“It is with deep love and respect that we are choosing to separate as a couple,” the statement begins. “We’ve had an incredible journey together, we love each other very much, and will remain the best of friends. We are grateful for the six wonderful years together but have decided to go our own separate ways to have the most fulfilled, joyous lives we can.”

The two have collaborated on projects like The Green Inferno, Knock, Knock and Hemlock Grove. Roth has turned to producing and directing in recent years while Izzo turned from modeling to acting in horror films.

Kim Kardashian West Says Her Kids Don’t Know She’s Famous: They ‘Have No Clue’

She’s a household name all over the world — except in her very own home.

According to Kim Kardashian West, her three kids with husband Kanye West — daughters North, 5, Chicago, 5 months, and son Saint, 2½ — are pretty much in the dark about their mom and dad’s level of fame.

“It’s pretty intense, but at home I’m not known,” she recently told ITV’s This Morning. “My kids have no clue what’s going on. So I don’t really feel it — I spend most of my time at home.”

RELATED: Feel the Love! See Kim, Kanye, North, Saint & Chicago’s Cutest Pics

When it comes to her mom and sisters, however, 37-year-old Kardashian West said they do reflect on how much their lives have changed in recent years.

“We do talk about how crazy our life has been over the past decade,” she said. “And we’re so grateful. We’re so appreciative, and I mean, we’re still exactly the same.”

Want all the latest pregnancy and birth announcements, plus celebrity mom blogs? Click here to get those and more in the PEOPLE Babies newsletter.

During the 10th anniversary special of Keeping Up with the Kardashians last year, Kardashian West and her family opened up about allowing their significant others and children to appear on camera, with Kourtney Kardashian, 39, noting that “the boundaries are always changing.”

“We’ll definitely go through moments where we’re like, ‘Cut the kids way back,’ ” she explained.

“It’s funny now that Mason is getting older,” said Khloé Kardashian, 33, of Kourtney and Scott Disick‘s 8-year-old son. “He knows. He doesn’t watch it, but I’ve heard him talk to his friends and say, ‘I’m on a TV show called Keeping Up with the Kardashians.’ I’m like, how does he know that?!”

“Mason calls the filmers,” said Kourtney. “He used to be like, ‘Are the filmers coming? I want to show them my Legos that I’m building.’ Now he’s in a phase where he’s like, ‘I don’t like when the filmers are over.’ ”

For her part, Kardashian West said appearing on KUWTK is “such a personal choice.”

“You can fall in love with someone, and it’s not their job to be on our show,” she said. “Kanye respects what I do and sometimes he’s on, if he happens to be there, or will let us film if we’re at a concert. At first we were like, ‘Our kids will never be on, my daughter is not going to be on.’ But she’s always around me and she’s so cute, so I just want people to see a little bit. It’s never a story revolving them or about them or anything too personal. We know that we signed up for this, but our kids did not.”

Bridget Foley’s Diary: Don’t Ask, Just Sell

‘Leadership, social consciousness, corporate vision. One could spend eons pondering their components. What wouldn’t cross the frontal lobe: burying one’s head in the sand in the face of uncomfortable questions.
Yet that, it seems, is the retail way, at least across broad swaths of the industry. In preparing a piece on the current state of the fur industry, published last Thursday, WWD approached 22 retailers around the world for their points of view. Only nine were willing to address the subject. Subtracting out the fur-free contingent, that number fell to four.
Those out of the fur business: YNAP, David Jones and Myer, by choice, and Maxfield and Fred Segal, by West Hollywood municipal mandate. Chief executive officer Allison Samek noted that Fred Segal has expanded the fur-free ethos to its other outlets as well. Dropping fur, everything from handbag charms to trimmed parkas to major outerwear, is a huge move. Whatever each organization’s specific arrival process, it must have also been a tough one that involved some loss of business. Yet all made and are at peace with their decisions. For those who sell fur, the topic is more challenging to discuss. Holt Renfrew president Mario Grauso and Matchesfashion ceo Ulric Jerome

Kourtney Kardashian Cracks Down on Scott Disick’s Behavior: ‘I Don’t Want the Kids to See Him Like This’

Kourtney Kardashian isn’t happy with Scott Disick‘s behavior on this season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

In a sneak peek at Sunday’s episode, Kourtney, 38, escapes Los Angeles for a California road trip with her sisters — but she can’t escape the ongoing drama with her ex.

In one scene, Khloé, 33, urges her sister to give Disick, 34, some “tough love.”

“I don’t want the kids to see him like this,” admits Kourtney, who shares three children with Disick: son Mason, 7, daughter Penelope, 5, and son Reign, 2.

This season, Kourtney and Disick — who were together for nine years before she officially ended things in 2015 — have been at odds over Disick’s partying, combined with his refusal to accept that Kourtney is moving on with her life.

“How is it that she’s allowed to throw up in bed and I have to go to rehab if I do something like that?” Disick — who has struggled with alcohol abuse — said in an earlier episode after his ex celebrated her birthday by taking a wild girls trip to Mexico in April.

“Kourtney having a good time makes me happy,” he said. “But of course, in the back of my heart and mind I get a little jealous, because I wish we could have had some of those times while we were together.”

RELATED VIDEO: Scott Disick Is ‘Jealous’ of Kourtney Kardashian Partying on Birthday Trip to Mexico

In the two and a half years since their split, Disick has regularly been spotted cozying up to different women in Los Angeles, New York City and abroad — most recently with 19-year-old Sofia Richie, whom a source recently told PEOPLE is calling Disick her “boyfriend.”

Kourtney, meanwhile, is dating 24-year-old Younes Bendjima — and in the KUWTK 10th anniversary special (which aired last month but was taped in April), she indicated that she and Disick aren’t likely to reconcile.

“I guess we’re co-parenting our kids and just trying to get along,” she said. “He’s family. But I mean, we’re definitely psychotic.”

“The debauchery that’s gone on has definitely closed the door several billion times,” she added. “He for a time period, he can’t be consistent.”

“Here’s the thing,” Disick said. “Every time I become too good of a person, she stops loving me, because she fell in love with a person who was a little bit f—ed up. I treat you like royalty, you don’t say hello to me. I spit in your face, you’re like, ‘Hey babe.’ ”

Angelina Jolie Opens Up in New Interview: ‘I Don’t Enjoy Being Single’

Angelina Jolie is opening up about life after her split from Brad Pitt.

In a new interview with the Sunday Telegraph, the 42-year-old star — who filed for divorce from Pitt last year after a 12-year relationship and two-year marriage — admits that the process has taken a heavy emotional toll on her.

“Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together,” she says. “But really I am just trying to get through my days.”

“I don’t enjoy being single,” she adds. “It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard.”

Jolie, who underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2013, had her ovaries removed in 2015 and last year, in addition to hypertension, developed Bell’s Palsy, says her health issues have also been weighing on her.

“Emotionally it’s been a very difficult year,” she says. “And I have some other health issues. So my health is something I have to monitor.”

“I feel sometimes that my body has taken a hit, but I try to laugh as much as possible,” she adds. “We tend to get so stressed that our children feel our stress when they need to feel our joy. Even if you are going through chemo, you need to find the ability to love and laugh. It may sound like a postcard, but it’s true.”

FROM PEN: Nicole Kidman Learned a ‘Great Life Lesson’ from Baz Luhrmann During Her Divorce

Jolie also discussed her latest directorial offering, First They Killed My Father, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on Saturday and received high praise.

The film is an adaptation of Loung Ung‘s 2000 memoir of the Khmer Rouge genocide, which was responsible for the class-driven murders of millions of Cambodians between 1975 and 1978. The story holds a special significance for Jolie and her eldest son Maddox, now 16, whom she adopted in Cambodia when he was three months old.

“Mad has known of Loung’s story his whole life, and I told him, ‘One day, son, you will be ready and you will tell me it’s time to go deeply into your country. But I need your help and you have to work and you have to be there every day and you can’t say no and that you are tired,’ ” Jolie recalls. “And one day he said, ‘I am ready.’ ”

Now, Jolie says she has no immediate plans for either acting or directing — but instead is focusing on life at home with her six children.

“I am going to cooking classes,” she says. “Cooking is one of those things you do when you are settled in your life and you can take the time. But somehow I am just very impatient and I am a little bit erratic.”

“But I am getting into it now,” she adds. “I feel like, if I cook, the kids can all hang out. Although they often take over and tell me that they can do it better.”

And kitchen skills aside, Jolie admits there is more she wants to work on.

“I think now I need to rediscover a little bit of the old me,” she says. “I think we lose our way a bit. I have had a lot happen in my life, from certain people passing to health issues to raising the children. And it’s been a very good time to absorb and develop and grow.”

“But maybe now that my kids are growing up I am starting to realize that my own sense of play has been put on hold for a while,” she continues. “And maybe them hitting their teens is going to bring out a little more fun in Mom. So maybe I am going back. It may be time.”

“I strongly urge all Texans to heed warnings from your local officials and I also urge that you immediately follow evacuation orders for all impacted counties — particularly in the Corpus Christi and Houston areas where the storm surges and flooding from Hurricane Harvey are most likely,” Gov. Greg Abott said in a statement.

Harvey, which is expected to touch down Friday night or early Saturday morning along the Texas Gulf Coast, is expected to bring up to 35 inches of rain, CNN reports. Flood waters and destructive waves could reach heights of up to 12 feet along the Texas coast.

The storm, currently Category 2, is expected to become a Category 3 hurricane by time it makes landfall with winds of more than 100 mph, CNN reports. As it strengthens, forecasters said Harvey will be the nation’s first Category 3 hurricane to make landfall in nearly 12 years, according to The Weather Channel.

Officials have labeled Harvey a “life-threatening storm” that will put millions of people in a “grave risk,” the Associated Press reports.

“Please take all necessary precautions to save your life and to minimize risks,” Gov. Abott added in the statement. “Don’t take any chances and evacuate when you are ordered.”

Now, local businesses in the storms path are shutting down and residents are clearing out grocery stores in preparation. Meanwhile, Corpus Christi’s Driscoll Children’s Hospital was airlifting 10 sick, premature babies from its neonatal intensive care unit to a hospital in Fort Worth, according to the AP.

The infants were expected to arrive at the hospital by early Friday and an official told the publication that hospital staff feared that power outages at the Corpus Christie hospital might disable the babies’ ventilators.

Daring Rescues in the Wake of Hurricane Matthew

Abott has requested that 700 National Guard members be activated for the storm and Ports of Corpus Christi and Galveston are closed, according to CNN.

Residents lined up during the week to catch buses to safer areas and roads were packed with backpack-carrying residents heading out of town.

“I’m shaking inside, but for them, I’m trying to be strong,” a Corpus Christi mother of two said, according to CNN.

Wife of American Barcelona Victim Speaks Out: ‘I Don’t Want to Wake Up Without Him Next to Me

The wife of the California man who died after a van attack in Barcelona, Spain, on Thursday said she feels “empty” without him.

In a sit-down with NBC News, Heidi Nunes-Tucker, 40, opened up about losing husband Jared Tucker, 42, during their first wedding anniversary trip through Italy, France and Spain.

“I’d found my person: truly the love of my life. That was obvious to anybody that knew us or saw us,” she said. “And I don’t know that you find that again, and I don’t know that I want to.”

Nunes-Tucker shared that she is struggling to cope with the fact that she won’t have her husband beside her for the everyday events.

“I don’t want to wake up without him next to me, and I don’t want to watch TV without him,” she explained. “All of it is just going to be a lot more empty.”

Nunes-Tucker said that the duo were stopping for sangria at a café on the popular street of La Rambla on their way to the beach. They separated when Tucker went to find a bathroom.

“No more than … 30 seconds to a minute after he left, all mayhem broke out and people were screaming and crying and running,” Nunes-Tucker said.

A van had begun plowing through pedestrians, ultimately killing 13 and injuring scores more.

She was pushed inside the souvenir kiosk and stayed there hiding until the chaos was over. Afterwards, she was unable to find Tucker.

Nunes-Tucker felt a sense of hope when she saw a photo of her husband after the attack appearing to receive helped by someone. However, that optimism shattered when she went to a police station and cops revealed Tucker had died in the attack.

“It’s hard not to be angry,” she said. “It’s confusing why anybody would want to hurt anybody like that. Why would you want to hurt strangers? Why would you want to hurt anybody?”

Tucker, who was excited to share this special anniversary trip with his soul mate, never mentioned any hesitation about visiting Europe, despite it being the target of a series of deadly terror attacks in recent years, according to a close friend.

“He didn’t live a life afraid, he didn’t have fear of anything,” Billy Claraty told PEOPLE. “He took things head on all the time and thought he would get through it. They were just out to celebrate one year and have a great time and see some friends.”

In September of 2012 at an art and wine festival in Lafayette, California, Tucker opened his heart to Nunes, a teacher and the mother of a teenage son.

“When he met her, it was immediate, they both knew,” says Claraty. “Heidi was his total life, they had a great, amazing relationship. He had a bumpy road for awhile with past relationships and once he met Heidi that turned around for him.”

A website set up for his wedding to Nunes shows they were married on Aug. 6, 2016, after becoming engaged on Sept. 10, 2015.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Tucker’s family to cover funeral costs and help raise money to go towards his daughters’ education.

Don’t Even Think About Sharing That Photo Of Jessica Chastain’s Wedding Dress

On Saturday, Jessica Chastain tied the knot with fashion executive (and down-low member of Italian royalty) Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo in a private ceremony at the groom’s family estate in northern Italy. The bride wore white; attendees included fellow actors Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Edgar Ramirez.

That’s about all the Oscar nominee wanted the public to know. But during the wedding, paparazzi photos were taken from helicopters without the actress’ consent, making the internet rounds and turning an intimate moment into gossip fodder.

In response to this invasion of privacy, the “Zero Dark Thirty” star confirmed her marriage and slammed the paparazzi in a note shared on social media Tuesday night that included a special request to her followers.

“Did you hear? I’m off the market,” Chastain wrote, alongside a longer statement. “Gianluca & I got married! We wanted privacy & aren’t selling photos but I’ll post something in the future.”

She continued:

Thank you for all the sweet comments about my wedding. I love you and it was a beautiful day. I am going to ask you to please stop sharing the photos. Helicopters disregarded a no-fly zone & took those pics during the ceremony. Every time I see them I’m reminded of the insensitivity of that moment. I promise that I will share pics with you in the future, but I would prefer to share photos that celebrate love, not intrusion. I’m off social media for a few weeks. Much love and happiness to all of you.

Chastain’s stance makes sense given that she’s remained incredibly private about her relationship with Passi de Preposulo up until this point. The two have dated for nearly five years, but the actress has only given snippets of information to media outlets here and there.

Aside from revealing that she’s “very, very happy” with Passi de Preposulo, she told Extra in 2013 that it’s “a wonderful thing when a career does so well and your personal life goes so well.”

So, to make a long story short, stop, drop and scrap that wedding photo collage you already made until official photos are released. If watching half of “Miss Sloane” before falling asleep on a transatlantic flight taught us anything, it is that you do not, under any circumstances, mess with Jessica Chastain.

Don’t Believe These Fake News Stories About The Ariana Grande Concert Attack

Fake news swept across the internet in the aftermath of a deadly explosion at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, on Monday night.

An attacker killed 22 people and injured dozens more, police say. Many used social media to offer and appeal for help, others used it as an opportunity to troll and put out false information.

Reports that a gunman was on the loose at a nearby hospital, that Grande had been injured in the blast and that she had immediately retired from music all circulated within hours of the explosion which British police are treating as a terrorist incident.

Here’s a round up of the fake news stories to watch out for so far:

Parents, Please Don’t Assume Your Kids Are Invited To The Wedding

The rules of wedding etiquette are constantly changing, making it difficult for modern brides, grooms and guests to find up-to-date and correct information. That’s why we launched #MannersMondays, a series in which we ask our followers on Facebook to submit their most burning etiquette-related questions. Then, with the help of our team of etiquette experts, we get you the right answers to your biggest Big Day dilemmas. Check out this week’s question below!

“What do I do about parents RSVPing with their children when it was specifically stated that only the parents are invited?” ― Travis

Amber HarrisonWedding Papers Divas‘ resident etiquette expert — is here to help us answer this week’s question. Here’s what she had to say:

Unfortunately this is a situation that happens too often. As a refresher, the best way to clearly communicate which family members are invited is by listing each of their names on the invitation envelope. The omission of a child’s name means that it is an adult-only affair.

There are plenty of times when this subtle message goes unrecognized. If this happens to you, the best course of action is a phone call, and the sooner the better. While it might be uncomfortable for you, don’t put this one off. The longer you wait, the harder it will be for the parents to accept – and to make arrangements for childcare! Call these guests and explain candidly that the invitation was just meant for them. Once you’ve made a decision about kids at your wedding, stick with it. Exceptions will only cause questions and hurt feelings from other guests.

Jimmy Kimmel Shows Trumpcare Supporters Don’t Know A Lot About Trumpcare

It’s a good thing these people are into Trumpcare. They’re gonna need it after Jimmy Kimmel left them burned.

Health care has been a hot topic on Kimmel’s show recently, and it was a focus again with the House of Representatives passing the American Health Care Act, which many have been calling Trumpcare for short.

To address this, Kimmel sent his crew out to find people who are Trump supporters. After finding these people, the crew made up a bunch of awful-sounding provisions in Trumpcare to see what supporters would say.

Unsurprisingly, they’re into it. From veterinarians performing surgeries on people to Uber drivers taking people to hospitals, they’re all for it.

All we gotta say is if an Uber driver is taking us to the hospital, they better have a 5-star rating.

”Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Women In The U.S. Don’t Live In A Dystopian Hellscape. Yet.

You’d have to be fairly clueless about the current political moment not to feel a shiver of recognition watching “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the new dystopian drama on Hulu.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bestselling novel, the show debuted Wednesday after weeks of politically fueled anticipation. The timing is apt. The action takes place in Gilead, a fictional future America that has been taken over by a fundamentalist group of men who systematically strip away women’s rights.

That description might remind viewers of President Donald Trump’s first Monday in office when, surrounded by other men, he signed off on the global gag rule ― an anti-abortion order that restricts women’s reproductive rights around the world. Or, perhaps it also brings to mind Vice President Mike Pence, who chooses not to socialize alone with women who are not his wife.

Even Trump fanatics saw the connection, calling the show anti-Trump propaganda.

But there’s plenty of reason to believe American women are not headed toward the extreme fate faced by their fictional counterparts, whose highest purpose is to serve their husbands and bear children ― and if they can’t do the latter, so-called handmaids are forced to serve as surrogates.

That’s not us. The resistance in the U.S. is very much alive and well. And in the first 100 days of the Trump administration, it’s been remarkably effective. Indeed, just last week ― under pressure from activists energized by the election ― Fox News was forced to oust longtime star news host Bill O’Reilly, who was under fire for sexually harassing women.

Other executives at the network seem to be headed for the chopping block, as well. It’s a sign that even at one of the most conservative, pro-Trump companies in the country, women are finally being heard.

Paradoxically, O’Reilly’s ouster seemed to be made possible by Trump’s election. Putting a man in office who’d been accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women didn’t scare anyone into silence ― it sparked a massive wave of outrage, energy and activism.

So much so that Trump’s first nominee for labor secretary, Andy Puzder, was forced to withdraw his name from consideration after decades-old domestic violence allegations resurfaced.

The day after the inauguration, millions of women took to the streets in dozens of major cities around the world wearing pink pussy hats and decrying the patriarchy. The marches were largely peaceful.

There’s more: The first shot at Obamacare repeal ― which would have left so many women without health care ― didn’t work. His anti-immigration orders have been stopped by the courts, with the help of a huge number of female immigration lawyers, as New York magazine noted.

Emily’s List, the nonprofit progressive group that helps women run for office, says it has seen an “unprecedented” level in interest since November.

What is happening now in the United States is actually real progress for women.

It’s easy to forget that up until the 1990s, it was still legal for a husband to rape his wife. Until the 1970s, a woman accusing someone of raping her wasn’t considered a reliable witness in court (a situation eerily recalled in a terrible courtroom scene in a later episode of the Hulu show). And we haven’t even noted how women’s rights are curtailed around the world.

Of course, there’s no doubt that putting a misogynist in the Oval Office is an enormous setback. There’s not a single woman in Trump’s inner circle, aside from his daughter, Ivanka Trump, and a spokeswoman, Kellyanne Conway, who’s been recently silenced. Only 23 percent of his White House staff is female.

But he’s hardly alone. There are only 21 women who run Fortune 500 companies out of 500. Congress is 81 percent male

Despite progress, women in the U.S. still have a frighteningly long way to go.

The overwhelming majority of married women in this country still take their husband’s names, some without questioning why. And only recently, a Republican state representative from Oklahoma referred to women as “hosts” for fetuses.

More troubling? A majority of white women voters went for Trump, an echo of “Handmaid’s Tale,” too. In the book, elite white women ― the wives of the new political leaders ― seem to be true believers in the new world. Internalized sexism is a modern-day plague.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” came out in 1985, a perfect comment for those times, when Reagan-era conservatives were working feverishly to restore “traditional” values, i.e., restricting women’s reproductive rights, demonizing single mothers (particularly ones of color) and generally making it harder for women to choose to work outside the home. The Hulu show got the green light before Trump’s candidacy turned real.

Atwood, for her part, based the book on real historical examples.

“One of my rules was that I would not put any events into the book that had not already happened in what James Joyce called the nightmare of history,” Atwood explained in the New York Times this year. She explains that she’s grounded the book and its setting in 17th century puritanical American values (remember those witch trials).

One of Atwood’s favorite signs at the Toronto women’s march read “I can’t believe I’m still holding this fucking sign,” the 77-year-old author told The New Yorker.

When asked whether her book is a prediction for our future, Atwood offers hope and a warning.

“No, it isn’t a prediction, because predicting the future isn’t really possible: There are too many variables and unforeseen possibilities,” she writes.  “Let’s say it’s an antiprediction: If this future can be described in detail, maybe it won’t happen. But such wishful thinking cannot be depended on either.”

Progress does not happen in a straight line. Setbacks are inevitable. What’s critical is what comes next.

John Oliver Warns France: ‘Don’t ‘F**k Up’ And Elect A French Trump

John Oliver wants Americans to care about next week’s election in France because the fate of Europe may hang in the balance.

“That’s right,” Oliver said on Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight.” “The fate of Europe rests in the hands of a country that looks at snails and says, ‘I have got to get you in my mouth.’”

Oliver profiled several of the candidates, including Marine Le Pen, head of the right-wing National Front and a candidate some have compared to President Donald Trump

“She is the main reason you should be invested in this election,” Oliver told his U.S. audience.

Like Trump, Le Pen is running on an anti-immigration platform. Oliver showed a clip of her comparing immigrants to people who move into your home, remove the wallpaper, “steal your wallet and brutalize your wife.”

“Hold on,” Oliver said. “Brutalizing your wife and stealing your wallet, again, that’s just boilerplate racism. But ‘people are coming to take my wallpaper’ is something a crazy person says. No one wants your wallpaper, you catastrophically weird person.”

Oliver also compared Le Pen to Trump:

“A potentially destabilizing populist campaigning on anti-immigrant rhetoric who rages against the elites despite having a powerful father and inherited wealth even as all the experts reassure us that there is no way this could possibly happen.”

Oliver then made a special appeal to the people of France.

Check it out above.

Why Naya Rivera Regrets Dyeing Her Hair a Month After Giving Birth: ‘Don’t Buy Into the Mommy Makeover!’

When former Glee actress Naya Rivera became pregnant with her first son, 18-month-old Josey, she expected “to grow the best mane of hair” from the pregnancy hormones. But for her – and tons of other new moms – just the opposite happened.

“That did not happen at all. After breastfeeding, what I was left with was breakage in certain areas from the drop in hormones,” says Rivera, who just partnered with the haircare brand Nioxin as its celebrity ambassador. “It was definitely thin on the ends and certain places like my widow’s peak would be a little more up in my face.”

RELATED PHOTOS: UPDATED! Celeb Hair Makeovers: Better Before or After?

Just a month after giving birth, the actress decided to get bright blonde highlights in her hair to give herself a boost of confidence from the hair thinning — but warns other moms not to do the same.

“I did probably the worst thing you could do in that situation, which is then go dye it,” she told us. “I made the problem worse and paid the price for that. I’d tell new moms, ‘Don’t dye it yet!’ Don’t buy into the whole mommy makeover thing, because you will regret it.”

She attempted to treat her hair breakage and thinning with anything she could think of. “I was trying everything from carrot seed oil on a hairbrush to full-blown coconut oil treatments every single day. I even went back on my prenatals long after I had stopped breastfeeding to try to get back whatever juices were flowing out of my body,” Rivera said.

But it wasn’t until her friend introduced her to Nioxin’s thickening shampoo that she started to see a difference. “I started to see results and experimenting with a bunch of their other products,” the star said, which is why her partnership with the brand seemed like a natural, organic fit.

Now, almost two years after Josey was born, Rivera said she finally feels like she’s getting back into her “hair groove” and embracing her natural color instead of using extensions and dying it so often.

“I just feel like it’s healthy again. I stopped dyeing it and cutting it and experimenting with all these different things,” she said. “I sort of went back to my roots if you will, and I am happier that way.”

Have you ever dealt with hair thinning problems like Naya? Tell us what you do for it in the comments below.

Gwyneth Paltrow on Working Out Almost Every Day: ‘I Definitely Don’t Always Feel Like Doing It!’

Gwyneth Paltrow has credited her near-daily workouts for looking young and feeling strong, but admits she’s not always in the mood to hit the gym.

“I like feeling good, and I know I feel my best when I exercise. But it depends on the day — I definitely don’t always feel like doing it,” the actress and lifestyle guru, 44, tells Women’s Health in the April issue. “I’ve made it a habit, just like brushing your teeth. That’s how you have to look at it.”

Paltrow swears by the Tracy Anderson Method for keeping in shape.

“I’ve been a Tracy Anderson fanatic for over a decade, I’m an investor in her company, so yeah, I go every morning,” she says. “I drop the kids at school, work out, go to work.”

In addition to a disciplined workout regiment, Paltrow sticks to a pretty clean diet to stay feeling her best. However, she lets herself indulge when she wants to.

“I have a pretty healthy diet, so when I’m eating processed foods and not watching my alcohol intake, I feel it. But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun — pleasure!” she says. “You’re going to have a baguette-and-cheese-and-red-wine frenzy sometimes, but you want it to be a choice you’re awake to: ‘I know this might not make me feel great, but today I’m choosing it anyway.’ ”

Paltrow also spoke to the magazine about how she deals with being judged.

“When someone doesn’t like something you do, or doesn’t share your interest in something, that doesn’t have anything to do with you,” she says. “One of the best things someone ever said to me was that the only time criticism hurts is if you have a judgment about yourself about that very thing.”

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox Warns Donald Trump: ‘Don’t Mess Around With Us’

Mexico’s former president Vicente Fox has issued some stern words of warning to President Donald Trump.

“Don’t mess around with us Señor Trump, because if you look for it, you’re going to find it,” he said on a special Mexico edition of Conan O’Brien’s late night show that aired Wednesday.

Fox arrived for the interview bearing a gift of cowboy boots for O’Brien, after earlier trolling Trump on Twitter during his first major speech to congress Tuesday.

The shoes were inscribed with the words “No Fucking Wall” — in reference to his oft-repeated statement that Mexico would not pay for Trump’s proposed southern border barrier.

Fox cited the failure of the Berlin Wall that once divided the German city as an example of such barriers not working, before describing the people of the United States and Mexico as “neighbors,” “friends,” “partners” and “roommates.”

Many Mexicans are doing great work in and for the United States, he stressed. “And now they wanna kick them in the ass and throw them out,” Fox said of the U.S. policy. “That’s gonna be a big, big loss for United States.”

Fox, who was Mexico’s president from 2000 to 2006, also had some words of advice for Trump ― should he care to heed them.

“If he wants to negotiate we have to go for the whole enchilada, not just one piece,” said Fox. “He has to learn that we are his best friends and partners.”

Check out the full interview above.

Rats Beware: These Broom-Toting College Students Don’t Mess Around

This plan is as elaborate as the Mousetrap board game.

A group of college roommates attending Duquesene University in Pittsburgh faced a daunting problem when a large rat moved in to their space. Instead of cowering in fear at the threat ― like many would ― they banded together to defeat the “Rat King.”

Their plan required patience, precision, and a ridiculously clutch sweep of a broom. The women blocked off the “Rat King’s” route and prepared for battle.

“We were all freaking out,” Jody Mackin told Buzzfeed News.

After they set the trap, Mackin and her friends sprung into action. Video shows the rat flopping down the stairs like a rag doll before the boyfriend of one of the roommates sweets the animal outside.

Many Twitter users hailed the women as heroes for creating the ingenious trap.

But some felt sorry for the rat.

But many were happy that the rodent escaped intact.

Sorry, You Don’t Actually Have A Year To Send A Wedding Gift

You may have heard somewhere that guests have up to a year after the wedding to send a gift to the newlywed couple.

These days, though, etiquette experts insist that a year is way, way too long to wait.

“A year is a long time and a lot can change!” Amber Harrison of Wedding Paper Divas told The Huffington Post. “For example, it is totally possible that the couple might be making a big cross-country move or welcoming a new baby one year after the wedding, in which case receiving a wedding gift might feel out of place.”

So how long is the window, really?

“Guidance for proper timing of the gift is not as clear cut,” Harrison added. “Gifts are welcome and appropriate at any time before the wedding and even at the reception. It is perfectly fine for gifts to also arrive after the wedding, but it should be soon enough that the wedding is still top of mind. There are always exceptions to the rule, but sending a gift more than a month or two after the wedding is probably too long.”

There you have it.

Don’t Quit Social Media

2017-01-17-1484680456-6848554-yxvkh7n8asojacobwalti.jpg

I’m back!

I spent nearly half a year without Facebook (had access to Facebook Messenger), Linkedin, Twitter and other social networks. No media as well, except financial outlets for work reasons. In other words, all this time I lived in digital abstinence and isolation.

The result? You tell me. I didn’t experience a bliss or found a deeper meaning of life. My happiness dropped, productivity stayed flat at best. I lost touch with reality and couldn’t separate my work from my personal life. I lost connection with my friends, motivation, and aspirations.

We all know it, but this experience drilled it into me once and for all: Humans are just wired to connect. Yet, in this technology-driven, globalized word, we interact in person less.

Social media and messaging apps won’t replace face-to-face interaction, but you want it or not, now that’s the way it is. It’s the new means of communication that will only take a bigger part of our lives as we move forward in this age. You have to embrace it.

The problem is not the medium but its addictive and toxic nature. For some reason – I’m sure scientists have already answered that – people get hooked on this thing really bad.

There’s also a lot of noise out there. The bulk of information is worthless and emotionally harmful. The intent behind most updates is just a self-seeking cry for recognition, praise, support, admiration, validation, which adds no value to your life.

But there are also people who broadcast beautiful things. Thoughts that inspire and challenge your perspective. Successes that drive competition in a positive way. Conversations that lead change. Personalities that put a smile on your face.

Why should I and you miss out on all of this?

We don’t quit the world because there are bad people out there. We ignore and avoid them. People on social media are the same, the medium is just different.

Isolation is no answer, that’s my main takeaway here. I’m sorry but that’s all I’ve got. There’s no point to quit social media entirely, just on principle. Just because some people say stupid things. That’s selfish, stupid, and adds no value.

Instead, mute the toxic noise in your feed and follow people who push you forward as a lover, a founder, a father, a human being or whoever you strive to be. Oh, and don’t engage in social networks during your peak productivity hours and you’ll be fine.

Social media gives you easy access. It’s you choice what and how much to take from it.

What Sex Therapists Tell People Whose Partners Don’t Want Sex

Being in a relationship with someone who’s disinterested in sex can feel incredibly lonely. A discrepancy in desire is more common than most people realize, though.

What’s the best way to address it with your spouse? Below, sex therapists share the advice they give people with higher sex drives than their partners.

1. Be honest with your spouse about your needs.

Don’t shut your partner out and quietly suffer through your sexual frustration. The first step you should take to improve your sex life is to tell your S.O. that you wish you were intimate more frequently, said Keeley Rankin, a sex therapist in San Francisco, California.

“See how your spouse responds,” she said. “Listen to what they say, feel and say they want. You never know, they may want more closeness as well.”

2. Discuss the things that make sex possible and the barriers in the way.

Without asking, there’s no way of knowing why your spouse is disinterested in sex. Maybe they’re just exhausted and too stressed out by the day’s end to initiate sex. Or if they’re experiencing sexual dysfunction of some kind (premature ejaculationerectile dysfunction or a lack of vaginal lubrication, for instance), it makes sense that they’re apprehensive about initiating sex.

“You have to consider the life, emotional and physical barriers that can affect sex and shift libidos,” said Elizabeth McGrath, a sex therapist and educator who works in the Bay Area. “If your spouse has been caring for others all day, for instance, they might not feel ready for sex until they’ve had a moment to themselves to feel nourished and decompress.”

Once you’ve pinpointed some potential causes, figure out a workaround as a team; schedule a doctor’s appointment if there’s a physical barrier to sex, or give your spouse some totally kid-free “me time” if exhaustion is the problem.

3. Try seduction, not criticism or pressure.

A slight mismatch in libido can easily become a larger one if the lower-desire spouse is badgered about the issue, said Danielle Harel, a sex therapist and the co-author of Making Love Real: The Intelligent Couple’s Guide to Lasting Intimacy and Passion

The mismatch often creates a cycle where the spouse with the higher sex drive complains, compares or criticizes their partner and the partner ends up having sex out of obligation, she explained.

Instead of pressuring your spouse, “see if you can find out what turns them on the most and try seduction,” Harel said. “Try saying (and really meaning), ‘It’s fine if we don’t have sex tonight but would you be willing to just open up to see if you start to get turned on?’”

She added: “Just because you start, doesn’t mean you have to go all the way. Make sure you have this agreement with your partner.”

4. Take turns initiating intimacy.

If you’re locked into a cycle of initiation and rejection, ask your spouse if they’d be willing to initiate some form of intimacy every few days, said Moushumi Ghose, a sex therapist and author of Classic Sex Positions Reinvented.

“Take turns each day initiating some kind of touch, even if if the goal isn’t orgasm, but just non-goal oriented sexy time,” she said. “The next day, the other person initiates. This can help balance out the playing field.”

5. See if your spouse is willing to make out.

Reconnecting sexually is all about taking slow, measured steps. If your partner is willing to have a hot make-out session or just touch, be open to that, said Celeste Hirschman, a sex therapist and the co-author of Making Love Real: The Intelligent Couple’s Guide to Lasting Intimacy and Passion.

“Oftentimes, when people are asking for sex, a lot of what they want is just enthusiastic, loving connection.” Hirschman said. “Just remember: You both have to be enthusiastic about it; it won’t be fulfilling if your partner just gives you sex without being present or enjoying the experience themselves.”

6. Get outside help.

Instead of dwelling on what’s missing in the relationship, consider the bond and attraction that still exists and build on that, McGrath said.

“Explore workshops, sex education resources and sex therapy that can expand your sexual horizons,” she said. “Look at what is possible and continue to talk about what else you can do together as a team.”

7. Keep bringing your sexual energy, but in a loving, calm way.

Don’t lose heart if you’re the higher-desire partner, said Ian Kerner, a sex therapist and New York Times-bestselling author of She Comes First: The Thinking Man’s Guide to Pleasuring a Woman.

“Higher-desire partners often get frustrated and feel rejected, creating a sexual disposition that is impatient and brittle and temperamental,” he said. “This often worsens the dynamic around sex and sometimes the higher-desire partner may opt out altogether, which is equally bad.”

The best thing you can do, according to Kerner, is to “stay in it to win it. That means nurturing arousal through positive acts of intimacy.”

Don’t Worry, Britney Spears Is ‘Alive And Well’

Despite an earlier report from the Sony Music Global Twitter account that stated Britney Spears was dead, a rep for the singer confirmed to CNN that she was “alive and well.” (Don’t scare us like that, 2016.)

On Monday morning, the Sony account posted a now-deleted tweet reading, “britney spears is dead by accident! we will tell you more soon #RIPBritney  ” Despite the alarming news from the music account, the odd phrasing and use of emoji made the report seem suspicious.

Oddly, or perhaps tellingly, the official Twitter account for Bob Dylan was the only other source for the news of Spears’ death. The announcement used the same crying emoji.

CNN news editor AnneClaire Stapleton tweeted that Spears’ rep confirmed that the singer is indeed alive.

It appears the tweets were posted as a result of a hacking. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a group called OurMine was found to be behind the erroneous information. THR noted that the group was possibly using these hacks as a way to tout its security services.

Spears had last posted on Instagram about hunting and ziplining with her two sons, Sean and Jayden, and her niece, Maddie, for the holidays.

Some good hunting and zip lining for the holidays! Merry Christmas!!

It’s OK If You Don’t Want To Be An Entrepreneur

Why do you really want to build a business?

  • To make your life more exciting?
  • To have more freedom?
  • To make more money?

You probably want more of everything! Great, because in addition to all of the above, business can also be:

  • more terrifying,
  • more depressing,
  • more exhilarating,
  • more mundane,
  • more lonely,
  • more aggravating,
  • more unsure,
  • more annoying,
  • more liberating,
  • more expensive,
  • more time-consuming,
  • more joyful,
  • more unpredictable,
  • more stupid
  • and, of course, more wonderful.

So it’s not that you won’t have fun starting a business. You will. A ton of fun.

But you’ll also go through a multitude of other emotions, states, feelings and stark realities, with that same fun mixed in randomly.

So now is the time to ask yourself: can you deal with all the elements of entrepreneurship, or are you just down for the fun stuff?

It’s ok if you really just want to experience the fun stuff that entrepreneurship has to offer.

I’m not judging. But I am pointing out that it’s simply not the way it is — and unfortunately, you don’t find out a lot of the other elements until you’re so deep in the game that it doesn’t make sense to quit. That’s why there’s so much talk about “hustle” and never quitting in the business space online — because so many entrepreneurs are too deep in the game to even consider turning around.

Once you’re a few years deep, it’s much harder to just “move on.” So you have to be extremely tough mentally in order to make it. That’s where the “hustle” mentality comes from. Not because entrepreneurs are some rare breed that don’t get tired — but because mental and emotional resilience is a learned trait that must be developed in order for us to survive.

I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just trying to share some things I wish people would have told me in the beginning.

People start businesses hoping that it will solve their biggest problems, all the while, forgetting that any new challenge — and make no mistake, running a real business is a huge challenge — will inevitably create new, previously unforeseen problems.

If you’re down for that, cool. If you’re not, just be honest with yourself. There’s no shame in getting a good job. Honestly.

For as much as I preach about building your own thing (and I do strongly believe in it) — I’d rather see you just be honest with yourself and do what’s actually going to make you happy, rather than trying to do something that isn’t “you” because looking at hundreds of pictures on Instagram every day has tricked you into thinking that you’re missing out on something.

Trust me, you’re not.

And let me assure you, there is nothing morally redeeming about being a business owner. A lot of the talk online equates having your own company with “giving back” or living your life “to the fullest” — as if there’s no other employment setting where this might be possible.

False.

Entrepreneurship doesn’t bestow or imply any moral or ethical benefits.

Having a business isn’t a necessarily better way of living, it’s just an other way of living.

And this is your life. Any decision that you make for yourself will be correct — as long as you’re honest about what you really want.

*******

I hope you enjoyed this article!

If you’re curious to know how I got started, and how you can begin your own journey to self- employment, you should enroll in my free mini-course on making more money. It’ll take you step-by-step through the process of creating a new business using skills you already have.

We Tried Mariah Carey’s 2-Ingredient Diet, But We Don’t Recommend You Do

What is it: Mariah Carey’s diet. About a week ago, goddess of Christmas Mariah Carey told E! News that the secret to her amazing body is a diet of solely smoked salmon and capers. “It’s really hard. My diet, you would hate it. All you eat is Norwegian salmon and capers every day. That’s it,” she confessed.

That’s it? MARIAH. Did you forget the bagel and cream cheese part, maybe? Or the part where you say “and then at noon I eat a sandwich and some fruit because LOL did you think I actually only ate smoked salmon all day, every day?” But no.

Who tried it: Gina Vaynshteyn, HelloGiggles Editorial Director

Level of Difficulty: 9 ½ (on a scale of 1 to 10), or one hanger tantrum next to impossible.

My first smoked salmon meal wasn’t so bad. I’m Jewish after all, so, the thought of eating piles and piles of lox didn’t seem so horrible! I ate a few slices, had some coffee (I’m allowed to drink coffee, right?), and drove to work. As soon as I got to the office around 10 a.m. is when the hunger pangs began. An hour after I had my breakfast.

Because as it turns out, a few slivers of smoked salmon don’t fill you up. A few agonizing hours went by until lunchtime, when I ravenously inhaled the salmon I brought with me. “I’m eating like Mariah Carey eats,” I explained to my associate editor who sat across from me and couldn’t help but stare at my sparse lunch choice.

By dinner time, I was a mess. I was SO hungry. The fish was so salty I could feel my veins prune up, and all I could smell and taste was fish. I marched up to my fridge and ate an entire package of lox (what? Mariah didn’t say how MUCH salmon she ate!). And then I went to bed early to stop myself from busting open the snack cabinet and murdering the bag of Doritos I knew I had stashed.

RELATED: Celebrity Foodies: See What the Stars Are Snacking on Today

The next morning, I woke up with an intense urge to vacuum every bottle of water I had in my house with my mouth. I was SO THIRSTY. And hungry. Did I mention I was always hungry? I dumped half a pack of salmon (this is also getting expensive — one pack of mid-grade lox will run you at least $ 7) on to a paper plate, added a few obligatory capers, and ate.

By lunch, it was unbearable. My stomach hurt and everyone around me was eating the Greek food we had catered in for lunch. I was short with my editors (I’m so sorry you guys, it was the high blood pressure talking, not me!), and all I could think about was biting into a turkey sandwich made with extra tomatoes and a French baguette. The texture of smoked salmon was driving me insane. And I felt bloated. I needed. Real. Food.

WATCH THIS: Food Hack: Make a Biscuit & Gravy Wreath

So, I failed my Mariah Carey diet then and there by walking to Jimmy John’s and ordering a sub the size of a newborn infant. It was the best sandwich I had ever had.

The Verdict: Mariah Carey is (probably) exaggerating. There is no way you can eat JUST smoked salmon — even one day of this strict diet was unbearable. The good news? I lost a pound. But maybe I would have lost more if my body wasn’t fighting for every drop of water it could retain.

RELATED: We Made the Infamous Friends Thanksgiving Trifle — Does It Really Taste Like Feet?

I asked a nutrition expert Whitney English, if Mariah’s diet could be any semblance of healthy, and she told me: “Any diet that excludes major macronutrient groups is a bad idea! The body needs a balance of carbs, fat and protein to function properly. While a normal portion of salmon is a good source of vitamin D and vitamin B12, it contains zero fiber, zero carbohydrates, and low levels of many micronutrients. A diet consisting solely of smoked salmon and capers will likely result in both micronutrient deficiencies and toxicities.”

English added, “If she was eating 60 ounces of smoked salmon a day, roughly 2000 calories worth, she still wouldn’t meet the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, thiamin, vitamin C, folate, and vitamin K. Add , and she’d still only gain 4 grams of fiber. The RDA is about 25-35 grams. Hello, constipation!”

Luckily, my diet hadn’t gotten THAT far.

English pointed out that if you strictly follow the diet, your body would be getting way too much niacin, and the side effects of that include “headaches, heartburn, nausea, vomiting and gout.”

In case you still want to try the all-smoked-salmon diet, English wants you to know that “the scariest part though is the effects of astronomically high amounts of vitamin D. Vitamin D is the most likely vitamin to cause overt toxicity which could include calcification of organs, renal dysfunction, and in some cases, death.”

Bottom line? There are other, more healthy ways to emulate the gorgeous Mariah Carey. This is not one of them.

Kourtney Kardashian And Scott Disick Don’t Know How To Quit Each Other

Kris Jenner has clearly been working overtime.

It looks like Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick are back together after more than a year apart, E! News reports.

Over the past few months, the two have tested the boundaries of amicable separation, jetting off to Mexico in November and grabbing lunch in public together more times than Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.

“They are back together and giving their relationship a try again,” a source told the media outlet. “Scott’s mellowed out a lot and hasn’t been partying.”

According to the same E! source, their children were the reason for reconciling because they “both want to make it work for them and their kids.”

The longtime couple split back in July 2015 after nine years together. Kardashian and Disick had been dating since 2006 and share three children, Mason, 6, Penelope, 4 and Reign, who will turn 2 in December.

The breakup was reportedly triggered by Disick’s long-simmering substance abuse issues ― he reentered rehab right before and a couple months after their separation ― and rumors that the reality star was unfaithful to Kardashian.

Despite these hurdles, Disick has maintained a regular presence on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” He accompanied the family on a trip to Vail earlier this year and can often be seen playing the doting dad on the family’s reality show.

“The idea of having my family together is amazing, but it’s not the way things ended up. They may end up there. I’m not sure,” Kourtney told Cosmopolitan in October. “To me, it’s in God’s hands. If it’s meant to be, then things will line up.”

The two are reportedly now living together in the family’s home, despite Disick purchasing his own bachelor abode in the same neighborhood this past January.

And all was right in Calabasas.

Don’t Be Fooled By This Romantic Holiday Card Photo

All is not as it seems in the cheesy holiday snap, above.

It may look like a couple is romantically embracing beside a bunch of Christmas presents in the image’s thumbnail.

But see what happens when it’s zoomed out…

Single college student John Olmstead decided to poke fun at the romantic holiday card genre after seeing a similar spoof online, reports BuzzFeed.

I thought it was hilarious, so I wanted to do it, but my arms are too skinny to look like legs,” the 22-year-old from Mattoon, Illinois, told Mashable. “So, I had to improvise and shove my feet into those tiny boots.”

He posted the photograph to Twitter on Wednesday, and it’s since garnered more than 90,000 likes and almost 50,000 retweets.

Many fellow Twitter users admitted that Olmstead’s parody struck a chord:

Love Actually: Don’t Fast Forward To The Happy Ending

One of the many characters in Love Actually is a widower named Daniel (Liam Neeson.) While delivering his wife Joanne’s eulogy, he gives us a hint at her sense of humor:

“Jo and I had uh, a lot of time to prepare for this moment. Some of her, uh, requests – for instance, that I should bring Claudia Schiffer as my date to the funeral – I was confident she expected me to ignore.”

In a scene shortly following the funeral, Daniel cries in front of his married friend Karen (Emma Thompson.) Karen responds be telling him:

“Get a grip, people hate sissies. No-one’s ever gonna shag you if you cry all the time.”

In the movie, that bit of dialogue is not meant to paint Karen as being a bad friend. Rather, this is how the movie actually sees the world: Only wimps have emotions, real men don’t cry, and it’s a widower’s JOB to get laid.

And sure enough, by the end of the movie, the widower is successfully flirting with (and beginning a relationship with) Carol, a women who happens to look a lot like Claudia Schiffer (perhaps because she’s being played by Claudia Schiffer.) The timeline between the widower burying his wife and hitting it off with a supermodel? Five weeks.

Five weeks. That’s the timeline movies like Love Actually have for grief. After that, it’s time to give the audience what they really want, namely the excitement of seeing a “boy meets girl” moment. Joanne, who is never even seen alive during the movie, was only written into existence to set up a surprise romance. It’s suggested that Joanne suffered through a long illness, but her real cause of death was narrative efficiency.

There is a shocking amount of pressure placed on real-life widows and widowers to “get back out there.” People will actually start talking to the bereaved about dating as early as the funeral. Love Actually, The Holiday, and other movies that use an off-screen dead spouse to help set up an eventual “meet cute” romantic-comedy moment are only contributing to the problem.

People’s lives do not follow narrative arcs. When you or somebody you know faces a personal loss, respect that loss for what it is. Let it be a self-contained terrible moment in time, not a mere set up for something wonderful that you want to believe is just around the corner. Don’t try to fast forward to the happy ending.

“Rules Don’t Apply” Is Beatty’s Folly

Movie Review – Jackie K Cooper
“Rules Don’t Apply” (20th Century Fox)

Warren Beatty hasn’t been seen on screen since his 2001 film “Town & Country” and that was not a major hit. His star power has diminished a bit over the years and there is no reason to think his latest film “Rules Don’t Apply” will bring back any of the old glitter. Mr. Beatty stars in this film and also was the director. Plus he was one of the writers of the screenplay and was a co-producer. In short Beatty huffed and puffed all over this project but the only thing it inflated was his ego.

In the film Beatty plays Howard Hughes, a bizarre acting man if there ever was one. Alden Ehrenreich plays Frank Forbes, one of Hughes drivers, and Lily Collins plays Marla Mabrey, a starlet under contract to Hughes. It seems Hughes kept a stable of starlets under contract and ensconced them in bungalows around the city of Los Angeles. At various times they were summoned to meet with Hughes, usually in his bungalow.

Hughes’ odd behavior is at the center of the film but there is also a storyline about a budding romance between Frank and Marla. If either of these plot points was interesting there might have been hope for an entertaining product but both are boring and weigh the movie down. There is no explanation given for Hughes’ eccentricities, and Ehrenreich and Collins have zero chemistry. Out of all the young actors available in Hollywood why did Beatty choose these two?

The movie is overburdened with supporting actors. You have Candice Bergen, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Hayley Bennett, Matthew Broderick, Paul Sorvino, Oliver Platt, Annette Bening, Megan Hilty, Ed Harris and Amy Madigan to name a few. Other than Broderick and Bening, the others have no impact on the film as far as making it better or worse. They are just there.

The script is a meandering mess with few if any laughable moments. An interchange between Beatty and Broderick does have some zest but it is short lived. On the other hand Caleb Deschanel’s cinematography is amazing. It provides beautiful wrapping for an empty present.

The movie is rated PG-13 for profanity.

Warren Beatty’s career has been full of monetary and artistic successes. Who can forget the impact of “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Reds”, “Bugsy” and even “Dick Tracy”? This makes it even sadder that the possible last film of his career is such a mess. All of the acting, directorial, writing and producing talent we have seen so abundantly in the past are just not on view in “Rules Don’t Apply.” Maybe he just took the title too literally and thought the rules of filmmaking didn’t apply to him. It seems his ego got the best of him and he thought he was too big to fail.

“Rules Don’t Apply” will go down as Beatty’s folly. It may not be as blistered as “Ishtar” but it will be close. The man who has been blessed with so much talent mishandled it in this film from start to finish.

I scored “Rules Don’t Apply” a broken 3 out of 10.
