Jason Wu, John Varvatos, Isabel and Ruben Toledo to Salute FGI’s Rising Stars

NEW YORK — Designer John Varvatos is to deliver the keynote address at the Fashion Group International’s 21st Annual Rising Star Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street on Jan. 25.
The on-the-rise contenders also will get some words of wisdom from previous winners Jason Wu and the husband-and-wife team Isabel and Ruben Toledo. In addition to the eight categories, this year’s Hilldun Business Innovation Award will also be presented at the luncheon. Gary Wassner will do the honors for the factoring and finance company, which along with Hearst Magazines and Saks Fifth Avenue is among the sponsors of this year’s Rising Star Awards.
Having known what it’s like to be a winner (and once served as the event’s keynote speaker), Wu will give the Womenswear award. The competitive field includes Asher Levine, Chris Gelinas, Jeffrey Dodd, Romeo Hunte, Cristina Ottaviano, J. Dosi’s Jenna Marie Piantedosi and Tabula Rasa’s Emily Diamandis.
Todd Snyder will hand the Menswear award to one of three candidates: Dyne’s Christopher Bevans, Krammer & Stoudt’s Mike Rubin or Private Policy’s Haoran Li and Siying Qu.
Bergdorf Goodman’s Kelley Miller Doherty will award the Fine Jewelry prize to one of the following finalists: 64 Facets’ Gourav Soni, Anna Karlin Fine Jewelry’s Anna Karlin,

Isabel Marant RTW Spring 2018

Now the cool boys in Isabel Marant’s entourage can rest easy: The French designer has finally come through with men’s wear, and it’s here to stay. “I gave in to popular demand,” she admitted backstage, saying the campaign had been going on since her popular H&M hookup four years ago. The guys were offered thick gauge knits that poured over their shoulders like treacle, Windbreakers and toothsome trackpants, with rope flip-flops or slides on the feet.
But back to the girls. The show started with crisp white: frilled shirts; ingénue broderie anglaise minidresses; denim with circular patterns piercing the legs; a double-breasted jacket tucked into trousers that were loose on the thigh and tight at the ankle. Sporty details started to crop up.
By midway point, the collection hit its stride, brash colors and metallic materials bringing a sporty-glam mien: boiler suits rolled down to reveal swimwear; trackpants were cut from shimmery florals and paired with voluminous tops; lightweight blousons could pass for shirtdresses, and high-cut briefs had the aplomb of daring shorts. Whenever she went too high on the leg and too voluminous on the sleeve, it didn’t quite work, like wearing stilettos to the beach. Performance water sports details —

Tejen Jewelry, Urban Zen Alums Mark Kroeker and Isabel Encinias Grow Distribution, Designs

Two of Donna Karan’s “babies” are growing up. Mark Kroeker, who helped launch Karan’s Urban Zen line and served as its design director, and Isabel Encinias, who was design director of jewelry at both Donna Karan and Urban Zen and director of the Haiti Artisan Project, are slowly growing their fine jewelry line Tejen.
After debuting the brand in January and showing it at the Couture jewelry show in Las Vegas in June, the duo is expanding their wholesale presence to Browns in London, Tiny Jewel Box in Washington, D.C., and Grange Hall in Dallas. The line will also sell in the forthcoming boutique Artoriz in Shanghai, and possibly at Maxfield in Los Angeles.

Tejen’s diamond and 18-karat yellow gold earrings.

Made from 18-karat Fairmined gold from South America and white diamonds certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council and The Kimberley Process, the line is based on ancient shapes — Tejen means obelisk in Egyptian — and motifs. The signature diamond setting is an inverted princess cut surrounded by a cage of baguettes. Retail prices for the core collection range from $ 715 for geometric gold studs to $ 8,455 for a gold and diamond choker. The most popular piece in the collection is a pair of
