Charles Tyrwhitt’s New CEO Looks to Replicate U.S. Success Globally

Charles Tyrwhitt was founded in the U.K. in 1986, but the U.S. is actually the brand’s largest market. So it makes sense that the executive who had been overseeing the American market would be charged with running the entire company as it works to expand its reach globally.
Luke Kingsnorth, who had served as president of North America, has been overseeing the division during a run of double-digit growth and the addition of eight retail stores. He was named to the top post in April after Michael Stanier resigned.
In July, Kingsnorth will move back across the pond, taking the success he achieved here and applying it to the corporation as a whole.
He will lean on his omnichannel expertise to expand the company’s e-commerce reach while continuing to exploit casualwear, add made-to-measure suits, offer a revamped trouser assortment with a new, more-modern fit, and develop a range of casual shirts with shorter tails so they can be worn untucked.
Additionally, Kingsnorth said the business is “exploring wholesaling in some core territories.”
Kingsnorth has been with Charles Tyrwhitt since 2010 when he left John Lewis Direct to join the company as e-commerce director. Two years later, he added marketing duties to his role before moving

Stone Island Continues to Grow Globally

MILAN — Stone Island’s golden moment is not expected to end anytime soon.
In 2018, the company, which registered a 30 percent gain in revenues to 192 million euros compared with the previous year, has also seen its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rise 51 percent to 57 million euros.
The brand’s online business also grew 35 percent with Germany, the United States and Canada, accounting for the lion’s share of the brand’s e-commerce sales.
“I think the factors determining our growth are many,” said Stone Island president Carlo Rivetti, during an interview at the brand’s new Milanese flagship. “What I can say is that we didn’t do anything special, the market actually came toward us. Probably, we have products which are considered in line with the times and the requests of the market.”
Perhaps so, but even if Stone Island might have taken advantage of a market trend, the company is actually making important investments to support its constant growth. In particular, Rivetti said the company acquired 75 percent of its knitwear manufacturer Officina della Maglia. This strategic move will enable the brand to boost its knitwear segment, which already accounts for 15 percent of the company’s total business.

Adidas Opens Largest Originals Store Globally in Chicago With Focus on Local Community

Thursday’s opening of the Adidas Originals flagship in Chicago will be the largest in the world, and the seventh one in the U.S.
With nearly 5,000 square feet of shoppable space, the 10,000-square-foot store at 1532 North Milwaukee Avenue is taking a hyper-local approach. In the never-ending chase to bridge the online community with the in-store experience, the company is playing up the city’s heritage through design accents. A fitting room reflects the materials and route of the L train, with walls wrapped with ribbed brush steel reminiscent of the elevated line’s cars. There is also a bench that is modeled after the ones found in all CTA stations.
The city’s transit system was also the inspiration for custom signs displayed throughout the store, which are similar to the ones displayed on the L train line and in its stations. The Adidas versions direct shoppers to silhouettes from the brand’s past, highlighting the year each model made its debut and other information. Wednesday night’s opening party, featured performances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Knox Fortune and DJ ELZ. The site is near two other streetwear and sneaker stores, RSVP Gallery and Saint Alfred.
A Community Wall will highlight local events, concerts and releases
