Halo Infinite was announced at E3 2018 and will use the new Slipspace Engine created by the studio. 343 Industries said they heard “loud and clear” that players weren’t happy with how little time they could play as Master Chief in Halo 5, so Infinite will focus on his story, picking up after Guardians.

British Toddler at Center of Legal Battle Dies After Being Taken Off Life Support: ‘Heartbroken’

Alfie Evans, the 23-month-old terminally ill British boy at the center of a headline-making legal battle, has died just five days after he was taken off life support, his parents announced.

“Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30 am,” wrote his mother Kate James, 20, on Facebook early Saturday. “We are heartbroken. Thank you everyone for all your support 💙

His father, 21-year-old Thomas Evans, also wrote on Facebook, “My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings at 02:30 😥😢😥😢😥 absolutely heartbroken💔😭 I LOVE YOU MY GUY💙💙💙👨‍👦👨‍👦.”

Alfie initially survived in the days after medical staff at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital cut off his life assistance, Evans said. Alfie continued to live despite being in a “semi-vegetative state” as a result of a mystery degenerative neurological condition, surprising doctors who said further attempts to treat the boy would be futile, according to the BBC. Alfie initially survived on his own for six hours on Monday before doctors provided the child with oxygen and hydration.

“We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Alfie’s family at this extremely distressing time,” Alder Hey Children’s Hospital said in a statement. “All of us feel deeply for Alfie, Kate, Tom and his whole family and our thoughts are with them. This has been a devastating journey for them and we would ask that their privacy and the privacy of staff at Alder Hey is respected.”

RELATED: What to Know About Alfie Evans, the British Toddler Taken Off Life Support After Legal Battle

The hospital also announced a makeshift memorial for the boy.

“We feel sure people will wish to place tributes to Alfie along with messages of support for Kate and Tom,” Alder Hey Hospital said. “To ensure there is sufficient space for these and to ensure the safety of all those who wish to visit, we have secured a suitable place in Springfield Park situated next to Alder Hey Hospital. This is on the advice of Merseyside Police.”

Evans and James have been in a lengthy battle to keep the ailing toddler on life support. Alfie has been at the hospital since December 2016.

However, a series of court rulings sided with doctors who said there was no hope for the boy, according to the Washington Post. The BBC reported that doctors argued that keeping Alfie on a ventilator would be “futile,” “unkind and inhumane.” Most recently, the European Court of Human Rights rejected the parents’ request to keep doctors at the Liverpool hospital from taking Alfie off of the assistance.

“I faught (sic) hard in court for my son because I know what’s right!!” the grieving father wrote in a Facebook post after the court’s decision. “And look where we are now my son is still ALIVE AFTER OVER 10 horrendous scary heartbreaking hours.”

The human rights court’s decision upheld that of Britain’s Supreme Court, in which justices said it would be pointless to take Alfie to Rome for treatment.

Still, the head of the Vatican’s Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital said the Italian defense ministry had a plane ready and waiting to take Alfie to Italy for treatment if the additional Tuesday hearing grants the family’s appeal, according to the Associated Press.

On Monday, Pope Francis even voiced his support for Alfie.

RELATED: Charlie Gard, Terminally Ill British Baby at Center of Legal Battle, Dies: ‘Our Beautiful Little Boy Has Gone’

“Moved by the prayers and immense solidarity shown little Alfie Evans, I renew my appeal that the suffering of his parents may be heard and that their desire to seek new forms of treatment may be granted,” the Pope tweeted.

RELATED VIDEO: Charlie Gard, Terminally Ill British Baby at Center of Legal Battle, Dies

In a fundraiser for Alfie, the family wrote that he was born “healthy and on time” in May 2016. However, the parents soon noticed Alfie was not accomplishing common milestones like lifting his head, maintaining eye contact and eating with his hands, according to the Just Giving fundraising page. Doctors initially believed the boy was simply a “late developer,” but became concerned when he began experiencing spasms and developed an infection.

The situation is similar to that of another London couple, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, whose son, Charlie, died in July after a lengthy court battle to treat the terminally ill 11-month-old baby. Earlier this year, Takesha Thomas and Lanre Haastrup lost their son, Isaiah, after a judge ruled that doctors could stop providing intensive care treatment to the boy who suffered brain damage.

RHONY Star Jill Zarin’s Husband Bobby Dies After Battle with Cancer

Jill Zarin‘s husband Bobby has died from cancer.

Jill announced the news in a family statement on her official website, revealing that Bobby died on Saturday surrounded by his family.

“With the heaviest of hearts, we are devastated to share the news that our beloved Bobby Zarin passed away peacefully today surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer,” the family said in a statement. “There are no words to describe how heartbroken we are. Thank you, everyone for all your love, and support during this difficult time.”

His stepdaughter Aly Shapiro remembered him in a touching Instagram post also on Saturday, sharing a gallery of photos of the two over the years.

“We ❤ Bobby…” she wrote. “Thank you for giving me such a wonderful family and being the most incredible step-Dad anyone could ever ask for. I don’t remember a time without you, and you will not be forgotten. Every shot of patron, every time we listen to Hotel California, every vroom of a Ferrari you will be right there with us. You fought with dignity and courage, surrounded by all of us with love and respect till the very end. You can rest In peace now, we love you so much.”

She also provided service details, which will be held Monday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. at Riverside Memorial in New York City.

Bobby was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2009 and went on to have his thyroid removed as well as underwent radioactive iodine treatment.

“The radioactive iodine usually kills off whatever undetectable cancer cells are left in your body after surgery,” he previously told PEOPLE. “We thought it was cured – and it usually is in about 93 percent of cases. But I wasn’t able to absorb the radioactive iodine. So it came back.”

The cancer wound up returning and spread to his lungs. In Fall 2016, Jill revealed to PEOPLE that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Although the Real Housewives of New York City alum remained hopeful throughout Bobby’s treatment, she said “his cancer took an unexpected turn” over the summer. In July, Bobby was admitted to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he recovered from a procedure.

“He is not going down without a fight,” Jill told PEOPLE exclusively. “We’re hoping for a miracle,” she said about the love of her life.

RELATED VIDEO: Jill Zarin’s Husband Bobby Hospitalized with Cancer Complications

After he was admitted to the hospital in July, Jill hadn’t left his side and did everything she could to make him comfortable.

“I’m in shock,” she said. “I’m in physical shock. I’ve lost 8 lbs. already. He was doing well for a very, very long time. Then the cancer came back in his brain last fall and since then, it’s been one thing after another.”

As Bobby’s treatment continued, Jill remained dedicated to raising money for thyroid cancer research for him and others who have the deadly disease through her Annual Luxury Luncheon, which was opened to the public for the first time last year.

Last January, the couple celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary. “Happy 16th wedding Anniversary to the most wonderful husband, father and friend in the world. I love you with all my ❤❤❤ we will get thru this and be together forever,” Jill wrote about her husband.

And in celebration of his birthday last February, Jill posted multiple photos of Bobby on Instagram with loving captions. “I’m so happy and at peace these days with the love of my life living La Vida Boca!” she wrote.

“He is the most loving and caring person I have ever known besides my father. Sometimes life just isn’t fair,” she previously told PEOPLE about Bobby. “But we have such a great love story. He is the love of my life and I will do everything in my power to heal and care for him.”

Bobby ran Zarin Fabrics, which was opened by his father, Harry Zarin, in 1936. The New York native is survived by Jill, his three children — Jonathan, David and Jennifer Zarin — and stepdaughter, Ally.

Selena Gomez Opens Up About Battle with Lupus and Feeling ‘Guilty’ About Her Fame

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Selena Gomez is looking at her battle with lupus and resulting kidney transplant as a “beautiful thing.”

In part two of her interview on Today with friend and kidney donor Francia Raisa, the 25-year-old singer said she doesn’t want anyone to feel bad for her.

“I don’t want people to think it’s a sad thing that I went through this with Francia or with anything in my life,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “Because at the end of the day, I think all the stuff that I went to made me and defined everything that I am right now. I think it’s a really beautiful thing, and I have to remind myself that it’s not a negative experience.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Gomez said that she often pushed herself too hard despite her diagnosis in 2015.

“I don’t think I made the right decisions, because I didn’t accept it. It was extremely selfish and at the same time really, really just unnecessary,” she said. “I’m not really proud of that.”

When Guthrie suggested Gomez was being hard on herself, the former Disney Channel star replied, “That would be easier if I just accepted it, but I am definitely the hardest person on myself, for sure.”

Gomez took some time off last year to deal with anxiety, panic attacks and depression triggered by the autoimmune disease that affected her entire body from arthritis to low energy.

“I went away to a facility. I took some time off. I needed to get my mind right, be healthy,” she said. “I removed myself from everyone in my life.”

“We went six months without speaking,” Raisa, 29, said. “It was a huge lesson of friendship for me, and trust. Because it’s easy to feel offended or want to be there. It’s just, they need to go through their own thing.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

“I don’t think I ever accepted the position I had,” Gomez said. “It was me almost feeling guilty about fame, because people could see anyone in my position and say, ‘Wow, they’ve got it all figured out. They’ve got everything. They get to live this cool life.’”

However, the “Wolves” singer explained a lot of pressure comes with being in the spotlight.

“You’re isolated. You’re being looked at. You’re being judged. I’m always trying to be nice,” she said. “I want to be great. That’s genuinely who I am, deep down. But it just seemed pointless.”

RELATED VIDEO: Selena Gomez & Friend Francia Raisa Open Up About 2nd Emergency Surgery After Life-Saving Kidney Transplant

Last month PEOPLE spoke with a doctor who specializes in transplants for people with immune diseases including lupus, Robert Montgomery, MD, director of the Transplant Institute at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Montgomery told PEOPLE that it’s common for lupus to damage kidneys to the point where one or both need to be replaced. “Not every patient who gets lupus ends up with kidney failure, but some do,” he said.

When lupus patients need organ donations they are often added to a waiting list to be matched with a deceased donor, and they may have to go on dialysis for kidney failure while they wait months or even years. In Gomez’s case, she had Raisa to serve as her live donor, which Dr. Montgomery said is a “great advantage” because “live donor transplants last twice as long, on average, as deceased donor kidneys.”

Raisa said the experience brought them even closer. “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process,” she said.

Olivia Newton-John’s Cancer Diagnosis: Health Experts Weigh In on Her Battle Ahead

Olivia Newton-John is battling breast cancer again, 25 years after her first diagnosis in 1992, and oncologists are weighing in on her long — but treatable — journey ahead.

“It’s a very long time from her primary and that usually means that it’s very treatable, and you can put it into long term remission,” explains Carolyn Runowicz, an oncologist and associate dean at the Herbert Wertheirm College of Medicine at Florida International University, who is not treating Newton-John. “It’s never good news to have a recurrent tumor — that’s devastating to the patient. But the further out you are from your initial diagnosis, the better the prognosis.”

Doctors have diagnosed the star, 68, with breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum (a bone in the lower back), according to a statement the singer posted on Facebook. She has also put her U.S. and Canadian concert tour on hold after initially postponing two weeks ago because of severe back pain from what she thought was sciatica.

“We’re lucky that there’s new drugs being developed and new treatments over time that make a difference, but this is something that 10 years of her life will be about trying to control this,” says Laura Esserman, director of the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center. “Part of anybody’s treatment should be about how you can handle every day in spite of the situation you find yourself in.”

Metastasis is the development of secondary malignant growths from a primary site of cancer, and the sacrum, where Newton-John is affected, is situated between the two hipbones of the pelvis.

“Bone metastatic disease is the most common type of metastatic disease from breast cancer,” explains Raquel Prati, a breast surgeon at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. “When it goes to the bone only, she may not need very aggressive treatment.”

According to Prati, metastatic to the bone tends to behave better than in other areas that breast cancer can affect, such as the liver or the brain.

Along with natural wellness therapies, the entertainer will be treated with a “short course of photon radiation therapy,” according to the statement.

Sheri Marquez, a radiation oncologist and medical director at the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Center in California, notes that Newton-John’s diagnosis “is not considered curable, but considered treatable” and breaks down what her type of radiation treatment typically entails.

“We use higher energy x-rays to kill cancer cells, basically,” Marquez says. “When you get radiation therapy, the x-ray is stronger, and it’s focused treatment so we can shape where the radiation goes.”

As Marquez explains, radiation therapy is planned for the area that needs to be treated, so the side effects of treatment will relate only to what’s treated.

“When we’re treating the pelvis, and the rest of the body is being protected, she won’t lose the hair on her head,” Marquez says. “She may get nausea, vomiting or diarrhea from irritation in those treatment areas.”

Since bone marrow would be the target in this case, there’s a chance that white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet count could be affected. With that, there’s a higher risk of infection, bleeding, and fatigue.

With a short course of treatment, Marquez says that over 90 percent of patients will report some benefits and eventually over 50 percent will have complete resolution of their pain.

“We try very hard with the treatment to spare what we don’t need to treat so patients can get back to their lives,” Marquez says.

In 2013, Newton-John lost her beloved sister Rona to brain cancer shortly after her diagnosis. Whether her family history will come into play now, Prati says, “Brain cancer tends not to be related to breast cancer, but it depends on how much more family history she might have.”

“All cancers are genetic, but all cancers are not inherited,” adds Runowicz. “So you have to take a very careful history.”

Chrissy Teigen And John Legend ‘Spider-Man Kiss’ During Epic ‘Lip Sync Battle’ Moment

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” stars Zendaya and Tom Holland battled it out on Sunday night’s “Lip Sync Battle,” but it was Chrissy Teigen who walked away the real winner.

Following Holland’s final performance, the show’s co-host, clad in a Spider-Man suit, descended from the ceiling. As LL Cool J took off her mask, Teigen admitted that she wanted to “live out my biggest fantasy.”

Then, to the crowd’s surprise, her husband John Legend walked out and gave her an epic upside-down kiss ― just like the one Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire share in 2002’s “Spider-Man.”

It was a moment, and the MTV Movie & TV Awards just couldn’t live up to it.

More Chrissy and John, always, please.

The 100: Who Will Survive the Battle to the Death?

The situation on The 100 has grown more dire than ever, as a meltdown of all of the Earth’s remaining nuclear power plants threaten to kill everyone still alive. Last week, we saw that desperate times called for desperate measures yet again, as it was decided that a new Conclave would be held, in which a Champion from each clan would battle to the death, until only one remained – with the winner’s people being the ones who get to survive in the bunker that’s recently been discovered, which can save a limited number.

IGN has an exclusive clip for you from the next episode, “Die All, Die Merrily,” as Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) prepares to fight for Skaikru, joining Roan (Zach McGowan) from Azgeda and a couple other participants she didn’t expect to see… including one who no one expected to join this fight.

‘The Last Ship’ Halts Production Amid Eric Dane’s Battle With Depression

“The Last Ship” has halted production so lead actor Eric Dane can treat his depression, People reports.

“Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues,” Dane’s rep said in a statement to outlets. “He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request.”

Variety, citing an “insider,” noted that shooting for this summer’s fourth season has already wrapped ― but the hiatus is delaying production of the fifth season. The two seasons were being filmed back-to-back.

“He looks forward to returning,” the rep added, per Variety.

In the popular TNT series, Dane stars as the captain of a naval destroyer on a mission to save the world after a a global pandemic.

The 44-year-old actor, who previously starred on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has publicly dealt with personal issues before. He entered rehab for a painkiller addiction in 2011. Earlier, he weathered a scandal over a nude tape, in which he and wife Rebecca Gayheart appeared with another woman.

Val Kilmer Acknowledges Cancer Battle For First Time

Speculation surrounding Val Kilmer’s health has been circulating for about two years now, but the actor has mostly been quiet about the subject.

During a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything session, however, Kilmer addressed his health, admitting he had “a healing of cancer.”

A fan asked Kilmer about Michael Douglas’ 2016 comments that suggested the “Top Gun” star was battling cancer. At the time, Kilmer said Douglas was “misinformed.”

“What was the story behind that?” the Reddit user wrote.

“He was probably trying to help me cause press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer, but my tongue is still swollen altho healing all the time,” Kilmer answered. “Because I don’t sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather.”

Prior to this AMA, Kilmer had not publicly admitted he had cancer, though last November he was reportedly having trouble speaking while at an event promoting his one-man play “Citizen Twain.” During that event, he reportedly told the crowd his tongue was swollen and he was “still recovering,” but did not say from what.

Rumors about his health first surfaced in January 2015, when it was reported Kilmer had been hospitalized for bleeding from his throat. Outlets reported he underwent surgery for a throat tumor.

The actor continually denied any illness or surgery, though was spotted later that year with what appeared to be a tracheostomy tube around his neck. After that, he began covering his neck with scarves or bandanas while out in public, but still did not address his illness.

Why Star Wars Rebels Won’t End with Rogue One’s Battle of Scarif

While we know at least a couple of Star Wars Rebels characters were present for the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Rebels co-creator Dave Filoni cautions that we shouldn’t expect to see the animated series tackle a re-telling of the events of that film from a different perspective in the final season.

An exciting inclusion in Rogue One for fans was seeing elements from Star Wars Rebels make it into the film. Chopper makes an onscreen appearance, while a page for “General Syndulla” lets us know that Hera is on the Rebel base on Yavin right before the Battle of Scarif – and we then see the Rebels ship, the Ghost, take part in that battle.

Amid Health Care Battle, Trump Takes Moment To Attack Snoop Dogg

Between 6:55 a.m and 8:14 a.m ET on Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump sent out five tweets.

Four of the tweets dealt with the typical stuff, like tax returns, the auto industry, CEOs, “FAKE NEWS” and the like. But one tweet stood out among the rest. That tweet was about Snoop Dogg.

He sent a few more tweets out afterward. Like this:

And like that:

And like this:

And, uh ― then it went silent for a while.

But exactly 40 minutes after the president posted his final tweet, the official POTUS Twitter account literally copied, pasted and published the same exact Snoop Dogg tweet

For those wondering, exactly 1 hour and 52 minutes passed between the time of the two Snoop Dogg tweets in question. That means that the president ― nay, the leader of the free world! ― likely spent almost two hours of his day thinking about the rapper, instead of, say, the millions of people who stand to lose their health care under a newly proposed Republican plan.

What did Snoop Dogg do to warrant such antipathy? He released a music video in which he shoots a prop gun with a flag that says “BANG” at a clown who looks a whole lot like President Trump.

Uh, yeah, believe it or not, that’s it. That’s the whole story, and that’s why the president believes Snoop Dogg might be headed to jail in an alternative world in which the president is still Barack Obama.

This is not the rap beef we want. Is it the rap beef we deserve? No. No one deserves this.

Photoshop Battle Of Trump Taking Off A Pen Cap Is So On Point

For many in the U.S., it’s been difficult not to be overcomb-ed with anger in the past few months.

But Reddit’s latest Photoshop Battle might take the edge off.

A Photoshop Battle — or simply PsBattle — is a forum where users on the content-sharing site post edited versions of a photo. Its latest subject is this seemingly dull picture of Trump taking the cap off of a pen:

This picture was taken on Jan. 25, right before Trump signed an executive order instructing the construction of a wall along the Mexico-U.S. border.

This news, along with the president’s plans for an executive order drastically limiting refugee admissions and banning visas for individuals from several Muslim-majority countries, sparked protests and outcry — and Reddit, in its own way, was no different.

Here are some of the sharpest Photoshopped versions of the above picture of Trump and his pen. Let the good times scroll.

Naturally, there were plenty of wall jokes, too.

Invasion USA IV: The Battle for Houston. The Aftermath

At exactly midnight on December 31, every electronic device made in China for the last 30 years stops working! From the U.S. electrical grid and all its back-ups, engine control-management systems, early warning systems on U.S. satellites, every motor vehicle, aircraft and ship made after 1985, to even simple memory chips inside children’s teddy bears-every electronic fuse, resistor, or connector that was “Made in China” becomes dormant… forever at one minute past midnight on January 1st, EST. Every modern television broadcast of the U.S. New Year’s Eve festivities on the East Coast black-out. Millions of motor vehicles with an engine management system or engine-computerized system suddenly die, causing loss of control and thousands of accidents only seconds into the New Year. Traffic lights, directional beacons, communication stations, and all aircraft landing systems black out a couple of minutes later, as their modern back-ups start failing. Children’s Christmas presents, nearly forgotten, stop buzzing, moving, and blinking and go silent. Radios, computers, and all forms of electronic communication devices-even the latest 132 million electronic Christmas presents given only a week earlier (iPhone 5Gs, IPod Nano 4s, IMac Notepads and iPad 3s) go silent, never to blink on again. Ninety seconds after midnight, the entire electrical grid of North America deactivates itself and goes into close-down mode. The shutdown of the United States of America, and 97% of the entire world, is accomplished by 12:30 am U.S. Eastern time on the first day of the New Year. It takes only 30 minutes to completely dismantle the whole of modern Western civilization.

photo by Jan Vašek at stocksnap.io

We stopped by my mom’s house after school. The sky was cloudy and the air crisp. I crossed my arms against my chest while my son rang the doorbell. “Chilly in August?” I thought to myself, “It’s too early.”

Mom came to the door looking beautiful, as she always does. Her sky blue eyes lit up at the sight of her grandson. I could tell she had missed him. We were squatters at her house during the summer, when the days were hot and the pool was cool. But the last two weeks had been different.

He walked inside and flopped onto the rug in the foyer. We both joined him and Mom asked him questions about the new school year. He answered them — short and (not all that) sweet. He wasn’t over the moon about school and working his way through transition.

I thought of my niece as well, she had started school the day before. “The kids are in 5th and 6th grade now,” I thought to myself as Mom and Sam chatted. I realized how quickly the years are passing. I suddenly felt hollow in my chest, like Time had carved a crevasse with a spoon. I was lost in my thoughts when Mom said, “I guess it’s time to close the pool since everyone is back in school. Swimming seems to stop when school starts up — it’s the signal that summer is over.”

Her statement shocked me and something in me wailed, “Summer is over?”

Sure, Sam had been back in school for over a week. Yes, my niece had started too. Of course I’d noticed the crazy morning traffic. Yes, I’d been back at work full time. My brain held the facts, but somehow my spirit had denied them until now.

As the truth sunk in, my body caved under the weight of realization. Spent were the Sundays that didn’t turn into busy Mondays. Expired were the evenings when we’d sit on the tailgate and watch the sun to go down. Over were the impromptu trips with a free flowing ending. Finished was the freedom of summer.

“How can this be?” I asked myself. Without saying anything, I got up and walked out back. I flung off my flip flop and stuck my foot in the pool. It was cold to the touch — not May cold and warming up with longer days ahead, but Fall cold and getting colder as the nights grew longer instead. Reality set in as I said to myself, “Summer. Is. Over.”

Mom had followed me outside. My gaze met hers and we both knew more than summer was gone. Gone was the only season the kids were 10 and 11 and adored hanging out with each other. Gone was the hope of finally getting the whole family to the ocean. Gone was the time we’d gather by her pool and order pizza and listen to the kids beg to spend the night. Gone were the days of kayaking the river just because the water was right. Gone was our grip on yet another season, another year. It was a stabbing reminder that we cannot stop time.

My son and I headed home to take care of our afternoon duties. Though the sun had come out, darkness held me. I took a walk. The strands of golden sunlight passing through the trees brightened my mind a bit.

I moved gingerly through the evening. Aware of how fragile my feelings were, I stayed present and gave thanks for the little things.

I set my phone alarm for an early school morning and crawled into bed. I thought more about summer passing too quickly but this time honesty trumped nostalgia. I realized in the summer months, I had complained about time too. I worried about not having enough time to get my work done while we played. Then I fretted over the time I worked and put my son in front of the TV and his tablet. It seemed I was perpetually battling time.

I turned onto my right side, pulled the covers up over my face and tucked my head in shame. My sleep was restless and torn, but a rich smell wafted in as my coffee maker began its brewing at 5 a.m. It was enough to get my feet to the floor and shuffling to the kitchen.

I pulled a mug from the cabinet, placed a bit of sweet in the bottom and splashed cream over it. I poured from the pot slowly until the color in my cup got just right. The first sip is Sabbath so I sat down and took my time with it.

I noticed in my “trying ever so hard to get quiet” mind, that I was already fighting about time again. I considered all I had to think about and pray for prior to the house waking up. Before that could happen with clarity, I’d have to wait for my thoughts to stop jumping around like corn in a hot skillet. “I’m already behind, and I’ve barely gotten started.” I whimpered.

And somewhere in the midst of it all, truth broke through.

“Why can’t I just make peace with time?” The words were foreign. Everything in me paused and stood like a solider at full attention waiting for what followed:

I say, ‘Time passes too quickly.’ But I am the one who passes too quickly. Time moves along at a perfectly predictable pace.

I say, ‘There is not enough time.’ But that is like saying there is not enough sun or sky. Time is eternal.

I say, ‘I need to manage my time better.’ But that is like saying I need to manage the ocean’s tide. Time lies in God’s hands, not mine.

I say, ‘I’ve run out of time.’ But that is like saying the Mississippi River has run out of water. Time flows perpetually.

I say, ‘She has more time than I do.’ But that is like saying time doesn’t treat everyone the same or share itself equally. Time does not discriminate.

I say, ‘Time is not on my side.’ But I am the one who is adversarial with Time- blaming, criticizing, controlling, kicking and screaming at its stride. And Time takes my tantrums, humbly and dutifully marching on.

This is Time’s job to march on. If Time didn’t do its job, there would be nothing advancing me. Time propels me into decisions… awareness… action… forgiveness… growth. Time underpins the urgency I feel to live and love and serve and savor the moments.

The real story is, Time is my ally. Time lets me participate. Time includes me out of the goodness in its heart.

Today, I am making a peace treaty with the clock, the seasons and the mirror — the places where Time most shows itself marching on. I will recognize and respect Time’s loyal nature and stop blaming it for my problems and pain. In return, Time will give me today… and hopefully tomorrow and next week and years to come — but that is up to Time.

I wrote these things down and closed the journal in my lap. Sam’s alarm clock sounded off in his room. It was time for the day to begin. But before I stood up, I dropped my head to pray, “Thank you, Father Time, for letting me participate. May I make a peace with you that passes all understanding.”

Yes, summer is gone where I live, but the opportunity to change the way I partner with Time has just arrived.

Do you battle time, too? What would it be like to make peace with it? Leave a comment on Facebook or the blog. I’d love to hear from you.

I have Free Gifts for you here. An e-book about your path to purpose, a guided meditation to let go of worry, and a eulogy template. Yep, a place where you can write your own Eulogy now to get clear about the life you want to be living. I hope you’ll use it. It’s life changing.

New ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ Posters Show The Cast Ready For Battle

A new collection of “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” posters has been released, showing the cast decked out in war paint and ready for battle.

The series of images is titled “Faces of the Revolution” and features portraits of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Johanna (Jena Malone), Finnick (Sam Clafin), Prim (Willow Shields) and Boggs (Mahershala Ali), their faces painted with a red mockingjay.

Entertainment Weekly shared Gale’s poster, which shows him staring straight at the viewer, his eyes a piercing blue, with the words “Brothers Unite” and “The revolution is about all of us” printed across the bottom of the frame.

Katniss’ poster is equally dramatic, with her intense stare evoking the strength and determination that made her “The Mockingjay” in the first place.

All eight posters are being released by Lionsgate on July 6 via the film’s official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Comicbook.com has them all in one place for your viewing pleasure.

The posters come just a few days before Comic-Con, where the cast will be on hand for a Q&A about the final film in the franchise.

If only they’d release the movie already. Five months to go …

Groom And His Mom Go Head-To-Head In Epic Dance Battle

Every Saturday morning when Evan Hegge was growing up, he, his sisters and his parents would do their chores while listening to the radio and dancing around the house to pass the time.

“We would make fun of my parents for how they danced and they would make fun of how we danced,” Hegge told The Huffington Post.

So when Hegge tied the knot with Jenna Van Heek on Saturday in Yankton, South Dakota, he and his mom Pam incorporated the family pastime into the big day and went head-to-head in a surprise dance-off in front of all of the guests.

“The only people who knew were my immediate family and the DJ,” Hegge said. “In fact, Jenna told me the day after the wedding that after my mom and my slow dance to ‘What a Wonderful World,’ she was really bummed we didn’t do anything. She thought we were lame until the dance-off took place.”

At the reception, Hegge and his mom hit the dance floor, bustin’ a move to a medley of popular songs including “Get Up Offa That Thing” by James Brown, “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham and “Teach Me How To Dougie” by Cali Swag District.

“Everyone seemed to love it and kept asking if someone recorded it,” Hegge said. “It was great watching people smile and laugh. That’s what I love most about the dance-off is that it makes people smile and laugh, which everyone needs in their life.”

To find out which Hegge is the reigning dance champ, watch the video above.

‘League Of Legends’ Introduces Automated System To Battle Abusive Language

The world’s most popular computer game is taking a bold new step to counter harassment.

“League of Legends” publisher Riot Games announced in a blog post last week that North American players now have access to a new “reform system” that works to correct abusive behavior in the competitive online game.

If you’re playing a game and experience abusive language from a teammate or opponent, you can report that player at the end of the match — as usual. But now, a system is in place to automatically process the content of a player’s chat messages. It will “validate” the report and deliver a “reform card” to the offending player, detailing their negative behavior and the punishment they’re receiving in hopes of improving their interactions moving forward.

“If a player shows excessive hate speech (homophobia, sexism, racism, death threats, so on) the system might hand out a permanent ban to the player,” Jeffrey Lin, Riot Games’ lead social systems designer, elaborated in a comment on the blog post.

Punishment is supposedly handed down within 15 minutes after a game concludes. But how accurate can an automated system really be?

“In terms of false positives, we recently flew in Player Support and Player Behavior team members from all around the world to hand-review thousands of chat logs, and we saw false positive rates in the 1 in 6000 range,” Lin said.

The reform system is currently in a “testing” period, meaning that actual Riot Games employees will review the first several thousand reports. If all goes well, it’ll be introduced to all other regions that “League of Legends” is available in — Europe, Korea, China and Southeast Asia.

Ben Kuchera of Polygon noted Monday that it’s already rolling out for European players.

“League of Legends” has long led the charge in terms of how popular video games deal with online trolls, introducing innovative ways to counter harsh language and improve player behavior. The game is tremendously popular, boasting over 67 million monthly players in 2014. Because it’s typically played competitively with other humans — rather than against computer-controlled players — tensions can sometimes run high during matches.

Riot Games’ blog post notes that moving forward, the reporting system could also be used to reward players who display good behavior, rather than just punishing those who do not.

Battle of Gettysburg

Battle of Gettysburg

Little Round Top, The Wheatfield, The Peach Orchard, Devil’s Den, the Railroad Cut, Pickett’s Charge – these were the turning points within the most important battle of the bloodiest war in American history. But Gettysburg was not a single battle; it was a whole series of mini-battles. And even careful students of engagement can find themselves disoriented when reading about, or visiting, the battlefield. Here, finally, is a convenient guide for serious student and casual visitor alike that makes plain the sweep of events and the geography of the battlefield. This easy-to-follow guide will help you find all the important locales and understand what the participants saw in 1863, even if you have no prior knowledge of the battle. Designed to enhance the experience of both those reading about the battle for the first time, as well as Civil War “Ahololics”, this guide can be used on its own to learn about the battle, or as a great way to prepare for a future visit to the field. The “standard” U.S. Park Service tour of the battlefield, and its limited number of tour stops, is designed for the Park’s primary customers – the millions of visitors who want to make the battlefield circuit in one day, before zipping back to the hotel and restaurants. But the battle wasn’t fought with day-tripping tourists in mind, and there were more major engagements during that three day battle than what you’ll find in the standard Park tour. This book covers them all. Clearly written and illustrated with maps photographs and illustrations, this is the guide to have if you really want to understand what happened during those three terrible days at Gettysburg. So whether you’re a fresh recruit to the Battle of Gettysburg or a grizzled veteran on the subject, I guarantee that you’ll come away knowing a lot more about the battle after reading this book. Drop the Hobbit, Go with the Selkie: Hour of the Wolf Movie Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armiesand& Song of the Sea

2014-12-26-Hobbit_HBT3066511r_410.jpgThere’s a bit of OCD that goes along with genre film fandom — once you’ve signed on to a franchise, you’re kind-of obligated to follow it wherever it will take you, for good or ill. Thus the sullen air hanging over screenings of Revenge of the Sith or any of the Wolverine spin-offs — it really does sap the energy out of an auditorium when attendance is more dutiful than enthusiastic.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the final installment of Peter Jackson’s latest J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy, and to say it’s long-awaited is to say that fans of fantasy have been eager to get this bloated, unnecessary epic over with and move on to better things. I give my thoughts on how Jackson wraps up this prequel tale in my review for Jim Freund’s Hour of the Wolf, and also give my verdict on the much more engaging, Irish animated fantasy, Song of the Sea. A Taekwondo Match Unexpectedly Turns Into a Dance Battle; Everyone Wins The Round

A Taekwondo match can sometimes look like a beautiful, choreographed fight, almost like a dance. But sometimes, it can be an actual choreographed dance.

Watch the fighters above get down to the “We No Speak Americano” song as they put the combat aside, and battle with their dance moves instead.

Kevin Bacon would be proud.

Though the video made rounds on the Internet in 2013, we are thankful America’s Funniest Home Videos reposted the clip this week to remind us that combining dancing and fighting never gets old.

Singer Simone Battle Of ‘X Factor’ Found Dead

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Girl group singer Simone Battle was found dead in her West Hollywood home, authorities said Saturday.

Battle, 25, gained notoriety through performances on the television show “X Factor.” Her five-member band — G.R.L., originally a reboot of the Pussycat Dolls — had been signed by mega-hit maker Dr. Luke. Battle was found at home Friday, according to Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department Lt. David Smith. No further details were released. An autopsy was expected Sunday.

In a written statement, G.R.L.’s record companies RCA and Kemosabe called Battle an exceptional young talent and human being.

The group was featured on rapper Pitbull’s hit song “Wild Wild Love” earlier this year. Battle told The Associated Press in July that the collaboration gave the group a platform to launch its debut single, “Ugly Heart.”

Pitbull “has so many hits and he’s really done a great job … showing us the ropes,” Battle said. “This was the first time that we heard ourselves on the radio together.”

In Battle for Peace (The Oxford W. E. B. Du Bois): The Story of My 83rd Birthday

W. E. B. Du Bois was a public intellectual, sociologist, and activist on behalf of the African American community. He profoundly shaped black political culture in the United States through his founding role in the NAACP, as well as internationally through the Pan-African movement. Du Bois’s sociological and historical research on African-American communities and culture broke ground in many areas, including the history of the post-Civil War Reconstruction period. Du Bois was also a prolific author of novels, autobiographical accounts, innumerable editorials and journalistic pieces, and several works of history. One of the most neglected and obscure books by W. E. B. Du Bois, In Battle for Peace frankly documents Du Bois’s experiences following his attempts to mobilize Americans against the emerging conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. A victim of McCarthyism, Du Bois endured a humiliating trial-he was later acquitted-and faced political persecution for over a decade. Part autobiography and part political statement, In Battle for Peace remains today a powerful analysis of race in America. With a series introduction by editor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and an introduction by Manning Marable, this edition is essential for anyone interested in African American history.

‘The Case Against 8,’ Which Debuted As Sundance, Recalls California’s Gay Marriage Battle

Two gay couples who waged a five-year court battle to restore same-sex marriage in California are back in the spotlight, in a new film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo, and lesbian couple Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, finally achieved their goal last June. But “The Case against 8” recounts the long and often dispiriting judicial battle they fought to get there.

The documentary, by filmmakers Ben Cotner and Ryan White, is in official competition at the independent film festival, which wraps up next weekend in the Utah ski resort of Park City.

The story begins on November 4, 2008 — the day Barack Obama became the first ever African American US president, but also the day Californians voted in a referendum on so-called Proposition 8 to outlaw same sex marriages.

The “Prop 8” decision came only a few months after the western US state’s top court had legalized gay marriage, and some 18,000 same-sex couples had already tied the knot before the referendum blow.

Gay rights campaigners acted immediately, creating the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) to take the case to court, where they filed a first lawsuit in May 2009.

“We heard about the case very early on, before it was filed and we asked them about the possibility of making a documentary about it, without knowing that someday it would become a bigger case,” Cotner told AFP.

“At the time, we had no idea that it would go all the way to the Supreme Court,” he added.

As well as the roller-coaster legal fight — from the plaintiffs’ first court victory in San Francisco to the US Supreme Court in Washington — the film also focuses on the two couples at the heart of it.

The four became the face of gay marriage in California, putting huge pressures on them.

“I’ve never been so nervous in my life. Even though we’re ready, there is the weight of ‘I can’t mess this up. I have to represent so many people,'” Katami says in the film.

The two couples “never knew that the case would become so big and they didn’t know that they would become the cement of the story,” co-director White told AFP.

“But on top of that, the idea of having a documentary crew following them probably was not the thing that they wanted most at the beginning,” he added.

A third duo also plays a central role in the film: lawyers Ted Olson and David Boies, nicknamed “The Odd Couple” by the media.

The pair, who had been on opposing sides in the infamous legal battle which resulted in George W. Bush’s 2000 election win over Al Gore, united “to fight for LGBT rights together,” White said.

“That was the heart of the case and probably the heart of the film too,” he added.

Olson, a fervent Republican, drew harsh criticism for supporting gay marriage, even though, as he says in the documentary, “marriage is a conservative value.”

“It’s two people who love one another and want to live together in a stable relationship, to become part of a family and part of a neighborhood and part of our economy,” he said.

The filmmakers said they were careful not to get carried away by the strong emotions on both sides, over the five years.

But their objectivity was seriously challenged when the US Supreme Court restored the right of gays to marry in California, on June 26 last year.

“Two days later, we were at the weddings and that day was the hardest day to film because it was so hard for me to concentrate on the film,” said Cotner.

“I just wanted to be a part of the wedding with them. “I didn’t want to be a filmmaker at that moment. I wished I was just a participant at the wedding,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Office And ‘Rock Star’ Neil Young Battle Over Oilsands

After taking Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the federal government to task yesterday during a Toronto press conference and concert last night, Neil Young received an official reply from the Prime Minister’s Office earlier today regarding his comments on the Alberta oilsands development.

A press release from the PMO defended the government’s position stating it was a fundamental part of Canada’s economy. The statement also seemingly took a shot at Young in the process.

“Even the lifestyle of a rock star relies, to some degree, on the resources developed by thousands of hard-working Canadians every day,” Jason MacDonald said in a statement. “Our government recognizes the importance of developing resources responsibly and sustainably and we will continue to ensure that Canada’s environmental laws and regulations are rigorous.”

Young was quick to respond to the PMO’s statement, issuing a statement of his own through his label Warner Music.

“If rock stars need oil is an official response, how does that affect the treaties Mr. Harper’s government of Canada is breaking,” Young wrote. “Of course, rock stars don’t need oil. I drove my electric car from California to the Tar sands and on to Washington DC without using any oil at all and I’m a rock star.”

The singer — who said the issue is “with the government breaking treaties with the First Nation and plundering the natural resources the First Nation has rights to under the treaties” — stated he and the First Nations people “have respect for all working people” but were concerned with “the job they are working on.”

“They are digging a hole that our grandchildren will have great trouble digging their way out of,” Young wrote. “There are better jobs to be developing, with clean energy source industries to help make the world a safer place for our grandchildren.” He also noted the amount of CO2 being created by every gallon of gasoline being produced from the oil sands, reportedly three times as much CO2 as the cleanest oil sources.

“As a Canadian citizen, I am concerned that this government is not acting within the advice of science,” the singer said. “When people say one thing and do another, it is hypocrisy. Our Canadian environmental laws don’t matter if they are broken.”

In an interview with CBC’s Jian Ghomeshi yesterday which ran on Q this morning, Young was quick to respond to some of the backlash he received in Alberta following comments last year comparing Fort McMurray to Hiroshima. One radio station even banned Young’s songs from their playlist while some politicians including Alberta Energy Minister Ken Hughes said the comments were offensive.

Story continues after slideshow

“I don’t even react to them, they don’t mean anything to me,” Young said in response to Hughes comments. “It’s senseless, a man in a position like that whose elected by the people of the province of Alberta should be able tell the difference between a metaphor and a direct quote. If he doesn’t understand that Fort Mac stands for the oilsands, then he doesn’t even know where he lives. That was a ridiculous thing to do.

“And as far as burning my [records], whatever they want to do with my records, I could care less,” Young added. “My records are still there, you can burn them and break them and you can do whatever you want with them but they will stand the test of time and still be there. So I’m not worried about that. Doesn’t bother me at all. I say they missed the point.”

Young also said people should look at the motivation behind the development versus the motivation behind the First Nations people regarding the issue. During yesterday’s press conference, three seats remained empty with Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq. Minister of Natural Resources Joe Oliver and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Bernard Valcourt invited to attend but absent.

“This is not a myth, this is true,” Young said. “You can either believe me and the First Nations people or you can believe the oil companies and the Canadian government. And you got to look at the motivation. Why would anybody say anything? Why would I say anything? And why would the First Nations people say anything if there wasn’t something wrong? Then look at the motivation of the Canadian government and the oil companies that they’re working with.”

Young’s benefit tour for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) Legal Defense Fund continues later this week with shows in Winnipeg, Regina and Calgary. Young’s interview with Ghomeshi will air on CBC’s The National Wednesday evening.
