Saks Scores Retail Exclusive of Kim Jones’ Dior Men’s Collection

Saks Fifth Avenue has managed to snag the early launch of the much-coveted debut collection of Kim Jones for Dior Men.
Although the line will be offered at other stores in early February — including in an installation with some exclusive pieces at Nordstrom Men in New York and Seattle — Saks has secured the early retail exclusive for the line. The line has already launched at Dior’s stores, including the eight in the U.S. that carry men’s wear.
Saks will be carrying the full collection of ready-to-wear, sneakers and accessories embellished with the brand’s signature bee logo that has been reimagined by street artist KAWS.
The summer collection will be available at Saks’ New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Houston and Toronto stores on Jan. 16, two weeks ahead of other retailers. It will not be available online at Saks but is being sold on the Dior e-commerce site.
Product pricing will range from $ 490 for a KAWS bee T-shirt to $ 5,900 for a crystal KAWS bee denim jacket.

“Imagine you are in Cartagena for the weekend, spending your days at the beach and at night you are going to different parties and dinners,” said Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director at Net-a-porter. That whimsical idea was the starting point for the e-tailer’s newest exclusive curation of brands and capsule collections called the “Colombian Collective.” The vacation-wear assortment of clothing and accessories, unveiled Jan. 15, comes in the form of mini capsule collections from designers firmly anchored in the roots and culture of their native of Colombia.
The retailer has picked up a lot of designers from the South American country as of late which organically led von der Goltz to the ideation of a collective theme. The curation includes ready-to-wear capsules from Johanna Ortiz, Esteban Cortazar, Silvia Tcherassi, Verdelimon and The Lazy Poet. Accessories and jewelry designers in the mix include Bibi Marini, Mallarino, Mercedes Salazar, Carolina Santo Domingo, Hunting Season, Verdi, Magnetic Midnight and the Muzungu Sisters.

LONDON — Ten years after generating buzz with a first collection of eight garments made from military parachute fabric and big ambitions around recycling, Christopher Raeburn is gaining even greater recognition in an industry that is waking up at last to environmental sustainability and responsible design.
As Timberland’s global creative director, the London-based designer sees an opportunity to give his sustainability mission a broader, more global platform, while at his own label, Raeburn has brought on board his brother and fellow designer, Graeme Raeburn, as performance director, a new role.
The brothers are now aiming to push the boundaries of design, material innovation and waste reduction further and to redefine what success means along the way.
“For us, success is not about Raeburn products being in every store or on every street corner, quite the opposite. EXCLUSIVE: Kent & Curwen Teams With ‘Peaky Blinders’ on Capsule

SNEAK PEAKY: Kent & Curwen is hitting the gritty streets of Twenties Birmingham, England, collaborating with the makers of “Peaky Blinders,” the hit BBC TV crime drama, on a capsule collection.
The capsule will make its debut on Sunday during the Kent & Curwen presentation at the grand Two Temple Place, overlooking the Thames, WWD has learned.
David Beckham, an investor in Kent & Curwen and the face of its campaigns, his eldest son Brooklyn and “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight are expected to be at the Kent & Curwen show. The award-wining series, which began airing in 2013, stars Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson, and the next season is due to start in September, just as the collection drops in-store.
Kent & Curwen designer Daniel Kearns has created a three-piece tweed suit, lightweight frock coat, collarless shirts inspired by Twenties styles, peg leg trousers and flat caps. Some styles have printed canvas patches featuring the brand’s rose motif done as a Victorian-era photograph with the writing, “Garrison Tailors by Order of the Peaky Blinders.”
Garrison Tailors is a men’s wear clothing company founded by the show’s creator, Knight. The British-made tailored clothing is inspired by the Peaky Blinders-era costumes.

EXCLUSIVE: Moschino to Host Men’s 2019 Show in Rome

MILAN — Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott is ready to take Rome, WWD has learned.
The Italian brand will show its men’s fall 2019 and its women’s pre-fall 2019 collections with a special runway event to be hosted the night of Jan. 8 in the Italian capital.
“I have chosen to show the collection in Rome at the historic Cinecittà studios as the show is an homage to the great Federico Fellini who filmed some of his most iconic films there,” Scott said.
“I’ve taken inspiration from his body of work and the amazing characters he has created from the films ‘Roma,’ ‘La Dolce Vita,’ ‘Satyricon,’ ‘8 1/2’ and ‘Casanova,’ to name a few.”
Scott is not the first international designer to choose Cinecittà as the set of his show. In December 2015, Karl Lagerfeld hosted the Chanel Métiers d’Art fall 2015 runway show at the Roman studios, where he recreated the streets of Paris.
The Moschino runway show will coincide with the Florentine men’s trade show Pitti Immagine Uomo, which opens the same day and ends on Dec. 11.
Previously, Scott has shown his men’s collections for the Moschino brand in London, Los Angeles and Milan.

The approach to this link-up is multitiered. Swarovski and Brightman created a line of unisex and bespoke jewelry that will be available for purchase at Brightman’s concerts and online; plus, the company applied more than 600,000 Swarovski crystals to the costumes — and a custom tiara, which Brightman co-designed — she’ll wear on tour. A limited-edition version of her new album “Hymn,” customized by Swarovski, will also be for sale, replete with exclusive bonus content.
As part of her involvement with the design and consultation process, Brightman traveled to the brand’s headquarters in Wattens, Austria, to check out the corporate archives and gain further inspiration for her collection.

MILAN — Neil Barrett is boosting its distribution with key openings and a new web site.
As a first step of a retail strategy aimed at bringing the brand founded in 1999 by British designer Neil Barrett in the most prestigious streets of the key international cities in the world, the fashion label is gearing up to unveil its first store in London.
Opening its doors just in time for the holiday season, the shop will occupy 2,153 square feet on Conduit Street in the heart of the Mayfair neighborhood and feature a “revisited, cozier version of the store concept by Zaha Hadid Architects, which is already on show in our 30 monobrand stores around the world,” said Neil Barrett chief executive officer Carlo Barone Lumaga, during an interview at the company’s headquarters in Milan.

PARIS — L’Exception, the Paris-based online retailer dedicated to French labels, is launching a direct-to-consumer private label men’s line.
The idea, said founder Régis Pennel, is not to go into competition with the brands they sell but to present a complementary line of basics. The preppy line includes parkas, roll necks in merino wool, old-school cardigans and flannel shirts, with prices going from 35 euros for a T-shirt to 120 euros for a denim jacket.

Designing the line is Rémi de Laquintane, founder of Laquintane and cofounder of Parisian men’s wear label Éditions MR, both of which are carried by L’Exception. Lewis Lazar and Christopher Moore of French group the Oracle Sisters, which channels a Seventies vibe, are cited as the muses of the collection.
Launching on Oct. 11, the line will be sold exclusively on the retailer’s site and in a dedicated corner at its brick-and-mortar store in the Forum des Halles shopping center, with regular drops and a focus on European materials and production. The details of the supply chain will be shared on the site.
Pennel described the line as being very Parisian in style — “classic with a twist.”

FASHION FOCUS: Thylane Blondeau couldn’t find that perfect sweatshirt, so she decided to design her own. And that led to the 17-year-old French model and actress — a L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador — to conceive a full urban clothing line under the brand Heaven May (after her middle name), WWD has learned.
Blondeau’s followers — she has 2.4 million on Instagram alone — will be able to rock the look sold on her own site, heavenmay.com, starting Oct. 11.
“I have a lot of fans, and they’re always like: ‘Where did you buy this? Where did you find this?’” she said. “And I was like, everything they like I am going to do it for them and for me.
“I wanted to do my own brand, my own thing,” she continued. “I love clothes.”
Her first sweatshirt was black, with her label’s logo on the back. “Then I did pants, and after had to do socks and shoes — everything,” explained Blondeau.

The introduction of Maison-Alaia.com, a project started with the house’s namesake founder, who died unexpectedly in late 2017, marks an important milestone

Communications executive Annika McVeigh has just joined Maison Alaïa as director of communications following a seven-year stint as director of communications at Celine, amid a flurry of exhibitions dedicated to Alaïa’s exacting, sculptural designs. That includes a soon-to-wrap retrospective at London’s Design Museum, which the designer, who died of heart failure, helped curate.
Maison Alaïa operates two brick-and-mortar flagships: a three-story boutique opened on Paris’ Rue de Marignan in 2013 and a store on London’s New Bond Street, whose ribbon was cut in April by longtime Alaïa friend and muse Naomi Campbell.
Net-A-Porter became the brand’s first online retail partner in 2017. The new digital flagship falls under YNAP’s Online Flagship Stores division, helmed by Francesca Tranquilli, through a five-year partnership.

Jordyn Woods: activewear designer.
Woods, a Wilhelmina model and influencer, is launching a fashion label called Secndnture, pronounced second nature. The debut line is a size-inclusive, 24-piece collection of activewear made in partnership with apparel manufacturing company Instaco.
“I always wanted to start my own business,” Woods said over the phone from Los Angeles. “I chose the name Secndnture because everything in life that comes natural to you is second nature. I thought it would be perfect for activewear because your activewear should feel like a second skin.”
Secndnture’s debut collection spans sports bras, bodysuits, biker shorts, high-waisted leggings, tops and jackets. Sizes go from XS to 2X with prices ranging from $ 45 to $ 79. The line, manufactured in China in a WRAP-certified factory, will launch on Aug. 30 as a digital first brand with pop-ups to come. Future releases will be limited edition and will take place every couple of months.
Woods, 20, has previously collaborated with BooHoo and Addition Elle on apparel, as well as with Barney’s on a shoe line. She is known for her close friendship with Kylie Jenner, with whom she currently lives, and has appeared in Jenner’s reality TV series “Life of Kylie,” as well as “Keeping Up With the

24 Sèvres Teams with Louis Vuitton on Exclusive Capsule

LONDON — 24 Sèvres is continuing its commitment to offer exclusive product from LVMH-owned labels that don’t have wide e-commerce presence.
After teaming with Céline on an exclusive range, the retailer’s next project includes the release of an exclusive capsule with Louis Vuitton.
Five of the most buzzy products from the label’s fall 2018 collection have been reissued for the capsule, including a black logo dress, the popular “Vanity” structured tote bag in taupe, the “Party” aviator sunglasses in blue-tinged frames and the famous Archlight sneakers recreated in a blue, yellow and white color palette.
“As the exclusive retailer for Louis Vuitton, 24 Sèvres has been a partner of the Maison since day one. This collaboration was a natural next step,” said a company representative, pointing to the retailer’s commitment to offering unique pieces that can’t be found anywhere else.
“This has informed the regular capsules and collaborations released since the launch in June 2017. Exclusive product is at the center of our product strategy.”

EXCLUSIVE: Longchamp to Stage First Fashion Show in New York

PARIS — In one of the latest twists in the trans-Atlantic fashion show shuffle, Longchamp is planning to stage its first official runway show at New York Fashion Week this fall. Known for its best-selling Le Pliage bag, the French leather goods firm has expanded its ready-to-wear offering over recent years as part of its repositioning as a lifestyle brand.
The New York show is scheduled for Sept. 8, with the venue yet to be confirmed. The family-owned brand also plans to stage an event on its home turf at the Opéra Garnier in Paris on Sept. 11.
The NYFW show will cap Longchamp’s 70th anniversary celebrations and a U.S.-centric year for the brand. Building on its ambition to be seen as a fashion brand, Longchamp in May opened its Fifth Avenue flagship with a dedicated space for rtw and shoes in the center of the main floor, and launched a clothing and accessories capsule with Shayne Oliver. Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner, the new brand ambassador, is on board for four seasons, beginning with the fall 2018 campaign.

Kering’s Richard Ginori Joins With Secoo for Online China Exclusive

PORCELAIN IN CHINA: The Kering-owned Italian porcelain-maker Richard Ginori has struck a deal with Secoo, one of China’s largest premium e-commerce platforms, with an eye to growing business in the region, WWD has learned.
An announcement is expected on Tuesday.
Richard Ginori, which has been part of Kering since 2013 and which once counted Gucci designer Alessandro Michele as its creative director, will open a store on Secoo in an exclusive online collaboration for the Chinese market.
Secoo said the timing of the partnership is aligned with its strategy of becoming a leading premium lifestyle platform as well as a luxury e-commerce site. The site already carries a number of high-end European brands including Versace, Roger Vivier, Mr&Mrs Italy, Gucci and Rolex.
The site, which is listed on the Nasdaq, also provides services such as personal shopping, bespoke travel and personalized education. It also prides itself on strict authentication procedures and quality controls for its products, which range from in-season luxury merchandise to vintage and collectors’ items.

NEW FACE IN TOWN: Chanel’s haute couture show today will have a Latin flavor: Spanish star Penélope Cruz is due to attend the display in her new capacity as ambassador for the French fashion house.

Last season, instead of the traditional runway/performance extravaganza the company hosts, it staged “Be Heart, Make Noise,” an immersive music and fashion event done in collaboration with Adidas Originals. In the past, runway shows included celebrity guest judges such as Khloé Kardashian and Young Thug. For VFiles Runway 10, the brand is bringing its event a bit more down to earth by, for the first time, appointing a committee of eight industry leaders that will select and mentor show contestants throughout their journey to New York Fashion Week. After that, the VFiles team will provide mentorship for the following season. THE BEAT GOES ON: Faith Connexion and Swizz Beatz are making things official.
The rapper, DJ and producer, who has long been a fan of the collaborative label, has designed a capsule collection of 11 pieces that will be shown at the brand’s spring 2019 presentation in Paris on June 21, and hit stores this fall.
The items, which include hoodies, T-shirts, tracksuits and leather jackets, feature art by Nina Chanel Abney. Swizz Beatz collects works by the African-American artist, who explores race, gender, pop culture and politics in her brightly colored paintings, watercolors and collages.
“I love being partners with Faith because it’s the brand of freedom and the future. It’s also an honor to be working with the amazing Nina Chanel, who is a true artist in every form,” he said in a statement.
Faith Connexion president Maria Buccellati noted the tie-up was part of a long tradition of bringing together “creative souls” at the label, which has previously worked with influencer Sita Abellan, street artists Vincent Dacquin and Pisco Logik, and brands including Disney, Kappa and K-Way, among others.

CAPSULE CRAZY–Another day, another “exclusive” capsule collection. If that adjective fails to excite any longer, you’d be joining a growing set of voices in that view.
Conscious of consumer fatigue and a saturation point for limited edition products, Net-a-porter is trying to reinvent the future of an exclusive capsule.
Calling it “a work in progress”,  Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director for Net-a-porter said, “We’ve done them for such a long time. All of them almost have to be brands–we can’t say we don’t [let them]–but we like to be the only retailer you’re doing an exclusive collection for the year.”
She continued: “We’re seeing so much out there it’s getting a bit noisy to keep it really special. Every design needs to be unique and different. It’s not just a coloration, it [needs to be] different from the past seasons,” she said.
Since von der Goltz joined Net-a-porter, collaboration highlights include the debut of a Balenciaga collection, the Fendi logo project and securing a role as Kith’s exclusive online retail partner for women’s.

The limited-edition collection, Beltology x André, launches exclusively in Barneys New York’s retail locations and online June 2 during the retailer’s thedropLA@barneys events.
Beltology founders Andrew Heffernan and Anna Lundberg were local fans of Saraiva’s now shuttered Café Henri in New York when they approached him with the idea.
“We were looking to collaborate, but we thought he might be too big for our brand. MILAN — Continuing to speak with a French accent this year, Gucci’s Alessandro Michele is joining Paris Fashion Week this fall, WWD has learned.
Decamping from Milan for one season, the Italian luxury brand is to parade its spring-summer 2019 collection in the French capital on Sept. 24. The show marks the crescendo of a three-part homage to France conceived by Michele, creative director.
“Gucci is a global brand with deep and vibrant Italian roots and a visionary French shareholder, Kering,” said Marco Bizzarri, president and chief executive officer of Gucci. “When Alessandro told me of his desire to present the new collection in Paris — continuing the French-inspired narrative — I thought it was a perfect way to continue the creative homage to France.”
Bizzarri underscored that the show date marks the “transition day between Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks to avoid impacting schedules. We will then look forward to returning to Milan in February 2019.”
While foregoing a show in Milan for the season, the company is planning a special event to be held at the Gucci Hub on Wednesday, Sept. 19, the second day of Milan Women’s Fashion Week, scheduled to run Sept. 18-24. Details about the event are being kept under wraps.

PLAY IT AGAIN, STELLA: The Duchess of Sussex — her family and wedding guests — just couldn’t get enough of Stella McCartney this weekend. Although McCartney wasn’t the official dresser for Saturday’s nuptials, she certainly came close, creating outfits for the day under her Bespoke label.
After changing out of her white Givenchy Haute Couture gown, Meghan Markle moved onto Stella McCartney for the evening reception, by all accounts a lively affair during which the bride broke with tradition and made a speech.

She wore a sleeveless white silk crepe gown with a high collar, and bare shoulders, pairing the dress with Aquazzura satin shoes that had baby blue soles. The clean lines and silk fabric of McCartney’s dress echoed the minimal, unembellished dress she wore for her walk down the aisle.
“I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” said McCartney. “It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.”

EXCLUSIVE: Proenza Schouler Teams With Lancôme on Makeup Range

COLOR COLLABORATION: Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are teaming with Lancôme on a limited-edition makeup collection for fall, due out in July, WWD has learned.
The duo, whose fashion has been inspired by painters such as Carmen Herrera and Ellsworth Kelly, with distinctive approaches to color, was given carte blanche for their makeup creations.
“Lancôme has always represented the epitome of luxury beauty products, so it is like a dream come true to be able to collaborate with such an iconic and historic brand,” the duo said jointly in a statement.
Françoise Lehmann, general manager of Lancôme international, called Proenza Schouler fashion “the manifesto of a strong, free femininity. The idea of ‘empowerment’ is at the heart of their values, just as it has always been at the heart of the Lancôme philosophy.”
Proenza Schouler is the latest in a number of designer collaborations for Lancôme, which has worked on capsule color cosmetics lines with Olympia Le-Tan, Sonia Rykiel, Anthony Vaccarello, Jacquemus and Alber Elbaz — among others — in the past.
Proenza Schouler’s fragrance business is licensed to L’Oréal, also the owner of Lancôme.

Exclusive: Kim Kardashian West to Be Honored at CFDA Awards

If Donatella Versace, Naomi Campbell and Carolina Herrera, along with most of the biggest names in American fashion and various celebrity dates/presenters weren’t enough, Kim Kardashian West will grace the CFDA Fashion Awards next month as an honoree. Kardashian West is to be the first recipient of the CFDA Influencer Award.
According to CFDA president and chief executive officer Steven Kolb, it was all Tommy Hilfiger’s idea during the board meeting to decide the recipients of this year’s special honors. “Tommy Hilfiger said, ‘If you think about influencers and how they’ve changed our industry, I think we should acknowledge that,’” said Kolb. “[The board] all agreed that Kim was someone who has really impacted the industry and has changed the way brands are presented. She’s a friend of a lot of the designers and has had great influence on fashion globally.” Kolb said that with few exceptions — Rei Kawakubo and Johnny Depp among them — a condition of receiving a special award is mandatory attendance, to which Kardashian West agreed almost immediately.
Kolb couldn’t say whether the Influencer Award would be an ongoing thing after this year, but he did note the benefits that come with honoring a one-woman tentpole like

 SNOW QUEEN: Just weeks after being introduced as the latest brand ambassador for Chanel, Margot Robbie has stepped in front of the lens of creative director Karl Lagerfeld to appear in her debut advertising campaign for the French luxury house.
The Australian actress has been selected as the face of Chanel’s first Coco Neige collection, set to hit Chanel boutiques in July and August in tandem with its fall ready-to-wear. The line, dedicated to winter sports and après-ski, mixes technical pieces with classic Chanel codes like tweed, leather and camellia motifs.
Robbie is pictured against a background of blue sky and clouds wearing items including a soft chunky sweater, a parka or a down jacket. The eight visuals will break from June 10 in the July editions of leading international magazines.
“This shoot was one of the greatest experiences of my career. The energy and vibe on set was so wonderful and collaborative,” Robbie said in a statement.
“One of the first things Karl Lagerfeld said to me was that we never need to take ourselves too seriously. He has such a creative mind and he knows exactly what he wants and the minute he captured it, we were moving onto the next shot.

Cartier is again teaming up with Hollywood and adding Annabelle Wallis to the fold as the new face of its Panthère de Cartier, WWD has learned.
The multilingual British actress who starred in “Peaky Blinders,” “The Mummy,” “The Tudors” and “The Man Who Would Be Bond” is being tapped as a brand ambassador.
“Behind her luminous complexion, blue eyes and gentle manner, the Maison discovered a great strength of character, a fearless spirit and a hunger for self-expression: the soul of a panther, driven and determined to turn convention on its head and get her teeth into something. Annabelle Wallis embodies the Panthère woman,” Cartier said in a statement.
The confirmation of Wallis is a continuation of a new advertising direction for the fine jewelry brand, which recently revealed Jake Gyllenhaal as the face of the Santos de Cartier collection.
The Cartier Panthère jewelry motif originated  in 1914, with the Panthère de Cartier watch launched in the Eighties and is a staple in the Cartier watch collection alongside the Tank, Santos de Cartier and Ballon Bleu De Cartier.

DUBAI — Edgardo Osorio, creator of the luxury footwear brand Aquazzura, has big plans for his company. Here to celebrate the opening of his flagship in the region, he revealed that he aims to launch a men’s line within the next 18 months.
“It’s going to be modern, elegant leisure,” said Osorio. “I expect at least 50 percent will be sneakers. But sneakers you can wear to the office with a suit.”
Osorio said there is a gap in the market for men’s. “Men’s right now is either too fashion or too conservative; there isn’t a lot in between. As a man who travels for work all over the world, I find it difficult to find things I like. I end up getting one thing here, one thing there. But generally men don’t shop like that. They prefer a one-stop shop.” Osorio is confident he can fill that need. “If you have a brand that offers modern shoes at a competitive price point that feel comfortable and are young and have that elegance to them in a casual way, that will be a winning element.”

EXCLUSIVE: Porsche Design Fetes 40th Anniversary With a Special-edition Sunglass

Porsche Design is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its aviator sunglasses with a special-edition frame launching in mid April. The P’8478, as the aviator sunglasses are known, were the first frame on the market to provide an interchangeable lenses mechanism and the design has been left unchanged since.
“For the 40th anniversary edition of the P’8478 sunglasses, our designers at Studio FA Porsche wanted to make something special, but they didn’t want to compromise the well-known iconic design. Therefore we decided to implement a bi-color design — the first time we’ve done this to the P’8478. Previously, the frame and its hardware always matched,” said Karsten von Engeln, chief operating officer of Porsche Design of America. “Additionally, we decided to launch this edition accompanied by our three best-selling lenses from the past 40 years.”
The new special edition frame is made with a matte-black titanium frame, gradient gray lenses and gold nose-bridge. The frames come with four different pairs of lenses, a special travel case and are available in two sizes, each limited to 1,978 pairs to correlate with the 1978 release date.

The star of films including “Brokeback Mountain” and “Stronger” will appear in a film advertisement for the timepiece due to be released this spring in movie theaters and online.
“Integrity, dedication and boundless curiosity: Jake Gyllenhaal embodies the Santos de Cartier man. A man who commits utterly and does nothing by halves. A man who defines fearless as honest and true to himself,” Cartier said in a statement on Monday.
“Jake Gyllenhaal reveals a new side to his talent with every film, performing a wide variety of roles. Cartier was drawn to his invincible style and fearless spirit,” it added.

The endorsement marks a departure for Cartier, which has not previously featured a celebrity in its advertisements, although it has close relationships with film industry figures like Sofia Coppola, who as a “friend” of the house was pictured wearing its Clé de Cartier watch in 2016 and last year directed a commercial for the Panthère watch.
Though considered one of Hollywood’s most stylish leading men, Gyllenhaal has been highly selective in his brand endorsements.

EXCLUSIVE: Kris Van Assche Is Leaving Dior Homme

PARIS — Kris Van Assche is leaving Dior Homme after 11 years and will take up a new assignment within the LVMH Group, WWD has learned.
An official announcement is expected imminently, marking the first big change at Christian Dior Couture since Pietro Beccari arrived as chairman and chief executive officer six weeks ago.
Dior indicated Van Assche’s successor would be named “subsequently.”
According to sources, Kim Jones will take up the plum design role, two months after exiting as Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director, and reuniting him with Beccari, who had worked with the English designer when he was the No. 2 executive at Vuitton.
The same sources said Jones would present his first collection for Dior Homme in June.
He joins a clutch of prominent designers at Dior, headlined by Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessory collections, and Victoire de Castellane, its fine jewelry designer since 1998.
LVMH continues to flex its muscles in the burgeoning men’s fashion space, having lured Hedi Slimane back to the group to take over Céline and extend that 73-year-old brand into men’s wear for the first time.
The French luxury giant has also been investing heavily in Berluti, now under the design leadership

PARIS — Kim Jones is to present his first collection for Dior Homme in June as its new artistic director of ready-to-wear and accessory collections.
This confirms an earlier report on WWD.com that Jones, previously men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton, would succeed Kris Van Assche in the plum role. Jones starts April 1.
Van Assche exits Dior Homme after leading the brand for 11 years and is expected to take up a new assignment within LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
The arrival of Jones represents the first big move by Pietro Beccari, who became chairman and chief executive officer at Christian Dior Couture six weeks ago after stints at Fendi and Vuitton.
“I am delighted to welcome Kim Jones, with whom I had the chance to collaborate previously at Louis Vuitton,” Beccari told WWD. “I admire his creative vision, which combines both his own inspirations of contemporary culture and his own reinterpretation of specific codes and heritage of a house. EXCLUSIVE: Off-White Releases Capsule Collection With Sunglass Hut

Off-White’s Virgil Abloh is jumping back into the sunglasses market, and this time in a big way: Abloh is collaborating with Sunglass Hut to launch a capsule collection.
The designer already has numerous collaborations under his belt, including Off-White c/o Jimmy Choo for spring; Nike c/o Virgil Abloh the Ten, and Off-White c/o Warby Parker in July 2017, which was his first foray into the eyewear market. But the partnership with Sunglass Hut is a first for his brand in terms of size and scope.
“Sunglass Hut and Luxottica offer Off-White exposure to a wide audience that might not know about the brand,” Abloh said when asked about the reason to partner with the eyewear company. Sunglass Hut offers Abloh a reach on a global scale, including Asia, Mexico, Australia, the U.K. and the U.S.
“I’ve always thought of sunglasses as an important accessory in a fashion context. It’s a small object that can give you the nuances of a brand’s opinion on design,” Abloh said. “For me, I was looking to incorporate classic shapes from the past with a youthful modern elegance. All lenses are flat, which gives each style the same edge.”

PARIS — Kim Jones is to exit Louis Vuitton after showing his fall 2018 collection for the brand in Paris on Thursday, WWD has learned.
Jones has been men’s artistic director of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s flagship brand since 2011, parlaying his zest for exotic travel into ultraluxurious collections with understated cool and sly functionality.
“It has been a huge privilege to work with Kim,” said Michael Burke, Vuitton’s chairman and chief executive officer, lauding the designer’s “ability to set trends” along with his talent and determination. “All of us who have been fortunate to work with Kim wish him continued success in his next venture.”
Vuitton has yet to reveal its succession plan for the plum post, which has gained visibility thanks to Vuitton’s mighty show and campaign budgets, Jones’ clutch of celebrity friends and the brand’s high-profile collaborations with the likes of Supreme and British artists Jake and Dinos Chapman. Vuitton described Jones as “the driving force behind some of the Maison’s most successful projects and collaborations.”

Only three months after her stellar debut catwalk season, Kaia Gerber has inked her first big design collaboration, with Karl Lagerfeld, no less. The 16-year-old daughter of Cindy Crawford has worked on a capsule collection that will hit stores in September, WWD has learned exclusively.
Consisting of ready-to-wear and accessories, including footwear, sunglasses and jewelry, the line is described as blending Lagerfeld’s Parisian chic aesthetic and Gerber’s signature West Coast casual style, which has garnered her 2.7 million followers on Instagram.
The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection will launch globally in Karl Lagerfeld stores, online at Karl.com and with select wholesale partners.
Lagerfeld singled out Gerber as a rising talent months before her breakout season in September, which saw her walk the catwalk for 18 brands, including Calvin Klein, Prada, Saint Laurent and Versace.

EXCLUSIVE: Simon Spurr Unveils His First Collection for Eidos

MILAN — “Making the brand younger, clean, more modern and elevated, slighter closer to the Isaia brand but distinctively different” is the mission that Simon Spurr said he embraced when, in November, he joined Eidos, the Isaia company’s advanced contemporary firm.
The New York-based, British designer — who has worked in the men’s wear departments of labels including Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren before launching his namesake brand — presented his first Eidos collection exclusively to WWD in the new Isaia headquarters here.
In order to attract “more fashion costumers” but at the same time target a broad audience in terms of age, Spurr designed a versatile collection that, unlike the quintessentially Italian Isaia tailored line, is rooted in an international aesthetic.
In keeping with the British designer’s signature style, the lineup is focused on clean, lean silhouettes infused with a touch of “romanticism and sensitivity,” explained Spurr, who also highlighted the “wearability” of the collection.

EXCLUSIVE: Maison Margiela to Present First Men’s Collection Under John Galliano

MAN UP: With Paris Men’s Fashion Week set to kick off Tuesday, management at Maison Margiela has confirmed that the house on Friday will present the first men’s collection entirely created and developed under the direction of John Galliano.
The show will take place in the Salle Turenne of the Musée de l’Armée in the Hôtel des Invalides, a complex of buildings in the city’s 7th arrondissement containing museums and monuments relating to the military history of France.
Since joining the OTB-owned house in October 2014, Galliano has had no official involvement in the men’s collection, according to Riccardo Bellini, the house’s chief executive officer. It’s been a step-by-step process for the designer.
“Creating a new aesthetic language rooted in the maison’s couture spirit has always been at the core of Mr. Galliano’s creative vision for the future of the house. Rather than curating the past we have chosen to look at the future and John Galliano’s vision represents a forward-thinking view on the maison and its DNA,” he said. “This collection will offer an elevated and powerful new foundation for men’s wear, strongly positioned within the luxury arena.”
For men’s, the brand counts about 60 direct stores and around 400 multibrand and department stores worldwide.

As the uproar continues over sexual harassment in industries stretching from entertainment to media to finance, the fashion world has remained relatively on the sidelines – until now.
On Saturday, The New York Times published a long-rumored story about alleged harassment of male models by the photographers Bruce Weber and Mario Testino. Both men, via statements their lawyers gave to the Times, vigorously denied the allegations made in the story, although Conde Nast and Conde Nast International both said Saturday that they would be severing ties with the two photographers – at least for now.
The Times’ story comes several months after model Cameron Russell created an Instagram account on which anonymous individuals posted stories about their mistreatment in the industry. Last October, Terry Richardson was dropped by the leading fashion magazine publishers but only after years of allegations surrounding his behavior, while model Jason Boyce filed a lawsuit against Weber in December claiming the photographer harassed him. Weber has denied those claims, as well.

HEAR MY SONG: First film, now music. Having commissioned leading filmmakers including Gregg Araki and Sean Baker to create short films, Kenzo has tapped singer-songwriter Karen O to record an original song, and writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour to direct the accompanying film.
Titled “Yo! My Saint,” the track will be released on Jan. 12 across more than 50 streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Pandora, Deezer and Google Play Music. A companion limited-edition vinyl is to go on sale on Jan. 22 in Kenzo stores and online.
While championing female talent is nothing new for Kenzo creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the project marks the first time the label has released an original song. Exclusive: Indian Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee Is Going Global

HONG KONG — Much like the Indian weddings he often designs for, an outfit by Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a mélange of colors, intricate patterns and delight. Over the course of 16 years since he started his namesake couture label, the Kolkata native has become feted not just for his design sensibilities, but also for utilizing near forgotten arts-and-crafts traditions from around India.
On Nov. 2, Lane Crawford department store launched an exclusive collection of 29 ready-to-wear pieces from Mukherjee, a chance to get his aesthetic but in a more pared-down silhouette, accompanied by a display of 39 of his couture pieces. It is the first proper foray into East Asia for the designer, who is starting to make more noise globally.
Last month, he debuted a spikes-meets-sari collaboration of men’s and women’s shoes designed together with his friend Christian Louboutin. This most recent collaboration with Lane Crawford, however, was inspired by a visit to China Club, the members-only social establishment set up by the late David Tang.
“This is ready-to-wear with a sense of couture, all the finishings and labor-intensive [work] that couture requires, but in much simpler silhouettes,” Mukherjee told WWD, while visiting Hong Kong.

EXCLUSIVE: N.E.R.D Comeback Rumors Fueled With New Fashion Collaboration

Rumblings of N.E.R.D’s impending album release will intensify with news that the experimental rock band — which includes Pharrell Williams, Shae Haley and Chad Hugo — is to release a new fashion collaboration.
The trio — largely dormant for the last decade — has collaborated with Illesteva on limited-edition sunglasses. They have designed oversize frames in four colorways. Each pair of glasses is embedded with a USB drive that houses exclusive short films directed by Christian Padron.
The glasses will launch at ComplexCon on Nov. 4, where the trio is scheduled to give their first live performance in three years.

N.E.R.D, founded in 1999, last released an album in 2010. Williams has since gone on to achieve a successful mainstream solo career — releasing the inescapable schoolyard song, “Happy,” in 2013 as part of the film soundtrack for “Despicable Me 2.” He has also concentrated on fashion, teaming with Chanel and G-Star Raw on assorted projects.
N.E.R.D’s Illesteva collaboration and ComplexCon performance no doubt add to evidence that the group is readying a musical return. Williams has repeatedly confirmed that the group is preparing a new album, though he’s declined to reveal a release date.

EXCLUSIVE: Balenciaga’s Avenue Montaigne Store Opens Sept. 23

INDUSTRIAL CHIC: Balenciaga is to open a boutique Saturday on Avenue Montaigne, transporting the design concept of its minimalist Rue Saint-Honoré store to the tony luxury strip.
The Haussmannian space has been outfitted with industrial touches, such as warehouse conveyor rails, aluminum display tables and slick, gray flooring in resin. Flat benches with thin, khaki-colored velvet cushions contrast with the shell of an old fireplace, original molding and marks from kids who once drew on the walls.
Artwork by American street artist Mark Jenkins is scattered around the store, including the figure of a woman in an oversized, puffy jacket slumped against a smooth, white wall.
With the opening, the brand will count three stores in Paris. The new Avenue Montaigne address, to be Balenciaga’s new Paris flagship, is its second foothold in the golden triangle district, one of the French capital’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Balenciaga has shuttered its men’s store on Rue de Varenne.
The label has a handful of other locations designed under the eye of its artistic director Demna Gvasalia, including in London and on Madison Avenue in New York.

Exclusive: Haim to Perform at the Guggenheim International Gala 2017

The 2017 Guggenheim International Gala pre-party and gala are set for Nov. 15 and 16, with the pre-party kicking things off with a set by sister trio Haim.
The annual two-night affair, sponsored by Dior, marks the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation’s 80th anniversary. The pre-party, on Nov. 15, is the more casual, late-night event of the two, with the more formal gala taking place the following evening. The gala will honor artist Cai Guo-Qiang, as well as Guggenheim leader Jennifer Blei Stockman, who was president of the museum’s board of trustees president for 12 years. Dancer Daniil Simkin will perform an excerpt from his Works & Process-commissioned production “Falls the Shadow,” which features costumes by Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri.
 The gala will be co-chaired by Chiuri, Christina and Robert Baker; Valerie and Charles Diker; Wendy Fisher and Dennis Goodman; Phyllis and William Mack; Nancy and Howard Marks; Lauren Baker Pinkus and Scott Pinkus; Pilar Crespi Robert and Stephen Robert; Denise and Andrew Saul, and Sidney Toledano. The exhibit on display will be “Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World.”
