Harry Winston Splashes Record $50.4 Million on Pink Diamond

THINK PINK: Five minutes of spirited bidding. That’s all it took for the newly named Winston Pink Legacy to go under the hammer for 50.4 million Swiss francs, or $ 50 million, on Tuesday at the Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale, setting a world record for the price paid per carat for a pink diamond at auction.
Harry Winston was behind the winning bid. The stone will enter the brand’s legacy collection, which began with the acquisition of the 101-carat, D flawless, Winston Legacy diamond at Christie’s in 2013, Swatch Group chairwoman and Harry Winston chief executive officer Nayla Hayek said in a statement.
The Winston Pink Legacy, a fancy vivid pink rectangular-cut diamond of 18.96 carats representing the most expensive pink diamond ever sold at Christie’s, hailed from the collection of former De Beers owner, the Oppenheimer family.
More than 30,000 people visited the auction house’s sale previews in London, Hong Kong and New York to get a glimpse of the stone. “This exceptional diamond captured the imagination of international collectors across the globe,” said Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International head of jewelry.
Also commenting on the sale, Eddie LeVian, ceo of jeweler Le Vian, a specialist in chocolate diamonds sourced from the same soon-to-close

China’s Fan Bingbing Breaks Silence After Being Fined $70 Million for Tax Evasion

Fan Bingbing, one of China’s most popular actresses, has not been seen since in months — but she has broken her silence to address her massive tax evasion fines.

Fan was fined by Chinese tax authorities, Xinhua first reported. According to Bloomberg, Fan and her companies were fined 884 million yuan, which is equivalent to $ 129 million. Fan is responsible for $ 70 million of the fines.

Fan will not be charged if she pays back the money within a time limit, The Hollywood Reporter said that Xinhua reported. A person from her company, however, is reportedly in custody.

Fan made a statement about her situation on Weibo. She started, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Recently I have been enduring an unprecedented amount of pain, undergoing deep self-reflection and introspection. I am deeply ashamed and feel guilty for what I have done, and I offer my sincere apologies to everyone.”

The X-Men actress said, “I have come to realize that, as a public figure, I should have observed the law, setting a good example for society and the entertainment industry. I shouldn’t have lost the ability to control myself in the face of economic interests, allowing myself to break the law.”

Fan noted that she committed tax evasion “by taking advantage of ‘yin yang contracts’” and that she accepted the fines.

She continued, “As an actor, I take pride in showcasing our country’s culture on the global stage, and I do my best to be in the forefront of this. I owe my success to the support of my country and the people. Without the great policies of the Party and the state, without the love of the people, there would have been no Fan Bingbing.”

“I failed my country which nurtured me; I failed the society which trusted me; I failed the fans who loved me,” she wrote. “I offer my sincere apology here once again! I beg for everyone’s forgiveness!”

One of the last times Fan was seen in public was at May’s Cannes Film Festival to promote the female spy thriller 355, which costars Jessica ChastainPenelope CruzLupita Nyong’o and Marion Cotillard.

Fan’s disappearance from public life made the news when state-run Chinese paper Securities Daily wrote that she was “under control” and “would accept the legal decision.” The story was then pulled by the outlet.

One rumor, that Fan was seeking asylum in Los Angeles, spread after Hong Kong’s The Apple Daily said that Jackie Chan had advised her to go to an immigration office. Chan’s company labeled the allegation “nonsense,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hollow Knight Has Sold More Than 1 Million Copies on PC

Hollow Knight has apparently been quite the success for developer Team Cherry. Speaking with Kotaku, co-director Ari Gibson revealed the Metroidvania game surpassed 1 million sales on PC after launching just over a year ago.

Walmart’s Doug McMillon’s Pay Tops $22 Million

Doug McMillon, president and chief executive officer of Walmart Inc., saw his total compensation rise 2 percent last year to $ 22.8 million, according to a regulatory filing. Most of that came from $ 15.7 million in stock awards, the ultimate value of which is tied to the company’s share price. He also drew a salary of $ 1.3 million and received incentive pay of $ 4.7 million.
Greg Foran, ceo of Walmart U.S., saw his pay slip 4.6 percent to $ 11 million.
Marc Lore, ceo of Walmart’s U.S. e-commerce business, received total compensation of $ 10.3 million — a big drop from the $ 243.9 million he reeled in during the prior year, although most of that came from his sale of Jet.com to the retail giant.
Lore is helping lead the company’s battle with online giant Amazon.
Under new rules from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company also reported that its median pay, excepting the ceo, was $ 19,177. That means McMillon brings in 1,118-times what the median Walmart worker does.

Aussie Fashion Rental Site GlamCorner Raises $3.3 Million

HONG KONG — Fashion rental website GlamCorner has raised $ 3.3 million, aimed at cementing its status as the market leader in the Australian apparel-sharing economy.
The investment of 4.2 million Australian dollars was led by AirTree Ventures, bringing the total amount of capital invested in the business to date to 5.5 million Australian dollars.
The company was founded by husband-and-wife duo Dean and Audrey Jones in 2012. The site stocks more than 3,000 designer dresses from more than 150 labels, averaging about 90 Australian dollars to 130 Australian dollars, and is equipped to offer next-day delivery across the country and three-hour delivery in Sydney.

Over the last year, the business has grown over 500 percent, transacting the retail equivalent of over 20 million Australian dollars, the company said.
“We are renting to 16-year-olds for their Year 10 formal to someone over 60 going to their daughter’s wedding. The problem [of finding an outfit] is quite universal,” Dean Jones said.

Thieves Steal $3.9 Million in Jewels From London’s Masterpiece Art Fair

HOT WEATHER HEIST: Thieves quietly swooped on London’s Masterpiece Art Fair, an annual event that takes place in Chelsea, stealing jewels worth 3 million pounds, or $ 3.9 million, from the Geneva-based jeweler Boghossian.
The ticketed fair, which showcases high-end art, antiques and jewelry, has round-the-clock security. It takes place every year at Royal Hospital Chelsea and draws up to 44,000 visitors. According to police, the thieves struck between 5 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
The fair ran from June 29 to July 5, and was open every day from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., which meant that the robbery could have taken place while the fair was still open for business. The thieves were thought to have used distraction techniques to carry out the robbery.
The fair said it is “fully cooperating with the police,” who have been examining the CCTV camera in the space. However, no arrests have been made and there were no witnesses to the theft. Guests are checked on their way into the fair, and on the way out. All bags are opened and examined upon arrival and as people are exiting.

Ring Purchased At Garage Sale May Be Worth Almost Half A Million Dollars

Shopping at garage sales can be hit or miss, but one lucky customer is cashing in on a major find.

Sotheby’s will auction off a sparkly cocktail ring a woman bought at a car boot sale in 1980s England next month with a starting bid of £250,000 (roughly $ 325,000). She had thought for decades that it was costume jewelry and wore it without a care in the world, revealed the owner, who declined to be named publicly, the auction house said this week.

The woman had purchased the piece for £10 at a garage sale at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth in west London, according to Sotheby’s. She decided in recent months to have the ring appraised after a jeweler said the stone could be real.

Sotheby’s Jewelry in London confirmed the stone’s authenticity ― a 19th century 26.27-carat, cushion-shaped white diamond. The auction house added that the stone has a color grade of I and an impressive clarity grade of VVS2. The ring could go for as much as £350,000 (about $ 450,000).

“We confirmed that it was indeed a diamond. We got it tested with the Gemological Institute of America … and that then dictated the price,” said Sotheby’s Jessica Wyndham, who heads the auction house’s jewelry department.

In the interview in the video above, Wyndham added that it was understandable the owner did not know the ring held a real diamond.

“It was in an antique style mount, so it was quite heavy,” she said. “It is mounted in silver around the top and when silver becomes tarnished it becomes quite black. And that mixed with the cut of the stone probably would have meant that it didn’t sparkle very much, and if it was all dirty, you just wouldn’t think that was real.”

The ring will hit auction on June 7.

A Virtually Unknown Jean-Michel Basquiat Painting Sold for a Record $110 Million

The sale came after a 10-minute bidding war.

SHOPPING DEALS UPDATE:

Basquiat Painting Sells For Record $110.5 Million At Sotheby’s Auction

A Jean-Michel Basquiat painting just sold for the highest price ever paid at auction for an American artist’s work: a whopping $ 110.5 million.

The 72-by-68-inch acrylic and oil stick “Untitled” painting of a skull by the late graffiti artist was the subject of 10 minutes of intense bidding Thursday night at a Sotheby’s auction in New York City. The opening bid of $ 57 million drew gasps from the audience, Bloomberg reported. Sotheby’s had estimated it would sell for at least $ 60 million.

It was the sixth-highest amount ever paid at auction for any work of art, putting Basquiat in the rarefied company of the celebrated Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Only 10 works have sold for more than $ 100 million.

The successful bidder, Japanese art collector Yusaku Maezawa, an e-commerce billionaire, announced in an Instagram post showing him standing next to the work that he had “just won this masterpiece.”

“When I first encountered this painting, I was struck with so much excitement and gratitude for my love of art,” he added. “I want to share that experience with as many people as possible.”

Collectors Jerry and Emily Spiegel bought the painting for $ 19,000 in 1984, when Basquiat was virtually unknown and had never been publicly exhibited. Basquiat died of a heroin overdose in 1988 at the age of 27 after painting for seven years. He created the skull in 1982. It’s considered one of his most important works still in private hands.

Maezawa said he plans to loan the work to institutions around the world before making it one of the centerpieces of a museum he has created in his hometown of Chiba, Japan.

The businessman last year bought another 1982 Basquiat painting of a devil at a Christie’s auction for $ 57.3 million, which at the time was the most ever paid for a work by the artist.

The Basquiat was part of a Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction of American post-war paintings that also featured works by such artists as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg.

Got $20 Million? Use It To Move Next Door To The Queen

We haven’t pined over a neighbor this badly since Mr. Rogers was on television.

London’s Buckingham Gate is a six-unit lap of luxury building which, according to its brochure, is made up of “impressive grand two and three bedroom apartments, crafted out of three 19th-century Grade II Listed townhouses.”

It’s also situated right next door to and overlooking ― you guessed it ― Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II’s famous London residence.

Its pièce de résistance is a $ 20 million-plus penthouse that spans 5,189 square feet, two floors and two buildings, boasts three bedrooms, three private terraces and was designed by “one of the most celebrated names in the world of contemporary interiors.” It is aptly referred to as the “jewel in the crown” of the project, according to House Beautiful UK.

An apartment situated on the first and second floor will run you around a cooler $ 14 million. But if you’re going to go big, you might as well pick the pad that could potentially give you a direct view at the queen rolling around the driveway in her Jaguar. At least that’s what we imagine she’s doing behind those closed gates.

And who knows? Perhaps her majesty will be coming knocking on your door in her jammies one night for a cup of milk.

Us mere mortals (with deep pockets) can dream.

Looking Like a Million Bucks to Sell $1 Million Listings

If Steven Gold ranks among the most arresting and stylish of New York real estate brokers, it’s because fashion seeped into him from his modeling days, which started at age 17 with a contract with Major Models and an exclusive to walk the Louis Vuitton show.
“I was standing in front of Marc Jacobs for two weeks doing the looks for the show, and I had no clue who he was,” Gold said with a laugh, recalling the first awkward moments of what would become an illustrious career. “But I definitely think my involvement in fashion has refined (my style). When I went to Milan I did about 10 to 15 shows a season and I did six years of shows pretty regularly in Paris and Milan. For sure, they put me in a lot of ridiculous stuff that I would never wear, but there’s also a lot of things that I really liked, and I have enough of a sense to know what works on me.”
Along the way, Gold also accrued a gold-plated Rolodex of some of the most influential people in fashion including designers Riccardo Tisci and Raf Simons, photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and makeup artist Pat

No, Melania Trump Does Not Want To Wire You $20 Million

No matter what this ridiculous email says, Melania Trump is not sitting on $ 20 million for you ― or anybody else ― in the White House.

According to the scam message that landed in inboxes like the one below last Wednesday, the first lady is just waiting for you to pay $ 180 to the West African Republic of Benin’s Federal Ministry of Finance before she’s authorized to release “your” funds:

But apart from its obvious absurdity, there are several red flags worth mentioning — such as Trump’s supposed Japan-based email address and California area code telephone number.

It also falsely suggests that Melania Trump is living in Washington, D.C., when she continues to reside at Trump Tower in New York City, and it doesn’t reveal how such a fortune came about.

Replies to the email (which divert via a Yahoo address) and a message left on the number’s voicemail (that seemed to divert to another number) are yet to yield answers as to who’s behind this “419” scam ― which involves targets being promised generous returns if they pay certain fees upfront.

A similar email recently requested $ 3 million to help a Nigerian astronaut stranded in space to get back to Earth. The reward? A healthy share of his $ 15 million salary. What could be more legit?

Germany Gives $2 Million Grant to Better Cotton Initiative

Germany’s Federal Ministry has awarded a grant of 2 million euros, or $ 2.14 million, to the Better Cotton Initiative‘s Growth and Innovation Fund.
The fund helps BCI advance its goal of reaching 5 million farmers and accounting for 30 percent of global cotton production by 2020. In 2016, the fund invested more than 5 million euros, or $ 5.36 million, in projects. The Federal Ministry contribution will enable a significant scaling-up of the portfolio for the next season, BCI said. The ministry also became a BCI member.

The funding will be invested globally in training and capacity-building to address sustainability issues in cotton farming, including pesticide use, water efficiency and severe working conditions such as child labor, gender issues and unfair pay, BCI said.
Gerd Müller, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, said: “Making globalization socially and environmentally fair — that is our common goal, both in our Textiles Partnership and in the Better Cotton Initiative. BCI is a leader in the effort to achieve better environmental and social standards in cotton production. Together with the private sector, civil society and producer country governments, we are defining standards.”

Run-DMC Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Amazon and Wal-Mart for Trademark Infringement

Attorneys for the Run-D.M.C. brand have filed a $ 50 million lawsuit against Amazon Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Co., Jet.com and a few other outlets for trademark infringement and trademark dilution, among other things.
First reported by TMZ Thursday, the legal filing was made in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The complaint, which includes numerous images of Run-D.M.C.-inspired products as they appeared on Amazon’s and Wal-Mart’s respective sites, alleges that the retailers are advertising, selling, manufacturing, promoting and distributing multiple Run-D.M.C. styled products. Eyewear, hats, T-shirts, wallets and patches are among the items referenced, some of which are said to use the Run-D.M.C. trademark. The complaint charges that the products being sold “confuse the public and suggest that Run-D.M.C. endorses the products.”

The dramatic proposal (watch an exclusive clip above!) will appear in the MDLLA season finale airing Thursday, December 29. The couple’s first date was also part of the current season.

“Bobby and I are truly over the moon happy,” Flagg, 31, told PEOPLE following the proposal. “Very seldom do couples share what Bobby and I share. What makes our partnership complete is we are most importantly best friends.”

Flagg’s parents were present for the carefully choreographed affair, which involved a flash mob of 40 dancers performing to a medley of Boyd’s favorite songs, at Paris’s celeb-frequented Hotel George V.

‘One Million Moms’ Is Going Totally Ballistic Over This New Zales Ad

Protesters in Standing Rock are being brutalized, white supremacists are rallying in Washington, D.C., and we’re hurtling toward a climate disaster. But don’t worry, anti-gay group One Million Moms is tackling the real problems facing our nation. Namely, a jewelry commercial showing a nice lesbian couple getting married.

The moral panic-enthusiasts released a statement this week decrying Zales for the new ad that, in a montage of couples and families, includes two women in wedding dresses happily exchanging vows.

“Zales is using public airwaves to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and belittle the sanctity of marriage in an attempt to redefine marriage,” wrote One Million Moms, apparently unaware that the actual definition of marriage already includes same-sex unions.

Their statement instructs fellow bigots to travel to Zales stores and tell managers (who surely have absolutely nothing to do with the company’s advertorial decisions) that they won’t shop there due to the commercial.

There are, of course, some legitimate reasons to criticize Zales, like promoting the huge scam of diamond engagement rings in the first place. But their inclusive commercial isn’t one of them.

Fitcode Closes $1.8 Million Series A Round

PERFECT FIT: Seattle-based fashion tech start-up Fitcode has disclosed new funding.
The company’s aim is to help consumers with their denim purchases, while reducing returns for brands by teaching shoppers how to make denim selections based on fit rather than size. Shoppers take a short quiz so they can be paired with a particular fit, of which Fitcode has nine. The company then provides denim suggestions based on that fit.
The $ 1.8 million Series A round was led by Seattle investment firm Harvey Partners and will be funneled into new hires, an app, a plus-size offering and growing the partnership base of brands and retailers, according to cofounder and chief executive officer Rian Buckley.
“Brands lose a lot of the conversion when they sell to retailers. And then for retailers, it’s pretty cool because we can offer a unique shopping experience,” Buckley said.
The idea for Fitcode stemmed from Buckley’s time as a fit model in which she saw just how much pinning, tucking and Photoshop work went into making a pair of jeans look good for a photo.
The company’s boutique includes brands such as Seven For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Hudson and Kut from the Kloth, among other designer labels. It doesn’t

Italian Leaders Chasing American Consumers With Yearlong $21.6 Million Initiative

NEW YORK — In a major vote of confidence in American consumers, Italy’s Vice Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda on Monday launched a yearlong, $ 21.6 million initiative tailor-made to bolster Italian fashion exports to the U.S. market.
Before detailing the multitiered program with other leading Italian trade officials at the Jacob K. Javits Center here Monday, Calenda discussed how the dollar’s strength against the euro, the industrialization of China and the shifting global marketplace were among the factors that spurred the effort. Last year, Italian exports to the U.S. totaled 5.2 billion euros, or $ 5.6 billion, an 11 percent increase compared to 2013. Italy has seen 4.5 percent market share growth in the U.S. since 2013. Because of increased spending due to the dollar gaining strength against the euro, Italy’s growth was 23.3 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period lat year.
“In the first phase of globalization, the mantra was, ‘You have to be present everywhere.’ Now you have to be much more selective. There are places where conditions for business will worsen, and places where they are opening up their borders for our goods,” he said. “We are really trying to guide our companies to avoid

Humble Plumber Wins $136 Million Lottery, Still Wants To Continue Working

NEW YORK (AP) — A Staten Island plumber who won a $ 136 million Powerball jackpot said Thursday he wants to keep working — but also plans to “relax a little more.”

Anthony Perosi, 56, left his March 14 ticket pinned to the wall behind a basement pipe for six weeks.

The winner, Anthony Perosi, on right, and his son, Anthony Perosi III.

A friend had told him where the winning ticket had been purchased, but she thought a teacher had won. So he took his time checking the numbers, which he’d chosen randomly.

“When I saw all the numbers matched up, I panicked,” Perosi said. “I immediately called my son and asked him to come over right away!”

Anthony Perosi III did what he was told.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said the 27-year-old. “I checked the numbers on my phone and it has been surreal ever since.”

The cash value of the ticket came to $ 88.5 million. The father decided to share his winnings with his son, split 70-30. So dad gets a net lump sum of $ 38.6 million after required withholdings, and son pockets $ 16.5 million.

“I honestly don’t know what my plans are right now,” said the elder Perosi. “I want to continue to work, but will be able to relax a little more and not have any worries financially.”

“I don’t have words for it,” said the son. “It’s just unbelievable and a big relief; like a big weight is off my shoulders. I’ll probably pay some bills, take a vacation, and then really take some time to think and plan for the future.”

Instead, they changed music forever. In this new book, musician and author Sid Griffin examines the recordings in detail, demonstrating on every page a musician''s insight into the Basement Tapes, the men who recorded them, and the times in which they were made. Picasso Painting Sells For $179 Million, Breaking Art Auction Record

NEW YORK (AP) — A vibrant, multi-hued painting from Pablo Picasso set a world record for artwork at auction, selling for nearly $ 179.4 million on Monday night.

“Women of Algiers (Version O)” was part of a sale at Christie’s auction house that also featured Alberto Giacometti’s life-size sculpture “Pointing Man,” which was poised to set a record as the most expensive sculpture sold at auction. They were among two dozen masterpieces from the 20th century Christie’s offered in a curated sale titled “Looking Forward to the Past.”

The Picasso price, $ 179,365,000, included the auction house’s premium. The identity of the buyer wasn’t immediately disclosed.

Experts say high art prices are driven by artworks’ investment value and by wealthy new and established collectors seeking out the very best works.

“I don’t really see an end to it, unless interest rates drop sharply, which I don’t see happening in the near future,” Manhattan dealer Richard Feigen said.

Impressionist and modern artworks continue to corner the market because “they are beautiful, accessible and a proven value,” added Sarah Lichtman, professor of design history and curatorial studies at The New School.

“I think we will continue to see the financiers seeking these works out as they would a blue chip company that pays reliable dividends for years to come,” she said.

“Women of Algiers,” once owned by the American collectors Victor and Sally Ganz, was inspired by Picasso’s fascination with the 19th-century French artist Eugene Delacroix. It is part of a 15-work series Picasso created in 1954-55 designated with the letters A through O. It has appeared in several major museum retrospectives of the artist.

The most expensive artwork sold at auction had been Francis Bacon’s “Three Studies of Lucian Freud,” which Christie’s sold for $ 142.4 million in 2013.

“Pointing Man,” depicting a skinny 5-foot-high bronze figure with extended arms, has been in the same private collection for 45 years. Giacometti, who died in 1966, made six casts of the work; four are in museums, and the others are in private hands and a foundation collection.

His “Walking Man I” holds the auction record for a sculpture. It sold for $ 104.3 million in 2010.

Among other highlights at Christie’s was Peter Doig’s “Swamped,” a 1990 painting of a canoe in a moonlit lagoon, which could set a record for the British artist. It was estimated to fetch around $ 20 million. The current record is $ 18 million.

Monet’s “The Houses of Parliament, At Sunset,” a lush painting of rich blues and magenta created in 1900-01, was estimated to bring $ 35 million to $ 45 million. The Monet auction record is his 1919 “Water Lily Pond,” which sold for $ 80.5 million in 2008.

Christie’s also had a Mark Rothko for sale. “No. 36 (Black Stripe),” which had never appeared at auction, was estimated to sell for $ 30 million to $ 50 million. The 1958 work was being sold by the German collector Frieder Burda, who exhibited it in his museum in Baden-Baden for several years.

Last year, Christie’s said its global sales of impressionist and modern art were $ 1.2 billion, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year.

"Million Dollar Blackjack" is the second of several books written by Ken Uston on Blackjack. You may wonder why he needed to write several books on the same subject. Was he like a chess grandmaster who publishes accurate analysis but who holds back a few secrets and sets traps for the unwary reader to fall into should he ever face the grandmaster in a tournament game? Most readers probably assumed that they were playing the system described by Edward Thorp in his book ‘Beat the Dealer." However, we were not using that system. Similarly, the popular movie "21" depicting a team of exceptionally bright MIT students beating the casinos has them using the Basic Plus-Minus System of Thorp. However, that is an old system, no longer used. So, it was in this book, "Million Dollar Blackjack," that Ken Uston finally revealed many of the secrets he used to beat the casinos.A new introduction by Professional Games Player Roy Hoppe provides updates and insights on how to beat the casinos.

In a Million Years, You’ll Never Guess Who Was The Most Googled Fashion Designer of 2014

Google has released its always-interesting list of the celebrities, terms, and people we collectively searched the most during the entire year and I’m here to tell you, there are some shockers. The most interesting one is the name that took the top spot in the fashion designer category, mostly because, arguably, the person isn’t exactly a designer. Nope, the honor went to 19-year-old Bethany Mota, YouTube star, for her collection with Aeropostale.

bethany-mota-aeropostale-velvet-skater-dress

This is her modeling a velvet dress from the range (which also has a bedding component). She has a cute style that’s relatable for everyone from middle school age on up and watching her videos feels like you’re talking to a best friend, so I get the appeal. Aeropostale harnessed that popularity and intimacy; the product description for this dress reads “You guys know me, so I’m sure you already know I’m freaking out about my Solid Velvet Dress! I’m so pumped about its shimmery fabric and sassy scoop back.”

Taking the number two and three spots were Kate Spade and Oscar de la Renta. Valentino, Alexander Wang, and Rachel Roy also made the list and, interestingly, Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles had the number 10 spot.

The most queried fashion question was how to wear a scarf, followed by what to wear to weddings, interviews, and a first date. Ankle boots, leggings, and beanies also earned spots as pieces that people want styling suggestions for.

What about your browser history? Is there a particular style question you’ve asked Google about?

The Guy From ‘Million Dollar Listing’ Is The Breakout Star Of Noah Baumbach’s New Movie

Here’s the best movie to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival: “While We’re Young,” Noah Baumbach’s “Frances Ha” follow-up.

Equal turns hilarious and insightful, Baumbach’s latest focuses on a couple in their 40s (Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts) who become friends with a couple in their 20s (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). The culture wars that play out over the film’s 97 minutes will especially resonate with audience members in the older demographic. Everyone else can appreciate Stiller’s frazzled turn as a fledgling documentary filmmaker, his best performance since the last movie he made with Baumbach, 2010’s “Greenberg.” Stiller’s become the closest thing to a modern-day Jack Lemmon that we have; no one expresses crushing frustration better.

Not that Stiller is the only thing going on here: Driver, Watts, Seyfried and Charles Grodin are pretty remarkable, too. (That Adam Driver is going to have a long career.) Then there’s Ryan Serhant and Adam Horovitz. You know them better as that guy from “Million Dollar Listing” and Ad-Rock from Beasties Boys.

Let’s start with Horovitz, who plays such a perfect embodiment of average, upper-middle class dads that you might not connect the dots right away between his character and Ad-Rock. Which is likely the point. In a movie about adults refusing to accept that they’ve become adults, what better way to illustrate that overarching theme than by having Ad-Rock wear khakis and carry baby in a sling? Horovitz’s character has got to fight for the right to wake up multiple times a night to feed his newborn.

while were young ryan serhant
Ryan Serhant at the premiere of “While We’re Young.”

But if Horovitz is a subtle marvel, Serhant is the movie equivalent of street construction on a quiet morning. He plays a hedge-fund manager named Dave (Hedge-Fund Dave as the credits note) who may help Stiller’s Josh fund his six-and-a-half hour documentary about America’s racist prison system, the Turkish economy and a bunch of other stuff? It’s not really clear, because Josh lost the thread somewhere around 2008. “So it’s like ‘Black Shawshank Redemption,’ but real,” an oblivious Dave says as he listens to Josh’s pitch. Dave is an unrepentant monster who watches “Mad Men” for tips on how to be a douche bag; he probably idolized Ellis in “Die Hard.” Serhant is so good at being a bro, someone should probably cast him in the “Entourage” movie.

“While We’re Young,” which was produced by IAC Films and Scott Rudin and Barry Diller, does not have distribution, but it’s only a matter of time. This has the chance to become the biggest hit of Baumbach’s career by a wide margin.

“A Million Ways To Die In the West” Is DOA

Movie Review Jackie K Cooper
“A Million Ways To Die In the West” (Universal Pictures)

Seth MacFarlane is the creative force behind the new movie “A Million Ways To Die In the West.” He co-wrote it, produced it, directed it and stars in it. Therefore any praise should go to him, and any complaints should also be aimed his way. The praises may be few but the complaints are going to be many. This movie is a flop and a half, and it shouldn’t be.

MacFarlane had a chance to make a funny, funny film and he blew it. Instead of using the comic humor he possesses, he deigned to thrown in every sophomoric joke and situation possible. Instead of using the comic resources of his cast, he submerged them in puerile situtions and bodily function humor.

At the center of the film is Albert (MacFarlane), a likeable sheep rancher who has found a reason for happiness. Her name is Louise (Amanda Seyfried). Alas Louise decides to dump Albert in favor of the smooth and slick Foy (Neil Patrick Harris). With a mustache business all his own he can provide Louise with some of the pleasures of life.

This plunges Albert into the depths of despair, but just when all is bleak he meets Anna (Charlize Theron). Anna is the wife of the notorious and ferocious outlaw named Clinch (Liam Neesom). He is off terrorizing another town, leaving Anna alone to her own devices. This allows her and Albert to strike up an instant friendship, while she conveniently forgets to tell him she is married.

This plot framework should be plenty substantial, but MacFarlane the director tears it down and stomps it to bits in order to give us boatloads of profanity, gross situations and and an endless supply of dull comic routines. To show how desperate he is in trying to inject some humor into his story, MacFarlane enlists the aid of Bill Mahr and Gibert Gottfried who appear as dull and duller.

There are some good points to this movie. The musical score evokes the triumphant spirit of the old west, and the photography shows the majesty of the setting. Plus you can just stand and stare at Theron and be transfixed by her beauty. She even manages to give us a bit of a character in Anna, but not much. MacFarlane fills her mouth with such foul language that we never get a real sense of who she is.

The movie is rated R for profanity, violence and brief nudity.

MacFarlane manages to show us there are a million and one ways to die in the west. The extra one is being bored to death.

I scored “A Million Ways To Die In the West” a fatal 4 out of 10.
