Watch Janet Jackson Surprise the Winners of Her Dance Competition and Invite Them to Perform at Billboard Awards

Rhythm Nation just got bigger!

Janet Jackson is all set to rock the stage at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and she’ll be grooving along next to two excited new faces.

Dancers Phillip Galbert, 28, of New Britain, Conn. and La’Vala “Lala” Moss, 26, of Birmingham, Ala. had already received the news that they’d been chosen out of 75,000 hopefuls as winners of the star’s global #DanceWithJanet competition.

But they then learned from the superstar herself that not only were they part of her JTribe, but they’d soon be taking the stage to perform with her on national television.

“Obviously we saw what you did online and that’s the reason why you’re here. You did a great job,” Jackson, in the exclusive clip above, tells Galbert and Moss who first submitted auditions online.

“We’ve come to a decision,” she says seated on the floor next to her current dancers, “How would you like to dance with us on the Billboard Awards?”

The question was met with both dancers collapsing to floor in disbelief as Jackson and her dancers rush over to embrace them.

“It was so intense,” Moss says in an interview just after getting the news. “This was the longest audition I’ve ever had to do in my life but it was so worth it.”

Moss first made national headlines when her original audition tape went viral. Moss had opted to shoot her audition video in the middle of the street in Birmingham when an officer drove up to tell her to move. But after hearing what she was doing, the officer changed his mind, stopped traffic and put on his spotlight encouraging Moss to keep dancing and follow her dream.

For Bronx native Galbert, he almost didn’t have the chance to audition in person. After receiving word that his video audition earned him an invite to the final callbacks in Los Angeles, Galbert responded that he did not have the money to afford a flight from his current home in Connecticut. Furthermore, he was on the verge of eviction. But Jackson’s teamed helped him get to L.A. and the experience changed his life.

“As a professional dancer that’s your dream to dance with Janet Jackson,” Galbert said during an interview. “You grow up wanting to be with these people and inspired by these people…No one understands what I go through, and to have this given to me. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

As Jackson’s current JTribe members tell the newbies, “Dreams do come true!” They’ll all join the superstar onstage for her first television performance in nine years, at the Billboard Awards.

Celine Dion Celebrates 20th Anniversary Of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ With Billboard Award Performance

Celine Dion looked and sounded like an angel ― complete with massive wings ― at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night as she performed her smash hit “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic” nearly 20 years after the film’s release.

Dion, who wore a plunging white gown with huge sleeves, sang the ballad while a montage of scenes from the Oscar-winning movie, released in December 1997, played in the background.

“This song means a lot to me, and it has played such a huge role in my career,” Dion said in a statement when it was announced earlier this month that she would perform the song at the awards. “I’m so grateful to the late James Horner, and to Will Jennings, for writing it and creating the opportunity for me to be part of ‘Titanic,’ an amazing film whose legacy will continue for generations to come.”

The Most Outrageous And Amazing Fashion At The 2017 Billboard Music Awards

Much like the Grammys, the Billboard Music Awards are a place for celebrities to wear pretty much whatever they want on the red carpet.

At the 2017 BBMAs on Sunday night, Halsey took that message to heart ― showing up in a bra, a skirt fashioned out of what looked like a trench coat, and heels that laced up all the way to her thighs. Singer Dencia wore what some likened to a Rubik’s Cube, while Celine Dion wowed in a white dress with built-in angel wings.

Cher Makes Us ‘Believe’ At The Billboard Music Awards

The spirit of the late ‘90s was alive and well at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

Shortly after Celine Dion sang her 1997 hit “My Heart Will Go On,” Cher killed it onstage with her 1998 No. 1 song “Believe.” She then turned back time to 1989, performing “If I Could Turn Back Time,” in a similar outfit to the one she wore in her legendary music video filmed aboard the USS Missouri.

Everyone was taken with Cher’s performance, even Dion:

After her two powerhouse performances, Cher was presented with the Icon Award by Gwen Stefani.

“So, I’ve wanted to do what I do since I was 4 years old, and I’ve been doing it for 53 years,” Cher said as the crowd broke out in applause. “That’s not an applause thing. I’m 71 yesterday. And I can do a 5-minute plank. OK? Just saying.”

She continued, “I want to thank my mom. When I was really young my mom said, ‘You’re not going to be the smartest, you’re not going to be the prettiest. You’re not going to be the most talented. But you’re going to be special. And then when I met Sonny [Bono], he said the same thing. And there was really nothing about me that lead anyone [else] to believe that I was going to be special.”

Cher wrapped up her speech by crediting a lot of her success to plain old luck.

“I work with people you might not know, but they are like the greatest people in our industry,” she told the crowd. “And I just have to say I think luck has so much to do with my success. I think it was mostly luck and a little bit of something thrown in.”

Jennifer Lopez Knocks Red Carpet Gown Out Of The Park At Billboard Latin Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez hit a few home runs of her own at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Given her romance with Yankees great Alex Rodriguez, we thought a few baseball metaphors might be in order.

It’s fair to say she swung for the fashion fences on the red carpet Thursday at the awards in Miami, wearing a net-like gown that barely covered all the bases.

And it was a hit, People said.

Take a look:

The ensemble got an assist  from Jimmy Choo heels. Her stylists Rob and Mariel told Billboard the fashion choice was “totally unexpected and classic Jen.”

Lopez, 47, didn’t strike out in the Julien Macdonald number that she wore during the ceremony either.

Lopez had a busy night, performing “Mirate” from her upcoming Spanish-language album while accepting the Telemundo Star Award and Social Artist of the Year award.

Dr. Luke’s Company Owes Most Of Its Billboard Success To Kesha

Dr. Luke’s ongoing legal battle with Kesha amid sexual assault allegations seemingly led to his long-anticipated removal as CEO of Kemosabe Records, The Hollywood Reporter noted this week

Quick reminder: Dr. Luke and his company, which he founded with Sony, owe the pop star most of its success.

Billboard produced a history of Kemosabe’s history on its top chart, the Hot 100, on Wednesday, reporting that 22 songs by Kemosabe artists have made the list. Of those, 13 came from Kesha. The company also holds two No. 1 hits: 2010’s “TiK ToK” and “We Are Who We R,” both by Kesha. Seven of the eight Kemosabe songs that have reached the list’s top 10 range belong to Kesha, too.

Kemosabe isn’t a big label, and Kesha is its most famous artist. Yet despite the fact that its biggest star claimed she was being abused by her producer, it took two and a half years before Sony nudged Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, out of the picture. According to The Guardian, his role as CEO terminated on March 31

That sluggish decision reportedly came down to simple bad PR. A source told The Wrap that Gottwald’s legal entanglements, which date back to 2014, had turned into “a public relations headache” for Sony. Both sides have waged a war in the media, most recently as the singer released damning emails from Gottwald, prompting him to respond in turn.

Kesha now has not released an album since 2012’s “Warrior,” although a judge has ruled she is free to work with another producer under the Sony umbrella, and she released a song with Zedd one year ago.

The Hot 100 is waiting for her return.

Billboard Proclaiming Role Of ‘Real’ Men And Women Sows A Sexist Mystery

A billboard in North Carolina declares a very strong opinion on “real” men and women ― and it has a lot of people talking about gender roles and family households.

The billboard along a Winston-Salem highway reads in large print, with no other context: “Real men provide. Real women appreciate it.”

An anonymous group leased the billboard for at least 30 days, The Associated Press reported.

Bill Whiteheart, president of the advertising company that owns the billboard, told CNN the group that purchased the $ 2,000 ad space wants to stay anonymous.

“We’re not supportive of or in opposition to the message,” Whiteheart told CNN. “We’re just the messenger.”

The billboard’s message, however, has offended some local residents. Boutique owner Molly Grace has created a Facebook event scheduled for Sunday morning to protest the billboard.

“I take it as a very deliberate jab at women who demand equality and demand to be seen as equals and those who are vocal,” Grace told local news station WXII-12. “To me, it’s also a very blatant statement about wanting to silence women and tell them to accept the way that things are.”

But not everyone thinks the sign is offensive. In fact, Grace’s Facebook event page has become a platform for debate on what the sign actually means.

Some argue that the sign devalues women who are breadwinners for their families and single women who provide for themselves. Others say the sign appears to be a derogatory statement against men who don’t provide for their families

“I would assume if you had a husband that loves you and appreciates you and showed it enough to carry your family and kids, that you would appreciate it,” resident Nathan Walin told WHNT News 19. “I don’t know why that would be offensive.

Heated discussions on the Facebook event page often touch on the lifestyle choices of single mothers, stay-at-home mothers and single working women. Grace clarified on Facebook that Sunday’s protest is about the sign’s “choice of words.”

“The sentiment that has upset SO many people…is the notion that these roles, on the billboard at least, are limited by their assigned gender,” Grace wrote on the Facebook event page.

Whiteheart, the owner of the billboard, said an announcement about the billboard would be coming. He didn’t elaborate, according to AP.

This Photo Of A Trump Billboard In Mumbai Is Real, And So Is The Dark Irony

It’s a photo so poignant and so symbolic you’d be forgiven for assuming it’s faked.

And you wouldn’t be alone in that conclusion: Both Reddit and Snopes dismissed it as fake when it went viral earlier this year. And yet this is a real photo of a real billboard, featuring President-elect Donald Trump promoting Trump Tower in Mumbai while homeless children camp in the street below.

“There is only one way to live,” the billboard reads, next to a larger-than-life photo of Trump smiling down on a scene of poverty from his gilded room. “The Trump way.”

Outside of cropping it and possibly tweaking the contrast, photographer Paul Needham assured The Huffington Post “the image is neither doctored nor edited in any way.”

Needham is the co-founder of SimpaNetworks, a company that helps farmers and small shops in rural India install and use solar power systems. He said he stumbled across the scene while driving through Mumbai to meet with some investors.

“I was inspired to take the photo because of the jarring juxtaposition of the Trump billboard and the poverty and homelessness down below,” he said. “The text on the billboard struck me as particularly naive and offensive.”

I saw Trump towering over the homeless, the children sleeping on cardboard on the street, and I was reminded of the ways in which our economic system can be painfully exclusive and unfair.”

Needham first shared the photo after he took it in August 2014, then posted it online again on Dec. 17, 2016, when it went viral.

“Business, done right, can create lasting social value,” said Needham. “I saw Trump towering over the homeless, the children sleeping on cardboard on the street, and I was reminded of the ways in which our economic system can be painfully exclusive and unfair.”

Here’s a higher resolution photo of the billboard Needham sent HuffPost:

Beyond the heavy symbolism of the photo itself, the internet’s reaction to the photo ― mostly in the form of dismissal ― is worth a closer look.

“The Reddit community actively engaged with this photo, and the opinion was nearly unanimous that the image had been photoshopped and was clearly a fake,” recalled Needham. “Anyone reading the Reddit chatter would likely defer to their high-technical knowledge, assume some deeper wisdom of these matters. But they were all wrong, the photo is genuine, and the geeks were merely opining, with no basis for their emphatic claims of fakery.”

(The fact-checking website Snopes also initially deemed the photograph a fake, speculating the homeless children had been photoshopped in based on the pixelation. Snopes has since corrected itself.)

“Who can we trust?” Needham asked rhetorically, adding that Snopes was quick to admit the mistake. “I’m grateful to [Snopes] for their tireless work to debunk fake news and rumor.”

“Pixelated, the poverty was assumed to be photoshopped in,” said Needham. “Just visit Mumbai and take pictures in the street. There is no need to Photoshop in the homeless. They are everywhere for all to see.”

Pornhub Times Square Billboard Meets Stiff Opposition, Comes Down

It was a case of premature evacuation.

A Pornhub billboard erected Monday in Times Square has come down almost as quickly as it went up.

The sign — which displayed the winning entry in a contest for a non-pornographic ad concept — read, “All You Need Is Hand,” with two hands forming a heart.

But the relatively tame campaign seemed to meet stiff opposition. Pornhub Vice President Corey Price told The Huffington Post the DoubleTree hotel, which occupies the building where the sign was mounted, objected strongly enough to have it removed early Wednesday.

“Our initial agreement with City Outdoor, the company that owns the billboard space, was that we had full approval for the ad to be placed in the initial location,” Price said.

A DoubleTree employee contacted by HuffPost declined to comment. A request for comment to Hilton, the hotel’s parent company, was not immediately returned.

Now Pornhub is scouting alternative sites for the ad in New York City and other metropolitan areas, Price said.

But the mainstream campaign hasn’t gone away entirely. To bolster the marketing, Pornhub put together a video with the Gotham Rock Choir that melds the Beatles’ classic “All You Need Is Love” with Pornhub’s “All You Need Is Hand” parody version.

We’re not sure the Fab Four would have approved, but what the heck:
