He’s Back! Shirtless Tongan Flag Bearer Helps Close Out 2018 Winter Olympics Alongside Lindsey Vonn

Who better to help close out the 2018 Winter Olympics than everyone’s favorite hunky Tongan?

Pita Taufatofua was back —and shirtless — at Sunday’s closing ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea, and posed for photos alongside fellow Olympians including Lindsey Vonn.

During a series of speeches from Olympic officials, several well-known athletes, including Vonn, 33, and Taufatofua, 34, posed for a group photo with Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee.

As the smiling athletes made heart gestures with their hands, Taufatofua (in all his oiled-up glory) dropped to one knee and stretched out his arms. The display marks the Polynesian athlete’s fourth consecutive Olympic ceremony — he has been shirtless and shiny for them all.

On Sunday, he wore a traditional outfit from his nation, just as he did for the opening ceremony more than two weeks earlier, and for the opening of the 2016 Summer Games, as he proudly hoisted his nation’s flag.

“It still feels quite strange actually being here, because it took me 20 years to get to Rio, and just one year to get here,” Taufatofua has said of his Winter Olympics debut. “It’s just an honour. I mean, how many countries in the Pacific get to go to a Winter Games?”

Despite a lackluster performance at his first Winter Games, Taufatofua has proved to be a fan-favorite, prompting praise from Twitter users simply happy to see the athlete in his now-signature ensemble.

He finished in a distant 114th place in the 15km cross-country skiing event, but was praised for his positive attitude after the loss.

“People from the Pacific, these kids who are watching now, they’ll have access to something that they never knew existed before,” he said in a press conference, according to the Huffington Post. “And to me, that’s why I’m here.”

As for Vonn, the famed ski racer won a bronze medal in the downhill alpine event, and has been outspoken about how much her appearance at the Olympics has meant to her.

Megyn Kelly Helps Deserving Mom Learn to Ballroom Dance with the Help of Derek Hough

Megyn Kelly put on her dancing shoes on Tuesday’s Today to help a mother of two learn to tackle one of her biggest fears.

The 46-year-old journalist surprised Today viewer Katie Bly at Just Dance dance studio in Los Angeles, and the two did their best to follow Dancing with the Stars and World of Dance pro Derek Hough‘s intense ballroom dance instructions.

It was all part of the NBC morning show’s “Summer of Yes” series, which encourages viewers to tackle things they’ve always wanted to try.

For Bly, a mother of two from Santa Maria, California, the decision to jump into swing-dancing was an emotional one.

In 2009, her mother Diane, a police officer, was diagnosed with a rare appendix cancer and died. “I didn’t know what kind of torture your body could really put you through,” Bly explained. “That really stuck with me, seeing her like that. Because she was so strong. I’m really glad that I got to be there with her.”

Months later, more tragedy struck when Bly got a call learning her older sister Crystal had been in a car wreck and died. “Since the day I was born, she was really my best friend without a doubt,” Bly said. “There’s always somewhat of a hole that I don’t think is ever going to get filled. It’s just going to get covered up.”

Crystal was 32 at the time — an age Bly recently turned. And it was when Bly blew out her birthday candles that she realized she was going to live her life in memory of those who had lost those before her.

“I want to live every day after 32 to the fullest — not just for me but for , since she didn’t get to,’ Bly said.

She certainly did on Tuesday, twirling around the dance floor.

“Dance is about fun and just expressing yourself and having a good time,” Hough told her the lesson.

Kelly learned a lot during the exercise too.

“While we were spinning and twisting and dipping, there was also smiling — a lot of smiling,” she said. “The courage to dance but also to live well.”

Today airs weekdays (7 a.m. ET) on NBC.

Andi Founder Andrea Weinberg Helps Sanctuary for Families With Donations

IT’S ALL GOOD: In step with its commitment to women and children and its “Be Good to Yourself” brand motto, Andi has donated 300 of its bags to Sanctuary for Families, which helps survivors of domestic violence and gender violence.
Inspired by philanthropic entrepreneurs such as Toms Shoes founder Blake Mycosckie, Andi’s Andrea Weinberg said social responsibility has been part of her game plan from the get-go. “It was our first stab at doing something like this. Stuffing the bags with the volunteers Saturday was probably the best day of my 2017 so far, and I got engaged to the man of my dreams so that’s saying…,” she said.
The consultant Alexandra Ostrow helped Weinberg round up eight volunteers from a Manhattan law firm to load up the bags with BPA-free water bottles, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, lip gloss, lipsticks, deodorant and notebooks with positive affirmations among other items. The Unilever-owned Seventh Generation donated feminine hygiene products.
With distribution in 55 doors such as Equinox, Exhale Spa, Bandier, Carbon38 and Four Seasons gift shops, Andi started indirectly after Weinberg considered the functional shortfallings of umbrellas. Her original plan was to design a waterproof cover for another bag. But the vegan prototype was so “lightweight and

Cat Helps You Get Beach Body Ready

Happy summer, everyone! I know what you’re thinking. “Tater, where have you been?!” Where haven’t I been? It’s summer! I’ve buried my paws in the cool sands of my litterbox, basked in the sun-laden windowsill, run screaming from the flowing waters of the bathroom faucet (Felicia, I am not getting my hair wet!). All in all, it’s been a great summer. But one question I get more often than not is, “Tater, how do you get that flawless beach bod?”

Although I’m a gent who usually plays his cards close to his vest, I decided to help those less fortunate than me and share my top five beach body secrets. Are you ready? Are you ready to be drop-dead “oh my god, who IS that” gorgeous? Because with great power comes great responsibility.

Alright, here we go.

1. Start Juicing!

2015-08-05-1438780534-5543356-FullSizeRender.jpg

While I was up at 4 a.m. the other morning chasing a dust bunny, I saw this amazing infomercial for a juicer. And oh my god, I just knew I needed to get one! The models had such flawless skin and instant six packs I thought, “Why isn’t that me?” I knocked over the telephone receiver (a game I like to play regardless of ordering juicers) and pounced in a bunch of numbers (firetrucks showed up!!!) and in a couple days, my juicer arrived.

Truth be told I haven’t actually juiced anything yet, but the box is the sh*t!

2. Go low-carb.

2015-08-05-1438780587-9701255-IMG_3094.JPG

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I like my beer. But I also know that not everyone can pull off white fur (especially after Labor Day), so I have to be careful of my waist line. It’s okay to treat yourself once in a while. Just make sure you keep up a routine of randomly freaking the eff out and doing wind sprints across the apartment. You’ll be fine.

3. Practice those planks!

2015-08-05-1438780629-9257207-TaterPlank.jpg

I hate plank poses. Seriously. And although curling up in a circular ball is way more comfy, it also makes you look fat! I’m sorry, but someone had to say it. Remember not to let your butt or tail stick up in the air. It’s all about “lines.” Just look how lithe and lean I look! That’s called practice, people. Also, my eyes are bugging out because I can’t do hippie dippie yoga without doing about 20 hits of cat nip. Namaste.

4. Find your light.

2015-08-05-1438780693-7420332-IMG_23371.JPG

Half of looking super good is knowing your angles. I pretty much look amazing whether I’m hiding under a blanket or draped across a computer keyboard while you’re trying to work. But the right lighting can take you from looking like a schlub to cat food model in no time. Three words for you: three-quarter turn! Also, suck in that stomach. We know you’ve been eating treats.

5. Get active outdoors!

2015-08-05-1438780733-6154253-IMG_2506.JPG

“But I’m an indoor cat!” Yeah, you’re an indoor cat with an indoor gut. That’s why you’re reading this article. It’s time to get out and get active!

And if you can’t get out, at least have your friends photoshop you participating in outdoor sports. Here I am sailing on a cat tree gondola in Riviera Maya. Did I really do it? No. Do I really care? No, but I look amazing!

Well, there you have it! Five easy ways to get yourself beach body ready! And should all of the above fail, there is one more trick to looking summer fierce: resting b*tch face. It’s one size fits all.

This Meow-nificent ‘Cat Library’ Helps Shelter Felines Find Forever Homes

You don’t have to be a book-lover to fall in love with this pawsitively furry library.

At the Doña Ana County Government Center in New Mexico, there is a “cat library” where employees can “check out” a feline to play with while at work.

kitties
The “cat library.”

Though the program has been around for about three years, Tiffany Tillison, one of the employees, recently posted a picture of the adorable concept to Reddit, where it quickly went viral with more than 5,500 upvotes as of Friday. And while the cat library seems like a pet lover’s dream-come-true, it also serves a greater purpose: to raise awareness about shelter animals and help get the cats adopted.

“Most animal shelters are out of the way outside of towns (usually outside the city limits), so you have to really be thinking of adopting an animal to take the trouble to go over there,” Tillison told Buzzfeed. “But with this program, hundreds of people come through our lobby every day, so they can’t miss seeing them!”

The county works with the Animal Service Center of the Mesila Valley to get the cats, and according to the shelter’s director, Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock, using the library is simple. Her shelter brings kittens to hang out in “kitty kondo” — the office’s cat play area — and employees can then take a cat back to their desks to play with and return them once they’re finished. The shelter director says that the program benefits both the cats, some of which have special needs, and the workers.

“[The kittens] run around and they get socialized,” Vesco-Mock says. “And it helps reduce stress in the office and in the cubicles.”

Many of the kittens get adopted by employees who just can’t get enough of the little furballs. When all the cats get forever homes, the shelter sends down a new crop of furry friends. About 100 felines have found new families because of the program, Vesco-Mock said.

Meow, can we paw-lease get one of those at our office?!

Herd Helps Collapsed Baby Elephant, Proves You Get By With A Little Help From Your Friends

When the going gets rough, friends and family always have your back — take it from this baby elephant.

A video uploaded to YouTube captures an elephant calf collapsing on the road in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, according to the clip’s description. But fear not, because the little one’s herd comes to help it back up and escort it back to safety.

Watch at the 0:21 mark as a larger elephant comes to tend to the calf. Other elephants join and nudge the little guy on the ground. Finally, at the 1:43 mark, the baby begins to stand up with the help of another larger elephant.

The herd must’ve taken Lilo’s words to heart — “‘Ohana’ means ‘family’ and ‘family’ means nobody gets left behind.”

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Rapper Layzie Bone of the Grammy Award-winning group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony helped a driver who went into diabetic shock and nearly ran into the performer’s vehicle in Wyoming.

Casper news station KCWY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1R28xfi ) that Steven “Layzie Bone” Howse was heading to a concert in Riverton on Saturday to promote his new album “Perfect Timing” when he saw a car swerving across the roadway. It spun to a stop in front of the rapper’s vehicle. ‘House’ Helps Doctor Solve Real-Life Medical Mystery

LONDON (AP) — If you’re unlucky enough to be stricken with a rare medical condition, you’d better hope your doctor watches the right television show.

That was the lesson for one German man with severe heart failure and a puzzling mix of symptoms including fever, blindness, deafness and enlarged lymph nodes, which baffled doctors for months. The 55-year-old man was diagnosed only when he was referred to Dr. Juergen Schaefer, a fan of the U.S. television medical drama, “House.”

“After five minutes, I knew what was wrong,” said Schaefer, who works at the Center for Undiagnosed Diseases in Marburg, north of Frankfurt.

He said the man’s symptoms matched up almost perfectly with a patient on an episode in which the fictional Dr. Gregory House, played by British actor Hugh Laurie, identified cobalt poisoning as the cause. The series ended in 2012 after an eight-year run.

Schaefer regularly uses the television series to teach medical students. When he saw the patient with heart failure in May 2012, he had recently prepared a lecture on the show’s cobalt poisoning case, where House’s future mother-in-law falls ill after receiving a faulty metal hip.

Though the German patient’s previous doctors thought he needed a heart transplant, Schaefer and colleagues immediately tested his cobalt levels after he complained his problems started after his last operation to replace a broken ceramic hip.

Schaefer said some small fragments of the ceramic hip remained and were grinding into the metal replacement, which leaked cobalt and chromium into the patient’s bloodstream. Once the hip was replaced, the patient’s heart got better and his other symptoms improved.

Schaefer and colleagues wrote about their experience in a case report published online Friday in the journal, Lancet. The patient wasn’t identified.

“We would have diagnosed this even without Dr. House,” Schaefer said. “You could have also typed his symptoms into Google and gotten the diagnosis.”

He said doctors should be aware of possible cobalt poisoning in patients with metal hip replacements.

While Schaefer said he is sometimes referred to as the German Dr. House, he isn’t sure the nickname is a compliment. The television doctor was known as much for his rude, abrasive manner as for his expertise in diagnosing rare ailments.

“I would have fired this guy after the first three episodes,” Schaefer said. Still, he said the fictional doctor’s appalling bedside manner was ultimately outweighed by his unparalleled diagnostic skills.

“It’s important to be nice, but you don’t get patients healthy just by being nice.”
