Smith Optics Introduce Smart Ski Goggles Through Rental Program

SMITH SKIS SMART: Snowboarders and skiers bound for Ski amadé resorts can measure their speed and check the latest slope conditions thanks to new smart ski goggles from Smith Optics.
With the help of Evolaris, an app has been developed to help winter enthusiasts navigate the 760 trails at what is Austria’s largest skiing resource. Ski amadé has five ski resorts stretching across 25 villages which visitors traverse with the help of 270 lifts. By activating the smart ski goggles, athletes will see live data in the lower right-hand corner of their goggles that can direct them to their preferred mountain lodges, lifts, fun parks or restaurants. They can also keep an eye on speed, trail conditions and weather forecasts.
Visitors can rent the Smith I/O Recon at all 25 Intersport shops in Ski amadé for 19 euros a day. The goggles also indicate the distance and directions to destinations at the various resorts. A Man’s World: Mr Porter Set to Introduce Mr P

LONDON — There’s a new man at Mr Porter known as Mr P, a collection of essentials and trend-led seasonal pieces designed, sourced, manufactured and distributed exclusively by the men’s fashion site.
The collection will launch on Nov. 7 and offer more than 50 pieces, a mix of wardrobe building blocks and five themed capsule collections that are meant to complement — rather than compete with — the site’s 400-plus brands.
In an exclusive interview, Mr Porter’s managing director Toby Bateman said the Mr P product has been engineered to work as an overarching wardrobe.
“Men’s brands tend to either be casual or formal or technical, but the reality is that men don’t necessarily dress head-to-toe in one particular way. We wanted to create a brand that in one aesthetic could bring casual, smart and technical together. Creatively, this is what we’re trying to achieve.”
Essentials, including a white T-shirt, 15-gauge cashmere knitwear and water-resistant travel blazers, will be carried year-round, while the first capsule will be based around Lucian Freud and his arty London friends from the Fifties.
The capsule collections will drop every few months, and the Lucian Freud-themed one features a Breton long-sleeve T-shirt for 95 pounds, a black doubled-breasted corduroy jacket

Herschel Supply Co. is ready to grow beyond bags and accessories.
The Vancouver-based brand, which was founded by brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack in 2009, will launch a men’s and women’s outerwear collection that will be available in June.
According to Lyndon, the outerwear line, like the company’s bags, is meant to help customers on their journeys, whether that’s their commute to work, trip to the gym or traveling around the world.
“We thought there was a white space in the market between high fashion and utility in the bag space and now we want to bring that same philosophy to outerwear,” said Lyndon.
uThe line includes the Voyage assortment, which consists of three men’s styles and two women’s styles created for the wind; and the Forecast lineup, which includes two men’s styles and two women’s styles designed for the rain. The Voyage collection includes lightweight, packable pieces such as a nylon coach jacket, anorak and poncho, while the Forecast lineup consists of more durable pieces including a hooded coach jacket and a parka. Each style comes in 10 different colorways. The line is priced from $ 69 to $ 100 and has already been picked up by retailers including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and Urban Outfitters. A Keith

La Perla to Create In-House Academy, Introduce Welfare Program

Italian luxury underwear label La Perla will open an in-house academy and introduce a series of benefits aimed at developing the business and enhancing the value of its employees. These initiatives have been included in the renovated company agreement inked with the trade unions on Dec. 22 at the firm’s headquarters in Bologna, Italy.
Called “Academy La Perla,” the permanent professional training program will be launched starting in 2017 to increase the business’ know-how, as well as integrate a new generation of workers in the firm. The training program will provide them with the technical knowledge requested for several jobs, such as designing, prototyping and tailoring. Agreements with local schools will further accelerate the recruitment process while the know-how will be transmitted to the young generation by senior employees, who will also be offered reductions of work time once closer to retirement age.
As part of the new work contract, a health-care policy, which will cost La Perla a maximum sum of 250 euros, or $ 261 at current exchange, for each worker, will be introduced March 1.
Also starting next year, a monetary bonus is expected to be established as a prize for each employee. If La Perla’s net sales reach the break-even point, each worker will receive 1,000 euros, or $ 1,045, as reward. The sum can reach a maximum of

Virgil Abloh to Introduce Furniture Designs at Art Basel Miami Beach

Off-White founder Virgil Abloh has made diagonal lines the signature imprint on sneakers, camouflage jackets, T-shirts and a number of other fashion items designed for his high-end streetwear label. Now he’s ready to emphasize clean lines in his furniture collection, which will be introduced at Art Basel Miami Beach.
Trading cotton and leather for more durable materials such as steel, stone and wood, Abloh is readying the debut of tables, chairs and credenzas at the influential art fair. While the medium changes, the theory applied toward design remains the same.
“My brand was always holistic,” Abloh said on the phone three days before the show was scheduled to open to the public on  Dec. 1. “Noticing the design in everyday is a large part of my ethos.”
Abloh’s appreciation of clean design is informed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who set the academic curriculum and modern aesthetic for the architecture program that he attended at Illinois Institute of Technology. Beyond studying the grid on which van der Rohe built his movement in Chicago, Abloh said, “I am very much a student of Tom Sachs or [Marcel] Duchamp in terms of how I view art and modern art and contemporary art.
