Glenn Martens Celebrates Diesel With Red Tag Capsule

MILAN — Renzo Rosso is banking on hot young designer Glenn Martens to conceive an equally sizzling capsule collection for the Diesel Red Tag label.
“Glenn comes from Belgian training, so he has this practical-yet-surreal, Margiela-like sense,” said Rosso, whose group OTB also controls Maison Margiela, Marni, Paula Cademartori, Viktor & Rolf, Staff International and Brave Kid, in addition to Diesel. “But then he’s young and modern, and knows how to appeal to a global, educated consumer, while simultaneously being able to experiment with denim.”
Rosso may be an innovative and unconventional entrepreneur, who breaks with tradition, but he also comes prepared. “He’s been following me for three years, I’ve been told, and watching what I have been doing,” Martens said during an interview ahead of the presentation in Milan, scheduled on June 16. The Belgian designer, who is creative director of the Paris-based Y/Project label, which scooped up the 2017 ANDAM Grand Prize, made fashion fame with his deconstructed denim that can be ruched or folded back to create a wider effect.
“This is a new and fun way to celebrate Diesel, this amazing brand and its 40th anniversary,” Martens said of the Red Tag concept of capsules in collaboration with a series of edgy designers. The

For Restless Sleepers Celebrates Belmond Hotel Cipriani With Capsule

Francesca Ruffini, the founder and creative director of For Restless Sleepers, has designed a capsule collection to fete the 60th anniversary of Venice’s prestigious Belmond Hotel Cipriani, located on the Giudecca island.
For the collection, Ruffini, a loyal guest of the hotel, was inspired by a specific type of rose, called Mocenigo, which is also used by fragrance label The Merchant of Venice for the scent diffused throughout the hotel.

In keeping with the inspiration, Ruffini developed a rose pattern, which she splashed on three exclusive styles, all crafted from silk satin. They include a two-piece pajama set, a robe and a pair of shorts. The collection will be sold exclusively at the hotel’s boutique.
Belmond is a luxury hotel franchising firm founded almost 40 years ago with the acquisition of Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice. The group now has 49 hotels in exclusive locations, such as St. Petersburg, Santa Barbara, Rio de Janeiro and London.

“We envisioned this as a space that’s always changing, a place where we could host events for the community,” said Lim. Indeed, while some of the collectible furniture pieces remained the same over the year, others were added or moved to make way for art installations. The clothes and shoes were not the focus but instead a small edit of pieces displayed as one-off installations themselves.
Others were worn by those in attendance, including 3.1 Phillip Lim chief executive officer and cofounder Wen Zhou, models Sami Miro and Chloe Norgaard and actor Jack Falahee. Also in the mix were designers Eddie Borgo and Trina Turk, Barneys New York creative ambassador-at-large Simon Doonan and Magasin owner Josh Peskowitz.

Paul Smith Celebrates Tom Hingston’s Music Career With Collaboration

MAKING PROGRESS: A mutual love of music, art and design brought Sir Paul Smith and the graphic designer Tom Hingston together. The two joined forces to debut “Progress,” an exhibition and capsule collection celebrating Hingston’s 20 years in business.
Smith called the tie-in a “natural fix” given the close ties both creatives have with the music industry. Hingston is best known for working with musicians, including Grace Jones, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Lady Gaga, to create art for album covers as well as direct music videos.
To mark his professional milestone, Hingston wanted to work with Smith to create ways of experiencing music imagery and band merchandise.
“I said, wouldn’t it be great to not do T-shirts, but some super limited-edition, high-end band merchandise instead?” said Hingston. “The products take the imagery that everyone is so familiar with and give it a whole new lease of life.”
Among the standout products in the capsule are hand-painted leather jackets by Robert Del Naja of the band Massive Attack, a velvet embroidered bomber jacket by Nick Cave and acid-colored knitwear by Chemical Brothers. “One of my favorite album covers is ‘Born in the Echoes’ by the Chemical Brothers, so we’ve taken the artwork and

Ermenegildo Zegna Exhibit Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Brand’s Entry in RTW

MILAN — Who knew the Ermenegildo Zegna Group produced Emilio Pucci’s first men’s wear collection in 1968? And who knew Anna Zegna, president of Fondazione Zegna, worked with Gianni Versace on the designer’s first men’s collection in 1978?
These are only two of the surprising discoveries made during a preview tour of the exhibition “Uomini all’Italiana [Men Italian Style] 1968” staged at Casa Zegna, near the brand’s storied wool mill in Trivero, a one and a half hour drive from Milan. The exhibit, organized by Fondazione Zegna, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Ermenegildo Zegna’s entry into ready-to-wear and runs May 6 to Oct. 28. “These years were the beginning of the Italian fashion system and lifestyle,” said Anna Zegna. “Women’s wear was more established, while men’s wear was starting at that time.”

The exhibit also pays tribute to the namesake founder of the company, and to his sons, Angelo and Aldo. Ermenegildo Zegna first traveled to New York in 1938 to set up a branch, the Ermenegildo Zegna Corp., to meet Italian tailors, to work on direct distribution and “to fight the supremacy of English fabrics,” as claimed by a number of photos, ads and correspondence on

Chaumet Celebrates the Art of Drawing

DRAWING ROOM: Chaumet is celebrating the artistry of its jewelry design process by staging two exhibitions of gouaché technical drawings and partnering with the Paris School of Fine Arts.
The jewelry house is opening its gilded reception rooms on Place Vendôme for a show of sketches with an architectural theme, combining works from its archive of 80,000 drawings with sketches by art students and contemporary designs from its creative studio, led by Claire Dévé-Rakoff.
The exhibition can be viewed by appointment until March 30. This comes on the heels of a separate show at the Salon du Dessin, which ended on Monday, focused on drawings of tiaras, a signature of the house ever since Napoléon I and Empress Joséphine were its top customers.
Chaumet showcased a selection of 38 gouachés alongside tiara maquettes made of painted nickel silver, in addition to a selection of negatives on glass.

In addition, the house has asked students and recent graduates of the Paris School of Fine Arts to submit sketches inspired by elements of ancient or contemporary architecture. The winning works will be added to Chaumet’s collection and may inspire future high jewelry creations, the house said.

Le Bon Marché Celebrates Logomania

PARIS — Le Bon Marché is celebrating fashion’s renewed love affair with logos with an event featuring exclusive products by 130 brands.
The “Let’s Go Logo!” exhibition, set to run from Feb. 24 to April 1, will showcase capsule collections with playful variations on brand logos and unexpected products, including Isabel Marant gardening gloves, an AMI Alexandre Mattiussi scooter helmet and Guerlain honey.
It features two guests of honor: Off-White designer Virgil Abloh, who has created a temporary store including the brand’s first cafe; and Rami Mekdachi’s lifestyle brand Lola James Harper, which has designed a lounge space, with an area to record music and shoot hoops, as a taster for its future Paris hotel.
Jennifer Cuvillier, style director at Le Bon Marché, said the retailer started working on the idea a year ago, and watched the phenomenon snowball in the last 12 months.
“It’s a huge trend this season, with logos appearing on all kinds of products in fashion, whether luxury brands or designer labels, ready-to-wear or accessories. In every sector, the logo is king,” she told WWD.
“The approach has evolved since the Eighties,” she added. “Nowadays, logos are very visual, big, unexpected and fun, which I think is linked to the explosion

Independents’ Day: Mr. Sid Celebrates a Half-Century in Suburban Boston

The story begins when Sid Segel opened a small tuxedo rental business in suburban Boston. His sons, Ira and Robert, used that business as the seed to open Mr. Sid in 1967.
Today, that small shop has morphed into a 10,000-square-foot upscale men’s store in Newton Centre, Mass., that is run by Sid’s grandsons Stuart and Barry. The brothers, whose late father Ira was an institution in the men’s wear industry until his death in 2015, celebrated the milestone with a black-tie event last week. Later this month, the Segels will take the plunge and open a second store in downtown Boston in the newly developed Seaport district.
Here, Stuart Segel talks about the anniversary, the planned expansion and the qualities that have enabled Mr. Sid to survive.
WWD: Managing to survive as an independent retailer for 50 years is quite an accomplishment. How did the business get its start?
Stuart Segel: My grandfather, Sid, had a tuxedo rental business and had a branch in Newton Centre. My father and uncle opened their business on Sept. 25, 1967, and eventually it transformed into this. They decided to call it Mr. Sid because back then a name meant a lot for credit purposes. LVMH Young Artisan Program Celebrates Fourth Year

SCHOOL IS IN: “Passion for craftsmanship can take you very far,” said Bernard Arnault, recalling Louis Vuitton’s rise from a “lone craftsman in his native Jura” who “thanks to his skills allowed us to now have the first luxury goods brand in the world” during the matriculation ceremony of the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence training program on Thursday.
The initiative, which launched in 2014, has grown from 28 students at its inception to 300 matriculating this year.
“What creates desire is product, and creation would not exist without the skills of the craftspeople who are behind the success of our houses,” said Chantal Gaemperle, LVMH’s group executive vice president, human resources and synergies.
Gaemperle insisted on the program’s focus on “work-training to practical, tangible, certifying, free and paid educational tracks” to “encourage employability” and also underlined the need for “training strategies to promote learning throughout one’s career,” to address the evolving needs of employees called upon to work longer. She found satisfaction in seeing apprenticeship restored to its former sterling reputation, she later added.
Among the new educational tracks offered this year, which now range from the CAP to master’s degrees, are a leathermaking course with Florence’s Polimoda design school, one in goldsmithing at

Bulgari Celebrates Serpenti Forever Pillar With New Styles

SERPENT’S TALE: Having introduced its new Divas’ Dream handbag aimed at Millennials last season, Bulgari turned the spotlight back to its Serpenti Forever pillar for spring.
Launched in 2011, the snakehead-clasp design has won over celebrities including Kate Moss and Miranda Kerr. This season, it got a makeover from London-based designer Nicholas Kirkwood, who created the line’s first-ever backpack style.
The Rome-based brand celebrated the collaboration with a party attended by Bella Hadid, Lottie Moss and Jasmine Sanders. It hopes to bring on a new guest designer every two or three seasons, according to Mireia Lopez Montoya, managing director of accessories at Bulgari.
“Since quite a few years, we have been attracting younger and younger customers into the brand. Actually, our average age is early 30s,” she noted. “Our inspiration is to really keep Serpenti Forever young and relevant as part of our intention to make this bag our iconic bag for the longer term.”
Among the new options this season is the Pop Heart design, featuring metal studs and arrows. For a seriously upscale alternative, look no further than the python leather versions painted in rainbow hues – each one is guaranteed one-of-a-kind.

Donald Robertson Celebrates New Book, “Donald”, in London

AMERICAN HUSTLE: “Somebody told me tonight that this book is just a very expensive business card,” joked Donald Robertson, signing copies of his book, “Donald – The Book,” at its launch at Maison Assouline on Piccadilly in London Friday night. “And it really is, it’s got all my stuff in it so I don’t even need to hustle [for work] so much anymore.”
Robertson — Estée Lauder’s creative director who is famous for his handpainted handbags and his Instagram account, Drawbertson, where he posts images of his fashion-centric artworks to over 190,000 followers — came to the book deal with Assouline through less-than orthodox means.
“I was at Bergdorf’s, standing there painting on bags, and I was, like, ‘I want a book cover; I want a book [deal]. I’m just going to paint on the Valentino book.’ So I just started painting on the covers, put my name on it, but it said Valentino on the side, so I put the hashtag, ‘Kiss My Assouline’. Totally without permission and I was selling them for about $ 2,800 on the shop floor.”

Sean Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Addition of New Collection

Sean Cassidy was on vacation in Paris when he discovered Emilie Lafaurie’s men’s wear collection and became enamored with the line’s updated traditional designs.
That chance meeting led to Cassidy tossing aside a career in children’s book marketing to become the exclusive distributor of Lafaurie’s collection in the U.S. through his own stores.
This September, Cassidy will mark the 20th anniversary of Sean, a three-unit men’s specialty store business that carries only Lafaurie’s designs. And to celebrate the milestone, the two are teaming to introduce Beau, a special capsule designed by Lafaurie to appeal to the Millennial man.
“I really don’t like the term ‘Millennial,’” Cassidy said, “but we’re targeting the guy who is just getting on his feet.”
Beau will consist of 40 pieces including suit separates, shirts and sweaters that can be mixed and matched to allow younger guys to look professional and polished but still contemporary. The collection is manufactured in Europe, primarily France, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and Germany.
Prices will range from $ 98 to $ 118 for shirts, $ 88 to $ 128 for sweaters, $ 98 to $ 128 for casual pants and $ 395 to $ 435 for suits. The average price for a Emilie Lafaurie suit is $ 600.

Couple Celebrates The Arrival Of Their Baby Girl With The Sweetest Shoot

You don’t need to have a baby on the way to do one of those trendy “gender reveal” photo shoots.

Missouri couple Kennedy Sartwell and her boyfriend of five years Jake Terry decided to celebrate the arrival of their pup Raven in April with a super cute photo shoot inspired by the ones moms- and dads-to-be often do to announce the sex of their babies.

The couple filled a box with pink balloons to introduce their baby girl, and then snapped some pics with the most photogenic little face you ever did see.

“I’ve been looking for a puppy for quite a while and I’ve been wanting some way to announce it to the world,” Kennedy told ABC News. “Mom and I were coming up with ideas and thought of a [gender] reveal.”

Initially, the photos were just supposed to be just for the couple’s friends and family to enjoy. But after Kennedy’s mom, Cristy Sartwell of Infinite Smiles Photography, posted them on Facebook, they went viral with more than 100,000 likes and 160,000 shares.

Kennedy told Inside Edition that Raven, a Labrador-German shepherd mix, got a little fussy while getting her picture taken and kept getting distracted by dandelions.

“We had to chase her for the entire photo shoot,” she said.

But the fur-tastic photos made it all worthwhile:

Celine Dion Celebrates 20th Anniversary Of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ With Billboard Award Performance

Celine Dion looked and sounded like an angel ― complete with massive wings ― at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night as she performed her smash hit “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic” nearly 20 years after the film’s release.

Dion, who wore a plunging white gown with huge sleeves, sang the ballad while a montage of scenes from the Oscar-winning movie, released in December 1997, played in the background.

“This song means a lot to me, and it has played such a huge role in my career,” Dion said in a statement when it was announced earlier this month that she would perform the song at the awards. “I’m so grateful to the late James Horner, and to Will Jennings, for writing it and creating the opportunity for me to be part of ‘Titanic,’ an amazing film whose legacy will continue for generations to come.”

M. Dumas Celebrates a Century in Charleston

There’s a party going on in Charleston, S.C.
This year, M. Dumas & Sons is celebrating its 100th anniversary — a milestone for any retailer, let alone a third-generation family-owned one — and on Thursday, the men’s specialty store will close down Society Street for a block party and fashion presentation that will showcase a century of M. Dumas style.
When the store opened in 1917, it was a uniform purveyor for service jobs and is credited with introducing Levi’s jeans to the Charleston market.
During the Korean and Vietnam wars, it was the sole provider of uniforms for naval officers stationed in Charleston and also offered a large selection of hunting and outdoor apparel, as well as shotguns and fishing poles.
By the Sixties, the business transitioned into more traditional men’s wear and over the years it has introduced brands such as Tommy Bahama, Sperry, Woolrich, CC Filson, Barbour, Duck Head and Southern Tide to the Charleston market.
Owned today by David Dumas, the grandson of founder Mendel Dumas, the store carries tailored clothing and sportswear from brands such as Hickey Freeman, Samuelsohn, Jack Victor, Eton, Rodd & Gunn, Faherty, Vince, Paul & Shark, Bonobos, Ledbury, Filson and Johnnie-O.

Pantene’s New Campaign Celebrates The Magic Of Black Hair

Pantene is celebrating black hair in a new social media campaign that lets women with natural hair know that #StrongIsBeautiful.

On Thursday, Pantene launched a new line of hair-care products called Pantene Gold, designed to cater to African-American women. In the ad for the new line, above, black models of all ages rock beautiful natural hairdos pose as a narrator recites a poem about black hair, declaring:

“So many wrong things are said, about how it grows from our head. But to think that beauty is only sleek and wavy is crazy.”

The ad is the first nationwide commercial for Pantene’s Gold Series, and features women with relaxed, braided, natural, and loc’d hair.

“Because whether we choose to wear it relaxed or natural,” the ad concludes, “Every strand is testimony to our history. That makes us stronger.”

Fashion East’s Matty Bovan Celebrates Barbie Collaboration

BIRTHDAY GIRL: Up-and-coming British designer Matty Bovan has been focusing his efforts to dressing a very special celebrity client for her birthday celebration this month: Barbie.
Mattel tapped the young designer to create outfits for the famous doll, as well as an accompanying film, to mark the 58th anniversary of the launch of Barbie.
Bovan unveiled the results of the collaboration at Mayfair’s The Women’s Space, to an intimate crowd of family and friends which included the designers Stephen Jones, Charles Jeffrey and Ryan Lo.
Bovan painted Barbie’s face with the bright, glitter eye shadows he favors for himself and dressed her in pieces from his spring 2017 collection, from chunky pink knitted sweaters, to crystal-embellished tasseled skirts and a velvet green printed dress.
“I’ve loved Barbie since childhood because for me it provided a blank canvas to be creative, plus Barbie is such a recognizable brand, so it was an immediate yes for me when Mattel got in touch,” Bovan said.
Guests gathered around the Barbies all smiles, taking pictures on their phones. Jones couldn’t resist taking a white rose and placing it upside down on one of the dolls’ heads as a hat. “Do you approve?” he asked Bovan.

Halle Berry Celebrates Her Natural Hair At The Oscars

Halle Berry looked seriously stunning at the Oscars on Sunday night, and Twitter couldn’t help but notice her hair.

The star made her Oscars return with a new hairstyle, trading in her pixie cut and long waves for a curly, natural look. Her hair became a trending topic on Twitter, with trolls comparing her to Rachel Dolezal and expressing sympathy for people sitting behind her, according to Refinery29.

But Berry has no time or interest for the haters.

“I have always marched to the beat to my own drum, and I think this red-carpet look encapsulates that,” Berry, who wore Atelier Versace for the main event, told Vogue. “The dress is glamorous with a sense of romance that made me feel feminine and fresh. With this look, I celebrate my natural hair by allowing it to be wild and free.”

Her longtime hairstylist Castillo used the star’s natural texture as a base and detailed the look with a curling iron.

“I would say I cut off at least 5 inches. It created a whole new shape,” he told InStyle. “It’s definitely a new look for her—we went for a very natural, curly, powerful asymmetrical ‘fro. This is something she’e never done before and it’s just ridiculous how good she looks.”

Homegirl Box Celebrates Spirit Of Sisterhood, Radical Women And Self-Love

For HuffPost’s #LoveTakesAction series, we’re telling stories of how people are standing up to hate and supporting those most threatened now. Tell us what you stand up for, with #LoveTakesAction.

Part of the perks of being a woman of color are the unique bonds we form with one another.

As a homage to these sisterhoods, Brooklynites, social activists and best friends Mickey Ferrera and Brittany Brathwaite created The Homegirl Box. The quarterly gift box contains items inspired by revolutionary women of color like Frida Kahlo and Assata Shakur. Each box includes four to five clothing, beauty, decorative, health and wellness or home items as well as a staple herstory card which informs on the legacy of the historic women who inspired the box.

The box was created not only as a means of celebrating iconic women, but also as a means for women to remind their friends ― or themselves ― of their power and purpose.

“The love that homegirls show for each other and realness of how they show up is what we wanted to invoke with the naming of this box,” the co-founders told The Huffington Post.

“It’s a proclamation to homegirls – women who never called what they were doing (i.e sending flowers to someone’s job or making sure someone is fed, checking in and sending affirmation of worth) sisterhood but it is ― and it’s radical and transformative.”

But the co-founders said the box serves more than one purpose.

“[It’s meant to] to celebrate and acknowledge women business owners,” they continued. (All of the box’s items are from businesses owned by women).

“To tell other women in your life: I see all of you and I want you to stay fueled and ready for the revolution –whether that revolution is internal or fighting the racist heteronormative patriarchy or whatever; to help you get or stay inspired for the revolution,” they said.

The inaugural Homegirl Box was named The Frida Box in honor of the legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It debuted as part of their soft launch in December and sold out in 24 hours.

“We started with Frida because we thought it was important to re-write and re-shape how she was being portrayed. The unibrow-less Frida who wears Daft Punk shirts and flower crowns isn’t the Frida that we know – [she is] a radical and political activist who transformed her illness and physical disability into art that begged to be seen and felt,” they said.

“Frida painted herself because she didn’t see herself reflected, she made space for herself in a male-dominated industry [and] she loved hard.”

While Brathwaite and Ferrera acknowledged that love in itself isn’t the answer to all of society’s ailments, they do believe there is “space for radical love, radical hope, and joy” ― with an emphasis on black joy — in the resistance movement

“We both know from our experience as organizers, youth workers, movement builders, and trap scholars that keeping ourselves and our sisters fueled must be part of our work,” they said.

Women carry much of the work in visioning and creating revolution and yet, who is looking out for us? Who is making sure we are fed and that we can cover rent? Who has our backs? Our Homegirls.”

The Homegirl Box officially launches on March 3rd. Their next box will be dedicated to civil rights activist Assata Shakur

Philip Glass Celebrates 80 with a World Premiere at Carnegie Hall

2017-01-25-1485354471-2335280-philipglassphotobystevepyke_0.jpg

By Christopher Johnson, ZEALnyc Contributing Writer, January 25, 2017

He’s been our go-to “ascendant modernist” for so long that it’s easy to forget that Philip Glass ages just like the rest of us, and thus it may come as a shock to learn that he celebrates his eightieth birthday on January 31. As if to strain credulity even further, Glass will mark the occasion with a concert at Carnegie Hall featuring two premières–the world première of his Symphony No. 11 and the New York première of Ifé: Three Yorùbá Songs, his collaboration with the great Beninese singer-songwriter and activist Angélique Kidjo–along with Days and Nights in Rocinha, his luscious tribute to Rio de Janeiro and its samba school, all of it dished up by his longtime collaborators Dennis Russell Davies and the Bruckner Orchester Linz. Glass may not be quite as prolific as Haydn, but give him time–as of this writing, he’s still only seventy-nine.

The concert anchors a year of notable performances and events encompassing every facet of Glass’s career–opera, chamber music, orchestral music, dance, theatre works–including a three-day festival at London’s Barbican, a ten-day celebration at Carolina Performing Arts, and “Philip @ 80,” a year-long series of programs at National Sawdust, beginning on February 24 with Maki Namekawa’s performance of the complete Piano Etudes. It also marks the beginning of the venerable Bruckner Orchester‘s first American tour since 2009, following the opening of their spectacular new music theatre.

The new symphony, Glass told us in an interview to be published shortly, celebrates “a relationship that any composer would envy,” with an orchestra that’s heard or done all his symphonies, and that he has come to know intimately. There’s no program or story, he says, but the piece is couched in a “late-period style” related to his “more political” operas Appomatox and The Trial. It’s more contrapuntal than his other symphonies and enriched by the full capabilities of the modern orchestra, including the contrabass clarinet and Linz’s eight percussionists. The Linz players, Glass says, welcomed an extra session where Glass tried “things I’d done with my own ensemble that I hadn’t done with an orchestra,” and the result was fed into the symphony. “How great is that?” he asks.

Ifé, based on three Yorùbá songs about the creation of the world (click here for an excerpt), is the fruit of a close and happy collaboration between Glass and Grammy-winner Angélique Kidjo–a relationship that, for Glass, “built a bridge that no one has walked on before.” For Kidjo, Glass’s music is “hypnotic and creates a kind of trance, like our traditional music. Also it feels like a living organism that is developing over time. A wonderful feeling: You’re witnessing life being created.” “She’s a wonderful performer,” Glass replies, “and I’m really pleased that we’ll get to do it at Carnegie Hall.” Ifé, in turn, is closely related to Days and Nights in Rocinha: Yorùbá culture had a huge impact on Brazil, Glass notes, so the two pieces, in many ways, come from the same place.

Should be quite a party.

Lamar Odom Celebrates the New Year with Kids By His Side in First Instagram Post Since Entering Rehab

Lamar Odom is ending 2016 on the right note.

The former NBA star checked himself into a 30-day rehab program earlier this month to address the demons that led to his near-fatal overdose. And while he reportedly intends to be there when the ball drops, it appears he spent some time during the final hours of the year with the ones he loves most.

Odom, 37, posted a photo of him and two of his kids, Destiny Odom and Lamar Odom Jr., to Instagram Saturday morning — the three of them smiling in the sweet family photo.

“No better way to end 2016 than with my two favorite people,” he wrote, hashtagging the shot “#TheOdoms” and “#RichSoil.”

It was Lamar’s first Instagram post in nearly seven months.

In October 2015, Odom suffered a near-fatal overdose and was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel. PEOPLE confirmed that cocaine and opiates were in his system when he was admitted for emergency treatment and lapsed into a four-day coma at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.

Months later, in the summer of 2016, he was often spotted out at bars and strip clubs while spending time back home in New York City.

He’d been keeping a low profile since then, returning to Los Angeles this fall. The move was a positive choice for Odom, according to sources who told PEOPLE it was “a great thing” for him to be away “from the negative influences in New York.”

Also a positive choice? Checking into the substance abuse program — something another insider told PEOPLE was Lamar’s choice.

“This is a precautionary measure,” the source said, explaining that Odom was clean and not abusing drugs when he went in.

While in rehab, Odom’s protracted divorce from estranged ex-wife Khloé Kardashian, 32, was finalized. The couple tied the knot on national TV in September 2009, but the marriage fell apart after Odom’s cheating scandal and drug relapse.

Kardashian first filed for divorce in 2013. The stars finally both signed divorce papers in July 2015 — but a few months later, Kardashian called off their divorce following Odom’s overdose. She reinitiated divorce proceedings in May.

“He wants to stay clear and focused,” the source added. “With the divorce from Khloé being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up. He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better. His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision.”

“’s being very adult and mature and just wants to be a great father and brother, a better friend,” another source told PEOPLE. “The goal is for him to be inside during Christmas and New Years. Crazy things happen during those times. There’s been amazing reports from the doctors thus far. He’s doing extraordinary well, he’s in great spirits.”

In January, Odom is expected to appear on The Doctors for his first sit-down interview since rehab. No air date for the program has been set yet.

A source also told PEOPLE that the star is also planning on filming a reality show about his road to recovery.

Rochas Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary

NINETY CANDLES: To help celebrate its 90th anniversary this year, Rochas hosted an exhibition including vintage fashion, fragrance and advertising and a party on Wednesday in its soon-to-be-open new headquarters at 1 Rond-Point du Champs-Élysées in Paris.
“It all goes with the global intention of the brand to really push it forward and to make it much more visible,” said Stéphane Lemonnier, fashion and accessories director at Rochas.
On display were some pieces by Marcel Rochas, the label’s namesake designer, as well as creations by Peter O’Brien, Olivier Theyskens, Marco Zanini and Alessandro Dell’Acqua.
One room specifically devoted to fashion included 28 looks — dresses, pantsuits and even pajamas — shown alongside accessories and perfume. Especially in keeping with the birthday theme were a few pieces bedecked with swallow imagery from Rochas’ fall 2015 show, which marked the label’s 90 years with the print inspired by the house’s 1934 collection.
Lining the walls next door were copies of ads dating back to Rochas’ start. Kicking that off was an image from 1925, a black-and-white drawing depicting the entryway to Rochas’ headquarters framed by two fir trees.
There was also the 1936 campaign for Les Parfums Marcel Rochas framed with a colored rectangle, which originally appeared on

Reda Mill Celebrates 150 Years

Reda has been producing luxury fabrics in Biella, Italy, since 1865. Now the company is on a worldwide journey to mark its 150th anniversary. That journey started with an event in Milan in February, followed by one in London and then New York. It will continue to Berlin in November.

To commemorate the milestone, Reda partnered with The Woolmark Co. on a multisensory exhibit showcasing the process that takes merino wool from raw fiber to finished fabric. Jessica Simpson Brand Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

A decade in, Jessica Simpson’s label has evolved into a $ 1 billion lifestyle brand at retail, and the company has aspirations to double — or even triple — volume in the next 10 years.
Part of the route to this lofty goal includes new product lines, such as activewear and another fragrance developed especially for the decade milestone. Yehuda Shmidman, chief executive officer of Sequential Brands Group, which acquired a majority interest in the Jessica Simpson brand in April, pointed to several avenues of growth potential for the label.
“There’s growth outside America,” he said. “We’ve already had interest from several parties [for freestanding stores]. We also see certain pillar categories for the brand, such as activewear. And there are some other channels for growth, such as e-commerce and mobile commerce. We’re looking at all different ways to get the product into the hands of her customers.”
While the business has an extensive wholesale component, the e-commerce and mobile platforms need to be built. As for international options, the company hopes to capitalize on footwear’s distribution base in 55 countries. Sequential is considering markets in which it should enter or expand, and the right operating partners for various regions. Shmidman said interest has

Margot Robbie Celebrates Her Birthday As Harley Quinn On The Set Of ‘Suicide Squad’

The most surprising thing about Margot Robbie’s birthday cake on the set of “Suicide Squad” is that it actually looks edible.

The cast of the movie has been known to give each other peculiar gifts, such as the rat that Jared Leto previously sent to Robbie that was then “adopted” by other celebs, but that wasn’t the case for the actress’s birthday celebration.

Robbie, who just had a birthday July 2, shared a photo of her in Harley Quinn makeup with a caption reading, “Harley’s cake – thank you squad!”

News recently broke that movie director David Ayer has an on-set therapist for the cast since the actors have to work with pretty dark material. So, at least in the case of Robbie, it looks like it’s working. The actress also shared a photo of balloons on her actual b-day, saying that she was “Spoilt rotten today”:

“I used to sneak into the Apollo when I was in high school,” Calloway said. “I was in [New] Jersey, my parents didn’t know I was here, but I used to watch Amateur Night so I’m very happy to be on this stage. And I started my career here. The first time I was on this stage was ‘106 & Park’ and that was 15 years ago. So I’m really, really happy to be here.”

In addition to Calloway’s return to the Apollo stage, the event also served as a homecoming for Rodgers, who landed his second professional gig performing with the theater’s house band. Prior to taking to the stage to perform a medley of Chic’s biggest hits, Rodgers opened up to The Huffington Post about the significance of headlining this year’s annual gala.

“When I played here I was 19-years-old,” Rodgers said. “I had just finished a year with ‘Sesame Street,’ which was my first professional job. And I was just telling the band how it was the first time I walked out onto this stage. It’s amazing for me to be here now, all these years later playing my own music, which is crazy.”

For Apollo Theater President & CEO, Jonelle Procope the Gala has served as an important part in the theater’s growth for the past 10 years.

“Although the Apollo is now in its 81st year, we have only been a nonprofit since 1991 and I would say it has really been over the last 10 years that the institution has experienced tremendous growth as a nonprofit with expanded artistic, educational and community programs,” Procope said to the Huffington Post.

“The Gala, which is one of our largest fundraisers, has provided crucial support toward those initiatives. It also allows us to celebrate and honor the Apollo’s rich legacy as the musical home for so many legendary artists like Nile Rodgers and the opportunity to continue that legacy as an important springboard for the next generation of artists.”

The benefit, which raises funds for the theater’s education and community outreach programs, also honored James Dolan, President and CEO of Cablevision Systems Corporation and Executive Chairman of Madison Square Garden, who accepted the Corporate Award on behalf of The Madison Square Garden Company, and Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, who accepted the Percy C. Sutton Civic Leadership Award on behalf of The Ford Foundation.

Why #UnconventionalBlackBeauty Celebrates People Like Me

2015-06-03-1433373855-526594-lupita.jpg

Originally posted on Philly.com for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Before laying my head to rest last night, Black Twitter blessed me with something magical. Scrolling through my timeline, I noticed the hashtag #unconventionalblackbeauty, featuring photos of beautiful black faces. Not much different from #blackoutday, an online movement that celebrated black beauty, right?

Wrong.

The difference here was this was an honest discourse about how we define beauty within the black community. And I was so here for it.

In less than 24 hours, the hashtag has received a cosign from artist Talib Kweli and timelines exploded with photos of women and men with full lips, broad noses and kinky hair posing with pride. Because truthfully and ironically, a lot of times when we praise black beauty, we celebrate the features closest to Eurocentric ones.

I found myself getting emotional as someone who struggled with finding beauty in her full lips, kinky hair and broad nose. Once I found the young woman behind the hashtag, I had to call her.

2015-06-03-1433372929-2284588-NIA.jpg
Nia Evans

Seventeen-year-old Nia Evans, picture above, who just graduated from Bowie High School in Bowie, Md., last week co-created the hashtag with “How It Feels to Be A Black Girl” creator Jada Mosely.

Jada Mosely

#Unconventionalblackbeauty began after a rant Evans had about how black women are represented in the media, and what types of people are celebrated in the black community.

“I wanted this movement to show the girls who don’t get all the Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter likes,” said Evans, who told me her “unconventional beauty” attribute was her tightly coiled 4C natural hair.

She says, if you’re aware you already are the standard of beauty, support, but don’t post.

In other words, she says, “If you know you won’t find yourself in a magazine, this is for you.”

I’ve been waiting for this since I angrily barged into my dad’s car at 10-years-old after school one day and told him I was ugly. That my nose and lips were “too big.”

My brilliant father said something I’ll never forget. “Too big compared to who? To who or what are you comparing yourself? You ever thought that maybe their lips and nose were too small?”

And it was then that middle-school-me realized that my entire concept of beauty was on a Eurocentric scale.

In the black community, we often celebrate those who are Afrocentric as long as they don’t look “too African.” The funny thing about the hashtag #unconventionalblackbeauty is that most photos were pretty conventional. But partnering these pictures with the word “beauty” has made them unconventional. For so long, black was made to conform, whether physically, mentally or spiritually. But being unapologetically black or when your facial features go against “the norm” has been, in many ways, “unconventional.”

Africa has produced some of the most diverse beauty the world has ever seen and that is fact. Our shades and phenotypes are not homogeneous. The width of a person’s nose and the deepness of skin tone do not dictate the depth of Africanness.

And yet, when we talk black beauty, we tend to exalt the Imans, Jessica Whites and Beyonces.

Lupita N’Yongo and Alek Wek would be considered unconventional black beauties and are deemed “exotic” because of it.

If you’re skin is deep, beauty is only achieved if your nose is pin straight or minuscule. Or you should have “good hair.”

It’s okay if your nose is wide as long as you have light skin and light eyes.

My sister and I would swing from one beauty icon to another, mixing and matching their features until we convinced ourselves we were visible. We clinged to the image of Rihanna because she was one of the few mainstream artists we knew with a somewhat broad nose who was considered sexy and beautiful and didn’t go under the knife to reconstruct it, even though she has light skin and light eyes. Add Keke Palmer’s skin tone, though she wore her hair straight and ours was kinky. Add Angela Bassett’s cheekbones, though her nose is a bit narrower than ours. Erykah Badu’s hair, though she, too, has light skin and light eyes. And Jill Marie Jones’ full lips, though she has a button nose. Voila! There we were.

Women with deeper skin tones would often lament that people would say, “Oh you have such beautiful skin!” But would never said that they, innately, were beautiful.

When we exalt natural hair, what kind of hair textures do we showcase?

#Unconventionalblackbeauty also acknowledges how we define black beauty when it comes to our bodies. Not every “black queen” has a figure-eight, big booty, full chest and thick thighs. Honestly, most have two/three out of four. And others are beautifully slender.

My black British friends were surprised when they came to the United States to find that black Americans looked like them. They expected to see Beyonces, Keri Hilsons and Jesse Williams roaming the streets of Philadelphia.

My mom often painfully recollects my grandmother instructing her to hold a clothespin on her nose in attempts to narrow it. This pain runs deep and is symptomatic of hundreds years of slavery, colonialism and menticide.

I love my “Serena Williams, Garcelle Beauvais, Gabrielle Union, Tika Sumpter, Viola Davis, Kimberly Elise” beauty.

The round curves of my face are soft, warm and welcoming.

It took me a long time to learn that these features weren’t born out of inferiority, but are a product of a powerful and noble lineage. I still grapple with it sometimes because it’s one thing to know it, understand it, and celebrate it. But it’s another to believe it.

Newport Folk Festival Celebrates 50 Years Since Bob Dylan Went Electric

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — This year’s Newport Folk Festival plans to pay tribute to the moment when Bob Dylan made rock history by going electric 50 years ago.

The festival, noted for introducing performers who later became big stars, will have a secret lineup of musicians billed as ’65 Revisited. Festival producer Jay Sweet said on Tuesday that nearly a dozen contemporary musicians are included in an “all-star lineup,” but the audience won’t know who they are until they take the stage to close the festival with a “massive” set celebrating Dylan’s 1965 performance.

Dylan first appeared at Newport as a guest of Joan Baez in 1963. His three-song electric set two years later — including “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Maggie’s Farm” — is widely viewed as one of the most pivotal moments in rock ‘n’ roll history. It marked Dylan’s break with the folk movement and spurred others to go electric as well.

The Fender Stratocaster guitar Dylan played in the performance sold at auction in 2013 for nearly $ 1 million, the highest price paid for a guitar at auction.

Dylan is not playing at this year’s festival, although Sweet said he’s invited to play every year. If there’s any year Dylan wouldn’t come, it’s Sweet’s guess it would probably be this one.

“Having him back would be the least Newport way to celebrate it,” he said.

Dylan last played Newport in 2002.

“Trying to recreate that moment is a fool’s errand,” Sweet said. “We’re about the future, not about reliving the past.”

But Sweet said without that moment, when Dylan struck out a new path for music, the Newport Folk Festival probably would not be celebrating its 56th anniversary this year.

“Every once in a while, you have to acknowledge, that allowed us to be here,” he said.

The festival runs July 24-26. Tickets are sold out for the last two days, but a few are available for the first day. Other headliners include Roger Waters and The Decemberists.

Bloomingdale’s Celebrates Style Icons in Los Angeles

LA LA LAND: After a brutal winter on the East Coast, Bloomingdale’s executives enjoyed a stylish spring break in Los Angeles. Following last fall’s style icons-themed marketing campaign that featured seven New Yorkers — including Eidos creative director Antonio Ciongoli and restaurateur Michael Chernow, as well as commentary by blogger Michael Williams from A Continuous Lean — the executives celebrated the digital initiative’s L.A. edition on Thursday night with Departures magazine.
“I always appreciated L.A. style, especially casual sportswear,” said Kevin Harter, vice president for men’s fashion direction at Bloomingdale’s. “Guys out here have a good take on individual style. We came in and did some research and found seven guys that were diverse, with different ages and different looks.”
Those diverse men included Toms founder Blake Mycoskie, art curator Franklin Sirmans, stylist Johnny Wujek, actor Manish Dayal, chef Roy Choi, eyewear designer Garrett Leight and TV production head Tom Leach.
After a shopping event at the Bloomingdale’s store in Beverly Center, where Nylon magazine cofounders Marvin and Jaclynn Jarrett dropped by, the party moved to the Palm restaurant in Beverly Hills. Still, the icons didn’t rest on their laurels. Wujek took a break from prepping Katy Perry’s wardrobe for her forthcoming concert

Frick Collection’s Young Fellows Ball Celebrates Don Quixote Exhibit

The invitation read “Don quixotic black tie,” and whether that was a typo or an intentional blending of noun and adjective, the women who arrived at The Frick Collection’s Young Fellows Ball on Thursday were decked out in flamenco ruffles and matador-inspired outfits. The theme, “A Dance at the Spanish Court,” took inspiration from the museum’s special exhibition Coypel’s Don Quixote Tapestries: Illustrating a Spanish Novel in Eighteenth-Century France. Many were dressed by Lanvin, the evening’s sponsor, including chairmen Lydia Fenet Delaney, Elizabeth Kurpis, and Amory McAndrew. “I always love the Frick [gala], seeing what everyone’s wearing. People really dress for the theme, unlike many other parties,” Delaney said. “The setting lends itself to being really dramatically dressed,” McAndrew piped in. Adding to the drama—or the Instagram fodder at least—were customized fans emblazoned with “Lanvin [hearts] the Frick” in gold cursive. Guests playfully hid behind the accessory for photographers circling, and, later in the night, to add a little extra flair to their dance moves.

Nicky Haslam Celebrates New Book

CHEERS FOR NICKY: On a cold night in New York City, Lee Radziwill, regal, resilient, impeccably coiffured, was keeping warm in a corner of La Grenouille. She cut through an intimate space heaving with a distinguished crowd — Carolina and Reinaldo Herrera, Mercedes Bass, Mica Ertegun, Mark Lyall Grant, the British ambassador to the United Nations — to reach her destination, right by the side of Nicky Haslam. The interior designer has just published another coffee-table book — a collection of reminisces, clippings and sketches titled “A Designer’s Life” — and so it was time again for another gathering of his long-devoted fan club, New York chapter.
The leader of this cheering squad is, indisputably, Radziwill.
“He’s terribly witty, terribly well-read,” she said, sounding like she could have gone on for a lot longer. They first met in London and Haslam later stayed at her home in Sicily during the summers, one of several memories he revisits in a book covering 75 years of his life.
Radziwill herself couldn’t remember where or when they first met, though she does recall those Italian summers, but it was clear that the reason for their long friendship is a mutual admiration for each other. “He’s stayed
