Scott Disick and Sofia Richie Break Up: He ‘Thinks She Might Change Her Mind,’ Says Source

Scott Disick and Sofia Richie are over, PEOPLE confirms.

According to a source, Richie, 19, ended the relationship with Disick, 35.

“Sofia broke up with Scott,” the insider tells PEOPLE, adding that Disick’s “old issues” contributed to the split.

“When Scott drinks, he is a sloppy mess and fools around,” the source says.

As for how Disick is dealing with the break up, “Scott seems fine,” the insider tells PEOPLE. “He even thinks she might change her mind. He isn’t really taking it seriously.”

The news comes amid heightened speculation about their relationship status after Disick was spotted looking flirty with a mystery woman at Kanye West‘s Ye listening party in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Thursday night. Disick reportedly told guests that he and Richie were no longer together, according to TMZ.

Richie and Disick — who shares three kids with ex Kourtney Kardashian — first sparked romance speculation in May after they were pictured cuddling up aboard a yacht in the south of France during the Cannes Film Festival. At the time, Richie — who previously dated Justin Bieber — adamantly denied anything romantic was going on, tweeting that the two were “just homies.”

Months later, the two had become “inseparable,” a source told PEOPLE in mid-September. They confirmed their romance shortly afterwards with friends in Miami, capping off the trip with a few PDA-packed days in Mexico.

In the months that followed, the couple spent much of their time traveling together, enjoying a romantic Italian getaway and another trip to Mexico. They also spent time together stateside and were regularly spotted in Los Angeles and New York City.

While a source previously told PEOPLE that Richie’s famous father Lionel wasn’t too pleased about the relationship — “Lionel knows Scott’s playboy ways, and he doesn’t want to see his daughter get hurt,” the insider said — the model had insisted that her dad was on board.

“He’s good — he’s been very nice,” she told E! News at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Patron of the Artists Awards in Beverly Hills in November.

“He’s been very cool,”  she added. “He’s very supportive, whatever that means,” she added as Lionel, 68, jokingly pointed a gun-shaped hand gesture at his head.

“I am into her business, and she’s trying to keep me out of her business,” he said.

Throughout their relationship, Disick and Richie’s went through ups and downs. A source told PEOPLE in early November that it was “starting to fizzle.”

“They’re starting to argue more, and it’s bothering Sofia,” said the source. “She thought he would be more serious about their relationship and is finding herself to be more frustrated with him as time goes on. Everything everyone has been telling her to look out for, she’s now starting to see for herself. It’s really upsetting for her, but she is trying to work through it.”

But just weeks later, another source told PEOPLE the two were “very serious” and that Richie has been a positive influence on Disick, who is known for his late nights out and has openly struggled with alcohol abuse.

“She’s been great for him,” the source said. “She’s made a big impact on his life and hasn’t partied at all since they met.”

“His friends adore her and nobody notices the age difference,” added the source. “She is very mature, she grew up in Hollywood and has always been in older situations. They seem really happy.”

The schoolroom drama genre is heavily populated with impassioned, benevolent literature teachers who don’t play by the book, looking on as young minds expand and flourish under their unusual instruction. Street Signs: Inside the Restless Mind of Kith’s Ronnie Fieg

NEW YORK — It’s easy to imagine loving shoes, but imagine loving shoes so much that, at 13, you’d rather spend time with them in a stockroom than hang out with friends. Now imagine, 10 or so years later, partnering with Nike, Asics, Adidas and others to rework the designs you used to study in that stockroom. And then imagine finally selling those shoes and wearing those shoes, but, to your surprise, they don’t quite fit. This is how Ronnie Fieg, creative director and chief executive officer of Kith, feels at the moment.
“Where I am right now is like walking around in a pair of shoes and they look fly and you love them, but they are too small. Well, actually, they are too big now. It’s not too big. I don’t want to say that, but the business is a lot bigger than I imagined,” Fieg said in an interview at Kith’s brand new SoHo office in Manhattan, which is a stone’s throw away from its recently opened store on Lafayette Street and a couple of floors above Kering’s New York headquarters. “I’m always uncomfortable because I’ve never been here before. There is no formula. There is no guideline.

HanesBrands Markets New Maidenform and Playtex Items With Curvy Customers in Mind

CURVES AHEAD: Body confidence is very much de rigueur on social media, in advertising and on the runway. Just ask Jennifer Aniston, Chloë Grace Moretz, Khloé Kardashian and Karrueche Tran who have recently spoken out about fat-shaming.
Trying to be proactive, HanesBrands has introduced more full-figure and plus-size pieces under its Maidenform and Playtex labels. In an effort to appeal to Millennials who are said to prefer the term “curvy,” the company is pitching these new products as Maidenform Curvy and Playtex Love My Curves. After a year of research, the company said women who fit that description want intimate apparel that does not compromise fit, selection, color or style. Playing to that concept, Maidenform Curvy shapewear is designed for women whose dress sizes range between 16 and 30. It is sold in department stores and online, with retail prices starting at $ 44. Playtex Love My Curves, meanwhile, is available in sizes up to a G cup with retail bra prices starting at $ 42.
With these line extensions, both brands are trying to gain more sales in a burgeoning sector. For the 12 months ended June 2017, 30 percent of the combined dollar volume of bras, panties and shapewear stemmed from plus-size purchases,

Experience Matters: Inside the Mind of Enfants Riches Déprimés Founder Henry Levy

It’s a little bit of streetwear, skate, punk, new wave and contemporary art set amid half trashy pawn shop and half art gallery that’s overtaken Maxfield.
Los Angeles brand Enfants Riches Déprimés is next in line for Maxfield’s pop-up series when it opens the doors to its temporary stand-alone space located across from the boutique retailer’s main store on Melrose Avenue.
The temporary shop will have a three-week run selling a limited-edition shoe collaboration with Vans, archival pieces, toys, banners, art and the introduction of Enfants Riches Déprimés furniture, all born out of the mind of founder and sole designer Henry Levy, who sometimes goes by Henri Alexander.
The idea was to create an exterior similar to a pawn shop, complete with fake infomercials created by Levy playing in the store windows. The building’s facade was painted a bright yellow Levy called “obnoxious” amid the street’s more conventional building exteriors. Inside is a bit of a different story with white walls and a gallerylike backdrop for the clothes.
“I really wanted the person coming in to fully get pulled into the experience of the [Enfants] studio, but in a more organized fashion so really pinpoint and consolidate the visual of the art aspect of

The Babadook Is Apparently Now A Gay Icon And The Internet Is Losing Its Mind Over It

We’re babashook!

The titular bad guy from the 2014 horror movie “The Babadook” has suddenly become a gay icon and the internet can’t get enough of his delightfully evil homosexual ways.

Vulture believes the hilariously puzzling phenomenon can originally be traced back to a Tumblr post from October 2016:

Buzzfeed reported that the craze began in the summer of 2016 when the film was mistakenly listed in the LGBT section of Netflix:

Teen Vogue claims that the image was actually edited and notes that while the newly out boogeyman-like character first became a sensation months ago on Tumblr, it wasn’t until earlier this month that it really began to take off in tandem with LGBTQ Pride celebrations.

No matter what the real backstory is, one thing is certain: people just can’t get enough of gay Babadook.

A post shared by Mikey Pop (@djmikeypop) on

We’re still not really sure how or why this happened but we don’t really care. We’re just happy to have The Babadook as part of the family.

‘Price Is Right’ Contestant Breaks Plinko Record, Loses His Mind In The Process

It’s not every day you can lead a chant of your own name.

In fact, don’t do that. That should never happen. The one exception is if your name is Ryan and you’re breaking the Plinko record.

On Thursday’s episode of “The Price is Right,” contestant Ryan Belz got the chance to play Plinko, and the guy made the most of it. The contestant’s chips landed in the $ 10,000 slot three times, and he ended up with a total of $ 31,500.

For those who don’t know “Price is Right” history off the top of your head, host Drew Carey said that’s a new Plinko record.

And Belz lost his mind the whole time.

If you weren’t aware, Belz is somewhat of a “Price is Right” fan. You know, somewhat …

In a video on TMZ, the contestant said he’s such a fanatic of the show that he scheduled his classes at Penn State around “Price is Right” so he could watch. Belz even has an impression of the “Price is Right” announcer George Gray.

He said he’s not allowed to appear on the show for another 10 years now, but added, “10 years, mark my word, you know where I’ll be.”

A post shared by Madonna (@madonna) on

The Emmy-winning actress fangirled out when she spotted a camouflaged Madge on the carpet, pointing at the singer with her mouth agape.

Luckily, Madonna loved it.

Following the photobomb, Madonna enthusiastically took to Instagram to share the image, writing, “Love you Sarah!”

Man Over Mind

Man Over Mind

Tol, a young man of mysterious ancestry, must learn how the human mind functions in order to destroy those who ve combined their naked brains with thirty-third century computers. Monsters in their arrogance and lust, these Minds rule the galaxy. They drive humanity to despair. After discovering his heritage, Tol battles with pirates, planetary rulers, a beautiful girl, and, most difficult of all, his own brain, before he can conquer the center of Imperial power. REVIEWS Mike Resnick, Hugo-winning and best-selling author says “MAN OVER MIND is an exceptionally promising first novel.” Dave Foster, author and proprietor of Top Tenn Press says: “An exciting Read. I am new to sci-fi, but not to the study of human brain-power and its relationship to creativity. Dean Warren offers the reader a great story plus an even greater insight into how the brain works. Warren s hero Tol meets with event after event, each of which helps explain the brain s intricate function. Tol displays the mark of a born leader by using his tremendous, logical brain-power in deadly combat with its silicone counterpart. This book may, or may not, foretell human life in the year 3300, even so, it tells me that I have been missing something. I m becoming a sci-fi fan. The May, 2002 issue of the Midwest Book Review says: Dean Warren s Man Over Mind is a hard-core, well written science fiction saga about a young man pitted against horrible Minds, former human beings who merged their dissected brains with computers and reaped the power to rule the galaxy in utter depravity. The hero s fight takes him across space and time and against the workings of his own brain before he can challenge the dread nexus of the Mind s superhuman power. Man Over Mind is an exciting, whirlwind of an adventure tale and enthusiastically recommended reading for all SciFi buffs. Man Over Mind was selected as a finalist in the 2001, Foreward Magazine s Book of the Year Award, Science Fiction and Fantasy category! 10/1/2002 Sc

Four Uncommon Ways to Clear Your Mind and Make Big Decisions

What are some tips for battling decision-fatigue? originally appeared on Quorathe knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights.

Answer by Jenny Blake, Author of PIVOT: The Only Move That Matters is Your Next One, on Quora.

Decision-fatigue refers to the phenomenon that, like willpower, our ability to make decisions throughout the day diminishes without proper recharging. When mid-Pivot and asking life’s biggest questions, we are often overwhelmed by smaller decisions and things that might not have registered on our radar in the past. Or conversely, we’re so bogged down by small day-to-day decisions that we don’t have the space to ask bigger Pivot questions about what we really want and what next steps would resonate most.

To refresh your mind, I recommend the following:

  • Don’t ask the same giant questions every day (ie: Should I quit my job?). Give yourself a period of time where you don’t have to decide at all, perhaps while you’re researching options. Revisit the decision at specific intervals of your choosing, but not on a daily monkey-mind basis.
  • Create routines for as much as you can in your life – morning routines, scheduling exercise for the same recurring days/times, evening wind down rituals. What recharges you? The more you can create routines around these things, the less you will find yourself debating what to do when throughout the day (gobbling up precious mental bandwidth).
  • Write your questions down.
  • Go with your gut! We actually do know the answer to more than we think – on decisions large and small. If you find yourself debating unproductively, ask: what does my gut say?

This question originally appeared on Quora. – the knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights. You can follow Quora on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

Rock-a-Bye BabyGirls: Thoughts and other Journeys of the Mind

A collection of writings about the fetish of infantilism. It’s not an educational read about infantilism, but rather a romantic fantasy about role playing. Some role playing themes affect one in a physical way. Some affect emotions. Some go so deeply as to affect the heart, mind and soul. One such theme is infantilism, aka The “Daddy’s Girl” fetish. The age difference between the roles played becomes a foundation for a relationship. A girl pretends to be little and a guy pretends to be her father. The attraction is the feeling of vulnerability met with the “Daddy’s” nurturing care. She dresses in clothing fitting to the age she role plays. It can include infantile behavior, diapers, pacifiers, bibs, bottles, toys, cribs, nurseries, high chairs and other things. If you like role playing, erotic fantasy, infantilism, or adult fetishes, this book is a must read. THIS SUBJECT MATTER IS OF AN ADULT-NATURE AND NOT INTENDED FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

This book discusses Dr. Amen’s experience in diagnosing and treating over 6,000 children, teenagers, and adults with ADD. Metaphors Of Mind: An Eighteenth-century Dictionary

Metaphors Of Mind: An Eighteenth-century Dictionary

An encyclopedic dictionary along the lines of Voltaire''s classic Dictionnaire Philosophique, Metaphors of Mind provides an in-depth look at the myriad ways in which Enlightenment writers used figures of speech to characterize the mind. Drawn from Brad Pasanek''s massive online archive, http://metaphorized.net, this volume constitutes a veritable treasury of mental metaphorics.Dividing the book into eleven broad metaphorical categories-Animals, Coinage, Court, Empire, Fetters, Impressions, Inhabitants, Metal, Mirror, Rooms, and Writing-Pasanek maps out constellations of metaphors. He frames his collection of literary excerpts in each section with a more descriptive and theoretical discussion of what he calls desultory reading, a form of unsystematic perusal of writing frequently employed by Enlightenment thinkers. By surveying the printed past alongside the digital present, the book treats eighteenth-century writing as its topic while essentially exemplifying its rhetorical approach.More than an exercise in quotation, this intellectual history offers illuminating readings of fragmentary literary works and confrontations with neoclassical and contemporary theories of metaphor. The book''s entries complicate received ideas about Locke''s blank slate, question M. H. Abrams'' claims about mirrors and lamps, and chart changing frequencies of metal metaphors in a moment of industrial revolution. The book also responds to current anxieties about reading and the mass digitization of literature, touching on recent discussions of distant reading, shallow reading, and surface reading. Promoting critical and creative anachronism, Metaphors of Mind redefines the notion of an archive in the age of Amazon and Google Books.

Laurell experienced a long and lonely day because Tim was with his family at a Mardi Gras parade. The park was deserted. One can only spend just so much time on playground equipment and can throw just so many acorns against the trunk of a tree. He headed to a short cut through the golf course rough, to check his private pond before going home. As he walked clouds intruded between him and the sun and the building wind produced bitter cold. His tennis shoes squeaked on the sodden grass. He sat on the roots of a live oak, staring at his sneakers, with his elbows on his knees. It was no fun without Tim. He had thought he would sneak into the pond and wade for golfballs. Because of the weather it had been sometime since they had raided it. The pond would be literally filled with goflballs and Tim would be green with envy from the number Laurell wold likely find, but it was too cold to strip down. It was the worst time for Laurell than he knew. Someone was watching, waiting along the path through the woods to the bridge crossing the bayou.

Why Mind Reading Is Detrimental to Your Relationship

2015-07-01-1435794280-6389667-3969908944_e450296f0f_z.jpg

Many of us believe we’ve got other people figured out.

We think we understand their motivation. Rattling off a list of their actions, including all our assumed rationale behind what they do, and drawing conclusions without actually talking to them.

We’re mind readers.

I remember as a kid, my mother spent a great deal of time being angry with my father. She saw him as a workaholic and preferring his business, to spending time with the family. This dynamic was my kid-like perception of their relationship. I took it for granted that she always had him figured out. She was right, he was wrong.

It wasn’t until years later, I realized I never asked my Dad his motivation for working long hours, beyond assuming it was to provide for his family. I had no idea how he actually felt or his deeper drive, but I knew how my mother felt and that was definitely not happy.

I wondered if she ever understood his motivation, if she did, wouldn’t she take it less personally? Wouldn’t she understand more, or make different choices rather than make him the bad guy? Maybe assuming or reading his mind suited her position better.

Not having a clue, I took that modeling with me into many relationships.

Thinking I knew my mate better than they knew themselves I assumed a lot of the time and suffered, because I gave their words and actions my own meaning and took it personally. Assuming without asking or understanding. I was right, they were wrong.

In my mind I had them pegged! Friends and family would agree with me and take my side.

It didn’t serve me. I didn’t win and I didn’t get what I wanted, except the reassurance from others, that I was right.

I never really understood what my past partners’ motivation was for actions that upset me. I never asked a direct question, because I was afraid. I couldn’t handle honest communication. It goes the same for many of my clients and others I’ve met, thinking we know it all, when it comes to our partners.

It’s actually a sign, we don’t know ourselves and don’t want the truth.

If we sit in judgment of someone and believe we’re perfect, or we think our reasons are substantial and their defense weak, our relationships are always going to be fraught with drama. We’re shirking responsibility. We’re making the focus the other person. It keeps emotional intimacy at bay, builds resentment and creates distance.

We’re too busy figuring out their motivation, so we don’t look at our own. It keeps us suspended in a state of reaction to something made up in our head. The false illusion is no one can hurt us or perhaps, we’ll remain in control.

Figuring out our partner can give us a false sense of security, inevitably they’ll do or say something unexpectedly, throwing our world into turmoil. Now, if we trust ourselves to handle whatever comes our way, we’re in a state of good feeling — even if the s**t hits the fan!

Isn’t the goal in a relationship about loving our mate and loving ourselves?

A few keys to getting closer rather than practicing ineffective mind-reading skills:

1. Connection.

Asking ourselves what’s really brewing inside of us, rather than decoding our partners’ words and actions. If we focus on our stuff and doing things to promote self-love, we have more of it to give, instead of looking for reasons to squelch it from our lives.

2. Communicate honestly.

Communicate our true emotional state, desires and motivation. No matter what, we can speak from a heart-centered space, rather than making up a story in our head, which may feel comfortable but drives a wedge.

3. Remember, we are our own problem.

We look at the other person as the problem. And it’s just not true. Basing their motivation on our story of them, rather than taking responsibility, means we’ll repeat the blame game in other relationships.

Wise Music to Soothe the Savage Beast of My Mind

2015-07-01-1435741004-289828-KETCHER_TIBETHOUSE2_021312_691.jpg

In a world that’s always switched on, spinning ever faster, how do we slow down that relentless momentum long enough to find our center?

Having worked in large corporations most of my life, subjected to the pressures and stress these environments cultivate, I discovered a simple answer to that question: with music. Like the expression, “Music has charms to soothe a savage beast,” my mind is more tranquil when I listen to music I like, be it jazz, rock, classical or the chill out sounds from yoga class. Included in this mix, I’ve been listening to Dechen Shak, who performs traditional Tibetan music with harmonic melodies and inspiring lyrics, which have had a soothing effect on my otherwise turbo speed existence.

Her career is an interesting story of how an artist representing traditional wisdom made their work more approachable by evolving to a contemporary sound with the encouragement of a rock producer and a pop diva.

I first heard Dechen on the radio in 1989 with a single that took age-old Buddhist mantras and songs her father, Dagsay Rinpoche (who is a Lama), composed and set them to music. Soon after, she quite her job to focus on her music and the resulting album Dewa Che received Gold Record status in Switzerland and was voted in the United States as “Best Spiritual Album.” Her music was getting better known and in 1994 Dechen was asked to sing on the soundtrack of Bernardo Bertolucci’s movie Little Buddha. Nine more albums followed as well as many international concerts in Europe, USA and Asia, including performing for the Dalai Lama.

One element of Dechen’s work I find very inspiring is how she channels some of the proceeds from her albums to a project in Tibet, providing vocational training for young Tibetans to help sustain themselves and their families.

A very special musical cooperation started in 2009 with the project BEYOND. Working with Tina Turner, Dechen represented the Buddhist voice on a spiritual album promoting peace and understanding between various religious faiths. The BEYOND records were well received and went on to achieve gold and platinum status.

Following this collaboration, a solo album called JEWEL brought Dechen and her ensemble to Hong Kong, South Korea and India. As a special highlight she was invited by Philip Glass to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall along with Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson. The Wall Street Journal gave the concert a very positive review and quoted Dechen:

“I had the feeling as if out of Carnegie Hall, I’m sending this prayer out to the world that there can be peace in the world and Tibet.”

ASIAN JEWEL followed in 2014, featuring two renowned Chinese musicians. I was happily surprised to hear that Tibetan music is getting more popular in Mainland China as the government has now allowed more cultural diversity in the arts.

As Dechen’s musical experience grew, she started to explore a more contemporary sound in order to reach a broader public. Out of respect for the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Dechen and her producer Helge van Dyk travelled to India and met with the sister of the Dalai Lama, Mrs. Jetsün Pema, to receive advice on how to modernize the traditional music. They were delighted when they were told: ‘the time needs this’. They also visited Dharamsala in Northern India, which is the homeland in exile for Tibetans. There they were invited to special concert and as an exception, Helge was the only Westerner allowed in the audience. He was so impressed by the power and high energy of the music he could only say: ‘this is rock and roll!’

2015-07-01-1435741076-1262093-DechenorangeAlbertoVenzagoKopie.jpg Dechen had some challenges at the start of the album: “I remember when Helge said at the very beginning of this production that this album will be a big challenge for both of us. We wanted to create a modern way of transmitting the ancient Tibetan texts and songs for a wider audience without loosing the essence. With the support of Helge I dared to go into the special energy of my ethnic voice. At the beginning I was quite hesitant because I didn’t know if I could manage it. And then when Tina Turner also encouraged me to use the power of my voice, I felt I wanted to give it a try.”

I was surprised to hear on some of the songs from the new album Day Tomorrow, what sounded like Dechen rapping part of the lyrics. When I asked her if this was her way of modernizing the sound, she said it is a very old tradition in monasteries for monks to recite certain prayers in a very speedy rap-like manner in order to keep their mind focused, and also because the prayers are often repeated 100,000 times or more.

The production of the album was enhanced by the help of some top L.A. studio musicians like Leland Sklar on bass guitar, Martin Tillman on E-Cello and Satnam Ramgotra on percussion. And the finishing touches were done in the inspiring environment of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bristol, England.

The current album focuses on the theme of sustainability for our planet and how our mindful actions Today can create the base for a good Tomorrow. This is the first time Dechen is singing not only in Tibetan but also in French, with a mix of soft meditative mantras and also some very groovy songs with a dynamic beat. All these elements can be heard in the video ‘Le Bonheur‘, which is a prayer for peace in the world and it’s Dechen’s heartfelt wish to reach as many people as possible with this positive message.

As much as I love the traditional, soothing songs on her past albums I have to admit the new sounds put a smile on my face and make me want to get up and dance. As a stress buster and a way of supporting a better tomorrow, I’m happy to have this on my playlist to soothe the savage beast of my mind.

Seinfeld Doesn’t Mind If You Make Fun Of His Finale Because He Has No Feelings

Jerry Seinfeld is fine if you joke about the heavily criticized last episode of “Seinfeld.” That is — as long as he considers it a “good joke.”

While speaking at the Vulture Festival on Saturday, Seinfeld shared his opinion on the joke Julia Louis-Dreyfuss delivered about the “Seinfeld” finale on the last episode of “Late Show with David Letterman.” (The joke: “Thanks for letting me take part in another hugely disappointing series finale.”)

“I like all jokes,” Seinfeld said. “There’s really nothing else I care about except jokes. I don’t care who has them, whose feelings have to be hurt — if it’s a good joke I’m into it.”

Seinfeld mentioned that the joke was a second option after he and Louis-Dreyfuss pushed back on the first, and wondered if the writers had been hesitant to use it at first to spare his feelings.

“Maybe they didn’t want to hurt my feelings. That’s what it may have been: That they had that joke and they didn’t want to hurt my feelings and then, of course, they don’t know I don’t have feelings.”

It’s unclear whether “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David would feel the same way, as he’s revealed in previous interviews that the negative reception to the show’s finale still influences him. Speaking to Bill Simmons in December, he mentioned how audience perception of the episode has made him hesitant to end “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in a similar fashion.

“I got so much grief from the ‘Seinfeld’ finale, which a lot of people intensely disliked, that I no longer feel a need to wrap things up.” he said.

For more of Seinfeld’s comments, head over to Vulture.

What It Was Like to Glimpse John Nash’s Beautiful Mind

While finishing my dissertation at Princeton, I had the distinct pleasure of taking a seminar with John Nash. If you’ve read the book or seen the movie, A Beautiful Mind, you’ll know that Nash suffered from schizophrenia and this seminar was one of his first appearances since having brought that mental ailment under control.

Not knowing what to expect, most of us signed up just for the opportunity to spend time with Nash. He was a legend. Though we’d seen him as a shadowy figure that often lurked around Firestone library with a stack of paper scribblings, none of us ever spoke to him and we were curious about what a true genius might actually say.

Strangely enough, that didn’t make everyone on the faculty happy. I remember one game theorist telling me that taking Nash’s seminar would be a “distinct waste of time”. That was an ironic comment since Nash essentially “invented” game theory — non-cooperative game theory, in particular.

Non-coop game theory is the study of how individuals or institutions might interact strategically if they don’t communicate and Nash won the 1994 Nobel Prize for presenting the first, stable solution to such a situation. If you loved the films, The Usual Suspects or LA Confidential, for example, those plots demonstrated non-cooperative game theory in its great, Hollywood form.

Surprisingly, however, Nash didn’t speak about non-coop game theory. Instead he presented the work he’d been doing on cooperative game theory. Coop-game theory is about how groups of individuals might enforce behaviour to achieve certain outcomes. Just about every spy movie with a dastardly syndicate influencing its members involves coop theory.

Yet, what made Nash’s presentation amazing was his sharp mind and wit. He simply looked at things differently. His whole approach involved painting a picture of an idea — not simply stating a few results. Having not presented anything publicly in nearly 50 years, some complained that his work failed to connect with the recent direction of the literature and didn’t seem to have a point. That seemed like dismissive jealousy to many of us, since what Nash presented was simply fresh, true and relevant to the real world.

After the presentation, our group went to a small room with Nash for cookies and a discussion. Of course, while Nash wanted to talk about his results and possible extensions, we all wanted to know about his life and how he came to be “Nash”. That made him noticeably uncomfortable, so the group of us became a bit clever and started asking Nash questions that we hoped would reveal his genius.

I asked him who had influenced his choice of dissertation topic and he said, no one. Another person wondered whether Nash’s work was accepted readily by people around the mathematics department at the time and Nash said, no. Finally, we hit the jackpot when I asked Nash how his model could explain the politics of the world we currently see.

All of a sudden, this 70-something year old man stood up and spoke to us with a 20-something year old’s energy. He started illustrating the interesting point that powerful, cooperative relationships actually stem from the lack of power, not from the possession of it. Enforcing the rules of a coalition was really about playing on the fears and insecurities of other members.

All of that made a sort of counterintuitive sense to us. It made me think, for example, about Hitler’s rise to power and his ability to create alliances with the leadership of “seemingly nice countries”. In school, we were taught that most of these countries fell under Hitler’s sway for fear Nazi invasion. Nash’s model, however, suggested that insecurity was what might have motivated the Axis powers.

While we pondered Nash’s ideas, what further amazed us was his humility and hunger for intellectual interaction, even with us lowly graduate students. He spoke to us as colleagues and invited us to validate his thinking. He also encouraged us when he believed we were on the right track, and gently corrected us when we got things wrong.

I was definitely the dumbest person in the room and felt especially fortunate to interact with him in this way. At one point, when he complimented me on something I said, I remember thinking, “A genius has just said he likes the way I think — I gotta’ tell my boys at home about this!”

Like all good things, our time with Nash eventually came to an end. I doubt that he took much away from us, but we definitely took a great deal away from him.

Nash taught me, for example, that brilliant ideas are not the exclusive domain of people with great minds; yet it’s hard to imagine many people deserving the title “great” without brilliant ideas.

Nash taught me that we thinkers are no less artistic and creative in our ideas than the greatest of artists, unless we choose to be so.

Nash taught me that even geniuses need other people to correct their thinking and vet their ideas (as he had done in interacting with Von Neumann).

Most importantly, however, Nash taught me that anyone’s mind can be beautiful if it focuses on producing beautiful ideas.

Russell Crowe Reacts To Death Of John Nash, ‘A Beautiful Mind’ Mathematician

John Nash, the Nobel Prize-winning mathematician who was depicted in the 2001 film “A Beautiful Mind,” died Saturday in a car accident. Russell Crowe, who portrayed Nash in the film, tweeted on Sunday about the Nobel laureate.

Soon after, “A Beautiful Mind” director Ron Howard tweeted about the death of Nash and his wife, Alicia, and how it was “an honor” to tell their story.

The film’s producer Brian Grazer also shared his condolences on Twitter.

John Nash, 86, and Alicia Nash, 82, were ejected from a taxi when the car crashed into the guardrail on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to the New Jersey State Police. NJ.com reported that the two were not wearing seat belts.

“A Beautiful Mind,” which won four Oscars, followed Nash’s pioneering work in game theory. The film also recounted Nash’s struggle with mental illness.

Mind the Gap

Mind the Gap

The way you parent, the clothes you buy, your relationships with your boss and your daughter, your attitude to money and sex, are, to an extraordinary extent, defined by the era into which you were born. Parents, the church, teachers and employers think they understand youngsters because they, too, were young once. But adults no longer live in the world that existed when they were teenagers. We may occupy the same space, home, classroom or office but we live in different worlds. And these worlds often collide. We’ve moved in one century from a ‘built to last’ to a ‘throwaway’ society. No wonder age differences are so vast. In this book you will discover your generation and those of the people who make up your life. Once you understand what makes them, and you, tick, the ‘gen gap’ begins to shrink. Fasten your seatbelt for a generational roller coaster ride – you may never think the same way again! In this book you’ll understand why: your boss insists on endless meetings and conferences; your 20-something student doesn’t want a 50-something computer teacher; you’re in your 40s but still trying to prove yourself to Mom and Dad; your teacher should be learning from you.

Chris Rock: Divorce Can Leave You ‘Sad Outta Your F*cking Mind’

Chris Rock is getting real about how hard divorce can be.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the 50-year-old comedian — who confirmed his separation from wife Malaak Compton-Rock in December — opened up about how he’s faring since the 19-year marriage ended.

“I’m doing OK,” Rock told the paper. “You know, some days are better than others, some days you’re sad outta your f*cking mind. But my daughters are good and I’m only an hour away. Two houses close by. It’s good.”

Rock also addressed whether or not joking about the difficulties of marriage in his stand-up and films harmed the relationship in any way.

“Hey, I’m getting divorced now,” he said with a laugh. (One of Rock’s most famous marriage-related bits? “Marriage is so tough, Nelson Mandela got divorced — he got out of jail after 27 years of torture, spent six months with his wife and said, ‘I can’t take this sh*t no more.'”)

The former couple’s divorce hasn’t been the most peaceful one up to this point. According to divorce doc obtained by People, Rock claimed that his estranged wife had “repeatedly refused to permit [him] normal and usual access to the children, and has acted in a manner detrimental to the children’s best interests.”

In a statement released by her lawyer, Compton-Rock, a founder of two non-profits, denied the claims.

“We all know Chris leads a very busy public life while Malaak and their children definitely do not,” her attorney said. “She hopes the privacy of their children is still as important to Chris as it is to her and that it will be respected. They will always be the main focus of her life.”

Treasure Hunt: Inside the Mind of the New Global Consumer

The essential follow-up to the "BusinessWeek" bestseller "Trading Up" A BMW in a Costco parking lot? A working class family with a 50 inch plasma TV? A 27-year-old Japanese administrative assistant with a collection of Coach purses? An 87-year-old retiree in Ohio exclaiming the value of Aldi brand honey? What’s going on in the mind of the new consumer? Today’s consumers can seem impossible to understand, and even harder to please. For instance, the average mall shopper will spend her 0, then leave when she hits that limit. She’ll probably buy shoes rather than clothing, because she doesn’t want to think about her dress size. And the store most likely to get her money isn’t the one with the nicest display or the deepest discounts… it’s the one closest to her parking spot. In his research with dozens of leading companies, Michael J. Silverstein has interviewed thousands of customers, extracting fascinating patterns about what really drives their purchase decisions. His first book, the acclaimed bestseller "Trading Up," has taught a generation of marketers about the "new luxury" phenomenon, and why consumers will happily pay a steep premium for goods and services that are emotionally satisfying, from golf clubs to bathroom hardware to beauty products. But "Trading Up" only revealed part of the story of the new consumer. The same middle class consumers who are happily trading up at Victoria’s Secret and Panera are going on treasure hunts at Costco and Home Depot. And they are often getting as much emotional satisfaction in the discount stores as in the luxury stores. Silverstein’s new book explains how the new consumer approaches bargain hunting, and how even the most mundane shopping a for things like paper towels and pet food — have become an adventure rather than a tedious chore. It turns out that, in just about every consumer category, both the high end and the low end are growing and innovation rich. Many middle class consumers gladly spend .00 a day for a vente Starbucks latte; others spend 40 cents a day on home brewed coffee, feel good about their frugality, and save up the difference to buy Apple’s newest Nano. Treasure Hunt explains the success of companies as diverse as Dollar General, LG, H. E. Butt, Ebay, Commerce Bank, and Tchibo. Beware: in our bifurcated global market, businesses need a clear strategy for aiming high or low, while staying away from the treacherous middle, where so many have recently stumbled. If your offering isn’t exciting enough to inspire trading up, but not enough of a bargain to satisfy the treasure hunters, you’ll have no emotional connection with your target audience. And, like General Motors or Sears in recent years, your tried-and-true marketing strategies will go into a severe stall. Mind Control for Fun and Profit

As one of the few men who can fake a sexual orgasm, I admit to having no problem with improvisation, fabrication or outright deceit. In truth, isn’t the Art of Deception a big part of life? Indeed, isn’t being lied to by men and women with openly sincere faces — men and women who promise to be honest with us — the very foundation of our political system?

And in the world of commerce, don’t most advertisements — particularly TV commercials –exaggerate, overstate and misrepresent the virtues of their products? That’s why the time-honored dictum of “Buyer beware!” resonates with us. Not everything we hear in an advertisement is going to be true. In fact, most of it is going to be intentionally misleading.

But I draw the line at subliminal advertising. Why? Because subliminal advertising, by definition, is insidious and sneaky. It’s one thing for, say, a wrinkle-removing cream to boldly claim to remove facial wrinkles (when it actually can’t and won’t), but it’s a whole other deal for that wrinkle commercial to sneak in an image for a mere one-hundredth of a second that is intended to implant in our brain a negative response to a competitor. An image designed to have us scorn a competing wrinkle cream.

What if a Pepsi commercial were to flash, for one-hundredth of a second, an image of a horribly disfigured person drinking a can of Coke? An image so grotesque that our brains register a profoundly negative reaction to Coke. Mind you, that image isn’t on the screen long enough to be noticed by the conscious mind, but it’s there long enough to be noticed by the unconscious mind, hence the term “subliminal.”

If Pepsi had flashed that image enough times during the Super Bowl, they might have gotten the results they were seeking. With a reported 114 million people having watched the game, if even one-percent of the audience were to “get” the message, it would mean that more than a million people might possibly stop drinking Coca-Cola and switch over to Pepsi.

The reason I mention this is because I think I may have been exposed to one of those subliminal ads. Prior to the Super Bowl, one of my favorite snack foods was pork rinds. Prior to the Super Bowl I positively loved pork rinds. I couldn’t get enough of them. But after watching the game, I found myself becoming nauseated at the very thought of them.

Clearly, something happened to me during those three and a half hours. Pork rinds not only no longer appeal to me, they have lost their meaning. They make no sense to me. Is it possible that a competing chip manufacturer had run some ads during that game, ones intended to subliminally turn me against pork rinds? I’ll have to do some research.

The Style in Inherent Vice Will Blow Your Mind

inherent-vice-orange-short-dress

I haven’t made it to the theater to catch Inherent Vice yet, but have multiple confirmations that it’s completely worth the price of a ticket. Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role, while Katherine Waterston has been getting all kinds of style buzz, both from The New York Times and Nikki (she did us all a solid and rounded up her best red carpet moments earlier this week).

Watching previews alone was enough to convince me that the retro, ’70s costumes within would be stunning and Anna confirmed they are indeed pretty fantastic. Before you read any further, be warned: You’re going to spend the rest of the day pining for a mod shift, a beach-vacation day dress, or a slinky evening gown (and probably all three).

In big-time fashion flicks, it can feel like the guys get looked over, with all that delicious wardrobe energy focused on the women in the films. This looks to not be the case here, with Joaquin and Owen Wilson both getting to rock some vintage-looking pieces that I’d like to see in my own closet.

Prenuptial Agreements for Peace of Mind and Post-Coital Bliss

New love, so intoxicating we believe it will last forever. The desire to take care of and provide for “until death do us part” co-exists with harsher facts. One-third of couples go their separate ways well before dying. Face it. Divorce is a kind of death.

A conversation about terminating one’s vows while creating a wedding gifts registry seems unromantic.

Because a topic is awkward and sensitive does not mean it should be avoided. For many couples having an early discussion–properly conducted–about the possible end of their relationship can actually draw a couple closer together as well as potentially avoid problems down the road.

Recent news about the divorce of billionaire oil man Harold Hamm and wife Sue Ann Arnall captured my attention. Ms. Arnall is contesting the $ 1 billion she was awarded by an Oklahoma court, claiming she is entitled more of her husband’s $ 18 billion fortune. The lack of a prenup in the Hamm’s 26-year marriage could serve as a wake-up call to the rest of us.

Four of us, from different disciplines sat down to discuss some of the things couples should be thinking about well before they walk down the aisle. In that discussion was: a therapist (me), Tara Fass; a financial planner, Lewis Perkins; a family lawyer, Maryanne Golsan; and a mediator, Hali Ziff. All agreed that the prenup forces us to simultaneously talk about love, money, and the law – which we acknowledge sounds like the opening line of a bad joke.

Before we begin, a professional warning is in order: What follows is incomplete and not to be construed as professional advice. Family law is highly circumstantial and state laws differ widely. Because each of us practices in southern California our discussion pertains to the realities of California, a state widely considered on the forefront of social change.

Most think of a prenup being for partners entering matrimony with unequal means.  The retro-model is a high-earning man demanding his pretty young bride sign a prenup before they tie the knot, however, is changing. Today the big earner is often a woman, and the big earner at the beginning might not be the same one at the end. So, unpredictability provides one good reason for both parties to define terms at the outset.

Another rationale is illustrated by the acrimony hijacking many split-ups. Tragically children can become little more than pawns in the game and end up as collateral damage. Legal proceedings often drag on for years to the attorneys’ benefit.

Couples who tackle big problems together early deepen their intimacy. If war is too important to be left to the generals, then prenups are too important to be left primarily to the lawyers. Clearly, financial matters will be at the center of the conversation so the expertise of a financial planner is very useful.

Given the emotional delicacy, the presence of a therapist can be essential.

We four concur: Prenups should be de rigueur in modern marriages. We believe the negotiation process and lively, though at times gut wrenching, can render a living document that actually frees up good will, so precious to nurturing a worthwhile marriage.

Here are a few things to think about when considering a prenup:

Enforceability: We are of one mind on this issue. You owe it to yourselves to work with a family law professional, even if a business lawyer friend or acquaintance tells you a premarital agreement is just another contract, it is not. You need an expert fully versed in the changing public policy issues and the nuances of family law relevant to enforcement decades down the road. For example, in California and many other states, the agreement can only cover property division and spousal support, but cannot touch issues of child support, visitation rights, religion, or state of residence.

Softening the Blow: Being generous within reason can lead to a gentler, kinder ambiance surrounding the negotiation. As fortunes may rise and fall during the course of a marriage, it makes sense to avoid promises to pay out lump-sums, the naming a specific asset, or fixing a dollar amount now. No one can predict the growth or decline in assets and incomes, inflation, wild financial success or even bankruptcy.

Reasonability: As a therapist I’ve seen it many times–long-term satisfaction begins with realistic expectations. Unreasonably high expectations can lead to disappointment, resentment, and anger–which do not bode well for a successful marriage. Best to strive for transparency, air matters out early and deal with hidden motivations, especially more nefarious ones.

Fair Play: Most legal experts recommend that each party have their own representation (attorney) to ensure that the more powerful party does not take advantage of the weaker one. Typically, each party’s lawyers review the agreement before signing, but interactions between two attorneys can become adversarial. We suggest using a mediator to harmonize both partners’ interests with input from experts such as financial planners and therapists as the gold standard.

Mediators also tend to be skillful collaborators and more inclined to embrace the emotional dimensions of these negotiations. Taking your prenup seriously has other advantages for goal tuning, as well as investment and estate planning.

Future Windfalls: You may be lucky enough to inherit money from elders. Parents and grandparents are often uneasy about leaving dosh that may fall under the control of a son-in-law or daughter-in-law. Explicitly addressing this in the prenup, provides reassurances for your generous relatives. Besides, they can provide a good “excuse” (if you need one) for why a prenup is wise, even essential. On the other hand, you may have children of your own, or an ‘ex,’ from a prior marriage whom your support.

It’s best to think about the prenuptial agreement less as an exit strategy than as a worst-case contingency plan with additional benefits for your relationship. Planning ahead when it’s well done, can make everyone feel safer and more secure in the present while it reduces the chances of catastrophic consequences in the future.

The Compassionate Mind Approach to Beating Overeating

The Compassionate Mind Approach to Beating Overeating

This self-help book explores the problems created by having ready access to high fat foods designed to taste good. Because we evolved in conditions of relative scarcity we have few natural food inhibitors and so most diet books try to encourage people to inhibit their eating by highly rule governed behaviours which have to be constantly worked at. However, this can lead to various forms of self-criticism which can undermine efforts at self-control. As a result our relationship with eating can be complex, multifaceted and problematic. Beating Overeating Using Compassion Focused Therapy uses Compassion Focused Therapy – a groundbreaking new therapeutic approach – to understand and work with our urges and passions for food. We can learn to enjoy and accept food and pay attention to our biological and emotional needs. This book is for people who have tried diets and found that they don’t work and will enable the reader to have a healthier and happier relationship with food and their body. Topics covered: ? The relationship between our brains and food, the evolutionary background to finding, conserving and eating food ? How too much or too little food affects the brain, why diets don’t work, factors affecting our eating behaviour (tastes, stress, comfort, etc) ? Body shape and culture ? Developing an inner compassion for one’s relationship with food – recognising what we need and what is helpful

A Mind Of Her Own: The evolutionary psychology of women

A Mind Of Her Own: The evolutionary psychology of women

When Darwin proposed that females shape evolution by being choosy in their choice of male suitors, his Victorian contemporaries were shocked that he accorded so much importance to women. But this early view of the female role was far from revolutionary: They were simply allowed to be passive ‘quality controllers’ of male genes. Recent years have shown that the inert ‘coy female’ is a myth. For a male, a high sex drive and a taste for variety may improve his fitness. But for a female, successful reproduction goes far beyond copulation. She bears the brunt of parental investment with each child represents years of commitment from pregnancy and breast-feeding to provisioning and guarding. For her genetic lineage to survive, she must do this better than her rivals. Each of us comes from a line of winning mothers. Women are, after all, the first and default sex. It is women who bear children. A child born with a single X chromosome can survive, but not one with a single Y. In a population crash, a female-biased population will survive far better than a male-heavy one. In this book, Anne Campbell redresses the balance of evolutionary theory in favour of women. She examines how selection pressures have shaped the female mind over thousands of generations: Their emotions, friendship, competition, aggression and mate choice. She brings together data from neuroscience, endocrinology, anthropology, primatology as well as psychology to address fundamental questions about sex differences. Why are women less aggressive than men? Were women designed for monogamy or promiscuity? What do women compete for? Why is conflict between males and females inevitable? What makes each woman unique? Have contraception and IVF subverted the process of natural selection?

9 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Mind

By Taylor Kubota for Men’s Journal

Whether it’s becoming a Sudoku champion or remembering the name of someone you just met, everyone probably wishes they could muster up a little extra brain power. There are no quick fixes when it comes to improving or the preventing decline of cognitive functions like memory, info processing or critical thinking but there are some very basic steps you can take to keep your brain as healthy as possible.

“A lot of things that should be recommend for reducing dementia are actually just common sense and work for general health too,” says Dr. Joe Verghese, professor of neurology and medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “The challenge is getting people to do it.” Eating right, exercising and staying mentally active top the list of brain health boosters but they aren’t the only options.

1. Keep Learning
A lot of research has found that education provides some protection from waning mental function. The theory is that people with more education have a greater cognitive reserve, basically something of an extra buffer against the effects of decline. But it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. “People who are more highly educated tend to get Alzheimer’s at a later age but once they get it, they’re getting it at a higher load of the disease and appear to decline at a faster rate,” says Verghese.

2. Do A Crossword
crossword
Even if you’re not looking to jump back into school, you can still use other forms of mental activity to give your mind a workout. “Education gives you a boost earlier in life — it builds up your cognitive muscle — but in older life, if you want to maintain that advantage, you have to continue taking part in mentally stimulating activities,” says Verghese. He conducted a study of 488 adults over the age of 75 and found that doing cognitive activities — like crossword puzzles, reading or playing music — actually delayed the onset of memory decline among people who eventually developed dementia. The results showed that for every cognitively active day, dementia was delayed by about two months.

3. Ignore Negativity
Stereotype threat occurs when a person is in a situation where they are anxious that they may conform to a negative stereotype aimed at his or her social group. Stereotype threat stemming from beliefs about age and memory loss can hinder the performance of middle-ages and older people on memory tests. However, positive stereotypes, or success on previous memory tasks, can help combat this negativity. Oddly enough, stereotype threat has also been shown to improve performance when tasks are focused on losses rather than gains.

4. Use All Of Your Senses
Sensory memory consists of iconic (visual), echoic (auditory) and haptic (touch-related) memory and is usually very short-term. Yet studies – often stemming from marketing research – have shown that involving multiple senses, like the picture of a flower with a floral scent, enhances people’s ability to memorize what their senses are taking in.

5. Socialize
friends chatting
While many studies have found an association between social support and better cognitive functioning, it’s hard to tell which one causes the other. A 2008 study that looks at retired people found that memory among people who were least socially integrated declined twice as much as in people who were most socially integrated. Researchers have suggested that socializing may help our minds because it encourages people to take better care of themselves, reduces stress and releases beneficial neurohormones, stemming from the emotions usually caused by being with loved ones.

6. Don’t Multitask
Many of us may prize ourselves on our multitasking prowess but science generally shows that splitting our attention is more problematic than productive. One study looking at working memory — quick storage of information — had younger and older adults perform recognition tests with or without interruptions. They found that adults of all ages get sidetracked by interferences but that older adults have a harder time refocusing after they’ve been distracted.

7. Spaced Interval Repetition
If you’ve ever had to memorize something, you are probably familiar with spaced interval repetition (SIR). SIR is a learning technique that uses repeated testing over increasing intervals until it whatever you’re trying to memorize finally sticks. So you test yourself a lot at first, then less and less over time. It sounds really basic but SIR is a well-supported way to get the most out of your memory – and a reason there are so many new smartphone apps that follow this technique.

8. Exercise
jogging
The hippocampus — the part of the brain critical to the formation of long-term memory — typically shrinks as we age, which can contribute to memory impairment and dementia. Fortunately, exercise (which is already great for our health) may actually reverse this shrinking. One study found the effects of exercise increased hippocampus volume by an amount equal to what older people lose in one to two years. “Studies have shown that exercise improves blood flow to the brain and it also stimulates production of nerve growth factors,” says Verghese. Even just six minutes of exercise post-learning can help boost memory.

9. Eat Right
There is a well-documented link between what we eat and how our brains function. One study showed that putting rats on a high sugar diet for a mere six weeks impaired their cognitive functioning. Being overweight has also been tied to increases in mental health problems. If you just can’t get enough of your high-fructose corn syrup, the researchers also found that consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids — like salmon, walnuts and soybeans — may help counter sugar’s brain drain.

Farrah Abraham Announces New Year’s Resolution To Focus On ‘Mind And Soul’

Is Farrah Abraham ready to put mind over body in 2014?

The “Teen Mom” star announced in a recent video that her New Year’s resolution is to focus on her “mind and soul,” rather than her body in 2014.

Dec 27, 2013 | #NEWYEARS Resolution!? #CountDown 2014 Video @Keek by f1abraham on Keek.com

She rang in the new year by “kissing (her) freedom,” in the form of a shot.

In 2013, Abraham debuted her breast augmentation, a porno with James Deen, and a line of sex toys modeled after her own privates. She will begin 2014 by appearing on VH1’s “Couples Therapy” as the show’s first ever solo participant. She was initially supposed to appear on the show with boyfriend Brian Dawe, but he backed out at the last moment. Dawe later revealed to Starcasm that his relationship with Abraham had been a sham, concocted to get her on “Couples Therapy,” and that he could not, in good conscience, go through with the plan.

700 Hot Air Balloons. One Mind Blowing Time Lapse Video.

If we had to guess, we’d suspect watching 700 hot air balloons float into the sunrise would be quite a sight to behold. But our wildest imagination couldn’t prepare us for the spectacle that is the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. The nine day event features hundreds of inflatable vehicles going up, up and away for all to drool at. We didn’t go, but we experienced the next best thing: this time lapse.

This jealousy-inducing video was uploaded by the folks at RoadTrippers.com, who provided an adrenaline-rush-inducing explanation of the festival’s events.

“When the field finally starts to empty, your heart starts to beat and you jump in your vehicle to chase after the still flying balloons. The balloons land anywhere they can in Albuquerque. From school yards, to back yards to the middle of the street, the whole community unites to pull the balloons from the sky and celebrate those rides of a lifetime.”

Watch it. Watch it again. Then rent the “Wizard of Oz” and “Up.” We don’t judge.
