Candice Swanepoel Signs With Creative Artists Agency

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: Candice Swanepoel has new representation.
The Victoria’s Secret model and founder of swimwear brand Tropic of C has signed on with Creative Artists Agency for representation in all areas.
Swanepoel will continue to be managed by Marlon Stoltzman. She’s been on Forbes’ “Highest-Paid Models” list every year since 2010, and although she’s best known for her work as an Angel, Swanepoel has appeared in campaigns and on runways for Chanel, Fendi, Tom Ford, Givenchy and many more.
Last year was a big one for the South African model. She became a mother of two, after giving birth to her second child in June; launched Tropic of C, and put her Village Green penthouse condominium up for sale in April — with a price tag of $ 1.89 million.
When speaking to WWD about her swimwear company in 2018, she explained that the throwback feel of Tropic of C makes her suits stand out.
“We bring a modern approach to vintage classics and a mix of European elegance with Brazilian ease,” Swanepoel said. “We focus on distinct fits — it features a high-cut leg, some corset-type tops and references to the Eighties and Nineties.”

EXCLUSIVE: Louis Wong Named Creative Director of Editions M.R

PARIS — Parisian men’s wear label Editions M.R has chosen Louis Wong as its first official creative director.
The French designer, who is best known for his work at A.P.C., joined the ready-to-wear company in March, and will present his first collection for the brand during Paris Fashion Week: Men’s in June.
“When Louis and I met, I immediately felt we shared this common sensibility,” said Mathieu de Ménonville, who cofounded Editions M.R in 2010 (formerly named Melinda Gloss.) “I’m hoping his creative direction will lead to developing more fabrics and styles, but will also add a touch of eccentricity and bring a fresh outlook to the brand.”
After a stint at Louis Vuitton’s men’s studio working under Marc Jacobs, Wong, 42, spent 15 years at A.P.C., collaborating with Jean Touitou on the men’s and women’s lines. In 2011, the French designer launched his own men’s line at A.P.C., named Louis W.
“I am fond of the ultraclassic French aesthetic that Mathieu embodies,” said Wong. “And I like the relaxed feel, the refined proportions. The idea is to push a radical but subtle eccentricity while staying true to the roots of Editions M.R.”
Collections were designed in-house prior to Wong’s nomination. In the brand’s early

Designers Apartment Ups Creative Quotient

GROWING UP TOGETHER: From labels such as Dawai, Mazarine and Savoar Fer, all now featuring on the official schedule, to newcomers including Ester Manas and Marianna Landryet, the selection at Designers Apartment exudes a burst of creativity this season.
Presenting upstairs at the Palais de Tokyo until March 5, the current edition of the accelerator created by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode — which provides support for its protégés for three years on average — features 13 France-based designers, including four newcomers.
Among the new concepts on show, Ester Manas, created by La Cambre graduates Ester Manas and Balthazar Delepierre, offers a creative and sustainable solution to one-size-fits-all fashion.
The young label’s first collection includes ruched jersey tops and pants and skirts with integrated belts that adapt to the body, intended to accompany the wearer through life. The design duo works with the Mulieris workshop in Belgium, which helps to reintegrate former prisoners into the workforce, and uses fabrics from the South of France.
French-Cypriot Marianna Landryet, a 2017 Hyères finalist, has been creating bags for a couple of seasons and presented her first ready-to-wear, inspired by castaways and with the toga as her starting point. Highlights in the

N.Hoolywood’s Creative Casting Sets Tone for Collections

TOKYO — Over the past several seasons, N.Hoolywood has become a staple on the New York Fashion Week: Men’s calendar, and it’s not only for its stylish collection. The brand is well-known for street-casting the models who walk in the show, and often the models draw nearly as much buzz as the clothes themselves.
“After the show ends, there are people from casting companies and modeling agencies waiting outside every time,” said N.Hoolywood’s designer Daisuke Obana. “Some models have even hit it big after walking in our show.”
Obana started his brand almost by accident. He had been working as a buyer for a popular vintage clothing store in Tokyo, making up to 10 buying trips to different parts of the U.S. every year. But after working in the vintage industry for about a decade, he noticed that the best items were getting harder and harder to find, and he started to question whether there was a future for him in his vocation.
“At that time there were a lot of things that were in terrible condition but had a good aura, or things that didn’t hold any value to most people but were still cool,” he said. “So I started to select and

Eidos Names Handis Creative Director

Simon Spurr may have moved on as the designer of Eidos, but one of his colleagues is stepping into the role.
Michael Handis has been named creative director of the brand, the younger-skewed collection from Isaia. He succeeds Spurr who left to join Seven For All Mankind as global creative director in January.
Handis, a designer, stylist and archivist, will oversee the collection and its image.
Handis worked alongside Spurr at Kent & Curwen, Tommy Hilfiger, and Simon Spurr Collections. He has also worked with David Lipman, Karl Templer, and Peter Lindbergh.
Gianluca Isaia, chief executive officer of Isaia and Eidos, said, “We are confident that the brand’s path and momentum will continue to build based upon the success that we have seen over the past year. Eidos offers an easibility and modern perspective that is on the pulse of how men are wearing tailored clothing at the moment — mixing an element of streetwear casual with tailoring.”
Handis pointed to Eidos’ aesthetic as among its strengths. “Brand narratives with depth and passion are coveted now more than ever. It is the moment to tell this brand’s unique story and share its pedigree of sartorial excellence. I look forward to connecting the Neapolitan tradition and lineage of the Isaia family with the modern, international spirit of Eidos.”

Virgil Abloh Joins Evian as ‘Creative Adviser’

PARIS — Virgil Abloh has added a new role to his CV: creative adviser for sustainable innovation design at Evian.
The founder of Off-White and creative director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s line is to help the mineral water company, owned by Danone, make its design process more sustainable.
“Evian is an iconic brand with a strong heritage in fashion and creativity,” the designer said in a statement. “Its sustainability ambitions align with my own. Together we can push boundaries and explore new areas of revolution, paving a better future for generations globally.”
The announcement comes as Evian steps toward its goal of becoming a 100 percent circular brand by 2025: By this date, the company aims for all its water bottles to be made out of recycled plastic.
According to the statement, Abloh will both help design Evian future products and “use his wide-scale platform to engage his audience and raise awareness around the importance of innovation in design and sustainability.”
Announcing the collaboration via its Instagram account, Evian playfully riffed on Abloh’s signature quotation marks: on a makeshift Evian business card, the designer’s name is followed by his new title, “Creative Adviser.”

Joseph Names New Creative Director, Chief Executive Officer

LONDON — Joseph has named Susana Clayton its new creative director, following Louise Trotter’s exit last July.
Clayton, a Givenchy and Chloé alumnus, will work across men’s and women’s wear; her first collection being for fall 2019.
The brand has simultaneously appointed a new chief executive officer, Barbara Campos, who joins Joseph from Marni, where she was global wholesale director.
“I look forward to embracing the brand’s origins and to realign it with Joseph Ettedgui’s vision, creating a balance between fashion and a timeless wardrobe of luxury essentials,” Clayton said of her appointment.
Her design career spans 20 years. Most recently she was design director of women’s wear at Givenchy, but she also has worked for the likes of Gap and Rag & Bone.
Campos, who will join the company on Nov. 1, said Clayton’s wide-ranging design experience is one of her greatest assets.
“[Susana] has an impressive background in luxury fashion teamed with an excellent commercial understanding of the business,” Campos added.
Campos succeeds the brand’s current ceo Hirosuke Takagi, who is moving to the newly created position of chairman.
Clayton’s hire continues the trend of brands tapping behind-the-scenes design directors to take over the creative reins at leading houses.

In this role, Donadi will steer and oversee all design and product development at the high-end denim line, including setting the creative tone and positioning of the New York-based brand.

GOODBYE, JOSEPH: Louise Trotter is leaving her post as creative director of Joseph after nine years. Her last collection for the British label will be pre-fall 2019, WWD has learned.
Hirosuke Takagi, chief executive officer of Joseph, said Trotter had decided to leave, having made “a significant contribution to the brand, in particular our international expansion, the launch of men’s wear and, most recently, accessories.” He added that the company was grateful “for her important contribution to Joseph and the foundation she has built for its continuous success.”
Trotter said her departure marks the end of an era. “Working for Joseph for the past nine years has been an incredible experience, and I feel very lucky to have been surrounded by such an amazing and talented team who worked alongside me with passion and creativity. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my team and the brilliant collaborators who have traveled on this journey with me.”

Ernest Sabine has just doubled his workload.
The designer and founder of the accessories brand Ernest Alexander has been named creative director of J.W. Hulme Co., a leather goods and canvas products brand that was founded in 1905. J.W. The Brothers Ovadia Seamlessly Blend Creative and Commerce

It was a chance meeting with Ralph Lauren at the Double RL store in East Hampton, N.Y., that forever changed the lives of Ariel and Shimon Ovadia.
The twins were browsing through the store one day when they spied the legendary designer. Although too shy to approach him, their stares caught Lauren’s attention. He asked them if they were “in the business,” and they said, “No, but we want to be.”
Lauren then spent the next hour telling the brothers his life story and how he had created his fashion empire.
Starstruck, the Ovadias decided a month later to start down the same path and launch their own brand.
In the seven years since, the brothers, now 35, have proven that the journey they started that day was the right one. Today, the Ovadia & Sons label is carried in Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and other upscale department and specialty stores in the U.S. They have collaborated with everyone from Levi’s, the Gap and J. Press to street artists and the estates of legendary figures such as Bruce Lee.
Next up is an expansion to eight countries along with an e-commerce relaunch and the entry into new categories such as swimwear

Jay Z Named Creative Director at Puma

Jay Z will have an executive position at Puma.
The artist and entrepreneur has joined the sports brand as creative director of basketball operations and will work on player signings, product design and marketing strategy.
The appointment came on the same day that Puma said it was relaunching its basketball division. It hosted an event in Brooklyn with former New York Knicks legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier, who was honored with a lifetime Puma contract.

This relaunch comes shortly after Puma signed Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley and Zhaire Smith to its basketball roster. Ayton is predicted to be the number-one pick at this Thursday’s NBA draft and Bagley’s deal is one of the biggest rookie shoe deals since Kevin Durant signed with Nike in 2007. Vince Carter was the last NBA player Puma endorsed in 1998.
In his new role, Jay Z will influence which players Puma works with in its basketball division and how the brand develops aesthetically. Roc Nation, Jay Z’s entertainment company, has worked with Puma before on different sneaker releases including Jay Z’s 4:44 Clyde sneaker that had a limited release at Kith, and Emory Jones’ two-shoe collaboration that was released last February.

Former GQ Staffer, Tech Start-up Founder and Creative Director to Unveil Seam

Justin Hruska, a sneaker collector with a background in tech, wasn’t satisfied with his online shopping experience. Oftentimes he would visit larger e-commerce sites and feel shortchanged because he knew he wasn’t seeing everything a brand had to offer, which meant he had to visit other sites to find what he was looking for.
“A lot of brands use wholesale for awareness and put their best-selling products on their own site,” said Hruska. “So the consumer has to jump through all these hoops before they can purchase a $ 300 sweatshirt. With Seam, we want to reimagine what that looks like.”
Seam is a men’s and women’s shopping app set to launch this summer that was cofounded by Hruska, the chief executive officer, and Jake Woolf, the editorial director. Nate Brown, who cofounded Studio Institute, a creative firm that’s worked with artists including Beyoncé and Jay Z on tour visuals, is a partner and a strategic adviser who worked helped design the app.

Dior Taps Jones as Creative Renewal Hits Men’s Wear

PARIS — The arrival of Kim Jones as artistic director of ready-to-wear and accessory collections at Dior Homme signals that leading luxury brands are reshuffling their decks to keep pace with the red-hot streetwear sector, industry observers said.
The surprise move marked the first big decision by Pietro Beccari since he took over as chairman and chief executive officer at Christian Dior Couture six weeks ago, after stints at Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

Creative Playground Launches to Help Companies With Branding, Production, Celebrity Influencers

NEW YORK — Dari Marder, Nicole Winnaman and Maria Dolgetta have joined forces to create a new branding and marketing agency, Creative Playground, aimed at fashion, entertainment, beauty and wellness industries.
Their alliance has been a long time in the making — though one that came together without any trace of a headhunter. On the October day in 2015 that Marder exited the Iconix Brand Group as global chief marketing officer, Winnaman, a public relations and communications specialist, was the first to contact her. “Nicole said, ‘This is the day I’ve been waiting for for years,’” Marder said with a laugh Tuesday.
The pair first met in 2008, when Winnaman pitched Britney Spears to Marder for a Candie’s campaign. After working together for two years, they stayed in touch and always tried to work together. “Maria and I always felt that Nicole was the closest to being just like us. She was a businesswoman, but a creative and a mom, who somehow found this great balance to raise these beautiful girls. She was just juggling it just like we were,” Marder said.
In their 20-plus years working together at Iconix, Marder and Dolgetta handled a portfolio with 30 brands which included Badgley Mischka,

Ciongoli to Exit Eidos as Creative Director

Antonio K. Ciongoli, cofounder and creative director of Eidos, the more fashion-forward division of Isaia, is leaving the brand after this season to launch his own collection.
Ciongoli, who has designed the collection for four-and-a-half years, will stay on through the end of this season and retain his equity stake in the label.
“Building Eidos has been a life-changing experience for me and I cannot thank Gianluca Isaia and Jim Shay [Isaia’s U.S. president] enough for the opportunity to do so,” he said. “While moving on from anything one cares about is difficult, I am optimistic about Eidos’ potential and I look forward to watching its future evolution,” Ciongoli said.
He declined to provide details about his next project at this point, saying he would unveil weekly updates via his Instagram account.
“In the last six years, I have seen the retail landscape change dramatically. The value in today’s market is the opportunity to connect directly with the people to whom our product speaks, and I’m interested in creating an immersive, content-driven platform that expands that dialogue.”

After Margiela’s  resignation, in 2009, Nitsche took over the creative direction of the brand. She joined Vetements in September 2016 but left when the company relocated to Zurich from Paris earlier this year.
“Ever since I met her in 1996, I have been impressed by her creative approach, starting from a clearly defined concept and then transforming that into products that accurately resonate with the customer,” said Brioni’s chief executive officer Fabrizio Malverdi. “Her point of view will allow the brand’s core values to prosper and yet inject a contemporary dialogue that will enable Brioni to evolve into the future.”

“Thanks to its long sartorial history, Brioni has the potential to redefine its position as a unique luxury brand,” said the designer. “The house’s philosophy is based on a pioneering approach to men’s wear. My aim is to reinforce and invigorate this longstanding tradition.”
François-Henri Pinault, chairman and ceo of parent Kering, added: “I am delighted to welcome Nina-Maria Nitsche to Brioni and within Kering. Nina-Maria has a very accurate understanding of the Brioni man

CFDA Awards Under New Creative Direction

The CFDA Awards will have a new look this year, thanks to a change in the creative teams that will work on the awards. After years of working with Laird + Partners, the CFDA has enlisted The Creative Group, Condé Nast to develop all of the print digital materials surrounding the event, including the invitations and the nominees’ videos.
“It’s always nice to try something different and freshen it up,” said Steven Kolb, president and chief executive officer of the CFDA, of the decision to work with The Creative Group over Laird + Partners. “We put out an RP and got a number of proposals and landed on The Creative Group.”
The invitation design, which features quotes from designers — “I don’t design clothes. I design dreams,” Ralph Lauren; “We need leaders,” Public School — in graphic, colorful blocks, will also be distributed as a poster, and will be plastered around the city leading up to the event. “We want the awards to have a sense of playfulness and also New York casualness. The quotes give a voice to designers and the members of the CFDA,” Kolb said.
The printed CFDA Awards journal has been discontinued in favor of a digital portfolio. Portraits

Creative People Are Saints In Artist’s Beautiful Homage To Culture

On March 16, President Donald Trump released his budget proposal for the fiscal year of 2018, which included plans to eliminate all funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The news, though not quite a surprise, was a devastating blow for the countless Americans who cherish the necessity of creative expression and a vibrant cultural community.

New York-based artist Ventiko had already embarked upon her project “Phos Hilaron: From the Masses Rise the Saints” before Trump officially announced his agenda to slash the NEA and NEH. But Trump was certainly on the artist’s mind when she began to photograph beloved members of her creative community and frame them as patron saints.

“The thing that really inspired me was the election,” Ventiko told The Huffington Post. “This series was the result of wanting and needing to take action. I had to reclaim my power. I’ve been blessed to know so many talented people and this was my chance to actually exalt them.”

Ventiko enlisted 30 of her friends, collaborators and muses to serve as the subjects of her divine series. “I was brought up Jewish,” she explained, discussing her interest in religious imagery. “When I was younger, there wasn’t a lot of iconography in my moral teachings. I’ve always been drawn to the communication of morality through imagery and have played a lot with the subversion of symbolism.”

For the project, subject and artist collaborated to determine which “patron saint” the model would embody. The unorthodox roster of holy ones includes everything from “Patron Saint of Beauty” to “Patron Saint of Gender Fluidity” and “Patron Saint of Night Night.” The subjects donned full costumes and makeup to wholly personify each holy figure.

Far from the traditional cast of holy saints, Ventiko’s creative idols are individuals of all ages, genders, races and styles. The fantastical series captures all the different ways people can embrace the holy spirit ― be that spirit of tea time or 5th Avenue.

Ventiko then attached each image to a votive candle, and arranged the lot of them in Chinatown Soup gallery. Together, the illuminated portraits converge to form a divine altar with one foot in the New York art scene, the other in the sacred beyond. The glittering lights illuminate the ongoing importance of art-making in a time when the future of creative innovation is riddled with uncertainty.

For the artist, however, the holy homages respond more to Trump’s agenda in general than the proposed elimination of the NEA. “I really wanted to showcase the beauty of difference and individuality,” Ventiko said. “It’s about owning our stories, owning our truths. Not ‘if you come from this place you are a terrorist,’ or separating people out with walls. There is room for all of us us to establish our identities and to be who we are.”

“Phos Hilaron: From the Masses Rise the Saints” runs until April 2, 2017 at Chinatown Soup in New York.

The annual Creative Time gala will honor Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon this year.
The 2017 edition will take place on May 3 at City Point in Brooklyn. The gala, which celebrates “the institution that, since its inception, has been at the forefront of socially engaged public art,” according to Creative Time, has chosen to honor the Opening Ceremony duo for their support of both fashion and artists, and their frequent collaborations with creatives including Yoko Ono, Robert Mapplethorpe, Rob Pruitt, Ryan McGinley, Tom Sachs, Rene Magritte and Aurel Schmidt.
“Humberto and Carol are visionary creatives,” said Creative Time executive director Katie Hollander. “Their support for emerging talent and their collaborations with artists are of a kind with our own mission, and we couldn’t be happier to be honoring them at this year’s gala. They are, in a very real sense, artists themselves.”

Russell Wilson Says He and Ciara Have Decided on a Name for Their Baby: ‘We Both Have Some Creative Sense’

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson may be spilling the beans on whom he thinks will triumph in Sunday’s Super Bowl LI (spoiler alert: the  New England Patriots), but when it comes to his baby on the way, his lips are sealed.

“She’s doing great … it’s a blessing obviously, very excited about that,” Wilson, 28, told Extra‘s Mario Lopez of pregnant wife Ciara, adding that the couple know their baby’s due date, sex and name but are choosing not to reveal them.

“I can’t say exactly — we haven’t told really too many people at all,” adds the football star, whose team clinched their first Super Bowl win in 2014, of how far along his wife is in her pregnancy. “But it’s getting close. We’re getting there.”

Want all the latest pregnancy and birth announcements, plus celebrity mom blogs? Click here to get those and more in the PEOPLE Babies newsletter.

“You want to make it special,” Wilson tells Lopez of keeping the baby’s sex and name under wraps, adding of the moniker they’ve chosen, “We do have a name picked out. It will be a good one.”

Lopez asks whether Wilson or his wife, who also has a 2½-year-old son named Future Zahir, was the mastermind behind the name choice.

“A little bit of both,” Wilson says. “I think we both have some creative sense about us, so it’s gonna be cool.”

Though the Seahawks didn’t advance to the big game this season, they did get close, falling to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Playoffs in mid-January.

And Wilson didn’t sweat the loss, posting a sweet message on Instagram alongside a photo of Ciara, 31, planting a smooch on her husband’s cheek.

“I will forever win bc I get to come home to you every night. The love of my life. I love you,” Wilson wrote. “This past year has been full of so much joy & happiness.”

“From getting Married to having little one on the way, to your constant endless love. I couldn’t be more grateful to have you in my life Mrs. Wilson. You make everyday a perfect day. #ForeverGrateful.”

Band of Outsiders Launches First Men’s Wear Effort Under New Creative Team

LONDON — For their first effort as Band of Outsiders’ new creative team, brand director Daniel Hettmann and designer Angelo Van Mol delved into the label’s archives and aimed to revive its carefree, Californian spirit while offering the customer a complete wardrobe.
They blended loose tailoring with sportswear and colorful printed separates, everything being designed to be mix and matched in order to create a contemporary look.
“This is a very complete yet diverse wardrobe, so each man can really find something for himself that enhances his personality,” said Hettmann during a preview. “It was really about individuality and what we actually wear or want to buy.”
The tailoring was easy to create for the duo, given Van Mol’s former Savile Row training.
He pointed out that every piece was hand-stitched and cut on a single canvas to create light, comfortable silhouettes. Trousers were high-waisted and oversize, and the jackets were cut long and loose to achieve an effortless feel, relevant to the needs of a modern man who travels and needs items that are easy to move in.
Van Mol also applied tailoring techniques to the collection’s activewear offer, with track suit bottoms featuring subtle front pleats to enhance the fit.

Lil Yachty Named a Creative Designer at Nautica

Nautica and Lil Yachty are deepening their relationship.
The heritage brand has brought the rapper on as a creative designer for 2017. This comes after Lil Yachty served as the face of a Nautica capsule collection for Urban Outfitters that was released last year.
In the role, the artist will design capsule collections and appear in digital and social media advertising campaigns.
Long before partnering with Nautica officially, the 19-year-old was an enthusiast who regularly wore vintage styles from the brand, which connected with his affinity for all things nautical. He’s a part of a collective of artists who call themselves “The Sailing Team” and his stage name comes from “The Yacht Club,” a name he and his group of friends created in high school.
“Nautica is like a part of me,” said Lil Yachty, who’s known for his signature red, beaded braids. “It’s for kids, sailors, grown men and cool people.  The designs — the old designs, the new designs, I think it’s dope. There’s not really much out there like Nautica.”
Nautica on Friday released a limited-edition collection of pieces curated by Lil Yachty that included rereleases of vintage logo T-shirts and the brand’s popular pullover fleeces in addition to basics such as

Gents Acquired by Ridge Capital Partners, Wendell Brown to Be Creative Director

Ridge Capital Partners has acquired a majority stake in Gents Co., a men’s brand that got its start in 2012 selling luxury baseball caps.
Terms were not disclosed.
Gents will be led by managing partner Ryan Fishoff. Joshua Reed, the founder of the brand and a former Calvin Klein executive, will now serve as chairman and will remain active in the brand as will Trey Alligood, the former president and creative director, who will continue to serve as a consultant.
At the same time, Wendell Brown has been named creative director at large for Gents. Brown was a senior fashion editor for Esquire for 11 years and is currently at the Daily Beast where he is creative director for the company’s new accelerator program.
Fishoff said he put Gents together with Ridge Capital Partners, a private consortium of investors in New York, to fund the brand’s growth. This is its first entry into the apparel business. It is not the same company as the Washington-based Ridge Capital Partners LLC, the company said.
Although Gents only sells baseball caps at this time, Fishoff said the plan is to expand to men’s accessories, ath-leisurewear and personal-care products over the next year.

Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli Talks Creative Freedom and Next Steps for the House

Frank Sinatra put it like this: “I did it my way.”
Pierpaolo Piccioli’s way of life is unconventional, especially for a couturier. And that’s just how he likes it. Valentino’s creative director continues to live in Nettuno, Italy, a beach town 44 miles south of Rome where he was born, where he met his wife, Simona, and where they are raising their three children. Piccioli’s choice seems to mirror his understated and affable manners.
When he’s not traveling around the world, Piccioli rides the train to Rome and back each day like thousands of other commuters, and splits his time between the Italian capital, in the storied Piazza Mignanelli headquarters, Paris and Milan. At the moment of this particular interview, Piccioli has carved out a weekend between a trip from New York to Nettuno, back to New York and then off to Moscow, just to spend the All Saints’ Day holiday with his family at home.
While marked by a medieval hamlet and 14th-century towers, there is an additional claim to fame for Nettuno, or Neptune, the god of the sea in Roman mythology: in World War II, the Allies, led by the U.S. Army, landed on its sandy beaches and those of

Be Still and Know Your Creative Consciousness

Be Still and Know Your Creative Consciousness

What is Creative Consciousness? It is not a new thought in a new age. It is ancient wisdom that has slowly trickled down through the ages from wise mentors which is presently gaining more attention by individuals and groups on a rather large scale needed in today’s world to help break the shackles of ignorance and limited ideas, freeing clouded minds from past limited, non-progressive thoughts. Thought is energy and energy is power, therefore your thoughts, your ways of thinking can not only affect the outcome of your life, but also the lives of others. The mind’s thought-force vibrates in motion attracting what it thinks, Creating its environment and circumstances. Each one of your thoughts, words and actions aides in forming the next phase of your life. Selfish forms selfish, greed forms greed and doubt forms doubt, just as giving forms giving, joy forms joy, health forms health, wealth form wealth, and positivness forms positivness. Cause and effect is no lie and indeed something to be reckoned with. Creative Consciousness proves that there is purpose in your existence, your being, your life. Therefore realize that you have great power to design your life. Try not to associate with regressive individuals for their negative energy is as mental and physical poison to you. If anyone asks for your help, administer help only as far as they accept your help and show signs of growth, however, do not allow others through false impressions to become parasites thus drain vital energy from you. It is to your great benefit to raise your level of Creative Consciousness with your Creative abilities physically, mentally and emotionally. This can be achieved in many ways. For instance, do not drag past problems, illness, hardships and losses around with you. Those regressive thoughts are of no benefit to you. Learn to release such burdensome luggage by replacing such past negativity with progressive thinking. Become more Conscious of your positive, Creative ideas which in turn produ

After launching the New Wave exhibition at London’s Ritz Hotel in 1974, in order to introduce young British designers to the international market, she went on to found London Designer Collections in 1975. After establishing the collections, the executive went on to win funding from the British government’s Department of Trade and Industry, to support a newly formed British Fashion Council. After that, Worsley-Taylor established the London Designer Show in 1990, which the BFC called a “prototype” for London Fashion Week in its current form.
A combination of the seemingly scatty yet surprisingly steely, the tireless Worsley-Taylor was an integral part of the renaissance of London fashion in the early Eighties when the likes of BodyMap, Katharine Hamnett, Betty Jackson and, later, Rifat Özbek and John Galliano put the British capital back on the global fashion map as their shows became must-sees for international retailers. Teaching Plant Anatomy Through Creative Laboratory Exercises

Teaching Plant Anatomy Through Creative Laboratory Exercises

Preview using Google Book SearchThis easy-to-follow, full-colour guide was created for instructors teaching plant structure at the high school, college, and university levels. It benefits from the experience of the authors, who in teaching plant anatomy over many years, came to realize that students learn best by preparing their own microscope slides from fresh plant samples. The exercises contained in this book have been tested, require minimal supplies and equipment, and use plants that are readily available. Detailed instructions are given for sectioning and staining of plant material. The book contains a glossary of terms, an index, and a list of suppliers of materials required. A CD-ROM of all the illustrations is included for easy downloading into PowerPoint presentations.Although a number of new plant anatomy texts have been published in recent years, none is as innovative, exciting and user-friendly as Teaching Plant Anatomy Through Creative Laboratory Exercises by Peterson, Peterson and Melville. What makes this book so usable from high school biology courses on through to upper level university plant structure labs is the wealth of experience that the authors have incorporated into this comprehensive clearly illustrated text. Using mostly photomicrographs of hand sections and wonderfully clear colour illustrations, they cover all aspects of plant structure from organelles to organs. The book also outlines some easy to use techniques, such as hand sections and clearings and macerations, which will certainly be very useful for any plant related lab. This book really does bring plant anatomy to life and will be a must for any course that deals with plant structure even if it''s just to prepare plant material for molecular techniques. An excellent contribution to any botanical teaching where you want your students to get a hands-on approach to the subject….Dr. Usher Posluszny, University of Guelph

When it comes to building her wardrobe, Aï Bihr certainly has a lot of options. As Steven Alan’s creative director, Bihr has a whole store’s worth of goodies right at her fingertips — and is in the enviable position of being able to actually create exactly the kind of garment she’d like to wear. And if that wasn’t enough to make you wish you were in her shoes, Bihr speaks multiple languages, has lived in Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York, holds degrees in both neuroscience and pattern-making. Here, she gives us the scoop on what she wears to work.

Test Market

On a work day, I try to wear mostly Steven Alan because it’s good for me to wear what we’ve made; if we need to improve something or if something’s not working great, then I know it. I love to wear a big Steven Alan shirt — I usually get something a bit oversize. So I’ll wear a men’s extra-large reverse seam in white, with a pair of jeans we’ve made. I also have a lot of old Levi’s because I collect a lot of denim. I love a 501, but I like to buy a big men’s size and then cut the legs so they’re kind of wide and cropped. I go to a lot of vintage stores to hunt for them; when I lived in Paris I went every weekend to look at the flea markets. I’m also a big vintage eyewear collector and have really loved designing the Steven Alan Optical collection.

On my feet, I usually have sneakers or oxfords. Or like, a penny loafer. My whole team knows I’m addicted to these Japanese high tops called Shoes Like Pottery. I wear them constantly, year round. I don’t want to be boring, but I always look the same! Even if there’s a corporate event or I have to make a presentation, I always look the same. I try to stay very consistent and have been very consistent for a long time. I’ve always worn a lot of jumpsuits–whatever brand I go to, I make jumpsuits for them. They’re kind of great because they’re so versatile. You can even tie the sleeves at the waist and they make really great pants that way. I have a nice collection of vintage jumpsuits, some from the Yves Saint Laurent Safari collection, and I’ll wear those tied at the waist or zip them up and belt them. And if I’m wearing a jumpsuit like that I might add a little heeled sandal. Maryam Nassir Zadeh makes beautiful shoes. If I do go to a party and I feel like wearing something a little bit different I’ll put on sandals from Maryam. One of my best friends, Mona, designs A Détacher and she makes really beautiful skirts and dresses. I recently bought an indigo skirt/culotte thing from her. It’s the perfect length and so good for summer parties.

Dress for the Seasons

When the weather is this hot and humid, I love to wear linen and cotton poplin. We have these really great cotton poplin wide trousers from Steven Alan called the Picnic Pant. When you wear a wide-leg trouser like that, it’s nice to wear something small on top. You can’t wear something too big, or else you look like a tent. It’s also a great pant to wear with a linen T-shirt.

In the fall, I’m usually in a suit. I’ll wear a suit jacket and a pair of trousers, with a T-shirt and sneakers. I have a few different jacket styles that I really like–one is a schoolboy that’s a bit smaller; The Row makes a really nice one every year. And then I like a boyfriend notched lapel in tropical wool; it’s actually the first jacket I made for Steven Alan when I joined the company and it’s still my go-to. I also always love to have a peak lapel double-breasted blazer. I think the key to pulling off a suit is–well, first of all you just really have to find the right suit for you. But then you also have to have a more casual element in your accessories or what you’re wearing the suit with, like a T-shirt and sneakers.

Quality Control

When I’m shopping for myself, I always look at the finishing of the garment. I’m looking on the inside, not just the outside, examining the fabric, rubbing it on my neck and doing all the crazy things that designers do. You want to make sure there’s a clean finish–basically, that you don’t see all this thread wrapped around the seam–so that it doesn’t look like things are going to snag. It’s good to pay attention to these kinds of things, because they’re going to dictate the longevity of the garment. And really touch the fabric. Customers aren’t stupid, they know when they’re feeling good fabric. This is why we choose to use really good fabric at Steven Alan, because our customers are smart. They know they’re not getting garbage from us. That’s one thing I’m really proud of: There’s no room for poor quality. I’m really proud to say that more than 90 percent of the things I make are made in New York. And if it’s not made here, it’s made at the best factory in Japan.

Why Daydreams Are the Best Creative Tool for Your Reinvention Process

Were you that kid who was constantly getting called out for daydreaming?

“Pay attention.”
“Stop daydreaming.”
“Is anybody in there?”

Me too.

But the funny thing is I never stopped.

Some people feel daydreaming is all about wasting time, zoning out, or simply not wanting to be present for whatever is happening in the now. But that’s not necessarily the case.

Research shows that more than one third of our waking hours is spent daydreaming. One in three! And when MRI scans are performed on people when they are daydreaming, the results show a very active and very dynamic brain function, which has to mean that daydreaming serves some vitally important function, right?

People who daydream demonstrate more creativity. And when you learn to daydream in a controlled way, these mental wanderings can cause you to be much more prolific and productive in all that you take on.

Daydreams have benefits. And with a little focus, you can turn them into a creative task that will help you get more done and be more inventive with everything you do.

Daydream more … with a little direction.

Daydream about a perfect day at some point in the future. Where would you live? What would you have around you? Who would you have around you? What would you be doing? The richer the details, the more it will help you align your actions with what will help you make that daydream a reality.

Daydream about a perfect day at work. What would you be doing? What would your job title be? Who would be around you? How would you be interacting with customers? How much would you make?

Daydream about new relationships. Who would it be? How would you meet them? What would you ask them? What would you hope to learn? How would they influence you?

Daydream about traveling. Where would you go? What would you do? How long would you be there? Who would you take with you?

Daydream about making a change in the world. What’s missing? It can be something simple or something complex; something in your hometown, or something that would impact the entire world.

Daydream with unlimited resources. We tend to confine our daydreams to things we already have or have easy access to. What if money and resources were endless? What if you could do anything?

Daydream about being famous. What could you do that would make you famous? What would you invent? What would you create? What would they write in a biography about you long after you are gone?

Learning to control your daydreams is only half of the exercise; from there take action. You’ll be amazed at all you can achieve, simply from a little daydreaming.

This Creative Bride And Groom Had A Bunch Of Puppets Officiate Their Wedding

Los Angeles couple Tammy Caplan and Joe Gold are actors, writers and independent filmmakers. Needless to say, they both share a colorful imagination.

So when the couple of 15 years tied the knot in April 2015, they let those imaginations run wild and opted to surprise guests by having puppets officiate the wedding ceremony. Six puppets to be exact — a main officiant, a rabbi, a judge, a ring bear, a captain and a wedding crasher.

The bride and groom wrote the script for the puppets together. Caplan told The Huffington Post that they both were fans of “Sesame Street” and the Muppets growing up.

“Joe and I wrote the ceremony fairly quickly,” she said. “After we talked out what we wanted to do, the first draft took about a day. It was a blast to write! We’ve written several scripts together, but this was one of the most fun writing projects.”

The couple worked with the Puppet School of Los Angeles to make their puppet officiant dreams a reality.

“Our parents kept asking us, ‘Who’s the officiant?’ and we said, ‘It’s a secret,'” Caplan told HuffPost. “We were a little nervous they wouldn’t like the idea but they loved it. The guests had tons of fun which was exactly what we wanted for our wedding.”

After the ceremony, the puppeteers walked around with their puppets and interacted with the wedding guests. Later during the breakfast reception, guests were invited to make their very own puppets. And at the end of the day, the couple hosted a special dance where everyone brought their puppets onto the dance floor.

Love You to Pieces: Creative Writers on Raising a Child with Specialneeds

Love You to Pieces: Creative Writers on Raising a Child with Specialneeds

The first collection of literary writing on raising a child with special needs, Love You to Pieces features families coping with autism, deafness, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome and more. Here, poets, memoirists, and fiction writers paint beautiful, wrenchingly honest portraits of caring for their children, laying bare the moments of rage, disappointment, and guilt that can color their relationships. Parent-child communication can be a challenge at the best of times, but in this collection we witness the struggles and triumphs of those who speak their own language–or don’t speak at all–and those who love them deeply. "Powerful, unflinching, and beautifully rendered, Love You to Pieces is not just an anthology about raising children with special needs, but true literature. Many parents will find moving depictions of a reality they know so well. Others with no knowledge of this world will find a literary experience they’ll never forget." –Rachel Simon, author of Riding the Bus with My Sister "Love You To Pieces is a unique reading experience: raw, moving, provocative and compelling. The stories are beautifully told, from many different backgrounds and perspectives, but taken together share a common and ultimately triumphant connecting thread: love conquers all." –Daniel Tammet, author of Born On A Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant "Love You To Pieces is groundbreaking. Our public discourse about disability is dominated by the voices of medical professionals and fix-your-child tomes. These stories elevate the experience of people with disabilities to the level of literature. Love You To Pieces bears witness to cognitive and physical difference as an essential and beautiful fact of human experience. It is a must buy book for anyone who parents, educates, or supports young people with disabilities." –Jonathan Mooney, author of The Short Bus: A Journey Beyond Normal

You can change your World!: Creative Ways To Volunteer & Make A Difference

You can change your World!: Creative Ways To Volunteer & Make A Difference

In her last book, the industrious Sondra Clark mobilized her tween peers to dream big dreams and make them happen. Now, in You Can Change Your World!, Clark challenges readers ages 8-13 with a new vision to improve their homes, their schools, and the world. Making a difference begins, Sondra says, by keeping your eyes open for ways to do something nice for someone else. Sometimes it''s as simple as being nice to your pesky little brother or collecting shampoos and soaps for a women''s shelter. Other times it may require more sacrifice, such as donating time and energy to volunteer with the Special Olympics. As the author of three books and a spokeschild for Childcare International, Sondra Clark knows what it takes to make a difference in the world. In this book, she shares plenty of practical ways for readers to better the lives of their families and friends and to improve their schools, communities, and beyond. Crammed with fun stories, realistic tips, and creative ideas, You Can Change Your World! is sure to delight and inspire kids-and their parents, too.

DKNY Could Be Looking for a New Creative Director

DKNY CREATIVE HEAD: Could DKNY be looking for a new creative director? Industry sources say a search is on for a person to head the design team at the label, which is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Caroline Brown, chief executive officer of Donna Karan International, is said to be tapping into the young designer market to come up with a candidate for the role. Public School, Prabal Gurung and Andrea Lieberman, designer of A.L.C., are among the names that have been bandied about. Lieberman had no comment, as did Gurung and a spokeswoman for DKI. Asked whether he was considering the position, Maxwell Osborne, design partners with Dao-Yi Chow in Public School, said, “not at this moment,” adding that they have enough going on with their own line. Jane Chung is the longtime executive vice president of design at DKNY.

Word Of Mouth: Nashville Conversations: Insight Into The Drive, Passion, And Innovation Of Music City's Creative

Word Of Mouth: Nashville Conversations: Insight Into The Drive, Passion, And Innovation Of Music City's Creative

Right now, there is no city in the United States hotter, cooler, or more it than Nashville, TN. With a booming economy, a great quality of life, and a creative, collaborative entreprepeneurial community, Nashville is on the short-list of living and travel destinations for passionate and innovative minds. As many newspapers, magazines, and websites have pointed out, one of the critical components to Nashville''s growth and popularity is it''s thriving and cutting-edge music, culinary, and artistic communities.
Word of Mouth: Nashville Conversations is an elegant collection of interviews by Nashville writer Lily C. Hansen, highlighted by stunning, black & white photography from some of Nashville''s finest photographers, that captures the drive, passion, and innovation of several prolific Nashvillians who have thrived in – and helped drive — the art, culinary, and music industries. Also included are several wild card personalities: those who possess talents that defy labeling and elipse categorization. Word of Mouth is an inside look at the exploding community of Nashville and a multifaceted portrait of the intellectual and inventive capital that makes the city hum with energy.
It''s title reflects what makes Word of Mouth special: by interviewing each of these personalities, Word of Mouth relies on the classic form of intimate conversation to gain insight and understanding of each personality while also capturing the organic and tried-and-true method – word of mouth — through which each have attracted their fan-base and support network. Word of Mouth: Nashville Conversations is a testament to Nashville''s incredible mixture of artistic talent but also it''s zest for collaboration, rather than competitiveness: similar to the artistic community''s nonexistent hierarchy, up-and-coming talent is interviewed alongside illustrious, internationally-recognized artists.
While Word of Mouth: Nashville Conversations focuses on the creative entrepeneurs of Music City, it is a book that knows no geographical limits; it is for every creative entrepreneur, everywhere. As a collection of anecdotes, quotes and wisdom shared by those pursuing their dreams or those who have already obtained commercial fruition, it presents the stories and the insights that any innovative mind, young and old alike, needs to hear as they follow their heart and pursue their own creative path.

Creative Activities for Group Therapy

Creative Activities for Group Therapy

Leading a group is a delicate balancing act of tasks and dynamic group and individual factors, and the group leader’s expertise and skill are fundamental to maintaining this balance. However, no matter how competent and well-prepared the group leader is, there can be situations that present challenges that are not easily addressed, defy conventional interventions, or call for a different approach. The material presented in this book is intended to give group leaders evidence-based creative and inspirational tools, techniques, intervention strategies, and the like to address these dilemmas and difficult situations. They can also enhance members’ growth and development, stimulate self-exploration, assist to soothe and calm, and deepen and broaden thoughts and feelings. The creative activities included were selected because they do not require specialized training, are easy to implement, do not follow a particular theoretical perspective, and can be effective for both the individual and group as a whole. The major categories of expressive processes presented are fairy tales; drawing; writing; imagery and mindfulness; music; movement, exercise, dance, drama, and role play; and collage, flats, and scrapbooks. Each chapter will focus on one of these activities and is designed so that they can be completed in one session. The closing chapters will present applications for member’s concerns, group level challenges, and case examples of group dilemmas and suggested activities to address them.

Think About It: A Creative Community for Peace

The Creative Community for Peace was born officially with a full-page ad in the New York Times calling the “arts (to be) used to build bridges of peace” in Israel and Palestine, and perhaps the world.

Certainly, there can be no more distilled expression of a culture than its works of art.

We desperately need another tactic, another force for solving problems in the middle east and in the world.

In the coming decade, the challenge for humanity will be whether we can come to grips with the idea of a world community, shared governance and the notion that the differences between us — the art and culture and wonder and beauty of those differences — must be something we can respect, honor, grow to appreciate and welcome.

In creating art, consciously or not, artists are attempting to communicate at a powerful emotional level to those within their own culture. The best work transcends its cultural matrix and speaks directly to our common humanity.

Already, the world is so inextricably interconnected that cultural and economic isolationism is unthinkable, even if it were desirable. But more needs to done, and perhaps the most effective thing that can be done is to aggressively promote multicultural understanding. By doing so, perhaps, we can create the world community reflective of the world economy in the making.

Given the ubiquitous nature of the worldwide web, we can use the new technologies — with their powerful capacity for shaping and delivering human interchange — as virtual bridges across the vast distances separating cultures.

Over the last few decades we were witness to a basic change in our modern day world: globalization, the rise the rebirth of the region state, and the resurgence of age old hostilities — racial, tribal and religious strife — that lay just beneath the surface for the last 100 years.

Globalization — something still not understood but feared — has forced us to think about the rest of the world, not just ourselves. For globalization to work, as former President Bill Clinton has observed, we need to be sensitive to the social and political values nation to nation as well as the economic opportunities.

As Thomas Friedman observed in his book of the same name, suddenly The World is Flat.

By the turn of the century and the onset of a new millennium, the Internet changed the way the world communicated with one another around the world, as it changed the structure of the world economy. The worldwide web wasn’t invented until the late 1990s but by the year 2000, the net seemed to be growing at 15% per month worldwide.

Everybody is now communicating with everyone else; every person, every community is competing with every other… and in the process, the question is being raised about the future of the world, and of the current geopolitical order.

Friedman calls it Globalization 3.0

While there are countless disciplines, which might reasonably serve as a means to understanding culture, such as history, sociology, mathematics, and science, only art lends itself to the full range of experiential capabilities offered by the new technologies.

This is why art serves so superbly as a universal language — as a means toward understanding the history, culture, and values of other peoples. As human beings build virtual bridges into unknown cultural territory — and there learn, share dreams, and creatively work together–mankind will know itself as citizens of a rich and truly global society. And if citizens of a global society are to live in peace, goods, services, and technical information are exchanged, but values and visions, as well.

It is this new technological marvel that has made the world smaller that compels worldwide debate and discussion; and provides the threshold for the world’s greatest assets of art and culture to become the glue for discussion about a New World Community. Everybody it seems has an APP for almost every human endeavor. Maybe, America — in partnership with other governments and institutions around the world — should create the cultural databases that truly bring people together.

Maybe it is naive to say art is the universal language, and that we can open windows for all to see that we are just folks, and that we are one community. Yet, if art can’t, nothing can.
