Ralph Lauren’s French Honor Postponed Due to Protests

RAIN CHECK: The ripples of France’s antigovernment protests have reached across the Atlantic.
Ralph Lauren was due to be decorated as an Officer of the Legion of Honor by French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, but the ceremony has been postponed until early next year due to the tense political climate, as the government seeks to defuse several weeks of violent protests over declining living standards.
The brand sent out a brief advisory to guests, saying it would advise them of the new date in due course. Lauren is expected to be the guest of honor at a gala dinner at the Château de Versailles on Tuesday held by the French-American Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of his brand.
Lauren was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor by France in 2010 in recognition of his contributions as a designer, business leader and philanthropist.
France faces “serious and ongoing” economic fallout after a third weekend of antigovernment protests led to scenes of violence and ransacking not seen since the May 1968 student riots, according to officials.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said mass retailers have seen a 15 percent to 25 percent cumulative drop in sales due to the ongoing protests by demonstrators in

Château de Versailles Dinner to Honor Ralph Lauren’s 50th

FASHION ROYALTY: It’s not just Stateside that the celebrations for Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary are in full swing this year. On Dec. 4, The French-American Foundation will host a gala dinner in his honor — at the Château de Versailles, no less. Lauren will be celebrated for his “unparalleled impact on the fashion world for 50 years,” states the invitation to the event, hosted under the patronage of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Lauren held his anniversary fashion show and dinner in Central Park during New York Fashion Week earlier this month. Other events and accolades for his milestone year include receiving the first CFDA Members Salute by fellow American designers, including Thom Browne, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu and Donna Karan, commemorating his career, at the CFDA Awards in June, while Rizzoli published a book done in partnership with WWD, titled “WWD: Fifty Years of Ralph Lauren,” a 192-page tome of five decades of archival stories, photos and illustrations.

Jessica Biel, Deepika Padukone Take in Ralph Lauren’s Fall Show

On Wednesday evening inside the Ralph Lauren mansion, it was impossible to not stop and smell the flowers. The company had covered the walls of its two-floor retail space with orchids, and the floral scent lingered as guests trickled in for the designer’s fall show.
“My girlfriends and I keep saying someone should be getting married in here, and then someone should be doing something else fabulous in here,” Jessica Biel remarked as she meandered to her seat on the second floor. “I feel like walking into a space like this, you are immediately transported to some kind of fantasy forest, or fairy wonderland. The show has already started for me,” she continued. “We’re not in New York in February right now.”
Emmy Rossum was taking a closer look at the walls of greenery. “Did you see the robotic butterflies? If you watch them very carefully, they move,” she said, pointing out one nestled within the foliage that did indeed, upon closer inspection, flutter its wings. “I actually live in the neighborhood, so it worked out really, really well,” Rossum explained of her evening appearance at the mansion. She wasn’t there only for the clothes. “I don’t treat it as scouting for

Ralph Lauren’s PoloTech Smart Shirt Is Here

It’s been a year since Ralph Lauren entered the wearable tech game, introducing its PoloTech “smart shirt” for men at the 2014 U.S. Open, where ball boys and Marcos Giron, the NCAA singles champion, test-drove the first iteration.
Now PoloTech is ready for market, available online and in stores on Aug. 27, after a year of tweaking the prototype and adding features, including a fancy new fitness app. The shirt retails for $ 295.
David Lauren, executive vice president of global advertising, marketing and corporate communications, was confident in the product’s innovation during a Wednesday morning demo of the smart shirt and app with a fleet of trainers at Equinox in Midtown Manhattan. “This is the most accurate, best wearable technology on the market right now,” said Lauren, noting that it took the Ralph Lauren company two years to develop the smart shirt 1.0 with its in-house innovation lab and proprietary technology from Canadian-based OmSignal.
Style-wise the shirt is intentionally simple and straightforward: a black second-skin stretch T-shirt with yellow Polo Pony. “Our goal is to make it accessible, so customers get it and aren’t scared of the technology,” said Lauren. “It’s like Henry Ford said, ‘Give me any color as long as it’s
