Victoria & Albert Museum Extends Sold-Out Dior Exhibition to Sept. 1

MORE, MORE, MORE DIOR: The house of Dior can certainly command a crowd, according to the Victoria & Albert museum, which plans to extend its “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition to Sept. 1. Having opened on Feb. 2, it was set to close on July 14.
The museum said the show had sold out less than three weeks after opening, and it has already welcomed 121,566 visitors. Additional tickets are on sale through the V&A’s website.
“We knew that ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’ would be popular, but we have been overwhelmed by the phenomenal visitor response to date,” said Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A.
The largest and most comprehensive British show on the House of Dior, it is a grand sweep of sparkle, rippling wool, sculpted jackets and floral prints and motifs. It throws light on the designer’s fascination with Britain, his “lines” and defining looks, his international outlook and inspirations from history.
It is also the first fashion exhibition to be staged in the vast new galleries designed by Amanda Levete, on the west side of the building. They showcase more than 500 objects, memorabilia and clothing, including an array of works by Dior and the creative directors who followed him: Yves Saint

Converse Extends Partnership With Vince Staples

Vince Staples wanted to do something different.
Although he’s known for wearing Chuck Taylors, the 25-year-old artist from Long Beach, Calif., wanted to update a lesser-known silhouette from the Converse archives: the Thunderbolt, a sneaker that pulls from the brand’s history with running sneakers, which dates back to the 1900s.
“You have the Chuck and the One Star and it was just time to work with a shoe that a lot of people aren’t designing for the brand,” said Staples. “Me being the kind of person I am, I wanted to see what I could do with another silhouette.”
Staples worked with Converse designer Brook Bergland and team on the collection. The sneaker, which comes in a cream and black colorway that Staples said originated from the demo sneaker and they decided to keep it. It retails for $ 110. He also worked on an apparel capsule that includes a varsity jacket, a sweatshirt and track pants — each covered with “Run.” The line retails from $ 350 to $ 90.
“Vince has a very distinct point of view — he sits outside of the traditional definitions one might try to apply to him,” said Jimmy Manley, senior director of special projects at Converse. “He took a

Grailed Extends Beyond Secondhand Shopping

“I see too many tweets about kids getting their phone taken away because they are using Grailed,” said Arun Gupta, a lanky 29-year-old who speaks as if he’s being timed for speed.
Gupta, who studied physics at Yale, is the chief executive officer and cofounder of Grailed, the men’s resale site that launched in 2014.
Last week, Grailed’s Twitter mentions were particularly pointed. The e-commerce site released an update to its iPhone mobile app and there were a few glitches. Users were upset about a missing “back” and “done” button, the inability to add pictures to a listing and not being able to send messages to other users.
App glitches that prevent customers from purchasing or selling product are a problem, but the mentions, which ranged from obnoxious to highly concerned, were indicative of Grailed’s connection to its user, who is typically male, between ages 17 and 35 and has a penchant for streetwear and high-end designers. The site isn’t as omnipresent as, say, Instagram, but it’s quickly become a resource and daily attraction for a demographic that most retailers and brands are trying to win over.
Grailed, which is a term used to describe a highly sought-after item — derived from holy grail
