Busy Philipps Says She Made More Money Doing Instagram Ads Than Acting Last Year

Busy Philipps is getting honest about her money.

The 37-year-old actress opened up about her income in a Thursday Instagram Story, revealing that she made more money last year doing sponsored ads on the social media site than through acting.

After someone said that they liked Philipps’ Instagram because she wasn’t always posting #spon like some other celebrities, the actress revealed that she “wasn’t above it” and had done sponsored content in the past — but only for brands she actually liked.

“I gotta be honest with you, I didn’t make a ton of money as an actor last year,” Philipps said. “I made more money doing that kind of stuff, like the partnerships with brands.”

It is common for celebrities to promote brands on the photo-sharing site. Stars like Khloé Kardashian, Lea Michele, Bella Hadid and more have gotten in on the action.

“I’m not above it, guys,” Philipps said in the clip. “I just only choose things that I genuinely like and, like, would want to partner with, like, for instance, my Michaels partnership, which, you know, is my favorite thing of all time. And I’m doing one next week, I think, that feels like me.”

Busy Philipps Describes Her ‘Freaking Creepy’ Uber Scare

The mother-of-two‘s Instagram account has several posts promoting the arts and crafts retail chain along with Campbell’s Soup and more.

However, she noted in the video that she likely wouldn’t promote a product that she deemed “random and weird” — “Unless it was, like, a billion dollars.”

“I’m gonna sell things,” she continued. “That’s my only point.”

Philipps currently plays Gale Liptrapp in HBO’s Vice Principals and last year made appearances on New Girl and Angie Tribeca.

Busy Phillips’ ‘Mom Pain’ Instagram Is Relatable As Hell

A huge part of being a parent is carrying a million heavy things everywhere you go. On occasions when I’ve been able to leave the house solo, I feel like twirling around like Maria in “The Sound of Music” because I feel so free and unburdened without my usual purse/my son’s backpack/bag full of snacks plus a soccer ball/heavy-ass bicycle/27 grocery bags burden.

That, plus lifting and carrying a 20-50-pound human on one side of your body, can contribute to some weird aches and pains.

That’s why Busy Philipps’ latest Instagram post is so relatable.

Underneath a picture of herself loaded down with giant bags, the actress wrote: “I’m getting an MRI on my right shoulder tomorrow because I’ve been having so much pain for the last several months. Everyone has been asking how I injured it and I don’t have a good answer. BUT THEN I JUST CAUGHT MY REFLECTION WALKING UP TO MY HOUSE. I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT GUYS. I’M A MOM.”

Philipps and her husband, Marc Silverstein, have two daughters, 8-year-old Birdie and 3-year-old Cricket. Phillips regularly shares sweet photos of the two on Instagram.

Let’s hope Philipps’ insurance covers “mom shoulder.”

Busy Thandie Newton Finds Time to Do Her Own Makeup

KEEPING BUSY: British actress Thandie Newton is not above doing her own makeup. “I did all this in the back of the car on my way here this morning,” she told WWD at Erdem Moralioglu’s fall show, where she sat next to Clemence Poesy and “Nocturnal Animals” star Ellie Bamber.
Newton is set to star in the fourth season of British crime Drama “Line of Duty.” “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. When you see it, when you see me, I’m going to change. You will be changed,” she teased.
This will be a busy year for Newton, who has barely a moment to spare for her foreseeable future. “I’m doing a movie with Xavier Dolan, an enfant terrible from Montreal like Monsieur Erdem,” she said. “It’s called ‘The Death and Life of John F. Donovan’ and it’s shooting in Prague with Jessica Chastain, Michael Gambon, Natalie Portman and me. Oh, there’s another movie! It’s coming out this year, with Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton and me. It is so sick, it’s probably the sickest of all them. It’s in response to Trump.
“Then I’m doing ‘Star Wars,’ which shoots in Pinewood, and I’m going straight from ‘Star Wars’ the day

Tom Hanks’ Brother Secretly Voices Woody When Tom Is Busy, AKA Your Childhood Is A Lie

If you’ve ever had a Woody toy, video game or — in a few cases — seen a “Toy Story” movie, you’ve assumed the voice you heard coming from the cowboy in the yellow-plaid shirt was that of Tom Hanks.

Well, reach for the sky, because there’s been a snake in your boot/ears this whole time. This town was big enough for two all along and the dual-sheriffs are actually Tom Hanks and his brother, Jim Hanks.

UK-based comedian Graham Norton used his show to confront Tom about this mystery back in 2011, bringing out a Woody doll and asking if he had provided the voice.

“No, it’s my brother Jim,” Tom responded smirking, and then continued on to explain, “There are so many computer games and video things and Jim just works on those all year long.”

Clarifying how this initial idea came about, Tom said that it had to do with him being too busy to handle all the extra voice work. He recalled to Norton, being asked rhetorically, “You don’t want to do this,” to which he appears to still respond, “No, get my brother Jim, he’ll do it.”

As my co-worker put it, this means “your child’s cute little Woody toys are a f**king lie.” Another surprised and uncharacteristically outraged co-worker added, “everything is bulls**t.”

How could this be?

Jim Hanks is an actor in his own right, with a long list of credits since 1992. One such recent role in 2015 was for a short titled, “The Other Brother,” where he plays the sibling of a famous Hollywood producer. His character’s job in the short is to give tram tours around Universal Studios, showing off the more well-known brother’s success.

Over a dozen credits are from his work voicing Woody in “Toy Story” properties. Many of these are for video games, but you’ve most likely heard his work in the popular doll versions of Woody (which Norton showed) or if you’re of a certain generation, perhaps in the 2000 movie, “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins.”

Jim can manipulate his voice to sound almost exactly like his brother’s, which is part of the reason why you’ve never noticed the difference. The other part, of course, being that you didn’t expect a beloved actor and Pixar’s first franchise to betray you.

In the video below, Jim shows off his relative talent, while also admitting what scares him about the level of fame that follows his brother.

The Huffington Post reached out to Jim Hanks’ representation, along with multiple producers from his early ”Toy Story” roles, but nobody wished to comment on the story.

With no further answers to console your shaken memories, it’s time to find your old Woody toy, pull its string and somehow accept that it has actually been pulling your string this whole time.

“You’re my favorite deputy,” Jim Hanks tells you in Tom Hanks’ voice as Woody.

You should have always known you were second string.

How to Be Less Busy

2015-05-05-1430853150-7049820-Howtobe.png

I met a friend for coffee, and she asked, “How’s it going?”

I replied, “It’s busy! I’m good, but really busy.”

She started to laugh and said to me, “When was the last time you weren’t busy?”

Whoa, this question rocked me to my core.

First thought: Do vacations count?

Second thought: I can’t even remember the last time I wasn’t busy.

Third thought: Something has got to change because

Busy is the new normal. We default to busy.

… and that is no way to live. This interaction led me to choose “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less” by Greg McKeown for April Book Club. (Part of my New Year’s Resolution was to read 12 books in 2015 as a part of Science of People book club. Read with us!)

If you are in a perpetual state of busy, you have got to change.

If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.

I highly encourage you to read Essentialism, but if you are just too busy (hint, hint) here are my favorite tips below:

1. The Mindset of an Essentialist

Essentialism is a mindset, it is a way of life and it is a new way to be. Here is an elegant breakdown of a non-essentialist and an essentialist.

A nonessentialist:

  • thinks, “I have to”

  • reacts and says yes without really thinking

  • takes on too much and feels out of control

  • is exhausted and overwhelmed

An essentialist:

  • thinks, “I choose to”

  • executes and says no to everything except the essential

  • gets the right things done and feels in control

  • does great work and experiences joy in the journey

Which mindset are you in right now? Which mindset do you want to be in?

2. Living Regret Free

Before diving into the principles, think about why you are here. McKeown shares the story of an Australian nurse named Bronnie Ware who cared for people at the end of their lives and recorded the regrets most often discussed by patients. She eloquently states that most people express this regret at the end of their life:

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”

Now is your time to re-evaluate. What do you want to achieve in this lifetime? Who are the people you want to spend time with? What are the things you want to do for you? What do you want to prioritize?

Challenge: Write down the five things you want to achieve by the end of your life.

This list is what will drive you to be an essentialist. This list will center you and help you say no to the people you don’t want to spend time with. It will help you stop doing the things you don’t want to do and only prioritize what matters.

3. You Have Choice

One of the most powerful pieces of science McKeown shared in the book was on something called learned helplessness. Martin Seligman and Steve Maier did an experiment with German shepherd dogs.

Seligman and Maier divided the dogs into three groups. Dogs in the first group were placed in a harness and administered an electric shock but were also given a lever they could press to make the shock stop. The dogs in the second group were placed in an identical harness and given the same lever and the same shock with one catch. The lever didn’t work, rendering the dogs powerless to do anything about the electric shock. The third group of dogs were simply placed in the harness and not given any shocks. Afterwards each dog was placed in a large box with a divider across the center. One side of the box produced an electric shock while the other did not. Then something interesting happened. The dogs that either had been able to stop the shock or had not been shocked at all in the earlier part of the experiment quickly learned to step over the divider to the side without shocks. The dogs that had been powerless in the last part of the experiment did not step over the divider. These dogs didn’t adapt or adjust. They did nothing to try to avoid getting shocked. Why? They didn’t know they had any choice other than to take the shocks-they had learned helplessness.

This experiment is powerful because it shows us that we forget we have choice. We forget we have the power to change. We forget we are able to say no.

Challenge: What are three things you say yes to without even thinking? Think of the activities and people in your life. Remember that you have choice. Do you still choose all of these activities and people to be in your life?

4. The Hell Yeah Filter

If you had to summarize Essentialism, it can be done in this headline:

No more yes. It’s either HELL YEAH! or No

I call this the Hell Yeah Principle. It is incredibly difficult to implement, but it is a profound guiding principle and worth every ounce of effort. Why? It means living with extreme purpose and gusto. No more maybe, no more meh, no more half-assed tries. You either do it and love it, or don’t do it at all. Can you live by the Hell Yeah Filter?

Challenge: Write, “It’s either HELL YEAH! or No” on a Post-it note next to your computer. When responding to emails, taking calls and making your to-do lists, run everything through the Hell Yeah filter on this note. Don’t do anything that doesn’t pass.

5. Right Now

My favorite thing to do at the Science of People is to take big concepts and to break them down into practical tasks. If you want to be less busy, here are the 3 things you should do right now based on the Essentialist philosophy:

  1. Write down your one goal for the month. This is your clarity of purpose. What is the one thing you want to do really well in the next month?

  1. Now, look at your to-do list and cut it in half. That’s right. Remove all of the things that are “nice to do” not “need to do” for you to achieve your goal.

  1. Look at your calendar for the next month and remove 5 events, calls and meetings that are non-essential for your goal.

Mark your calendar to do this on the first day of every month.

It’s Your Choice: The Antidote For Being Too Busy

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You run into someone you haven’t seen for a while and ask them how they’re doing and they say, “I am so busy.” Or maybe someone asks you about how things are going and your knee-jerk response is to reply, “I’m really busy,” maybe even with a bit of pride at how busy you are.

We are living in a very fast-paced world and I think we’re all feeling the pressure. I was recently in a café and heard a woman who was preoccupied on her phone tell her young daughter, “Mommy’s busy right now. Hold on.” Seriously, everything is moving so quickly that something’s gotta give.

Luckily, I’ve got an antidote for all that busy-ness and I’m going to share it with you in today’s episode of She Takes on the World TV. Join me for the video below:

To watch this week’s episode, go here.

OK, let’s recap. Here are three steps you can take right now to tame that busy schedule of yours:

  1. Recognize that you always have a choice about what fills your time. For example, you can choose to let an email wait in your inbox instead of responding right away or you can choose to unplug from social media and texting for a set period of time so you can be more present with those you love. YOU have control over your own schedule.
  2. Drop the busy badge of honor. Stop engaging with all your busy friends in the one-up contest of who stayed up working the latest or whose schedule is the most jam-packed. Remember, no one ever really wins in a “who’s busiest” contest.
  3. Resist the temptation to judge other peoples’ schedules or how busy you perceive them to be. Just focus on sweeping your own side of the street. We all choose how we spend our time, and what’s busy for some might not seem all that busy to you. (See #2; it’s not a contest!)

My actionable for you this week is to shift your perspective when it comes to being busy. If you’re feeling too busy, remind yourself that you have a choice and have the power to make a change. If someone sets you off and makes you want to bust out your busy badge of honor, don’t engage in a busy battle that you know won’t serve you.

The next time someone asks how you’re doing, my hope is that you’ll be able to smile and tell them how much you’re really enjoying having some free time on your hands. It’s a beautiful thing!

Please leave a comment below if this resonates with you; I’d love to hear what steps you’re taking to be a little less busy in your own life.
