Asos Streamlines, Updates the Future

The Asos men’s wear presentation Monday night at Hotel Hugo was a legit scene. A surly lobby attendant seemed to derive more pleasure from confiscating guests’ drinks than a TSA agent. “Finish it or get rid of it,” he barked at an editor waiting on line for the cramped elevator. Anyone who failed for whatever reason to get their hand stamped was assumed to be sneaking into the venue by this deputy-in-training. “Nobody gets in without a stamp,” he said. “You gotta go back.”
When the elevator opened onto Bar Hugo, a copper-accented room with a view on the lower level of a bi-floor roof concept, the crowd was pulsing, aided by the freely flowing libations. A narrow staircase led to Azul on the actual rooftop, where tribes of enthusiasts of the brand were engaged in a more raucous dance.
Ten men wearing designs representing Asos’ spring 2019 collection, called “The Future Is Now,” stood or sat on a makeshift platform, the new-age fabrics of their garments shimmering in the sun against the silver towers of the New York skyline, which created a beautiful and serene backdrop for the rooftop event and a counterpoint to the frenetic scene at the bar.

Asos Is Serious About Growing in the U.S.

British online retailer Asos on Monday held its inaugural New York presentation for the brand’s fall 2018 men’s wear collection with an eye toward growing its U.S. business, which head of men’s Nick Eley said is in second place, behind the U.K.
The e-tailer has ratcheted up its presence during New York Fashion Week: Men’s since July, when it held a party.
Primarily aimed at young adults — Eley said the average age is 20 — Asos sells more than 850 brands and its own range of clothing and accessories. The brand is making a push, offering plus sizes for men, which Eley called a “huge opportunity.”
In addition, Eley said the men’s and women’s sides of the business have started collaborating for the first time on trends, fabrics and more, the results of which will be fully realized with the spring 2019 collection.

The brand features an abundance of over-the-top fashion and glam items. After all, Asos was originally called As Seen on Screen when it launched in 1999, before its name was shortened to an acronym. “The Asos guy is going out more and is more confident with what he’s wearing,” said Eley.
The presentation was held at 393 NYC, a long, narrow gallerylike space

Asos Introduces Big and Tall Lines for Men

Asos is expanding its men’s size assortment.
The U.K.-based e-commerce retailer will now offer extended sizes for men, ranging from XXXL to XXXXXL, and tall products that have more length in the body and sleeves to accommodate customers who are 6 feet, 3 inches and up.
Asos will produce its own private label pieces in big and tall sizes and will offer up to 20 brands, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Noose & Monkey, Wrangler and Burton, that also manufacture larger sized items for men.
Nick Eley, head of men’s wear design at Asos, said that similar to its women’s plus-size and tall categories, which he said have been very successful for the company, the men’s pieces will be on-trend and no different from the core, popular pieces in the main range.
“We wanted the customer to have fashionable product to choose from,” said Eley.
So far, Eley said the largest sizes in the big and tall category are selling, meaning there’s room for the range of sizes to grow. But challenges have sprouted up. For example, Eley said there is a lack of men’s brands producing trendy items in plus sizes. Eley said it’s also hard to find models to wear these pieces since many agencies don’t have

Princess Victoria Looked Amazing in an Under-$100 ASOS Dress

A pregnant Princess Victoria just reminded us that sometimes stellar style needn’t cost much at all. The royal just stepped out in Peru wearing a star print dress from ASOS that costs $ 99 (and is still available to shop!). The maternity style is perfect for expectant moms thanks to the cinch empire waist, ideal for positioning wherever an individual bump requires. Don’t forget Kate Middleton mined the budget-friendly retailer too, rocking this polka dot maternity style when pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

The dress currently for sale on the ASOS site is a maxi, whereas Victoria is clearly in a shorter version. It’s possible that her style has sold out or is not yet available yet, but more likely she’s pulling the Kate Middleton-beloved royal switcheroo trick, altering an off-the-rack piece to make it fit for a specific occasion.

Solange Embodies All That Is Spring And Summer On ASOS Cover, Obvi (PHOTOS)

And she does it again!

Bright colors and bare shoulders light up Solange Knowles’ newest cover spread. ASOS — the UK based e-commerce beauty and fashion website– scored the afrolicious, print-perfect music stunner for the June 2014 issue of its magazine.

The light she emits from the glossy pages of the New Orleans shoot is every bit an example of her flawless taste and grace as you would hope it to be. And despite making music, playing festivals, designing, and mothering her 9-year-old son, Knowles doesn’t seem like she’ll run out of steam anytime soon.

Solange insists that she has nothing to complain about in the face of being little sister to the one-and-only Beyoncé — whose passionate work ethic impresses the pants off the 27-year-old. “I have never seen anything like it in my life, from anyone. It’s absolutely insane. Now that she’s become a mother, and the way that she’s able to balance that is so inspiring, If I am ever feeling like I want to open up my mouth and complain about how hard I am working, I think, ‘Uhhh! Sit down!’”

The “Losing You” singer also tells ASOS about what personal style surprises we can expect from her in the future. “I might be having a little evolution in my style…it’s been a lot more subtle. I had a bit of print fatigue, it’s been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember. But you want to evolve and experiment – that’s part of the fun and the joy of being a woman.”

Prints or not, summer has never looked so good!

To see Solange gush over her career and living in New Orleans visit ASOS’ site, where you can watch the interview or download the issue to your phone or tablet.
