Emily Bode Preps for Paris Debut

NEW YORK — Walking into Emily Adams Bode’s Chinatown studio is a little like visiting grandma’s attic. The cramped space in the walk-up building on East Broadway is chock full of antique quilts, tobacco labels, horse ribbons and a hodgepodge of other early American artifacts that provide the first glimpse into the heritage-skewed men’s wear that has put the young designer on the map.
And how. Bode’s brand might be only three years old, but she already has received more accolades than designers who have been around for decades.
She was the first female designer to show at New York Fashion Week: Men’s and was the runner-up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Earlier this month, she snagged the Emerging Designer of the Year Award at the CFDA Awards at the Brooklyn Museum. And, oh yes, she’s been shortlisted for the LVMH Prize, one of the biggest awards in fashion for a young designer.
The LVMH Prize is one of the reasons Bode is also making another bold move with her relatively young label — she’s decamping from New York — to join the already packed Paris schedule.
She may be heading to the French capital to show, but it’s her American roots that drive her,

Who Is Emily Ratajkowski’s Husband? Five Things to Know About Sebastian Bear-McClard

Emily Ratajkowski is a married woman.

In a surprise ceremony, the 26-year-old model tied the knot to actor and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, with whom she only started cozying up in the past few weeks, at City Hall in N.Y.C.

“I got married today,” Ratajowski wrote on a selfie with her new husband as part of a series of pics she posted right after the quick ceremony. In the snap, Bear-McClard kisses the model’s cheek as the couple holds hands. While Ratajkowski went without a massive diamond engagement ring (the couple both are wearing a simple gold band), her hubby flashed two other rings on his fingers that read “EM” and “RATA.”

So who is Bear-McClard? Here are five things to know about Ratajkowski’s husband.

1. He’s an actor and producer

Bear-McClard most recently produced the 2017 film Good Time, starring Robert Pattinson. He’s also worked on several indie films including Heaven Knows What (2014), and Still Life (2006).

In 2014, Joshua and Ben Safdie, a New York-based writer/producer/director duo, launched Elara Pictures with Bear-McClard and producer Oscar Boyson as partners.

Bear-McClard has been nominated for multiple Gotham Independent Film Awards, including Best Feature Film for Good Time. He was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in 2014 for Heaven Knows What.

2. He comes from a family of artists

Bear-McClard’s dad is an artist who moved to New York after graduating from the San Fransisco Art Institute.

“Michael was a teen rebel in the 60’s and decided he was an artist and graduated with honors from San Fransisco Art Institute and moved to New York,” Peter McClard, Bear-McClard’s uncle, tells PEOPLE. “He is an amazing artist. Some time in the 70’s he met Liza Bear and though they never married, the Bohemians that they were, they had Sebastian.”

Michael McClard currently has art on display at the Baahng Gallery in New York.

Because of his parents’ involvement in the NYC art scene, Bear-McClard grew up going to galleries and industry parties.

“Sebastian was a great, totally New York-bred kid and spent his youth being dragged to cool art events, parties and surrounded by the hippest of the hip New York art scene in the 80s and 90s.”

3. He is friends with social media star Fat Jewish

Fat Jewish (real name Josh Ostrovsky) served as a witness at Bear-McClard’s wedding ceremony, but the two go way back.

“In High School or shortly thereafter he met some friends and they had a rap group called Team Facelift and Sebastian was their official videographer,” says Peter McClard. “They were hilarious and talented and their frontman was the Fat Jew.”

The social media star also appears in Bear-McClard’s Facebook default photo.

4. His relationship with Ratajkowski has been low-key

Rumors began swirling that they were an item after the producer and model were spotted packing on the PDA on Valentine’s Day.

Though photos of them only surfaced a few weeks ago, they’ve known each other longer, according to sources.

The two had yet to go public until their wedding announcement.

5. He has his family’s support

“We’re proud of him for settling down with Emily and what he’s done and about to do in his film career,” says Peter McClard. “He’s a good, caring guy and a great listener and people love working with him because he gets things done. Apparently, Emily loves him too.”

Boy Oh Boy! Jane the Virgin Star Justin Baldoni and Wife Emily Welcome Son Maxwell Roland-Samuel

It’s a Baldoni baby boy!

Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily are parents for a second time — to a son named Maxwell Roland-Samuel Baldoni, PEOPLE confirms exclusively. Born on Wednesday, Oct. 18, little Maxwell measured 21½ inches in length and weighed 8 lbs., 7 oz.

“Our little Maxwell Roland-Samuel Baldoni came into this world on Wednesday and showed us that it was possible for our hearts to double in size … again,” the couple tells PEOPLE exclusively. (They are also parents to 2-year-old daughter Maiya.)

“Maiya is so excited to have a baby brother and is already helping change his diapers and giving him tons of kisses,” add the new parents of two. “We want to thank everyone for all the love and prayers. We are so grateful.”

The 33-year-old actor announced in May that the couple would be adding to their brood, sharing a touching video featuring Maiya telling friends and family that she’s going to be a big sister.

“Surprise!! With insane amounts of joy, gratitude (and yes, lets be real, a tiny bit of fear) … Emily, Maiya and I are thrilled to announce that our little family is GROWING!!! WHOHOOOO!!!!!!!” he wrote on Instagram.

“Baby Baldoni #2 is currently cooking in the most beautiful, thoughtful, kind, and compassionate oven on the planet @emilybaldoni,” Justin added. “With so much darkness in the world, there’s nothing like the announcement of brand new, pure and innocent life to bring joy to the hearts of the people we love so much.”

The spouses of four years shared exclusive photos from their son’s nursery with PEOPLE in early October, with Justin telling PEOPLE at the time, “The chaos of raising a family is filled with highs and lows and ups and downs, and it’s all about Emily and me coming together as a couple and as a family unit and figuring out how to do this.”

“Raising a child is a big responsibility — but it’s also awesome,” he explained.

And while Maiya is, according to her dad, “going to become an amazing big sister who is so nurturing and caring,” he and Emily told PEOPLE earlier this month that there are “some fears” about their shifting family dynamic.

“One is like, ‘How am I ever going to be able to love this little child as much as I love Maiya?’ ” Emily explained. “I know it’s a common fear and it’s very, very real.”

RELATED: See All the Photos from Justin and Emily Baldoni’s “Bright” Nursery for Their Son: “Light Equals Happiness”

“As most parents say, your heart just expands and your love is there and you fall in love all over again,” she continued, “but before you experience that, there’s a fear of, ‘Oh my gosh, how am I going to fall in love with this little creature like I have with Maiya?’ ”

Added Justin of the challenges, “I think it’s important to talk about because, generally, you read articles like this and it’s really cute — ‘Oh, we love our nursery’ and, ‘Oh, we’re really happy’ and, ‘Oh, life is beautiful‘ — but in reality, all of us are scared out of our minds, we’re stressed, things are crazy. We’re figuring this out like everybody else.”

Fitness Star Emily Skye Stopped Taking Antidepressants Thanks to Exercise: ‘I Felt Like a Superhero’

Before fitness became a vital part of Emily Skye‘s life, the influencer struggled with depression, disordered eating and bullying.

At just 11 years old, a doctor put Skye on antidepressants.

“In grade school, they’d make frog noises when I walked past because I had big eyes, and they called me Stick Creature because I was skinny,” the Australian, 32, tells Women’s Health for the July/August cover.

Skye started modeling at age 13 — her mom’s attempt to help her gain confidence — but being around the other girls only lowered her self-esteem.

“I’d go to castings and compare myself to the other women,” she says. “I would think, ‘I’m not pretty enough or skinny enough.’ But I kept modeling because I needed praise to feel loved.”

And in her 20s, Skye was working out excessively — two hours of cardio a day — while eating just carrots, celery and hummus to stay a size zero.

“ on the verge of an eating disorder,” she says, “but I wasn’t fit or healthy. I had so much self-hate that sometimes I didn’t feel like I wanted to live.”

But at age 24, Skye found fitness magazines and started on a path that would eventually become her career.

“The women seemed so strong and healthy,” she says. “I loved the idea of using weights to transform your body, to look and feel powerful.”

With each workout, Skye started to feel better about herself, and was able to stop taking antidepressants.

“Before I had this cloudy feeling, and now, the sun was shining. I thought, ‘This is what being alive is like.’ I felt like a superhero,” she says.

Now Skye — who recently announced that she’s pregnant with her first child — has 2.1 million Instagram followers who love her ability to give out smart fitness advice while still keeping it real about belly bloat and “transformation” photos.

“It’s so important for women to remember that the people who inspire them are human and shouldn’t be put up on pedestals,” she says.

Emily And Haley Ferguson Might Be Taylor Swift’s Long-Lost Sisters

If you’re a member of Bachelor Nation, then you’re aware of Emily and Haley Ferguson, the identical twins who vied for “Bachelor” star Ben Higgins’ heart on Season 20 before trying to find love on “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 3. Although they walked away from both shows single, they will always have each other, which is why Freeform decided to give them their own reality series, “The Twins: Happily Ever After?” (following their memorable appearances on Higgins and fiancée Lauren Bushnell’s show, “Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?”).

“We’re living the life out in Las Vegas, but then [our mom] is sending us out, we have to leave the house, and we decide to make the move out to LA,” Haley explained of the show’s premise during a Build Series interview with The Huffington Post, adding, “Before that, we explore some different career options out in Vegas. We try mermaids, magicians’ assistants … sushi models.”

But what the twins should really think about doing is being Taylor Swift impersonators, because man, they look a lot like her.

“We get that a lot,” Haley said when asked about the twins’ resemblance to Swift. “We might be [her long-lost sisters].”

“I wish,” Emily chimed in.

“I wouldn’t be mad about it,” Haley insisted.

For now, though, the twins are sticking to their reality-star shenanigans and Instagram sponsorships as their day jobs, but might make another appearance on “Bachelor in Paradise” this summer if they feel it works with their schedule.

“If we got asked to go back to ‘Bachelor in Paradise,’ right now, we’re in such a good place and I’m really happy with everything that’s going on that honestly it’s something we wouldn’t want to do right now in this moment,” Emily said, “but we keep saying, ‘Never say never.’”

“The Twins: Happily Ever After?” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform. Watch the full Build Series interview with Emily and Haley below.

Emily Ratajkowski in Twinset Simona Barbieri’s Milan Store

A DJ set, cocktails being served throughout the store, but above all: followers — a very small part of her 11 million Instagram followers, of course. Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski was in Twinset Simona Barbieri’s Milan store Tuesday night to launch the brand’s spring ad campaign.
“I do like Twinset because it’s chic and elegant,” explained Ratajkowski. Creative director Simona Barbieri “creates easy-to-wear dresses, which are very sexy and feminine with a touch of a masculine look at the same time.”
Ratajkowski wore a total white look. “I really feel at ease in this dress, I feel very cool,” she said.
The model said she knew the Italian brand long before being its face. “I remember when I traveled to Venice with my parents, I saw Twinset posters around the city and that’s when I started to like it,” she said.
The new Twinset campaign tells the story of two friends’ journey — Ratajkowski and Sasha Pivovarova — and was photographed in Santa Barbara, Calif., by Giampaolo Sgura. Edward Enninful styled the campaign.

Talking With Emily Tarver About ‘Donny’ And Her First Big-Time Role

“Donny” is a new comedy following real life ad-man, TV personality, and single father Donny Deutsch. Deutsch plays himself as the moronic host of a “Dr. Phil”-style daytime talk show under the direction of his executive producer/adult nanny, Pam (played by Emily Tarver). The show has a unique structure. It’s loosely scripted, and as a result, reads half reality show, half single camera comedy. I had the pleasure of talking to Emily Tarver about the real Donny, her character in the show, and what it’s like getting her first big time recurring role.

This is so cool! We used to hang out at UCB and now we have cool jobs!

Yeah, we’re not poor improvisers working for free!

Is this your first recurring role in a TV show?

Yes, this is my first recurring role that actually turned out to be a recurring role. I’ve booked other recurring roles that didn’t turn out to be recurring. So this is nice!

Tell me about the show and your character. You’re Donny’s executive producer?

Yes, I play the EP of the show within the show. She’s also the person in Donny’s life who keeps him in line and cleans up all the messes that he makes. The show is like “Seinfeld,” where the topic of the show within the show is normally the topic or the theme of the episode.

What has been your favorite topic?

Without giving anything away, he does one where the topic of the show within the show is about men of a later age coming out of the closet after being in a heterosexual marriage. Donny tries to be supportive of that and, in being supportive, he kind of announces that he is gay. That isn’t what he’s saying but while he’s trying to be brave for these people, he sounds like he’s coming out. So I have to clean up that mess. Not that it’s a PR nightmare; it’s just that he isn’t gay.

What’s your character trying to do on the show? Is Pam trying to get out of the show or this is her big shot as a producer?

Donny sees something in her and tells her that she is to come with him wherever he goes. And, over time, she grew into this position of alpha female and his producer of things. In real life, Donny surrounds himself with very strong women who put him in his place. And so I’m the shining symbol of that. I don’t put up with his shit and he doesn’t impress me. But she enjoys the challenge and she enjoys smacking his hand when he does something so Donny.

The show has a different type of look to it. Parts of it feel like a reality show. Others feel like “The Office.”

I definitely think that was done on purpose. A lot of people don’t know Donny or what he is about. People are like: is he an actor? A host? So the show’s trying to represent a lot of different genres. And because he’s playing himself, that reality feeling you get is because you can’t pin him down. It might be confusing for some people, but I think it’s cool to watch a show and go, “What is this?” Because the only answer is: Oh! It’s something new!

It does read very new because when you watch it, Donny doesn’t feel like an actor. He feels like the real thing and everybody else is acting around him. Was it weird acting with a guy playing himself?

Yeah! And I don’t want to toot Donny’s horn too much, but he’s just a genius and he’s so good at everything he tries. I think a big part of it is his extreme confidence. When we filmed the pilot presentation, he was giving me notes on my acting. And I was like, “Ahhh, OK.” And he was right about a lot of stuff. Being on set with him, he’ll have notes for actors and production and story and he’ll he right a lot of the time.

I also noticed that this season of TV is centered around older, distinguished antiheroes, like “The Grinder” or “Grandfathered.” “Donny” seems like a different take on it. Do you think this is a wave?

I think people are quick to categorize things because that’s how our brains work. These shows are so different and so good. And I don’t think “Donny” can be put into that category based on the lead because he’s surrounded by so many women. And Donny himself is such a feminist. He wants to tell women’s stories and have female perspectives on his life at all times. And the show reflects that. Donny doesn’t even have a male best friend.

How is doing press? Is this your first time doing big time junkets and stuff?

Yeah, we went to LA. It was just Donny and me. It was really fun.

What’s that like?

Well, you sit on stage in front of a bunch of long tables with people from different blogs on their laptops. And they have a bunch of questions. Then you go to a little room with 12 cameras. And a person has a bunch of questions. Luckily, Donny is used to it. I’m there as Emily, but also as Pam. Emily and Pam are very similar in terms of how they treat Donny. And our interaction is very organic. It’s actually been that way since my callback for the show. I had to do it with Donny while everybody on the show watched.

Are you and Donny on a texting basis?

I actually don’t have his number. And I haven’t asked for it, because I don’t want him to think that I want it. I want him to ask me for my number. And then he can be impressed that I have a 212 number.

Well, that’s a Season 2 thing.

Yeah, Season 2 for sure.

That’s odd. He seems like a guy who would need to be in constant communication with the people working close with him.

Well, I think he’s scared of me. I think he thinks I’m way cooler than him. I bet he thinks if he texted me it would bother me. I’ll never tell him that I think he’s cool. He can read it in your article.

Emily Tarver stars as Pam in USA’s “Donny“ premiering Tuesday, Nov. 10th at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Cupcakes and Cashmere Blogger Emily Schuman Is Launching a Clothing Line

Emily Schuman, the creator and life-envy-inducing blogger behind Cupcakes and Cashmere, has officially thrown her hat into the fashion designer ring.

She revealed today in a blog post on her site that she’s launching a 40-piece collection on July 6, which will debut exclusively at Nordstrom and ShopBop. As Schuman writes, the West Coast serves as a major point of inspiration for the collection:

“Over the past 18 months, we’ve been working on our biggest project to date, one that reflects the true soul of the site and shows the evolution of the brand. On July 6, we’re launching a Cupcakes and Cashmere clothing line, selling exclusively at Nordstrom and ShopBop. The inspiration behind the fall 2015 line is centered around three thematic locations: Los Angeles (edgy, urban), San Francisco (preppy, polished), and Malibu (relaxed, trendy). We developed a line that can be mixed and matched with anything in your closet, focused on quality tailoring and materials, while hitting an affordable price point. It turned out better than I ever imagined.”

Schuman isn’t the first fashion blogger to jump on the design train—she’s following in the footsteps of folks like Rumi Neely and Elin Kling, both of whom started independent luxury basics lines (not to be confused with collaborations) within the last two years. If the images on Schuman’s site are any indication, this line will address the wants and needs of her passionate fan base—scalloped-hem shirts and skirts, leather jackets, chambray tops—quite handily.

While a full look book has yet to be released, you can head over to Cupcakes and Cashmere to get a sneak peek at what’s to come.

Fancy yourself a big Cupcakes and Cashmere fan? Check out Schuman’s gorgeous home and her jewelry collection.

I’m talking about The Other Thing, written by Emily Schwend and directed by Lucie Tiberghien, at Second Stage’s McGinn/Cazale Theatre Uptown, and Nice Girl, written by Melissa Ross and directed by Mimi O’Donnell, at Labyrinth’s current Bank Street Theatre home. It’s a rare combination of women helming works by women, but it’s just happened.

The Other Thing has another rare attribute in that it’s a ghost story for the stage. Or is it? Kim (Samantha Soule) is interviewing Carl (John Doman) on a subject about which she’s become obsessed: ghost-hunting. She listens to him describe his adventures for some time, also encountering his son Brady (James Kautz). She’s benignly taking notes and recording right up until something unexpected and intensely theatrical occurs that puts a jarring end to the first act.

At that point Kim — it could be Samantha Soule as herself — enters from the side, waving hello to someone or someones in the audience and says she’s going to tell a genuine ghost story. She starts talking about a little girl who unfortunately is witness to her mother’s murder. What she has to say begins to sound as if it might be connected to the first-act development.

When she’s completed the story, the next act begins with Kim in her bedroom where estranged boyfriend, Thomas (Bhavesh Patel), turns up to affect a reconciliation. (He still had keys.) Although Kim eventually acquiesces, she seems to be taken over by some unexplained force for a brief time. Then and suddenly, something like the incident that ended the first act takes place.

That’s when what has slowly been suggested about Kim — her own experiences with ghosts and how they’ve affected her — speeds up. As young Brady arrives to challenge Kim’s account of her visit to his dad and its abrupt conclusion, playwright Schwend reveals her preoccupation with ghosts more clearly. The hints — okay, they’re stronger than hints — are that the bodies piling up have more to do with Kim than she owns.

Ultimately, Schwend does let on what’s happening. Indeed, before she finishes her ghost story, she may have over-explained herself. What she has to confide about Kim and the relationship to her deceased(?) mother may be more than a savvy audience needs to learn, since they’ve already correctly figured it out.

What Schwend wants to establish about ghost proliferation — that more often than not their apparent appearance can be traced to emotional conflicts — is persuasive, and she has fun presenting her case on Kris Stone’s adaptable set. With the cast doing their utmost, under Tiberghien’s guidance to raise the play’s scare barometer, she keeps the play’s engine purring.

At the same time, and underlying her storyline, is the suggestion that unresolvable animosity between the sexes is rampant. As audience members exit the theater, they may be wondering whether that eternal man-woman anger isn’t something the playwright is working out for herself or on behalf of women friends. Whether or not, Schwend has conjured a rootin’-tootin’ escapade.

There’s no doubting that Ross’s Nice Girl has the appropriate title. Josephine (Diane Davis) is definitely a nice girl — not that she can always resist the temptation to swap sarcasms with habitually disapproving mother Francine (Kathryn Kates) in the modest David Meyer-designed home they share.

Josephine is getting closer to 40 than she’d like without being married, while feigning-illness Francine is wavering, at best, on the prospect of Josephine’s tying the knot with an eligible man. That man — former classmate, Donny (Nick Cordero) — turns up not too long after Josephine has run into him at his butcher shop and later that night encounters him again at a local nightclub where office pal, the fast-moving co-worker Sherry (Liv Rooth), has dragged her.

Apparently no longer married to his high school sweetheart, Donny turns out to be as nice a guy as Josephine is a nice girl — although there is a complication involving Sherry. As Josephine and Donny renew their friendship, they begin to show signs of having a future together, not that Francine doesn’t lodge objections and not that those objections don’t carry more weight with Josephine, despite the breakthroughs she and Donny make with each other. The respective honesty about their own failings is one of the strongest of dramatist Ross’s attractions.

Ross is writing about people who live their lives in quiet desperation around the kitchen table, on the front-porch swing, at their workaday jobs and during their unrewarding pastimes. She does a commendable job of capturing the plights of people who don’t expect happiness but are willing to settle for the best they think they can get. In this, she not only includes Josephine and Francine but Donny and Sherry as well. Making her melancholy point(s), she’s aided by her cast and director O’Donnell, who couldn’t be more sympathetic to the potentially deleterious effects of niceness.

Masters Of Love – Emily Esfahani Smith – The Atlantic

Every day in June, the most popular wedding month of the year, about 13,000 American couples will say “I do,” committing to a lifelong relationship that will be full of friendship, joy, and love that will carry them forward to their final days on this earth.

Except, of course, it doesn’t work out that way for most people. The majority of marriages fail, either ending in divorce and separation or devolving into bitterness and dysfunction. Of all the people who get married, only three in ten remain in healthy, happy marriages, as psychologist Ty Tashiro points out in his book The Science of Happily Ever After, which was published earlier this year.
