Fendi Couture Fall 2018

Add another distinction to Karl Lagerfeld’s superhuman résumé: fashion’s only two-timing couturier. With the Fendi collection he and Silvia Venturini Fendi showed on Wednesday, the house has officially shifted from haute fourrure to haute couture — and it’s more than a name change.
“This tradition of fur allows us to do couture: clothes made with fur, but also with other materials,” said the brand’s chief executive officer Serge Brunschwig, before the show. “We thought it was more coherent to call it couture, because that is the service we are going to offer. A lot of our clients are attending the show and a dinner afterward. Then we will be holding appointments for three days at the Hôtel de La Salle.”

Rimowa Unveils Second Installment of Fendi Collaboration

TAKE TWO: Rimowa has unveiled the second installment of its collaboration with Fendi.
The sleek aluminum cabin trolley, launched last November, will go on sale this month in two new colors, blue and red. The earlier black-and-yellow version was featured in Fendi’s travel-themed men’s ready-to-wear show in January.
Like its predecessor, the case displays the double F logo with a brushed effect, which changes depending on the light, as well as Cuoio Romano leather handles on the top and side, and a web belt that runs across the case. A new leather Airbag charm, shaped like a paper airplane, has Fendi’s signature Bag Bugs eyes.

The novelty is that the cases will be among the first to feature Rimowa’s new visual identity, unveiled earlier this year to coincide with the brand’s 120th anniversary. Personalization options include stickers and a customizable leather name tag that snaps onto the external belt.
Fendi, which like Rimowa belongs to French conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, was the first brand to collaborate with the German luggage maker following the arrival of luxury scion Alexandre Arnault as chief executive officer.
Rimowa has also made limited-edition suitcases with Supreme, Off-White and graphic design duo M/M Paris.

The modern woman’s combination of strength and delicacy served as the main inspiration for this beautiful Fendi resort collection. In keeping with the brand’s latest fall runway show, creative director Karl Lagerfeld continued to define a special wardrobe where sartorial shapes and precise silhouettes were softened by handkerchief embroideries and exquisite, precious details.
Impeccable double-breasted jackets were cinched at the waist with sporty backpack-like closures and matched with cigarette pants showing attached pleated skirts. The latter were also shown in asymmetric kilt-inspired versions, as well in polished midi options, including a linen and silk style featuring the FF logo pattern in a fresh combination of aqua green and white. The look was finished with a matching bomber, an iconic item in a quintessential Fendi wardrobe, which also requires a touch of fur. To wit, the luxurious offering of fur pieces was centered on featherweight styles, spanning from a reversible fox fur vest embellished with a delicate eyelet collar to a shaved mink coat with floral appliqués in sorbet tones.

Fendi Pre-Fall 2018

Fendi is in the mood for love.
For pre-fall, the Roman fashion house embraced a pop romanticism that translated into a collection combining Fendi’s renowned craftsmanship with a modern, joyful elegance.
The heart was the symbol of the lineup. Mink fur hearts decorated a sumptuous yet ironic hand-cut leather cape which was layered over a dark indigo denim skirt and a T-shirt embellished with an archival logo.
Hearts also appeared as the multicolor intarsia of a boat neck mink fur coat, while they were mixed with graphic flowers in the lace pattern inspired by Western African Dutch Wax prints on a plissé slipdress.
Putting the focus on the shoulders, suits with a slightly Seventies feel featured double-breasted jackets with wide lapels while a checkered cotton dress revealed an eyelet insert, giving the illusion of an off-the-shoulder silhouette with a sweetheart neckline.
Everything in the collection exuded a sense of exclusivity, from the street-luxury fur bombers showing a squared version of the FF logo and the playful mink fur coat featuring intarsia heart-shaped padlocks to the elegant velvet frocks enriched with crystal embroideries and bows.

Fendi, Rimowa Team on Suitcase

MILAN — Fendi has teamed with Rimowa to create a suitcase that blends the expertise of the companies, both under the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton umbrella.
The sleek aluminum multiwheel suitcase includes luxurious Fendi details such as the Cuoio Romano leather. Available as a cabin case, it features the double F logo with a brushed effect, which changes depending on the light. Fendi’s touch is also seen in the black Cuoio Romano leather handles on the top and side, along with the web belt that runs across the case in tones of yellow and a touch of black with the FF logo. A modern Neoprene black lining with a black-on-black embossed FF logo characterizes the interior of the case. The Flex-Divider system is individually adjustable, making the item exceptionally functional. Fendi and Coach Get Real, Grittier With Millennials in Asia

HONG KONG — Millennials are growing tired of the luxury of yore and just want to “be real” — that was the message Fendi and Coach sent out this week in Hong Kong as the two fashion houses hosted parties targeted at a younger generation.
On Thursday, Fendi took out the basement of Cosco Tower in Sheung Wan, lighting the space up in a rainbow of neon lights. There was no Champagne here, just strong vodka mixers as a “no-holds-barred” attitude permeated the party. It was the second stop after New York for the “F Is for Fendi” initiative — the dedicated online platform for Millennials the Italian house launched in February — and the event saw a cast of pan-Asian cool kids come out to party: Korean pop star Taeyang, rapper Okasian, music producer Choice 37, Shanghai-based DJ Victor Aime and Japanese designer Alisa Ueno.

The idea of authenticity came up several times in conversation during the night.
“What we try to tell our artists is don’t worry about what other people think or what you think is popular,” Choice 37 said. “Try to find who you are and your identity first.”

Fendi Couture Fall 2017

As the curtains parted at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, revealing a set of screens hand-painted with trees, the strains of Claude Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” filled the air. You half expected Vaslav Nijinsky to come bounding out of the wings.
The Russian ballet dancer has been closely associated with the premises since he premiered another of his revolutionary choreographies, “The Rite of Spring,” at the venue in 1913 — famously causing a riot among spectators.
The show notes for Fendi’s fall “haute fourrure” show on Wednesday night did not namecheck Nijinsky, or the painter Léon Bakst, who designed sets and costumes for the Ballets Russes — but their influence was apparent in the collection’s painterly effects and exuberant celebration of nature.
After all, it was Bakst who once exhorted his fiancée to “dress up like a flower.” Karl Lagerfeld brought that image to life with skirts shaped like petals, cocoonlike capes and outfits bedecked in a garden’s worth of colorful blooms.

Carla Fendi Dies in Rome

MILAN — Carla Fendi passed away in Rome on Monday evening, aged 80.
She was honorary president of the Fendi company, which late Monday evening issued a release emphasizing how Carla Fendi “never stopped to actively contribute with unchanged passion to the success of the company that continued to be a reason to live; from the first international recognitions obtained with the help of the four sisters until her last days. She was for all of us a source of inspiration and an example of dedication, work culture and sensibility for beauty. She will accompany us forever.”
Fendi  joined the company in the Fifties and with her sisters Anna, Paola, Franca and Aida, helped develop and expand the family-owned venture, mainly in charge of marketing and communication and championing its expansion in the U.S. She forged a strong relationship with Karl Lagerfeld, who last year marked his 50th anniversary as creative director of Fendi.
LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Prada Group acquired 51 percent of the Rome-based leather goods and fashion house in 1999. LVMH bought Prada’s stake in November 2001, and today controls the company, helmed by chairman and chief executive officer Pietro Beccari.

Fendi Resort 2018

Fendi prefers ongoing narratives to short stories and long relationships rather than fleeting love affairs. This approach is demonstrated not only in the 52-year collaboration between the house and its creative director Karl Lagerfeld, but also in the label’s design approach.
Instead of constantly seeking for new, extravagant seasonal themes, lineup after lineup, Fendi prefers to build a solid fil rouge through its collections.
Lagerfeld picked up the sartorial mood of his fall collection and brought it back for resort in a charming new version. The men’s tailoring seen in the house’s fall runway show was refreshed and elaborated here through a flamboyant, pop attitude. A magnified chevron pattern was splashed on a feminine fluid silk dress softened by a plissé detail and maxi checks appeared on a printed wool coat with coordinated pants. These pieces were all worked in bold fuchsia tones – ‘wow’ effect guaranteed.
Neon touches also peppered the most feminine part of the collection, with orange flowers embroidered on the cream and blue botanical jacquard crafted into a flounce skirt and a bomber, revealing the graphic Fendi Roma logo on the ribbed knitted cuff.
