Palace Skateboards Teams With Adidas for Court-Driven Apparel and Accessories Collaboration

For an elevated echelon of athletes, Wimbledon — with its grass courts, all-white dress code and strawberries and cream tradition — could be considered palatial in terms of sporting events. With 11 tournament wins, Roger Federer might be considered king.
In time for the crown jewel in London’s tennis circuit, the British skate label Palace has linked with Adidas to create a court-ready collection. The Adidas tennis by Palace collection debuts globally on July 3. To help get the message out, photographer Alasdair McLellan shot Palace-sponsored skateboarders Blondey McCoy, Lucien Clarke and Rory Milanes, along with Adidas-supported tennis players Sascha Zverev and 2017 Wimbledon women’s singles winner Garbiñe Muguruza.
The two brands have whipped up an assortment of items including a white terry tracksuit with removable sleeves, an engineered polo shirt, a graphic T-shirt and two styles of short. For the women’s range — a new frontier for Palace — there is a dress, a tank top with shorts, T-shirt and skirt. Each garment has a short legging in line with those worn by leading tennis stars.

RISD Apparel Design Seniors Serve Up Fashion Show With a Little Poetry on the Side

Twenty-three Apparel Design seniors at the Rhode Island School of Design showed their collections Saturday in Providence, but for the second consecutive year the event was held on Brown University’s nearby campus.
By welcoming the 600 guests to an afternoon runway show at the George V. Meehan Auditorium, and then an evening one on the nearby Ivy League campus, RISD ensured that every guest had a front row seat. This year’s talent was selected by a jury made up of Laurie Brewer, associate curator of Costumes & Textiles for RISD Museum of Art; Gill Linton, chief executive officer and editor in chief of Byronesque; William Exaros director of visual merchandising for U.S. multibrand retail at Chanel, and Neil Gilks, associate dean of Fashion, Fashion Design at The New School’s Parsons School of Design.
As an added twist, RISD department head of apparel design Lisa Z. Morgan suggested students use creative writing to further explore “the experiential motivations behind their looks,” as they developed their collections. Hennessy Taps Jean-Raymond for First Apparel Capsule

NEW YORK — Kerby Jean-Raymond bristles when it’s suggested that he’s a streetwear designer.
But there’s no denying the founder of Pyer Moss is popular with the trendsetting Millennials who define the movement. His first sneaker for Reebok, which dropped earlier this month, sold out within minutes and is being offered on resale sites for more than $ 500.
Now Jean-Raymond has designed a capsule collection for cognac brand Hennessy’s Wild Rabbit “Never stop. Never settle.” project.
The designer was commissioned to create a line inspired by Marshall “Major” Taylor, an African-American track cyclist who won the sprint event at the 1899 ICA Track Cycling World Championships in Montreal and went on to compile a storied career in the sport. However, Taylor, who died in 1932 and was once esteemed as the fastest man on two wheels, is largely unknown today.
But with the help of Hennessy, ESPN and Jean-Raymond, that’s about to change.

Jaden Smith, Ronnie Fieg Offer Advice to Apparel Industry

LAS VEGAS — This season, Agenda, Capsule and Liberty partnered to present Assembly, a series of workshops, talks and keynotes that addressed various topics or issues plaguing the apparel industry.
On Monday night, Jeff Staple moderated a keynote session with Kith’s Ronnie Fieg and Jaden Smith, the son of Will and Jada Smith, who recently released an album “Syre” and has an animated Netflix series, “Neo Yokio,” a clothing line called Msfts and Just Water, an eco-friendly water company that sells its water in a paper-based bottle.
The talk was sprinkled with a few fun facts and surprise appearances. Smith revealed that the dreadlocks he cut off and took to an award show are now encased in a clear box at his parents’ house, and rapper Fat Joe stood up at one point to thank Fieg for the free Kith product and congratulate Smith on his work. Brooke Shields to Develop Apparel and Accessories Collection for QVC

BROOKE’S TAKE ON FASHION: Brooke Shields has created an apparel and accessories line exclusively for QVC called Brooke Shields Timeless. The contemporary collection will be unveiled on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. EST with the full collection launching March 14 at 11 p.m. EST.
The 52-year-old actress and model has been closely associated with the fashion industry throughout her career, having modeled for Calvin Klein Jeans as a 15-year-old. More recently, Raf Simons, chief creative officer of Calvin Klein Inc., etched Shields’ image onto its jeans, and Shields modeled Calvin Klein Underwear in a sexy cover photo shoot for Social Life Magazine’s July 4 issue. Having acted both on stage and TV, written several books and developed an Icon collection for MAC, Shields currently appears in a major recurring role in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Maverick Apparel Threatens Lawsuit Against Vlogger Logan Paul

An attorney for New York firm Maverick Apparel LLC has sent a cease-and-desist letter to vlogger Logan Paul for, among other things, trademark infringement.
Paul, who operates his own YouTube channel, has been the target of outrage the past several days after he posted a video of himself in Japan’s Aokigahara forest, a place that’s seen a high rate of suicides. Paul’s YouTube video, which has since been removed, includes footage of himself reacting to what appears to be a victim of suicide. Paul, who commands a subscriber base of 15.4 million through the video-sharing platform, has since publicly apologized for his actions.
Paul’s behavior and use of Maverick is now the subject of a demand letter sent Thursday by Maverick Apparel LLC, which has no affiliation to Maverick by Logan Paul merchandise.
Maverick Apparel, founded in 2005, sells juniors and children’s apparel in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The company alleges in its letter that its business has taken a hit from confusion in the market by some who believe the two businesses are related.
The letter was sent to Paul and his counsel along with Maverick Media of Beverly Hills. YouTube chief executive officer Susan Wojcicki was also included in the list

Entrepreneur Lindsay Jang to Launch Missbish Apparel

HONG KONG–If Alexander Wang and Glossier had a baby, you would end up with Missbish. At least that’s what co-founder Lindsay Jang, hopes. The serial entrepreneur who has launched buzzy Japanese restaurants Yardbird and Ronin is now turning her attention to the fashion world, gearing up to launch her first apparel line on Jan. 23rd.
The Canadian but Hong Kong-based business woman first founded Missbish three years ago with two friends, purely as an editorial platform, drawing inspiration by the success of Emily Weiss’ venture in cosmetics with Into the Gloss.
The site, which describes itself as a women’s fashion, fitness and lifestyle magazine, carries a street sensibility and regularly runs updates on the latest sneakers, leading to comparisons with Hypebae, the female arm ofHypebeast. Coincidentally, the Hypebeast founding team also happens to be Canadian and Hong Kong-based, but Jang says the comparisons really end there.

“Our target muse is someone who is independent, really into building community and being open to doing good things and feeling good about themselves,” Jang said. “Ultimately, looking good but that being a result of the other positive things she’s doing in her life.”

Untuckit Expanding Reach With Retail Stores, Other Apparel Categories

NEW YORK — Untuckit is an old-fashioned feel-good American success story.
Two business school buddies with not a stitch of fashion industry experience started a company in 2011 to provide a solution to a problem they saw in the men’s apparel market: button-down shirts that looked and fit properly when worn untucked.
The business launched as strictly an online play with just the one signature product and financed with $ 150,000 raised from friends and family. They came up with a signature sail insignia for the tail of the shirts and it was off to the races.
By last June, Untuckit had attracted the attention of California venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, which invested $ 30 million to fund the company’s growth.
Since its founding, Chris Riccobono, executive chairman, and his partner Aaron Sanandres, chief executive officer, have expanded into a range of men’s categories including polos, sweaters, sweatshirts, shorts and even sport coats as well as women’s wear and shoes. And Untuckit also operates 18 stores around the country.
Today, the brand will introduce its children’s collection, followed by men’s pants on Nov. 14. And by the first week in December, the company will increase its owned store count to 25, including three more units in

Stance Introduces Intimate Apparel

Stance is moving into the intimate apparel category.
The California-based brand, which launched in 2009 with socks, will introduce women’s intimates for fall.
According to Candy Harris, the executive vice president of the women’s division, her team started developing the assortment two years ago after feeling like there was something missing in the category.
“We wanted to develop product that wasn’t existing in the market with our aesthetic,” said Harris. “In this category women are marketed to in a very one-dimensional way and we wanted to shatter that and broaden the creative approach to the category.”

Harris said the design team took cues from fashion, streetwear and performance. They’ve brought the DNA of Stance into the line with bold prints and tapped Lauren Wasser, an amputee model and activist who suffered a near-death experience due to Toxic Shock Syndrome, to model the collection. Wasser will also join Stance’s Punks and Poets brand ambassadors roster and be featured in Stance’s new video series, “A Verse of Her Own.”
“Lauren kept showing up on our mood boards so we decided to just reach out,” said Harris. “When you meet her there is a sense of confidence that’s so compelling. She’s a major part of the storytelling and

Intimate Apparel Brands Focus on Innerwear as Outerwear

NEW YORK — As innerwear begins to function as apparel — click through any music festival gallery for proof — brands showing at the Curve New York trade show, which took place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center this week in New York, continue to think about functionality, duality and Instagram appeal when developing their collections.
“We are seeing a shift with lingerie. It’s becoming the main focal point,” said Jessica Pfister, vice president of Le Mystère. “Girls are wearing bodysuits with pants; bra tops with jackets. The expectation is comfort and quality.”
Le Mystère previewed its Infinite sheer T-shirt bra with an elastic-free, engineered edge that can be worn seven ways. It retails for around $ 65. They also showed a bodysuit anointed “smoothwear,” which retails for $ 89, and a sheer illusion demi scoop bra, which retails for around $ 60. According to Pfister, navy and peach are trending and retailers are looking for larger cup sizes.
“When I started out, everyone was a 34B. Now at minimum everyone is a D. Women are becoming more educated about the fit of bras,” said Pfister.

Nike Just Does It: Applies Footwear Technology to Apparel

 
Nike today is launching the Fe/Nom bra, the first apparel product to use Flyknit technology, which until now has been reserved for footwear.
“We’re going to apply the benefits across Nike apparel,” said Nicole Rendone, senior bra innovation designer at Nike. “We’ll continue to expand bras and all apparel, including leggings and socks. Flyknit could be used in anything. We think it’s huge. This is only the beginning.”
The new bra offers flexibility, breathability and conforms to the body in the same way that  Flyknit conforms exactly to the shape of a foot.
“This changes everything for us and for women,” said Rendone.  Asked why Nike chose a bra for its first Flyknit apparel product, Rendone said, “It’s an essential item. We felt the bra had the ultimate benefit and the largest challenge. We also thought the bra was the most exciting place to start.”
Nike Flyknit, which bowed at the 2012 London Summer Olympics with the Nike Flyknit Racer, is a digitally-engineered knitting process used in lightweight, formfitting and virtually seamless shoe uppers. The technology is used in Nike sport footwear including the Zoom Fearless Flyknit women’s training shoe and Kevin Durant’s signature Nike KD10.

Former Archaeologist Introduces Intimate Apparel and Knitwear Line

Over the past few seasons, the intimate apparel and lounge category has expanded, but Sasha Wixson believes there is still a white space for the type of product she’s creating.
“We think the underwear market is oversaturated in sports and comfort or on another hand, overtly vulgar products,” said Wixson, who is based in Paris. “There is nothing wrong with that and it has certainly flourished over the past decade, but it is opposing to what Wixson’s aesthetic and quality control values are about. Even our basic core pieces are beautiful, detailed and lasting.”
Wixson knows about details. The designer used to be an archaeologist before studying fashion design at Parsons and starting Wixson Paris, a men’s and women’s lounge, innerwear and knitwear brand, last year.
For the line, which is priced from $ 320 to $ 850, Wixson combined her love for art, fashion, colors, textures and self-expression of the civilizations to create pieces made from cashmere, silk, lace, Sea-Island Cotton and merino, which are decorated with freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals.
“The loungewear and knitwear pieces were conceived to transition between indoor and outdoor use,” said Wixson.

Alliance Apparel to Roll Out New Nightlife-Inspired Brand

KEEP ‘EM COMING: Alliance Apparel has plans Wednesday to launch the label H:ours to be sold through Revolve’s online shop.
The aim for the contemporary company’s latest line is to offer a collection of nighttime including form-fitting minidresses and bodysuits. The collection launches at an event set for Wednesday evening at Avenue L.A. that’s expected to draw Chanel Iman, Jasmine Tookes, Hailey Clauson, Chiara Ferragni and Olivia Culpo among others. H:ours at launch will retail from $ 98 to $ 338.
The rollout of Alliance’s latest collection is good timing as other Los Angeles brands playing in the contemporary space lose steam. Bebe is shuttering stores as BCBG Max Azria Group and its portfolio of brands wind their way through a bankruptcy restructuring.
Alliance has been on a tear more recently with its brand launches following its 2015 acquisition by Revolve for undisclosed terms. The deal brought Alliance’s portfolio — which at the time consisted of Lovers + Friends, Tularosa and NBD — into the multibranded e-tailer’s fold.
The deal was followed up not too long after with the launch of the footwear brand Raye. Last year saw the introduction of Majorelle and Grlfrnd denim along with a House of Harlow 1960 x Revolve collection.

The Tie Bar Dives Into Apparel

The Tie Bar is growing beyond accessories.
After testing shirts within its Chicago stores this past fall, the company will introduce a seasonal shirt collection, which will be available online and in stores this month. The brand is also returning to New York with a Madison Avenue pop-up that will offer custom suits starting in May.
“What was great about the shirt launch is that it showed us that we can be a men’s wear brand versus just a tie brand,” said Allyson Lewis, The Tie Bar’s chief executive officer. “These are natural extensions for us that our customer is asking for.”
The shirt collection is 100 percent cotton and features 11 styles that come in a standard and trim fit. The shirts retail for $ 55 or as a bundle at three for $ 140. Mitchell & Ness Revamps Apparel Section at NBA Store

The Mitchell & Ness apparel section at the NBA Store in New York has a new look.
The Philadelphia-based company has updated its Hardwood Classics department to mimic a locker room. Previously, the aesthetic was more in line with the rest of the NBA store, but now it features  lockers, custom-made walnut fixtures and two glass-encased displays that highlight the latest headwear and apparel. The section is stocked with jerseys, dad hats, snapbacks, warm-up jackets and shooting shirts.
To celebrate the launch, Mitchell & Ness has rereleased former NBA player Allen Iverson’s black NBA Finals jersey from 2001, which comes with an Iverson x Enterbay figurine. Iverson will appear at an in-store event today.
According to Adam Herstig, vice president of marketing at Mitchell & Ness, the brand hopes to partner directly with more NBA players. Other plans for 2017 include focusing on premium jerseys, collaborating with brands and doing more activations. During the NBA All Star Weekend in New Orleans last month, the brand operated a pop-up shop featuring Lids, Reebok and Sneaker Politics.

British Tweed Supplier Linton Launches Men’s Apparel in Japan

TOKYO—Linton, an English textile company that is primarily known for being Chanel‘s tweed supplier, is launching its first ready-to-wear line in Japan.
Linton Japan will launch Linton Men with a small collection of tweed jackets and coats starting with the fall season. The pieces are all made with Linton fabrics, but are designed and sewn in Japan. The company is targeting department stores and multi-brand boutiques, and anticipates the collection will hit stores in mid-August.
“The concept behind the brand is accessible luxury,” said designer, Yoritsugu Negaki during a launch event at Tokyo’s British embassy.
“As a luxury line, we are targeting customers in their 40s and up, but we expect actual customers to mainly be in their 50s and up.”
Prices for the pieces range from 88,560 yen, or $ 781, for a basic tweed jacket, to 162,000 yen, or $ 1,429, for a jacket made of a patchwork of different fabrics. Coats range from 118,800 yen, or $ 1,048, to 138,240 yen, or $ 1,219.
“We expect our customers will be the kind of people who can afford to buy a nice jacket and just wear it once or twice a month,” Negaki said. “We don’t see these as everyday items.”

Herschel Supply to Introduce Apparel

Herschel Supply Co. is ready to grow beyond bags and accessories.
The Vancouver-based brand, which was founded by brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack in 2009, will launch a men’s and women’s outerwear collection that will be available in June.
According to Lyndon, the outerwear line, like the company’s bags, is meant to help customers on their journeys, whether that’s their commute to work, trip to the gym or traveling around the world.
“We thought there was a white space in the market between high fashion and utility in the bag space and now we want to bring that same philosophy to outerwear,” said Lyndon.
uThe line includes the Voyage assortment, which consists of three men’s styles and two women’s styles created for the wind; and the Forecast lineup, which includes two men’s styles and two women’s styles designed for the rain. The Voyage collection includes lightweight, packable pieces such as a nylon coach jacket, anorak and poncho, while the Forecast lineup consists of more durable pieces including a hooded coach jacket and a parka. SoulCycle Teams With Free City for Apparel Collab

The ath-leisure trend of 2016 is still going strong and one of the originators of the wear-your-gym-clothes-to-brunch ethos is staking further claim into the category with a new collaboration.
SoulCycle, the cult indoor cycling studio is debuting its latest apparel collection with Free City on Dec. 9. The 10-piece collection includes zip-up hoodies in cool washed, long-sleeved shirts with graphic detail, two muscle tanks, both cropped and regular sweatpants, and a hooded silver anorak with fake fur detail. Pricing starts at $ 68 for the tank and goes up to $ 385 for the coat on soul-cycle.com.
This is the first-time SoulCycle has partnered with Free City. SoulCycle tapped into the burgeoning workout culture, and began building out its apparel business three years ago with an eponymous line. The line is incredibly popular among its riders. The firm has previously collaborated with Ramy Brook, Shopbop, Milly by Michelle Smith and the CFDA. Earlier this year, the fitness firm partnered with Target on a 10-city tour featuring three-day weekend events taught by certified SoulCycle instructors. The Target collaboration also included a Target x SoulCycle pop-up shop with specialized merch.
The company is expanding in several directions. In September, SoulCycle launched its first-ever men’s fitness apparel line.

Mack Weldon Introduces Apparel

Mack Weldon is moving beyond socks and underwear.
The e-commerce retailer, which launched in 2012, is known for its innerwear made from performance fabrics.
Founders Brian Berger and Michael Isaacman are bringing that signature into the apparel arena with a pair of sweatpants, a matching hoodie and a merino wool program that includes a short and long sleeve T-shirt in addition to long underwear. The sweats have a soft launch this week and the merino wool base layers will be available at the end of the month on Mack Weldon’s e-commerce site.
The hoodie, which retails for $ 88, and the sweatpants, which retail for $ 78, are made from a cotton French terry stretch material and come in gray, navy and white. The merino wool T-shirts range from $ 68 to $ 88.
According to Isaacman, who’s held merchandising positions at Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, the brand is attempting to bring elevated leisurewear that doesn’t look like activewear to the market.
“Most sweats have a more loose, casual aesthetic, and our line presents a much more refined silhouette,” Isaacman said. “We say it’s made for life beyond nine to five. You can wear it out to dinner and when walking the dog. It’s designed and engineered for adults.”

Gaultier Hits Tokyo to Launch Japan Apparel Collection

Jean Paul Gaultier held court at the French embassy in Tokyo on Wednesday to launch his collection for Japanese retail giant Seven & i Holdings. The project is Gaultier’s first fashion foray outside couture since he discontinued his own pret-a-porter line last year.
The designer said he was overwhelmed by the work involved in producing luxury ready-to-wear and the need to churn out several collections a year.
“I wanted to concentrate on what I like. What do I like? To make couture. To make pret-a-porter also, but not like the way it is now, because now you have to make pre-collection, cruise, all that, you know, which is a lot a lot of demand. And it doesn’t really stop…which is not good, because we have no time to think,” Gaultier told a press conference. “So I prefer to be free of that, and to make some capsules and some experiences and some new adventures that give me more freedom. And in that way I feel more free and more energetic and a little more excited.”
The line, called Jean Paul Gaultier for Sept Premieres, goes on sale Wednesday online and at Seibu and Sogo department stores and Ito Yokado general stores across Japan.

Rhone Apparel, which dubs itself a men’s active wear and lifestyle brand, has closed on a $ 5 million Series A round of financing.
Rhone has raised an aggregate of $ 6.2 million. Its last raise was $ 1.2 million in seed financing in late 2013.
The Series A round includes as investors: Steve Bornstein, former president and chief executive officer for the NFL Network and former chairman, president and ceo of ESPN; David Stern, NBA Commissioner Emeritus; Ryen Russillo, host of ESPN Radio’s Russillo & Kannell; Shane Battier, former NBA player, and M3 Ventures, an investment fund managed by former CAA executive Martin Dolfi.

Given its importance for consumer satisfaction and thus brand success, apparel fit is a major challenge for retailers and brands across the industry. Consequently there have been major developments in sizing research and how it can be used in apparel design. American Apparel Faces Tough Set of Challenges

American Apparel Inc. is teetering on the edge of chaos.
And if that in itself is nothing new, this time around the retailer’s facing an unusually thorny set of challenges on multiple fronts:
• Ousted founder Dov Charney continues to stir up trouble, from agitating an already disgruntled workforce to seeking a backer to buy the firm, moving ahead with arbitration and, tonight, appearing on ABC’s “20/20.”
• Fourth-quarter losses widened as sales fell more than 9 percent and workers are being furloughed at the Los Angeles factory.
• The brand is being reimagined with more of a social emphasis and some of the scantily clad sales associates long featured in its ads will be replaced with models.
• Shareholders have sued the company, claiming it failed to maintain control of its colorful founder.
Under Charney, American Apparel honed controversy to a high art and lurched from one loan with a sky-high interest rate to the next — always keeping just a step ahead of both the debt collector and Miss Manners.
But this time it’s not Charney who’s courting lenders, pumping up the brand and generally keeping the plates spinning at one of the most prominent U.S. apparel producers. That job now falls to chief executive officer Paula Schneider, who

Wendy Williams Introduces Apparel Line

WENDY’S WORLD: Wendy Williams is getting ready for her HSN debut. The talk show host introduced her new Wendy Williams collection during a fashion show Wednesday on her Fox-TV talk show, where she commented along with HSN show host Callie Northagen. “When designing it, I knew it had to be three things: fashionable, easy and affordable,” said Williams, who will be traveling to St. Petersburg, Fla., to make her first HSN appearance on March 28. Williams will appear live on HSN from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Williams’ collection, which is available on hsn.com, features 22 silhouettes from size XS to 3X. The collection is divided into workwear, weekend wear and loungewear, and every item retails for less than $ 100.
