Title of Work Goes Brick-and-Mortar

Title of Work caught the retail bug when it was awarded one of the CFDA’s Retail Lab spots at Cadillac House for three months earlier this year. And now, the men’s accessories brand has opened its first official store on New York’s Lower East Side.
The 450-square-foot store is located at 57 Orchard Street and is on the ground level of the brand’s office and showroom space. Its grand opening event will be Oct. 16.
Jonathan Meizler, Title of Work founder, described the space as “transparent retail,” where customers will be able to watch the brand’s neckwear and jewelry being made within the space. The retail component is designed to be reminiscent of an art gallery with black floors that extend 3 feet up white walls, and a 15-foot wood plank in the center to showcase the objects. A two-way mirror at the back provides a trompe l’oeil effect to the atelier in the rear.
“Historically, the Lower East Side was the garment manufacturing capital in the 19th century, and many residents of the neighborhood, particularly on Orchard Street, worked in their homes constructing garments by hand,” Meizler said. “The opening of our flagship and atelier is a nod to the rich history of handmade craftsmanship

London Fashion Week Goes Fur-Free

LONDON — London designers have rejected real fur, and no one will be using it on the London Fashion Week catwalks for the spring 2019 season.
The British Fashion Council said Friday that no one plans to show fur in their collections, according to its recent survey of all on-schedule designers.
The news comes on the heels of Burberry’s decision to eliminate fur from its collections, with the exception of shearling, and follows similar policies by brands including Gucci, Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors.
The BFC’s survey on fur was part of the organization’s Positive Fashion initiative, which aims to educate designers to make ethical choices and reduce waste in their supply chain.
The BFC itself has not banned fur, and said that while it advises designers to operate in sustainable ways, it cannot interfere with their creative processes.
In the last year, anti-fur activists have been making their presence felt outside BFC venues, demanding that the organization impose a total fur ban on catwalk and presentation designers.
“The BFC supports the creativity of designers and keeps an open dialogue with the industry, from designers to media, retailers, business leaders, government and global brands while encouraging designers to make ethical choices when it comes to their selection

See the ladies of the O.C. without their signature mile-long lashes and professional hair and makeup in these barefaced photos below, and read on to find out what makes them feel the most confident and beautiful.

Watch PEOPLE Now every day for more makeup-free Housewives and don’t miss the cover reveal of PEOPLE’s Beautiful Issue on April 18th.

Vicki Gunvalson

When do you feel most beautiful?
After I get home from work, all my makeup is off and I finish with a nice relaxing bath.

If you were only going to wear one beauty product, what would it be?
Eyelashes or mascara.

Are there features you’re self-conscious about and if so, how have you helped yourself feel more confident about them?
As I get older, my neck really bothers me. There is nothing I can do but “own” my wrinkles and my age.

As you’ve gotten older, how has your beauty routine changed?
I pay much more attention to sunscreens and my new favorite thing is rose oil.

Tamra Judge

What physical feature have you always loved to play up?
My butt and my cheek bones.

Are there features you’re self-conscious about and if so, how have you helped yourself feel more confident about them?
My wide forehead. Creative hairstyles have helped as well as a bangs.

As you’ve gotten older, how has your beauty routine changed?
I don’t go in the sun anymore. And I find that less makeup is better.

Kelly Dodd

When do you feel most beautiful?
Everyday, when I eat healthy and exercise.

Are there features you’re self-conscious about and if so, how have you helped yourself feel more confident about them?
I get a lot of compliments on my legs, but I worry I may lose my firm butt because it wants to sag, so I literally work my booty off to stay toned.

As you’ve gotten older, how has your beauty routine changed?
When I was younger I use to just wash my face and call it a night. Now I wash, tone, brighten, retin A, moisturize. I believe beauty starts from the inside out, so I am more mindful now about nutrition, exercise and getting enough sleep.

If you were only going to wear one beauty product, what would it be?
Sunscreen to prevent wrinkles.

Dior Homme Goes to Work on Denim

Dior Homme‘s Kris Van Assche has an affinity for denim. That much is obvious simply by looking at his expanded 28-item denim line for spring 2018. Details include the silver-embossed on black leather Dior logo, which was repositioned from the inside of garments to become a form of embellishment on the outside, and embroidered roses as patches on jacket shoulders with the word “Roses” inscribed below.
The brand on Monday unveiled a pop-up shop, which will showcase through Feb. 18 the collection at Patron of the New in Manhattan’s TriBeCa. That will be followed on Feb. 15 by an in-store shop at 424 Fairfax in Los Angeles, scheduled to operate through Feb. 25.
If the collection seems compact, the attention lavished upon it suggests that denim could become a permanent category for Dior Homme. There’s also the fact that the collection is being showcased in pop-up shops in seven international cities, an indication that this is no fly-by-night project. Besides Printemps Haussmann in Paris, where Dior Denim is available through March 15, pop-ups are set to bow in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo.
“Dior Homme is continuously evolving,” said Renaud De Lesquen, president and chief executive officer North America at Christian Dior Couture and

Patrick DiLascia Goes Elevated With New Namesake Line

Patrick DiLascia is injecting casual luxury into his latest line, Patrick.
The men’s retailer and designer, who appeared on Marcus Lemonis’ CNBC show “The Profit” with his label DiLascia, is now going after the higher end.
DiLascia, who has long been known for his Southern California lifestyle T-shirts with cheeky sayings such as “Extra” and “Pool Boy,” is now veering toward a full-fledged lifestyle brand with the build-out of a collection that is more than T-shirts, in addition to kids and the infusion of complementary brands into his retail business.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to have a collection rather than just T-shirts so we’re looking at doing higher price points and better fabrics, and it’s not going to be distributed as heavily as DiLascia has been,” the designer said. “When I met with some of my higher-end retailers we were discussing where the market was going. The top retailers in the high end are going to stay. Those lower-end retailers, like H&M and Topshop, are going to stay, and that middle’s going to basically be gone. So DiLascia kind of falls in the middle and I needed to decide where I wanted to go: up or down. And, obviously, I

‘I’m Obsessed with Him’: Nicki Minaj Goes on ‘Aunty’ Duties Backstage with DJ Khaled’s Son Asahd

Major key alert: Nicki Minaj and DJ Khaled‘s 9-month-0ld son Asahd spent some quality time together Friday night.

The tiny tot has been knocking back milestone after milestone in his short life so far — turning heads on red carpets, stealing the spotlight at award showshanging with A-list stars, flying on private jets, running up the talk show circuit, producing music, and gracing magazine and album covers along the way.

And now, he can check “delivering platinum plaques” off his list.

Asahd swung by to see Minaj on Friday night to deliver her a framed record symbolizing the success of “Do You Mind,” the hit Khaled track she guests on. And while there, he couldn’t help but pose with Minaj for some sweet snaps.

Of course, Minaj was thrilled to see her favorite (non-blood related) nephew. “Look @ aunty’s big boy!!!!!” the 34-year-old “Anaconda” rapper gushed on Instagram, captioning a shot of them together on her couch. “This little angel came bearing gifts. PLATINUM PLAQUE ALERT!!!!! #DoYouMind Thank You for all your hard work Asahd!!!!! @asahdkhaled @djkhaled love you!!!!!”

She also made a video with Asahd using a bunny filter and voice changed, thanking the sweet boy for giving her the gift as he sat on her lap.

“This made my night,” Minaj wrote in the caption. “I’m so obsessed with him. Cuteness overload, I can’t take it!!!”

Of course, followers of Minaj know this isn’t the first time the star has praised Asahd on social media. She was one of the first stars to meet Khaled’s son, just weeks after his birth.

“My son ASAHD KHALED !! Wit @nickiminaj !!!!!” Khaled, 41, wrote on Instagram after sharing a photo of the two. “ICONS HANG WIT ICONS ! ICON ALERT!”

Want all the latest pregnancy and birth announcements, plus celebrity mom blogs? Click here to get those and more in the PEOPLE Babies newsletter.

Minaj also talked about how much she loved seeing Ashad on Twitter, writing “I told Khaled whenever I see this lil King/CEO on my timeline I light up. He just makes me so happy yo. I wanna eat his cute face & chin!”

The love appears to be mutual, as Ashad (or rather, one of Ashad’s parents) shared a photo on Minaj on his Instagram account Friday night. “Had to stop by the studio to give @nickiminaj some beats and this platinum plaque of daddy’s @djkhaled,” Ashad “wrote.” “I’m having a busy Friday night.”

Khalad and his longtime partner, Nicole Tuck, welcomed their son in October 2016. He documented the entire process on his favorite app, Snapchat.

One month into being a father, Khaled told PEOPLE he was finding parenthood easy so far. “There’s nothing hard about it. Every moment I get a chance to be with my son is such an amazing moment,” he said. “This is something that you’re supposed to be grateful for and embrace.”

“He’s just like me. He has great energy,” Khaled continued. “He’s got the glow of a young mogul — the glow of a young icon. He’s amazing.”

Fatherhood has proved to be the “biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life,” Khaled said. “My son is so much joy. He brings me so much joy, and it’s a feeling that I can’t explain.”

Photo Of Gal Gadot’s Husband Wearing ‘Wonderful’ Shirt Goes Viral

A post shared by Gal Gadot (@gal_gadot) on

Yaron Versano has a pretty super wife.

Gal Gadot told Glamour she met her businessman husband at a “very strange party in the Israeli desert.”

“It was all about yoga, chakras, and eating healthy — we didn’t exactly find ourselves there, but we found each other,” she said.

The couple was married in 2008 and now have two young kids. Gadot gave birth to their second child this year.

A post shared by Gal Gadot (@gal_gadot) on

The actress credits her husband with helping her stick to her goals of pursuing acting, and her perseverance obviously paid off. Gadot recently led “Wonder Woman” to thus far around $ 500 million worldwide, breathing new life into the DCEU.

You don’t need to tell her husband how great she is. Versano already knows, and he has the T-shirt to prove it.

In a new photo that’s going viral, Versano stands behind Gadot wearing a pretty “wonderful” shirt in honor of his Wonder Woman wife.

The photo received more than 1.2 million views in just its first 12 hours of being uploaded to Imgur, which makes sense. The image is so cute that the only explanation for it existing is that it was molded out of clay and brought to life by Zeus.

As BuzzFeed noted, the shirt is also on Amazon, for all the other husbands who have super wives (which is, you know, all the husbands).

But this shirt was clearly meant for one dude to wear, and it’ll hit you right in the feels.

Mario Testino Goes Larger Than Life in Berlin

MARIO MAKES IT BIG: Mario Testino’s “Undressed” is the Helmut Newton Foundation’s largest-scale show to date. In this exhibit of 50 published and private photographs of men and women often wearing nothing more than their tattoos, Testino blew up his images to completely fill the walls in three halls of Berlin’s graciously proportioned Museum of Photography.
Looming over 10 feet from the ceiling to the walls’ lower wood moldings, and spanning sometimes 23 feet in width, this site-specific installation conceived exclusively for the Helmut Newton Foundation offers a spectacular yet also intimate view. The viewer is almost compelled to immerse his or herself in the images, turning from “a voyeur into a participant. Bella Hadid Goes Nearly Naked On The Cannes Red Carpet

Bella Hadid sure knows how work the sheer look.

All eyes were on the 20-year-old model at amfAR’s 24th Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Cap d’Antibes Thursday during the Cannes Film Festival. She stunned in a completely sheer, embellished custom couture gown by Ralph & Russo (that she reportedly helped design).

(Story continues after the photos.)

We dress confident, empowered women,” designer Michael Russo told People magazine.

The dress took “days” to make, according to an Instagram post by Ralph & Russo. Thirty seamstresses used 13 different materials to embroider the gown. And the final product was seriously something.

Leonardo DiCaprio Goes Incognito as He Supports Friend Sean Penn at Haiti Benefit

Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted at a benefit for Haiti Takes Root — a 10-year long initiative dedicated to the reforestation and development of Haiti — alongside Sean Penn, who co-hosted the event at Sotheby’s New York on Friday.

Penn, 56, is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of J/P Haitian Relief Organization, the non-profit that put on the event, as well as ambassador-at-large for Haiti. The Revenant star has turned up to support Penn’s efforts for Haiti before, and he attended Penn’s Haiti Rising Gala in January, one day before the Golden Globes, which also brought out Diane Kruger and Nick Jonas.

In other activist efforts, DiCaprio, 42, met with indigenous leaders and was spotted participating in the Climate March last weekend in Washington D.C.

In a CNN video, DiCaprio stayed discreet in a cap and sunglasses, but his messaging was loud and clear: “Climate Change Is Real,” he wrote on a small sign in red and green.

The actor had joined participants who were objecting President Trump‘s rollback of restrictions on mining, oil drilling and greenhouse gas emissions at coal-fired power plants, among other things, according to the Associated Press. Organizers estimate 300 other protest marches will gathered thousands of people across the country last Saturday.

The march coincided with Trump‘s 100th day in office, a tenure that has been dotted with a number of setbacks thus far.

White House Correspondents Dinner Goes On, Without Donald Trump

An annual Washington tradition best known for celebrity guests and a comedy routine by the president continues on Saturday with neither.

The White House Correspondents Association dinner, at the Washington Hilton in D.C.’s Dupont Circle neighborhood, will be held without President Donald Trump and the high-profile guests typically invited by news outlets that organize the event. Instead, this year’s dinner will include guests like the high-school journalists who brought down their principal with a story on her faked credentials. (The kids will be guests of HuffPost.)

Trump announced he was skipping the dinner in February, making him the first president in more than three decades to break the tradition. At the time, Trump and his administration were fiercely attacking reporters and media outlets. He described the media as “the enemy of the American people,” threatened to change libel laws so he can more easily sue news organizations, attacked the media for using unnamed sources in stories critical of his administration, and blocked certain outlets, including HuffPost, from attendance at press briefings.

Saturday’s correspondents dinner will still feature a roast of the president, delivered by “The Daily Show” correspondent Hasan Minhaj, a Muslim comedian who has condemned Trump’s anti-Muslim actions. It’s a safe bet that there will be plenty of jabs at the president’s expense.

Still, this year’s correspondents dinner will be a diminished affair compared with past years. Much of the star power typically drawn to the dinner will instead be concentrated at an alternative event thrown by “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee. The New Yorker and Vanity Fair have canceled the extravagant after-parties they typically hold. And Trump is holding a rally at the same time as the dinner, presumably to divert attention from the Washington event.

Jeff Mason, president of the White House Correspondents Association, said this year’s dinner would focus on its original purpose: funding scholarships for aspiring journalists and recognizing the work of reporters covering the presidency.

“We look forward to shining a spotlight at the dinner on some of the best political journalism of the past year and recognizing the promising students who represent the next generation of our profession,” Mason said in a statement.

Given Trump’s anti-media attacks, the dinner also is likely to focus on freedom of the press and the media’s watchdog role in government.

Blake Lively Goes Off On Reporter Who Asks About Her ‘Power Outfit’

Blake Lively was having none of the status-quo red carpet sexism while attending Variety’s Power of Women event Friday.

The actress, who is one of Variety’s honorees, was answering questions on the red carpet at New York City’s Cipriani when she was asked about her go-to “power outfit” by a female reporter, according to the New York Daily News.

“Come on, you want to talk about an outfit today?” she asked. “Come on, what about building women up? Outfits? Would you ask a man that? … You wouldn’t ask a man what a power outfit was. I’m sorry.”

A Twitter video from the moment shows Lively telling the reporter it’s time to learn ― and change.

Back in January, Lively joined the Women’s March in New York City to help be a face for the movement. She has been vocal about championing women’s rights, for herself, for her daughters and for complete strangers.

When it comes to raising her children, she is conscious about pushing back against Hollywood’s beauty standards

“We have really unrealistic beauty standards and beauty norms,” Lively told Refinery29 in February. “What you’re seeing on red carpets and in magazines takes a lot of effort and a lot of people. People don’t understand that it’s all very constructed. What little girls are seeing isn’t what [these celebrities] look like when they wake up in the morning — even though it’s no less beautiful.”

Diesel Black Gold Goes Co-ed Starting From June

MILAN — Diesel Black Gold, the contemporary line under the Diesel umbrella, will combine its men’s and women’s shows starting next June.
“Our men’s and women’s collections are really interlocked and I think this decision is a nice reflection of modern times and cultural changes,” said Diesel Black Gold creative director Andreas Melbostad, who was tapped in 2012 to design the brand’s women’s lineups and, a year later, took on responsibility for the men’s wear division as well. “The co-ed show will also allow us to stress the idea of individuality of the young generations, which are more free from certain established divisions.”
Melbostad also highlighted that “the show won’t be unisex. We will continue having a men’s collection and a women’s collection, even if there are already certain pieces which have a genderless attitude.” The co-ed shows will feature 50 percent of men’s looks and another 50 percent of women’s outfits, according to the designer. Men’s wear and women’s wear currently account 60 percent and 40 percent of Diesel Black Gold’s total business, respectively.

Louis C.K. Goes All White Privilege in ‘Saturday Night Live’ Monologue

Louis C.K. took on a chicken’s racism and white privilege in his return stint as host of “Saturday Night Live,” and left Donald Trump completely out of it.

“Why did the chicken cross the road?” he asked right at the start of his monologue. “Because there was a black guy walking behind him.” The chicken was nervous, looking over his shoulder, and when nothing happened, he felt horrible, telling himself, “I’m such a racist,” the comedian explained.

“Don’t be upset, this is not a racist joke,” he added. “The chicken … was definitely racist, but that’s chickens. They’re very closed down, suspicious.” The bird, by the way, was later killed and eaten in the story.

On the other side of the road, he talked about the time he used his white privilege in a tony hotel, demanding to know what had happened to his laundry.

“You can hear in my voice that I’m white,” he told the concierge. “It’s wrong that white people get preferential treatment. But as long as they do, what’s going on at this hotel? I’m supposed to get the best! Because I’m white! Which is awful and wrong … but where is it right now?”

A frantic manager asks, “What white happened?” and launches an investigation into C.K.’s laundry, which, it turns out he never turned in.

C.K.’s last stint as “SNL” host in 2015 rattled fans because he joked about child molestation. This time, he joked about sex with a goat. “I don’t care if you’re upset,” he said. “I’m still getting the goat.”

Eiffel Tower Goes Dark To Mourn Victims Of Stockholm Attack

At midnight in Paris, the Eiffel Tower went dark to mourn the lives lost during Friday’s suspected terrorist attack in Sweden’s capital.

At least four people were killed and more than a dozen injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd of people at a shopping district in Stockholm.

“Sweden has been attacked,” Prime Minister Stefan told news reporters on Friday. “Everything points to the fact that this is a terrorist attack.”

This is the second time this week the Eiffel Tower has shut off its lights to show respect and solidarity with a country reeling from tragedy. The tower went dark Tuesday in response to an explosion that killed 14 people and injured 50 others in a subway in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo called Friday for the Eiffel Tower’s lights to be switched off earlier than scheduled.

“Horror struck Sweden at its heart today,” Hidalgo tweeted. “All my sympathy goes to the victims and their families.”

The Eiffel Tower’s lights are typically turned off every night at 1 a.m., according to the tower’s website. But sometimes the lights are shut down earlier in recognition of a terrorist attack or to raise awareness of various issues.

When a terrorist rammed pedestrians with his vehicle and stabbed a guard in London last month, Paris shut off the Eiffel Tower’s lights at midnight in honor of those killed. The lights were turned off at 8 p.m. Dec. 14 to call attention to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and in 2015 to mourn the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

John Oliver Goes Off On America’s Most Absurd Marijuana Laws

John Oliver returned on Sunday after a brief hiatus with a detailed story about America’s most counter-productive and antiquated marijuana laws.

In addition to detailing how the U.S. tax code screws marijuana businesses that operate legally within their states, Oliver showed how federal regulations put individuals who were complying with state laws at risk.

“If you have marijuana right now, even if you are acting completely legally according to your state, you may still be in serious jeopardy,” Oliver said. The “Last Week Tonight” host then went through numerous examples of how federal law interfered with people who had medical marijuana prescriptions to treat everything from epileptic seizures to PTSD.

“I know that some people will say, well hold on, the medical efficacy of marijuana needs a lot more study, and that is true,” Oliver said. “The problem is, it’s very difficult to do that because federal laws are standing in the way.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Donald Trump’s administration have hinted that the federal government may crack down on states that have legalized recreational marijuana use.

“I don’t think America is going to be a better place when people of all ages, and particularly young people, are smoking pot,” Sessions told reporters in February. “I believe it’s an unhealthy practice, and current levels of THC in marijuana are very high compared to what they were a few years ago, and we’re seeing real violence around that.”

Eminem Goes After Donald Trump On New Big Sean Track

Eminem is once again taking a firm stand against Donald Trump.

The Detroit rap star calls the president “a bitch” and vows to “make his whole brand go under” in a verse on Big Sean’s track “No Favors.”

It features on Big Sean’s new album “I Decided,” which he released on Friday ― and the song also contains references to racism and police brutality.

It’s the second time that Eminem has come for Trump, with the rapper releasing a nearly eight-minute track in the month before the 2016 presidential election:

Consider me a dangerous man, but you should be afraid of this dang candidate,” Eminem rapped on “Campaign Speech,” before calling Trump a “loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the button.”

FGI Rising Star Award Goes to Claudia Li and Alejandra Alonso Rojas

In these uncertain political times, more than a few winners and presenters at Thursday’s Fashion Group International Rising Stars Awards preferred to relay a message rather than stay on one.
In delivering her keynote address, Whoopi Goldberg told the crowd, “We’re not all the same — thank God. We don’t all think the same thing and that’s what makes us interesting. We can have these conversations without evil in our hearts, so that’s what I’m asking for. With all that you do, and all that you supply, supply it with a little bit of love in your heart. It can’t hurt.
“You know it’s going to be a little rocky for a while, but people always need to feel good. That’s where you come in. You’ll make people feel good, feel better. You know you can’t change it. It happened. We’re here now, so do whatever you can do to lighten it,” Goldberg said.
As a guest of Hilldun’s Gary Wassner, Goldberg, who launched an ugly holiday sweater collection last year, said she didn’t expect to be honored with FGI’s Spirit of the Rising Star award. With a role in ABC’s “When We Rise” miniseries about the AIDS crisis coming up, the Oscar-winning

Waterfall Wedding Proposal Goes Horribly Wrong

Be real careful about where you pop the question.

Isaiah Adams recently proposed to his girlfriend, Grace, in what no doubt seemed like a picture-perfect setting: Maryland’s Cunningham Falls.

Then, in a flash, the ring was gone, falling into the cold waters below.

I was crying with happiness but then I was crying with fear at the same time. I looked up and his face was just shock,” Grace told “Inside Edition.”

The ring was never found, but the show reported that the couple plans to get married anyway.

At least they still have their love, right? Here’s hoping Adams didn’t take that two months’ salary thing too seriously.

Hairdresser Goes Above And Beyond For Young Customer With Autism

A West Virginia mom’s viral Facebook post is demonstrating the power of empathy when it comes to kids with special needs.

On Dec. 29, Jennifer McCafferty posted a photo that shows her 4-year-old son Isaiah having his hair cut while sitting on the floor of a Sport Clips salon in Charleston. In the caption, the mom explained that Isaiah has autism, so this hairdresser’s kindness meant a great deal to their family.

“This woman, Kaylen, … did more for my heart than she will probably ever realize,” McCafferty wrote. “Haircuts with Isaiah are no small feat. He hates having anything near his ears, the sound of clippers sends him in to a tailspin.”

McCafferty explained that this particular evening at the salon was consistent with their past difficult experiences. “I was ready to give up, but she wasn’t,” she said. “She sat on the floor with my baby in her lap, and she cut his hair. They talked about Dory and Christmas, and she even let him spray her with her water bottle.”

Concluding her post, the mom shared a message on behalf of her family and others facing similar challenges. “Autism can be so very, very hard, but people like this make our days just a little easier,” she wrote.

McCafferty’s post received nearly 95,000 likes. The Love What Matters Facebook page shared her story as well. The comments sections on both posts are filled with responses from fellow parents of kids with autism.

McCafferty told The Huffington Post that Kaylen was a real lifesaver that day at the salon. When Isaiah had a meltdown, she went above and beyond to help him find “his quiet, safe space” in the midst of the overwhelming sensory stimulation.

“She wasn’t fazed by his screams; she understood his fears,” McCafferty recalled. “She figured out where it was he needed to go, which just so happened to be the floor, and she took him there.”

The mom said Isaiah has a “beautiful soul” and a warm heart. “He is everything that you would want your child to be,” she said. “He’s fun and full of energy. He’s sweet and kind, and ridiculously funny. He loves with everything he has.”

Isaiah’s love is especially boundless when it comes to his 6-year-old brother, Alex. “They have an amazing bond, and I credit Alex for a lot of the progress Isaiah has made with his social interactions,” McCafferty said. “Alex is able to comfort Isaiah when the rest of us can’t, and always seems to know just what Isaiah needs to soothe him.”

McCafferty told HuffPost she hopes Isaiah’s haircut story will bring hope to other parents of kids with special needs. “I want them to realize that even though it can feel like it, they are not alone,” she said. “I want everyone to see just how much love and kindness matter.”

‘Walking Dead’ Star Josh McDermitt Goes Off On Co-Star’s Body-Shamers

Negan isn’t the only one who will “shut that s**t down.” Now, it’s Eugene’s turn.

The Walking Dead” actor Alanna Masterson was brutally body-shamed after a recent episode featured her character, Tara. Masterson, who gave birth to her daughter right before filming began on Season 7 (and went back to work anyway), revealed the abuse in a powerful Instagram post, and this all just doesn’t sit right with her co-star Josh McDermitt.

While talking with The Huffington Post during a Build Series interview, the actor went off on Masterson’s body-shamers.

“She just had a kid. That’s why she hasn’t been in the first six episodes because she was recovering from pregnancy and then people are talking trash about her appearance, and it’s like, screw you,” he said.

McDermitt continued, “I’m going to bully you into stop bullying. That’s what I feel like we need to do. I don’t know how this is gonna work, but we have to stop bullying each other and calling people out for their appearance.”

The actor said he often acts self-deprecating to take the wind out of the bullies’ sails, but he explained, “Not everyone’s gonna do that, and, honestly, I wish I didn’t have to do that.”

“People need to chill the F out with the crap that they’re putting on the internet. It’s very disturbing because we are people, everyone. And I’m not talking about actors. I’m talking about anyone on the internet. I mean, I just read something on CNN the other day where a teenage girl committed suicide who was cyber bullied. This is bullshit. This should never happen,” he said.

McDermitt said social media companies aren’t doing enough and called on them to go after bullies and shut down accounts.

In the meantime, Tara from “Walking Dead” has her own message for bullies:

Stephen Colbert Goes Off On Oxford Dictionaries’ Word Of The Year

Stephen Colbert has beef with the Oxford Dictionaries’ new “Word of the Year.”

The “Late Show” host lightheartedly claimed he was “pre-enraged” with the institution’s editors for selecting “post-truth” as 2016’s most important word.

“First of all, post-truth is not a word of the year, it’s the two words of the year, hyphens are for the weak,” the comedian said.

His second and more major concern, however, was that “post-truth” was “clearly a rip-off of my 2006 word of the year ‘truthiness.’”

Colbert went on to compare his decade-old definition of “truthiness” and the Oxford Dictionaries’ interpretation of “post-truth.”

And there are some very definite similarities in the words that can both be used to partially explain why the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union and what led Donald Trump to win the U.S. presidential election.

“I personally believe I’m getting ripped off,” Colbert later quipped.

Check out the full monologue in the clip above.

Singapore Fashion Week Goes Digital

Singapore Fashion Week has acquired Digital Fashion Week, a four-year-old designer showcase that places a heavy emphasis on promoting talents via social media and online platforms.
Singapore Fashion Week organizers said the union with Digital Fashion Week “marks a monumental shift towards a larger digital presence for SFW.” Digital Fashion Week has supported more than 50 local designers through fashion events and runway shows in Singapore and Bangkok, Singapore Fashion Week said.
“DFW’s online portal, digitalfashionweek.com, will amplify the local and international reach of SFW content, and be the go-to destination for live-streaming of SFW runway shows, fashion news reporting and extensive galleries of runway images,” the event organizer said.
The next edition of Singapore Fashion Week will take place Oct. 26 to 30 at its new official venue, the National Gallery of Singapore. The event joins an already crowded calendar of events for October. Shanghai Fashion Week runs Oct. 12 to 20, while both Tokyo and Seoul Fashion Weeks are slated to run Oct. 17 to 22. China Fashion Week in Beijing runs Oct. 25 to 31.

Kanye West Goes on Delighted Twitter Rant About Met Gala ‘Best Dressed’ Honor: ‘It’s the Grammys of Style!’

A happy Kanye West Twitter rant? We never thought we’d see the day.

The rapper was so elated to read he and wife Kim Kardashian West were among the Met Gala‘s Best Dressed Couple according to Vogue, that he couldn’t help but publicly share the news.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Andrew H. Walker/REX/Shutterstock

Taking to his favorite social media app, Kanye wrote, “I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style!”

Like many other of the lavish evening’s guests, Kim and Kanye approached the Manus x Machina theme with sequins and sparkle. The couple both wore pieces designed by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, with Kim going “blingy sexy robot” in her form-fitting gown. Kanye was decidedly dressed down in ripped Fear of God denim (which go for $ 895) and an intricately embellished jacket — paired with an icy pair of blue contact lenses.

In the past, Kanye has made Vogue‘s best dressed list for the annual ball solo — even once included in a photograph with Kim strategically cropped out.

VIDEO: Tim Gunn Slams the Kardashian Family for Their ‘Distasteful’ Style, Calls Kanye West’s Fashion Line ‘Dumb’

“Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team,” West continued on Twitter, before revealing that Kim’s look was the product of some scissor action. “Thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half and thank you for turning my personal jean jacket into a couture piece. Also to Kim’s hair and makeup Lorraine jewelry and the whole style squad at Balmain and the Yeezy team.”

Kim isn’t afraid to hack away at her designer duds, once crafting a co-ordinating crop and skirt from a Dior pink dress. We can’t quite pinpoint what parts of the reality star’s look were dissected, but can imagine the sartorial snipping was meant to show off Kim’s post-baby figure.

Nevertheless, Kanye said the pair had “fun with the ‘future’ theme.”

“It was a fun night all together,” he tweeted.

Among the night’s other perfect pairings? Gigi Hadid in custom Tommy Hilfiger with Zayn Malik in Versace, and Hannah Davis in Zuhair Murad Couture with Derek Jeter.

Do you think Kim and Kanye were the best dressed couple? Tell us in the comments.

Bill O’Reilly Completely Goes Off On Republican Leaders

Bill O’Reilly has officially entered the no-chill zone.

“The O’Reilly Factor” host blames Republican leadership for the rise of Donald Trump as a presidential candidate, and he’s not afraid to let them (or anyone within a 15-mile radius) know it.

O’Reilly completely lost control of his indoor voice, instead going full outdoor voice to chew out Republican leaders over not getting laws passed. The TV host says Trump owes his popularity to Republican voters who want to “blow the whole establishment up,” and he’s clearly cool with blowing up himself to prove the point.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.

Diane von Furstenberg’s Autobiography Goes German in Berlin and Hamburg

BERLIN — Make it three for three: Diane von Furstenburg was on a three-day hop in Germany late last week to present “Die Frau, die ich sein wollte,” the third language version of her autobiography, which is now available in English, Italian and German. Chinese and French translations of “The Woman I Wanted to Be” are planned for the end of 2016. “We still have to sell it to Spain and Japan,” the designer said during a visit to Berlin’s  department store KaDeWe Thursday.
The tour started Wednesday evening with a reading and book signing at the Autorenbuchhandlung, or Author’s Book Shop under the S-Bahn arches of Berlin Savignyplatz. It was packed event, “and I even saw old friends — like Veruschka [von Lehndorff],” von Furstenberg remarked, smiling.
Another friend, David Chipperfield, filled in the Thursday night slot with a dinner for the designer at his Berlin home, and after Friday’s book signing at the new Unger concept store Uzwei in Hamburg, von Furstenberg was having dinner with Jil Sander, “who I haven’t seen in maybe  25 years so I e-mailed her.”
DVF has been part of the Unger assortment since 2002, and while the business started with a modest corner several years

Breitling Goes the Smartwatch Route

Breitling, the Swiss watchmaker best known for its chunky aviator timepieces, will soon unveil its first commercial smartwatch, as the race to respond to the Apple Watch heats up. Family owned-Breitling, one of the few remaining Swiss watch brands not to be part of a major international luxury goods group, will launch its new Exospace model in New York City on Dec. 16. That will be a little more than a month after rival sports watchmaker Tag Heuer, part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, also chooses the Big Apple for its long-awaited smartwatch premiere.

The choice of location was purely coincidental, Jean-Paul Girardin, Breitling’s vice president, said. A Breitling employee since 1992, and de facto chief executive officer of the group, owned by the media-shy Schneider family, since 1999, Girardin revealed the name and timing at a watch media lunch on Wednesday.
The new model is based on the B55 Connect prototype first seen at this year’s Basel World watch show in late March. Although development and production had progressed quickly after the positive initial public reactions, Girardin said the first models would probably only be available in most markets in early January. Breitling declined to give any precise pricing for its

Kendall Jenner Goes Braless In Sheer Shirt

Throughout her time at Paris Fashion Week, Kendall Jenner has proven that she likes to keep things sheer.

The supermodel was seen wearing yet another see-through item of clothing for Shiatzy Chen’s runway show on Tuesday. Jenner went braless under a sheer pink shirt with delicate floral designs, paired with a metallic silver skirt and matching, lace-up shoes.

The 19-year-old hasn’t been shy about showing off her nipple ring, which she says she got during a ”rough time.”

“Honestly, it hurt, but wasn’t as bad as everyone made it seem, and maybe because everyone hyped it up and I thought it would be really, really bad,” she told the New York Post. “Then it wasn’t as bad as I expected.”

Kim Kardashian Goes Topless For Sultry Magazine Cover Shoot

She may not have always been comfortable posing in the nude, but these days, Kim Kardashian is confident in her birthday suit.

The 34-year-old took to Instagram Thursday afternoon to share a few new sultry photos from her September cover shoot with C magazine. In the black and white images, the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star covers her chest with her forearm as she looks off into the distance. Her brunette locks are slicked back and she’s sporting smoky eye makeup.

Inside the issue, the expectant mother of one talks about balancing her many business ventures and being a parent.

“If I’m working on an individual project, like my fragrance, I will only work on it if I’m 100 percent passionate about it, because that takes me away from my family,” she said. “I base my whole schedule around my daughter and my husband — that’s how life is now.”

The reality star added that motherhood “taught me how to prioritize. And I was forced to take a break for awhile. I never liked downtime, but I decided I enjoy it — that’s when the fun ideas come about.”

Kim Kardashian Goes Makeup-Free For Vogue España

It’s hard to keep up with all of Kim Kardashian’s magazine covers, but her most recent, for Vogue España, is pretty hard to miss. It’s not every day that we see the queen of selfies sans contouring.

The 34-year-old beauty is makeup-free on the glossy’s August cover. The glowing reality star even looks, dare we say, normal? If it weren’t for that blinding rock, you might mistake North’s mama for a regular old mortal.

Kardashian took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that the entire shoot was done without makeup. “I can’t wait for you to see it!” she captioned the photo.

Mental Health Monitoring Goes Mobile

2015-02-04-Joni_Blecher_150x150.jpgBy Joni Blecher
Joni Blecher is a freelance writer who has spent her career covering tech and a myriad of lifestyle topics. When she’s not writing, you can find her exploring the food scene in Portland, Oregon.

There are countless devices you can strap to your body that will monitor your physical activity, track your vitals, even tell you to stop slouching. You may have also heard about a competition to develop a Star Trek-inspired medical tricorder capable of diagnosing more than a dozen medical conditions and capturing five vital signs. Yet in a nation increasingly obsessed with counting steps taken, calories burned, and minutes spent sitting or sleeping, mental health issues remain largely taboo — even though nearly 20 percent of adults in the U.S. are affected by some form of mental illness.

But what if there was a device you could carry around every day that could help you discreetly monitor and manage things like insomnia, PTSD, depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders, or schizophrenia?

There is. It’s your phone.

2015-05-16-1431735916-8506732-WhatsMyM3_300x466.jpg

WhatsMyM3

Ever wondered if you’re clinically depressed or just having a bad day? There’s a diagnostic test that will let you know if it’s time to call a therapist, or go get a bowl of ice cream. Just download the M3 mood screen test to your phone to find out.

Created by a group of mental health doctors, professors and therapists, WhatsMyM3 is a basic app that includes mental health resources, a history of test results, and a set of 29 questions to help rate your mood and anxiety symptoms. At the end of the questionnaire, you get a score that provides you an analysis of your risk for depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders, and PTSD. You can print, email or allow a health care professional to access your results online.

Be aware that your M3 score is not a diagnosis (only a medical professional can provide that), but it can help you decide if it’s time seek professional help.

2015-05-16-1431735956-3663157-CBTi_300x466.jpg

CBT-i

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs recently launched a mobile app store geared toward veterans and VA care teams. The apps on the site are free, but some require a special login as they are linked to a patient’s VA Electronic Health Record. There are many apps that are designed to help users deal with medical issues such as concussions, PTSD, weight management, and more.

One of the apps on the site is the CBT-i Coach, which is designed to help with insomnia. Based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Veterans, the app was developed by VA’s National Center for PTSD, Stanford School of Medicine, and Department of Defense’s National Center for Telehealth and Technology. The free app (available for iOS and Android) includes guided meditation, a sleep diary, relaxation exercises, and tools to help create new sleep habits.

While the app isn’t just for veterans, CBT-i should be used in conjunction with a CBT in-person therapy program, and not as a standalone tool to cure your insomnia.

2015-05-16-1431736004-9290818-ginger.io_300X466.jpg

Ginger.io

What began as a thesis at MIT Media Lab to find out if your phone could detect when you’re not feeling well became an app that will alert a doctor when a patient isn’t doing well. That’s the idea behind Ginger.io. Initially, the app was designed to help with depression and behavioral health issues (anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia), but it’s also in trials to help with heart disease and chronic pain.

Once installed on your phone, the app works behind the scenes to gather information about where you go, your call data, text message patterns, and even motion data from the accelerometer. When significant deviations occur, an alert is sent to you and your care provider, who can then decide if treatment is needed. While the app is available for iOS and Android devices, only a health care provider or professional can activate it.

Ginger.io provides a way to get ahead of issues before they escalate, and it can alert your doctor to things you might forget to mention or think are irrelevant.

Using apps to monitor something as sensitive as mental health of course raises questions about legitimacy and security. Before downloading any app, it’s important to know its source, its developers (health care professionals or someone else), and how it uses the data it collects. Much of this information can be found on the iTunes and Google Play app listing page and at the developer’s website.

Another question is accuracy: what if you try to “cheat” the questions to mask your symptoms, or your phone is lost or stolen? That’s where a doctor of therapist comes in. The data these apps collect can certainly help fill in gaps, but they don’t provide a complete picture.

The Empire State Building is one of the most-photographed buildings in the world, but you’ve probably never seen it like this. Getting up close and personal with the (temporarily) green giant takes going into a helicopter. It’s even more majestic from above:

‘The 100’ Goes Dark In A Good Way: Season 2 Secrets From The CW Show’s Creator

“I didn’t see that coming.”

I said that to myself more than once during the first three episodes of “The 100,” which returns Wednesday on The CW.

The good news is, those shocks weren’t gratuitous or unsatisfying, and they weren’t merely there to shine a light on whatever wild plot turn had arisen in this brisk tale of post-apocalyptic survival.

No, what surprised me was how dark “The 100” was willing to go.

You’d have thought I learned my lesson during the show’s energetic first season, when “The 100” regularly transgressed whatever I thought of as “the rules” of The CW.

Everyone is quite attractive on “The 100” — some rules can never be broken — but that appears to be the only inviolate law of the network, which currently airs a large number of shows I just cannot quit (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supernatural,” “Jane the Virgin“).

It isn’t just about the abs on these programs; it’s about the aspiration. Through all of their ups and downs (and there have been many peaks and valleys on “Supernatural,” which is about to air its 200th episode), these shows present characters, relationships and moral dilemmas that hold my interest week to week. That’s more than I can say for approximately 87 percent of the tepid new broadcast network dramas that have turned up in the last few fall seasons.

You could almost say that The CW is broadcast-network television’s boutique cable brand: The stakes are lower and it’s able to take more chances, and in recent years, its smarter gambits have paid off. While the bigger, richer broadcast networks turn increasingly toward bland formulas, “noisy” concepts and ill-advised star vehicles, The CW has quietly stuck to its knitting, churning out solid and enjoyable shows that end up giving me me more hope about humanity than an assorted six pack of network crime procedurals.

“The 100” is by far the network’s darkest show, but this addictive drama doesn’t forget to supply the adventure element as well. (“The 100” does for running through forests what “Doctor Who” does for sprinting down spaceship corridors.) It doesn’t have the bucks of bigger networks, so it has, of late, focused on smart casting and fresh, energized takes on familiar forms.

So, as you might have guessed, I am not here to make a claim for the innate originality of “The 100.” Like a crash survivor cannibalizing his or her ship, “The 100” takes components from the standard Y.A. and sci-fi toolkits and assembles them into a sturdy, efficient narrative. But like Syfy’s “Defiance” — another pulpy, enjoyable serial that unashamedly deploys its share of sci-fi and Western tropes and has a number of game, charismatic actors at its core — “The 100” doesn’t look away from the deeper questions embedded in its narrative.

“The 100” — a figure that originally described the number of teen survivors plunked down a century after Earth’s nuclear apocalypse — continues to tell the story of several factions of adults and teens trying to stay alive under desperate circumstances. Hence the occasional harshness and even extreme brutality on display, but this is no surprise to those who witnessed the torture and murders that occurred in Season 1. The good news is, this show truly embraces the characters’ impossible moral dilemmas without ever lapsing into lazy cynicism or predictable despair, and extreme actions are given the moral weight they’re due.

Though Earth is now habitable, more or less, if some are going to live, then others have to die, and these characters ask themselves who and what is worth dying for without bogging down the narrative with overdoses of morose self-pity. Sure, the drama has some convenient twists and a few believability-stretching moments, but I’m willing to give “The 100” the benefit of the doubt because its cast is used well, its pacing is crisp and it’s more morally adventurous than a lot of shows with far greater resources.

The survival game has changed this season: More adults have arrived on the scene and they have their own ideas about how to impose “order” on the young people — and others — who are roaming the surprisingly picturesque post-apocalyptic territories. The grown-ups often think they know best, but more often than not, Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) is not having any of it.

Taylor is admirably committed to conveying Clarke’s unbreakable will, which sometimes comes off as almost unreasonable stubbornness. But Clarke’s skepticism about her new situation ends up being understandable, and her resistance is one of the most attractive elements of “The 100.” These kids have a chance to literally remake the world, and Clarke and her cohorts Bellamy (Bob Morley), Finn (Thomas McDonell), Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) and Raven (Lindsey Morgan) do not want to re-make their parents’ mistakes.

It’s fairly bold of “The 100” to take a narrative that’s relatively similar to “The Walking Dead” and put a teen girl at the center of it (and as is the case with “The Good Wife,” The CW show would actually support a reading of it as a critique of the differences between male and female leadership styles). As Alyssa Rosenberg has pointed out, even on prestige dramas, young women often “function as built-in critics of the behavior of the adults.” Though Eliza is clearly at the center of this story, many of the younger characters on “The 100” are turning into credible leaders. As Bellamy, Bob Morley has been a terrific asset to the show since it began, and through sheer force of will, Bellamy’s sister Octavia has become one of my favorite TV badasses. There’s a Season 2 scene in which Octavia overpowers a much larger character and the moment should have been preposterous, but Avgeropoulos sold the hell out of it.

There’s a lot for the young folk to critique on “The 100,” but there are not many cartoonish villains to be found (and the show makes good use of skilled adult actors like Paige Turco and Raymond J. Barry). On lesser dramas, hiring a parade of “Battlestar Galactica” actors might bring up uncomfortable questions about what a show is lacking, but on “The 100,” the presence of “BSG” alums drive home the central parallel between that great show and this more modest yet very enjoyable one.

As Adama and Roslin taught us, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

HuffPost TV spoke to “The 100” executive producer Jason Rothenberg about what fans can expect from the second season. I don’t consider what’s below to be particularly spoiler-y. There are hints about what’s coming, but trust me, you won’t see a lot of it coming.

Last time we talked, you couldn’t tell me how many episodes would be in Season 2, but now we know it’s 16. How do you feel about that number?

I love that number. Thirteen was hard to do. Sixteen is going to be harder because it’s just the sheer number [of episodes in total]. I don’t know how people do 22 episodes and make them good. In a serialized adventure like this, that’s too much. You can’t have every episode be good. At some point, the most important part of my job is quality control. Last year, we were able to do what I think was a very strong 13-episode season. This year, we’re going to do a little more, but it’s not so much more that it’s going to kill me and make it so that [the attitude would be], “Eh, that’s good enough.”

When we talked before [before and after the Season 1 finale], you said you wanted to get into more character moments and the characters’ pasts, so I would think more episodes would give you time to do that. I also think about the fact that you have so many groups and factions now — you just probably need more room for that.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a new show, but it’s very different.”Yeah, so far a lot story time in the first couple of episodes has been taken up with that. We’re almost re-establishing what the show is. I wouldn’t say it’s a new show, but it’s very different. We’re establishing new sets. Usually, in a Season 2, you go back to your same locations and same sets. This is totally new. We’ve got no Ark, for the most part. We’ve got Mount Weather, which we spent a ton of money on and it’s amazing. We’re going to live there for quite a bit of story. That’s a new world. And that’s really hard on production, by the way. You don’t have the time or the money that you have with a pilot.

On top of that, you are shooting outside a lot, and the weather around Vancouver can be so rainy and unpredictable.

It’s great, though. I’m in my nice office in Santa Monica, so I can’t really complain, but the worse the weather is, the better the show tends to look.

Is there a dividing line in the season — like, a first bunch and then the show comes back in the new year and airs a bunch more?

The good thing about last year was that we did 13 episodes in a row. This year, we’re on in the fall, so unfortunately there are some natural breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But in the [writers’] room, we break stories so there’s a big [episode] right before the first break and a big one right before the second break. The bigger episodes will unfold like that. And then I think we run through eight in a row at the end. There’s a huge [development in] Episode 5. And there’s a story point [later in the season] that’s going to really blow people’s minds.

Given where everyone’s starting in Season 2, it sounds like there will be a lot of new recurring characters.

Yes, there will be new people who will be with us for a while. The fun thing is, we’re building out all these universes — Mount Weather, the camp where the Ark fell — that’s our main ground set this year. It’s unbelievable how big the ship is. We built the drop ship last year, but this is a section of the Ark. It’s huge.

The thing that Abby and Kane climbed out of at the end of Season 2 — that’s a different section. It broke apart and they were looking for other survivors, and they came across this section that is more intact. Over the season, that [large section of the Ark on the ground] becomes like “Deadwood” with a space ship in the middle of it. It’s like a Western town. They build a bar and a hospital and all of that.

What’s been the most fun about the second season so far?

There are so many new people on the ground, so we get to have scenes with actors who have never worked together. There are some really big reunions coming up.

I’m sure you can’t say when it will be, but the Abby-Clarke reunion will be a big deal.

That’ll be a really long-awaited moment for them and for the audience too. It’s going to be crazy because she’s so different now. They’re both very different from those two women who last saw each other in the teaser of the pilot episode. We did a flashback of them together in Episode 3 [in the first season], but [actors Paige Turco, who plays Clarke’s mother, Abby, and Eliza Taylor] have not worked together since then.

Obviously the show has a very active online community and you interact with them a lot. Do you ever think, “What will the fans think?” when you’re laying out where the show will go?

I’ve never been influenced by anyone saying [what they want]. If [a fan idea] is a great idea, I would do it, but I’m not going to take the pulse of the audience before I do anything. You’ve got to surprise people.

I will assume you know that people are really into Linctavia.

That’s a relationship with that actually has some real weight in the show, because it’s about different cultures. The whole thing this season is about turning people’s views on the Grounders. The Grounders are actually not the monolithic bad guys. When I say the season is about reunions, it’s also about unions. Groups that hate each other and are at war with each other need to make alliances in order to defeat the bigger bad that may be out there.

I wanted to ask a couple of those before I let you go. Here’s one: Where did Lincoln get his tattoos?

The Grounders actually tattoo themselves. It’s sort of based on Native American culture [and many] ancient cultures — tattooing is a really old art form. They’re all hand done. One tattoo that actually isn’t a tattoo is — they mark themselves for every kill. They burn a little bump into their backs. Lincoln has that field of bumps on his back. And they could tell you [who each person was]. It’s a way not to sort of glamorize the kill but to memorialize the person that died.

We’re going to meet a character this year named Indra who’s a very high-ranking Grounder who’s got [a lot of them]. They don’t fit on her back, they spill down her arm.

Will we learn Lincoln’s last name?

No. I don’t know if he has a last name, honestly. I think if they have last names, it’s more like, “Of the Woods.” It’s more a geographic designation.

“The 100” airs Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW, and the first season of the show arrives Wednesday on Netflix.

Primus Goes All ‘Willy Wonka’ To Give Fans A Chance To Win Tickets For Life

Primus is bringing all your “Willy Wonka” dreams to life.

The band, which is known for their insane cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” and creating the original “South Park” theme, has a new LP dropping Tuesday, Oct. 21, and to celebrate they’re giving fans a chance to win tickets for life, according to Rolling Stone.

Instead of golden tickets, fans will be given the chance to find golden vinyl records mixed in with the “Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble” albums. You can see the chocolate-colored records being made in the band’s “Willy Wonka”-style video above.

The album marks the first time since 1995 that the band’s original lineup has put out an LP together. For those who can’t wait for Tuesday, The New York Times has a streamable version available now.

The chance to win free tickets for life is pretty incredible, but to keep things in perspective Primus fans should really do their best to remember the words of Willy Wonka: “Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted. He lived happily ever after.”

Groom Goes All 1849 And Pans For Gold To Create Wedding Bands

Scottish groom John Greenwood has set his own kind of gold standard for wedding rings.

Instead of visiting his local jeweler like most guys, Greenwood, an explosives technician, spent 18 months panning for gold in the Scottish mountains to make wedding bands for bride Morag Shearer and himself in time for their September 25 nuptials in Antigua. He used just a simple gold pan, trowel, shovel and rake to collect the tiny nuggets and specks.

“They talk about gold fever,” he said. “I was panning for gold in my dreams. I was driven by it. I reckon I spent 20 full days getting enough gold for the ring.”

Over the course of a year and a half, he found about 70 grams of gold, which he then gave to goldsmith Grant Logan to create the two rings. According to Logan, that is a lot more than most people in Scotland are able to find in a lifetime.

“Everybody says I must have beginner’s luck. I’ve always been interested in the idea of gold panning but I never actually did it until 18 months ago,” John said.

The approximately 22-carat rings are considered “Scottish gold,” which is a rare type and one that is not commercially available.

“I feel very proud of John and very lucky,” the bride said of her hubby’s efforts.

In 2011, Greenwood also spent three months panning for gold to create an engagement ring for Shearer.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky to find so much gold to make a ring but I was out there every weekend and in the evenings before it got dark in freezing cold water. I certainly put a lot of effort in,” he said at the time. “Some days I’d be camping next to the river and I’d start as soon as the sun was up and carry on for 14 or 15 hours a day.”

We’re just so glad it panned out for these two.

ℓ Goes to Plus Infinity

ℓ Goes to Plus Infinity

Many physical problems are meaningfully formulated in a cylindrical domain. When the size of the cylinder goes to infinity, the solutions, under certain symmetry conditions, are expected to be identical in every cross-section of the domain. The proof of this, however, is sometimes difficult and almost never given in the literature. The present book partially fills this gap by providing proofs of the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to various important cases of linear and nonlinear problems in the theory of elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations. The book is a valuable resource for graduates and researchers in applied mathematics and for engineers. Many results presented here are original and have not been published elsewhere. They will motivate and enable the reader to apply the theory to other problems in partial differential equations.

Rob Reiner on the Middle-Age Love Story ‘And So It Goes’

Rob Reiner says his new movie was inspired by Jack Nicholson. When they were talking to the press about their film, The Bucket List, Nicholson was asked what he wanted to be sure he did before he died. He said he wanted one more great love in his life. Reiner went to As Good as it Gets screenwriter Mark Andrus to write a story about a couple with a chance for one last great romance. That film is And So it Goes, with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. He plays an irascible realtor who has alienated just about everyone he knows. She plays a singer who is still mourning her late husband.

In an interview, Reiner said that there are only three kinds of films that get financed by Hollywood studios these days:

… big superhero tent-pole franchise movies, animated films and R-rated raunchy comedies. There’s not one film that I’ve ever made that could get made today by a studio, not one, even A Few Good Men because it’s an adult courtroom drama and studios do not make them any more. And so every movie that I make, have made and will make is always going be independently financed. And the reason they don’t make movies for adults and for people which are the largest bulge of the population is because they are not usually going to the movie the first weekend. They take a while to learn about it, probably word of mouth. It takes a lot of money to release a picture. They want to get the money right away and so they want to make blockbuster-type movies. But there is a lot of money to be made if you give that audience something that they want to see and hopefully with Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas the first time they’ve ever been together, they’ll be interested to see that.

The last time Reiner directed Michael Douglas, he was playing a close-to-perfect character in The American President. This time his character, Oren Little, is a bitter man who wants nothing to do with anyone, including his son and granddaughter. Reiner keeps the audience on Oren’s side by showing us “the evolution which happens in the character as he progresses through the film.”

Here’s a guy who may have had this rough side to begin with but it is exacerbated by the fact that his son had drug problems and he’s been estranged from his son. His wife passed away and he’s basically ready to check out and get out of there. He meets this woman who lives next door in this fourplex and finds out that he has a 10-year-old granddaughter that he didn’t even know he had. It’s through the relationship with them that a softer side of him starts to come out and I think you then ultimately come to like him. But it takes a while.

Reiner described the estrangement between Oren and his son.

Oren’s a lot of bigger-than-life kind of character. He talks about how he has the biggest real estate deals and he has his face on the bus bench. And I think for kids sometimes growing up if your father has a larger-than-life character you can feel diminished. And if you are person who is shy and doesn’t have an outgoing personality you can feel like you’re a failure or like you don’t live up to him, and so I think there was an insecurity with that young guy and he started using drugs as a way to feel better. And then he got into a bad place and maybe the father wasn’t as available as he might have been in those early years. I think of that generation, when the parents were more hooked into each other than they were to the children. I think that in our generation we dote on our children more than our parents did to us.

Both of the lead characters are struggling with grief and loss. But the contrast between their responses is one of the ways we learn about the different ways they approach life and relationships.

I think you have two people that have shut down a part of themselves because of loss. She is trying to reconnect with life by launching this singing career at age 65, but the part of her that thinks of herself as a sexual being is kind of tucked away. He’s thinking, “I’m gonna go away and just live in Vermont and go fishing.” They kind of do this dance around each other for a while until they start to feel like these feelings are reawakened inside of them. But then just like when you’re a young person feeling that, it’s scary. When you’re a young person you’re nervous because you don’t know what you’re doing and you’re kind of fumbling around, but when you get to become an adult you’ve had wives and husbands and you’ve been through it and you know what it’s like to have a loss and how painful it is to have a loss. You’re a little tentative about being with that person for those reasons so the dance looks the same but what at stake is slightly different.

This is Reiner’s third consecutive film featuring a character who is a young girl. Sterling Jerins plays Oren’s granddaughter.

Sterling is really gifted. She came in to read for me and I was like, ‘Whoa, who is this person?’ She was nine years old at the time and she had done a part in World War Z. She played Brad Pitt’s daughter. She had a little experience and she just stuck to it. She wasn’t intimidated at all. That’s a good thing about kids — you don’t know anything to know that you should be intimidated. You can always tell if a kid is going to be good if you look at their parents. Her mother was great and you knew that she was going to be okay. The ones that are troubled you can tell where it’s coming from.

Reiner says he never got any advice directly from his father, the legendary writer/director/actor Carl Reiner, but he learned a great deal from watching him.

When I was 14, 15, 16 during the summer when I was off from school, I would go every single day with him to The Dick Van Dyke Show and watch him. I watched him work with the actors, work with the writers. I saw the stage, the performances and where they put the cameras and all that. So that’s how I learned. It wasn’t so much from him sitting down, “Well, son, this is how you do it.”

He also learned a great deal when he was a young actor on All in the Family, playing the son-in-law of Archie Bunker.

We did over 200 shows in front of a live audience. So I learned a lot about what audiences like, what they don’t like, how stories are structured. I would spend a lot of time in the writing room and I actually wrote some scripts. And from Carroll O’Connor I learned a lot about how you perform and how important the script and story are for the actors. So the actor doesn’t have to push things. You can let the story and the dialogue support you if it’s good. I had great people around me and I took from all the people that was around.

He compared Oren to Archie Bunker.

Carroll O’Connor brought his humanity to the character even though he had these abhorrent views. He’s still a feeling, human being. He loved his wife even though he acted the way he did, and he loved his daughter. Those things come out. I don’t think anybody’s all good or all bad.

First Nighter: LBJ Bio “All the Way” With Bryan Cranston Goes All the Way

Missing for deliberate reasons or reasons of chronology from All the Way, Robert Schenkkan’s sure-fire hit at the Neil Simon, are Robert Kennedy, Sam Rayburn, Lynda Baines Johnson, Luci Bird Johnson, Jacquelyn Bouvier Kennedy, chroniclers Robert Caro and Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Otherwise, nothing that happened involving Lyndon Baines Johnson, here several times calling himself “the accidental President,” seems to have been overlooked in the past-paced coverage of events from the post-Dallas assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy on November 22, 1963 through election night, November 3, 1964.

The mission Schenkkan has set himself in this action-packed, verbiage-loaded two-acter (The Great Society, a sequel is due on the West Coast this coming July) is to demonstrate with no shilly-shallying exactly how sly-dickens Johnson (Bryan Cranston, having completed Breaking Bad‘s 60 hours) eased his way around Democrats and Republicans alike whenever he set his mind to it–which was always.

The first All the Way half is a head-knocking-after-head-knocking account of Johnson’s fighting for the 1964 Civil Rights Bill Act by cozying up to anyone in his way. There were plenty of the living and thinking obstacles, including bill-naysayer Southern Democrat Sam Russell (John McMartin) and pro-bill-but-conflicting-needs Martin Luther King (Brandon J. Dirden), Roy Wilkins (Peter Jay Fernandez) and Stokeley Carmichael (William Jackson Harper).

What the first act really is is a series of confrontations Johnson has–interrupted only a few times by the King group arguing among themselves–during which he knows what buttons to push on his demurring colleagues and pushing them as if it’s with the index finger he regularly uses to poke men in the chest.

In the second act, it’s the election he’s after. Having to deal with complications that are affecting his popularity and Barry Goldwater’s concomitant gains in the polls, he has to work his politico magic in the same manhandling way. Compounding his worries are run-ins with J. Edgar Hoover (Michael McKean), who has various threats up his sleeve, many as a result of surreptitious taping of the gal-on-the-side type he also has on Reverend King.

The most mesmerizing of these manipulation scenes are his dangling the vice president slot before the very liberal Hubert Humphrey (Robert Petkoff), his heavy-tread waltzes with Senators Everett Dirksen (Richard Poe) and James Eastland (James Eckhouse) and his cunning Hoover one-on-ones.

At these charged exchanges, Cranston triumphs. Not really resembling LBJ–although something may have been done to enlarge his ears, or maybe it’s an illusion–he raises himself to the accidental, and then deliberate, Texan’s height. He also takes on the standing and walking and sitting postures, the guffaw when joking with friends, enemies and frenemies alike and the obscenity-spouting glee, the joy in progress-achieving pragmatism.

It’s a towering performance in a couple senses of the word and directly in line with how Johnson has been depicted by journalists, historians and biographers. (Maybe Caro and Goodwin aren’t as absent from the stage as they seem.)

Effective as Schenkkan’s opus is, there’s something about it that makes it effective in a questionable way. There’s no doubt that director Bill Rauch–artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where All the Way was first performed–collected an extremely capable cast of 20. Many, if not most of them, are doubling and tripling. (The putting on and taking off of Paul Huntley’s wigs must be some backstage sight to see.)

They deserve acknowledgment individually, especially the venerable McMartin, Dirden, McKean, Poe, Eckhouse, Fernandez, Christopher Liam Moore as the Prez’s mainstay aide Walter Jenkins, Roslyn Ruff as Coretta Scott King and Fannie Lou Hamer, Betsy Aidem as ultra-understanding Lady Bird Johnson and Rob Campbell as George Wallace. It has to be said that many of the actors, dressed in Deborah M. Dryden’s ’60s fashions, don’t convincingly look a great deal like the boldface names they impersonate. But Campbell is the startling exception. He plays five parts, but he’s a dead ringer for beetle-browed Governor Wallace.

While the actors can be thanked, Rauch’s demands on them may occasionally be questioned. Probably to get the fascinating rhythm and decibel level of Johnson’s encounters going and just as possibly sensing the need to move a heavy-on-the-word-count script quickly, the scenes are revved up. Frequently (too frequently?), such speed and volume gives an over-the-top feel to the production. It’s as if the audience is invited to scan a string of Herblock editorial cartoons. An additional development is that Johnson’s any-means-to-an-end approach appears throughout to be ruling him more than his sincere beliefs in the radical changes he’s pursuing.

Rauch receives commendable help for his lickety-split tempo from Christopher Acebo, who’s designed a courtroom-like utilitarian set that with the addition and subtraction of various furnishings can be the Senate floor or the Johnson’s bedroom, can be DC, Atlanta or Mississippi, can be a Congressman’s lounge or George Wallace’s soapbox arena. Equally impressive are the projections of every sort of environment, climate and television news hour provided constantly by Shawn Sagady and consultant Wendell K. Harrington, who was in on the ground floor of the present projections-everywhere movement.

Just a few parting words about Schenkkan’s title. It’s taken, of course, from the then ubiquitous “All the way with LBJ” slogan. So why not use the slogan in its entirely for the play? (Is there some legal knot?) Conversely, why choose a title already employed for another biographical item, the 1957 movie about comedian Joe E. Lewis from which the Oscar-winning title song emanates? The Sammy Cahn-James Van Heusen ballad isn’t rendered here, but “Happy Days are Here Again” and the memorable alteration of Jerry Herman’s “Hello, Dolly” to “Hello, Lyndon” are.

Well, well, well, hello, Lyndon again.

Jim Gaffigan Goes On A Kale Rant On ‘Conan,’ And He’s Not Wrong

Between this and Jon Stewart’s incredible Chicago pizza rant, last night was a great one for food diatribes on late night TV. For anyone annoyed with the newfound popularity of kale and other healthy-yet-tasteless foods that dominate culinary trends, you have a prophet in Jim Gaffigan.

The “Dad is Fat” author stopped by “Conan” last night to express his displeasure that Whole Foods devotees are trying to force him to eat leafy vegetables that taste like bug spray. “I looked at a can of bug spray, and it said, ‘Made with real kale.'”

Check out the clip above to find out why he hates kale, almond milk and secretly thinks that people who don’t eat gluten are un-American.

The Question That Never Goes Away

The Question That Never Goes Away

Some days, the news seems too much to bear. Yet another tsunami or earthquake or flood or fire or war atrocity. One more gun-toting madman stalking young people in idyllic Norway or moviegoers in Colorado or schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut. We turn off the news only to get a phone call about expectant parents with a stillborn baby, or a loved one whose cancer has returned. Really, God? we ask. This again? If we have faith in God, it gets shaken to the core. What was God doing in the moment when that tragedy could have been prevented? If we can’t trust God to keep our children safe or our loved ones from dying in agony, what can we trust God for? It is the question that never goes away. The Question is highlighted in Newtown, Connecticut, where at the scene of the elementary school murders an ambulance driver said, ‘All of us on the fire and ambulance corps are volunteers. I’ve seen some awful things, but we don’t train for something like this—nobody does.’ The Question raises its head again in Japan where a giant tsunami raced at a speed of 500 miles per hour toward shore and in the crushing force of its wave buckled roads, cracked bridges, and collapsed buildings. And 16,000 people died. But in a miraculous turn, an eighty-year-old grandmother and her teenage son were saved after nine days. In one more part of the world Yancey looks at the Question in the former Yugoslavia, in the city of Sarajevo, where a bloody civil war erupted and snipers shot and killed 11,000 countrymen, some women and children. One woman commented, ‘Winters were the worst. Without electricity we had no heat. I had a newborn baby, born in the midst of that hell. We chopped heirloom furniture with an axe.’ But then part of an answer came to the question. ‘On Christmas a neighbor brought me a priceless gift, a root system of a tree. He was a Muslim, didn’t even celebrate Christmas, yet he sacrificed to keep us warm.’ In his classic book Where Is God When It Hurts, Philip Yancey gave us
