Giorgio Armani Cruise 2020

In his first runway show for a cruise collection, Giorgio Armani touched down in the island nation of Japan, and brought with him even more of an island vibe.
“The collection is a condensed version of my style, which has remained consistent over the years — like an island in the fashion system,” the designer said. “The burnt, neutral colors and tactile, raw textures reference characteristic island landscapes.”
Even the runway itself resembled water flowing over sand, with clear Plexiglass panels covering a beige carpet and throwing ripple-like reflections onto the surrounding walls. The show began with looks in neutral shades, eventually moving on to more vibrant reds and blues. But each look was relaxed and easy, with lots of fluid shapes.
Armani also made ample use of soft, natural textures. Linen, silk and satin were accented with leather trim and sumptuous knits. Lightweight fabrics were often used in voluminous pieces, from oversized women’s blouses and flowing ponchos to pleated men’s trousers that gathered at the ankle like jogging pants.
The accessories were also big and bold. Wide belts with exaggerated buckles defined the waist of coats and pants, tortoiseshell necklaces were chunky and layered and brooches and earrings packed a punch

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2020

What a landing! The 2020 itinerant resort tour touched down at JFK on Wednesday evening, as Nicolas Ghesquière took his Louis Vuitton audience on a complicated first-class trip.
The much-hyped show took place at the much-hyped TWA Hotel, opening next week in the famous former TWA Flight Center designed in 1962 by Eero Saarinen as a marvel of mid-century architecture and abandoned in 2001 when the airline went kerplunk and was assimilated into American Airlines. The winged marvel of a building holds special resonance for Ghesquière, not only because he has long been architecture-obsessed but because the building provided his first impression of New York, in 1991.
“I’m old,” Ghesquière said with self-effacing charm backstage after the show, “so I landed here one trip. I always remember the place, here, this terminal. Arriving to this fantastic city…and at the same time, at this masterpiece of architecture.”
This proved a more high-profile arrival, the Flight Center now populated by a celeb-heavy throng of LV-clad revelers including Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas (just your typical honeymooners passing through JFK), as well as Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Tracy Morgan, Jennifer Connelly, Willow Smith, Ruth Negga, Robyn, Indya Moore and even Armani loyalist Cate Blanchett.

Chanel Cruise 2020

The invitation for Chanel’s cruise show was printed on a plain white card — symbolizing, perhaps, the blank page facing artistic director Virginie Viard as she prepared to write the next chapter in the history of the house that had been synonymous with Karl Lagerfeld for 36 years.
Guests arriving at the Grand Palais found a similarly low-key ambiance inside the venue. Its soaring steel-and-glass roof all but dwarfed the set, a retro train station where guests sat on wooden benches under signs bearing the names of cities that resonate in Chanel lore: Venice, Saint-Tropez, Rome or Edinburgh, among them.
An impulse kicked in to make a pun: All aboard the Chanel Express! But the space lacked the joyful effervescence of Lagerfeld’s bombastic sets, which invited guests to preen for selfies and journalists to conjure clichés about rocketships, icebergs, cruise liners or whatever phantasmagorical vision he dreamt up for the season.
“It’s very minimal,” one editor soberly observed. The press kit offered the first hint of change. A booklet, printed on glossy paper, featured images shot by Karim Sadli, marking the first time since 1987 that a photographer other than Lagerfeld had lensed the collection.
In it, hints of a lighter, more streamlined take

Dior Cruise 2020

MARRAKECH — Cultural appropriation is dead. Long live cultural appreciation!
That was the message of the Dior cruise show staged here on Monday night, which saw creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborating with a host of guest designers from the African continent and beyond in a shared tribute to craftsmanship.
The location of the display, the remains of the magnificent El Badi Palace, spoke of ancient dynasties and rulers. The clothes themselves were a dialogue with the world of today, a celebration of globalization and inclusivity.
Celebrities including Jessica Alba, Shailene Woodley, Lupita Nyong’o and Diana Ross were among the roughly 800 guests who took in the mega-production, staged shortly after sunset around a water basin dotted with dozens of candles and seven flaming braziers.
To a hypnotic soundtrack of Jajouka musicians, accompanied by British electronic band The Orb, a diverse cast of models walked in more than 110 looks ranging from African wax separates to black evening gowns that carried a whiff of Yves Saint Laurent, the former Dior designer who considered Marrakech his second home.
Alba, flanked by her husband Cash Warren, was fresh off celebrating her 38th birthday the night before at a welcome dinner held at the neighboring Bahia Palace in a

Louis Vuitton to Stage Cruise Show at JFK Airport’s TWA Flight Center

COME FLY WITH ME: Nicolas Ghesquière is making sure his next Louis Vuitton cruise collection is ready for takeoff: the show on May 8 will be held in the TWA Flight Center at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Ghesquière, who tends to gravitate toward striking modernist buildings, announced the location in an Instagram post on Monday. The terminal, which opened in 1962, was designed for TWA by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen.
Known for its wing-shaped roof and tube-shaped corridors, the mid-century modern building has been closed since 2001. It will be revived soon as the centerpiece of the TWA Hotel, set to open on May 15, housing retail, eight bars and six restaurants, including the Paris Café by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The TWA Flight Center was declared a New York City landmark in 1994 and went on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It was also used as a backdrop in Steven Spielberg’s “Catch Me If You Can” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
Louis Vuitton will be the first to stage an event in the restored building before it opens to the public.
“The TWA Flight Center, a sheer evocation of travel itself, is inherently linked to Louis Vuitton’s commitment

Gucci to Hold Cruise 2020 Show in Rome

CLOSE TO HOME: Gucci is not traveling far for its cruise 2020 fashion show — instead, it has selected one of the most striking sites in Rome: the Capitoline Museums.
The show will be held May 28 and the choice of the location results from creative director Alessandro Michele’s ongoing interest in “the Old World,” said the company, “this time drawing from a place reminiscent of his childhood.”
Located on the Capitoline Hill, the museums display a large number of ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, and other artifacts; a collection of medieval and Renaissance art, and collections of jewels and coins, among others.
In line with his interests, most recently Michele shot the brand’s pre-fall 2019 collection in the archaeological parks of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Selinunte.
Previous Gucci Cruise shows were held at the Dia-Art Foundation in New York City; the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London; the Palatine Gallery at Pitti Palace in Florence, and last year, the Promenade Des Alyscamps in a Roman necropolis in the southern French city of Arles.
In addition, over the next two years the Florence-based company will make a donation to support the restoration project of the Rupe Tarpea, the Tarpeian Rock, a steep cliff of the southern summit

Gucci Cruise 2019

ARLES, France — If cruise shows are all about transporting the audience, Alessandro Michele deserves the award for the most dazzling spectacle to date in a season thick with powerful imagery.
The Gucci creative director chose the Alyscamps, a Roman necropolis in the southern French city of Arles, as the setting for his show, and took full advantage of the area’s epic history with a nighttime display that transcended space and time with a trove of references ancient and modern.
Clouds of smoke and rows of church candles bathed the open-air space in a Gothic ambience, enhanced by the haunting soundtrack of Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespers for the Blessed Virgin.”
As night fell and guests including Saoirse Ronan, A$ AP Rocky, Salma Hayek and Christian Lacroix took their places on mirrored cubes, a line of fire ignited down the central alleyway, signaling the start of the show.
The models swept out thick and fast in outfits so intricate, the eye struggled to keep pace. Michele sent out a dizzying 114 looks for women and men, mixing brand signatures — think plaid skirts, floral silk prints and tiger patterns — with outfits designed for fantasy characters ranging from rock stars to 19th-century widows.

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019

SAINT-PAUL-DE-VENCE, France — Accustomed to showing his Louis Vuitton collections in the majestic surroundings of the Louvre museum, Nicolas Ghesquière opted for an equally exceptional, but altogether more confidential, art destination for his cruise display on Monday.
Guests including Emma Stone, Jennifer Connelly, Léa Seydoux, Justin Theroux and Ruth Negga trekked up to the southern French hilltop village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence for the show, held at the Fondation Maeght, a private art foundation whose gardens are filled with works by the likes of Alberto Giacometti and Marc Chagall.
Those arriving from the Dior cruise show in Paris appeared to have brought the unseasonal weather with them. Mist shrouded the treetops, giving the venue a melancholic feel enhanced by the haunting live soundtrack that greeted guests at the pre-show cocktail.
Milling about in the Giacometti Courtyard, Grace Coddington sported silk pajamas blending the LV monogram with her signature drawings of cats. It turned out the fashion editor has created a capsule collection of accessories with Ghesquière that is set to hit stores in October.
“We’re very close friends and I love everything he does, so he asked me to work with him, and it was more than a pleasure,” she said. Coddington, who published the original

Front Row at Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019

ART ATTACK: Louis Vuitton convened a gallery of A-list faces for its cruise show on Monday, held at the Fondation Maeght in the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence near Nice.
Sienna Miller, Laura Harrier, Léa Seydoux, Sophie Turner and Isabelle Huppert were among those taking in Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest designs in the stunning hilltop setting.
Emma Stone was reunited with Justin Theroux, her co-star in the upcoming Netflix series “Maniac,” though she seemed keen to quash any rumors of romance. “He’s like my brother. It’s really fun,” she said of hanging out together off-set.
The “La La Land” star took advantage of her visit to France to see Vuitton’s Les Fontaines Parfumées perfume workshop site in neighboring Grasse, where house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud plies his trade.
“It was incredible. I mean, I feel like I learned so much in such a short period of time, which was amazing,” Stone reported, hinting that a new Vuitton perfume campaign may be in the works.
“I’m working with Louis Vuitton for fragrance as well,” said the actress, who recently appeared in her first Vuitton advertisements. She added that rose — a key ingredient in the brand’s Rose des Vents perfume — is one of her favorite scents.

SPIRITED ELEMENTS: The rain hadn’t really begun in earnest when guests trickled in through a cobblestone alley to take their seats lining the white sandy ring for the Dior Cruise show.
“Maybe we can find an umbrella somewhere,” Billie Lourd laughed as she hunted for her seat. The actress is gearing up for her eighth season of “American Horror Story” and working on a movie called “Book Smart,” directed by Olivia Wild.
“She’s a goddess! I’m so excited,” Lourd said with a grin. Surveying the arena on the grounds of Chantilly’s historic stables she professed her love of horses but said she’s allergic to them.
“I’m allergic and it’s the saddest thing ever, but honestly, I’ll still go on them because they’re so beautiful,” she added wistfully.
“I used to keep my horse in a much smaller affair,” noted Alexa Chung as she entered the eighteenth century edifice, built by the Prince of Condé who expected to be reincarnated as a horse.

Dior Cruise 2019: Preview

Maria Grazia Chiuri may have curbed her wandering instincts for this year’s Christian Dior cruise show, but her inspiration travels across continents.
Chances were strong that her collection, to be unveiled on Friday night in the Great Stables of the Domaine de Chantilly, would weave in an equestrian theme, but the designer is sure to surprise with outfits inspired by the female riders, called escaramuzas, that compete in Mexico’s version of rodeo.
With their embellished sombreros and embroidered cotton dresses, which flare out into tiered skirts layered with petticoats, the riders cut dashing figures as they perform stunts at full gallop, all the while riding sidesaddle.
The fearlessness of the sport taps right into Chiuri’s love for strong women, a running thread in all her collections since she took over as creative director for women’s wear in 2016, marking her debut show with “We should all be feminists” T-shirts.
“The reason I like the escaramuzas is because they do something that is so macho — rodeo — in our vision, but they decided to do that in their traditional dresses which are so pretty, so feminine,” she said during a fitting at Dior’s ready-to-wear workshop in Paris.

Lily-Rose Depp, Kristen Stewart and Margot Robbie Step Aboard Chanel Cruise Ship

LOVE BOAT: Even Lily-Rose Depp — part of the Chanel clan — was speechless entering the Grand Palais on Thursday for the house’s resort show, with a gigantic faux cruise liner parked in the middle of the site, smoke puffing out of its chimneys and plastic waves rippling under mock moonlight, with a soundtrack of seagulls in the background.
“It’s so cinematic, it reminds me of Parisians going on vacation. There’s something quite Sixties about it, I’m so in the mood to go somewhere in the sun,” Depp said after the show. The aspiring actress, who has grown up attending Chanel shows with her mother Vanessa Paradis, said she’d just wrapped filming “Les Fauves,” directed by Vincent Mariette, and is about to start filming Louis Garrel’s “Un Homme Fidèle” alongside Laetitia Casta. Both are French-language movies. “I’d like to do it all, but that’s what I’m doing right now,” she said.
“I’m a massive fan of ‘Titanic,’ I was really hoping they were going to play some Céline Dion,” deadpanned actress Phoebe Tonkin, who confessed she doesn’t have sea legs. “I’m a terrible boat person, apparently the key is to not wear shoes on a boat,” she said.

Chanel Cruise 2019

PARIS — What better way to showcase cruise than on a cruise?
That, at least, was the thinking at Chanel this season, but the plan ran into a snag: the house could not secure a ship fit to host its floating show. So instead, creative director Karl Lagerfeld brought the boat to dry land, constructing a 330-foot-long ocean liner in the middle of the Grand Palais.
Named La Pausa, after the villa in the South of France built by founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the Thirties, the replica ship was the spectacular backdrop for Chanel’s cruise collection on Thursday night, which drew guests including Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart and Lily-Rose Depp.
But it was another appearance that set tongues wagging: Lagerfeld took his bow with his longtime fashion studio director Virginie Viard, in a move sure to fan rumors about his potential retirement — though a spokeswoman for Chanel said he had done it before, and there was no special significance to the gesture.
By now, the designer’s outsize imagination should come as no surprise to any regular guests at his Chanel shows, which in recent seasons have featured a space rocket, a waterfall and a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower. But this was

Dior to Stage Cruise 2019 Show in Chantilly Stables

SADDLE UP: Dior is staging its cruise 2019 show closer to home than the last edition, which took place in the Santa Monica Mountains. Scheduled for May 25, the event will take place at the Grandes Écuries of the Domaine de Chantilly, near Paris.
A symbol of French prestige and art de vivre, the historic stables — which are the largest in Europe — were constructed in the 18th century for the seventh Prince de Condé, Louis-Henri de Bourbon.
The city of Chantilly has long-standing ties with Dior, from the founding couturier’s first creations to those of his successors, Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Bohan. Various designs for the house over the years have carried or evoked its name and prestige, starting with Christian Dior’s second collection, for fall 1947, which featured an evening dress baptized at Chantilly.
While Dior journeyed to the sweeping Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, Calif., for the staging of its Cruise 2018 show — marking the first big destination event for artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri — the setting of the house’s next display promises to be more about time travel. And possibly an equestrian theme.

Tom Cruise Apparently Juggled ‘Bible Study And Blow Jobs’ Filming ‘Risky Business’

If “Risky Business” is about a loss of innocence (sexual or otherwise) among a group of college-bound teenagers, then Tom Cruise apparently went full-tilt method behind the scenes, according to an excerpt from a new memoir by co-star Curtis Armstrong.

He wasn’t sending the cast condoms or a live rat (for the last time, Jared Leto needs to chill). But despite his reputation as a straight-laced, Bible-reading and generally upstanding guy on set, Cruise was allegedly engaging in some extracurricular activities with a host of young women.

Armstrong, who plays Cruise’s character’s poker buddy, Miles Dalby, kept detailed notes about his experience working with the rising star while filming the comedy during the summer of 1982.

Apparently, one night Cruise declined to go out drinking with Armstrong and other co-stars in order to prepare for the next day and bone up on the Bible. Armstrong describes the actor as a self-identified born-again Christian who “made straight arrows look like corkscrews.” That is, until he discovered what Cruise was actually up to during his nights alone.

“Returning late one night, I found three or four young girls — late teens, I suspect — lined up in the hall outside of Tom’s room,” Armstrong writes in his memoir, Revenge of the Nerd. “I remember thinking, ‘Tom’s going to be really upset if these hot girls interfere with his Bible reading.’ So I asked them, with all the stern gravitas of my 28 years, if there was something I could do to help them.”

“They just stared at me, and at that moment, Tom’s door opened and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom’s room,” he continued. “This was a young man who knew something about time management and understood how to successfully juggle Bible study and blow jobs. I went to bed alone that night thinking it served me right for not being religious.”

Instead of the “Risky Business” reboot Hollywood is sure to screw up any day now, let’s just adapt this memoir for the screen right now, because nothing in the film could ever be, well, so risky.

Dior to Show Cruise in Santa Monica Mountains Nature Preserve

PRAIRIE GIRL: From Blenheim Palace to the Santa Monica Mountains: Christian Dior will stage its cruise show on May 11 at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve near Los Angeles.
The pastoral setting spans nearly 3,000 acres in the Simi Hills and for centuries was the home of the Chumash Native American tribe. Nowadays its trails are used for walking, hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.
Dior said it will be the first time a fashion show will be held at the venue. It is yet another sign of women’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s desire to break with tradition as she reinvents the image of the 70-year-old brand to appeal to Millennials.
Last year Dior showed its cruise collection, designed by Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux, in the majestic setting of Blenheim Palace, the historic seat of the Duke of Marlborough in Oxfordshire, England.

Louis Vuitton to Stage Cruise at I.M. Pei’s Miho Museum

TUNNEL VISION: Maintaining its recent tradition of spectacular show locations with a powerful architectural bent, Louis Vuitton will set its cruise 2018 presentation on May 14 at the Miho Museum, set amid lush vegetation in the Shiga mountains near the Japanese city of Kyoto.
The museum was designed by I.M. Pei and features a huge tunnel leading to a structure with a steel-and-glass roof and a floor and walls made of a warm beige-colored limestone from France – the same materials the architect used to create the pyramid and reception hall at the Louvre museum in Paris, which was the setting for creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s fall collection for the brand.
The designer tweeted a teaser photo of the site on Thursday afternoon showing the tunnel and a glimpse of the museum.

The Real and Imagined Murder Mystery Cruise

The Real and Imagined Murder Mystery Cruise

A cruise, with a contingent of murder mystery game players on board, sets off from Fort Lauderdale for Rio de Janeiro and its world-famous Carnaval. Little do they know, their pastime will be supplemented by some very real homicides. Cruise Director Jonathan scarcely controls his own destiny on the SS Santa Maria. Bureaucrats in the Miami corporate offices, especially his boss, Sidney Streiter, strive to administer all on-board activities. Try as hard as they might, they can’t figure out who is doing the killing. It’s not all doom and gloom on board. This novel is also a travel guide to the myriad pleasures of cruising and visiting the Caribbean and South America. It is also a love story about two people falling for each other while they flee for their lives. Midge Franzen, head of the murder mystery group, is having a little better luck solving her on-board murders. However, no sooner does her group make some headway in sleuthing one of her fictive pot boilers, than does another very real passenger or crew member die. Everyone is suspect – Sidney in Miami, Jonathan on the high seas, murder mystery fans on board, crew members from Indonesia. Will this boatload of murder fans be able to figure it all out or do the Miami bureaucrats have to helicopter in to take charge? It all comes down to a climax in Carnaval-crazed Rio where a newly united Midge and Jonathan flee the killers by ascending Hunchback Mountain to hide in the body of Christ the Redeemer.

Cruise Control: Chanel to Remain in Paris for Resort Show

FRENCH LESSONS: He’ll always have Paris — even during cruise season. Karl Lagerfeld is to parade his next cruise collection for Chanel in the French capital, reaffirming his attachment to the city and its importance for fashion, WWD has learned.
Chanel confirmed May 3 as the date of the show, but has yet to disclose the venue or other details.
Lagerfeld and Chanel recently privatized the Ritz Paris and staged three shows for the Métiers d’Art collection, a pre-fall range of ready-to-wear embellished by the specialty couture ateliers that Chanel owns. He dubbed it “Paris Cosmopolite” to evoke a time when elegant women from the world over converged on the mythic Place Vendôme hotel, established in 1898.
The Rue Cambon house has been a pioneer in staging itinerant shows and has taken its cruise collection as far afield as Seoul and Havana and its Métiers d’Art collection to Dallas, Edinburgh and Salzburg. Lagerfeld typically uses each destination to exalt a facet of the house’s lore — or to invent a new chapter.
But Paris remains a key font of inspiration for Lagerfeld, whose Métiers d’Art effort for Chanel in December 2015 was themed “Paris in Rome.” Staged at Cinecittà film studio No. 5, it boasted a

Dior Said Showing Cruise in Los Angeles

HITTING THE ROAD: Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s new couturier, already has the urge to travel. Word has it she will show her first cruise collection for the house in Los Angeles on May 11. Additional details about the event could not immediately be learned. Dior had taken its couture on the road before, having staged runway shows at Blenheim Palace outside London, at Pierre Cardin’s Bubble Palace and in Monaco. Chiuri, who made her debut at Dior in September after a long career at Valentino, is to unveil her first high-fashion effort in Paris next month.

Havana Ball: Chanel Gives Cruise a Latin Beat

HAVANA – Here’s a little-known fact about Karl Lagerfeld: He’s a massive fan of Latin music, which he reckons is in the throes of a comeback.
“Mambo No. 5” by Xavier Cugat, who popularized the genre in America in the Forties and Fifties, is a particular favorite.
Probably even lesser known is the fact that Lagerfeld was once a cha-cha and tango champion. The German designer took lessons in his early days in Paris at the Georges & Rosy dance academy on the Rue de Varenne, and would practice in nightclubs.
“I won contests,” Lagerfeld said Monday as he put the finishing touches on Chanel’s cruise collection, which he dubbed “Coco Cuba” and paraded Tuesday night on El Paseo del Prado, a handsome tree-lined boulevard framed by four statues of lions, a symbol of Chanel.
The audience took in the open-air show seated on park benches as the Latin beats ricocheted off the handsome buildings, capturing the essence of lively, steamy Havana, where music leaks from open windows at night and dancing can spontaneously erupt on sidewalks.
The collection riffed lightly on Cuban-isms: The neat vertical pleats of guayaberas — typical men’s shirts — were incorporated into Chanel jackets; beach-y colors and slogans were splashed

Paul Haggis Criticizes Journalists For Not Asking Tom Cruise About Scientology

When Tom Cruise was promoting “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” this summer, The Wrap reported that the actor’s PR team banned journalists from asking him about the Church of Scientology, at least in order to secure an interview. Out of those who did talk to Cruise (The Huffington Post was not among them), no one seemed to pop the forbidden questions. Both Salon and The Atlantic questioned why the media, who voraciously covered Alex Gibney’s Scientology doc “Going Clear” (us included) earlier this year, suddenly went soft when it came to interviewing celebrities associated with the Church. Now filmmaker and former Scientologist Paul Haggis is criticizing journalists as well.

I don’t know how journalists can continue to call themselves journalists if they aren’t brave enough to ask a question,” Haggis recently told The Daily Beast in an interview about his new HBO miniseries. The filmmaker resigned from the Church in 2009 and has since been vocal about his experience as a Scientologist,  appearing in “Going Clear.” He said that sometimes movie coverage should come second to asking important questions. “There was this huge elephant there, and every journalist agreed not to address it,” he told The Daily Beast. “Why? You’re just a PR person at that point. Shame on you.”

Gibney’s documentary, which was based on the 2013 Lawrence Wright book of the same name, specifically calls out Cruise and his lack of commentary on the allegations against the Church. At a screening of “Going Clear” in March, Gibney said, “Cruise is the big kahuna and that’s why we’ve gone to the trouble of calling him out. We believe that he has a responsibility to say something about the abuse.”

UPDATE: When asked for comment on Haggis’ remarks, Karin Pouw, a spokesperson for the Church of Scientology, told The Huffington Post in a statement:

“The Church of Scientology has no interest in being exploited to publicize Paul Haggis’s next made-for-TV project or to convince his skeptics that he is relevant again.”

For the full interview with Haggis, head to The Daily Beast.

Smiling Kodiak Takes a Cruise

Smiling Kodiak Takes a Cruise

There’s much to be said for cruising, not that Smiling Kodiak has ever said any of it. To see the Greek Islands in a short time, he discovers having a boat helps. As an American, Smiling Kodiak knows how to squeeze too much into a short vacation. A Mediterranean cruise is a marvel of efficiency, like having a mobile floating second-rate Las Vegas casino hotel magically deliver you to a new world every morning. The disadvantage is that you wake up in a mobile floating second-rate Las Vegas casino hotel. In Smiling Kodiak Takes a Cruise, Smiling Kodiak leaves his Australian home to experience the wonders of the Middle East, Rome, the Greek Islands, and Turkey – with 3,500 other passengers expecting the time of their lives. As with casinos, there will be more losers than winners. Smiling Kodiak Takes a Cruise is no guidebook. It provides insights and anecdotes that you may find hilarious, shocking, offensive, poignant, bizarre – perhaps all of the above. But travel isn’t about where you go or how you get there, it’s about what unfolds.

9 Gorgeous Things to See From Dior’s Cruise 2016 Show

The Dior cruise 2016 show just happened in Cannes and from the location to the clothes to the celebrity guests, it was gorgeous.

The show was held at Pierre Cardin’s famous Palais Bulles (Palace of Bubbles) outside of Cannes.

With infinity pools, palm trees, and the blue sea in the background, showgoers basically had the most gorgeous view, ever.

The entire collection had plenty of prints, including lots of stripes. Lines were done bright and thick, but also faded and on sporty net material (seen in the foreground).

The bright squiggles we saw for fall 2015 are carried through and amped up, done for resort on warm-weather dresses instead of coats.

The styling most likely to influence your own closet in the future? This pairing of a black blazer, worn buttoned up to allow only the tiniest peek of a fun, flirty skirt to brighten things up.

Itinerary Luggage Tag (Cruise and Air Travel)

Itinerary Luggage Tag (Cruise and Air Travel)

Help your luggage get to the next destination by having your itinerary printed discretely on the inside of our sturdy, vinyl luggage tag. On the front of the luggage tag are instructions to the baggage handlers to open the document in the event your luggage gets misplaced. Whether you’re cruising or flying, having the date and flight number of each destination, or the name of your ship, etc. will enable the airlines to get your luggage to you while traveling instead of sending it back to your home. Our luggage tag holder thus serves a dual purpose. Use the Itinerary document inside when flying, and replace with your paper luggage tags if you are cruising. Simple folding and printing instructions are printed on the document to make it easy for you to fill in the pertinent information such as your flights, hotels, cruise destinations, etc. We recommend you include a cell phone number where you can be reached while traveling.

Astors Maiden Cruise around the world 1987-1988

Astors Maiden Cruise around the world 1987-1988

Mauritius in the late 1980?s, unemployment is at its peak and a young girl gets the amazing opportunity to travel leaving behind her bleak job in a textile factory. A whole Mauritian crew of one hundred and fifty is recruited to form the hotel staff of a brand new cruise ship, the Astor which flies the Mauritian flag and is due for a three month maiden voyage from the port of Southampton in England to Genoa in Italy around the South America Coast to Peru and the Caribbean islands. Their difficulty to adapt to European food and misery of seasickness is compensated by the luxury of their new living quarters and fascination seeing so many wonderful places. The cabin stewardesses Mela, Bianca, Nicoleta and other members of the crew tour this great world stunned by the beauty of Norwegian Glaciers and fjords, the greatness of the Amazon River and awed at Jerusalem and the holy land. Souvenirs of unpalatable pizza in Portugal, encounter with rude Spanish horse carriage drivers in Malaga, meeting with a Togolese in Hamburg, a Pakistanis in Montreal are evoked. They befriend Turkish students in Ankara, eat delicious baby octopus salads in the Balearic Islands and dive in cold seas of the Mediterranean and warm lagoons of the Indian Ocean. In French speaking countries they delight in using their familiar Creole with people of Haiti and Jamaica and enjoy the different French accents of Montreal and Quebec in Canada, Casablanca in Morocco, and Dakar in Senegal. They dance in the nightclubs of the world, moving to South American music in Salvador de Bahia and carnival music in Rio de Janeiro, Whitney Houston?s 1987 tube? I want to dance with somebody? in Montreal and Mediterranean rhythms in Greece.

Tom Cruise Isn’t Jumping On Couches Anymore, He’s Hanging Off Planes

In case you didn’t know: Tom Cruise does his own stunts.

And for his latest trick, the 52-year-old actor — wearing a tailored gray suit and dress shoes — clings to the fuselage of an Airbus A400M as it soars 5,000 feet in the air, according to The Daily Mail. Why did he do this, you may ask? Well, for his most recent turn as spy Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible 5,” of course.

Granted Cruise was strapped in with two safety harnesses as he flew over rural British airspace, but, come on, who allowed one of world’s most beloved and revered actors to do this? (We’d like to check their heart rate.)

It’s nothing new for the action star, though: Cruise dangled 1,700 feet from the side of the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, for 2011’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

“The reason that I do [the stunts] is, it’s a challenge, but it’s also a part of storytelling,” Cruise said during a press conference for “Ghost Protocol.” “It’s something that I do because I feel for the audience, that they’ll really enjoy it more if they see me doing it in the camera. And I think that it adds a wonderful element of storytelling and that’s really the reason why we push ourselves both in telling the story and in doing those things to make it as exciting for the audience as possible.”

Harrie Irving Hancock (1866/8-1922) was an American chemist and writer, mainly remembered as an author of children’s literature and juveniles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A prolific author who liked to work at night, Hancock wrote for the New York Journal, the New York World, and Leslie’s Weekly. He was a journalist for the Boston Globe, served as a war correspondent in Cuba and the Philippines during the Spanish-American War, and produced more than 50 serials for Norman Munro’s juvenile magazine Golden Hours between 1889 and 1901. His output included westerns, detective stories, historical adventures and several series of books for boys. He also published books on physical fitness and an Encyclopedia of Knowledge and Manners, and served as the editor of a History of West Point. He is perhaps best known for his four-book series The Invasion of the United States (1916), which depicted a fictional invasion of the USA by Germany in 1920-21 – reflecting, and to some degree helping to intensify, the shift of American public opinion towards getting involved in the First World War.
