Meghan McCain Shares Touching Tribute to Late Father: ‘All That I Am Is Thanks to Him’

Following Sen. John McCain’s death at age 81 on Saturday after a battle with stage-four brain cancer, the late political maverick and war hero’s daughter Meghan McCain shared a touching tribute on social media.

In a message she captioned “I love you forever – my beloved father @SenJohnMcCain,” Meghan, 33, revealed that she was by her father’s side as he “departed this life today.”

“In the thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me, and supported me in all things,” she wrote. “He taught me how to live. His love and his care, ever present, always unfailing, took me from a girl to a woman — and he showed me what it is to be a man.”

When planning her wedding to Ben Domenech last fall, Meghan pushed the date forward in the wake of her father’s cancer diagnosis. Despite his tenuous health, the ailing senator was on hand for his daughter’s big day.

“All that I am is thanks to him,” she continued in her tribute. “Now that he is gone, the task of my lifetime is to live up to his example, his expectations, and his love. My father’s passing comes with sorrow and grief for me, for my mother, for my brothers, and for my sisters. He was a great fire who burned bright, and we lived in his light and warmth for so very long. We know that his flame lives on, in each of us. The days and years to come will not be the same without my dad — but they will be good days, filled with life and love, because of the example he lived for us.”

Cindy McCain, the Senator’s wife of 38 years, also mourned the loss on social media.

“My heart is broken,” tweeted Cindy, 64, minutes after her family announced his death.

“I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years,” she continued. “He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the place he loved best.”

Sen. McCain, the former POW and outspoken Republican politician nicknamed The Maverick for being unafraid to disagree with fellow members of his party, died at 4:28 p.m. on Saturday, his family announced in a statement, according to NBC News.

McCain is survived by wife Cindy, and his children: Douglas, Andrew, and Sidney (all with first wife Carol McCain) and Meghan, Jack, James, and Bridget, with Cindy.

On Friday, his family said that Sen. McCain, “with his usual strength of will,” decided to stop treatment for the stage-four brain cancer he had been battling since its diagnosis last summer.

“In the year since,” the McCain family said, “John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.”

Slain Boy’s Father Sat Front Row in Court to Face Accused Murderers: ‘I Wanted Them to Look at Me’

Benjamin Eastman headed to court on Monday with a purpose: to look straight at the people accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his 16-year-old son after luring the boy into the woods.

Eastman sat in the front row of the courtroom gallery in Chehalis, Washington, alongside a friend and his mother, local TV station KOMO reports. He “leaned in” on the railing dividing the public from the defendants so that he could not be avoided.

“I wanted them to look at me,” Eastman told KOMO of suspected killers Jonathan Adamson and Benny Marquez. “I wanted to look them in the eye.”

Adamson, 21, and Marquez, his 16-year-old brother, are both charged with first-degree rape and murder as well as tampering with physical evidence and unlawful disposal of remains in the beating death of Eastman’s son, Ben.

Of the accusations, Eastman said, “When I heard they were charging them with rape and that process, that really blew me hard.”

Still, he said, “It’s easy to get caught up in the negative aspect of this, but I remember my son and his smile.”

Ben was last seen alive on June 23 before his body was found in a “shallow grave” on June 28 on a remote parcel of land owned by Marquez’s relative, according to authorities. Ben had been reported missing a day earlier, on June 27.

According to KOMO, Eastman said he wasn’t initially concerned that he hadn’t seen his son for a few days because the boy traveled between his home, in Randle, and his mother’s home and another relative’s residence.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

According to charging documents obtained by PEOPLE, Marquez, who is being prosecuted as an adult, was a childhood friend of Ben’s. He and his brother allegedly lured Ben into the woods for a camping trip on June 24, but then knocked him to the ground and assaulted him for up to 45 minutes.

The charging documents allege that Adamson told police he and Marquez sexually assaulted Ben with a stick while Ben was still alive.

Before burying Ben along with his clothes and the shovel they used to dig his grave, the brothers beat him in the head with a rock to ensure he was dead, authorities suspect.

A motive in the attack is unclear.

Adamson and Marquez remain in custody in lieu of $ 10 million bail each, jail records show. They have not pleaded to their charges. Information about whether they retained attorneys who could comment on their behalf was not immediately available.

They are reportedly set to return to court on July 12.

Speaking to KOMO, Ben’s dad described him as a joyful, happy teenager and said the two enjoyed camping, fishing and dirt biking together. He said Ben was his best friend.

“You’d be in a bad mood and he’d just walk in — you’d just be mad as mad as you could be and he’d just crack a smile and make you giggle just over anything, always,” Ben’s brother Derek Dunaway told KOMO.

According to local station KIRO, hundreds gathered on Tuesday for a vigil at the White Pass Junior and Senior High School in Randle, where Ben was a rising junior. Principal Chris Schumaker said it was fitting the service began in the gym because Ben loved sports so much and was always in the gym.

“When you lose a brother or sister, everybody in a family closes ranks and that’s what we did our education family closed its ranks,” Schumaker reportedly said.

Ben and his family were fans of the Miami Dolphins, KIRO reports, and during the vigil relatives released aqua and orange balloons representing the team colors.

Said one attendee, Jessica Gleason, after the vigil: “Today gave me a chance to look and see and notice how many people I think are better people because of him.”

Pennsylvania Father Enjoys Skin-to-Skin Contact with Newborn Twins After Death of Toddler

After the tragic death of his 19-month-old daughter Victoria, Brennan Brackbill was more determined than ever to cherish special moments with his newborn twin sons.

Brennan and Lesa Brackbill, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, were devastated when Victoria died from Krabbe disease in March 2016. The couple had tried for nearly two years to have children and, after Victoria passed, were left “in a complete fog.”

“The whole thing was terrible,” Brennan tells PEOPLE. “We were taking care of a little girl for 19 months … It was weird because she just wasn’t there anymore. We wouldn’t be able to hold her anymore or talk to her.”

The couple was elated when they learned last September that Lesa was pregnant with twins. And Brennan tells PEOPLE he knew he wanted to have skin-to-skin contact with the babies the moment they were born, just as he did with Victoria.

“It was really important because that initial bond between baby and parent is good,” Brennan, 40, tells PEOPLE. “It was super important to us because of the experience we had with Tori. It just had to happen, and we made it happen.”

Isaiah and Caleb were born on April 24. Photos from just after the birth showed a shirtless Brennan holding the babies excitedly.

“It was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life,” the proud father says. “It was important for me to be there and have that first initial bonding time with my boys. It was a no-brainer, I’d do whatever I had to to make sure it happened.”

Brennan tells PEOPLE that life with the boys has been an “adventure” and although parenting twins has its “challenges,” the couple wouldn’t trade life with the boys for anything.

“It’s definitely a joy. We want what’s absolutely best for them,” he says. “We do what ever we can to make sure they’re comfortable and growing because, as we found out with Victoria, you never know what life’s gonna bring you.”

Brennan says that losing Victoria has helped the couple appreciate the twins in a profound way.

“We were blindsided by her disease. It was terrible,” he recalls. “When she was diagnosed, it was almost like the world came crashing down on us. She was perfectly happy for five months, then the disease took over. It was a death sentence for her.”

Krabbe disease is an incurable illness that attacks a child’s nervous system, according to the Mayo Clinic. Children with the illness usually do not live past the age of 2. Doctors told the Brackbills that Victoria wouldn’t make it to 13 months. She was nearly 20 months old when she died.

“We made a conscious decision to choose joy and to press on and to give the absolute best life we could until the day she passed away,” Brennan tells PEOPLE. “I think that’s why she lived as long as she did.”

Pennsylvania Man Allegedly Murdered Father With Butter Knife and Removed His Eye

A 30-year-old man is accused by Pennsylvania authorities of murdering his 74-year-old father with a butter knife.

A statement from Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele confirms the arrest of Preston Lonnberg-Lane of Lansdale on murder charges after officers found his father, Thomas Lane, lying “semi-conscious” in his bedroom with one eye missing.

The elderly victim also had “apparent stab wounds to his head, neck and arm,” the statement alleges.

Lonnberg-Lane allegedly called police to Lane’s home on March 27 shortly before 5 a.m.

Lansdale Police were dispatched to the home, and found Lane clinging to life “with a traumatic eye avulsion.” The statement notes Lane was flown to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he died two days later.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

“A joint homicide investigation by Montgomery County Detectives and Lansdale Police found that Lonnberg-Lane had attacked his father with a butter knife,” the statement alleges.

An autopsy revealed Lane died from a “hyperextensive brain hemorrhage” and that his death was a homicide.

There was additional evidence to suggest Lane had been strangled.

A motive has not been disclosed.

“This father was asleep in his bedroom and was savagely attacked by his son,” Steele alleged. “Now the man is dead and a son is behind bars.”

Lonnberg-Lane has yet to enter pleas to the weapons and first- and third-degree murder charges filed against him.

He is being held without bail.

Information on his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.

Lane will return to court for his arraignment on April 9.

These Are the Austin Bombing Victims: 39-Year-Old Father, a Teen Boy and His Mom and 3 Others

A string of bombings around Austin, Texas, this month killed two people and injured four more — all at the hands of the same suspect, who has since died, according to police.

Here is what we know about the victims.

The Dead

The first person killed in the Austin bombings was 39-year-old Anthony House, on March 2, according to authorities. The package that exploded at his home that day was the first in the series of blasts.

Married with an 8-year-old daughter, House was the stepson of a well-known Austin pastor. He was a project manager at Texas Quarries and, as a former high school track team member, had volunteered to mentor young athletes in his free
time.

“He was always laughing,” says friend Greg Padgitt.

Draylen Mason, 17, was killed on March 12 in one of two package explosions. The blast that took his life also seriously injured his mother. A 75-year-old Hispanic woman was hurt in the second bombing.

A “most remarkable talent” on orchestral bass, Mason was enrolled at the University of Texas next year, says College of Fine Arts Dean Doug Dempster.

“His gentle confidence seemed to come from a conviction that hard work and talent was going to work for him,” Dempster says. “It did.”

Mason and House both attended the local Wesley United Methodist Church.

The Wounded

In addition to Mason’s mother and the other woman injured on March 12, two white men, 22 and 23 years old, were injured in a fourth bombing on Sunday.

A fifth bomb went off at a local FedEx facility on Tuesday. Though no one was injured, an employee was treated for ringing in her ears.

Early Wednesday, Austin police announced the suspected bomber had killed himself in an explosion as authorities were in pursuit in order to take him into custody.

The suspect’s name has not been released and a motive has not been confirmed as the investigation continues. Police do not yet know if the suspect was working alone or with accomplices.

“For the families in our community who lost loved ones or who had loved ones seriously hurt in these incidents, our hearts remain with you as you go through your healing process and your time of sorrow,” Police Chief Chief Brian Manley said at a news conference. “We stand by you and with you in your time of need.”

Ivanka Trump Faces Groans, Boos and Tough Questions About Her Father on Official Berlin Trip

Not long after Ivanka Trump arrived in Berlin for her first international trip as part of the White House administration for President Donald Trump, she was tasked with defending her father’s attitudes towards women.

At the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the first daughter participated in the W20 Summit alongside Merkel, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and five others for a panel on women’s entrepreneurship on Tuesday. However, Trump was immediately grilled by the moderator and met by a skeptical audience.

“You’re the first daughter of the United States, and you’re also an assistant to the president,” the moderator, WirtschaftsWoche editor-in-chief Miriam Meckel, asked her first, according to Politico. “The German audience is not that familiar with the concept of a first daughter. I’d like to ask you, what is your role, and who are you representing, your father as president of the United States, the American people, or your business?”

“Certainly not the latter,” Trump replied. “I’m rather unfamiliar with this role as well … It has been a little under 100 days and it has just been a remarkable and incredible journey.”

The tough questions kept coming, with an audible groan from the audience Trump said her father was a “tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive” while praising President Trump for supporting paid leave policies.

The moderator stepped in following the room’s reaction, prompting her to ask if the president was an “empowerer of women” despite his history of lewd comments towards them.

“I know from personal experience, and I think the thousands of women who have worked with and for my father for decades when he was in the private sector are a testament to his belief and solid conviction in the potential of women and their ability to do the job as well as any man,” the mother of three responded.

“As a daughter, I can speak on a very personal level,” she added, according to Politico. “I grew up in a house where there was no barriers to what I could accomplish beyond my own perseverance and tenacity. That’s not an easy thing to do, he provided that for us.”

Trump said that her father treated her exactly the same way he treated her two brothers, Donald Jr. and Eric.

“There was no difference,” she said.

Trump’s schedule in Berlin on Tuesday also includes a visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the W-20 gala dinner.

Michael Strahan will be honored for his parenting skills at the annual Father of the Year awards in New York City in June.
On Thursday, the National Father’s Day Council said the football player-turned-media star has been named a 2017 Father of the Year honoree. He’ll be honored alongside J.C. Penney Co. Ivanka Trump Brand Little Impacted by Firestorm from Father

STUMPED ON TRUMP: While most retailers continue to stand behind Ivanka Trump’s apparel and accessories brand despite the fallout from her father Donald’s controversial remarks on immigration, it appears that at least one chain is taking a wait-and-see approach. When reached for comment about the status of the Ivanka Trump brand at its store, Lord & Taylor replied that it had “no comment” as to whether it would continue stocking her label.
Lord & Taylor is the first retailer to not express unwavering support for Ivanka following “The Donald’s” blunder, which led many retailers, brands, and personalities to dump Mr. Trump — Macy’s included. At the time, however, Macy’s Inc. was quick to state that the status of Ivanka’s line in the store would not be affected by her father’s statements.
When reached for comment, Nordstrom also expressed solidarity with Ivanka. “These are Mr. Trump’s personal views and don’t necessarily reflect how others may feel, including us here at Nordstrom. We don’t carry any of Mr. Trump’s line, and have no plans to change our business with Ivanka,” said a company spokesperson.

How the Presidency Made Me a Better Father

When you’re the President of the United States, you’re surrounded at all times — by aides, by press, by Secret Service, by crowds. It’s a bubble that’s hard to escape.

That’s what makes the people with whom you surround yourself in those rare private moments all the more important.

It just so happens that I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by women. They’re the most important people in my life. They’re the people who’ve shaped me the most. And in this job, they are my sanctuary.

People often ask me whether being President has made it more difficult to spend time with Michelle and our girls. But the surprising truth is that being in the White House has made our family life more “normal” than it’s ever been.

2015-06-21-1434913782-4775481-POTUSEssayImage1.jpg

When Malia was born, Michelle and I were fortunate enough to spend a blissful three months mostly at home with our baby girl. But then Michelle went back to work part time, and I returned to my schedule of teaching at the University of Chicago law school and serving in the state legislature. This meant that I would often be away in Springfield for three days at a time. Even when I was home in Chicago, I had papers to grade and briefs to write and evening meetings to attend.

As professionals, we were blessed with the resources for things like reliable child care and takeout when we were too exhausted to cook. Our jobs afforded us the kind of flexibility that many working families simply don’t have. Still, we each had a truckload of student debt, which meant that when we got married, we got poorer together. So we were counting every penny to manage our household bills, pay our student loans and maintain a full-time babysitter. The combined pressures sometimes put a real strain on our marriage, as they do for many working parents with young kids. After Sasha was born, Michelle was working while juggling our home life. I helped out, and I saw myself as a pretty enlightened guy. But the truth was, I helped on my terms and on my schedule, and the expectations and the burden disproportionately — and unfairly — fell on Michelle, as happens to many women.

Fortunately, we had the help of my wonderful mother-in-law, Marian, who lived just a few minutes away. Still, Michelle was understandably stressed and frustrated, and I suspect she felt a little like a single mom sometimes. Things didn’t get any easier when I was elected to the Senate and had to commute back and forth to Washington every week. Then our lives were thrown completely out of balance during a presidential campaign that kept me on the road almost constantly — leaving Michelle to carry an even heavier load for longer stretches of time.

That’s why I call her the rock of our family — because she is. She always has been.

Still, we didn’t know what to expect when I became President. We knew I might have even less time for our family. We knew that uprooting Malia and Sasha from their friends and school and community in Chicago would be challenging. So for good measure, we brought Marian with us to ease the transition and to be with them when Michelle and I couldn’t.

But to our surprise, moving to the White House was really the first time since the girls were born that we’ve been able to gather as a family almost every night. Michelle and I can go to parent-teacher conferences together. I’ve been able to make Malia’s tennis matches and Sasha’s dance recitals. Sasha let me help coach her basketball team — the Vipers. They won the title. I’ve even ex-perienced what all dads dread: watching my daughter go to her first prom. In high heels.

So it’s not always easy being a father of teenage girls. But it is pretty good to liveabove the store.

Even with our jam-packed days, Michelle and I work hard to carve out certain blocks of family time that are sacrosanct. For example, at 6:30 p.m., no matter how busy I am, I leave work to go upstairs and have dinner with my family. That’s inviolable. My staff knows that it pretty much takes a national emergency to keep me away from that dinner table. As a night owl, I’d rather stay up late reading briefings and working on speeches after everybody has gone to bed anyway.

So for an hour or so at dinner, my focus is not on my day, but on theirs. I ask Sasha and Malia the usual annoying parental questions: How was school? What are your friends up to? Have you done your homework? What are you thinking about? In return, they spend a lot of time teasing me about my big ears or stodgy suits — and Michelle is always happy to join them.

Now they’re at an age when they’re well-informed, so they often ask me questions about issues. Like a lot of young people, for instance, they’re deeply interested in the environment. Like most in their gener-ation, they take it for granted that people shouldn’t be treated differently because of their gender or race or sexual orientation or disability. They have every expectation that they and young women just like them can grow up to be anything they want to be. The highlight of my day is just listening to their thoughts about the world and seeing what smart, funny, kind young women they’ve become. That hour recharges me and gives me perspective. And those moments where I can just be Dad — even if it’s “Daaaaaaad” — well, there’s nothing better.

Michelle does her best to preserve that time, and it has made a huge difference. Like I said, she’s our rock. Whatever comes up, I know that they’ll be there for me. And I will always be there for them. These days, the girls occasionally miss a night because they’re so busy with school and activities. And like many parents of high school juniors who are excitedly touring college campuses, I’m already dreading that empty seat at the table when Malia goes off to school next fall. I can feel myself lingering at the table a little longer, trying to stave off the passage of time. But for as long as possible, I’m going to enjoy every minute of finally having us all together under one roof.

First Lady Nancy Reagan once wrote, “Nothing can prepare you for living in the White House.” She was right, of course. Nothing can prepare you. But your family can sustain you.

Nipple Confusion, Uncoordinated Pooping and Spittle: The Life of a Newborn's Father

There are the first-year milestones that everyone talks about–baby''s first smile, first steps, and first words–and then there are all the firsts that everyone conveniently forgets to mention. The first time you find yourself hanging around the baby store parking lot, waiting for the doors to open so you can make an emergency breast pump purchase. The first time you discover that girls, too, can shoot pee across the changing table when you''re least expecting it. And the first time you discover baby poop smeared on your tie moments before you need to leave for work (and it was your wife, not you, who changed the poopy diaper). It''s not surprising that firsts like this leave you feeling like you''re on your own as a new father, and that perhaps you should''ve skimmed one or two of your partner''s what-to-expect books that appeared everywhere around the house over the course of her pregnancy.

With Nipple Confusion, Uncoordinated Pooping and Spittle: The Life of a Newborn''s Father, Roger Friedman wonderfully captures all of his daughter''s firsts in an often humorous, sometimes poignant, and occasionally grown-up manner. It''s an enjoyable, honest account of the confusing, terrifying, and downright messy world of parenthood. Not only does it give you an idea of what might be in store, it lets you know you''ve got plenty of company when it comes to all of those firsts you never imagined.

How David Oyelowo Sold His Father on the Idea of Becoming an Actor | Oprah Prime | OWN

David Oyelowo, 38, stars as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the film Selma. Born in England and raised in his parents’ native Nigeria, David earned a scholarship to the distinguished London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and went on to become the first black actor to play an English king at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Still, David says his father wasn’t totally supportive when he first told him he wanted to be an actor after “sneakily applying for drama school.”

“Being an artist, being an actor for a Nigerian family, is bizarre,” he says. “This is not a proper job.” In the video above, David shares the key argument that changed his father’s mind.

What The ‘Father Of 34’ Story Is Really About

iyanla dad of 34

It is no secret that there is an epidemic of children growing up without fathers. Although we have been more than willing to blame men for their role, we are not as vocal about the role women have played in the experience unless we are judging them. The Jay Williams story about one man, 34 children, 17 women and an opportunity for self-reflective healing is taking that conversation to another level.

We have been frustrated, almost frantic, about young people killing themselves and each other, about young men failing out of what appears to me as an inadequate educational system, and about young women taking their clothes off to make money to feed the children they have with young men who fail to step up to the plate. We have been pointing our fingers at this reason or that cause while making little progress toward a real understanding of the issues or a lasting solution. On the surface, the Jay Williams story has brought to light all the sordid details about one person’s seeming irresponsibility, lack of discipline and wanton disregard for other people. At a deeper level, I recognize this as what happens when we are not taught that we are valuable, worthy, powerful and important. I now understand that the Jay Williams story is all about self-value, self-respect and self-worth gone awry because of the lack of effective and meaningful conversations and much-needed instruction at every level of society.

There are moments in time when we find ourselves in the midst of a sacred experience, a time of change, an opportunity for healing that can leave us breathless or totally confused. We have all found ourselves in a moment of time that started out pointing us in one direction and ended up with us either scratching our heads asking how we got here, or weeping with joy that we have arrived in the place in which we find ourselves. Life has a way of opening our hearts and minds to greater possibilities and at the same time pushing us into some pretty scary places that we would rather not visit or even acknowledge. All students of spiritual law know that we are always exactly where we need to be. This has been my experience with the Jay Williams story.

As this story has unfolded, I have sat in the midst of what happens when people cannot hear each other, when they do not know each other and when they allow the pain of their unhealed hearts to govern their choices. I have seen firsthand how we use each other as a balm to heal the places we don’t know how to talk about. It is much clearer to me why it is never a good thing to reach out for something to make you feel better when the core and roots of the issues are within you. I am also convinced that with all the advantages of the technological world in which we live, we have all but abandoned the need to teach people how to connect with one another in an authentic, meaningful and healthy way. We can build spaceships, yet many of us still don’t know how to create meaningful relationships that honor and respect everyone involved. We can earn college degrees online, but few of us will admit that we are inadequately equipped when it comes to telling others the truth about how we feel and what we really want from them. We can enlist and pay people to risk their lives on foreign soil to promote what we know as democracy, yet we will crawl into bed with people, lie to them in order to feel good and walk away with no recognition that we may be leaving behind the seeds of life that will explode into a generation of pain and dysfunction. The Jay Williams story has challenged me in new and exciting ways to listen more deeply and feel more compassionately. At the same time, it has taken me into the depths of human pain, despair and brokenness that has often been easily dismissed and judged as just another story of someone else’s issues and dirty laundry.

We are aware that there is something going on in the African-American community and beyond that is producing a generation of people who do not fit into the mold of the traditional American lifestyle. We don’t always know what to call it, but we will continue to mislabel it until we become willing to see it and talk about it as something more than a television program. We may not all agree about the causes of or the solutions for family dysfunction and the breakdown of cohesive communities, but we must become willing to discuss and address it without judgment. We have embraced a culture of diminishing responsibility by giving new names to traditional roles. Do the baby daddies and mamas not have the same responsibilities as fathers and mothers? Or, are they simply obligated to send checks, buy diapers and not attack the new boyfriends or girlfriends? How does it feel, and what is the impact on self-value, -worth and -esteem to be a child whose father is absent and whose mother wants to test his or her saliva to determine which of the several men she slept with must send her a check? How do we ignite and engage in a social conversation about the things that are destroying the very fibers of our ability to be healthy, productive individuals if we cannot look at the people who demonstrate the problems without calling them names (and attacking those who bring these stories to public awareness)? How do we make the distinction between exploitive entertainment and the possibilities of inner-tainment, programming that provides us with an opportunity to see ourselves publicly within the sacred confines of our own homes?

This story and all the people involved have touched my soul in a way that has no words. It has forced me to revisit places in my own life where I still have incomplete conversations and judgments of others and myself that need to be forgiven. Jay’s story was an extreme case of family dysfunction and broken relationships; however, the issues it has brought to light are familiar and common to many. My prayer is that the fifth and sixth installments of this story will take us beyond social media into our hearts and souls, where we can begin to face a deeper level of truth about what Jay Williams represents in all of us. My hope is that the children who sit in the same place that Jay’s children sit will give themselves permission to weep through the sorrow of it all and then tell their parents how they really feel about being the fruits of the healing they have not been willing to do. If this story is actually what I believe it to be, a wake-up call from the universe, men will stop making excuses, women will stop being angry, and people will start talking and healing the things that really matter: relationships, families and our collective investment in the future of this world. People may not agree about why I do what I do the way I do it. They may continue to question my motives, intentions and the size of my paycheck. That will not make this story or the issues it has placed on the table of public conversation go away. One man, one story, has opened the floodgates of healing, growth and a new reality. We simply must do better.

Charmaine, the mother of three of Jay’s sons, says she didn’t want to be alone, a sentiment echoed by Chantau and Ayanna. If she was alone, Ayanna says, she would begin to think about her past. What abandonment caused Ayanna such pain? Watch the above video to find out.
