Moods of Norway Files for Bankruptcy

Moods of Norway, the brightly colored European fashion brand, has filed for bankruptcy.
“It’s incomprehensibly sad that the adventure is now over,” Moods of Norway founder Simen Staalnacke told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) after he revealed the bankruptcy filing to employees. “We have really tried to make this work. I feel like words aren’t enough in such an extreme situation.”
The brand, which started in men’s wear but moved into women’s, hasn’t done well in the past few years; earlier this week its lead bank, Sparebanken Sogn og Fjordane, stopped further credit, and Moods of Norway hasn’t been able to raise new capital. Last year Varner, a Norwegian apparel chain, bought 25 percent of the company, but that infusion of cash couldn’t turn things around.
For the past few years, Moods of Norway, which was started in 2002, has been in expansion mode, which ultimately led to its profitability challenges.
In 2012, the company hired George Santacroce, an industry veteran whose prior stints included Bergdorf Goodman and Aquascutum of London, to build up the U.S. business. Shortly after that, it tapped Keanan Duffty as a design consultant. At its height Moods of Norway operated 15 stores worldwide. For now, the stores are still open.

Pogue's Basics: The secret keystroke that shows the Mac's invisible filesOn the Mac, it’s sometimes helpful to be able to see all the invisible files that teem on your drive, especially if you’re a pretty competent techie. But how can you make them appear? If you’ve ever heard someone tell you, the procedure probably involved typing some arcane Terminal command, or downloading a shareware program.

In The Birthday Boy’s Present, a sub’s birthday suprise for his dom backfires, with serious consequences. In Their Perfect Anniversary, a happy pair of lifestylers plan out their anniversary celebrations to the last detail. the last detail but one, that is. Warning: This adults-only bundle contains a combined 13,800 words, and contains a large amount of content that some people may find offensive. Excerpt (from Figging His Sub’s Butt): Mickey knocked on the door. Timid. Self conscious. Not wanting to offend. “Hello? Hi? Anyone in?” Dan had buzzed him through the street door without a word. Now he spoke, projecting power and authority. “It’s open. Lock it behind you.” He heard Mickey enter. He heard Mickey take his coat off, his shoes. He heard the door close and lock. He gulped. Could he really do this? He felt his heart thumping, and his cock starting to stir in his pants. He leaned back in his armchair, throwing his limbs proprietorially over it. “Hi!” bubbled Mickey. “I, uh, I got your text, and I rushed over here just as soon as I could.” “Good”, said Dan. “That’s what I want.” “Um,” said Mickey, “so you have made a decision, right?” “Yes.” “What is it?” said Mickey. Dan yawned and inspected his fingernails. “Well, I’ve made several decisions, as it happens.” He looked at Mickey out of the corner of his eye. “Number one. You are wearing too many clothes. Off with them. Now.” Mickey bobbed up on his toes a few times, and then began to obey. Shedding the trappings of a respectable, corporate, branded existence. Revealing his body for Dan’s pleasure. He eyefucked Mickey at every stage. Letting him know in actions as well as words how he was feeling. Dan

Run-DMC Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Amazon and Wal-Mart for Trademark Infringement

Attorneys for the Run-D.M.C. brand have filed a $ 50 million lawsuit against Amazon Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Co., Jet.com and a few other outlets for trademark infringement and trademark dilution, among other things.
First reported by TMZ Thursday, the legal filing was made in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The complaint, which includes numerous images of Run-D.M.C.-inspired products as they appeared on Amazon’s and Wal-Mart’s respective sites, alleges that the retailers are advertising, selling, manufacturing, promoting and distributing multiple Run-D.M.C. styled products. Eyewear, hats, T-shirts, wallets and patches are among the items referenced, some of which are said to use the Run-D.M.C. trademark. The complaint charges that the products being sold “confuse the public and suggest that Run-D.M.C. endorses the products.”
Homegrown in Hollis, Queens by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels and Jason Mizell, Run-D.M.C. helped define hip hop culture in the Eighties. Mizell, better known as “Jam Master Jay,” was shot and killed in his recording studio in Queens in 2002. Simmons, whose brother is the serial entrepreneur Russell, is widely recognized as “Reverend Run.”
Run-D.M.C. has a registered trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The lawsuit claims that the Run-D.M.C. brand has produced revenue in excess

Perrin Paris Files Lawsuit Against Philipp Plein

IN THE CLUTCH: Leather-goods maker Perrin Paris has filed a lawsuit against luxury sportswear firm Philipp Plein, requesting an injunction and significant damages for infringing its so-called “glove-clutch,” a design-patented model that the French firm describes as a marriage between its glove-making heritage and modern chic. The suit is pending at a court in Hamburg, Germany, Perrin Paris said.
Perrin Paris alleges that the Lugano, Switzerland-based firm known for its bejeweled leather and crystal-studded knits copied its Eiffel model glove-clutch. “It’s the exact duplicate, same size, same design, same concept — the hand receiving portion of our bags that we design-patented. They only added a skull,” said Michel Perrin, whose great-great grandmother founded the company in Saint-Junien with gloves as its core business.
Julie Macklowe carried the Philipp Plein clutch on the red carpet at the Met Gala in May.
“In the beginning, we contacted Philipp Plein out of court asking him to stop selling it. We were given the impression that they would remove it from distribution. But recently, we realized that they were continuing to sell them in their outlet stores, at a discounted price,” Perrin explained.
Before the defense was due in court, he said, the German firm contacted Perrin Paris asking for a settlement offer, which

The Fashionista Files

The Fashionista Files

A fashionista is a girl who always looks current and cutting edge, even when her clothes are vintage 1975. A fashionista can tell her Pucci from her Gucci and her Blahniks from her Choos, but she’s as comfortable in Kmart as she is in Chanel. She wears what she likes and always looks fantastic. She’s a clothing chameleon: a sharp tweed suit and ladylike driving gloves one moment, a punk rock T-shirt and studded belt the next. She’s a gypsy, a princess, and a diva. She’s fashion-forward, shopping-addicted, and full of fun. And you can be her, no matter your size, style, or budget. Authors Melissa de la Cruz and Karen Robinovitz are fashionistas who share a love for impractical shoes, small dogs that fit in designer handbags, and wearing white after Labor Day. They eat, sleep, and breathe fashion. And they’ll teach you how to Make a whole new wardrobe out of the awful duds that lurk in the back of your closet Use the words “postmodern” and “ironic” to fake your way through pseudo-intellectual cocktail conversation (really-it’s easy, and so postmodern and ironic!) Podcast Review: Kumail Nanjiani’s The X-Files Files

Deconstructing episodes of TV’s The X-Files, cancelled over a decade ago, just got very meta with Episode 9 of Kumail Nanjiani’s The X-Files Files new series, because he brought in the first series alumnus.

2014-08-02-xfiles.jpgFellow comedian and actor Dean Haglund, most famous for playing long-haired, bespectacled Langley, a member of The X-Files conspiracy theorist trio The Lone Gunmen, sat in with Nanjiani for this episode. The reason being that they discussing/dissecting E.B.E., the first season episode featuring the debut of the Gunmen.

Nanjiani’s fanboy excitement is palpable at times as Haglund spins out tales from behind the scenes of the episode. And there are a few Easter eggs revealed that fans of the show never knew to look for before. Such as the style of Langley’s black hornrimmed glasses varied in the first few episodes because the prop master pulled them at random out of a bag of eyeglasses each time. And that the band The Ramones were such big fans of the show that they would time their appearances on stage during nights the show was on so they would be done in time to catch every episode.

This podcast is so focused on the subject matter of The X-Files that the two guys don’t even mention the fact that Haglund has been co-hosting his own podcast, the Chillpak Hollywood Hour, for over seven years. Maybe Dean should have Kumail on his show sometime to deconstruct HBO’s Silicon Valley.
