Kim Kardashian Used Healing Crystals to Recover From 2016 Paris Robbery

Kim Kardashian is diving further into the beauty world, launching three eau de parfums at her online beauty destination, kkwfragrance.com, on Nov. 15. The three variations on gardenia, her favorite flower and scent, are first come, first serve fragrances. Once they’re gone, that’s it.
In an exclusive interview with WWD, Kardashian outlined the process of creating and launching her three fragrances, Crystal Gardenia, Crystal Gardenia Citrus and Crystal Gardenia Oud, including the inspiration behind them.
“Honestly, after my Paris situation [when she was held at gunpoint and robbed], a lot of my friends would come over and bring me healing crystals, and I obviously knew what they were — it’s very L.A. and it’s very popular right now — but for me it meant something so different. I was sitting there and I’d get these collections of them and I started to really dig deeper into what they meant and the meanings behind them and started to go to these crystal warehouses in Culver City and downtown [L.A.],” said Kardashian.
Developing each scent was about “being calm and healing,” which are the two words Kardashian used to describe a newly zen approach she’s taken over the past year. The color variations of each

NASA Refutes Claim that Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP ‘Healing’ Stickers Share Properties with Space Suits

Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Goop has gotten a lot of criticism for its unconventional ideas – vagina steaming, over-the-top gift guides, and a $ 15,000 24-carat gold vibrator to name a few – and now the lifestyle brand is drawing fire from NASA for their claim that wearable “healing” stickers are made from the same material found in space suits.

The Goop website says the Body Vibes stickers “rebalance the energy frequency in our bodies” and “fill in the deficiencies in your reserves, creating a calming effect, smoothing out both physical tension and anxiety.” And claimed (in a statement that’s since been taken down) that the $ 160-per-10-pack stickers are “made with the same conductive carbon material NASA uses to line space suits so they can monitor an astronaut’s vitals during wear.”

But a spokesperson for NASA tells PEOPLE that they “do not line their spacesuits with conductive carbon material.”

Gizmodo also reported that Mark Shelhamer, former chief scientist at NASA’s human research division said, “What a load of BS,” when referring to the Body Vibes stickers.

“Not only is the whole premise like snake oil, the logic doesn’t even hold up,” he added. “If they promote healing, why do they leave marks on the skin when they are removed?” (Goop noted that if “you’ve got an event coming up,” to use caution since the stickers did leave marks on “a few Goop staffers” who wore them for the prescribed three-day period.)

In response, Goop issued the following statement to PEOPLE:

“As we have always explained, advice and recommendations included on goop are not formal endorsements and the opinions expressed by the experts and companies we profile do not necessarily represent the views of goop. Our content is meant to highlight unique products and offerings, find open-minded alternatives, and encourage conversation. We constantly strive to improve our site for our readers, and are continuing to improve our processes for evaluating the products and companies featured. Based on the statement from NASA, we’ve gone back to the company to inquire about the claim and removed the claim from our site until we get additional verification.”

But Paltrow has taken the criticism about the site’s wellness views in stride before – she even spoofed her recent Goop Wellness Summit.

The Gut Health Protocol – A Nutritional Approach To Healing SIBO, Intestinal Candida, GERD, Gastritis, and other Gut Health Issues

THANK YOU! I have been suffering from IBS and SIBO for years. I came across your “gut health protocol” and followed it to a T. and I truly have not felt this good in years! You have given me my life back! I never realized how sick I was, and I forgot how a healthy person should feel. I thought I had to live my life feeling the way I did. Not the case at all! To everyone out there. read the gut protocol, follow what is suggested. its so worth it! ” – Jackie A.”I’ve been doing John’s protocol for the last two months and it has helped immensely with my SIBO. My bloating and stomach distention are pretty much gone, ditto stools pretty much normal and motility much better. I had a glucose breath test (unfortunately only for hydrogen) a couple of weeks ago and it was negative. I’m should say that I did the protocol full swing, all of the supplements and extra antimicrobials, as well as lifestyle changes. I’m not necessarily 100% better, but it’s the first thing I’ve done beside a ridiculously restrictive diet that has actually helped me heal. In fact, previously my diet was slowly becoming more and more restricted. Give it a try, it’s good stuff. And, hey John Herron, thank you!” – Michelle M.”I would like to share that I have had such great success. My gut is probably about 90% better. I have had no bloating, belching, constipation or diarrhea, and limited moments of soreness. I feel that I am digesting my food and the shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and discomfort in my throat are gone too.” – Berea F.”I just looked at your latest protocol and I have to say it is totally amazing! It seems more thorough than most of the 5 books I have read. Were/are you something famous for your job?” – Debbie H.The Gut Health Protocol outlines natural approaches to tackling dozens of stomach and intestinal health issues using only scientifically studied natural herbs, supplements and diet. Comedian Jim Breuer’s Father’s Day Message of Hope and Healing

“If we don’t find the funny, there’s not too many other ways of healing.”

— Jim Breuer

Jim Breuer knows funny. The comedian who was named by Comedy Central as one of the greatest standup comedians of all time has been entertaining us since his days on “Saturday Night Live” to his recent Epix special, “Jim Breuer: Comedy Frenzy.” But it was his movie “More Than Me,” a documentary of Breuer’s experience taking his elderly and sick father on his comedy tour, which was perhaps one of the pinnacles of his career.

At the end of the movie, Breuer tearfully contemplates losing his father. Breuer’s father died of cancer in August 2014, making this Breuer’s first Father’s Day without his father. And Breuer is sharing a simple but powerful message that he learned from, and with, his dad:

You don’t have to hide from life’s uncomfortable truths — sickness, death, fear — you can look them in the eye, laugh and move on.

Breuer described how his relationship with his dad changed over time. “Well, with my dad, he was a solid-rock man. For me, fearless. I’m going to assume that came from his World War II days. And really quiet. We never had big talks. They were always short conversations,” he explained. “But every pivotal move in my life, he gave the perfect man, fatherly advice. Leaving school, chasing my career, to getting married — everything. One little line here, one little line there. He was so big and powerful.”

But as time went on, Breuer’s dad became older and struggled with his health. The comedian was taken aback as his father appeared to be aware of his own waning health. “So when he started getting old, I remember being in this kitchen, and he looked a little off, and I’m like, ‘What’s the matter, Dad?’ And he goes, ‘I think I’m coming into my last days,'” he recalled. “So, why would you say that? ‘Do you feel like you’re having a heart attack or something?’ [He said] ‘No. I’m just coming into the end of my days.'”

This was a powerful lesson for Breuer. His dad was calmly and assertively facing sickness and death. And this may be the healthiest choice. Studies suggest that far from improving well-being, suppressing or avoiding one’s experience can actually worsen mental and physical health.

And it meant that Breuer himself had to face that reality. “It was so profound. He just knew. ‘I want you to know, I’m out of here soon,'” he said. “When I heard my dad say that, he was the one thing where I was like, ‘Oh, he’s going to live forever.’ Then I went, ‘Oh, my G-d, he’s leaving.’ And I didn’t know when or what.”

It was then Breuer started to see a different side of his father. Breuer describes: “[F]or the first time, I saw him vulnerable. Never saw him vulnerable,” he explained. “And I’d get him in the shower and get over that whole ‘I’ve got to get over looking at my father naked, and clean his rear end and scrub him.’ I know he’s embarrassed. He’s not going to say he’s embarrassed. But I can tell by his face he’s embarrassed. He’d be completely humiliated.”

So Breuer took the lesson from his dad and explored how to make the best of a terrible situation. The comic started by remembering how what his dad had done for him. “And then as he started deteriorating, I just remembered all the little things he’d do for me to keep me going. And they were so little. But they were huge,” he recalled. “And so when he started going down, it’s those moments when you look at what’s really important. I’m going to start lifting him up.”

And so Breuer turned to what he knew best — humor. This was a wise choice; not only because of his chosen profession, but also because of the evidence that humor can improve many aspects of functioning from mood, to immune functioning to learning.

“[W]e’re going to laugh about it. I’m going to drive him nuts. I’m going to do what I do best. I’m going to drive you nuts. … I would laugh so hard, busting his chops,” Breuer said. “And he loved George Carlin. That would be the only thing that would make him belly-laugh. It’s just something you take on. And I did everything in my power, and I think I succeeded to make that the best I could. We laughed. We’d make it a project. We’d laugh about it. It sucked at first. But then I’d overcome it.”

And it was a two-way street. “As much as I’d bust his chops, he’d bust mine in different ways. He knew I’d get mortified when I’d say certain things in public. He got off on that,” Breuer recounted. .”The laughing was always the healer.”

For Breuer, the laughing was not an attempt to avoid the truth, but rather what made it easier to embrace truth. “Sometimes, people don’t want to acknowledge the raw truth. Sometimes the truth is dark and ugly and hurts,” he explained. “And that goes with death and everything else. And sometimes it’s not pretty. Some of it’s just plain evil.”

And there’s one raw truth that Breuer found he was able to accept over time.

“Men like that don’t say ‘I love you so much.’ They say, ‘I did the oil in your car.’ That means, ‘G-d damn. I love you.'”

‘There’s $ 20 on your bed means ‘G-d damn. I love you.’ That’s their way.”

“And that’s up to you to figure out what that means.”

Racial Healing, Scandal and Popular Culture

“The stories we tell each other, the gossip we pass, and the media representation of events shape the meaning of our lives.” – -Rachel Godsil, Brianna Goodale, Perception Institute

The story of the brutal and untimely death of civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson of Marion, Alabama, has been referenced in speeches, history books and news articles since that tragic day in 1965. But, when stories are told by a member of that community as in Ava DuVernay’s Selma film portrayal, the power of those authentic stories can touch hearts, open minds, mobilize masses and create opportunities for healing.

In the past two years, some of our nation’s most influential movies and television shows have dealt with racism and bias. From Fruitvale Station to Selma, Scandal to House of Cards, celebrated writers, actors and directors have brought these issues to the mainstream. This has all been accompanied by a drumbeat crescendo of news and analysis that goes beyond specific incidents to examine the roots of these issues and the trends that reinforce them.

For those of us who work for racial equity and healing each day, this is an encouraging trend and an opportunity, especially given Hollywood’s historical lack of support for people of color in front of and behind its cameras. As writers and producers become more diverse, they bring their own experiences, relationships and networks — resulting in well-crafted storylines with recognizable experiences.

These important pop culture moments may seem separate from our day-to-day lives, but stories matter. Research from the Perception Institute says that “culture plays an important role in reinforcing implicit bias, increasing our racial anxieties and undermining conversations about racial equality and opportunity.” And we also know that accurate, honest pop culture narratives can successfully combat stereotypes.

In just the past few weeks, the hit shows Scandal and House of Cards have addressed issues of race, while the 87th Annual Academy Awards became the subject of criticism for failing to include any black actors or directors and few others of color. On Scandal, we witnessed the gripping tale of an unarmed black teen fatally shot by a police officer and a father’s anguish when sitting over his son’s body calling out “He didn’t carry a knife” repeatedly to an ever-growing crowd. The protagonist, Olivia Pope, hired to help diffuse the situation, speaks truth to the police chief when he starts to ready the riot gear: “There is a dead child lying in the street in front of their homes. What would you do if there was a dead child, a child you knew, lying in the street in front of your home? The fact that they stand in groups and say things you do not like does not make them a mob … it makes them Americans.”

In true television fashion, justice comes swiftly when we learn that the knife was planted but not before the officer reveals his biases in a rant: “The truth is, those people in Rosemead have no respect for anything or anyone … Brandon Parker is dead because he didn’t have respect, because those people out there who are chanting and crying over his body, they didn’t teach him the right values.”

Those last few minutes say so much, an officer classifying entire swaths of a community, making a claim that a young child threatened his safety — and having that claim not be questioned, the chief having to be reminded that those gathered and grieving have the right to do so. It’s difficult for me to imagine how any viewer no matter what race would not have been moved by the pain generated in those moments. Importantly, if the media were able to capture the stories of parents, families and communities mourning the needless deaths of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Gardner, Weinjian Lu, Rafael Ramos, Deah Shaddy Barakay, Yusor Mohammad and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha and countless others, change might come about more swiftly.

Yet another timely example was how House of Cards used one its lead characters — the powerful and confident White House Chief of Staff “Remy” — to depict the horror, shame and powerlessness felt by so many men of color in the face of police bias. In a telling scene, Remy was pulled over by local police without apparent cause, arrested and slammed onto the hood of his vehicle just blocks from his post at the White House.

The trend is showing no signs of slowing down. The reactions to the Justice Department’s recent investigations, and the most recent high profile police killing of an unarmed black teen show that these issues will remain a part of the national conversation. Those reactions will continue to shape the stories we tell.

For five years, my colleagues at the W.K Kellogg Foundation, other foundations, our grantees and communities around the nation have generated tangible examples of what change looks like when people have the space to heal and work together for a better world. We embrace those who tell unvarnished stories about the impact of biases, the rich contributions of all people of color, and the benefits of an inclusive playing field. Pop culture is a forum where people are both entertained and enlightened. It simultaneously reflects the culture and pushes it forward. Let’s harness these moments by leveraging your water cooler conversations, social media platforms or mealtime discussions to highlight the impact of our unique stories. We can reimagine and refocus the narrative about people of color in this country, fostering a dialogue built on the equal and inherent value of all people, particularly men, women and children of color.

Healing Pain and Injury

Healing Pain and Injury

Renowned osteopathic physician Dr. Maud Nerman demonstrates how a wide range of symptoms-including unexplained headaches, anxiety, back or neck pain, weight gain, low sex drive, constant fatigue, asthma, chronic pain, or memory loss-can stem from the body’s inability to recover after an injury or trauma. Healing Pain and Injury identifies three key steps to regaining health after injury or trauma: Removing injury shock Restoring motion Controlling inflammation Based on over 30 years of successful treatment of patients with seemingly intractable conditions, Dr. Nerman’s innovative approach enables readers to harness their body’s remarkable healing ability in order to reclaim their health and their lives. When injury or illness befalls you, your body is your greatest ally, constantly fighting to restore balance and health to every part of you. But sometimes it needs the right kind of help. In Healing Pain and Injury, osteopathic physician Dr. Maud Nerman provides a revolutionary approach to understanding and treating pain and injury. Rejecting the view that the patient is a collection of symptoms to be dissected, she illustrates how problems in one area or system of the body can reverberate in a distant system or structure. Dr. Nerman weaves together personal stories from patients, three decades of experience, the healing tradition of osteopathic medicine, and recent scientific discoveries to explain why the body’s interconnectedness is often the key to recovery and how you can understand the clues it provides. The way in which we heal from injury is also critical. The body heroically attempts to recover, but if the healing process is delayed, interrupted, or incomplete, chronic illness can result. Dr. Nerman shares insight into the processes that create chronic illness-how they develop, what makes them persist, and what you can do to reverse them, even months or years later. She explains in detail how the body works to heal itself and offers a multitude of ways that
