teens, a program to raise awareness about online bullying.

When Curtis, who is also a fashion blogger, decided to watch Netflix’s new series 13 Reasons Why, she never expected she’d be so critical of it.

“That last episode , I had so many moments where I thought, ‘This is what I wanted to do,’ ” Curtis explains to PEOPLE. “I am so glad I didn’t watch this at 15, because I probably would have done something.”

The 13-episode series, based on Jay Asher’s hit young adult novel of the same name, premiered on March 31 and centers on the contents of 13 cassette tapes left behind by high school student Hannah Baker, who killed herself after making the tapes for the people she felt were responsible.

“It makes look like an easy way out,” Curtis says, “and lots of girls I’ve spoken to say it hits too close to home — that it was just too alarming to watch, as it depicted situations they had been in before.”

The show was well-received by critics for its unflinching look at the dark side of teenage relationships — including alcohol and drug use and sexual assault — and it has been the focus of intense social media conversation.

But that attention has also bolstered the controversy it faces for its depiction of self-harm.

“I thought that the show was, in a way, glamorizing teen suicide,” Curtis tells PEOPLE. “The fact that Hannah Baker is living on through these tapes, that her voice is still echoing on … that gives a bad presentation.”

This week, Netflix announced a decision to add a warning to the show before it can be viewed and to strengthen its episode advisories.

“Entertainment has always been the ultimate connector,” the network said in a statement, “and we hope that 13 Reasons Why can serve as a catalyst for conversation.”

“We worked with experts to show how these issues impact teens in real and dramatic ways,” Netflix said.

Dr. Victor Schwartz, chief medical officer at the suicide prevention non-profit JED Foundation, agrees that the series “created great conversation.”

“But now suicide is what happens when people wrong you,” he says.

• For more on 13 Reasons Why and what parents need to know, subscribe now to PEOPLE or pick up this week’s issue, on newsstands now.

As someone who grappled with suicidal thoughts, Curtis tells PEOPLE that families should get involved and ask questions.

“A lot of young adults have already watched the show, so parents should immediately talk to their kids and ask them things like, ‘How did it make you feel?’ ” she says.” ‘Do you know any friends who are going through this sort of thing? What would you do if you saw someone inappropriately touching your friend?’ ”

“I think parents should check in with their kids every week,” Curtis says, “just ask them, ‘How are you feeling? Do you ever feel depressed like Hannah does on the show?’ ”

She says that while the topic of suicide may be sensitive — and statistics show it is a leading cause of death for people ages 10-24 — silence could do more harm than good.

That recommendation is echoed by mental health experts who say reaching out to someone in need is a simple but highly effective suicide prevention technique.

“Uncomfortable issues will come up for teens” who have seen the show, Curtis says. “They may self-harm, which is not the best route to go. Parents need to talk to their children. They need to be a friend and a parent at the same time now and make their kids comfortable with opening up.”

If you or someone you know is showing warning signs of suicide, consider contacting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK, texting “HOME” to the Crisis Text Line at 741741 or seeking help from a professional.
