Faith Connexion, Koché and Feng Chen Wang Reimagine Converse Archives in New Collaboration

LONDON – Converse is working with three women’s wear designers on the brand’s latest collaborative project. Koché, Feng Chen Wang and Faith Connexion have each designed a capsule collection of apparel, footwear and accessories, which will launch on April 26, WWD has learned.
“We’ve tapped their expertise with clothing and accessories to push the bounds of our product offering and showcase new capabilities in these categories,” said Darryl Jackson, apparel director of Converse. For the capsules, the designers have reimagined a classic Converse silhouette and looked to the brand’s archive for inspiration.
Koché’s seven-piece collection has been paired with the brand’s Jack Purcell low-top sneaker, ballet flats and Converse’s Mary Jane sneakers. Pieces include a polo dress with a multi-patterned skirt and a brown camo tracksuit.
Designer Christelle Kocher of Koché said she wanted to keep Converse’s sporty elements, yet inject some of Koché’s femininity into the designs. “I played with codes of sports dressing and gave them a twist. I integrated some strong elements of the Koché vocabulary as well. Some pieces are very feminine with lace for example, but other pieces are unisex and can be worn with the same energy.”
Founder Maria Buccelati from Faith Connexion focused on utility, “using our recognizable detailing

Faith Connexion RTW Fall 2019

For the brand’s first runway presentation and his first full collection as creative director, Nikola Vasari succeeded in bringing together with casual ease streetwear influences with grunge and glam references inspired by music icons such as Courtney Love, Grace Jones and Lou Reed.
The lineup was a further step in a more focused direction for the edgy label, a balance of tailoring, flou and streetwear with an edge. There was some standout outerwear — a ruched jacket in green jacquard that Vasari described as a “party bomber” was among the most striking pieces.
Animal-print motifs were key to the glam vernacular, as on a zebra-print minidress in a holographic metallic fabric or bright prints in purple, red and black on some of the later flamboyant looks, while grunge references were seen in the form of distressed knitwear or the embroidered chains that adorned several designs.
Elsewhere, a hand-painted and fur-trimmed parka was pure Faith Connexion. Other outsized outerwear pieces were paired with racy looks, as in a dress made up of strips of lace like bandages across the body.
Dominated by a largely monochrome palette, the collection offered further pops of color in the form of a green sequined shift dress or the multicolored

Alife Collaborates With the Brooklyn Museum, Faith Ringgold

Last year, Alife relaunched with an unexpected Crocs collaboration.
Alife approached Crocs before the footwear brand reentered the fashion conversation via a tie-in with Balenciaga on an imaginative, platform pair that retails for $ 850. But since then, newer streetwear brands including Pleasures and Chinatown Market have released their own co-branded Crocs.
“That’s the last thing we wanted to happen,” said Treis Hill, an Alife cofounder, when asked about these collaborations. “One thing that Alife consistently tries to ensure, which might be to our detriment, is that we aren’t trying to follow what people do. No one was thinking about Crocs until we did it, so for us let’s move on to something else and focus on a new message.”
That new message is Black History Month, and Alife has partnered with the Brooklyn Museum and Faith Ringgold, a Harlem-born artist whose work was featured in the “Soul of a Nation” exhibit at the museum. Ringgold is known for her quilts, but also practices painting, sculpting and performance art.
“Alife is centered around art and our objective is to push art and perpetuate that through our apparel, but this is the first time we’ve done something during Black History Month,” said Hill. “This was an

Faith Connexion RTW Spring 2019

Nikola Vasari is flexing his creative muscles as Faith Connexion moves into a new era – pared back, but no less streetwise. Named creative director — the collaborative label’s first — earlier this month, Vasari presented a spring collection created under his supervision inspired by an “imaginary trip to Rajasthan.”
Remember when The Beatles traveled to India and embraced yoga in the late Sixties? This was very much what the collection evoked — glammed-up military references, pretty flower-power dresses in crêpe de chine, oriental embroideries on super-wide flares, pink lurex a-go-go and fil coupé jacquard tailoring were all part of the mix. These were brought into the 21st century and the Faith Connexion vernacular with items like an outsize sleeveless jean jacket bleached with Sanskrit lettering or distressed denim designs whose holes were filled with sequins. Smart yet edgy standouts in the lineup included a gold-buttoned utilitarian skirt in navy with a detachable fishtail hem.

John McCain Tells PEOPLE How He Survived His 5 Years as a POW: ‘Faith in God, My Fellow Prisoners, and My Country’

Whether or not you agree with John McCain’s politics, there’s one thing about the 80-year-old Arizona lawmaker—who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer—that seems indisputable: the man is tough as nails.

The former Navy pilot is often described as a “war hero” in the media on account of the horrors he braved after his A-4 Skyhawk was shot down in October 1967 during a bombing run over Hanoi and taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese.

But the story of his capture and his five and a half years he spent fighting for his life and defying his captors in the notorious “Hanoi Hilton” prison camp are even more inspiring when you hear the gritty details of what McCain endured—and his account of how he managed to survive.

“The plane was gyrating violently and heading straight down, very fast, at about 500 knots,” McCain told PEOPLE during a lengthy interview in 1992 on the back porch of his home in Arizona, describing the hellish moments that elapsed after a surface-to-air missile blasted the wing off his jet.

It was his 23rd bombing mission over Hanoi and the 30-year-old lieutenant commander knew his only hope of survival was to bail out of the burning, doomed aircraft as it plummeted straight toward the ground. “When I ejected, the pressure flailed my arms back and that’s what broke my arms,” he recalled. “My knee obviously hit something on the way out and I ended up breaking my leg, too.”

His parachute opened and, as fate would have it, he drifted down into a lake in the middle of the city he’d been sent to bomb. “When they pulled me up on the bank, lots and lots of people started coming around,” he said. “They were pretty steamed, which is understandable since we’d just finished bombing the place. They bayoneted me in the foot and the crotch and were spitting at me, hollering and shouting.”

A group of soldiers finally arrived as locals were in the midst of beating him with a rifle butt, dumped him onto a stretcher, which was loaded on the back of a truck. He was eventually driven to the massive prison complex built by the French in 1945 where numerous American pilots were tortured and interrogated during the Vietnam War.

‘They got nothing out of me’

“They left me on the floor of a cell for four days, during which time I lapsed in and out of consciousness,” McCain said. “Their policy was that they wouldn’t provide any medical treatment unless you gave them military information. I would only give them my name, rank, serial number and date of birth. And so, after about four days on the floor of the cell, they got nothing out of me because I kept passing out.”

His captors eventually took him to a run-down hospital and operated on his knee, cutting most of his ligaments and cartilage, and placing his right arm in a chest cast. “The important thing they gave me was blood, ” he said. “I was in shock and they gave me transfusions, which gave me strength. But I wasn’t well-treated by the guards, who ate all my food and I slowly started getting worse.”

One afternoon, one of his interrogators appeared in his room and said, “‘The doctors tell me you aren’t getting well.’ I told him the only way I’d survive is if they put me in with some Americans,” he recalled. “That night they took me out of the hospital and put me in a cell with two other prisoners. Those two guys took care of me.”

After six months, the badly-injured flyer was able to walk with crutches—which inadvertently made life worse for him. “Letting them see I could walk was a mistake on my part,” he said. “They put me in solitary confinement for more than two years after that.”

McCain’s windowless ten-foot-by-ten-foot cell had a sheet metal roof that was transformed into a scorching oven in Hanoi’s sweltering summer heat. By mid-1968, his father was named commander of all U.S. Forces in Vietnam and his captors offered to send him home. Despite his desperation, McCain realized the gesture was purely a ploy meant to demoralize his fellow prisoners. After a bit of soul searching, he told the Vietnamese he was staying put and refused to leave the prison.

“They were astounded that I would refuse,” he said. “I’m not downplaying how difficult that decision was for me, but I did it because I thought I could survive—even though I was in pretty bad shape. But our code of conduct clearly states, ‘You do not accept parole. Sick and injured prisoners must be released first and others are to be released only by order of capture.”

Life got even more difficult after he spurned their offer. “After I refused to go home, they treated me pretty badly,” recalled McCain, who by then had begun suffering from dysentery and was being beaten every two hours in order to get him to sign confessions and make audio recording trashing America. “That was a pretty tough period. They were going after me pretty hard.”

In order to keep his sanity, McCain, like other POWs, took great risks tapping out messages to fellow prisoners on the prison walls. When caught, he paid a heavy price with additional beatings and removal to even worse prison camps. “I was put in another prison we called ‘The Plantation,’” he recalls. “And for seven or eight months I was sent to a really crummy prison outside of Hanoi for punishment that was known as ‘Skid Row.’”

‘Three things kept me going’

Despite the lack of food, recurring dysentery, his various injuries, and the uncertainty of when his next beating might occur, McCain managed to stay alive. “Three things kept me going,” he said. “Faith in God, faith in my fellow prisoners and faith in my country.

Of his five and a half years in captivity, one event that has remained forever etched in McCain’s mind, he says, occurred in December 1972 when U.S. Air Force B-52 bombers roared over Hanoi and other parts of the country, and began dropping over 20,000 tons of explosives. “That’s when we knew one of two things,” he said. “Either we weren’t going to get out of there at all, or the war was reaching its conclusion.”

When he was finally released in March 1973, McCain earned the dubious distinction of being the most injured pilot to have survived the North Vietnamese prison camps. The ordeal, he insisted, didn’t impact him the way it did so many other former POWs from the Vietnam War. By 1982, he’d begun his political career and won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Unlike some, I was fortunate that I was able to put it all behind me when I came home,” he said. “People ask me how long did it take to readjust? It took me about 45 minutes. I never had a nightmare or a flashback or anything like that. I know a lot of my friends were not so fortunate, who never fully came back from that experience. But I did.”

His physical injuries are another matter. Asked if he still suffered pain from his various broken bones, McCain, whose injuries left him unable to raise his arms above his head, just shrugged. “Probably my shoulder hurts me more than my knee does,” he said. “I’ve definitely got some arthritis from the damage that was done. But I can get around fairly well. And I can always tell when it’s going to rain.”

With that, he flashed a mischievous grin and, in what seems ironic given the climate in Washington, D.C., of late, replied: “Luckily, in my line of work, there’s not a lot of heavy lifting.”

Loss of Faith (A Gabriel De Sade Thriller)

New York homicide detective Gabriel de Sade juggles his days between the hunt for maniac killers and the continuing fight against the heavy hand of city bureaucracy. A bureaucracy that is uneasy at his heavy-handed way of dealing with suspects. But at least he has the support of his Chief, until they trade his detective’s skills with the CIA. In return for help to plug a leak in the 9th Precinct, de Sade is to travel to Italy to recover a lost package. When he refuses to be used as a pawn in their political games, the Director of the CIA drops the bombshell. Faith Ward, de Sade’s former lover, travelled to Rome to retrieve the package and disappeared. The mission has become more than the recovery of a simple package. He is to locate her before she is killed. He has no choice but to accept. Yet the mission is far more than he could possibly have imagined. His former Special Forces partner, Jonas Savage, teams up to help. As well as a mysterious and lethal Russian girl, Galina Polotsova. Formerly a Spetsnaz operative, she now works as a mysterious trouble shooter for the Eastern Orthodox Church. They travel to Rome and on to Southern Italy, to Calabria, to confront the ‘Ndrangheta, the vicious local mafia. Yet the mission swerves in an unexpected direction, to Jerusalem. And a threat to the stability of the civilized world. A unique thriller that grabs the reader’s interest from page one and never lets up.

Faith Schools and Society: Civilizing the Debate

Faith Schools and Society: Civilizing the Debate

Do faith schools have a place in a plural society? – Which types of school contribute most effectively to a plural society? This fascinating monograph seeks to answer these questions and more by exploring the fit between personal, spiritual and academic goals in contemporary educational experience and individual school cultures. Jo Cairns, a well-respected authority on faith schools, argues that educational ideology in plural societies has to find a way of recognizing and responding to the ‘predicament’ of pluralism as it is experienced by individuals and communities. This provocative and challenging book will undoubtedly stimulate debate among educationists across the world.

Faith in Reading

Faith in Reading

In the twenty-first century, mass media corporations are often seen as profit-hungry money machines. It was a different world in the early days of mass communication in America. Faith in Reading tells the remarkable story of the noncommercial religious origins of our modern media culture. In the early nineteenth century, a few visionary entrepreneurs decided the time was right to reach everyone in America through the medium of print. Though they were modern businessmen, their publishing enterprises were not commercial businesses but nonprofit societies committed to the publication of traditional religious texts. Drawing on organizational reports and archival sources, David Paul Nord shows how the managers of Bible and religious tract societies made themselves into large-scale manufacturers and distributors of print. These organizations believed it was possible to place the same printed message into the hands of every man, woman, and child in America. Employing modern printing technologies and business methods, they were remarkably successful, churning out millions of Bibles, tracts, religious books, and periodicals. They mounted massive campaigns to make books cheap and plentiful by turning them into modern, mass-produced consumer goods. Nord demonstrates how religious publishers learned to work against the flow of ordinary commerce. They believed that reading was too important to be left to the “market revolution,” so they turned the market on its head, seeking to deliver their product to everyone, regardless of ability or even desire to buy. Wedding modern technology and national organization to a traditional faith in reading, these publishing societies imagined and then invented mass media in America.

Joe Biden Speaks Candidly About Grief, Loss And Faith In Revealing Stephen Colbert Interview

In an emotional interview, Vice President Joe Biden spoke candidly on Thursday about the recent death of his son Beau, extensively discussing his grief and how it has made it difficult for him to commit to a potential presidential bid in 2016 despite growing calls for him to run.

“I don’t think any man or woman should run for president unless, number one, they know exactly why they would want to be president; and two, they can look at folks out there and say, ‘I promise you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy and my passion,'” he told comedian Stephen Colbert in an interview that will air Thursday night on CBS’ “The Late Show.”

“I’d be lying if I said that I knew I was there. I’m being completely honest,” Biden continued. “Nobody has a right in my view to seek that office unless they are willing to give it 110 percent of who they are.”

Biden has repeatedly indicated that his family is the primary factor in his decision whether or not to run and has said that he is unsure if he possesses the “emotional energy” to run.

He spoke at length about his grief on Thursday, recounting memories of Beau and frequently appearing close to tears.

“I was a hell of a success. My son was better than me. He was better than me in every way,” he said of Beau, who died in May after battling brain cancer.

The vice president also spoke about how his Catholic faith has helped him cope with Beau’s death, saying that religion gives him “enormous sense of solace.”

“I go to mass and I’m able to be just alone, even in a crowd,” he said. “It’s just a place you can go.”

He revealed that he feels “self-conscious” about the outpouring of support he received, noting that “so many people who have losses as severe or maybe worse than mine and don’t have the support I have.”

“No one owes you anything,” he said. “You gotta get up. And I feel like I was letting down Beau, letting down my parents, letting down my family if I didn’t just get up. I marvel at the ability of people who absorb hurt and just get back up.”

Colbert eventually asked Biden about the mounting rumors that he may pursue a presidential bid.

“I want to talk about the elephant in the room, which in this case is a donkey. Do you have anything to tell us about your plans?” he asked.

“I think you should run for president again, and I’ll be your vice president,” Biden quipped, referencing the time Colbert briefly was a presidential candidate in 2008.

Biden also joked about his tendency to speak out of turn as vice president when his microphone suddenly shut off at the beginning of the interview.

“By the way, they do this to me at the White House all the time — shut my mic off,” Biden said.

But most of the interview covered serious matters. Colbert, who himself has experienced immense loss, losing his father and two brothers in plane crash when he was just 10 years old, seemed to support a Biden candidacy, arguing that Biden’s experiences would give him a unique perspective.

“It’s going to be emotional for a lot of people if you don’t run,” he told Biden. “Your example of suffering and service is something that would be sorely missed in the race.”

The Substance of Things Seen: Art, Faith, and the Christian Community

The Substance of Things Seen: Art, Faith, and the Christian Community

While the average person rarely sees it, the visual arts play a subtle yet profound role in the teaching and formation of faith, both for individuals and religious communities. The Substance of Things Seen explores the intersection of art and faith, offering thoughtful reflections on the way art functions in Christian life and practice. Highly readable and featuring instructive illustrations, this book is meant to engage church leaders as well as artists in constructive conversation about the critical role that art can play in the renewal of Christian education, worship, and study. It also challenges anyone who thinks the arts are only of marginal importance to the religious life. Robin Jensen considers here a broad range of topics relevant to Christian faith and culture, including the construction of sacred space, the use of art in worship and spiritual formation, the way that visual art interprets sacred texts, and the power and danger of art from a historical and contemporary perspective.

Faith: 20 Years Strong

2015-04-01-1427888188-1379415-201503311427816099920288IMG_6568thumb.JPG

When you look up the word ‘Incomparable’ it means “unable to be compared.’ It’s also the name of the newest album from Faith Evans. The R&B singer from New Jersey has a music career spanning 20 years. Faith was the first female artist to be signed to Bad Boy Entertainment in 1994 and her first studio album ‘Faith’ was released in 1995. Faith took to the stage to perform some of her greatest hits and songs from her new album ‘Incomparable’ that was released in November. On a Sunday night in March in New York City she was the headliner during the monthly showcase of R&B Spotlight that’s held at Sounds of Brazil or what is also know as SOBs. Before Faith took the stage, super fans of hers got to hear unsigned talented artist as well J. Drew of the famous Clark Sisters & Sheard family.

If you’ve never been to a Faith Evans show it mirrors every aspect of her life. The singer has been through a great deal of heartache, pain, and exciting time. That’s why I feel it’s very fitting to say that her performances are much of the same. Faith takes the listener on an emotional, rocky, yet fun journey. Without a doubt she brought the house with her energy and her legion of fans known as #Faithfuls. Personally, I was excited to be at the show but I was even more excited that I would be getting the opportunity to spend about five minutes with Faith to interview an amazing singer whose songs I have heard playing on the radio since I was 12 years old. I can recall hearing “Soon As I Get Home” blasting from some of my other sister’s rooms as I run through the house. So the opportunity to interview her was five minutes well spent. Tunnel Vision Marketing & Consulting is the reason I was able to knock out one of my interview goals.

I met Faith for our brief five-minute chat inside of her dressing room after the show. I wanted to know how she has remained such a force in the music industry for so long, how she’s maintained herself over the years and what people can expect from her new music.

KM: Faith, thank you so much for this opportunity. You definitely brought the house down tonight? How did it feel being up there in front of all those ride-or-die Faith fans?

Faith: Oh I had so much fun, I wish that I could have done a longer set but the band that I performed with I haven’t worked with them before but I threw in two extra songs and they were able to pick it up. It was just so much fun, it’s always good to come back home because the home city is always there to support.

KM: Let’s talk about the album ‘Incomparable’ for a moment. What’s different about this one than say some of your previous albums?

Faith: Well, first this is a concept album and details a lot of things that I was going through whether it be with my family or conversationally you know post divorce and getting back into dating. The album really captures a two year period of my life It was so great to bring it all together and make a story out of it. Also to me it’s my best album so far. Now I have others coming but it’s a really good album to me. All I really wanted was for people to say it’s a good album and I have been getting that.

KM: What makes Faith Evans strong?

Faith: First and foremost my family makes me strong. My mother and my grandmother made me strong. My children make me strong and the fact that I wake up at four in the morning to go work out makes me strong. But most of all God keeps me, makes me, made me, fulfills me, you know he is why I am strong.

KM: And you look amazing, let’s just go ahead and say that too!

Faith: Thank you, thank you so much.

It’s true Faith Evans has transformed her body but her soul remains true to form. Which brings me back to the new album ‘Incomparable’ and why it is appropriately titled during this time in her life. In her life she has seen her fair share of triumphant times and pain but the journey has been hers and no one could compare to handling it the way that she has. Faith pours her soul into her music and once she hits the stage the #Faithfuls feel it too. ‘Incomparable’ is available now everywhere music is sold. Give it a listen and let Faith take you on a musical journey.

Bad Faith: When Religious Belief Undermines Modern Medicine

Bad Faith: When Religious Belief Undermines Modern Medicine

In Bad Faith, acclaimed physician and author Paul Offit gives readers a never-before-seen look into the minds of those who choose to medically martyr themselves, or their children, in the name of religion. Never afraid of controversy, Offit takes a stark and disturbing look at our surprising capacity to risk the health and safety of children in service of our beliefs. He tells the story of two devoted Christian Scientists who are shocked and heartbroken when their infant dies of a treatable disease; of orthodox Jewish parents who risk infecting their babies with herpes during an unsterile circumcision ritual; and of a man who believes his faith can cure his son’s diabetes and, when that tragically fails, tries to raise him from the dead. The tangled relationship between religion and medicine may appear to afflict only certain pockets of America, but this phenomenon reaches much further – whether you are seeking treatment at a Catholic hospital or trying to keep your kids safe from diseases spread by their unvaccinated peers, you’ll likely encounter these issues”-Provided by publisher.

Mormon Artifacts On Display In ‘Foundations Of Faith’ Exhibit

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Wednesday unveiled a new collection that features some of the faith’s most treasured artifacts, including a page from the original Book of Mormon manuscript written by founder Joseph Smith.

The “Foundations of Faith” exhibit that opens to the public this week in the church’s history library in Salt Lake City also includes 26 other books, manuscripts and documents that go back to the early days of Mormonism. The Book of Mormon is considered the religion’s most valuable manuscript, said Richard E. Turley, assistant church historian and recorder.

The exhibit, unveiled by church historians at a news conference, marks the latest example of the faith being more open and transparent about its history.

A year ago, the church began releasing books containing historical documents that shed light on how Smith formed the church in upstate New York more than 180 years ago.

The religion also recently issued a series of in-depth articles that explain or expand on some of the more sensitive parts of its history and doctrine that it once sidestepped. Articles have addressed the religion’s past ban on black men in the lay clergy and the early history of polygamy.

The exhibit contains first printed editions of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. All are keystone documents for the faith that counts 15 million members worldwide and is based in Salt Lake City. Smith’s journal from 1832 to 1834 also is in the collection.

“These four display cases comprise our most precious documents,” Steven E. Snow, church historian and recorder. “They go to the foundation of our faith. These are our spiritual roots.”

Some of the earliest records in the collection were carefully maintained as church headquarters moved from New York to Pennsylvania to Ohio to Missouri and Illinois, and finally to Utah in 1847 after a t r ek across country by early church members.

Transubstantiation, And The Real Presence Briefly Examined. To Which Is Added The Faith Held At Present By Most Romans In Ireland,

The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic — a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. “Persecuted” Gives Faith Based Films a Bad Name

Movie Review Jackie K Cooper
“Persecuted” (One Media)

This year there have been quite a number of faith based movies released. Some have been high profile like “Heaven Is For Real” and others have been low on the radar like “Alone Yet Not Alone.” Still most of them have shared a quality of talent that makes them acceptable to the movie going community. That is as it should be. Just because a movie is “faith based” does not mean it is automatically worth seeing. A “faith based” film should have to earn its audience just like every other kind of movie.

Take a movie like “Persecuted.” This just released movie has been hyped as a “faith based” film. Boasting a cast that includes Fred Dalton Thompson and Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson, this is a movie that should play successfully with those on the right of the political spectrum and with Christians in particular. Let’s hope not, since “Persecuted” is a perfectly awful movie.

The story concerns a charismatic minister named John Luther (James Remar). At the height of his success he is framed for a murder he did not commit. This is done because he did not support a one size fits all freedom of religion bill that is being sponsored by Senator Donald Harrison (Bruce Davison).

Luther goes on the run and tries to find someone to help him disprove this accusation. One of the first people he turns to is his father Charles (Thompson), who is also a pastor (or priest?). Together they make plans to cleanse John’s reputation. But while they are doing this, Harrison and his minions are searching high and low for John.

Flaw number one: While John is driving around the Washington, DC area no one can seemingly locate him. This is happening even though his picture is all over television and the newspapers. There is such a thing as hiding in plain sight but the freedom he has to travel around without being spotted is ridiculous.

Flaw number two: John Luther is supposed to be a man of enormous charisma and personality. He has created and run a huge worldwide ministry. As played by Remar he is a sulking, low key individual who couldn’t influence his dog. Remar has had roles where he had some spunk and spirit but none of that is on display in this movie.

Flaw number three: Nothing in the movie makes any sense. As the story enters its final phase it gets even more bizarre. You walk out wondering if half of the plot was just tossed during the filming.

All of those flaws are fatal and all of them destroy any entertainment value the movie might have had. The acting is atrocious. Remar is not the only one sleepwalking his way through his/her part. Thompson is wooden and Carlson is all glowing Barbie doll. So much for her big screen movie debut. And out of nowhere comes Dean Stockwell, a talented and well thought of actor who has not been on screen lately. Why did he want to return in a lame vehicle like this one!

The movie is rated PG-13 for violence.

Movies like “Persecuted” give faith based films a bad name. They mention God and Jesus in the dialogue and think that will be enough to draw a crowd. Here’s hoping it isn’t.

I scored “Persecuted” a sinful 2 out of 10.

‘A Legacy of Faith’ is a compiled writing of the last few years of Linda’s life. There is a blend in this book of her journal entries during the time of ALS, Debbie’s observations, and a caregiver’s description involved in her daily care along with others who offered support to Linda while learning to cope with ALS. Linda’s trust in God and her belief in reward in Heaven is the one thing that made any real sense to her. Bible verses continually came to mind which gave comfort. Debbie chronicled Linda’s decline in health, with compassion, trying to depict her with her sense of humor despite grave obstacles. Linda’s faith was expressed in her words, ‘I don’t look into mirrors very often these days but when I do, the reflections has changed. There is, however, one thing that remains the same, my eyes. When I look in the mirror, I see the same eyes I saw when I was a terrified little girl looking in the mirror. I see the eternal me and there is no fear, there is total peace. I know who I am, I know where I will spend eternity and so can you.’ ‘A Legacy of Faith’ is a graphic description of the ravages of ALS and recounts the life changes that affected Linda’s entire family. Yet, despite her death, the story strikes a positive chord which the reader will not soon forget.
