Eidos Names Handis Creative Director

Simon Spurr may have moved on as the designer of Eidos, but one of his colleagues is stepping into the role.
Michael Handis has been named creative director of the brand, the younger-skewed collection from Isaia. He succeeds Spurr who left to join Seven For All Mankind as global creative director in January.
Handis, a designer, stylist and archivist, will oversee the collection and its image.
Handis worked alongside Spurr at Kent & Curwen, Tommy Hilfiger, and Simon Spurr Collections. He has also worked with David Lipman, Karl Templer, and Peter Lindbergh.
Gianluca Isaia, chief executive officer of Isaia and Eidos, said, “We are confident that the brand’s path and momentum will continue to build based upon the success that we have seen over the past year. Eidos offers an easibility and modern perspective that is on the pulse of how men are wearing tailored clothing at the moment — mixing an element of streetwear casual with tailoring.”
Handis pointed to Eidos’ aesthetic as among its strengths. “Brand narratives with depth and passion are coveted now more than ever. It is the moment to tell this brand’s unique story and share its pedigree of sartorial excellence. I look forward to connecting the Neapolitan tradition and lineage of the Isaia family with the modern, international spirit of Eidos.”

Eidos Men’s Spring 2019

It’s a new day for Eidos.
The “younger cousin” of Italian luxury brand Isaia showcased its first full spring collection designed by Simon Spurr, who named creative director of the line last November, at an event at its Madison Square office Tuesday night. The lineup was called — appropriately — Contrast, which spoke to Spurr’s seamless integration of the company’s Neapolitan tailoring roots with what he described as “undertones of British punk.”
The English-born Spurr said, “Each season there will be a tailoring spine and then I’ll wrap something around the tailoring.”
This time around, that translated into Hawaiian-printed short-sleeve shirts, pink fringed suede jackets, indigo tie-dye jean jackets and Breton striped linen sweaters. Even the windowpane patterned suits were modernized. “We’ve done them in a younger way, printed them, they’re a little more graphic,” he said. Ditto for the silhouette, which was slim and youthful.
Isaia launched Eidos as a stand-alone brand in 2013, but Spurr’s addition has managed to elevate the label with an international point of view.

EXCLUSIVE: Simon Spurr Unveils His First Collection for Eidos

MILAN — “Making the brand younger, clean, more modern and elevated, slighter closer to the Isaia brand but distinctively different” is the mission that Simon Spurr said he embraced when, in November, he joined Eidos, the Isaia company’s advanced contemporary firm.
The New York-based, British designer — who has worked in the men’s wear departments of labels including Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren before launching his namesake brand — presented his first Eidos collection exclusively to WWD in the new Isaia headquarters here.
In order to attract “more fashion costumers” but at the same time target a broad audience in terms of age, Spurr designed a versatile collection that, unlike the quintessentially Italian Isaia tailored line, is rooted in an international aesthetic.
In keeping with the British designer’s signature style, the lineup is focused on clean, lean silhouettes infused with a touch of “romanticism and sensitivity,” explained Spurr, who also highlighted the “wearability” of the collection.

Featuring more tailoring than in previous seasons, the Eidos fall 2018 effort offers impeccable slim suits, including styles with double-breasted jackets reworked to accommodate six vertical buttons, instead of four. While the overall silhouette of the pants is straight and slim,

Ciongoli to Exit Eidos as Creative Director

Antonio K. Ciongoli, cofounder and creative director of Eidos, the more fashion-forward division of Isaia, is leaving the brand after this season to launch his own collection.
Ciongoli, who has designed the collection for four-and-a-half years, will stay on through the end of this season and retain his equity stake in the label.
“Building Eidos has been a life-changing experience for me and I cannot thank Gianluca Isaia and Jim Shay [Isaia’s U.S. president] enough for the opportunity to do so,” he said. “While moving on from anything one cares about is difficult, I am optimistic about Eidos’ potential and I look forward to watching its future evolution,” Ciongoli said.
He declined to provide details about his next project at this point, saying he would unveil weekly updates via his Instagram account.
“In the last six years, I have seen the retail landscape change dramatically. The value in today’s market is the opportunity to connect directly with the people to whom our product speaks, and I’m interested in creating an immersive, content-driven platform that expands that dialogue.”
Gianluca Isaia, Isaia’s chief executive officer and third generation owner, cited Ciongoli’s “expertise and design talent” as “contributing factors to Eidos’ success in the global marketplace. We wish
