Armani Privé Couture Fall 2018

It was 30 minutes (and 96 looks) in a 12-minute world, and worth every second of viewing.
On Tuesday evening in the gilded salons of the Italian Embassy, splendid in their intimacy, Giorgio Armani awed with his Armani Privé collection. It may have been his best ever. In his program notes, Armani said that he sought to capture “couture…as it once was: the authentic essence of luxury and perfection, the notion intended as instructional for ‘the young generation’ and the style of presentation, ‘almost regal.’”
If that sounds pedantic, it wasn’t at all. Rather, Armani presented an array of alluring, exquisitely crafted clothes that were elevated as befits the haute genre and diverse enough to satiate the desires of a range of couture clients.
Of course, Armani focused on high evening. He pioneered the red-carpet phenomenon as it exists today, and time and again he uses his Privé runway to remind that he’s not seceding a smidgen of his hard-earned turf to anyone. But first the daywear — lovely! And utterly controlled: sensible shoulder options on smart, shapely jackets; pants sans tricks (and mostly pants for day); the occasional well-placed flourish in a contrasting collar or graphic piping on a sleeve.
That all-neutral opening,

Armani Launches Second Edition of Filmmaking Workshop

MILAN – Giorgio Armani has called for applications for the second edition of Armani/Laboratorio. Introduced last August, the project consists of an intensive filmmaking workshop offered free of charge, which will allow participants to produce a short film.
Held at the designer’s Silos space starting from November, the workshop’s second edition will be led by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, whose “Call me by your name” movie received widespread critical acclaim and several accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award for Best Picture and for a BAFTA Award for Best Direction.
“Armani/Laboratorio is my idea of a ‘film atelier’ where stories are created by students working together with guidance and support from the most highly skilled key players in the industry,” said Armani.
“It’s my way of paying homage to the seventh art, the passion of a lifetime and a continuing source of inspiration. I’m privileged this year to do this with Luca Guadagnino, one of the most original and elegant directors on the Italian and international movie scenes.”
Guadagnino, who has cast Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton and Chloë Grace Moretz for his upcoming movie “Suspiria,” to be released in November, said he admires the designer for being a “man of his time.”

Giorgio Armani Men’s Spring 2019

With all of the week’s obsessions with everything from the new brand of streetwear to  wild prints and neons and Eighties and Nineties nostalgia, Giorgio Armani proved a welcoming relief from the trend chasing.
This was the Maestro in his element, a moment of softness and simplicity, taking the audience to a far-off place. The super-elegant collection – centered around the double-breasted jacket – catered to the languid lifestyle of a global nomad traveling around the world, pulling on myriad references but with a cohesiveness and coziness to his wardrobe.
Playing with proportions, the designer channeled an elegant gentleman – or at times gentleman farmer – off duty, albeit interpreted through an urban lens, with a palette of mineral colors. With straw hats, fedoras and leather espadrilles among the accessories, Armani focused on his signature super-soft constructions, from gaucho-style oversized pants worn with stitched leather waistcoats over long-sleeved T-shirts to suede safari jackets, printed silk pajamas with digitalized ikat-style prints and those double-breasted jackets, most with peak lapels and all in the relaxed silhouette the designer made iconic.
A look combining crisp cotton pants worn with suspenders and patterned knitwear was another pure Eighties Armani moment, but felt timeless.
Even the unconstructed double-breasted linen suits

Emporio Armani to Host Coed Runway Show in September

MILAN — Emporio Armani is the latest Italian brand to opt for a coed show.
As Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana president Carlo Capasa revealed during a press conference on Thursday presenting the schedule of the upcoming Milan Men’s Fashion Week, the fashion label will skip its traditional men’s fashion show in June to host a coed runway show in September during the city’s Women’s Fashion Week. The coed show won’t take place at Giorgio Armani’s theater on Via Bergognone, as per tradition, but in a still-undisclosed location. That said, the signature Giorgio Armani men’s show will be held on June 18 at the theater.
Separately, Furla said on Thursday it will also stage a coed presentation in September.
While Emporio Armani joins the likes of Gucci and Bottega Veneta, for example, Capasa announced new entries in the June calendar including London-based Besfxxk and Italian label Vìen. Korean fashion house Spyder, French brand Ih Nom Uh Nit and Italian fashion houses Doucal’s and Triple RRR, the line designed by Roberto Cavalli’s son Robert. Diesel Black Gold will not hold a show, but will present its spring collection to retailers, while the second Diesel Red Tag capsule collection will be unveiled on the catwalk. As reported, according to market sources, Diesel founder Renzo Rosso

Giorgio Armani Takes a Jab at Gucci

HEAD OVER HEELS: Giorgio Armani has long lamented how some of his peers parade unwearable looks on the runway to draw the attention, turning fashion into a circus. So no surprise the designer would take a jab at Alessandro Michele’s models carrying their pretend heads at Gucci.

Details at Gucci RTW Fall 2018

Without naming the brand or Michele, Armani said he was “perplexed” by that choice and such antics. “No, I don’t want to be a part of this. Fashion can’t be a means to have the media talk about you. We have to move and excite but without going overboard — it’s too easy. I have never wanted to trick consumers, and what I show on the runway is what customers can find in stores,” Armani said on the sidelines of the unveiling of a short movie he produced for his Laboratorio workshop.

Emporio Armani Pre-Fall 2018

Sporty accents injected a dynamic vibe into the Emporio Armani pre-fall collection.
The brand developed a versatile city wardrobe featuring the label’s signature combination of masculine and feminine details.
Effortless chic suits, including one in a wool fabric with a denim-like appearance, were cut with elongated blazers and generous pleated pants. More fitted and cropped jackets were worked in multicolor jacquards inspired by digital graphic art, while the Emporio Armani eagle logo was splashed on a casual quilted bomber matched with dark indigo boyfriend jeans.
An athletic feel was injected in a pair of boxing-inspired shorts worn with a jersey parka. A casual padded hooded jacket paired with matching wide-leg pants was crafted from a printed shiny fabric with a vinyl effect.
Quintessential feminine looks included a sequined mini frock with a polka dot tulle insert and a silk dress with an inlaid belt exuding Eighties’ sensuality.

Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall 2018

“Seductive sobriety” was the expression which Giorgio Armani used to describe his pre-fall collection.
In a way, this season, Armani, who was born outside Milan in Piacenza, went back to his roots and he recalled that thick fog which used to surround the city during the long winters of his youth.
The designer translated his memories into the collection through the use of soft tones and plush fabrics wrapping the body with warm coziness.
Different tones of gray defined a range of pieces, including a little jacket worked in an Art Deco-inspired chevron motif and embellished with printed leather lapels punctuated by hand-painted maxi buttons. A lighter gray hue gave a chic attitude to a collarless coat worn over silk Bermuda pants and a chevron top, while gray was combined with pink, white and black on a leather blazer splashed with an abstract interpretation of a floral pattern.
Flowers, recalling Henri Matisse’s paintings, also peppered a silk romper trimmed with Kidassia fur, which was layered under a maxi Mongolian fur coat.
A more sporty and casual attitude informed another group of pieces, such as a graphic chevron bomber showing an asymmetric zipper, a jersey sweatshirt embroidered with the Giorgio Armani logo, as well as an oversize

Giorgio Armani Cashes in on 80-Million-Euro Dividend

SWEET DIVIDEND: According to Forbes, Giorgio Armani ranks number 215 on the 2017 list of billionaires and his net worth as of Sept. 8 stands at $ 8.3 billion. While the Italian designer has decided to channel his fashion group’s profits from 2016 back into the company as a financial provision, as he had the previous year, Armani, who controls and is also the chairman of his namesake company, in October issued an extraordinary dividend of 80 million euros.
His group can afford it. As reported in July, Giorgio Armani SpA relies on a cash pile of 881 million euros, up 35 percent compared with 654 million euros at the end of 2015. The group’s annual report, deposited at the Italian Chamber of Commerce, also states that the company in December sold 200,000 shares in Italy’s eyewear firm Luxottica SpA, with a capital gain of 7.2 million euros. Luxottica is Armani’s longtime eyewear licensee.
The report shows that, in February, 9,500 company shares, or 0.1 percent of capital, were transferred from the designer into the new partner Fondazione Giorgio Armani. Last year marked the first time the designer — who turned 84 on July 11 — revealed details about the future of his

Giorgio Armani Privé Couture Fall 2017

The arrival of a pristine white card featuring an embossed putto, apparently taken from an architectural relief, got you wondering about the theme of Giorgio Armani’s Armani Privé show. Old World grandeur? Whimsical romance?
As it turned out, the image heralded not the show’s theme, “Mystery,” but Milan’s Palazzo Orsini, now owned by Armani and the site of his atelier. After years of a minimalist approach to his venue, for fall, Armani decided to up his ante in the set stakes, installing inside the Théâtre National de Chaillot imagery derived from the palazzo’s interiors: in the reception area, large photographs of murals and, lining the walls of the runway space, a mini replica of a lavishly paneled room. It made for a lovely setting, made lovelier still by American-level air-conditioning and seating with ample rear-end room.
By transplanting to Paris the trappings of his Milanese base, Armani seemed to telegraph that this would be a deeply personal collection, no less than if he’d played “I Gotta Be Me” on his soundtrack. Yet while all of the signatures were there — the specific tailoring, the fabric mixes, the wacky hats — Armani stuck a pin in Privé’s typical grande dame attitude, letting some

Front Row at Giorgio Armani Privé Fall 2017

THE LATE SHOW: For front-row celebs, it’s a Catch-22: Get in early and face a barrage of photographers and reporters, or get chastised for being late, like Isabelle Huppert who was booed by photographers as she was spirited to her seat at Armani Privé after the show had begun. She blamed traffic, mouthing her excuse to a nearby publicist.

Having arrived with time to spare, Kate Winslet barely got a word in edgewise, managing to say “effortless” and “chic” before more questions were shouted at her in a hail of camera flashes. She looked relieved when she slipped behind a human chain of security guards.
Sitting next to a white-clad Sophia Loren, Naomi Watts looked more relaxed, wearing a similarly pristine outfit. She had arrived earlier in the day, fresh off the promotion of “Gypsy,” the Netflix drama in which she stars as a psychotherapist who inserts herself into the lives of her clients. After the show, she was heading back to the Eurostar but with good reason. “My holiday starts tomorrow, and you’re the first to know I’m going to Kenya,” the English actress said in a conspiratorial tone.

Messi is rated as one of the best soccer players in the history of this sport.
Messi and Roccuzzo’s children Thiago and Mateo also wore three-piece suits from the Armani Junior line created expressly for them.
Singer Shakira and her husband Gerard Piqué, and fellow soccer champs Samuel Eto’o, Neymar Jr., and Dani Alves were among the reportedly 260 guests at the ceremony.

Giorgio Armani Men’s Spring 2018

There were no show notes, just one line projected onto the screen above the runway: Made in Armani.
The phrase captured the spirit of the collection, which was signature Giorgio, with a subdued color palette – 50 shades of light gray – and many of the designer’s greatest hits. Carrot trousers, curve-hugging tailored jackets, languid work wear styles, and Far Eastern-inspired silhouettes all took a turn on the runway.
GALLERY: Backstage at Giorgio Armani Men’s Spring 2018
In a season when some of Milan’s biggest names in men’s wear either didn’t take part to opt for co-ed shows in September, or lost their rhythm and wobbled, Armani stuck to what he knows best – and sent it down the runway over and over again. The show opened with a long and elegant feather light coat in watery gray, and ended with a chic lineup of all-white suits, some of them in seersucker, others with two buttons or three buttons, shawl collars or narrow peaked lapels.
In between there was much texture and surface interest – a crinkly coppery fabric for a bomber jacket; shiny gray-white tailored jackets with subtle plaid patterns; a loose jacket with patch pockets and tailored tracksuit bottoms (no sloppy street

Giorgio Armani Offers Theater to Munsoo Kwon

SHOWTIME: In his ongoing support of young designers, Giorgio Armani will lend his Teatro space to Korean designer Munsoo Kwon.
Kwon’s spring-summer 2018 collection will be presented during Milan Men’s Fashion Week, on June 18. The week kicks off on June 16 with the Ermenegildo Zegna show and ends June 19. Armani’s own show is on the last day, followed by Fendi.
“This season, I continue to support some of the most promising fashion designers on the international scene, keeping a global view of creative talent,” said Armani. “I hope my encouragement and support will bode well for his career.”
Kwon, who trained at American design schools, is the ninth designer to show at Armani’s theater, following Andrea Pompilio, Vivetta and Au Jour le Jour, to name a few. The latest was Chinese designer Xuzhi Chen in February.
“I’m more than thankful to be granted with a chance to make [my] dream come true by Mr. Giorgio Armani,” said Kwon, who will show his 10th collection.
In line with this project, as reported, Armani is launching a design competition called New Bond. Ahead of his first Emporio Armani show in London in September, the Italian designer will work with the British Fashion Council and fashion students in

Giorgio Armani Designs Costumes for ‘The Dinner’

Giorgio Armani has designed the costumes for the Richard Gere’s character interpreted in Oren Moverman‘s new movie, “The Dinner,” hitting theaters on May 5.
Armani teamed with the film’s costume designer Catherine George to create a full wardrobe, including a range of casual outfits, along with a navy suit, a cashmere turtleneck sweater, a coat and several shirts and ties. In the thriller, Gere plays an American politician who tries to be elected governor. Laura Linney, Steve Coogan, Rebecca Hall and Chloe Sevigny are also part of the cast.

“It was a  pleasure to collaborate with Oren Moverman and Catherine George. Catherine totally  understands the philosophy behind my aesthetic, which is perfect for Richard Gere, a longtime friend of mine,” Armani said. “Being passionate about the movie industry, it’s an honor for me to contribute to the making of a film.”
“During the fittings in front of the camera we immediately saw that attitude and self consciousness that Richard showed wearing the coat over the suit and walking in front of the director,” George said. “The cashmere coat looks as luxurious as its results when you touch it. Giorgio Armani Ceases Collezioni, Jeans Labels

MILAN — Giorgio Armani said he plans to consolidate his various collections under three labels, as the fashion company undergoes an internal restructuring.
“There will only be three lines: Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and A|X Armani Exchange starting with the fall-winter 2018 season,” the designer said backstage following his Emporio Armani show.
Armani Collezioni and Armani Jeans will be blended into those main three lines.
“There was too much confusion with so many collections,” said the designer. “Times have changed and we have to evolve.”

Emporio Armani RTW Fall 2017

There was a lot going on in this Emporio Armani collection – and yet there were opportunities missed.
Giorgio Armani said his aim was to “turn a page,” and design a wardrobe for the modern woman that’s distinctive, of the moment – something people will look back on and say: “That was the look of 2017.” He believes there is no defining fashion of today – and that what people wear is “too reminiscent of past decades.”
In an effort to move that conversation forward, Armani showed off a wide-ranging collection that was full of long lines – especially sweeping black skirts, some with hoops in their hems or snaking white embroidery, and less formal ones layered under slouchy branded sweaters.
There were plastic pieces aplenty; long skirts with big slits up the side, and transparent tailored jackets and trousers, while splashes of vibrant color – pink, red and green – appeared in Matisse-like cutout patterns, or florals, on dark jackets.
An endless black-and-white checkerboard pattern popped on furs, floppy coats and trousers, while busy florals blossomed over skirts and tops. Then came the layering: Leathery or brightly patterned trousers were worn under lace tunic tops and short jackets with colored piping.
High points included little black or red

Beatrice Borromeo, Royal Twins wear Armani on Monaco’s National Day

FIT FOR PRINCES: Giorgio Armani can list two more royals to his already impressive list of high-profile celebrities wearing his designs. On Monaco’s National Day celebrated in Montecarlo on Saturday, also known as The Sovereign Prince’s Day, twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella wore Armani Junior looks. The offspring of Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques wore a milky white single-breasted cashmere jacket with appliquéd pockets and gold satin buttons, a classic popelin shirt and light wool pants in the same color, while Princess Gabriella donned a satin dress with a bodice and skirt in multi-layered  tulle, completed by a satin sash tied at the waist with a bow, a wool shrug and a coordinated cashmere coat with gold satin buttons.
A visibly pregnant Beatrice Borromeo, who is married to Pierre Casiraghi, wore a Giorgio Armani Privé dress in crêpe cady and a roomy cashmere coat in a thea rose hue.
In August 2015,  Borromeo wore Armani Privé for her religious wedding at Isolino di San Giovanni, on Italy’s Lake Maggiore.
Casiraghi is the son of the late Italian entrepreneur Stefano Casiraghi and Princess Caroline of Hanover, daughter of the late Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. Borromeo, a former model and

New Book on Giorgio Armani Hits Bookstore

MILAN — “I haven’t got any complaint yet, so it may all be OK,” said Italian journalist Giusi Ferre’ at the presentation of the book she wrote on Giorgio Armani, referring to the designer’s reaction.
Published by Marsilio, the book features a provocative, unexpected title: “The radical sex,” and hits stores today [Nov. 26].
“I really wanted to use the word sex but I wanted to define it,” explained Ferre’. “Through his fashion, Armani communicated a precise sexuality, controlled but strong at the same time. And it’s radical because he put the accent on a liquid convergence of the two genders.”
The journalist better clarifies this idea in the preface of the book, where she draws the cultural scenario which served as backdrop for Armani’s revolutionary approach to men’s and women’s fashion.
“It was Giorgio Armani’s fashion to express, almost unwittingly, the idea of gender when between the Seventies and the Eighties gender studies were starting to flourish. These were taking the steps from a wave of the feminist movement and were finding ideas in the analysis of both the post-structuralism and French deconstructionism, especially Michael Foucalt and Jacques Derrida,” Ferré writes in the preface.
The book, which is the first of a new fashion-focused series

Giorgio Armani: No Successor ‘On the Horizon’

MILAN — As a young man, Giorgio Armani saw a shirt —  in a gingham print — in a movie that caught his fancy. He went hunting for it in several shops, and could not find it. Sales clerks asked him incredulously: “But checks are for tablecloths in trattorias. Why would you want to look like a tablecloth?”
It was at that moment that Armani realized he could do something in fashion.
The designer recounted that story at a press conference Monday to introduce his Rizzoli tome, “Giorgio Armani,” released as part of his 40th anniversary festivities. With Sophia Loren, Lapo Elkann, Robert Wilson and the international press before him, Armani was asked if, given his age of 81, he had identified the designer who would succeed him.
The designer replied that his “ego forced him to say there will never be anyone else like Giorgio Armani,” prompting a round of applause and a few cheers from the audience. Then he added that he did not see anyone in particular “on the horizon,” while acknowledging that “there is a movement [of designers] that have the will to be avant-garde.”
Asked if he considered himself a revolutionary in fashion, Armani enumerated three of his inventions

Beatrice Borromeo Wears Armani Privé for Religious Wedding

A week after their civil wedding, Beatrice Borromeo and Pierre Casiraghi took their religious vows August 1. This time, Borromeo chose to wear a custom Giorgio Armani Privé gown. The flared ivory dress with Chantilly lace and layers of silk chiffon was paired with a delicate silk tulle veil, also with a Chantilly lace border. The wedding took place at Isolino di San Giovanni, one of the islands owned by the Borromeo family on Italy’s Lake Maggiore.
For the reception, the bride wore another custom Privé gown in white silk tulle with micro draping, a deep neckline and a train in pleated silk tulle that started at the shoulders. Two family heirloom antique diamond wing brooches were pinned on the train.
Armani also made white silk shirts and Bermuda shorts for the ring bearers, as well as the bridesmaids’ dresses and shrugs in pink and white.
The bride’s mother, Paola Marzotto, grandmother Marta Marzotto and sisters Lavinia, Matilde and Isabella also wore custom Privé dresses.
As reported, Borromeo wore a pale pink Valentino Haute Couture cape dress to marry her longtime beau Casiraghi on July 25 in a civil ceremony at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco.
Casiraghi is the son of the late Italian entrepreneur Stefano Casiraghi and Princess Caroline of
