Fashion Group International Reveals Rising Star Awards Honorees; Tommy Hilfiger to Give Keynote

This year’s finalists for the Fashion Group International Rising Star Awards will have a chance to celebrate with their competitors at a cocktail party at the Tory Sport store on Fifth Avenue Jan. 16.
The main event will be held Jan. 24 at Cipriani 42nd Street with Tommy Hilfiger sharing his wisdom in the keynote address. His wife, Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, will be on hand to present the Accessories award. Behno’s Shivam Punjya, Bobby Roaché, Genevieve Rose Atelier’s Genevieve Foddy, Jibs Life’s Natalie Kathleen, Lelet NY’s Sara Bieler Sasson and Lutz Morris’ Tina Lutz Morris will be vying for this year’s prize.
In the Fine Jewelry category, Amanda Pearl’s Amanda Pearl Brotman, Emmanuel Tarpin, Foundrae’s Beth Bugdaycay, Misahara Jewelry’s Lepa Galeb-Roskopp and Neha Dani Jewelry’s Neha Dani are the finalists. Alexandra Mor will present to the winner.
Phillip Lim will hand over the Womenswear award. Finalists include Cristina Ottaviano, Haus Von M’s Ludi Wang, Julianna Bass, Land of Distraction’s Danita Short and Christian Juul Nielsen, Laurence & Chico’s Laurence Li and Chico Wang, Sophia Is’ Sophia Tezel-Tzelepis and Victoria Hayes. Tommy Hilfiger, Lewis Hamilton Team for Capsule Collection

Lewis Hamilton, British Formula One racing driver and four-time Formula One World Champion, is gearing up to introduce a men’s capsule collection in collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger. They will introduce the first Tommy x Lewis collection for fall retailing.
The news comes a month after Hamilton was named a global brand ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger Men’s, starting this spring, as reported. Hilfiger is owned by PVH Corp.
Hamilton revealed the collection logo to fans at an exclusive event in Shanghai on Wednesday, putting his own stamp on the Tommy Hilfiger flag. The Tommy x Lewis flag was unveiled in an art installation that shared the inspirations behind the design, including street art influences and projections of Hamilton’s own body art. The logo is a take on Hilfiger’s signature flag trademark positioned behind Hamilton’s initials in navy, reflecting the brand’s colors and the font used in the British Formula One racer’s own tattoos.
The collection will be revealed to editors on May 7.
As reported, Hamilton was named the face of Hilfiger men’s, which includes the Collection and Tailored lines as well as underwear and swimwear. The appointment is aimed at driving the growth of Hilfiger men’s worldwide and bringing the next generation of fans

Rich Hilfiger Does Tango Hotel Brand

Rich Hilfiger, a recording artist and Tommy Hilfiger’s son, has caught the apparel bug.
Joining forces with Al-Baseer Holly (Bonic), a rapper turned visual artist, and pro skateboarder Stevie Williams, the longtime friends have launched a lifestyle brand built on “permanent vacation,” an ideal all three founders not only promote but live their lives by.
Named Tango Hotel, the Los Angeles company had a quiet launch last July in Miami (without any product to speak of), where it partnered with Agenda to host the trade show’s kickoff event at Raleigh Hotel, owned by Tommy Hilfiger, with a poolside performance by Travis Scott.
Tango Hotel was launched in select Macy’s stores across the country in June, with a collection of men’s designer socks and briefs featuring original artwork from both Rich Hilfiger and Holly.  It was also shipped to specialty boutiques and is being sold at Tangohotelbrand.com with prices starting at $ 12 for socks and $ 25 for briefs.

New York & Co., Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Hudson’s Fabletics Tops ThredUP’s ‘Purge Surge’ List

REPURPOSE, REUSE: With consumers showing more interest in upcycling, recycling, sustainability and the sharing economy, many are weeding out their closets to resell, donate or swap apparel with someone who will wear it.
ThredUp, the e-tailer that sells secondhand women’s and children’s apparel, has tallied its 2016 figures to rank the brands that saw the strongest “purge surge.”
In what the company refers to as the biggest “purge surge,” New York & Co. ranked first with a 472 percent increase followed by Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Hudson’s Fabletics, Liz Lange Maternity and GAP Fit respectively. The second half of the Top 10 list were made up by Lou & Grey, Ivanka Trump, Madewell, Active by Old Navy and Vera Bradley.
In terms of trends, ThredUp visitors were eager to part with chambray items, which had a 763 percent purge increase, anything with glitter at 446 percent and maxidresses at 277 percent. Many users also packed up their pencil skirts and high-low items which ranked fourth and fifth in terms of the Most Purged Styles list.

Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger took the top three spots in digital engagement on their respective show days, according to research by ListenFirst Media.
ListenFirst tracks digital engagement data from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr, Wikipedia and Google + on the designers’ respective show days.
Beckham, who showed Feb. 12, ranked first with 1.5 million engagements that day, more than the next three top ranking fashion brands combined. The success on Beckham’s show on social is attributed to her content strategy — posting more content on Feb. 12 than any other New York Fashion Week brand, and having the No. 1 most popular posts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, according to ListenFirst.
Kors, which showed at Spring Studios on Feb. 15, came in second place, with 967.9 million digital engagements. While 90 percent of those engagements were earned on Instagram, the brand dominated multiple channels relative to his NYFW cohorts that day, driving 21 percent of all engagements earned by the set on Feb. 15 and posting the day’s most engaging NYFW related posts across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. If the October preview in Paris for Tommy Hilfiger’s spring collection didn’t inspire buyers and editors to put on a bikini or a boho dress and run out to the beach, then his second see-now-buy-now show, held steps from the ocean in Venice Beach, Calif., certainly should have.
The massive production featured 55 looks, a combination of Hilfiger Collection and the popular Tommy x Gigi capsule that Hilfiger co-designs with his brand ambassador Gigi Hadid.
The inspiration for the collection was California, with a loose “Summer of Love” theme that went along with the mini music festival that Hilfiger created along the iconic strip of sand, Still, the designer said his muse was Hadid. “It’s really all about Gigi. It’s about Southern California — sporty, casual, wearable, accessible and fun.”
One didn’t need the program notes to know that Hilfiger’s main references were music and Americana — they have been from the get-go in the Seventies — but the clothes also felt fresh and modern, no small thanks to Hadid, who both opened and closed the show.

PVH Moving Tommy Hilfiger Tailored License to Peerless

PVH Corp. is moving its Tommy Hilfiger men’s tailored business in North America to Peerless Clothing International next year.
The business is currently run by Marcraft Clothes Inc.
The move consolidates all of PVH’s men’s tailored businesses under Peerless, which will hold all of lines under licenses that run at least through 2022.
“We have had a long-standing and successful relationship with Peerless, which has been the licensee for our Calvin Klein, Van Heusen and Izod brands for several years,” said Emanuel Chirico, PVH’s chairman and chief executive officer. “It best serves the needs of our company and brands to have all of the men’s tailored businesses under the direction of one partner.”
Ronny Wurtzburger, Peerless’ president, said Hilfiger’s “rich American heritage and preppy-with-a-twist designs will be a great addition to our offerings under PVH’s brands and will allow us to better serve all of PVH’s businesses and consumer tastes.”

Andy Hilfiger, Bethel Woods Center Team Up for Fashion Fundraising

WOODSTOCK REVISITED: Andy Hilfiger has teamed up with Bethel Woods Center for the Arts for a fundraising and fashion event. He will stage Festival Fashion: Bellbottoms and Butterfly Wings, a runway show featuring festival-inspired clothing from his personal collection. It will be held in the Event Gallery at Bethel Woods on April 25. The show will highlight looks from iconic Sixties ensembles to contemporary electronic music festival designs.

“Over my four decades in music and fashion, I have styled everyone from The Ramones to ZZ Top, Kid Rock to Michael Jackson, and collected countless vintage looks, including pieces worn by some of the world’s biggest stars,” said Hilfiger. “This exhibition is an opportunity to share my collection with the world, in a place that continues to influence fashion in ways that designers can only dream of.”

The evening, which costs $ 50, includes music, light fare, beer and wine, and culminates with a fashion show. All proceeds from the event will benefit Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Bethel Woods is located on the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, which is home to Mysteryland, the U.S. version of the world’s longest running electronic music festival.
