13 Times Ryan Reynolds Was The Husband Of Our Dreams

Our country is divided on a number of issues, but there’s one thing we can generally agree upon: Ryan Reynolds is a friggin’ gem.

The actor has been married to Blake Lively since 2012. And the couple, now parents to two kiddos, have been serving up relationships goals of epic proportions ever since. Below, 13 endearing moments that made Ryan Reynolds a dynamite husband in our eyes.

1. When he made us swoon with this acceptance speech shout-out:

2. When he wished his wife a happy birthday with his signature humor:

3. When he complimented her red carpet swag:

4. When he professed his love for Blake on “Letterman”:

5. But then before things got too mushy, he made us LOL again:

“I used to say to her, ‘I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.’ I would say that to my wife. And the second I looked in that baby’s eyes, I knew in that exact moment that if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby.”

6. When he bragged about her cooking skills (before the two were even an item):

“There’s nothing she can’t cook, that’s sort of the problem…aren’t actors supposed to be out causing massive amounts of bad press and trouble? But this girl’s in a kitchen all day, baking our crew on our movie everything you can imagine. I mean she had soufflés coming in! What’s weird is that she would live 30 minutes away but when she brought stuff it was still warm. I think there’s an Easy Bake Oven in her car.”

7. When he looked at Blake like she is the most perfect creature in existence:

And again:

And again:

8. When he brilliantly trolled her on Halloween:

Happy ☠️Halloween REPOST: @cjarobison

9. When he didn’t shy away from some good old-fashioned poop humor:

10. When he playfully cupped Blake’s boob:

Two Deadpools, one cup. Your turn # L

A photo posted by Blake Lively (@blakelively) on

11. When he (jokingly) threw his wife under the bus:

12. When he thanked Blake at the MTV Movie Awards:

13. When he shared this masterful Photoshop of the couple in Britney and J.T.’s famous all-denim getups:

NEVER CHANGE.

Claret Dreams

In 1889, a young boy receives a complete set of handmade golf clubs from his father?s friend, the? Patriarch of Golf,? Old Tom Morris. The clubs, imbued with seemingly mystical powers, are passed down through the ensuing generations of the MacCoren family. In 1962, Ian MacCoren qualifies for the British Open Championship using these very clubs. While others scoff at the use of such ancient implements, given the evolution of golf technology, Ian?s game makes believers of the golf world. Opponents like Gary Player and Arnold Palmer test the youth?s steely nerves as he attempts to accomplish the impossible and win the British Open Championship as an unknown amateur. Even as Ian shocks the world on the golf course, family tragedy and personal disaster offer additional obstacles in Ian?s quest for the? Claret Jug. Discover the birth and evolution of golf, the inception and development of the British Open Championship, and grab a front row spot in the gallery for the dramatic conclusion of Claret Dreams.

Good News! Your Dreams Are Made of Crap!

2015-08-21-1440187739-1821634-BlogCrapDreams3small.jpg

Your dreams are not made of clouds.
Your dreams are not made of pixie dust.
Your dreams are made of CRAP!
Dirty, smelly, inconvenient, annoying, scary, crap.

Often we see all the miles and miles between us and our dreams as a problem. You think, “Aw man if I could just get past this crap, then I’d be happy.” And you sit and dream about magically floating over all the crap you don’t want to deal with.

Floating over the crap never works, because you need the crap to make your dreams real.

Your dreams don’t come true simply by arriving on the other side. They come true when you stop dreaming about them and start digging through all the crap you need to manifest them.

Your great relationship isn’t in the perfect partner. It’s in digging into the crap of talking about your life, deciding where to go to dinner, and giving your partner reassurance that yes indeed they are hot.

Your great small business isn’t in finding the perfect customers. It’s in digging through all the crap of bad web design, poorly thought branding, and missteps in the marketplace until you begin to fully understand what drives you to build a business and how you can truly serve the world you live in.

Your great new career isn’t about finding a job that magically fulfills you. It’s in leaving your comfortable place at a big company, being scared to death, floundering, and searching until you find the work that speaks to your heart like nothing else.

Intentions are not the answer, wishing isn’t the answer, manifesting isn’t the answer, the answer is crap.

When you dig into the crap of your life, you find all the parts of yourself you haven’t faced and the corners of your heart you have locked away. Digging into the crap sucks, but it makes you grow.

You become a wiser, more compassionate and more totally kick ass version of who you truly are. The crap cleanses you, and when you get through it, even your dreams are different.

So now’s the time. Find the crap and dig in. It’s not pretty, but it’s never going to get any prettier than it is right now either.

What are you waiting for?

Esurance Backs Gay Marriage With ‘Equal Dreams’ Commercial And Social Campaign

Esurance is kicking off LGBT Pride Week with an all-inclusive commercial and social media campaign.

The auto insurance provider is releasing a video, #EqualDreams, in which children and gay teen guests at a June 13 wedding are asked to describe their own dream ceremonies. The responses are both inspiring and adorable.

“At my wedding day, all my friends and family and my doggies and my friends’ and family’s doggies and my cousin’s doggies…will be there, and it’s gonna be the best day of my life,” one tot proclaims. Another adds: “If my husband doesn’t like the cake, he will buy his own cake.”

The clip, which is being released ahead of what officials hope is a victory for same-sex marriage at the U.S. Supreme Court this month, takes a more bittersweet turn when one lesbian guest speaks about her own experience growing up.

Esurance Chief Marketing Officer Alan Gellman told The Huffington Post in an email that his company, which has supported LGBT Pride events since 2005, created the clip “to show, in an emotionally compelling way, our belief that all dreams should be equal.”

He added, “It’s not just a belief. As a modern company, we act on that belief through our products and insurance offerings.”

Wet Dreams

Marriage IIRic and Tori go on a little vacation to unwind, relax, and “maybe, possibly do a bit of landscaping on the cabin” at the behest of Tori’s brother. Hidden in their bags, Ric packs a surprise for his wife Tori, a school teacher. Events unfold rather. differently than either of them had imagined. Excerpt:”Honey?” he called out as he sat up. No response. His towel was dry, the covers underneath him were damply warm, and he wondered what time it was. He sniffed the air, confused by the cacophony of scents. He padded out into the main hallway and noted the crackling fireplace, happily spitting away. He followed a trail of tiny, flickering candles that led him to the glowing kitchen. Inside, Tori sat beside the dining table, facing towards him with long, bare, demurely crossed legs, illuminated by a strange combination of lights. There were the tea lights, but on the table there were two centerpieces that explained the enjoyable but confusing smell Ric had awoken to. There was a pint-sized Christmas tree candle resting on the table, which Tori had bought years ago, that was putting off a distinctly minty cedar smell. Beside the slowly melting effigy of Christmas, there was a bloody, half-melted Halloween skull that smelled of pumpkin spice and cinnamon. Tori watched him with brown eyes burning with the reflections of the pinpricks of flames surrounding her. Her hair was drawn to either side in pigtails, and she was wearing a jaw-dropping gothic schoolgirl outfit that seemed like something straight out of the wardrobe of a Tim Burton movie. It took him a moment to notice the black eyeliner, eye shadow, and the dark, dark lipstick she was wearing. He wasn’t sure if it was red or black.

The Secret to Blissfully Following (Not Forcing) Your Dreams

There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle, or you can live as if everything is a miracle. — Albert Einstein

I made myself by a ticket this particular networking event weeks ago. I knew it would be good for me, but *in case* I wanted to bail, I bought a ticket online weeks ahead.

2015-05-27-1432754419-7634441-_MG_7927.jpg

The first person I met there ended up being an acquaintance I met months ago! I breathed a deep sigh of relief. We hit it off and started talking about books, meditation and quantum physics. It was exactly the kind of conversation I enjoyed and I secretly hoped that I wouldn’t have to talk to anyone else at the event.

Eventually, I had to talk to someone new and conversations inevitably led to business talk. Instantly, something inside me closed up.

I discovered that whenever someone attempted to give me business strategy advice, I’d start feeling overwhelmed and heavy. I tightened up and just nodded. I didn’t want to say more, lest they give me more “advice” and add more things my never-ending to do list.

In contrast, whenever I talked to someone about energy and intention — topics I enjoy — I felt much lighter. These conversation would just flow. I’d feel happy and have tons of ideas to bounce off them.

This widely different feelings contraction and expansions during my conversations got me thinking about how I could be taking the exact same actions as someone else build up my business, but depending on the energy and intention behind it, my life would feel like carrying a ton of bricks or a blissful walk on a beach.

From the outside, the actions could look the same, but the energy is totally different. Ultimately it is the energy behind what you do that creates your results.

I could tell that if I don’t get clear on how I want to be, there are tons of people willing to give me unsolicited business advice. We need to clarify for ourselves HOW we want to work:

Following vs. Forcing Your Dreams

– Allowing vs. forcing

– Passion vs. Overwhelm, Stress

– Open to infinite possibilities vs. Strategic planning

– Making friends vs. Building a “Network”

– Being and staying true to you vs. Reputation management

– Doing it for the love vs. Seeking approval

– Following your intuition VS. Following other people’s advice

– Letting go of the outcome vs. Results focused.

– Enjoy, savour and honor the process vs. Manipulate and control the process

– Sharing and giving vs. Taking, what can I ‘get’

– Being authentic, wholly me vs. Branding

Take a look and see which side of the list you are operating your life from. It may seem scary to actually let go of the details, it’s only because your ego has hijacked you into thinking that you have to control everything.

The truth is, you don’t. When you follow your inspiration and follow your bliss, the universe is naturally wired to lead you to exactly where you want to go. You can allow energy of your passion to carry your forward and create whatever you feel inspired to create.

In the process, you will naturally do all of the stuff you “should” do, like branding and networking, but you will enjoy the journey much more!

2015-05-27-1432754540-4218994-_MG_7922.jpg

Don’t just follow any old advice. Follow the advice that resonates with you.

When I teach people how to network, I make sure that they do it a way that is true to their hearts – not just show up to an event and mindlessly hand their business cards around. Authentic networking is just about making friends and being a genuine human being.

Mother Teresa said, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”

Whenever I’m feeling off in anything that I’m doing in business or my life, I check back inside. Usually if I feel bad or blocked about something that I’m trying to create, it’s because my heart doesn’t want to create it.

When my heart want to create something, it just flows out and I get more done in a couple of hours of FLOW than I’d get done in days of forcing.

If you’ve been feeling off in your life, I invite you to go through that list again. Take note where you are trying to manipulate and control the outcome. How does it feel to do the opposite instead?

Now I want to hear from you! Is there any area of your life where you’ve been forcing our dreams to happen, instead of following your inspiration?

What would it feel like to let go?

‘Tomorrowland’ Dreams Big, But Fails To Rake In Big Bucks At The Box Office

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The future doesn’t look so bright for “Tomorrowland.”

Disney’s expensive fantasy adventure essentially had Memorial Day weekend to itself, and still only pulled in a modest $ 41.7 million in its first four days in theaters according to Rentrak estimates on Monday.

It’s a disappointing debut for a film that cost a reported $ 180 million to produce. Disney put their full weight behind the Brad Bird-directed film with an ambitious George Clooney-led promotional campaign.

“It’s not ever ideal to be below your estimate before the weekend starts, but it feels like it’s too early to judge the run,” said Disney’s Distribution EVP Dave Hollis.

Going into the weekend, tracking put the film in the $ 40 to $ 50 million range. And yet, he said, this is the gamble that studios must take when trying to introduce an original film to the marketplace.

Hollis noted that “Tomorrowland” will be one of the only PG-rated family films in theaters until Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out” opens on June 19, which could be promising for its longevity — especially considering that many schools have yet to close for the summer.

“We are optimistic that originality and the vision that Brad Bird put on the screen is something that people will find and evangelize and hopefully get other folks to show up,” said Hollis.

Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian said that the mystery behind “Tomorrowland’s” plot might have hurt the film.

“When audiences are spending their hard earned cash on a blockbuster or tent-pole movie, they kind of want to know what they’re getting going in, for better or worse,” he said.

Last weekend’s well-received holdovers “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” helped prop up the holiday weekend totals. Both films experienced modest drops and earned $ 38.5 million and $ 32.1 million respectively.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” placed fourth with $ 27.8 million.

Meanwhile, Fox’s “Poltergeist” remake debuted in fifth place, with an estimated $ 26.5 million.

Director Gil Kenan’s update of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 horror classic cost $ 35 million to produce. The studio expected an opening in the low $ 20 million range.

“I think for our filmmakers, who had set out not to just remake a classic but to introduce a new generation of fans to the genre, it was very successful,” said Fox’s domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson.

Audiences for the PG-13 rated film were 59 percent under the age of 25.

Overall, though, there wasn’t much to celebrate over this holiday weekend. Memorial Day weekends are usually reserved for high-earning franchise fare.

The past two years saw the over $ 100 million debuts of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Fast & Furious 6.” When box office totals are finalized on Tuesday, this could prove to be one of the worst performing in recent years.

“The industry went into this weekend knowing we weren’t going to break any records,” said Dergarabedian. “This is more of a case of audiences, somewhat, turning their back on original content when it comes to big blockbusters.”

But, hope is certainly not lost for a banner 2015 at the box office, with more surefire blockbusters like “Jurassic World” and “Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation” yet to open.

“Summer is not going to be a bummer this year. This is a bump in the box office road,” said Dergarabedian.

Ditch The Trends, Liberate The Risque, And Create A Wedding Of Your Dreams

Tell me, honestly, how many times have you seen the image of the same floral peony bouquet wrapped in blush tulle on your Facebook feed or bridal magazines or the wedding blogs you follow? Too many, right? After a while it seems as if you are looking at the same wedding over and over again on all the different social media channels. But, really, they are not the same wedding.

So, how about we drop the notion that we need to follow the trends in order to make our wedding look incredibly gorgeous? How about we embrace the ‘un-think’ and work towards creating a little bit of ‘ish’ so that those photos that we look at years down the road remind us of what we were made of, and who we really were.

As a photographer, I always encourage my couples to talk to me about things, places and colors that inspire them, and that they enjoy together. We then work out a details of a session (both engagement and wedding) that allows them to explore those passions and interests. We work together to create a comfortable camaraderie so that there is room for a little adventure and authenticity.

To all the engaged couples out there, please know that your most special day, your wedding, doesn’t have to be color coordinated to the rhythm of popular trends. It should instead represent your silliness, your quirkiness, your crazy awesome love. And, when it comes to photographs, rest assured, you will be proud to show those photos to your grandkids.

So, how about I help you find out a few ways you can achieve that:

1. Erase the trend, and fill in with your passion
When you sit down to plan your wedding, the first thing you need to do is block the word “trendy” or “trends” from your planning dictionary. Instead, list out the places you’ve traveled together to and pick out your favorite from them and what aspects about that place made it your favorite. Maybe you want to include some elements of that place in your wedding. Or if you like to go to museums together, bring in elements from that in your wedding, such as, small terrarium boxes as favors (tons of vendors on etsy), decorate with vines and leaves instead of flowers or buy mini canvas from a craft store and create your own masterpieces for your guests as favors.

[The bride and groom crafted this stunning gold backdrop for their wedding]

2. Be bold
Honestly, what makes a wedding memorable are the photos. So, look for a photographer who can capture your beautiful relationship as is. Have your engagement session in a trapeze studio if you like flying, and during the wedding day, allow the photographer to really get in and dirty with all the emotions exploding around. Don’t go for the safe shots, go for those photos that scream “you” and allocate enough time for the photographer to create those sick bride and groom portraits for your during sunset. You will be thanking me later.

2015-05-06-1430932248-3327105-UniqueWeddingPhotosSHHIVIKACHAUHANPHOTOGRAPHY1.jpg

3. Keep it close, keep it personal
Sometimes the best settings are when you have the time and energy to celebrate your wedding with each and every soul who made the effort to attend it. So, don’t worry about numbers. If you have only 30 people to invite, then rock on! For instance, charter a boat and celebrate in style with those who really matter. Everyone else can enjoy via those super awesome photos!

2015-05-06-1430932285-8039746-UniqueWeddingPhotosSHHIVIKACHAUHANPHOTOGRAPHY9.jpg

4. Unique venues, with unique voices
Yes, a venue sets the mood and expectations for the day. So, don’t let that go dry in a ballroom. From yachts to zoos to state parks to public libraries to old mining mills…the possibilities are endless. Let the venue speak uniquely of your unique love story.

2015-05-06-1430932313-8587084-UniqueWeddingPhotosSHHIVIKACHAUHANPHOTOGRAPHY2.jpg

5. Dress up, dress right or dress left
What’s in a wedding dress? A lot, that I agree with. But, again, who says that a gold sequined gown with your grandmother’s lace is any less gorgeous than that $ 20,000 couture one that every bride has already worn. And, who says that bridesmaid wearing pant suits is a total shocker? That’s right…no one. So, don’t let the fashion gods dampen your fashionably forward spirit. If it feels right, guess what, it probably is right.

2015-05-06-1430891232-9718714-UniqueWeddingPhotosSHHIVIKACHAUHANPHOTOGRAPHY8.jpg

Listen, I am no expert at wedding planning, but after having been in the industry for a while I can safely say that following your heart and liberating its power in the planning process can do wonders. From the details to the glorious photos – you will be truly see your love shine. And, who wants to see the same peony bouquet wrapped in blush tulle for the millionth time?

Anyone? Anyone?

Cheers,
Shhivika

Pink Lipstick Dreams: Ginger Becomes a Submissive Wife

Pink Lipstick Dreams: Ginger Becomes a Submissive Wife

With Ginger’s long black hair cascading over her shoulders against her porcelain pale skin and her sparkling green eyes brightening her face, the combination made her a drop dead gorgeous woman. Ginger knew she was beautiful at a petite size of 5’2″, but with round and perky size “C” cups, her figure was small, but very sexy. She looked in the mirror and put on the lipstick that Ryan had bought her the day before. Ginger had never worn pink lipstick before; it was always the sexy slutty red lipstick that looked good against her skin. But, Ryan, her boyfriend wanted her to wear pink lipstick for him tonight. Tonight was their one year anniversary and he had told her that he had a surprise for her. Ginger was very excited. Ryan had been talking lately a lot about taking their relationship to the next level. Was he going to propose to her? She wondered. Ginger pouted her lips out and pulled off the top of the pink lipstick off. It was a light pink in color with a little shimmer. She slowly applied the pink lipstick to the outline of her lips, then filled in her lips. Ginger had full lips and the pink lipstick made them look even fuller and pouty. When she was finished, her eyes looked even greener than before and her skin was even paler. Ginger actually liked how the pink lipstick looked on her. She then went over to her closet and pulled out the tight fitting pink dress Ryan had bought for her to wear out tonight. She was never used to the color pink. She usually wore black or red clothing. Pink was something new to her. She took the short pink mini dress off the hanger and unzipped it. Ginger already had on pink thigh high stockings attached to a pink garter that matched her pink lace panties with a pink lace bra. All bought for her by Ryan. She slipped the dress on. It was very tight and form fitting. The dress pushed her breasts into a nice cleavage and hugged her small waist and accentuated her round little ass. ‘Damn, I look hot.’ Ginger said out

Bill Murray Played The Mayor On ‘Parks & Rec,’ Making Amy Poehler’s Dreams Come True

In the stretch toward its final episode, “Parks and Recreation” is pulling out all the stops. On Tuesday night, that meant a little old guest appearance by Bill Murray. Yes, BILL MURRAY was on “Parks and Recreation.”

The actor appeared as Walter Gunderson, the deceased mayor of Pawnee — a character widely referenced throughout the show’s history but never before depicted. The mayor spoke to his residents from the grave in a little video message, and had an open casket at his funeral.

Getting Murray to play the mayor of Pawnee has been a dream of Amy Poehler and the “Parks and Rec” cast and crew for years. Back in 2011, Poehler mentioned her wish to cast him in an interview at PayleyFest and during an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” She brought it up it again in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sundance in 2013.

“I want Bill Murray to play the mayor,” she said “And I just dream about it every night. I whisper it to a bird and then I open the window and the bird flies away.”

Show creator Mike Schur told Entertainment Weekly that when they did finally manage to snag the actor, he was the perfect addition on set.

“He was just the most delightful person,” he said. “Not only was he incredibly complimentary of the show, he went around to every one of the actors and told them how great they were and cited specific episodes and moments. He hung out on the set for three hours, watching us shoot the show.”

The man, the myth, the legend.

The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness Movie CLIP – The Last Scene (2014) – Studio Ghibli Documentary HD

Granted near-unfettered access to the notoriously insular Studio Ghibli, director Mami Sunada follows the three men who are the lifeblood of Ghibli – the eminent director Hayao Miyazaki, the producer Toshio Suzuki, and the elusive and influential “other director” Isao Takahata – over the course of a year as the studio rushes to complete two films, Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises and Takahata’s The Tale of The Princess Kaguya. The result is a rare “fly on the wall” glimpse of the inner workings of one of the world’s most celebrated animation studios, and an insight into the dreams, passion and singular dedication of these remarkable creators.

The River of Dreams: Olwen Fouéré Talks About riverrun

I fell in love with the Irish theatre scene, both present and past, after spending a summer studying abroad in Dublin. Since then, to fuel my need to hear the rhythms and spirit of that place that I often miss, I have always kept an eye out for the latest pieces of theatre from Ireland that travel to New York City. So, naturally, I was excited when a colleague of mine from Ireland mentioned that she had seen a piece called riverrun at the Galway Arts Festival and that I should be sure not to miss it when it arrived at BAM in September. The more I learn about this piece the more I look forward to seeing it on Wednesday, especially now that I got to chat with adapter/performer/director Olwen Fouéré about her process.

Bess Rowen: You are not only a performer in riverrun, but also its adapter and director. What is it about Finnegans Wake that speaks to you? Joyce had a connection to the theatre early in his life, but most people, of course, associate him with literature. What made you want to bring this piece to the stage and how do you think the medium of theatre adds to piece?

Olwen Fouere: I never read Finnegans Wake in its entirety and probably never will but I have always been drawn to it, fascinated by the language and its form. I would dip into it at random, guided by chance, and often contemplated it as material for live performance because of its aural beauty and its power to communicate beyond rational thought and bypass fixed ideas about ‘meaning’. When I began to work with it, specifically by assuming the voice of the river, I began to appreciate just how cosmic a universe Finnegans Wake is, an ever-changing universe where all time is co-existent. So, as a performer, you are not assuming any fixed narrative or character, you are dealing with energies, forces of nature, the history and the geography that drives us onwards. The performer in riverrun is just a microcosmic speck of energy, like a tiny atom or cell in this thing we call Life, in the middle of millions of other cells who are the audience. All life depends on an ecosystem of exchange. So the life of this piece is utterly dependent the collective energy generated by both performer and audience. It is very like a standup comedy or spoken word performance, or a rock gig.

BR: What was the biggest challenge in your artistic process? (If this seems like too big an undertaking, maybe you can talk about how Joyce’s writing fits a theatrical sensibility for you.)

OF: The more I work with this material the more I feel that the Wake was a massive act of generosity on Joyce’s part. He invites you to author your own way through it, and there is no other way into it but the way you find. The biggest challenge was to accept that invitation and to trust my instincts, accept that I was blindly but intuitively leading the process, especially as I began to gather the collaborating artists. It is probably the most intuitive journey I have ever made as a director/performer. I consulted and workshopped the piece with quite a few artists but the most significant part of the artistic journey was with the composer/sound designer Alma Kelliher. After that we were joined by our lighting designer Stephen Dodd and our costume designer Monica Frawley. Finally, and crucially, I found an excellent co-director, Kellie Hughes, who trusted where I was with going the work, and who I trusted to act as my eyes and ears so that I could fully surrender to the performance.

BR: Do you have a favorite moment in performance of riverrun?

OF: I have a few favorite moments. And they vary. The experience of performing riverrun is very demanding, in terms of my physical/vocal energy and focus, but enormously rewarding. It ultimately leaves me and the audience with a surge of energy that feels primordial, something quite joyous and life-giving, but which can only be apprehended through the senses. People often weep afterwards, but don’t know why. I often feel as if I have surfed down the rapids and then dissolved into the ocean only to be born again in another shape and time. Which, of course, is exactly what happens in the piece.

BR: Why this piece now? What does Joyce’s work say to a contemporary audience, in your opinion? Or perhaps: what are you hoping to say, through Joyce, to a contemporary audience?

OF: I think the piece , and much of the entire book of Finnegans Wake is saying ‘Wake up’! ‘Rise up’ to self-determination, overthrow canonical forms and the ‘authority’ of received ideas. It is wildly subversive, and joyously so. It also puts us arrogant humans – who behave as though we have dominion over nature and time – back into our place. One Scottish critic I read put it brilliantly, he said, “riverrun is a hymn to embracing what we do not know and do not understand, to trusting what little we bring to the party and the discovery that it is enough. To be going on with at least. For humans are voracious creatures and can never have enough”.

BR: What is the most important thing for the audience to know about this piece before they go, if anything?

OF: Embark on the ever-changing journey down the river of Life (Liffey/Lethe) towards the dawn. Surrender to the alchemy of moments and embrace the chaos and the interconnectedness of all existence.

BR: This is not or your first time performing in New York, or even at BAM (their Instagram account just shared a stunning photo from your 1999 performance in Life is a Dream, by the way!), so what do you look forward to about performing for a New York audience?

OF: I look forward very much to the warmth and generosity of a New York audience, particularly the BAM audience who I think have that extra degree of curiosity and openness to new work.

BR: Anything else that you would like to share about riverrun?

OF: Can’t think of anything specific just now, but we will be travelling with it to Australia in March 2015 and performing it at the Sydney Theatre Company on the Wharf for five weeks as part of their 2015 season…And many more international dates on the horizon.

Tickets for riverrun, which is receiving its US premiere as part of BAM’s Next Wave Festival, can be purchased here.

Joseph Cornell’s Dreams

Joseph Cornell’s Dreams

Joseph Cornell is well known for the oneiric quality of his art and films. Many have tried, often in vain, to put into words the strange power of his boxes – toy-like constructions in which playfulness and humour are anchored in profound melancholy. Slot machines of visions, said Octavio Paz. Orman has combed through the voluminous diaries that Cornell kept throughout his life in search of the artist’s own dreams. What she found are brief flashes of images and short, enigmatic narratives of illumination – the verbal equivalent of Cornell boxes.

Dreams of Elsewhere

Dreams of Elsewhere

Best known for his fiction writing, Robert Louis Stevenson was also an essayist, journalist, poet and travel writer. His first major work was An Inland Voyage, an account of his journey by canoe from Antwerp to northern France. The companion work to this, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes (1879), is widely regarded as a travel-writing classic. June Skinner Sawyers has brought together the most comprehensive and representative sampling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s prolific travel output, including excerpts from his most famous travel books, travel essays and travel poetry. The result is a collection that is as vivid and compelling as his fiction, and includes a number of lesser-known works from US collections. There are endlessly fascinating portraits of flesh-and-blood human beings, and it becomes apparent that he never grew tired of meeting new people, or of seeking new adventures. The story-teller always finds stories to tell and Stevenson was a consummate storyteller. In the tranquility of a French pine forest by moonlight he considers the importance of friendship; in a leper colony on Hawaii he reflects on physical horror and moral beauty; in all of his writing there is humanity and compasssion. Dreams of Elsewhere also features annotated listings of Stevenson historic sites, landmarks, museums, libraries, organisations, and even music inspired by Stevenson. As Gavin Bell, the critically acclaimed travel writer, states in his foreword: ‘Admirers of RLS’s work will welcome this judicious selection of sketches from an itinerant life. Those less familiar with his blythe spirit are in for a rare treat, a voyage of discovery with the teller of tales to where the surf murmurs on Parrot islands.’

Couple Of 72 Years Proves It’s Never Too Late To Have The Wedding Of Your Dreams

By Kristen Klein for Bridal Guide

When Mira and Bob Graves tied the knot back in 1942, they did what many young couples of their generation did — they had a quick, no-frills ceremony before Bob was shipped off to war. They’d only been dating for a few months, but they decided to elope right after witnessing their friends exchange vows in Reno.

Seventy-two years later, the happy couple lives at Antioch’s Quail Lodge Retirement Home, where they were named king and queen of the home’s Valentine’s Day celebration. The only problem: When asked to provide a picture of their wedding, they couldn’t — because none were ever taken.

Though the couple has never regretted their low-key wedding ceremony, they jumped at the chance for a wedding do-over when the home’s director, Jennifer Noble, made the suggestion. Noble sprang into action, working with the local community to secure a gown, tux, cake, flowers, music and, most importantly, a photographer.

Watch the sweet video above.

Wilderness Dreams

Wilderness Dreams

This book has been a long time in the writing. While Mike Cawthorne’s life over the last two decades has been mostly involved in climbing and journalism, he has managed to stow away a large memory bank of experiences of his times spent deep within the wilderness areas of Scotland. These eight extended essays begin with a canoe trip down the River Dee in 2002 (“Tale of Two Rivers”) and his epic round of the Munros in the company of his friend Dave Hughes in 1986 (“Paupers and Kings”). “Terra Ingognita” deals with the Monadliath mountains, ‘one of the last places left on these crowded islands where you can experience genuine solitude’. “Crofting on the Edge” deals with people Mike has encountered who have chosen to live in the most remote and inaccessible areas of Scotland as does “The Hermit’s Story”, which describes the life that James McRory-Smith chose to lead in Strathailleach, a shepherd’s cottage near Cape Wrath. “A Last Wild Place” describes the ruination of many of these wilderness areas and the efforts made by large energy companies to exploit these special places. ‘…only wilderness if you can be killed and eaten’ is a quote by American writer Edward Abbey referring to grizzly bears stalking humans in the Rockies. Mike recalls this in “Dying for Trees” as he spends a day on Creag Meagaidh with a deer-stalking party where a minor bio-diversity miracle has taken place by carefully controlling deer numbers to allow the spread of broadleaf woodland. “Scotland’s Alaska” is the final essay on Sutherland’s flow country…’the best and worst of wild Britain.’
