Games Launching Next Week: Final Fantasy X, World War Z, Cuphead, and More

While no major new AAA titles are launching next week, we’ll see a nice smattering of ports and smaller games landing on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Cuphead iOS Release Is a Scam

Update: Studio MDHR has announced that the app is a fake, and is currently working to have it removed from the App Store.

Out of nowhere, Cuphead seemed to become an iOS game today – except it’s almost certainly a scam.

The surprise appearance of an App Store listing for the game – at the very reasonable price of £4.99 / $ 4.99 – set Twitter abuzz that Studio MDHR had offered up a Christmas treat. Sadly, it was too good/weird to be true.

IGN has confirmed that the support website listed on the App Store is a cloned version of the official Cuphead page, created in October of this year (i.e. after the game’s initial release) and hosted on a small Hungarian web hosting service. Elements of how the page displays – such as the YouTube dropdown menu’s default language – appear to indicate the scam originates from Hungary, too.

I Barely Beat The Easiest Level of Cuphead

Listen, it could have even been the tutorial, I’m not sure. But whatever it was, it was an early level, and it was absolutely brutal.  I’d never played Cuphead before –  in fact I think I’m the only person I know who hasn’t – and as I began my journey through a simple forest area it felt pretty natural and intuitive. It is a platformer steeped in history, after all.

But then the enemies started flying at me from all angles, many of them spitting rocks and other deadly projectiles. I kept forgetting you can’t jump on them, it’s a run and gun action platformer, so I had to spin right and left constantly, then shoot up, then shoot down, then jump to avoid an oncoming leapy guy. My health bar was at four, then three, then two, then one. I died. I died again. I died again.

Just Played Cuphead – E3 2015 Impressions
