Brandon Maxwell Gets a Reality Check

Brandon Maxwell has had it. Holding forth under the Lone Star State flag in his office two days before his New York Fashion Week show, dressed in shorts, Nikes and a Piggly Wiggly T-shirt, he’s on a rant: “I’m so bored with reading articles about whether New York matters. Look at Tom Ford — that was the most gorgeous show. Have you ever seen a Jason Wu dress up close? It takes your breath away. Alex Wang, he makes clothes flawlessly. There are incredibly talented people here — seamstresses, patternmakers, assistants, my former intern Claudia Li, who is killing it. Oh yeah, New York matters, we’re out here doing the damn thing!”
Maxwell, 34, is in a good position to throw a little ‘tude. His business is enjoying double-digit, year-over-year growth; he’s looking for investors to help him expand and “speak to a wider audience,” is a finalist for the International Woolmark Prize, and has a new role on Bravo’s reboot of “Project Runway,” debuting March 14, that could lead him down a similar path to pop culture fame and fortune as his idol, Michael Kors.
“I hope it doesn’t become too much of a distraction,” quips Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken

Brandon Maxwell RTW Fall 2018

“I always start with an emotion,” Maxwell said backstage before his show. “This was really about going to work, and my customer.” Stating the obvious? Shouldn’t every collection start there? Maxwell explained that he finally feels confident enough to trust his own instincts through the work process, and that, after a year-and-a-half of retail sales, he’s gotten to know his customer for real rather than his imaginary perception of her. “I understand that she has more places to go than black-tie events,” he said. “I love an evening moment. But we want to evolve, and I want to grow. Now that I know the customer, I know what she’s wanting. My customers do many different things during the day.”
That realization has taken Maxwell to a more relaxed take on what remains his unapologetic embrace of traditional glamour. His customer is a high-polish kind of gal; she’s never undone, and he refuses to fake false edge for the runway. To that end, last season’s jeans proved a hit so they’re back for fall, but worn with perfectly constructed tops such as a cutaway jacket with defined shoulders. He also showed a broadened range of curvy knits, while sexy bodycon dresses bridged

Brandon Maxwell on Gaga at the Super Bowl, Family Values and Fear of Watching His Runway Show

Anyone who was at Brandon Maxwell’s spring 2017 show at the Russian Tea Room remembers Riley Montana, the model who gleefully shimmied and twirled down his runway. If she caught the audience’s eye, she made a big impression on Maxwell, too, who refuses to watch his own runway show out of “panic.” “I knew she did it to make me smile,” he said.
In conceptualizing his second campaign, he wanted to capture the spirit of family and how important it is to stay close to your roots, even when your life changes significantly — like Maxwell, who’s from a small town in Texas. He chose to shoot Montana in her childhood home in Detroit with members of her family, including her aunt who raised her and her sister who had just had a baby. In one shot, she’s sitting on the sofa next to a TV that’s playing her runway moment in Maxwell’s last show. In another shot, she’s sashaying through the living room while her family looks on. “They’re so proud of her,” Maxwell said.

‘Hamilton’ Star Brandon Victor Dixon Says Cast Has ‘Nothing To Apologize For’

Hamilton,” an overwhelmingly popular musical about the political foundations of the United States, captured the attention of President-elect Donald Trump this weekend when castmate Brandon Victor Dixon read a message to a singled-out audience member after a performance  in New York City.

That audience member was Vice President-elect Mike Pence, and the message read, in part:

“We, sir, we are the diverse America, who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”

Shortly after Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the hit theater production, delivered his impassioned words on Friday night, Trump took to Twitter to demand the “overrated” “Hamilton” cast apologize for “harassing” Pence.

Early the following Monday morning, Dixon appeared on “CBS This Morning” to deliver a simple response: “There’s nothing to apologize for.”

When asked by CBS why he and his castmates at Richard Rodgers Theatre decided to speak directly to Pence, Dixon explained that “Hamilton” is a politically-conscious production with a platform capable of reaching a global audience.

“The producers, the creatives, and the cast ― we recognize that ‘Hamilton’ is an inherently American story told by a definition of the American community,” he said. “We are men, women of different colors, creeds and orientations. You know, the resonant nature of the show throughout the world, throughout the global community, demands we make statements when there are important issues facing us as a community. So we wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and unity considering all the emotional outpour since the election.”

He added:

“Conversation is not harassment. I was really appreciative that Vice President-elect Pence stood there and listened to what we had to say. And you know, I know that some people have said that a one-sided conversation or lecture is not conversation, but it was the beginnings of a conversation I hope that we can continue to have.”

Dixon also explained that “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda helped craft the statement along with producer Jeffrey Seller and director Tommy Kail. Seller called Dixon an hour-and-a-half before curtain to see if he would be interested in sharing their words. Dixon explained how he read the message to the cast and made some adjustments ahead of his end-of-show speech.

For the record, Pence said that he really enjoyed the performance and wasn’t offended by what was said. He is, according to Dixon, welcome to come to the show again ― as is Trump ― to have a conversation with the cast backstage.

Dixon had a message for the individuals coping with fear following the election of Trump, too:

“For me, I think the most important thing to me with respect to all the emotions everyone is feeling after this election is to make sure that people recognize we are not alone. We are here together. And we need to listen to one and other and speak to one and other, and maybe those of us who feel their voice has been marginalized or might become marginalized ― it’s important that they recognize that there are allies all over the place.”

Dixon has been widely supported by past and present “Hamilton” castmembers in New York City and Chicago in the days following his performance:

Brandon Scott Wolf Creates Dating Website For Himself Only

Finding love online can be difficult when you are just one of millions actively seeking a partner.

So Brandon Scott Wolf has found a way to increase the odds in his favor. He’s created DateBrandonScott Wolf, a dating site where he is the only dating option.

The website claims to be “America’s No. 1 Online Dating Site for Brandon Scott Wolf.”

Women interested in dating the 25-year-old Brooklyn-based bartender and comedian simply need to fill out a profile and write an essay between 500 and 1,000 words about “an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.”

In return, Wolf promises to be the perfect partner for a woman seeking a serious relationship, which he defines as “being able to lay on a couch together while wearing pajamas and watching ‘Bob’s Burgers’ (LOL).”

So far, Wolf has received more than 45 applications, including one all the way from India, Fusion.net reports.

Wolf is cautiously optimistic he might find lasting love from one of the applicants.

“Half seem real, a quarter seem VERY real,” he told Elite Daily.

Since Wolf is a known comedian who contributes jokes to the “Weekend Update” segment on “Saturday Night Live,” you’re forgiven if you’re not sure he’s serious.

Neither is he.

“People have asked me, ‘Are you serious? Is this a joke?’ And my only response is, ‘I’m not even sure,'” Wolf told Mashable. “There’s a part of me that’s hoping someone is going to get this 100 percent, and won’t catfish me, and then I’ll ask them out on a date.”

Kelly Clarkson Felt ‘Pathetically Alone’ Before Meeting Husband Brandon Blackstock

In a new interview, Kelly Clarkson admits she was a bit lonely before she met her husband, Brandon Blackstock.

“I was single for almost seven years,” Clarkson tells Parade magazine of her love life prior to falling for Blackstock. “Every Christmas, it was like, ‘Seriously, I’m still pathetically alone? Awesome. I’m still telling people I’m okay with it? I’m not.’”

The 31-year-old said she only had three boyfriends in her life until last year, when she decided to give it a shot with Blackstock after meeting him at the 2012 Super Bowl. The two connected through her manager and his father, Narvel Blackstock. In February, following their December engagement, the “American Idol” star told Cosmopolitan, “I’ve never been truly loved like I am right now.”

Clarkson and Blackstock married in an intimate ceremony in Tenn., on Oct. 20 at Blackberry Farms after scrapping plans for a big to-do.

“I bawled like a baby,” she tells Parade of their wedding day. “We both wrote our own vows, and it was hard to get through them, but I did it … Brandon was like, ‘The Notebook ain’t got nothin’ on me — come on!’ And he took me out [on the lake] in a rowboat. It was very sweet. The whole thing was perfect.”

Soon, baby will make three. The singer announced she is pregnant with her first child on Twitter Tuesday (Nov. 19). Blackstock already has two children from a previous marriage.

“Everybody calls me fat all the time, so I can’t wait to have a reason, instead of everybody just being a jerk!” she admits to Parade about the pregnancy. “I’ve never been Gisele Bündchen, so ain’t nobody expectin’ that! I like to set a [low] standard so people don’t expect a lot.”

Read Clarkson’s full interview in Parade, due out Sunday.
