NCIS: Los Angeles’ Linda Hunt Recovering After ‘Minor Traffic Accident’

Linda Hunt is on the mend after a car crash on Monday left her hospitalized.

The 73-year-old Oscar winner and NCIS: Los Angeles star told CBS2 Los Angeles on Tuesday that she didn’t suffer any serious injuries in the wreck and was getting back on her feet.

“Yesterday I was involved in a minor traffic accident and taken to the hospital,” Hunt said in a statement to the outlet. “I’m pleased to report I’m recovering well and have no serious injuries. Thank you for all the well wishes! I’m looking forward to starting production on NCIS: Los Angeles later this summer.”

A rep for Hunt did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

TMZ was first to report Hunt’s crash. According to the outlet, she was making a left turn when the black BMW SUV she was driving collided with two cars.

“An eyewitness tells us Hunt struck a sedan and then collided with a Honda SUV,” TMZ reported. “Hunt was visibly shaken, and witnesses escorted her to a lawn chair on the sidewalk. We’re told paramedics evaluated Linda on the chair and then determined she needed to be taken to the hospital.”

Pictures from the scene captured paramedics speaking with Hunt before her hospital visit. The other drivers suffered minor injuries from the crash, TMZ reported.

Hunt won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 1983 for her performance in The Year of Living Dangerously. She made history as the first star to win an Oscar for playing a role of the opposite sex.

The New Jersey native has since gone on to appear in more than 200 NCIS: Los Angeles episodes, as well as tackle roles in The Practice, Carnivàle, and Disney’s Pocahontas (in which she voiced the character of Grandmother Willow).

Louis Vuitton Brings Time Capsule Exhibit to Los Angeles

As a coastal gateway to both East and West, Los Angeles often a brand’s first entry point in North America. To that end, Louis Vuitton is making L.A. the first U.S. stop for its traveling “Time Capsule” exhibit. The six-part mini-museum will debut with a private party on May 17 at Westfield Century City, where it will be open to the public from May 18 to June 10, with free daily admission Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday to Saturday until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“With the ‘Time Capsule’ exhibition, we wanted to tell our history in a different way. We all know the Louis Vuitton trunks, we know about the 19th century, we know about travel, but what we do not know is how modern Louis Vuitton is. If our house is today a leader in the world of luxury, it is thanks to this modernity,” said Louis Vuitton’s chairman and chief executive officer Michael Burke.
The visual journey through the history of the house revisits its innovations in technology and design, traveling from the brand’s beginnings in 1854 to the present day using rare or celebrated objects from the Louis

Acne Studios to Open Second Store in Los Angeles

Amid denials of reports touting a potential sale, Acne Studios is chugging along with its global retail expansion plans.
On Friday, the 21-year-old Stockholm-based brand will open its newest store in West Hollywood, its second Los Angeles location following its downtown L.A. opening in 2013.
The 2,700-square-foot store at 8920 Melrose Avenue, down the street from Maxfield and James Perse, and around the corner from Hedi Slimane’s design studio and Jenni Kayne, is the company’s 54th location worldwide.

“L.A. is one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the world. We keep coming back to the city for inspiration and for the special atmosphere. Downtown L.A. was a great starting point for us, but we always knew we wanted a store on the westside also. Anyone who has ever been stuck in L.A. traffic will understand why. Store scouting is always about the combination of space and location, and in 8920 Melrose Avenue we were lucky enough to find what we were looking for on both parameters. We love the mood of this store,” said Mattias Magnusson, Acne’s chief executive officer.
As a niche yet relatively mature company, Acne can afford to think outside the box. “The retail

FabFitFun Aims to Create Urban Oasis in Downtown Los Angeles

ALL BOXED UP: Subscription box firm FabFitFun is back for round two in the world of pop-ups with one set for downtown Los Angeles.
The West Hollywood company tested its first in-real-life concept at its headquarters in October, in a move cofounder and co-chief executive officer Daniel Broukhim said the team was “really, really thrilled with the outcome and thought it was a resounding success.”
“It was a positive and in terms of what we learned about our customer, we’re tapping into something we already know, which is that there’s a big community around FabFitFun and there are people who love FabFitFun,” Broukhim said. “To the extent that we can provide experiences for our loyal members who love the boxes, love the content, love the community element… and other things that we provide people within our membership, we want to bring people together more and more.”
To that end, the company has what it’s calling an installation set up for the weekend at Grand Central Market. The two-day pop-up will include hand-painted cacti and plants, sale of the company’s spring box and photo opps that, if posted to social media, can be used for a discount on the box.

Band of Outsiders to Open Pop-up Shop at Fred Segal in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a town famous for its second acts, and now two of its recently rebooted fashion brands are coming together for a new production. L.A.-founded men’s wear brand Band of Outsiders is returning to its hometown for the first time since its recent reboot, with the launch of a pop-up shop and window at Fred Segal’s equally new Sunset Boulevard flagship in West Hollywood. Open from Feb. 8 to 18, the pop-up will be the only retailer in L.A. to sell Band’s spring collection, which was first shown during London Fashion Week Men’s in June.

The two brands — Band now based in London and Fred Segal’s executives now based in New York — came together through the Liberty trade fair. “Our merchandising and commercial director, Katharina Groborz, met Brian Nylas from Fred Segal through Eitan Braham from Liberty Fairs, in New York,” said Daniel Hettman, Band’s brand director. “Fred Segal and Band of Outsiders already had a great partnership in the past, so Katharina and Brian were especially excited about creating this new project together.”
Hettman continued, “L.A. has always been a very important city for the brand, considering

Quick fixes for what ails the Los Angeles Kings

Adidas Y-3 Store Returns to Los Angeles

Y-3 is back in Los Angeles, planting a flag this time on La Brea Avenue.
Los Angeles marks the fourth Y-3 unit in the U.S. with stores globally now totaling 104.
“As a brand, the U.S. market is extremely important, with Los Angeles being a key city,” said Torben Schumacher, Adidas Originals general manager. “We saw such success and excitement among our customers when we opened the previous pop-up shops, and we felt it was time to re-establish a presence and continue to build momentum in the city.”
The brand had been in the market in the past with temporary shops, one in 2007 on Sunset Boulevard and another between 2008 and 2009 on Melrose Avenue. The permanent door aims to serve a customer base already in the market with an appetite for the brand, which is a partnership between the sportswear firm and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamato. The label was originally created to focus on the merging of fashion and streetwear, a convergence that’s clearly taken hold more broadly across industries the past few years.
“There is an existing audience in Los Angeles that we want to explore further and give a chance to interact with the brand on a more tangible level,”

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian Feed the Homeless in Los Angeles — with North West’s Help!

Kim Kardashian West is holding true to her promise of helping the homeless.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 37, volunteered at the Los Angeles Food Bank with her older sister, Kourtney, and her 4-year-old daughter, North West.

Kim and Kourtney, 38, were thanked for their volunteer work by the food bank, who tweeted about it on Monday.

“Thank you @KimKardashian and @kourtneykardashian for donating food and volunteering at the Food Bank!” the tweet read. “Join them in the fight against hunger by donating at lafoodbank.org/donate #wefeedla.”

On Sunday’s episode of the family’s hit E! series, Kim, along with her sisters Khloé, 33, and Kourtney, 38, realized how severe homelessness had gotten in Los Angeles as they were driving through Skid Row, a part of the cities downtown area.

“My dad used to drive us to Skid Row when we were little, to show us that the rest of the world doesn’t live how we live in Beverly Hills,” said Kim “And that always stuck with me.”

“I think people are blind and kind of like to live in their bubble and ignore what’s really going on,” said Khloé.

Kim decided that the time had come to do something to help.

“I am just at a point in my life where I don’t want to be naïve anymore,” she admitted. “And I want to use my platform to get other people involved. … I just hope that I can shine a light on this issue, and hopefully more people will come together and we can figure out a solution for this.”

“I don’t know what the answer is to get people off the streets, but I’m so willing to help in any way that I can,” she continued. “I just want to bring awareness to this issue. It makes me feel really sad that people are just living like this, and the problem is getting worse.”

Khloé and Kim decided to meet with the staff at Union Rescue Mission, one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in L.A., where they learned that there are around 47,000 homeless people in the area with just 12,000 shelter beds to go around. (More recent statistics point to an even higher number of affected individuals: 58,000.)

“Seeing that it’s like, this whole community — it’s so unsanitary, so not safe,” said Kim. “It was heartbreaking to see these living conditions.”

“I know that this is not something that I can fix by myself,” she added. “But I hope that everything that I’m learning will hopefully wake something up in other people.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Deciding to focus their efforts on women and children, Kim and her team organized a party at the Alexandria House, a long-term shelter for women and single mothers. They partnered with companies to provide a range of products and services such as money management coaching and résumé workshopping.

Several women who have been supported by the Alexandria House also got the chance to tell their stories and share their experiences with homelessness, including a former athlete who was kicked out of the house at 17.

“There are so many circumstances that can lead to this situation for so many people — this could happen to anyone,” said Kim. “It’s so important to understand that not everyone on the street is a drug addict.”

Alice McCall Fetes Collection in Los Angeles With Rainey Qualley

Australian designer Alice McCall, known for her colorful playsuits and rompers, showed off a new, elevated collection for spring 2018 in Los Angeles on Thursday night with help from campaign face Stella Maxwell and singer Rainey Qualley. The brand has become a favorite of “It” girl Kaia Gerber, who has worn it three times this month, as well as Emma Roberts and Chrissy Teigen.

The warm, breezy evening on the balcony of Chateau Marmont’s penthouse drew actresses Jaime King, Tallulah Belle Willis, Rebecca Dayan, Georgie Flores and Greer Grammer, as well as stylists Brit Elkin, Dani Michelle, Erica Cloud, Ilaria Urbinati, Jen Rade, Jeanann Williams, Jessica Paster, Lindsey Dupuis and Lysa Cooper.
“This can’t be just a hen party,” remarked McCall, who made sure that guests also brought male plus-ones to liven things up. While models mingled among the crowd wearing McCall’s shirred, sheer cocktail dresses, Qualley and her band Rainsford gave an acoustic performance in the living room. That later gave way to a raucous dance party with McCall leading the band of models.

Gentle Monster to Open Second U.S. Store in Downtown Los Angeles

Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster will open its second U.S. location and first West Coast store in downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 5 in an impressive new space that embodies the “high-end experimentation” and disruption the brand has become known for with its product, space, styling, culture redesign and technology.
The 4,800-square-foot museum-like space at 814 S. Broadway will include kinetic sculpture and interior installations by Floria Sigisomondi, and the opening night party will feature a performance by Victoria Modesta.
The Los Angeles store experience was inspired by traditional methods of harvesting, as the stretched path inside guides visitors through a journey reimagining the process of harvesting, drying and threshing ripened rice crops. The space was designed to touch on ideas associated with the season, and fall being the time of harvest.
Scarecrows greet visitors high on top of terraced “fields,” where mother-of-pearl finishes add a layer of Eastern ambience. Nearly 2,000 metallic rods, symbolizing rice, stand just behind the inner entrance. The twigs left after the harvest are represented by rugs designed by knitting designer Misu A Barbe. An installation by artist Jung Uk Yang at the far back of the space represents the final step in harvesting rice: threshing.

Berluti Opens First Los Angeles Area Store

Berluti’s Parisian world of leather goods has made its way to the Los Angeles market.
The Paris-based maker of shoes, accessories and apparel bowed its first boutique in the Los Angeles area, located in Beverly Hills on Brighton Way. This marks the company’s second stand-alone store in California after South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. The company also has a shop-in-shop store at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco.
“This emblematic Beverly Hills address is an affirmation of our presence in the U.S. and marks the opening of our fifth store in America,” said Berluti chief executive officer Antoine Arnault in a statement. “The innovative new concept pays homage to Los Angeles while remaining faithful to Berluti’s deep traditions in the art of leather and patina.”
The 1,100-square-foot space was designed with herringbone patterned wood floors, gray walls, onyx and lacquered fixtures and touches of bronze.
The Beverly Hills boutique, which held a soft opening this week, exclusively carries Berluti’s Playfield sneaker in natural lizard.
The company, founded in 1895 as a shoemaker, has since gone on to introduce leather goods in 2005 followed by apparel in 2011.
Berluti operates more than 45 stores globally.

What to Watch: Blurring Fashion, Art and Commerce at Made Los Angeles

The fusion of fashion, art and commerce continues to be a winning formula. Made Los Angeles has seized on that.
The two-day event went for a second go in Los Angeles this past June with a decidedly strong focus on the intersection of hip-hop streetwear collaborations with collections flanked by performances from Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Yung Jake and A$ AP Ferg in conjunction with labels Rochambeau, 424, Joyrich and Pleasures.
The result was a sold out show two years in a row and a spokesperson for IMG, the event’s parent, confirmed Made LA will be back in 2018.
“We wanted to do something different….Technology, music, clothes and putting it all together in one, cohesive project is pretty dope,” Pleasures’ Alex Taylor said during a panel at Made LA this year. “I think people are taking notice of that.”
Made started off in New York as a way to offer free runway space and was acquired in 2015 by WME-IMG with a bid to expand the event’s reach beyond the fashion show.
The rise of L.A. food and fashion with an existing base of music seemed like the right formula for the Los Angeles iteration, according to IMG senior vice president and managing director Catherine Bennett.

Five Four Opens Pop-up in Los Angeles

Five Four is dipping back into the brick-and-mortar game.
The online men’s wear retailer, which started out as a streetwear brand with multiple mall stores in California, has teamed with Alfred Coffee at 8428 Melrose Place in West Hollywood on a pop-up shop.
The temporary store celebrates the launch of Oshenta, Five Four’s new eyewear brand, and FiveFourMan.com, which will go live this fall. Five Four sells merchandise from each of its private labels on separate sites. FiveFourMan.com will bring all of these assortments together under one platform.
“We wanted to create a place where people could touch and feel and see the product,” said Andres Izquieta, who cofounded the business in 2002 with Dee Murthy. “It’s been a good experience to talk with the customers about product and show them our vision off-line.”
The 350-square-foot space, which will be open through September, carries fashion items from each of Five Four’s brands, which includes Five Four, its core line, New Republic, its footwear line designed by Mark McNairy, Grand AC, its activewear line, and now Oshenta, its eyewear collection. Izquieta said the pop-up is a traditional retail experience, but customers are able to see the full inventory from three in-store iPads from which they can order products.

They’ve tapped men’s wear brands including Roc96 x MadeWorn, Pyer Moss, Buscemi, Cazal and Hall of Fame to produce co-branded capsule collections.
The show’s costume designer, Tiffany Hasbourne, said the pop-up would bring the “‘Ballers’ aesthetic to life.”

The Lions Modeling Agency Opens Los Angeles Office

The Lions Model Management, the three-year-old New York-based boutique modeling agency whose clients include Irina Shayk, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, Adwoa Aboah and Cameron Russell, has opened a new office in Los Angeles. The Lions L.A. is the second location in the United States for the upstart agency, which has seen rapid growth since its launch.
The new location marks a strategic expansion, tapping into Los Angeles’s suddenly buzzy fashion scene. “From the beginning, we’ve built The Lions on a non-traditional business model that looks beyond measurements to find clients who have unique qualities and we work to develop their profiles,” said Ali Kavoussi, one of the agency’s managing partners. “As the fashion industry continues to evolve, opening an outpost in L.A. is a natural next step as we continue to grow our business.”
Since its launch in 2014, The Lions has taken a different approach to organizing its roster with a fluid board, not segmenting models by gender, ethnicity, size or any other parameter. The agency also devotes time and resources to helping models find their voice and create their own personal brands, which, of course, leads to more lucrative jobs from companies seeking “authentic” and quirky personalities.

Los Angeles Girl-About-Town Paige Elkington Launches Handbag Line

Los Angeles-based PYT Paige Elkington is off to the races.
The model-slash-actress — who recently appeared in one of Playboy magazine’s new fashion-inclined photo shoots — has launched a handbag line inspired by equestrian competition ribbons.
The pin-tucked mementos provided strong visual reference to Elkington — a former equestrian herself.

Model Paige Elkington Launches Handbag Line

“I did [ride horses] but I also just love the ribbons so much. It’s more about a love for those ribbons. Everyone has been doing a fun clutch, a fun bag [recently] and that kind of took over — those bags really spoke to me, I’ve never carried a normal purse. I wanted to make something that represented me and my style,” she said.
The petite, vegan handbags are being sold direct-to-consumer through Elkington’s web site. The bags, which are made in New York of upcycled, dead-stock fabrics, are priced at $ 525.
Each bag comes with a detachable strap, and is lined in contrast fabric.
While the style is currently available in two colors — red and blue — Elkington has a bigger goal in mind.
“My ideal plan is to make them customizable, where you can choose your color and also get initials embroidered on the center and pick the thread color.

Episode 1

2017-02-06-1486390998-4715514-labc1.jpeg

Though soundcasting may be as fresh as a digital medium gets, its roots stretch back almost a century, to when radio broadcasting began. Included in those early days were broadcasts from an organization called the Los Angeles Breakfast Club, a group made up of Southern California business people, celebrities and just plain folks who got together every Wednesday morning to eat, network, and listen to guest speakers.

Established in 1925, the LABC is still going (although it almost didn’t make it) and is seeing resurgence in interest thanks to the efforts of new, younger members such as Board President Lily Holleman. She, in turn, got Phil Leirness involved in the club.

The co-host and co-producer of the Chillpak Hollywood Hour (along with TV’s Dean Haglund (The X-Files)), a soundcast that is in its 10th year, Leirness is discovered an untapped treasure the deeper he looked into the LABC’s rich history. That treasure was in the form of piles of audiotape, which was the moldering archive of what once was the Breakfast Club’s weekly radio show.

During the heydays of “old time radio”, the LABC had a weekly show that featured its members and many guest speakers, a subject that was fascinating to Leirness who has been painstakingly digitizing and cleaning up the quality of tapes that, in some cases, were very likely on the verge of not being playable ever again. From the outset, and as he was trying to think of a way to help bring attention back to a long-standing Los Angeles institution, he was struck by the irony of re-broadcasting that original content once again.

The premiere episode of The Los Angeles Breakfast Club: ON THE AIR, has launched as a special presentation of Leirness’ Chillpak Hollywood Hour but will soon have its own feed as a monthly series. In the installment, Leirness lays out the concept of the LABC for the listener and a bit of its history, before playing some of the “found footage” recorded live at Friendship Auditorium (“the Shrine of Friendship”) at the base of Griffith Park.

The main feature of this kickoff is a visit to the club by President Calvin Coolidge in 1927, who addressed the club (and the radio audience) before sitting down to eat. There’s also audio from various LABC members recorded in 1975, who recall Coolidge’s visit. In this first hour there are plenty of interesting tidbits of footage, including a musical performance by a singer whose identity has been lost to time, and it’s all curated by Leirness who clearly has a deep interest in this slice of Los Angeles history and culture.

To bring things current with the Breakfast Club, he also talks to Holleman towards the end of the episode, who tells us about the current state of the club, mentions a slate of upcoming speakers, and encourages anyone either living or visiting in the Los Angeles area to drop by any Wednesday morning, bright and early at 7:00 AM, and experience the Los Angeles Breakfast Club for themselves.

Additional details about the event could not immediately be learned. Dior Lady Art Los Angeles Pop-Up Boutique Opens on Rodeo Drive

LOS ANGELES – Dior has planted a new temporary flag on the West Coast with the opening of its only pop-up boutique dedicated to the Dior Lady Art collaboration, at 201 N. Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Situated at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard, one block south of Dior’s permanent Rodeo Drive store and in the same building that once housed Bulgari’s flagship and Louis Vuitton’s temporary digs, the the first-floor space makes good use of the building’s massive limestone facade and three-story glass tower as branding billboards.
The Dior Lady Art collaboration made its official debut at Art Basel Miami Beach last week. The house commissioned seven American and British contemporary artists – Mat Collishaw, Ian Davenport, Daniel Gordon, Chris Martin, Jason Martin, Matthew Porter, and Marc Quinn – to express their own visions onto limited editions of the Lady Dior bag and other accessories.

Inside, the pop-up store references its Los Angeles setting with a gold Walk of Fame-style star – the symbol also being a favorite of the late Christian Dior – and a gold mannequin that mimics an Oscar statuette, albeit as a female sculpture

Rachel Zoe Sets Fall 2017 Fashion Presentation in Los Angeles

Rachel Zoe, who hosted a dinner for her winter edition Box of Style on Wednesday night at Chateau Marmont, is already thinking ahead to fall 2017. The Los Angeles-based designer and stylist decided to present her next collection in L.A. at the beginning of February ahead of New York Fashion Week, where she has traditionally shown her main collections.
“I’m still a small designer; I can’t take over the Griffith Observatory, but I felt it was time to own being an L.A. designer,” said Zoe, who took her apparel business in-house this year. Zoe said she decided after her last New York show that it was time to switch coasts “for a minute.”
“It was our biggest and best-reviewed show yet, but I felt it was getting too big, and I’ve always been about a more intimate vibe, not a massive event,” she said. “I leave that to Tom, Tommy, Ralph and Marc, who have earned it.” Tommy Hilfiger just announced his Feb. 8 Los Angeles show, which will no doubt be on the larger side, and Tom Ford is said to be staging another show in L.A. as well.
Zoe plans on a dinner event and presentation with “a focused and great

Interior Designer Tatum Kendrick Opens Fashion Boutique in Los Angeles

Tatum Kendrick is making a loop from fashion to interior design and back to fashion via her new boutique in Los Angeles.
On a gritty stretch between downtown and the hipster haven of Silver Lake, behind a black iron door shaped like a woman’s hourglass silhouette, the former DKNY publicist is putting the final touches on You’re So Baby before unveiling it to the public on Dec. 1. Reflecting what she dubs “the edgy, sexy, feminine point of view, rather than California cool,” which is the raison d’être of many retailers here, the 900-square-foot shop in Echo Park is decorated like an inviting apartment inhabited by a woman who assuredly mixes blush pink floors with a leopard spot couch.
In addition to vintage Cartier lighters and jewelry by Hervé Van der Straeten and Gabriela Artigas, Kendrick also offers lingerie by Bordelle and TyLynn Nguyen, fragrances from Serge Lutens and erotic wallpaper drawn by Natalie Krim. In her pursuit of exclusive fashion finds, she experiments with collaborations, like a cashmere-mohair cropped sweater designed by Grant Knits, made unique to the store with balloon sleeves and crocheted edges. She does draw a line where it comes to denim and other sporty looks that are

Ashton Kutcher’s Los Angeles Guide: Airbnb Investor Shares His Favorite Haunts on App

Ashton Kutcher has added another job to his diverse resumé: travel guide.

Well, virtual travel guide, anyway. The 38-year-old actor has shared his favorite Los Angeles gems on Airbnb’s newly launched “Places” section, which allows locals to curate their town’s hot spots for Airbnb visitors. Kutcher, who spoke at this weekend’s Airbnb Open and was interrupted by a protestor, is one of the first celebs to share his must-visit list. Here are his picks for places to eat, play and score free popcorn in the City of Angels.

Comoncy Beverly Hills
“I love this counter-service place for a quick family breakfast. They serve Equator coffee, by far the best cup in town. Get the avocado toast—olive bread with avocado and two poached eggs on top.”

RELATED: Kendall Jenner’s New York City Bucket List: ‘I’ve Always Wanted to Go to the Museum of Sex’

Travel Town Museum
“This is a great museum in Griffith Park where you can take the kids to check out old steam trains, go on a train ride, and explore LA’s past. And it’s free—you just pay if you want to ride the train.”

Skirball Center
“Inside this cultural center, there’s a room-sized Noah’s Ark where kids can load handmade wooden animals and climb through rope tunnels. It’s a perfect fun house, with activities, music, and stories.”

Santa Monica Pier Aquarium
“This is a little hidden gem. It’s nothing fancy but is a good 30 minutes of entertainment—kids can touch the starfish and sea urchins. And every species is from Santa Monica Bay.”

Los Angeles County Museum of Art
“Activities for kids and amazing art and culture for everyone—they have classes and even a special gallery for children and families. Anyone under 18 can become a member for free.”

Lake Hollywood Reservoir
“A super simple hike that’s flat and easy for everyone but still gives you a cool view of the Hollywood sign and Mulholland Dam.”

Sweet Rose Creamery Brentwood
“They have awesome seasonal flavors that are always changing, and they use quality ingredients. They have a nice contained patio, too.”

iPic Theaters Westwood
“Take in a movie and dinner in one fell swoop with kid-friendly food, easy service, and adult beverages. It’s worth it to get the premium plus seats — they’re comfy and you get free popcorn.”

Rocket Fizz Westwood
“Kids love a great candy store, and so do I. Here, you can get your sugar high with all the variety in the world. They have a lot of entertaining gag gifts to keep you busy, too.”

Kutcher, who is an investor in the tech company, also admitted over the weekend that he lived in Airbnbs for a year after his divorce from ex-wife Demi Moore. Although he’s no longer house-hopping, he’s still passionate about expanding the hospitality brand’s growing list of features, including “Places,” “Experiences,” and further down the line, “Services,” and “Flights.”

Tom Ford Dresses Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams and ‘Nocturnal Animals’ Cast for Los Angeles Screening

Tom Ford scored another coup both onscreen and off, outfitting the cast of his film “Nocturnal Animals” for its Los Angeles screening on Friday night. Lead actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams arrived at the Hammer Museum in a navy Shelton suit and black cross-back dress, respectively, followed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon and Armie Hammer, also suited up in Ford. Aussie actress Isla Fisher, who plays a fictional version of Adams in the film, and English thespian Andrea Riseborough, who plays a Los Angeles society hostess, also donned outfits by Ford, as did guests Amber Valletta, January Jones and Rita Ora.
The Los Angeles screening comes after the film made its world premiere in September at the Venice Film Festival, where Ford won the Silver Lion prize, followed by its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. In between, Ford also premiered his first see-now-buy-now collection during New York Fashion Week.
While Ford called his actors a “safety net” explaining, “when you have great actors you get great performances,” his cast was quick to sing his praises as a director.
“He’s honest, open, thoughtful and precise; he knows exactly what he wants and he’s got a very strong eye for

Scotch & Soda to Open Additional Stores in New York and Los Angeles

Scotch & Soda is extending its U.S. retail presence.
The Amsterdam-based casual sportswear brand opened a Beverly Hills location this month and will open a Williamsburg, Brooklyn, unit in November.
The Beverly Hills location will be Scotch & Soda’s second Los Angeles shop — it has a store in Venice Beach. The 1,500-square-foot space at 365 North Beverly Drive carries both the men’s and women’s collections. The store features Scotch & Soda’s interior design signatures — brass fittings, glass cabinets and wooden herringbone flooring — with additions including a wall adorned with hanging plants and a facade made from handmade Moroccan tiles.
The Williamsburg store joins Scotch & Soda’s three New York City boutiques. The retailer opened a Greenwich Village shop in May. The 1,800-square-foot Williamsburg unit will be located at 240-242 Bedford Avenue and also carry both the men’s and women’s assortments. The store, which is housed in a former industrial factory hall, will boast high ceilings along with concrete and steel details.
In 2014, the brand recruited Ari Hoffman, previously of Gant and Benetton, to serve as chief executive officer of its U.S. operations. Hoffman was tasked with further developing the retailer’s U.S. business. Scotch & Soda has more than 150 stores

Back-to-School Style: New York City vs. Los Angeles

We had a feeling that teenagers who live on opposite coasts might just rock a slightly different back-to-school style. So we talked to 14 high school students — seven in New York City and seven in Los Angeles — about their overall approach to fashion, where they shop and what they plan to wear when they return to the classroom in the coming weeks. And then we dressed them in an outfit of their choosing from a selection curated by our stylists on both coasts and photographed them on the streets of Williamsburg, N.Y., and West L.A.
A touch of downtown cool — and in some cases, a bit of preppy polish — and always casual. That was the consensus of the teens in the greater New York City area when asked to describe their respective styles at the Williamsburg photo shoot. Ranging in age from 15 to 18, they showed up in their own outfits — the boys in khakis and polos, the girls in a mix of skinny jeans or shorts with T-shirts and dresses — before being styled in b-t-s looks that suited their fashion preferences.
The students attend a mix of public, private and performing arts high schools.

Bloomingdale’s Celebrates Style Icons in Los Angeles

LA LA LAND: After a brutal winter on the East Coast, Bloomingdale’s executives enjoyed a stylish spring break in Los Angeles. Following last fall’s style icons-themed marketing campaign that featured seven New Yorkers — including Eidos creative director Antonio Ciongoli and restaurateur Michael Chernow, as well as commentary by blogger Michael Williams from A Continuous Lean — the executives celebrated the digital initiative’s L.A. edition on Thursday night with Departures magazine.
“I always appreciated L.A. style, especially casual sportswear,” said Kevin Harter, vice president for men’s fashion direction at Bloomingdale’s. “Guys out here have a good take on individual style. We came in and did some research and found seven guys that were diverse, with different ages and different looks.”
Those diverse men included Toms founder Blake Mycoskie, art curator Franklin Sirmans, stylist Johnny Wujek, actor Manish Dayal, chef Roy Choi, eyewear designer Garrett Leight and TV production head Tom Leach.
After a shopping event at the Bloomingdale’s store in Beverly Center, where Nylon magazine cofounders Marvin and Jaclynn Jarrett dropped by, the party moved to the Palm restaurant in Beverly Hills. Still, the icons didn’t rest on their laurels. Wujek took a break from prepping Katy Perry’s wardrobe for her forthcoming concert

A Conversation with Chris Davies, Founder, “Photo Independent: The International Exposition of Contemporary Photography”, Los Angeles

Chris Davies is the President of Fabrik Media, a Los Angeles-based publishing and marketing agency. Concerned by the art fair under-representation of otherwise talented photographers, he founded “Photo Independent: The International Exposition of Contemporary Photography”, held this year from April 25th to the 27th at the Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

The exhibition, the first of its kind in Los Angeles, features the work of 70 photographers from around the world. The Selection Committee included Daniel Cornell, Palm Springs Art Museum, Graham Howe, curator, photo-historian, and artist, Sarah Lee, curator and gallerist, and Eve Schillo Curatorial Assistant at the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at LACMA. The exhibition also includes a Guest of Honor, Andy Summers, photographer and member of “The Police”; a Special Exhibitions section; and a series of talks, “The Dialogue,” meant to deepen one’s knowledge of contemporary photography.

JS: Staging the show in a movie studio was, to put it mildly, inspired. How did you come up with that?

CD: I’ve had the idea for this kind of fair for several years now, but wasn’t sure where to stage it (pardon the pun). Then once I saw Paris Photo last year at Paramount Studios, it dawned on me that Raleigh Studios would be the perfect venue and partner for this type of fair. I’ve been on the lot many, many times and loved the feeling of Raleigh Studios.

JS: What was your inspiration for the show? Was there an aha-moment or was it just a gnawing impression that the medium was given short shrift?

CD: Actually, not just the medium, but artists are being given a short shrift. The art fair system is such that if you’re not a gallery or part of a gallery’s stable of artists you cannot exhibit your work at traditional art fairs. I’ve been working with artists for over 20 years as publisher and marketing consultant, and have had many discussions with artists regarding art fairs and their inability to exhibit there because they don’t have a gallery representing them or their dealer that does represent them can’t bring all their artists to the fair. And as mentioned earlier this idea had been percolating for a while.

JS: Why do you think photography is underrepresented at art fairs? Is it cyclical, that is, is it because at the moment the pendulum of art swings more towards installations and painting and less towards photography? Or do you think there is something else at work here?

CD: For a long time there has been a prejudice against photography in the art world. There are still some folk that tell me that painting is art, and photography is not, because there is more than one print struck. These people do not seem to understand the changing reality of our contemporary culture. Photography is the incendiary art form of our time. Photography, Cinema, video – it has permeated our culture to the point where I sometimes wonder really, is there any other art that comes before a camera.

I am being a tad hyperbolic here, but really it’s about time that those among us who practice the art of photography and have raised the bar on the medium, should now be shown and acknowledged as the amazing artists that they are.

JS: What kind of support, especially initially, did you have from the Los Angeles art community?

CD: I have had tremendous support from the Los Angeles art community. Especially from other art fairs here in LA, specifically Photo LA and the Los Angeles Art Show, both mainstays in January’s fair season. Local organizations such as the Los Angeles Art Association, Art Weekend LA, Create:Fixate, and many other such organizations have been tremendously supportive. Not to mention the artists themselves. They are excited about what we have created.

JS: What was the Selection Committee’s mandate in choosing the work?

CD: They were trying to choose work that was both traditional and unconventional.

We wanted to show work that demonstrated both technical proficiency and creative choices that were fresh and offbeat.

JS: Who chose the contributors in the Special Exhibitions segment of the fair?

CD: These exhibitions were chosen by me. I wanted to showcase Andy Summers, not because of who he is and known for, but for who he is as a photographer. He is a great photographer who has not been given the recognition he deserves because of where he came from.

The AX3 winners are breathtaking adventurers; there are some wonderful new talents here and I wanted the world to see them. The AX3 exhibition came from a photography competition Fabrik we ran last year, and I felt this would be a great venue to showcase this talent from all levels of photography — professionals, non-professionals, students and Mobile Photographers.

JS: You’ve set up an impressive educational program. How important is education to the fair itself and to photography in general?

CD: It’s usually a component of most art fairs, and ours as well. Photography is dynamic, it mirrors technology-driven culture that we live in, and its important to me to have the fair be a conduit of information, to communicate the new modalities in the medium and maybe to be a catalyst for the pioneers among us.

JS: What were your biggest challenges in staging the event?

CD: Getting the word out, and establishing a measure of trust so that artists would feel excited about the potential a showing here would give to their careers and at the same time I wanted the artists to feel a measure of safety coming here to Los Angeles.

JS: Is there anything you will do different next year?

CD: Start earlier.

JS: A scant weekend is a very brief amount of time. Especially if the weather turns sour. Will future Photo Independents also run that short?

CD: We will wait and see.

JS: What do you want to be peoples’ walkaway impression from the show?

CD: I want people to be bowled over. Great art makes you change the way you think about the world, change the way you see. I want people to dream about a work that they saw here and think about life in a fresh new way. That is what I feel when I see some of the work here.

JS: How will you determine whether the event has been a success?

CD: The level of enthusiasm among collectors and artists opening night was gratifying. And it was reflected in sales. There are so many artists who have sacrificed alot, to print their work and come to Los Angeles, in the hope that their work would be appreciated… and they are selling. That is what its all about, really, isn’t it?

JS: What can we look forward to in next year’s installment?

CD: I’m hopeful that we will include more of an international contingency in next year’s fair and add to our programming for both artists and photography collectors.

Jay Shells Posts Famous Rap Quotes Around Los Angeles In Clever Street Art Project

Get excited, California. Because artist Jay Shells has taken to Los Angeles with his clever guerrilla street sign installation, “Rap Quotes.”

New York art blog ANIMAL followed Shells as he cruised along the palm tree-lined streets of the Pacific coast city, placing his bright orange signs along the way. The declarations display quotes from famous hip hop artists like Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Warren G, and Notorious B.I.G., and are appropriately placed in the exact location the lyric calls out.

Take, for example, Warren G’s quote, “So I hooks a left on 2-1 and Lewis, some brothers shooting dice so I said ‘let’s do this,'” which can be seen on the corner of Lewis and 21st. Or Xzibit’s line, “Down La Cienega to bust a left on Venice where you can find me and mine,” which can of course be found on the corner of La Cienega and Venice.

The project aims to celebrate the roots of some of these artists as well as the cities that produce them. Shells previously took “Rap Quotes” to New York City, so we’re anxious to see which locale gets “signed” next. Feel free to speculate in the comments.

This Is What Los Angeles Could Look Like In 2033

Outsiders stereotype Los Angeles as car-addicted, polluted and lacking in public transit. But the City of Angels has undergone major changes over the past few decades.

LA is moving toward a greener future, friendlier to pedestrians, metro users and bicyclists. There are various development projects planned, particularly in downtown and Hollywood, which are becoming more dense and vertically-built. These projects preserve historic architecture while adding apartments, parks, retail and entertainment.

These 20 architectural renderings give us a glimpse into a stunning Los Angeles of the future…

1. Park 101
Park 101 would cover a portion of the 101 freeway in downtown with a park. As it’s currently envisioned, Park 101 would connect the Civic Center (south of the freeway) with Olvera Street, Chinatown and Union Station (north of the freeway). In August, the LA City Council unanimously approved a motion to seek funding for the proposal.

2. Greenway 2020
The Greenway 2020 project aims to create a continuous 51-mile corridor that will run along a restored LA River by 2020. “Instead of crowded streets and honking horns on your morning commute, imagine chirping birds, flowing water and numerous coffee shops along the way to work,” the project site reads. The river will also become a recreational destination for kayaking, fishing, picnicking and even yoga classes or bike-in movies.

3. High-Speed Rail
The California High-Speed Rail is a planned high-speed bullet train that would run from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Initial funding for the over-300-mile-long project was approved by California voters in 2008, and, although there have been legal setbacks, the state legislature overwhelmingly supports the project. California high-speed rail officials said Dec. 5 that engineering work, hiring and property buying are on pace and that construction will begin in January or February using federal money.

4. Subway to the Sea & Expo Line Extension
The Purple Line Extension, also known as the Subway to the Sea, will bring the subway westward from Koreatown to the Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City, Westwood and, depending on funding, possibly to the sea. Construction on the purple line will begin in 2014 and is expected to reach Westwood in 2035. The metro will also be expanding the Expo Line light rail in Culver City westward to the ocean, making a downtown-to-the-sea ride possible; construction is past the halfway point and is expected to be complete in 2015 or 2016.

5. Union Station

LA Metro is considering several redesign plans for Union Station. The plans are meant to improve passenger concourse experience, consolidate bus activity and possibly incorporate a future high-speed rail line. They also include preservation of the historic station, more open green space and improved pedestrian and bike paths. The Union Station Master Plan process involves lots of public input. The Metro is expected to pick a plan in spring 2014.

6. 6th Street Viaduct

Downtown LA’s 80-year-old Sixth Street bridge is at risk of falling during an earthquake, so last year the city announced a competition to replace it. The winners, HNTB, Michael Maltzan Architecture and AC Martin Partners, will build the bridge displayed below. They hope to add a space under the bridge for a market hall, restaurant, artist displays and film screenings. The $ 400 million dollar redesign is expected to begin in 2015, with completion scheduled for 2019.

7. LACMA

Six years ago, LACMA director Michael Govan commissioned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor to design a major new building to replace part of the museum. Zumthor’s proposed building, which he dubbed “Black Flower,” will be more than 30 feet into the air, with 360 degrees of glass offering views of the city. The building will have seven separate “pods” and entrances on all sides. It will also feature a solar farm roof that will be one of the largest in any city, capable of providing more energy than it consumes.

8. The Broad
Billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad is building a $ 140-million contemporary art museum in downtown LA to house his impressive art collection. The block-long, three-story museum will feature a porous, concrete veil sheathed in glass that will provide both natural light and a view of some of the works from the street. People will even get to view art still in storage through portal windows into the museum’s vault. The Broad will have free admission and is scheduled to open toward the end of 2014.

9. Bringing Back Broadway
Downtown LA’s Broadway corridor is the largest historic theater district west of the Mississippi and is the birthplace of vaudeville. But recently, retailers have been struggling with a high vacancy rate. Bringing Back Broadway is a ten-year revitalization plan for the area launched by city leaders and residents in 2008. The plan aims to reactivate closed theaters, revive the area’s historic streetcar and encourage cultural, entertainment and retail uses of vacant spaces.

10. My Figueroa
The Figueroa Corridor Streetscape project is redesigning four miles of streets that stretch from downtown to South LA to better accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders. The project, dubbed My Figueroa, includes better signalization and signage, high-visibility crosswalks, transit platforms and a three-mile bikeway. It also includes more trees, public art, bus shelters and bike racks. The $ 20 million project is funded by a Proposition 1C grant, which requires that construction be completed by the end of 2014.

11. Farmer’s Field
LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and developer AEG are still working on making Farmer’s Field — a proposed sports stadium, entertainment and new convention center — a reality. The proposed stadium, which could host an LA NFL team, would house up to 78,000 seats and feature a retractable roof. Farmer’s Field would be located in downtown, at the current West Hall of the LA Convention Center, alongside the STAPLES Center and LA Live.

12. Grand Avenue

Downtown LA’s Grand Park opened last summer, but the Grand Avenue project that was meant to bring foot-traffic to the area has been delayed for years. After submitting a Grand Avenue proposal in 2006, famed architect Frank Gehry, with development firm Related Cos., submitted a second proposal for the area to city and county officials in November. Gehry’s $ 650-million proposal, a U-shaped plaza directly across from Walt Disney Concert Hall, includes shops, restaurants, terraces, pool decks, condos, apartments and a hotel. The goal is to break ground in 2015 and open in 2019.

13. Federal Courthouse

LA’s new federal courthouse will look like a shimmering cube “floating” over a stone base. The futuristic building is designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification (an environmental building standard), partially thanks to a serrated façade that both maximizes views and reduces solar heat gain by nearly 50 percent. The building is under construction now and is projected to be completed in 2016.

14. Wilshire Grand Center

At 73 stories, the Wilshire Grand will become the tallest building in the West. Expected to be complete in 2017, it will replace the now-demolished 1950s Wilshire Grand Hotel. Korean Airlines and AC Martin Partners’ design includes high-speed elevators that will send hotel guests to the 70th-floor “sky lobby” to check in to one of 900 rooms. The first three floors of the tower will be restaurants and shops, topped by 30 floors of offices.

15. The BLOC

Downtown LA’s Macy’s Plaza is about to get a complete makeover and be renamed The Bloc. The new space will include outdoor restaurant seating, new retail tenants and more entrances around the building, including sidewalk-front escalators. The center’s extremely outdated Macy’s will reportedly be updated to flagship status, offering higher-quality brands. Construction is expected to begin in early 2014 and be complete in late 2015.

16. Hollywood Park Tomorrow
The Hollywood Park Racetrack, which has seen better days since it opened in 1938, closed for good this year. Coming in its place will be a 25-acre project called Hollywood Park Tomorrow. It will include a 620,000-square-foot retail/entertainment center, 3,000 residential units, 75,000 square feet of offices, a 120,000-square-foot casino, a 300-room hotel and a four-acre civic site.
