Holly Madison Splits from Husband Pasquale Rotella After Almost 5 Years of Marriage: Sources

Holly Madison and Pasquale Rotella are going their separate ways almost five years after their fairytale wedding, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

An insider says the pair split over the summer, with another source revealing that Madison is now based in Los Angeles and “doing okay.”

A rep for Madison did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The former Playboy model and Electric Daisy Carnival founder began dating in 2011, welcoming daughter Rainbow Aurora in March 2013.

The couple tied the knot in October 2013 in an extravagant Disneyland ceremony — they even rode in Cinderella’s glass pumpkin coach — and welcomed a second child, son Forest Leonardo Antonio, in August 2016.

Madison, 38, met Rotella, 44, after leaving the Playboy Mansion — and boyfriend Hugh Hefner, who died in September 2017 at the age of 91 — in 2008, moving to Las Vegas to pursue a career as a burlesque dancer.

After a string of failed relationships, Madison said she was afraid she might never find “the one.”

“I wondered, ‘Is this because I spent my 20s at the Mansion?’ I worried I missed my chance because I was there the whole time,” she explained.  “I got to a point where I was trying to adjust my mindset and think, ‘Okay, am I going to be happy without that picture of marriage and family?’ The hardest part was just feeling really alone.”

She added of finding romance with Rotella, “I love looking back and seeing the silver lining in the clouds. Everything happens for a reason.”

Jesse Williams Granted Joint Physical Custody of Children Almost 1 Year After Divorce Filing

Almost a year after he filed for divorce, the custody agreement between Jesse Williams and Aryn Drake-Lee has been ordered.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Williams and Drake-Lee were granted joint physical custody of daughter Sadie, 4, and son Maceo, 2½. Last summer, the pair was granted joint legal custody of their two children.

The documents outline a specific custodial schedule for the months when Williams, 36, is filming Grey’s Anatomy, as well as a separate schedule for when the show is not in production.

Williams and Drake-Lee will alternate custody of the kids for major holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday and the Fourth of July.

The documents also states that Williams and Drake-Lee are to “communicate exclusively through OurFamilyWizard,” which is a website designed to facilitate communications between divorced or separated parents in order to remove conflict and improve the lives of the children involved. (Communicating via text message or phone is permitted “in the event of an emergency,” according to the order.)

Williams wed Drake-Lee, a real estate broker, in Los Angeles in September 2012. At the time, they had been dating for over five years. They first met while Williams was working as a teacher in New York.

After five years of marriage, Williams filed for divorce in April 2017.

In January, Williams has agreed to pay Drake-Lee $ 50,695 per month in spousal support, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Ring Purchased At Garage Sale May Be Worth Almost Half A Million Dollars

Shopping at garage sales can be hit or miss, but one lucky customer is cashing in on a major find.

Sotheby’s will auction off a sparkly cocktail ring a woman bought at a car boot sale in 1980s England next month with a starting bid of £250,000 (roughly $ 325,000). She had thought for decades that it was costume jewelry and wore it without a care in the world, revealed the owner, who declined to be named publicly, the auction house said this week.

The woman had purchased the piece for £10 at a garage sale at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth in west London, according to Sotheby’s. She decided in recent months to have the ring appraised after a jeweler said the stone could be real.

Sotheby’s Jewelry in London confirmed the stone’s authenticity ― a 19th century 26.27-carat, cushion-shaped white diamond. The auction house added that the stone has a color grade of I and an impressive clarity grade of VVS2. The ring could go for as much as £350,000 (about $ 450,000).

“We confirmed that it was indeed a diamond. We got it tested with the Gemological Institute of America … and that then dictated the price,” said Sotheby’s Jessica Wyndham, who heads the auction house’s jewelry department.

In the interview in the video above, Wyndham added that it was understandable the owner did not know the ring held a real diamond.

“It was in an antique style mount, so it was quite heavy,” she said. “It is mounted in silver around the top and when silver becomes tarnished it becomes quite black. And that mixed with the cut of the stone probably would have meant that it didn’t sparkle very much, and if it was all dirty, you just wouldn’t think that was real.”

The ring will hit auction on June 7.

This Mom’s Food Art For Her Kid Looks (Almost) Too Good To Eat

Worried about her daughter’s eating habits, one mom turned mealtime into a fun art display.

California mom Kim Anh Chang began creating food art in April for her 2-year-old daughter, Sam. Chang told HuffPost she was concerned about Sam’s “finicky appetite” so she set out to help spark her interest in food in a healthy and creative way.

“I figured if I plate her dishes into something cute she will show more interest in eating it,” she said. “My goal is to create artful dishes to help my finicky eater share the same meals as the rest of the family. I want her to grow up getting use to eating what everyone else is eating and not have to make a separate meal just for her.”

Chang’s dishes include Lambie from “Doc McStuffins” made out of chicken and noodles and Rapunzel made out of noodles, ham and cheese. Chang told HuffPost she takes inspiration for her food art from Sam’s interests, which include teddy bears and Disney characters. The toddler also helps her mom come up with ideas.

“The Lambie one was actually her idea,” she said. “I was Googling cute characters to see what I should make next. Sam was sitting next to me and showing a lot of interest. She then grabbed the Lambie toy from her playpen and gave it to me. I immediately knew what to do and prepared dinner shortly after.”

Sam also helps her mom out in the kitchen, just like Chang helped her family as a kid.

“I grew up taking turns with my sister making dinner for the entire family (10 total) since I was 12 or 13,” she said.

Chang shares her tasty creations on Facebook and Instagram under the name Plate Art for Kids. She also shares tutorials for the dishes that feature Sam on YouTube.

Since starting her food art journey, Chang has noticed her daughter taking an interest in cooking with her.

“She absolutely loves it!” she told HuffPost. “Especially when I take out the pasta maker machine.”

The toddler’s eating habits have improved, and most importantly, the project has given the mom and daughter an opportunity to spend time together.

“Having her help me cook and showing her to do these things herself gives her a sense of accomplishment and I noticed she’s wanting to eat more and more and looks forward to the time we can spend in the kitchen together,” Chang said.

See more food creations from Chang and Sam below and check out their Facebook, YouTube and Instagram for more dishes.

SHOPPING NEWS UPDATE:

A Volcano Almost Appeared On The ‘Lost’ Island To Explain Its Powers

Way back in 2010, the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 on “Lost” were finally enveloped in a wave of bright light, marking the end of the series after a fiery battle between good and evil. (And many viewers were left feeling deeply confused.)

As it turns out, that finale was supposed to look a lot different. As “Lost” insiders told Entertainment Weekly, there was supposed to be a volcano on the island, and it was supposed to erupt.

While observant viewers would have remembered the volcano from a flashback to the DHARMA Initiative days, it could’ve had a much more vital role in the show. Series co-creator Damon Lindelof explained how the volcano was meant to “visualize and dramatize the idea that the island itself is all that separates the world from hellfire and damnation.” It also birthed the smoke monster, who, in human form, was known as The Man in Black (played in part by Terry O’Quinn).

Showrunner Carlton Cuse recounted how the “Lost” team was “always looking to cannibalize anything on Hawaii,” where they filmed the series. “We also thought of the island as a character on the show, so we were always looking for things that would give it more personality,” Cuse told EW.

In the end, the volcano was supposed to erupt as Jack (Matthew Fox) fought The Man in Black over the island’s fate. As Lindelof explained:

The volcano had been dormant for the duration of the series, but based on moving into this endgame, the island had become unstable and the volcano was going to erupt. We were going to have lots of seismic activity, and ultimately, there was going to be this big fight between the forces of good and the forces of evil, which ended up in the series manifesting as Jack and The Man in Black, in the midst of magma. Magma spewing everywhere!

Instead, the pair fought, alongside Kate (Evangeline Lilly), in a glowing cave ― a less expensive substitute for a magma-spewing volcano. Volcanoes, apparently, are quite expensive. And so Ol’ Smokey was born out of that same, budget-friendly cave of light, after his brother Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) tossed him in as revenge for killing their mother.

“ABC was like, ‘Guys, we love you, and we’re letting you end the show; we can’t let you bankrupt the network in the process,’” Lindelof said.

In the end, viewers were left with only a slightly less clear picture of how the island works, as the finale left plenty of other unanswered questions.

Madonna’s Waited Almost 30 Years To Drag Pepsi. This Is Her Moment.

Let’s say it all together now: P-E-T-T-Y.

Since everyone else has been dragging Pepsi and Kendall Jenner on social media for the company’s cringeworthy ad, the queen bee Madonna decided to weigh in on the controversy with some choice shade and a bit of a history lesson.

First, let’s start off with the shade, because this is Madonna, after all, and no one can do it like she can. Shortly after Pepsi decided to pull the ad and apologize to Jenner (instead of everyone who was offended), the pop star made her allegiance with soda’s rival brand, Coca-Cola, crystal clear.

On Wednesday, Madonna shared a throwback photo of herself at the 1999 Grammy Awards carrying a Coke, captioning the shot with a single gold medal emoji. She even zoomed in on the can in another photo to drive her point home.

A post shared by Madonna (@madonna) on

Considering the severe lack of judgement that led to the creation of Jenner’s TV spot, it’s hard to believe that this wasn’t Pepsi’s first rodeo with an ad gone wrong. No, like most things in this industry, Madonna did it first.

Once upon a time, the singer scored a $ 5 million endorsement deal with Pepsi at the peak of her career in January 1989 and appeared in her own ad for the soft drink.

The two-minute commercial featuring her hit “Like A Prayer” was pulled months later amid controversy surrounding the song’s music video, which received widespread criticism from Catholic groups. The video featured plenty of religious imagery like burning crosses, stigmata and the singer getting down with a black saint.

Even the Vatican got involved, reportedly describing the video as blasphemy and calling for a boycott of Pepsi, prompting the company to scrap the ad and terminate Madonna’s contract. However, she did get to keep the $ 5 million.

That’s why Madonna drew comparisons between Pepsi’s handling of her own ad and Jenner’s on Wednesday in the aftermath of the the brand’s most recent debacle.

“When you wake up and realize that Shit just really doesn’t make sense!” she captioned a clip from the commercial. “Side Note: My Pepsi commercial was pulled 30 years ago because I was kissing a black saint,” adding the hashtags #chosen and #ironic.

Remember, everyone: Karma’s a bitch, just like Madonna.

Gwyneth Paltrow on Working Out Almost Every Day: ‘I Definitely Don’t Always Feel Like Doing It!’

Gwyneth Paltrow has credited her near-daily workouts for looking young and feeling strong, but admits she’s not always in the mood to hit the gym.

“I like feeling good, and I know I feel my best when I exercise. But it depends on the day — I definitely don’t always feel like doing it,” the actress and lifestyle guru, 44, tells Women’s Health in the April issue. “I’ve made it a habit, just like brushing your teeth. That’s how you have to look at it.”

Paltrow swears by the Tracy Anderson Method for keeping in shape.

“I’ve been a Tracy Anderson fanatic for over a decade, I’m an investor in her company, so yeah, I go every morning,” she says. “I drop the kids at school, work out, go to work.”

RELATED VIDEO: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Favorite Things

In addition to a disciplined workout regiment, Paltrow sticks to a pretty clean diet to stay feeling her best. However, she lets herself indulge when she wants to.

“I have a pretty healthy diet, so when I’m eating processed foods and not watching my alcohol intake, I feel it. But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun — pleasure!” she says. “You’re going to have a baguette-and-cheese-and-red-wine frenzy sometimes, but you want it to be a choice you’re awake to: ‘I know this might not make me feel great, but today I’m choosing it anyway.’ ”

Paltrow also spoke to the magazine about how she deals with being judged.

“When someone doesn’t like something you do, or doesn’t share your interest in something, that doesn’t have anything to do with you,” she says. “One of the best things someone ever said to me was that the only time criticism hurts is if you have a judgment about yourself about that very thing.”

Julie Andrews Almost Died Filming The ‘Mary Poppins’ Umbrella Scene

Julie Andrews appeared on “The Late Show” Friday night, where she told Stephen Colbert about what it was like to actually film that memorable umbrella scene from the 1964 movie, “Mary Poppins.”

Andrews explained that to pull off that flying sequence, she actually performed the stunt herself while wearing a painful harness. But the supposedly load-bearing wires she was attached to high above the stage didn’t end up working as planned.

“There was a very dangerous day right at the end of filming when I was in this excruciatingly painful harness,” Andrews told Colbert, as she pointed upward. “And I was hanging around up there for the longest time with the umbrella.”

After floating in the sky for quite some time, Andrews sensed the wires giving out on her.

“I thought I felt the wire leave [and] drop about six inches … I was nervous,” Andrews recalled. “So, I called down and I said, ‘Excuse me, when you do let me down, could you let me down really gently, because I felt myself slip and I just don’t feel too safe up here.’”

The crew called back that they would be sure to bring her down very softly.

That’s not what ended up happening.

I plummeted to the stage
Julie Andrews

“I plummeted to the stage,” Andrews said. “And there was an awful silence for a minute and I did let fly with a few Anglo-Saxon four letter words, I have to admit.” The actress smiled at this polished admittance of crassness, much to the delight of the studio audience.

Although Poppins takes flight a few times in the movie, you can likely see the scene Andrews is referring to in her first introduction to the children. Typically when Poppins is flying, the character is completely still (due to rudimentary special effects), but Andrews’ body is moving around while flying with the umbrella near the end of this clip:

Conleth Hill Almost Played A Different Role On ‘Game Of Thrones’

With 30 years in the business, Conleth Hill’s career, well, “Varys,” but how much it changes may be surprising.

The actor told The Huffington Post that with the exception of “Game of Thrones,” he generally doesn’t play the same character multiple times. He switches things up. In fact, Hill said that the only similarity between the mysterious eunuch he plays on the HBO show and the troubled author he portrays in his new thriller, “A Patch of Fog,” is that, you know, he’s both of them. In addition to those roles, Hill is currently in rehearsals for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” in the West End.

Like on “Game of Thrones,” Varys is just a busy guy.

Hill’s character on the HBO show has been known as the Master of Whisperers, so while chatting with the actor about his new projects, we asked about some real-life whispers, too. It may surprise some that Hill confirmed he already made a bid to sit on the Iron Throne as another character.

One time, I saw you dispelled that you were once a married fisherman before becoming an actor.

They took it from the Wikipedia entry, which I didn’t do. I don’t really go, apart from reading The Huffington Post, near the internet, but someone had filled in my Wikipedia with lots of mysterious details, which I have to say I found amusing.

There are other rumors, too.

Don’t believe anything you read.

One says you almost didn’t play your character, Sandy Duffy, in “A Patch of Fog.”

Thankfully, fortuitously, the guy who was gonna play him dropped out. I think before principal photography started, so I didn’t have much time to prepare, but I’m dealing with a great script, and everything I needed was on there.

Another rumor says you originally tried out for Robert Baratheon on “Game of Thrones.”

It is true, to be honest, but I have to say that I came out of the meeting, which went all right, and looked who was in after me, saw who it was, and went, “Well, he’d be all right for it,” and he was, and he got it. You know, that’s showbiz.

(Robert Baratheon was portrayed on “Game of Thrones” by actor Mark Addy.)

So then you had to read for Varys, too?

I read for it, parts of the dungeon scene with Ned and the chest scene where he explains how he was made from sort of a slave to the security of Westeros, and I think once I had already accepted the part, they said, “How do you feel about shaving your head?”

How is it finally getting to keep your hair in “A Patch of Fog”?

It’s seasonal. I cut it out and then it grows back. A bit colder this year because it’s a little bit later, filming well into the winter, but it’s just what I looked like before.

At the heart of your movie is this obsessed fan interacting with his idol, and there are some awkward selfies. What’s been the weirdest fan experience you’ve had so far?

I’ve been very lucky. Most “Game of Thrones” fans are well-mannered and courteous. I have no trouble taking photos with people if they want it. I think the weirdest one was someone came running toward me with their hand in my crotch area, saying, “I wanted to see if something’s really there.”

What? Really? That’s pretty crazy.

They didn’t make contact, so it was OK. Yeah, like I’d be that method.

“A Patch of Fog” is on VOD and iTunes Jan. 24.

This Is Us Is (Almost) Back! Get Your First Look at Winter Return After That HUGE Cliffhanger

This Is Us ended its midseason finale on a major cliffhanger, and though the suspense is still hanging in the air, PEOPLE has an exclusive First Look at the key art for the show’s first episode back in January.

The image is a cozy tapestry showcasing emotional moments between the beloved Pearson family, led by mom Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and dad Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), as well as the actors playing their children, both grown and as youngsters.

Most tellingly for the biggest question, though, is who’s not in the collage: Chris Sullivan‘s Toby. It’s still uncertain whether the lovable goof, who’d been romancing Chrissy Metz‘s Kate throughout the fall breakout’s first 10 episodes, will survive the shocking heart attack that ended the Dec. 6 episode. As registered #TeamToby members, it’s not a promising sign ….

So while we’re glad to see the Pearsons and their loved ones in action, the question still lingers: What about Toby?

Guess we’ll just have to wait to find out when This Is Us returns Jan. 10 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Eli Roth On Being ‘Almost Killed’ By Fire While Filming ‘Inglourious Basterds’

Quentin Tarantino films have a distinctive style, most recognizably characterized by a crazy amount blood and guts. In one of the more memorable scenes from his 2009 revenge-on-the-Nazis movie “Inglourious Basterds,” Sgt. Donny Donowitz, aka “The Bear Jew,” literally shoots Hitler’s face off in a burning French cinema. The sequence is unforgettable, but it almost came at the cost of several lives, according to Eli Roth, the actor who played Donowitz.

When Roth dropped by HuffPost Live to discuss his Shark Week talk show “Shark After Dark,” host Josh Zepps asked about the scene and the danger it created for the cast and crew.

“Yeah, we were almost killed doing that sequence,” Roth replied casually.

With the set being built on a “fire-stage,” the fires in the scene were supposed to be controlled. But when the scene was actually filmed, with all the final set pieces like flags and seats actually in the room, the fires grew much bigger and hotter than expected.

“[The flames] were spreading so exponentially,” Roth remembered. “They said if we were in there another 15 seconds, the stage we were on would have collapsed and we all would have been killed.”

Roth and the crew luckily got out right before the situation could have taken a turn for the worst, but clearly no one is safe in Tarantino’s world.

Watch Roth discuss this near-disaster in the video above, and click here for his full HuffPost Live conversation.

Almost Going to Jail Taught Me How to Give!

I have learned about giving through the experience of receiving. There have been a lot of people in my life that gave to me, when they didn’t have to, when there wasn’t anything in it for them.

I haven’t always known how to give in my life, I spent a lot of it, not knowing how to give love, not knowing how to give my gifts and talents not knowing I had anything to give.
I learned slowly from a few very special people in my life how to give.

My teachers come to mind. I’ve never really had a relationship with my father, he’s always seemed like a ghost, somewhere out there, but just out of my reach.

I think subconsciously I created a lot of my teachers to be men, strong healthy role models of the healthy masculine to heal the old father wound. They were all available, attentive and loving.

I needed that. It has been very healing for me.

I ran away from home as a really young teenager and moved to Hawaii. I never knew there were people out there that wanted to help me just because, just to help, when I ran away that wasn’t my experience. Everyone wanted something.

Before I found my calling God sent me an angel named Sean, I was struggling and had gotten into some trouble with the law, and I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen. Out of desperation, fear and intense emotional pain I started going anywhere spiritual!

I met Sean in a spiritual community, he took me under his wing.

Every time I went to court it was so demeaning and scary, everyone treated me like I was already guilty, but not Sean, he was an amazing loving teacher. He taught me how to sit with people, how to love them and be there for them when things got hard.

I remember telling him, I’m so scared, I don’t know if I’m going to jail! I have no idea what I could do to help another person right now!

He would say “Yeah just come with me, we’re all going to go sit and be with some people who are suffering, just talk from your heart and give them what you can in the way of love.”

I thought what’s wrong with him! Doesn’t he see I’m messed up! Doesn’t he see I’m the one that needs help!?

But I just kept showing up whenever there was an opportunity to talk with someone struggling with cancer, or a teenage girl who had been molested. I just showed up and tried to help.
It changed everything, I just couldn’t wait until Sean and our little team of helpers went out to be with another hurting soul. I suddenly felt I wasn’t an awful person, I wasn’t so lost.
It gave me a reason to live again.

When I first met Sean I was so worried about the case that I spent hours of many days crying on my bathroom floor, then Sean would call and say “Hey what are you doing, wanna sit with some hurting folks?”

I mean, I thought it couldn’t be any worse than sitting on my bathroom floor crying. That gift he gave me of being able to give love to another soul was like medicine for my spirit.

I began to feel like, Hey Ama, you might be able to really help people! And you Really love it!!!”
I started thinking less and less about my situation and more and more about the next time I could get back out there with Sean and the team!

A seed was planted in my soul.

I learned from Sean that no matter how much you are hurting inside, how dark things get, you can still give, that in fact that IS the medicine that will give you the will to live again! To bring meaning back into your life! That’s what happened to me.

I found that in life you can make mistakes and lose everything and in losing can be great winning.

I ended up taking a plea that the DA offered in my case, I was just too terrified to go to trial and gamble and maybe win but maybe lose.

I was on probation for awhile, lost all my money spending thousands of dollars defending myself and in fees.

I lost a lot of friends that couldn’t handle the intensity of my situation. But I wasn’t as focused on me and my situation anymore, I had found this new world of giving and being of service, and I couldn’t get enough!!!

I remember going to endless court hearings thinking, I can’t wait to get out of here and go sit with someone that’s hurting! It’s the only thing that saved me and kept me from the deepest despair and from giving up.

I kept going out with Sean and the team. I started to realize when I was sitting with hurting ones, I would get information about them, I had a gift, I could tell what was going to happen or what had happened to them before.

I would touch them on the hand or their head and they would start to feel better. I found that I knew how to talk with them and somehow they would be feeling better and filled with hope after we talked.

I began to find my calling as a healer.

The worst thing that I thought had ever happened to me, turned out to lead me to the best thing that ever happened… finding my gifts and my calling…. and the joy of being of service and giving!

That experience of receiving unconditional love from Sean taught me not to judge people too harshly, as you never know their story and how they got to be where they’re at.
Sean knew my situation but he chose to see something good in me, he chose to see that I had something to offer and I started to believe him!

He didn’t talk to me about giving, he made me go out and do it!

It was extraordinary! Sean taught me that the way to heal is to GIVE!

It was the most amazing thing, at my lowest point, I was asked to serve another human being and it healed MY hurting soul!

Yeah, I’ve learned a lot from my teachers. I’ve learned how to give, really give and the absolute joy that comes from giving is addictive!

Once you reach out to help another person, no matter what is going on for you in your life, you’ll never stop, and you’ll always know how to find your way back to yourself by reaching out and finding someone that needs your help. You’ll find that you’ll get hooked on that feeling of love and giving and you’ll never turn back!! I didn’t!

11 Party Mistakes That Almost Every Host Makes

Maybe it’s your birthday. Maybe your godson is graduating from college. Maybe it’s a Saturday night and your name is Emily Gilmore. Maybe it’s a Thursday night and you’re the Entertainment Chair of your fraternity. But for whatever reason, you’re throwing a party. The invitations have gone out, and you’ve figured out the lighting, decor and music.

But you also need to figure out the food and beverage situation. You’re entering perilous waters, full of rocky shoals and hungry sea monsters. But don’t worry: HuffPost is here. We’ve identified 11 common food-and-drink mistakes that party hosts make all the time. As long as you avoid these snafus, you’ll be just fine. You’ll throw a great party, and all your friends will love you forever, and all your enemies will rue the day they crossed you.

Mistake #1: Not Having Enough Ice

This is the most common mistake party hosts make, which is frustrating because it’s really cheap and easy to rectify and ice is SUPER IMPORTANT. If you have ice, you can make pretty much any simple mixed drink taste good: cold and dilution can make even straight whiskey or tequila palatable. But without ice, you can’t really make any mixed drink taste good. (Except, I suppose, a hot toddy?) The dozen ice cubes that have been collecting dust in your ice trays for a week won’t cut it. When you throw a party, buy some bags of ice. More than you think you’ll need. It’s better to have leftovers — which keep pretty much forever — than to run out halfway through the night.

Mistake #2: Not Having Enough Cups

This is almost as bad as, and even easier to fix than, not having enough ice. But I also understand it: You might think you should buy as many cups as there will be guests, plus maybe 20 percent for people who lose theirs. But the truth is that a good party will be so chaotic that many guests are likely to go through not one or two, but easily three or four cups. So buy a ton! Just be sure to recycle them the next day, or, better yet, wash and reuse them.

Mistake #3: Having Too Low A Ratio Of Mixers-To-Liquor

Here’s a common sight: You walk into a party, you go to the makeshift bar the host has set up on some credenza in their living room, and you see exactly as many bottles of juice or soda as there are bottles of liquor. This is wrong. Those mixers will run out. You should always provide at least three times as much mixer as liquor. Especially because there are bound to be some people who won’t want to drink alcohol, or much alcohol, and will want cups of plain Diet Coke or cranberry juice.

Mistake #4: Serving Drinks That Are Too Fussy

mixologist

This is, in some sense, the inverse of the first three mistakes. It comes from a noble place in the heart of a party host — the desire to serve delicious beverages. But it, too, is a mistake. Fussy drinks take a long time to make, which can create bottlenecks of sobriety at the party, especially if a bunch of guests arrive at the same time. And it forces the host to focus on mixology rather than talking to their guests and having fun. If you’re insistent on serving a fantastic, elaborate drink, make it a punch that you can mix one huge batch of in advance: My favorite is the Original Chatham Artillery Punch. It’s never been anything less than a smash hit when I’ve made it for a group.

Mistake #5: Not Serving Food

You don’t have to feed everyone at your party a full dinner. Certainly not. You don’t have to serve delicious food. (Though it helps.) But if you are serving alcohol, you must provide something to eat. Chips and salsa, olives or a bowl of nuts, at least. Otherwise, people will get wasted far more quickly than you want them to — or, just as bad, they’ll leave when they get peckish.

Mistake #6: Serving Messy Food
messy food

On balance, serving messy food may actually be worse than serving no food. Nothing ruins a party like getting sloppy joe meat all over your nice shirt.

Mistake #7: Serving Clichéd Party Food

You wanna see someone’s eyes roll back all the way into their head? Invite me to a party and serve one of two kinds of food: a grape-and-cheese plate or a crudité platter, the pre-fab kind that comes from Costco. It’s lazy, boring and totally basic. I’d prefer a bowl of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. This is, I admit, better than no food at all — but only by a hair.

Mistake #8: Putting All The Food And Drink In One Place

A subtle mistake that has consigned countless parties to failure. Here’s why: If you put the beer, the liquor, the Cheetos and the cake all on one table, or, God forbid, in your narrow kitchen, all your guests are going to congregate there. That’s a recipe for heat, discomfort, accidental pushing and early departures. Instead, if you have any space at all, spread the different types of comestibles throughout your home. That way, your guests will be forced to move around the party all night, and thereby be thrust into all sorts of the random encounters that are the lifeblood of a proper party.

Mistake #9: Not Accounting For Dietary Restrictions

gwyneth paltrow

If you have no dietary restrictions whatsoever, it’s easy to be annoyed by them, or even to forget that they exist. But when you’re throwing a party, you have to think about them. Because if you don’t, you run the risk of having multiple people feel uncomfortable, hungry and sad at your party. You should be safe as long as you have options for people who are vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free. That’s not particularly difficult: get some wine for the gluten-free people to drink instead of beer, and serve some pita and hummus, or other meatless snack, alongside your platter of prosciutto and foie gras terrine. Easy peasy.

Mistake #10: Not Making The Menu Personal

This one’s a little nebulous, and related to the injunction against clichéd party foods. But the idea is that if you’re throwing a party, it should feel like your party. Not your mom’s party or your friend’s party or a party you saw on Pinterest. Some of this work can and should be done through decor, but food and drink with personal significance can be great too. So if you just moved back to Chicago after spending four years in San Diego, get some craft beer from that great San Diego brewery you toured! Or if you’re known as an obsessive “Breaking Bad” fan, serve some meth-inspired blue drinks! Bake some of your trademark blondies!

Mistake #11: Not Serving Jell-O Shots

jello shots

I’ve saved the most important rule of party-throwing for last: Always serve Jell-O Shots. Preferably in a piñata .

My Business Almost Cost Me My Marriage

One Saturday afternoon while driving to the mall, I expressed concern to my husband over our relationship. Nothing was really wrong, we weren’t arguing or fighting. In fact, we weren’t really talking much at all — that was the problem. More and more, I felt as though I were living with a roommate, not a lover.

We’d sit side-by-side on our recliners each night, but never said more than five or six words to one another. There was no connection.

On this drive I looked over and said, “Babe, I’m worried that if we don’t get on the same page

“I’ve thought the same thing,” he replied.

I was stunned. I felt like someone had sucker-punched me in the stomach. He’d thought the same thing? He’d considered divorce? What? When? Why hadn’t he said anything? If I hadn’t said anything, would he have?

I swallowed hard and said, “You have? OK, then it’s a good thing we’re talking now. What are you feeling?”

My husband isn’t one to share his feelings or emotions, so I knew that I was making a tall request. And in a split-second, it was as if a dam had burst. He began telling me, firmly and deliberately, his perspective on our marriage.

Many of his concerns were valid. I’m not the best housewife. I’ve never enjoyed cleaning, which is why we have a housekeeper come twice a month. I do let my daughters dress themselves, which means that at times they walk out of the house looking a little crazy. I let dishes sit overnight and I’m ok with a pile of books and papers stacked at the bottom of the staircase.

And then he hit me with, “I resent your business.”

“I know this could blow up for you, I can see that. But I don’t see what your business is doing for our family,” he continued on. As he spoke, I heard his words in slow motion.

How could he be saying this to me? I thought we were making progress? Just this past year we had been accepted into a couple’s mastermind program and I thought he was finally starting to climb on board with the business — our – business.

But I said nothing. I listened. I validated. And then I shared my own concerns about our marriage.

I felt lonely. I felt like I was a single mom who happened to live with the father of her children. I wanted a partnership. I wanted to know that we were equally sharing the load of maintaining a household and raising our children.

He wanted us to establish roles. I wanted him to be more present. He wanted to see the financial impact of my business. I wanted to talk to him about the numbers. He wanted to see the numbers, but wanted nothing to do with business talk.

In talking for nearly two hours, we realized we both wanted the same things, we just wanted them in different ways.

My story isn’t unique. In fact, in speaking with many of my entrepreneurial colleagues, this story is the norm and the exceptions are those rare, unicorn-like partners who are completely supportive, 100% on board and who are interested in helping the business in any possible way.

The rest of us have to battle with a variety of scenarios ranging from not-at-all supportive to kind-of-supportive when it’s convenient and everything in between.

So how do we divorce-proof our marriages while also following our passion and confidently building the business of our dreams?

The truth is, you really can’t “divorce-proof” a marriage. There’s no set it and forget it system. It takes intentional action every single day.

Notice I used the word action and not work. Too many people say marriage is work. And that’s part of the problem. We’re treating our relationships like business transactions — scheduling, planning, creating to-do lists — rather than treating them as opportunities for loving acts of kindness.

Here are three steps you can take to ‘divorce-proof’ your marriage and keep your business:

1. Establish Roles

When my husband looked at me and said, “There are certain roles men and women have,” I literally rolled my eyes and considered slapping him in the face. What, are we back in the 1950’s? I immediately made assumptions about what “roles” he believed I should fill.

But as we began talking, I realized he didn’t necessarily mean that my role had to be the “traditional stay-at-home mom.” More so, he meant that we each needed to identify what position we were playing on our marital team.

Who was the dishwasher? Who was the checkbook balancer? Who cooked and on what days? Who made the bed? Who made the coffee? Who took the kids to school and who picked them up? Who gave them baths and who read the bedtime stories?

Once we sat down and went through our list of responsibilities and divided up the workload there was an immediate shift in our energy. We both breathed a sigh of relief.

As you consider your own relationship, ask yourself, “Do we have our roles and responsibilities defined or are we just leaving it up to chance, assuming one of us will get it done?”

If you’re each thinking the other should do it, but it’s never been clearly defined, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment and resentment. Make the change right now.

2. Have a Monthly Money Date

As an entrepreneur, you should already be having a monthly money date with yourself to make sure you know exactly how much you’re bringing in and where it’s all going. But if you’re married, then you should definitely consider sequestering your love for a desert night out with your financial statement and look over the numbers together.

Not only does this keep you accountable as the CEO of your business, but it also helps your partner see how your business is (or can) impact your financial future.

A quick note: If you’re not making money in your business yet, that’s okay. Have your money date anyway and let your spouse know your projections for the following month or explain why you invested where you did and the return you expect to get. Transparency is key.

3. Make an Excuse

The most important of all, make an excuse to spend time with your spouse and to meet their needs! The chief complaint most partners make of their entrepreneurial mates is, “She’s always on the phone or computer working.”

Your partner only feels this way because his or her needs are not being met. If your spouse has ever said to you, “You work too much,” it’s their way of saying, “You’re not giving me what I need.”

Make an excuse every single day to do something for your partner. Shutting down your laptop an hour earlier, preparing a favorite meal or just sitting next to each other, holding hands while watching some mindless show. Think of your partner and do something that would make them feel thought of, loved and more important than your business.

Take action right now: Grab a sheet of paper and make a list of 30 simple things you could do for your partner. That’s your action plan for this month! Remember, your time and attention are the most valuable gifts you can give the person you love. Be sure and add that in a few extra times.

I almost lost my marriage because I wasn’t doing these 3 simple things. Ever since we’ve made these steps common practice in Casa de Luna, it’s as though a new relationship has sprung. My husband and I are working together as a team, he’s amazing with the kids – especially the few evenings each month when I have coaching calls – and overall, our house feels like a loving, supportive, encouraging home.

The key is infusing LOVE into each step. Because after all, isn’t that what we all want most – to love and be loved?

Now over to you. Which of these steps will you implement first? Do you have your own story of how your business has threatened your relationship? Let’s chat in the comments.

12 Couples That Almost But Never Were Actually Couples

Remember the time that C.J. and Toby finally realized they were madly in love and began a romantic relationship that went down in favorite-TV-couples history? No? That’s because it never happened. It should have, but alas, “West Wing” mastermind Aaron Sorkin doesn’t really care what you want. Sorkin isn’t the only writer/producer/creator who kept some of our favorite almost couples from having beautiful and meaningful relationships. Occasionally, audiences were treated to, say, an awkward kiss never to be repeated, an “I love you” that was quickly taken back or — at most — one night of romance.

In a match-making collaboration with Juicy Fruit, we’re recapping some of our favorite never-were couples from film, television and literature — the ones that left us wishing the love birds would all realize their true feelings, leading to an ending filled with both figurative and literal fireworks. Warning: this list contains spoilers.

Will Truman and Jack McFarland (“Will & Grace”)

Jack was there for Will when he came out of the closet. There was also that almost romantic night they didn’t actually spend together on Karen’s boat. Will supported Jack financially and Jack reminded Will when he needed to hit the gym. Isn’t that the very definition of a couple? Despite the zings about Will’s weight and hairline, and Jack’s spazztic personality and frequent unemployment, these two really cared for each other and found ways to show it, including that one time Jack told Patti LuPone to shut her “beautiful brassy trap.”

Hermione Granger and Harry Potter (Harry Potter books)

Plenty of readers thought that something more should have blossomed between Potter fans’ favorite witch and wizard. Ron always seemed a bit too dim for Hermione. But her relationship with Harry displayed respect, kindness, love and a deeper understanding of one another. Ron and Hermione constantly bickered. Plus, Ron was incredibly awkward and had zero game. But there was a comforting shoulder to cry on and blue eyes for days with the ever-sensitive Harry.

Peggy Olson and Don Draper (“Mad Men”)

Peggy Olson: a great example of a strong woman who wouldn’t be afraid to tell a man what’s up and to get his act together. The recent downward spiral Don experienced would never have happened had he been involved with Peggy Olson. She would not have put up with that crazy business. And when it comes to their work, they make each other better. We’d also love to see Peggy with someone who won’t cut his nipple off and give it to her in a box.

Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy (“30 Rock”)

They decided in Florida that their untraditional friendship was too interesting to become romantic and ruin everything. But that didn’t stop many fans from wishing sparks had flown between “sister-ployee” and “work oracle.” Jack suffered from major mommy issues and Liz, a serious cheese problem. Despite their flaws and differences (and there were many), the two looked out for each other. Remember in season three when Liz flashed an entire room at a business retreat to pull the attention off of Jack when he forgot to remove his mic? While they were certainly not the best people in the world, Jack and Liz weren’t the worst, either. “Graduate students are the worst.”

Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”)

Everyone loves to watch lifelong best friends fall in love. The only hitch for Willow and Xander was, the sparks started while they were in love with other people. They kissed in episodes throughout season three (including one where Cordelia nearly died trying to rescue them while they were getting cozy). Guilt-ridden by their betrayal and the hurt they caused, the two never developed a long-term romantic relationship. Eventually Willow fell in love with another witch and Xander fell in love with an ex-demon and almost everyone died.

Frasier Crane and Roz Doyle (“Frasier”)

Work relationships in TV shows are a breeding ground for sexual tension. Straight-shooter Roz was never afraid to get into a verbal battle of wits with Frasier. As his producer for his radio show she freely mixed her own two cents in to his advice for callers. The zings about her healthy sexual appetite and his pretentious yet childish demeanor flew back and forth throughout the series. Still, there were plenty of warm moments between the two of them. They slept together once, and it made things super weird, but in the end they smoothed it all over and restored a solid friendship. They were both complete messes (he had a crazy ex-wife and her baby-daddy was a college undergrad) but they created a perfect balance at the same time.

Leslie Knope and Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (“Parks and Recreation”)

Strictly speaking pre-Ben, here. Despite the soft spot we all have for Jean-Ralphio’s shenanigans and the way he sings the end of every other sentence like he’s Mary J. Blige laying down a track at Columbia, Ben Wyatt trumps Jean-Ralphio any day. That being said, we think Leslie and J-R could have had an interesting connection, not too dissimilar from the time that Ann and Tom dated. Leslie would have been an organizing influence on him — and his fake death in the series finale would have gone a lot smoother because of it.

Dottie Hinson and Jimmy Dugan (“A League of Their Own”)

There may not be crying in baseball, but we’re crying over the fact that she didn’t stay in Rockford. Imagine the career the Peaches’ starting catcher would have had if she’d left her dairy farm and her World War II-wounded veteran husband for her coach. Like any queen of diamonds, Dottie knew how to put a washed-up, occasional misogynist like Jimmy in his place. Not to mention, her command of the field earned his respect. It’s hard to say how a romance would have changed things, but there definitely would have been a new generation of insanely talented ball players who could catch foul balls in mid-splits and bat over .500.

Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister (“Game of Thrones”)

He saved her life at the cost of his own hand, and she managed to reunite him with his indifferent family. Arguably, Brienne is the only person with whom Jamie has been truly open, which shows his trust and respect for her. Likewise, she has shown the same for him. He’s beautiful and rich, and she, well, isn’t … but it could work. Mr. Martin, if you’re reading this, incest is so two season ago. Bring on the Tarth.

Edith and just about ANYONE (“Downton Abbey”)

Aside from the dead ones, Edith is probably the unluckiest character in Downton. Her demeanor and untraditional look regrettably marks her as the “other” daughter when introduced at dinner parties. First, we saw her jilted at the altar by an old dude with whom no one was really hoping she’d ride off into the sunset. And just when we think she’s found true love with married man Michael Gregson — so many things wrong with that scenario to start — he goes off to Germany, gets murdered and leaves her pregnant with his child out of wedlock. At this point, we’d settle for any well-meaning, age appropriate suitor for Edith. Not an easy task when it literally feels like the eligible bachelors on this show keep dying off or heading across the pond to America (in which case, they may as well be dead).

Dr. Ian Malcolm and Dr. Ellie Sattler (“Jurassic Park”)

If it weren’t for that pretentious, awkward-around-children Dr. Grant, perhaps Ellie would have taken Ian’s flirting more seriously. Who can resist a chaos theorist who knows how to rock a black leather blazer to a field expedition? She definitely wouldn’t have lured him back to another dino-filled island in the second movie. If only love — like life — found a way.

Mindy Lahiri and Peter Prentice (“The Mindy Project”)

As Peter left for Texas to follow love, he told Mindy she is his best friend. And when he came back just before his wedding, he asked her to be his best man (cue the sappy noises from the audience). They share a lot more in common than she and Danny, and how adorable were they as a fake couple at Mindy’s ex’s wedding? If they ever got together, we bet they’d spend weekends picking out cute outfits for Nicole the dog, reading gossip magazines and crashing weddings of professional athletes.

Dad Captures Beautiful Photos Of Son’s Childhood After Almost Losing Him

One morning in 2013, dad Adrian Murray and his wife Michelle experienced every parent’s nightmare. They woke up to find their 10-month-old son Emerson unresponsive in his crib.

The parents rushed their baby to the hospital, where he remained for three days. After severals rounds of tests, doctors still could not provide an answer as to what exactly was wrong with Emerson. A few days later, the Murrays brought their son back to the hospital after they found him unresponsive again. The baby was put on anti-seizure medication.

Emerson’s ordeal was an eye-opening experience for his father Adrian, who was inspired to take photographs of his son’s childhood. “I felt like life goes by in an instant and that I needed to try and capture those moments of wonder,” he told The Huffington Post in an email.

Murray’s photos of Emerson depict the little boy in moments of pure innocence and joy. Drawing inspiration from some of his own favorite childhood stories like Winnie the Pooh, Murray’s photos “revolve around the idea of adventure and discovery,” he explained.

“Our kids are bombarded by digital media, lights, and plastic. I wanted something closer to what child is all about, wonder and discovery,” Murray added. “That’s why we try to go to a park, or explore nature as often as we can.”

Today, 2-year-old Emerson is in good health and no longer needs to take anti-seizure meds. This past February, the toddler became a big brother to “his partner in crime” Greyson.

The below images are just a sample of Adrian Murray’s beautiful photos of his happy little boys on adventures. You can view more on his photography site, Facebook page, and 500px profile.

First Nighter: A. R. Gurney’s “Love Letters,” Walter Anderson’s “Almost Home”

Is Love Letters A. R Gurney’s most lucrative play? No one seems to be quite sure, but it has to be up there among the prolific playwright’s biggest money earners. Look, it has a built-in gimmick that encourages actors to want to participate. Since it bowed in 1989, many have.

After all, they don’t need to memorize a thing. For the two-hander, they merely come out on stage, sit down on two chairs at a shared table and begin reading from binders in front of them. They handily flip pages as they go about chronicling the barely requited epistolary romance between Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner.

So here Love Letters comes again, at the Brooks Atkinson, with a new (or slightly rearranged) cast more or less appearing every month for as long as business thrives–the first duo being Brian Dennehy and Mia Farrow.

As we know, epistolary novels were a big thing in the 18th century, but epistolary plays not so much then or now. (Some 50 years ago, Brian Aherne and Katharine Cornell toured in Dear Liar, reading letters exchanged between George Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell.) So expectations for Gurney’s Love Letters–other than as a showcase for marquee-name thespians wanting a relatively easy theater credit–wouldn’t have initially seemed to run high.

Yet, viewed from this later date in Gurney’s career, it looks as if Love Letters–if not definitely his biggest revenue turner–is decidedly one of his best works. Whereas in too many of his clever, slickly written pieces about WASP culture, he often retreats from digging deeply into his character’s emotions (cf. his Wayside Motor Inn, currently revived at the Signature Theatre), he goes way beneath the surface where Andy and Melissa are concerned.

Well-off Northeastern children at the start–Melissa is proud to say she’s richer than he–who meet in second grade and take instantly to each other, they correspond for the next 40 years. Though, it’s clear their families would like a formal union (and the audience starts off longing for it, too), they never tie the knot with each other.

Instead, they marry others, while Yale-Harvard law school graduate Andrew rises to the United States Senate and Melissa, who becomes an artist of intermediate accomplishments, becomes an alcoholic like her mother and increasingly loses her bearings. With the years and the letters and wives and husbands and children accumulating and Andy and Melissa falling in and out of contact with each other and continually misinterpreting each other’s written signals, Gurney shapes a heart-breaking and utterly credible history for them.

As the first players, Dennehy and Farrow–wearing what look like their own street clothes, though Jane Greenwood is the credited costumer–are highly effective, if in different ways. (Carol Burnett follows joining Dennehy, then Alan Alda and Candace Bergen, Stacy Keach and Diana Rigg, Anjelica Huston and Martin Sheen through early 2015.)

Dennehy, who hardly looks up from his script, gives a straightforward account of straight arrow and Arrow Collar Andy. He reads the letters strictly as if Andy is writing them. Often given to bombastic interpretations, Dennehy avoids those entirely to become the elite, enlightened man only too late realizing his hewing to the proper path may have kept him from living out his true passions.

Farrow does look up from her script, and often. She reads the letter as if she’s feeling them. Sometimes stammering over words like “a-a-a-and” and “I-I-I,” which isn’t as they’d appear on the page, she emotes–and increasingly as Melissa’s psychological troubles mount. Her facial expressions alter constantly. Actually, Melissa is the more exacting role, and Farrow is so good in it, an observer wonders whether any of her successors will make as much of it.

Set from 1937-1977 or thereabouts and rich in details (who still uses the period phrase “hacking around”?), Love Letters operates under a somewhat ironic title. Yes, these are love letters but for a love affair that only occurs tangentially, a love affair that could never have truly worked out. Gurney’s presenting it as honestly as he does is a large plume in his writer’s cap.

When Johnny Barnett (Jonny Orsini) comes marching home in Walter Anderson’s effective Almost Home, at the Acorn, he gets the 1965 hurrahs from mom Grace (Karen Ziemba) and pop Harry (Joe Lisi), but they’re muted and don’t last long.

Almost before Grace has scrambled a few eggs for the marine, a wounded Vietnam veteran, to scarf up hungrily in no time flat, he’s caught in a tug-of-war between her wanting him to go to college, as he’s inclined to do, and Harry’s being convinced Johnny should take the drill instructor position for which he’s in line if he reenlists.

There’s a third party with plans for Johnny. Police captain Nick Pappas (James McCaffrey) of the 47th Precinct in the Bronx is set on the lad’s becoming a cop assigned to Internal Affairs Bureau duties. The catch is that Pappas is a corrupt officer, who’s already got Harry under his thumb (a brief opening scene set in 1958 shows how and why) and now expects to have Johnny informing him about internal affairs activities.

Anderson reveals the tense fight for Johnny’s future in an 80-minute kitchen-sink drama. (Yes, designer Harry Feiner includes a sink, along with fridge, table, chairs and a pint-sized Christmas tree, on a set that may have some observers recalling Jackie Gleason’s Honeymooners look.)

Also pulled into the hot discussion is Luisa Jones (Brenda Pressley), a schoolteacher neighbor who taught Johnny and agrees with Grace and him about the benefits of a college education.

As the four of them tussle over what Johnny will eventually do, the recent and more distant past comes to light. Minimizing his psychic wounds–Johnny was with childhood best friend at his death on the battlefield–the demobbed soldier only slowly comes to acknowledge his pain. Just as hesitantly, Harry agrees to unburden himself of the World War II memories he’s long refused to confide in his wife and son. Where he’ll stand in regards to Pappas’s manipulations is another element in Anderson’s gritty piece.

Perhaps the playwright–also a Vietnam vet and former Marine sergeant (Johnny wears sergeant’s stripes on his uniform as well as his ribbons for valor)–holds his work to 80 minutes because he realizes the Vietnam drama is familiar territory and, as a consequence, he needn’t linger over it.

Actually, the very compact presentation is one of its strengths. Anderson doesn’t prolong the father’s ands son’s revelations. In particular, he makes it movingly clear that their familial affection hasn’t become so irreversibly obscured that it’s unable to resurface.

(Show mavens keeping a tally on plays in which a son is placed uncomfortably between two parents who simultaneously love each other but argue continually may immediately be put in mind of Frank D. Gilroy’s The Subject Was Roses.)

With Michael Parva directing them along Anderson’s crisp and pungent lines, the actors maximize the play’s potential. Orsini, who was so endearing in The Nance, displays a different range of repressed emotions. Lisi and McCaffrey, although paced a trifle haltingly in a couple of precinct scenes, get their rough edges right. Pressley does teacher-dignity properly.

And a special word about Ziemba, who only weeks ago was tapping her heart out in Bullets Over Broadway. An award-winning song-and-dance performer for many years (the Tony for Contact), she’s been making a transition to straight plays.

Last year, she was a boisterous bar owner in a revival of Anita Loos’s 1946 Helen Hayes vehicle, Happy Birthday. Now she’s the Bronx-accented Grace and succeeding completely. She does sing a snatch of Paige Morton’s popular Chock Full O’ Nuts jingle, but she doesn’t follow it with a tap break.

More power to her and to Almost Home.

Mariska Hargitay’s Haircut Almost Got Her Fired From ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Mariska Hargitay has had many different haircuts over the years of “Law & Order: SVU,” but one in particular almost got her fired. The Emmy-winning star told WENN that Dick Wolf was not pleased with her accidental short crop.

The event happened during Season 3 of “Law & Order: SVU.” “You know that moment,” Hargitay said in September, according to MSN. “I look up and [my breath caught]. My hair was so cute and then all of a sudden, he did the one irrevocable cut. I went, ‘Oh! Oh!’ and he said, ‘What? Honey, you’re gorgeous.’ He kept going. He cuts it and then he leaves. I’m calling the producer at 10:30, [crying], ‘I just got a haircut. I don’t think it looks good!’ I went over to the producer’s house and he was like, ‘Yeah, that’s a problem.’ When they saw dailies [at work], they weren’t happy.”

Hargitay told WENN she was in the middle of shooting an episode when she requested the haircut for a photoshoot and the stylist cut the wrong piece.

“I give the guy a glass of wine, he’s trimming my hair, everything’s great … and then all of a sudden I turn my head and he cuts the wrong piece off and I was like, ‘No…!’ I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m in the middle of an episode,'” she recently told WENN. “I got in so much trouble.”

Hargitay said she called series creator Wolf he said, “‘I’ve fired people for less.'”

“I said, ‘You can’t be mad at me; I’m the one with the dramatic hairdo,'” she said.

Harigtay recently chopped off her locks as part of her character’s transformation following the brutal events of the Season 15 events. The actress’ hair has not only almost gotten her fired, but has also inspired blogs.

“Law & Order: SVU” airs Wednesdays, 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
