Corneliani to Focus on Americas, Strengthens Management Team

MILAN — Corneliani is focusing on the Americas, building its executive management team to further develop business in the region.
The Italian men’s wear company has tapped Maurizio Mantovani as its Americas chief executive officer, and he is charged with boosting the brand’s wholesale network and its retail business. He reports to Corneliani ceo Paolo Roviera. Most recently, Mantovani was senior vice president of operations and outlets at Ermenegildo Zegna in New York, leveraging 20 years of experience at the men’s wear group holding different roles in the North American division. Roviera, who joined Corneliani from Pal Zileri in September, is also a Zegna alum.
Corneliani has also appointed Sean Hieter senior vice president of sales. Hieter was previously vice president of Robert Graham Designs. His strong  relations with retailers will be key in growing the brand’s business through department stores and high-end specialty stores, the company said.
“North America accounts for less than 10 percent of sales and it is only a wholesale business,” Roviera said. “This can’t be. We aim for the region to represent more than 20 percent of total.”
Roviera said a web of relations already stands with “key players,” from Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to Nordstrom, but that

Indochino Bolsters Management Team

Indochino, a Vancouver-based omnichannel men’s wear brand, has beefed up its management team.
The company has brought Randy Binning on board as vice president of retail operations and promoted Dean Handspiker to vice president of design, product and showroom development.
Binning has spent the last 15 years at Guess Inc., where he has served as both director of West Coast North America and then director of stores for Canada. At Indochino, he will be charged with leading a consistent customer experience across all locations and work to ensure continued profitability as the company expands.
Handspiker will be responsible for the overall look and vision of the Indochino products and will oversee the seasonal design of the brand’s suits, shirts and accessories. He will also work to ensure a consistent message in each of the company’s showrooms.
“Building a world-class team of dedicated, highly skilled and forward-thinking people has been a top priority for us in the past couple of years and we are thrilled to welcome Dean and Randy to our senior management team simultaneously,” said Drew Green, chief executive officer.
In April, Indochino opened three showrooms in Western Canada, bringing the total to 13. There are also five additional showrooms planned for the U.S.

Forall Builds Management

MILAN — Forall SpA is beefing up its executive ranks. Maurizio Beffa was appointed chief commercial officer of the Italian men’s wear group, while Bryan La Vine was tapped as managing director of Forall USA.
Beffa is in charge of overseeing the wholesale and retail divisions of the Pal Zileri brand and to expand that business globally. Most recently, Beffa held strategic commercial retail and wholesale posts at Belstaff and Tod’s Group.
La Vine is joining Forall’s New York subsidiary from Bergdorf Goodman to help boost the U.S. market, which is considered key for the growth of the company. He reports to Beffa.
Before Bergdorf Goodman, La Vine was a top-level executive at Amazon.com and Barneys New York.
The two appointments reflect a new path charted by Forall owner Mayhoola Group to develop its business around the world. Last October, Giovanni Mannucci joined as chief executive officer from Boglioli, succeeding Paolo Roviera, who went to head Corneliani.
In July last year, Mayhoola took full control of Pal Zileri through the acquisition of 100 percent of parent company Forall Confezioni SpA, representing the fund’s commitment to expand the brand in the long-term.
The investment vehicle backed by a private investor group from Qatar first took a 65 percent

A Very Short, Fairly Interesting and Reasonably Cheap Book about Management Research

Emma Bell and Richard Thorpe are engaging companions for this journey into the complex world of management research. They provide a stimulating and critical overview of the key theoretical debates on research paradigms and methodologies and relate them to the day to day practice of the research, demystifying the process and providing invaluable insights into the politics and practice of research. Unlike most books about management research, this little book does not present the process as logical, rational and predictable. Instead, it explores the messy and unpredictable nature of management research and the fascinating reasons behind this. In doing so, it will give you the confidence and understanding to experiment and improvise while carrying out your research. Incorporating research tales from within the workplace, Bell and Thorpe have triumphed in bringing you a fun and thought-provoking discourse on management research that you will treasure. An electronic inspection copy is available for instructors. SAGE’s A Very Short, Fairly Interesting and Reasonably Cheap Book About series shies away from the sterility of conventional textbooks, offering students an informal and accessible overview of the field that questions and challenges the traditional literature. British Lifestyle Label Toast Refreshes Its Design Aesthetic Under New Management

REMAKING TOAST: The British label Toast is refreshing its design aesthetic, and looking to new markets outside the U.K., where it has 11 shops.
Launched in the Nineties as a catalogue company by husband-and-wife team Jessica and James Seaton, Toast offers women’s and men’s wear, footwear and items for the home.
Last month, the company named Suzie de Rohan Willner, formerly chief executive officer of FitFlop Ltd., to the post of chief executive officer and Laura Shippey, previously senior designer at Margaret Howell and J. Crew, as head of design.
“I guess Jamie and I would say that we didn’t feel we were really doing the job that we wanted to do,” said Jessica Seaton. “I think Suzie is very aligned with us, and now we feel like we can capitalize on the potential. We’ve had a roller-coaster year of managing and thrashing out what exactly we wanted, and it was thoughtfulness, in the products, and how we deal with people and the world.”
Spring 2016 is the brand’s transitional collection, and the first under the new design team. The aesthetic is based around textiles and is filled with androgynous silhouettes that are meant to be functional, as in an olive green trench that’s based

Wildlife In Airport Environments: Preventing Animal-aircraft Collisions Through Science-based Management

Wildlife In Airport Environments: Preventing Animal-aircraft Collisions Through Science-based Management

The pilot watches the instrument panel and prepares for touchdown-a routine landing until a burst of birds, a coyote, or a herd of deer crosses the runway! Every year, pilots experience this tension and many aircraft come into direct contact with birds and other wildlife, resulting in more than one billion dollars in damage annually. The United States Federal Aviation Administration has recorded a rise in these incidents over the past decade due to the combined effects of more reporting, rebounding wildlife populations, and an increased number of flights. Wildlife in Airport Environments tackles the issue of what to do about encounters with wildlife in and around airports-from rural, small-craft airparks to major international hubs. Whether the problem is birds or bats in the flight path or a moose on the runway, the authors provide a thorough overview of the science behind wildlife management at airports. This well-written, carefully documented volume presents a clear synthesis for researchers, wildlife managers, and airport professionals. The book belongs in the hands of all those charged with minimizing the risks that wildlife pose to air travel. Wildlife in Airport Environments is the first book in the series Wildlife Management and Conservation and is published in association with The Wildlife Society.ContributorsMichael L. Fighting Poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa: the Multiple Roles of Legumes in Integrated Soil Fertility Management

Fighting Poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa: the Multiple Roles of Legumes in Integrated Soil Fertility Management

Legumes play an important role in the cropping systems of sub Saharan Africa (SSA). Legumes are an important source of nutrition to both humans and livestock by providing the much needed protein, minerals, fibre and vitamins. The sale of legumes seed, leaves and fibre generates income for the marginalized communities especially women. Cultivation of legumes is essential for the regeneration of nutrient-deficient soils. By biologically fixing nitrogen (BNF) in the soil, legumes provide a relatively low-cost method of replacing otherwise expensive inorganic nitrogen in the soil. This enhances soil fertility and boosts subsequent cereal crop yields. Production of legumes in SSA is however; hampered by a number of constraints among them low and declining soil fertility, low soil pH, high salinity, drought and flooding, poor access to improved germplasm, diseases, pests and weeds. Farmers need to learn how to overcome these constraints if the full benefits of legumes are to be gained. This book presents a synthesis of research work on legumes and draws attention to the importance of legumes in integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) and poverty alleviation in SSA.

Brand Management Concept for a Delivery Service

Brand Management Concept for a Delivery Service

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL – Marketing, Unternehmenskommunikation, CRM, Marktforschung, Social Media, Note: 1,0, Veranstaltung: Strategic Brand Management, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper conveys the branding process of a food delivery service based in the city of Barcelona; named Barcelona Eats (BE). Core of the business is being the link between restaurants who did not have a delivery service before and hungry customers, who can place their order on BE s website. The first chapter provides a detailed business description and analyses the competitive situation of delivery services in Barcelona. In addition the brand associations are visually explained by using hierarchical value mapping. As there is now a general understanding for the brand and its values, the second chapter relates to the marketing program of BE. First, the key brand elements are defined: the brand name, the URL and the logo. Subsequently the target markets are outlined and implications for customer care are specified. Given the fact that BE will have to advertise in two ways, towards restaurant owners (B2B) and targeting the end consumer (B2C), the following chapter addresses the marketing measures for those two groups and shows where individuals may be reached with which marketing tool. Lastly, BE s pricing concept will be introduced and brief information on other brand-related associations is provided. The third chapter relates to the strategic success of the brand. The use of brand audit to steadily reassess the brands performance and customer perception is explained; furthermore the theory is linked with practical implications. Finally, suggestions for business expansion are described, namely internal diversification or external growth, first to other cities within Spain, then to other European countries.

Architecture and Patterns for IT Service Management, Resource Planning, and Governance: Making Shoes for the Cobbler’s Children: Making Shoes for the Cobbler’s Children

How would you feel if you visited your financial planner’s office and saw past-due credit card notices on their desk? Would you trust an auto mechanic whose car backfires and produces black smoke? A dentist with bad teeth? A banker in shabby clothes? An interior designer whose offices are a shambles? This is the position of the IT capability in many large organizations. The designated custodian of critical business processes and data does not manage its own processes and data reliably. A response in the form of Enterprise Resource Planning for Information Technology is emerging from major companies, research firms, and vendors; they are labeling these offerings “ERP for IT,” “IT Resource Planning,? and related terms. This groundbreaking, practitioner-authored book provides an independent examination of and response to these developments. An analysis of the large scale IT capability, with specific attention to business processes, structured data, and enabling systems, it is essentially a comprehensive systems architecture, not for the business capabilities IT supports, but for IT itself. Features The book presents on-the-ground coverage of enabling IT governance in architectural detail, which you can use to define a strategy and start executing. It fills the gap between high-level guidance on IT governance, and detailed discussions about specific vendor technologies. It is a next-step book that answers the question: OK, we need to improve the way we run IT – now what? It does this through: * A unique value chain approach to integrating the COBIT, ITIL, and CMM frameworks into a coherent, unified whole * A field-tested, detailed conceptual information model with definitions and usage scenarios, mapped to both the process and system architectures * Analysis of current system types in the IT governance and enablement domains: integration opportunities, challenges, and evolutionary trends * Patterns for integrating the process, data, and systems views to support sp
