Balmain Opens Miami Flagship

PARIS — Looking to bolster its retail and wholesale channels across the United States, Balmain, ahead of Art Basel Miami Beach, has cut the ribbon on a 2,220-square-foot Miami flagship located at Bal Harbour Shops. Next month will see the opening of a 1,555-square-foot Las Vegas boutique, set within a wing of the Wynn Plaza.
Conceived by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing in partnership with three young architects from Paris’ Studio AMV — Anna Philippou, Marie-Charlotte Prosperi-Fouchard and Victoire Guerlay — the interior design for both stores was based on the brand’s Milan flagship, which opened in April. The direction channels the codes of the classic Parisian hôtel particulier while integrating hi-tech features, such as the My City of Lights virtual reality concept that debuted in Milan.

Massimo Piombini, chief executive officer of Balmain, spoke of “the strong bond between Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing and America.”
Among what drew the brand to the respective cities, Miami is “a very important destination for the Latin American consumer — and Balmain has long been popular with that shopper, as well,” Piombini said.
For Las Vegas, the main draw was the prime real estate: the Wynn Plaza, a new retail destination on

Carbon38’s First Retail Store Opens in Palisades Village

E-commerce destination Carbon38 is now a bicoastal brick-and-mortar presence with the graduation of its Bridgehampton pop-up to permanent status, and next week’s opening of a newly built boutique in Palisades Village.
Like the other boutiques in the retail center, Carbon38 was able to impart its own design aesthetic on the exterior as well as the interior. The 1,141-square-foot store designed by Montalba Architects features a blackened steel storefront and charred wood canopy riffing on the “carbon” in Carbon38, while the inside is clean, white Calcutta marble.

The interior of Carbon 38’s Palisades Village store.

The store will carry items from the brand’s most recent collaborations with Cushnie, Alala and Selkie and offer complimentary tailoring, private shopping events, in-store panel discussions and a bar-style “community table” where customers can learn about the brand and product.
“We’ve been traipsing around different neighborhoods across the globe for a while, but I wanted our first store to be in our hometown,” said cofounder and chief executive officer Katie Warner Johnson. “Spaces and architecture are so important to us, and it’s rare to be walking into a space that’s wet clay, and a gift that it’s so close to home.”

Pomellato Opens New Beverly Hills Boutique

Milanese jewelry house Pomellato has returned to Beverly Hills after a two-year absence with a new boutique at 214 North Rodeo Drive in the Two Rodeo Drive complex.
The flagship’s design blends California style with Pomellato’s Italian craftsmanship, unconventional luxury and contemporary style within its 1,700-square-foot space. The Los Angeles boutique reflects Pomellato’s new store concept, created by Dimore Studio. With its signature lacquered Montenapoleone red on the facade and the iconic band ring featured as a door handle, the store recalls midcentury classic architecture.
The house’s signature is “new precious” gemstones — unconventional colored gems that extend beyond the traditional classics. Established in 1967 in congruence with California’s Summer of Love as well as the women’s movement, Pomellato introduced the prêt-à- porter jewel concept for the independent woman. Pomellato’s iconic collections such as Montenapoleone, Iconic, Sabbia, M’Ama Non M’Ama and Nudo are all displayed in the store.
The interior is divided into three areas whose walls are embellished with a texture of gold chains and oval lines, repeated in the surrounding furnishings. Midway through the boutique, the signature graphic carpet lays on the floor as a warm and colorful reminder of the brand’s heritage.

Muytjens Switches Gears, Opens Inn in Berkshires

Frank Muytjens has traded fashion for hospitality.
The former men’s chief has partnered with artist and entrepreneur Scott Edward Cole to open a luxury bed-and-breakfast inn in the Berkshires. Called the Inn at Kenmore Hall, it will open today.
The inn at 1385 State Road in Richmond, Mass., is a 6,675-square-foot, 18th-century estate that has been restored and modernized while conserving its historical Georgian architecture. It sits on 20 acres of woodlands, orchards and gardens in a town that is around two-and-a-half hours from Manhattan and one-and-a-half hours from Boston.
The inn will have five luxury rooms, each with a working wood-burning fireplace. There is also a one-bedroom carriage house suite with living room, kitchenette, sleeper sofa and private outdoor seating area. Pricing ranges from $ 450 to $ 650 a night.
“The minute we saw the property, we both knew that it would be our next endeavor,” Muytjens said. “Scott and I love the fact that the house has fostered so many artistic explorations. The deep-rooted creative history, combined with the stunning classical proportions of the Georgian architecture, is grand but not imposing. We have worked to preserve the architectural integrity, but imbue the inn with modern luxury.”
He added that after parting ways with J. Crew,

Gabriela Artigas & Co., the 10-year-old Los Angeles-based jewelry brand that wholesales in more than 70 brick-and-mortar stores globally, has opened its first retail store at 7970 Melrose Avenue, a stone’s throw from Reformation, G-Star, Adidas Originals, Revolve showroom, Fred Segal and Jonathan Adler.

Harrys of London Opens New York Flagship

NEW YORK — Charles Cohen is just getting started.
It was just over a year ago that the billionaire commercial real estate developer purchased Harrys of London, a U.K.-based footwear and accessories label. And today, Cohen has opened the doors to the brand’s first retail store, a boutique with 770 square feet of selling space on Park Avenue and 57th Street. The store is adjacent to a space that will house a 2,000-square-foot Richard James store, the other British men’s wear brand in which Cohen bought a majority stake last March. That store is expected to open in late August.
Both brands were personal favorites of Cohen’s and were searching for new owners, so the developer stepped up and purchased them. But he’s hardly been an absentee owner. He serves as chairman for both labels and has immersed himself in reinventing the brands by modernizing and updating them.
“It’s been an exciting adventure,” Cohen said. “And it’s gone better than I ever imagined.” In fact, he said he’s just about to finalize his third fashion acquisition, one that will be “complementary” to Harrys and Richard James. He declined to provide more details, but said this one is not a British brand.
At Harrys, Cohen parted ways

Chanel Opens Coco Crush Pop-Up at Le Bon Marché

DOCTOR DOCTOR: Do you have a Coco Crush? Chanel believes it has a cure for women obsessed with its bestselling jewelry line: The French luxury house has opened a pop-up space at the Paris department store Le Bon Marché where the collection is presented in a playful format dubbed Coco Lab.
Shoppers are greeted by a mock doctor who runs a series of tests before filling out a prescription of rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings for the “patient” to try on. The stand, located on the first floor of the store, will remain open until June 24, with the fake medic on call between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. from Friday to Sunday.
Launched initially as a capsule collection on Net-a-porter.com in 2015, the Coco Crush collection has since become a pillar of the brand’s jewelry offer, said Frédéric Grangié, head of the house’s watch and jewelry division.
“It’s important to maintain a freedom of tone,” he said. “This concept, which is very joyful and unusual, is a way of showing that you can develop an iconic line like Coco Crush in a way that is both serious and humorous.”

Suitsupply has become a go-to spot for Millennial men seeking fashionable, modern tailored clothing. And so the Amsterdam-based company is moving into one of the neighborhoods where they spend a lot of their time: Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
On Thursday night, Suitsupply threw a party to celebrate the opening of its new store at 57 Wythe Avenue, just steps away from the Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Bowl.
This store joins the company’s units in SoHo, on Madison Avenue and in Brookfield Place in Manhattan, but is its first in a borough.

Wacoal Opens First U.S. Flagship

Wacoal has opened its first U.S. store within The Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey.
After primarily focusing on wholesale distribution within retailers including Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor and Macy’s Inc., the intimate apparel brand is venturing into its own brick-and-mortar space.
“We are growing internationally and online, but our main business is working in store with customers,” said Bob Vitale, the chief executive officer of Wacoal America. “We hear that a high percentage of shoppers don’t shop in the intimate apparel department. There are a lot of customers who aren’t seeing Wacoal. We thought this was a great way to bring our brand proposition to the customer.”
According to Vitale, department stores view the shop as something positive and the goal isn’t to take away from wholesale business but grow the business overall.
The 1,950-square-foot shop will feature Wacoal and B. Tempt’d, Wacoal’s line targeting younger customers. Vitale said they wanted to offer an elevated shopping experience and an array of product that comes in various fashion colors and is sized from A through I cup. Associates will have access to iPads so customers can order items online if they aren’t in stock.

Alton Lane Opens Flagship in TriBeCa

NEW YORK — Alton Lane is going big for its 13th store.
The custom men’s wear brand on Friday will debut an 1,800-square-foot store at 7 Harrison Street in TriBeCa, its most ambitious and highest-profile opening to date.
“We view this as our flagship,” said Colin Hunter, cofounder and chief executive officer.
Alton Lane was founded in 2009 by Hunter and his college buddy Peyton Jenkins to offer high-end custom clothing and furnishings at an affordable price. The company uses 3-D body-scanning technology and offers a one-on-one experience in a relaxed environment.
The company also operates a store in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, but that location on the fifth floor is more of a destination. Because the brand has so many customers that live or work downtown, it made sense to open a store in that area.
“We looked for an opportunity for a location that was more accessible,” Hunter said of the bright, corner space in TriBeCa.
In addition to a large assortment of fabric books and a variety of fit models of suits, sport coats and dress shirts, the store also features a fully stocked bar with bourbon from Elijah Craig, a private poker room, several televisions and seating areas.

John Legend Opens Up About Playing Jesus: He ‘Was a Bit of a Revolutionary’

He sang about “Ordinary People,” but John Legend is taking on an extraordinary role.

The Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner, 39, will play the title role in NBC’s upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert — and PEOPLE caught up with Legend before he takes the stage on Easter Sunday to talk growing up in church and how he got into character for the beloved rock opera.

“ imagined what a real human being would think going through betrayal and the challenge of joining together with your friends to fight against oppression. My job is to embody that,” Legend, 39, tells PEOPLE of playing the Son of God alongside Sara Bareilles (Mary Magdalene) and Alice Cooper (King Herod).

Adds the performer: “I think Jesus in real life was a bit of a revolutionary — he was somebody who was disrupting the status quo and provided an example for how we could all love each other, how we think about people who have been looked down upon and what it means to sacrifice oneself for something that you believe in.”

Legend grew up in a “very Christian” home in Springfield, Ohio, where his mother was a choir director, his grandmother a church organist and his grandfather a pastor.

“The message I took from growing up in church was the idea of loving your neighbor, giving to others and treating people as you would want to be treated,” says Legend. “You can learn those things in any religion or without religion, but that’s where I did.”

And the star says his childhood in the church changed his life.

“I was in choir rehearsals every week as a kid, and I took over the choir when I was older,” he says. “That was the foundation of my career; I wouldn’t be where I am without playing gospel music in church.”

Tom Brady Opens Up About Super Bowl Loss and Balancing Football and Family

Along with giving a deeper look at his family, Tom Brady is looking to answer one question with his new Facebook Watch docu-series: “What does it really take for a 40-year-old to play in the NFL?”

In a candid interview with ABC’s Michael Strahan, the New England Patriots quarterback opened up about the six-episode series, Tom vs Time, and continuing to play football at 40 years old.

“There’s a real love for the sport, a love for the game, and a love for the competition … it’s really something I really relish,” Brady said. “As long as I feel good, as long as I continue to work hard and make the commitment — it requires a lot of discipline, that’s one thing God had given me when I was young.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

He also opened up about his team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in this year’s Super Bowl.

“I think you realize the sun comes up the next morning, your life goes on but, you know, those games live with you for the rest of your life,” Brady said. “That’s part of being an athlete. That’s part of being in a very competitive sport.”

“I’m proud of our efforts throughout the year,” he continued. “We overcame a lot of adversity, like you always do in order to get to that game. But we just came up a little bit short.”

In the docu-series, fans also get an intimate look at the athlete’s balancing act between football and family.

“I have a wife that is very, aspires to be a lot of things and she travels a lot. My oldest son lives here in New York,” he said. “Three kids and you’re just always trying to juggle and you want to be there for them and you want to be there for the hockey games and the soccer games, but you also realize the level of commitment it takes to give as much as you can to the team that needs you.”

“I think most professionals probably feel the same way,” he added. “Sometimes it gets out of balance, and you’ve got to figure out how to bring it back to a point where it feels great for everybody involved.”

Brady has five championships under his belt, making him the first quarterback in NFL history to boast the accomplishment. He told Strahan that he’s managed to last so long in the sport with hard work and determination.

“When your priorities are in order then you can make decisions based on what your priorities are,” he said. “I believe you can extend your career as a lot of athletes are trying to do now.”

RELATED: Gisele Bündchen & Tom Brady’s Adorable Family Photo Album

However, Brady admitted he hasn’t always made the best choices in his athletic career.

“I would say I was a very late bloomer through high school and early into college … my routine and the things that I did weren’t very good. They weren’t very conducive to my goals,” Brady told Strahan.

RELATED VIDEO: Gisele Bündchen Shares Super-Romantic Smooch With Husband Tom Brady at Sister’s Wedding

“It got to a point early in my career where I didn’t envision myself being able to continue to play because my arm hurt so bad all the time.”

The athlete said he made several changes to his routine, tweaks that have landed him a lengthy career. And the pro footballer said he’s happy to let fans into his world.

“I felt like I really wanted to show people all the things I had learned over the years; all the things that were really important to me,” he said. “And show some of the fans — and a lot of the patriots fans — really what it takes to continue to try to achieve at a really high level.”

Louis Vuitton Opens Sneaker Pop-Up in New York

Ugly sneakers have stampeded into luxury fashion to become the improbable “it” shoe in the last year. So much so that Louis Vuitton, where Nicolas Ghesquiere introduced the Nineties sci-fi Archlight with a generously proportioned cushy sole for spring, is opening a pop-up shop specifically devoted to the style for a month in New York City. The temporary store will open at 122 Greene Street in SoHo on Thursday in advance of the worldwide launch of the Archlight sneaker on Feb. 23. The store will remain open until March 10. The SoHo space, chosen because the sneaker clientele tends to be a downtown crowd, and designed by the Louis Vuitton team, will be the only sneaker pop-up — the house has done fragrance pop-ups in the past — and will carry an exclusive all-black colorway of the style. Sneakers aren’t new for Vuitton but the Archlight was a major statement on Ghesquiere’s spring runway, shown in contrast to the elaborate 18th-century inspired ready-to-wear pieces.

The Louis Vuitton Archlight sneaker in all black will be exclusive to the SoHo pop-up.

Boucheron Opens Vendôrama Show With Evening Event

MINGLING AT THE MINT: Guests at Boucheron’s interactive Vendôrama anniversary exhibit began their journey at the back door of the 18th-century Hôtel de la Monnaie. Who would guess that it would open on to a graffitied tunnel?
The uninitiated might be forgiven for missing the references in the tags: 1858 — that would be the year the house founder Frédéric Boucheron opened his first store — and Quatre for the jewelry line launched in 2004.
Inside a temporary exhibit space sitting in the courtyard, visitors were served up a mix of screens, live actors, and jewelry displays, set amidst rich green foliage including ivy — a traditional inspiration for the house. Even the guidebook was interactive, with pages folding out to reveal details of the jewelry on display.
“There’s a rock ‘n roll feel to it that I like,” said Charlotte Rampling, noting the unexpected presentation style, as the lighting on a collection of Quatre rings suddenly switched off behind her, making them disappear for a spell.

A Florida store has long been on the wish list for Stephane Cremieux, chief executive officer of Cremieux and son of founder Daniel Cremieux. “Ever since the brand was founded, we wanted to open a store in Florida,” he said. “So when this opportunity came up, we took it.”
He said the recently renovated Royal Poinciana center is “a special place” with a curated assortment of luxury brands. “You can’t call it a mall. It’s like being in a summer house with fountains, lots of green and palm trees.” The center is home to 30 stores including Cynthia Rowley, Hermès, Magasin, Orlebar Brown and Serenella.
The design of the Cremieux store is very reminiscent of Saint-Tropez, he said, with photos of the French Riviera and

Happy Socks Opens New York Flagship

Happy Socks is embarking on its largest retail push in North America.
In September, the Swedish sock brand, which was launched in 2008, revealed that it ended its license deal with United Legwear and starting in January it would operate in the U.S. market directly — under the United Legwear deal, they opened a store in SoHo in 2013.
This space, which is located at 448 West Broadway, a couple shops away from its original store, has served as a pop-up for Hysteria, Happy Sock’s recently launched women’s line, but now it will act as a permanent flagship.
The 518-square-foot store will sell Hysteria along with Happy Socks’ entire assortment including Dressed, its line of men’s dress socks, and the Happy Socks branded collection including collaborative product.
“This is our chance to get close to our customers and give them the full Happy Socks experience where our experiential values come to life in the shop. Interacting with our products, mixing and matching the styles and meeting our amazing store staff is key,” said My Johansson, retail operations manager at Happy Socks. “Our concept store is a great way to spread the brand knowledge and connect with other colorful enjoyers of life. Lutwyche Opens Bespoke Shop on Madison Avenue

The British invasion into New York City continues.
Following in the footsteps of Huntsman and Thom Sweeney, two U.K. tailors that recently set up shop in the city, Lutwyche has also entered the fray.
The London-based bespoke maker has opened an appointment-only shop at 717 Madison Avenue, where it will create custom clothing for customers from an upscale location on the third floor.
The brand was founded by Tony Lutwyche in 2000 and currently offers bespoke and made-to-measure clothing as well as a small ready-to-wear collection. The ready-to-wear is carried at several Saks Fifth Avenue stores and Lutwyche also hosts trunk shows at the Saks stores twice a year.
His new 3,000-square-foot shop will not carry the ready-to-wear but will focus exclusively on custom and made-to-measure clothing.
Before starting his business, Lutwyche attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and was a major in the cavalry. It was there that he got his first taste for sartorial dressing when he had to buy his officer’s uniforms from Savile Row tailors. “They were reassuringly expensive,” he said, “but the experience was disappointing and the product was great, but musty.”
Once his military service ended — and a short stint in the banking world proved not to his

Thom Sweeney Opens First Store Outside the U.K. in New York

NEW YORK — Thom Sweeney is making a statement with its first U.S. store.
The London-based brand that got its start as a bespoke maker in 2006, today will take the wraps off a 3,000-square-foot store at 362 West Broadway in SoHo — its first unit outside its home country.
The store stocks the brand’s ready-to-wear — which it started producing in 2013 — and has a large room dedicated to fittings for its signature made-to-measure and custom garments. It also features a special cutting room where a U.K.-based cutter will visit once a month to tend to clients along with a bar and lounge areas to encourage customers to stay a while.
“We think it stands out because there’s nothing else in the area like it,” said Thom Whiddett, who founded the brand with Luke Sweeney.
The two men met while they were both working for British tailor Timothy Everest — Whiddett as an apprentice and Sweeney as the head of the made-to-measure department. They decided to team to create the Thom Sweeney label, setting up shop in a small apartment in Mayfair, where they took private orders.
In 2009, they opened a bespoke studio in a former art gallery on Weighhouse Street, followed

Drew Barrymore Opens Pop-up in NYC for Dear Drew

“I really appreciate the modern world, but I’m definitely an old-fashioned girl,” said Drew Barrymore, the actress and entrepreneur who’s behind the new Dear Drew collection, which launched on Amazon Fashion last month. Today, Barrymore will open a pop-up boutique at 14 Crosby Street in New York to showcase Dear Drew apparel, handbags, jewelry, luggage, hair tools and loungewear.
The 2,000-square-foot boutique, which was designed in-house by Barrymore Brands’ design team over the past month, has a nostalgic, timeless feeling, with an oversized mailbox and an inspiration mood board collage in the front window, a sewing machine and vintage typewriter on a writing desk on display. There are three roomy dressing rooms in the back and a cozy living room area, complete with couches upon which to relax and have conversation, while Champagne, water and tea are served. “We really wanted this to be a space you want to hang out in,” said the 42-year-old Barrymore.
She said that generally, she tries on clothing in the privacy of her own home, and she wanted to create that homey atmosphere. “I think trying on clothes can be a raw and horrifying experience,” said Barrymore, who sought to add warmth and old-world charm to

Todd Snyder Opens City Gym 2.0 Pop-up in Flatiron District

NEW YORK — The Todd Snyder brand has grown quite a bit since the first City Gym opened in collaboration with Champion Sportswear in NoLIta in 2013.
Not only has the label been sold to American Eagle Outfitters, but the designer has operated his own eponymous store in the Madison Park district for the last year. He has also kept busy working on collaborations with brands as varied as Timex and New Era.
But Snyder still found the time to whip up the second iteration of his original retail concept, a pop-up called City Gym 2.0 that opens today at 108 Fifth Ave. at 16th Street.
“The first one did so well, it was open for 1 and a half years,” he said during a walk-through of the store on Thursday. “We had an opportunity to take over this space, so we decided to open City Gym 2.0, a more modern take on what we did downtown.”
The original pop-up had more of a locker room aesthetic, but this has “more of a heritage vibe,” he said.
The store, located across from the Google pop-up, formerly housed North Sails. As a result, Snyder said the location didn’t require a lot of heavy lifting to convert

Selena Gomez Opens Up About Battle with Lupus and Feeling ‘Guilty’ About Her Fame

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Selena Gomez is looking at her battle with lupus and resulting kidney transplant as a “beautiful thing.”

In part two of her interview on Today with friend and kidney donor Francia Raisa, the 25-year-old singer said she doesn’t want anyone to feel bad for her.

“I don’t want people to think it’s a sad thing that I went through this with Francia or with anything in my life,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “Because at the end of the day, I think all the stuff that I went to made me and defined everything that I am right now. I think it’s a really beautiful thing, and I have to remind myself that it’s not a negative experience.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Gomez said that she often pushed herself too hard despite her diagnosis in 2015.

“I don’t think I made the right decisions, because I didn’t accept it. It was extremely selfish and at the same time really, really just unnecessary,” she said. “I’m not really proud of that.”

When Guthrie suggested Gomez was being hard on herself, the former Disney Channel star replied, “That would be easier if I just accepted it, but I am definitely the hardest person on myself, for sure.”

Gomez took some time off last year to deal with anxiety, panic attacks and depression triggered by the autoimmune disease that affected her entire body from arthritis to low energy.

“I went away to a facility. I took some time off. I needed to get my mind right, be healthy,” she said. “I removed myself from everyone in my life.”

“We went six months without speaking,” Raisa, 29, said. “It was a huge lesson of friendship for me, and trust. Because it’s easy to feel offended or want to be there. It’s just, they need to go through their own thing.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

“I don’t think I ever accepted the position I had,” Gomez said. “It was me almost feeling guilty about fame, because people could see anyone in my position and say, ‘Wow, they’ve got it all figured out. They’ve got everything. They get to live this cool life.’”

However, the “Wolves” singer explained a lot of pressure comes with being in the spotlight.

“You’re isolated. You’re being looked at. You’re being judged. I’m always trying to be nice,” she said. “I want to be great. That’s genuinely who I am, deep down. But it just seemed pointless.”

Last month PEOPLE spoke with a doctor who specializes in transplants for people with immune diseases including lupus, Robert Montgomery, MD, director of the Transplant Institute at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Montgomery told PEOPLE that it’s common for lupus to damage kidneys to the point where one or both need to be replaced. “Not every patient who gets lupus ends up with kidney failure, but some do,” he said.

When lupus patients need organ donations they are often added to a waiting list to be matched with a deceased donor, and they may have to go on dialysis for kidney failure while they wait months or even years. In Gomez’s case, she had Raisa to serve as her live donor, which Dr. Montgomery said is a “great advantage” because “live donor transplants last twice as long, on average, as deceased donor kidneys.”

Raisa said the experience brought them even closer. “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process,” she said.

NEW ARRIVALS: As Seoul Fashion Week drew to a close, 10 of its most promising designer names made their way to London to launch K-Fashion, a new pop-up at Selfridges aimed at spotlighting the best of South Korean design.
The designers created exclusive capsules for the pop-up, which is housed in the women’s designer galleries, on the store’s second floor.
Among the labels on show are Moohong and D-Antidote, which embrace a streetwear sensibility; Nohke, which stands out for its tailored outerwear, Munn, Push Button, Bourie, D.Gnak, Blindness and Resurrection.
Kuho Jung, Seoul Fashion Week’s executive director, said the group of designers, called “10 Soul,” was chosen by a committee that included international and local professionals.
Jung has been spearheading a number of initiatives in order to expose Seoul’s designers to an international audience and has hosted similar events in Milan and Paris.
He said he was drawn to London and to Selfridges, given their international appeal and the opportunity to have direct contact with customers through the pop-up space.
As Korean pop culture gains momentum internationally, Jung’s vision is to create as much interest in Korean design as there is in the country’s beauty industry and music. During the most recent Seoul Fashion Week, he drew

Sam Smith Opens Up on Gender-Fluid Identity: ‘I Feel Just as Much a Woman as I Am a Man’

Sam Smith doesn’t need labels.

In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, the English singer opened up his gender identity, saying he doesn’t consider himself a cisgender man.

“I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man,” he elaborated.

Smith explained that he likes dressing in drag, revealing that he hits up the Australian drag shop House of Priscilla whenever he’s in Sydney, Australia.

“Oh, my god, I just buy everything — heels, dresses,” he said. “We have a great time.”

And this habit is nothing new. The 25-year-old crooner said he used to head to school in women’s clothing as a teen.

“There was one moment in my life where I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really,” he said. “I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr. Martens and huge fur coats, for 2 ½ years.”

RELATED VIDEO: Sam Smith on His Dramatic Weight Loss: ‘I Went to Bed Dreaming of Tuna Melts’

Smith also opened up about coming out as gay, saying, “Looking back on it, it was the fear of saying the wrong thing and offending … And I was 19 when I started writing the first album. I’d just moved to London from a village — I was literally the only gay in the village. I didn’t know what I wanted to say.”

The singer also teased fans with a hint of what his new album Thrill of It All, dropping on Nov. 3, holds.

“I think they show my growth, my confidence. I feel like they show me,” he said. “They show the gay guy I’ve become.”

Earlier this month, Smith attended a performance of the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen — and rumored new boyfriend Brandon Flynn was also there.

His theater outing comes after he was pictured kissing and holding hands with the 13 Reasons Why star while out in Greenwich Village earlier in the day.

Reign Opens in the Meatpacking District

Santino LoConte believed there was something missing from the men’s retail experience in New York.
“You have your department stores, but I’m not a fan of the large format shop-in-shop. It’s a little overwhelming for me to go to Barneys and walk through multiple floors of men’s product,” said LoConte, who is 29. “They do an excellent job, but it’s not a one-stop shop for someone with a certain aesthetic and a certain fashion sense.”
The 1,600-square-foot store, which will open to the public on Oct. 19, is located in the Meatpacking District at 807 Washington Street, which used to be occupied by Nicholas Kirkwood. The space is minimal with a 12-foot circular skylight and a courtyard that will be used for a variety of activations and exhibitions.
The shop is 60 percent ready-to-wear, 30 percent footwear and 10 percent accessories. LoConte has stocked the store with brands including R13, Mr. Completely, Tim Coppens, Public School, Stone Island, Kappa and Maharishi. Going forward the boutique will also carry Issey Miyake’s Pleats Please collection, Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Martine Rose, Rick Owens, Our Legacy and Juun.J, which isn’t being sold at any other retailers in New York. Adidas Opens Largest Originals Store Globally in Chicago With Focus on Local Community

Thursday’s opening of the Adidas Originals flagship in Chicago will be the largest in the world, and the seventh one in the U.S.
With nearly 5,000 square feet of shoppable space, the 10,000-square-foot store at 1532 North Milwaukee Avenue is taking a hyper-local approach. In the never-ending chase to bridge the online community with the in-store experience, the company is playing up the city’s heritage through design accents. A fitting room reflects the materials and route of the L train, with walls wrapped with ribbed brush steel reminiscent of the elevated line’s cars. There is also a bench that is modeled after the ones found in all CTA stations.
The city’s transit system was also the inspiration for custom signs displayed throughout the store, which are similar to the ones displayed on the L train line and in its stations. The Adidas versions direct shoppers to silhouettes from the brand’s past, highlighting the year each model made its debut and other information. Wednesday night’s opening party, featured performances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Knox Fortune and DJ ELZ. The site is near two other streetwear and sneaker stores, RSVP Gallery and Saint Alfred.

EXCLUSIVE: Balenciaga’s Avenue Montaigne Store Opens Sept. 23

INDUSTRIAL CHIC: Balenciaga is to open a boutique Saturday on Avenue Montaigne, transporting the design concept of its minimalist Rue Saint-Honoré store to the tony luxury strip.
The Haussmannian space has been outfitted with industrial touches, such as warehouse conveyor rails, aluminum display tables and slick, gray flooring in resin. Flat benches with thin, khaki-colored velvet cushions contrast with the shell of an old fireplace, original molding and marks from kids who once drew on the walls.
Artwork by American street artist Mark Jenkins is scattered around the store, including the figure of a woman in an oversized, puffy jacket slumped against a smooth, white wall.
With the opening, the brand will count three stores in Paris. The new Avenue Montaigne address, to be Balenciaga’s new Paris flagship, is its second foothold in the golden triangle district, one of the French capital’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Balenciaga has shuttered its men’s store on Rue de Varenne.
The label has a handful of other locations designed under the eye of its artistic director Demna Gvasalia, including in London and on Madison Avenue in New York.

Noah Opens Store in Tokyo

Noah has landed in Tokyo.
The streetwear brand, which was relaunched in 2015 by Brendon Babenzien, the former design director of streetwear brand Supreme, has set up shop in Harajuku with the Noah Clubhouse, a 2,500-square-foot boutique that’s designed to mimic a home rather than a store. Babenzien’s wife, Estelle Bailey-Babenzien, designed the space.
“The goal is for it to be a place where people feel like they can do more than just shop,” said Babenzien. “In New York, the store is really like a home away from home for us. We have friends visit us there. I take meetings there, etc. It’s really not just a place to buy things.”
The two-story Clubhouse features a gallery, library, study area, an open-plan living area and kitchen, a men’s salon, a dressing room and an outdoor balcony. It’s decorated with wooden fixtures and artwork from Oliver Jeffers, Curtis Kulig, Henry Leutwyler and more. The artwork in the gallery will change every six months.
According to Babenzien, Noah has never wholesaled in Japan, so this will be the first time customers can purchase something from a store as opposed to Noah’s e-commerce site. The shop will also be stocked with Tracksmith running apparel, Aprix footwear, Taschen books,

Buly 1803 Opens Eighth Boutique, in Hong Kong

THREE’S A CHARM: “The city is a chaos of smells!” said Victoria de Taillac, a cofounder of Buly 1803, at the opening Wednesday evening of the brand’s first location in Hong Kong.
She was standing outside the store on Wyndham Street, since the boutique itself was so full of people there was hardly room to move.
De Taillac and her husband Ramdane Touhani, who founded the brand in 2014, were capping off a chockablock summer with three openings that brought Buly’s total store count to eight worldwide.
“I would say it has been a very busy summer — [with the] opening of here, the opening of Tokyo, the opening of the second Paris store,” said de Taillac, adding the couple took just five days’ holiday, an atypically short stretch for French business people.
“Trust me, we were very surprised that [in July and August] nobody was off,” said Wen Song, Buly’s partner in Taiwan, referring to the duo.
“We replied all summer — they couldn’t believe it,” de Taillac laughed.

Buly’s Hong Kong store, opened in partnership with Arnault Castel, who founded the Kapok retail chain, features dark wooden finishings and multicolored tiling inspired by an old Italian church.

Angelina Jolie Opens Up in New Interview: ‘I Don’t Enjoy Being Single’

Angelina Jolie is opening up about life after her split from Brad Pitt.

In a new interview with the Sunday Telegraph, the 42-year-old star — who filed for divorce from Pitt last year after a 12-year relationship and two-year marriage — admits that the process has taken a heavy emotional toll on her.

“Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together,” she says. “But really I am just trying to get through my days.”

“I don’t enjoy being single,” she adds. “It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard.”

Jolie, who underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2013, had her ovaries removed in 2015 and last year, in addition to hypertension, developed Bell’s Palsy, says her health issues have also been weighing on her.

“Emotionally it’s been a very difficult year,” she says. “And I have some other health issues. So my health is something I have to monitor.”

“I feel sometimes that my body has taken a hit, but I try to laugh as much as possible,” she adds. “We tend to get so stressed that our children feel our stress when they need to feel our joy. Even if you are going through chemo, you need to find the ability to love and laugh. It may sound like a postcard, but it’s true.”

FROM PEN: Nicole Kidman Learned a ‘Great Life Lesson’ from Baz Luhrmann During Her Divorce

Jolie also discussed her latest directorial offering, First They Killed My Father, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on Saturday and received high praise.

The film is an adaptation of Loung Ung‘s 2000 memoir of the Khmer Rouge genocide, which was responsible for the class-driven murders of millions of Cambodians between 1975 and 1978. The story holds a special significance for Jolie and her eldest son Maddox, now 16, whom she adopted in Cambodia when he was three months old.

“Mad has known of Loung’s story his whole life, and I told him, ‘One day, son, you will be ready and you will tell me it’s time to go deeply into your country. But I need your help and you have to work and you have to be there every day and you can’t say no and that you are tired,’ ” Jolie recalls. “And one day he said, ‘I am ready.’ ”

Now, Jolie says she has no immediate plans for either acting or directing — but instead is focusing on life at home with her six children.

“I am going to cooking classes,” she says. “Cooking is one of those things you do when you are settled in your life and you can take the time. But somehow I am just very impatient and I am a little bit erratic.”

“But I am getting into it now,” she adds. “I feel like, if I cook, the kids can all hang out. Although they often take over and tell me that they can do it better.”

And kitchen skills aside, Jolie admits there is more she wants to work on.

“I think now I need to rediscover a little bit of the old me,” she says. “I think we lose our way a bit. I have had a lot happen in my life, from certain people passing to health issues to raising the children. And it’s been a very good time to absorb and develop and grow.”

“But maybe now that my kids are growing up I am starting to realize that my own sense of play has been put on hold for a while,” she continues. “And maybe them hitting their teens is going to bring out a little more fun in Mom. So maybe I am going back. It may be time.”

TAKING A STANCE: Selfridges is continuing its mission of enriching shoppers’ in-store experiences. This time, the U.K. department store has teamed with the artist, writer and filmmaker Miranda July and the London-based arts organization Art Angel to create the U.K.’s first interfaith charity shop.
The shop, located on the third floor of the department store, will be run by four religious charities chosen by Miranda July: Islamic Relief, Jewish charity Norwood, London Buddhist Centre and Spitalfields Crypt Trust. It will offer a mix of products, just like other charity shops across the country, including secondhand clothing, ornaments, toys and kitchenware.
“For many years I’ve wanted to make a store as artwork; utilizing the inherently participatory conventions of commerce,” said Miranda July, who is known to create a range of artworks that depend on public participation. “When I first came to London, in my 20s, I was giddily amazed by the sheer number of charity shops, but it’s only in creating this store with Artangel that I understand what a radically unique economic model they are. The nuances of this come from my faith-based charity shop partners and from the site, Selfridges.”
The proceeds will be shared equally between the four participating charities and

COS Opens Downtown L.A. Store, Chicago Up Next

GROWING SCENE: COS is set to open the doors to its 5,511-square-foot store in downtown Los Angeles on Friday afternoon.
The space, located within the 90-year-old Olympic Theatre building, places it roughly a block away from the Broadway and Ninth Street corridor that a cluster of retailers — including Mykita, Tanner Goods, Aesop, BNKR, Acne and A.P.C. — call home.
COS partnered with The Gentlewoman, the British magazine, on a map available in-store pointing out Los Angeles landmarks. Among the stops are the building where the new COS store sits along with the Eames House, Frank Gehry’s residence and Walt Disney Concert Hall.
In late 2015 the minimalist retailer, part of H&M Group, tested the downtown market with a pop-up shop designed in collaboration with design firm Snarkitecture.
“L.A. has always been a city of huge importance to the COS brand and the architecture, art and design scene here are all points of inspiration to our creative team,” said COS managing director Marie Honda. “We are very happy with the brand’s growth in the U.S. and look forward to introducing more stores into the market in 2018.”

Mel B Opens Up on Being a Single Mom Again After Nasty Split from Stephen Belafonte

Melanie “Mel B” Brown says she’s adjusting to life as a single mom again, nearly six months after the nasty split from husband Stephen Belafonte

“My kids are great. 18, 10 and 5,” the America’s Got Talent judge told reporters after a taping of the show. “They’re all doing amazing and they’re all lovely.”

“I just make them all listen to me,” she said. “And they don’t always do.”

Brown added, “I was a single parent for a long time with Phoenix, so I kind of learned that way, and moms always know best.”

Phoenix, 18, is Brown’s daughter from her first marriage, to dancer Jimmy Gulzar. Brown and Gulzar split about a year after Phoenix was born.

The 42-year-old singer admits that there is no one rule when it comes to parenting as a single mom.

“There’s no advice that I could give. Every mother, every parent is different,” she said. “The number one rule is you show your kid lots of love and respect, and you treat your kid how you want them to treat other people.”

Brown filed for divorce from Belafonte in March after 10 years of marriage. In explosive court documents, she accused Belafonte – the father of Brown’s youngest child, Madison – of abuse. Belafonte denied the allegations and was awarded $ 40,000 a month in spousal support by a judge last month.

Brown also joked that she’s “so happy to be single right now” after a group of hunky a capella singers from the Air Force Academy finished their rendition of “Some Nights” on Monday night’s quarterfinal episode of America’s Got Talent.

When she’s not parenting, Brown likes to meditate and work on the art of Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation.

“I do a lot of Reiki,” she said. “I listen to a lot of guided meditation, chakras and all that kind of stuff.”

Five Four Opens Pop-up in Los Angeles

Five Four is dipping back into the brick-and-mortar game.
The online men’s wear retailer, which started out as a streetwear brand with multiple mall stores in California, has teamed with Alfred Coffee at 8428 Melrose Place in West Hollywood on a pop-up shop.
The temporary store celebrates the launch of Oshenta, Five Four’s new eyewear brand, and FiveFourMan.com, which will go live this fall. Five Four sells merchandise from each of its private labels on separate sites. FiveFourMan.com will bring all of these assortments together under one platform.
“We wanted to create a place where people could touch and feel and see the product,” said Andres Izquieta, who cofounded the business in 2002 with Dee Murthy. “It’s been a good experience to talk with the customers about product and show them our vision off-line.”
The 350-square-foot space, which will be open through September, carries fashion items from each of Five Four’s brands, which includes Five Four, its core line, New Republic, its footwear line designed by Mark McNairy, Grand AC, its activewear line, and now Oshenta, its eyewear collection. Izquieta said the pop-up is a traditional retail experience, but customers are able to see the full inventory from three in-store iPads from which they can order products.

Balmain Opens First West Coast Flagship, on L.A.’s Melrose Place

LOS ANGELES — Balmain today opens its first West Coast flagship, at 8421 Melrose Place in West Hollywood. The 2,400-square-foot, one-story boutique will be the first freestanding store to house the complete offering from the recently relaunched accessories line, as well as the brand’s men’s, women’s and kid’s clothing collections.
The Los Angeles unit will also feature design elements of the new store concept, which is still “a work in progress,” according to chief executive officer Massimo Piombini. The fully realized retail concept will make its debut next year at a location that has yet to be determined.
“For as long as I can remember, Los Angeles has always been this incredible source of dreams and inspiration. Pop culture actually made me fall in love with the city even before I had set foot in it,” said Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director. “Later, my California friends introduced me to the singular lifestyle, relaxed glamour and exhilarating openness, diversity and freedom that one finds there, and that intoxicating West Coast spirit has been reflected in my collections. So, in many ways coming to L.A. is almost as much as a homecoming as the opening of a new flagship.” Rousteing and Piombini will celebrate the

Rosario Dawson Opens Up About Finding Cousin Dead Inside Her Home

Rosario Dawson is breaking her silence on her cousin’s death weeks after discovering the 26-year-old’s body.

Earlier this month, the actress found Vaneza Ines Vasquez unresponsive inside her Los Angeles home. Vasquez was later transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after. Early autopsy results suggested Dawson’s cousin died due to natural causes. Vasquez, who was working for Dawson at the time of her death, was also reportedly experiencing migraines and hypertension.

“My cousin just died, Vaneza [Ines Vazquez], and I’m coming up on the 6-year anniversary of my grandmother’s passing,” Rosario told Build Series on Wednesday in a conversation about her work with The Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York. “And from 75 to 26, you just don’t know when your time is. I just don’t want to be in any kind of position where I’m looking back going, ‘Ah, I should’ve, could’ve, would’ve, didn’t, damn!’”

In the week’s following her cousin’s death, Dawson has pledged not to take things for granted, reevaluating her priorities and finding comfort in her family.

“Tomorrow is not guaranteed, and you want to make sure the people that you love know that, and that you’re doing things with your time that you’re proud of, because it goes by so fast. It gets really easy to get caught up in the minutiae,” she said.

“I’ve been dealing with a lot of loss lately and reconnecting with my family and my friends in a different way,” she continued. “I’m realizing how much I’ve pulled myself back, and I’ve been just really humbled by this opportunity tonight.”

Later in the evening, Dawson was honored for her work at The Lower Eastside Girls Club, which provides a safe and enriching space for girls from low-income families. The actress is a founding board member and grew up in the same neighborhood the Girls Club operates in.

Alec Baldwin Opens Up About Suffering From Lyme Disease and Thinking He Was Going to Die

Alec Baldwin went from singing “Hallelujah” on the season finale of Saturday Night Live to jetting to balmy California to talk for the first time since a 2011 casual comment to the New York Times about having Lyme disease.

“They had me hiding in the bushes over there at a Lyme disease benefit,” Baldwin said as he went on the stage for the Bay Area Lyme Foundation (http://www.bayarealyme.org) LymeAid benefit for research at a private home in the woodsy enclave of Portola Valley, Ca outside Palo Alto on Sunday. “I have ticks all over me. I’m joking.”

Baldwin has been reluctant to talk about the disease, and Bay Area Lyme Foundation Executive Director Linda Giampa said that she has been trying for years to get him to come to their event. He finally agreed to do it last year, but then the appearance was almost derailed by Baldwin’s decision to do the SNL finale.

“We had already sold out the event for 350 people on that night when I was told. I asked if he would do it the next night and he graciously agreed,” Giampa said. “I think he just felt the time was right to talk about it.”

Baldwin said that he believed he had chronic Lyme disease even before he was diagnosed with it. He was bitten about 17 years ago, and got a shot. Then he was bitten again a few years later.

“I got the classic Lyme disease (symptoms) for each successive summer, for five years, every August, like this black lung, flu-like symptoms, sweating to death in my bed,” Baldwin said. “The first round (was the worst), and then it diminished, at least that’s how I perceived it.”

“The first time was the worst of all,” he recalled. “And I really thought this is it, I’m not going to live. I was alone, I wasn’t married at the time, I was divorced from my first wife. I was lying in bed saying, ‘I’m going to die of Lyme disease,’ in my bed and ‘I hope someone finds me and I’m not here for too long.’ ”

RELATED VIDEO: Alec Baldwin Visits Disneyland, Shares Adorable Photo With Oldest Daughter & Youngest Son!

Baldwin went on to say that now he and his wife Hilaria constantly check their children for signs of tick bites.

“I want my kids to grow up riding horses and bikes and enjoying themselves every day and not have to spend every day with us going over them with a magnifying glass to make sure they don’t have any ticks on their body or their dogs, but that is part of the lifestyle of where I live,” he said.

He then lightened things up with his impersonation of President Trump and a joke about New York being a Red State. After an audience groan, he shot back, “I have Lyme disease. A little sympathy here.”

The benefit dinner and concert raised more than $ 8 Million, of which 100% will go directly to fund research for Lyme disease.

Harry Styles Opens Up About His Sexuality

Harry Styles has a new album out and along with it comes many, many interviews featuring many, many questions about his storied personal life.

While the former One Direction heartthrob, who just released his first solo album, the self-titled “Harry Styles,” doesn’t appear to want to chat about his former girlfriends (including Taylor Swift), he did recently offer his thoughts about Miley Cyrus identifying as pansexual and his own sexuality.

In an interview with The Sun’s Dan Wootton, Styles celebrated Cyrus’ openness about her sexuality.

“Being in a creative field, it’s important to be progressive,” he said. “People doing stuff like that is great.”

He added: “Everyone should just be who they want to be. It’s tough to justify somebody having to answer to someone else about stuff like that.”

As far as his own sexuality is concerned, Styles says he’s “never felt the need” to use a label.

“I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself,” he told Wootton, before taking the stage in North London at his first-ever solo show.

This news probably won’t surprise diehard fans, some of whom believed he was in a secret relationship with band mate Louis Tomlinson and others who have been trying to pin down his exact sexuality for years.

In 2013, the 23-year-old singer addressed rumors that he was dating TV and radio host Nick Grimshaw in an interview with British GQ.

When asked point-blank if he identified as bisexual, Styles told the magazine, “Bisexual? Me? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’m not.”

A year later Styles faced more rumors after appearing on “On Demand Entertainment” with band mate Liam Payne. When the pair was asked about their favorite traits in a woman, Payne responded, “Female, that’s a good trait.” Styles shot back, “Not that important” ― which, predictably, sent the internet into hysterics.

Regardless of how Styles does or doesn’t identify, his approach is as trendy as ever. A recent YouGov survey found 43 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 24 viewed themselves as something other than completely straight. What’s more, the poll found that “people of all generations now accept the idea that sexual orientation exists along a continuum rather than a binary choice,” with 60 percent of heterosexuals and 73 percent of gay people supporting this idea.

Lardini Opens First Store in Japan

MILAN — Lardini’s first store in Japan has opened in Tokyo’s Marunouchi shopping district.
The unit covers 1,080 square feet and is marked by an almost entirely transparent facade with an expansive door that allows a view into the interior. Garments are displayed behind two glass windows between natural-stone cubes and smokescreens in woven glass.

The brand, which was launched in 1993, is no stranger to Japan — one of its biggest markets, and where it is already widely distributed via an extensive network of multibrand shops and department stores.
This is the sixth unit for the Italian brand, following three in Seoul, Busan and Daegu, South Korea; one in Xi’an in China, and one on Milan’s Via Gesù.
In Tokyo, the venue includes a Gabriele Pasini shop within a shop. The brand is also owned by the company, which is controlled by the Lardini family.
A parquet floor in natural oak was installed in a herringbone pattern which evokes the flooring of old villas and the walls are clad in ribbed oak paneling. The changing rooms have been fully carpeted in soft taupe. A large contemporary chandelier contrasts with the dark-gray ceiling.

Palace Opens First U.S. Store

In the middle of Palace’s new New York flagship there’s a bronze cherub-like sculpture holding a “P” and urinating into a P-shaped pool of water. On its Instagram account, Palace, a popular streetwear brand based in London, identified the structure as a fountain of youth and a temple of pea pea.
This type of humor is intrinsic to Palace Skateboards, which was founded by Lev Tanju in 2014, and the fountain is Instagram bait for the young crowd — people started to gather at 49 Howard Street on Thursday afternoon in anticipation of the store opening on Friday morning.

Company officials declined to comment about the store and its entry into the American market.
About an hour before the shop opened at 11 a.m., things were civilized and a sizable line of shoppers snaked down Mercer Street — at one point the crowd erupted in excitement when YouTube star Casey Neistat skateboarded down the block. Then the store opened and disorder ensued, so much so that the New York City Police Department had to close down the shop and turn away customers.

Peppermint Opens Up About Coming Out As Trans On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

On Friday night’s episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” New York City queen Peppermint finally had a moment that many fans of the show knew was coming: a discussion surrounding her trans identity and the way it relates to her drag persona.

It was a highly personal and vulnerable conversation for Peppermint, who has been open about being trans since the show premiered earlier this year. But deciding when to share this with her fellow competitors and coming out on national television is no easy task, and one that Peppermint put an immense amount of thought and emotional energy into prior to the filming the show last summer.

There have been contestants who have come out as trans during the course of a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season in the past, like Monica Beverly Hillz, and those that have gone on to transition post-”Drag Race,” like Carmen Carrera or Gia Gunn. But Peppermint is the first queen to be vocal about her identity from the moment the list of queens competing on her season was announced.

In this interview with The Huffington Post, Peppermint opens up about how she decided to tell her fellow contestants about her trans identity, the relationship, for her, between being trans and drag performance, and advice she would give other trans and gender non-conforming queens considering competing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in the future.

The Huffington Post: First of all, congratulations for coming out on national television ― that’s a huge deal!

Peppermint: Thank you! I’ve actually been out for awhile but this is my first time speaking about it with this group of people, so I guess it’s a coming out! It’s a small and a big coming out at the same time.

Right ― it’s just more of a public coming out on this major platform. How did you approach sharing your trans identity going into “RuPaul’s Drag Race”?

Well, I think I took the same approach that I took in life, which was I didn’t necessarily have a Facebook announcement moment or like a “stop it all, everything changes” moment. I really just kind of wanted to become who I was supposed to be and continue to do what I was always meant to do – and I did! I just kind of morphed myself into a trans woman [laughs] and continued to kind of go about my daily life. The people who were in contact with me and in my life just kind of saw it in front of their eyes. So that was kind of my approach with the show.

I didn’t really want to come in and say, “hey everyone, I don’t know your names but I’ve got an announcement to make.” I just wanted to let me persona and my talent speak for themselves. And once I felt comfortable and established in the room and this group of people and knew that it was a safe space then I felt comfortable enough to share personal moments with them – including my trans experience.

You talked a little bit about this in the episode, but I would love to hear you talk more about the contention and distinction between trans identity and drag performance. Obviously you can’t speak for everybody when it comes to that but I’d love to hear your thoughts on what that relationship is like for you.

You know, it didn’t even occur to me until a certain time that there is a difference between drag and [being] trans. For me, for so long, just doing drag was me being able to express myself as a woman and make the choice to wear things that I felt were gorgeous and makeup and hair and all of that. And it wasn’t until much later and actually starting my transition that I realized that’s barely even what womanhood is about for all of those women. So once I wrapped my head around that I was kind of able to see the relationship between drag and trans in that, for me, the truth is that there’s a lot of wonderful places in great cities and groups of people and LGBT centers that are safe spaces for people of trans experience to kind of explore their identity and step into that realm. But, as we know, there are a lot of places that aren’t safe spaces and I think drag in most cities, at least in America, continues to be a safe space for someone to kind of experiment with gender expression – of course! Because that’s the name of the game for drag. And so that’s a really safe space for trans people to be able to kind of explore that. I think some trans people very quickly realize that performing in drag is not for them, and then some of us get hooked on it and want to do it every day!

But, as we know, there are a lot of places that aren’t safe spaces and I think drag in most cities, at least in America, continues to be a safe space for someone to kind of experiment with gender expression.

I think that this is definitely a dialogue that we engage in a lot within queer community. How do we help the larger world understand this really complicate relationship between these different shades of identity involving drag performance and trans identity.

I think the simplest way to put it is in the words of Monica Beverley Hillz who so bravely came out in season five of Drag Race, that “Drag is what I do and trans is who I am.” And I think that’s the simplest way to put it. I know that there’s a lot of nuances, just as there are in the human experience – there’s no one way to describe everyone. I think that’s what we should take away: there’s trans people who may have never set foot in a gay bar or been to a drag show. And there’s trans people who are drag queens and are at the gay bar every week ― just like there are gay men who never set foot in a gay bar. It’s really easy, especially when we’re talking about minorities, to kind of paint the entire community with one broad stroke and just say “all gay people are this” or “all trans people are that.” And this is primarily because we have very limited examples of who these people are in our media. So I think once we start to expand the different shades and shapes and sizes of the people in our queer community in media, then people will see that there are different types of trans people – some of whom are drag queens and some of whom are not. Drag is a job or career – it’s a way to make money, but it’s not necessarily the be all end all of a trans person’s existence.

Very well said and I would even argue that you’re embodying that possibility model by talking about this right now and that’s really powerful and I commend you for that. As a trans woman, how are you impacted by gendered terminology on the show? What are your thoughts surrounding that?

One step at a time is my thought. It would not be a bad thing if the producers and writers of the show decided that they wanted to carve out more space to expand and get a little more breathing room when it comes to terminology and words and definitions. I don’t necessarily think it is as crucial, specifically because I know that when I’m working as a drag performer, the definition and expectation is that you are a gender non-conforming person.

It’s really easy, especially when we’re talking about minorities, to kind of paint the entire community with one broad stroke and just say ‘all gay people are this’ or ‘all trans people are that.’ And this is primarily because we have very limited examples of who these people are in our media.

Did you ever feel the pressure to present in any certain type of way while out of drag when you were competing on the show?

Well, this is an extremely difficult, personal and very heavy kind of thought process for me. No, I didn’t feel any pressure directed at me from anyone else. I really had to address the pressure that I put on myself. What is a woman? What do I look like? What does my natural body say? And how do I feel about that? I’ve had to address that stuff throughout my life and I probably will again – this calls into question possibility. Do I really need to feel the pressure to sit in front of the mirror and put on a bunch of makeup and wear a whole bunch of jewelry, makeup and perfume just to go to the grocery store? What if I just wash my face and present my natural self – will people say that I’m a man? I mean that’s really a scary thing and a hard thing to deal with and accept for a lot of trans people. And a part of passing has to do with safety and not being targeted, and of course I felt safe I didn’t think I was going to be abused or anything. But the truth of the matter is an hour before I start getting into drag, I take a shower and I have short blonde hair, no makeup on and my body looks like one that most people would say, “oh that’s a man.” And I don’t like that but it’s the truth! And I have to deal with that. And so I wanted to go into each challenge as natural as possible, I didn’t want to have to put on a bunch of makeup and then take it off and put it back on again. And before the show I would wear hair as a trans woman every day ― my daytime hair. I have a daytime look which involves wigs and makeup and hair and I didn’t want to have to de-drag in order to drag again because then I would be at a disadvantage.

That’s extremely personal and I appreciate you sharing that. Finally, what would you want to say to any trans or GNC person that’s thinking about or going to compete on drag race in the future?

I think number one, absolutely do it. I think if you have faith that you are a stellar drag performer and you think you have a lot to offer to the world of drag and have already contributed to the world of drag, then I say “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is meant for you. Whether you see an example of yourself or not, you will be that person. So just do it! And I do think, kind of going back to the last question that you had, you may have to be really ready to shed a lot of the ― I don’t want to say security blanket ― but a lot of the things that you use to protect yourself in every day life when you’re going into a thing like “Drag Race.” And that’s not necessarily unique to a trans person or trans experience – I think every person who goes to “Drag Race” or any reality TV show has to be ready to be vulnerable or be exposed or be without their security blanket – whatever that is. And that includes people of trans experience.

Laverne Cox told me about an experience she had where she was traveling through the airport and was in a rush and she was misgendered by the airline personnel at the gate. And she had a choice to kind of either stay there and argue with the person so that they knew the right thing to say, or just keep it moving because she doesn’t have time and doesn’t want to miss her flight. And the truth is, whether I’m wearing hair or however I’m presenting, it doesn’t negate my womanhood.

I’ve always been a woman! And my womanhood is never at stake based on what someone says about how I look or how I present or whether you’re a drag queen or not or whether you’re transition or whether you have surgeries – none of that matters. Your womanhood or your manhood if you’re a trans man or whatever your gender identity – you’re born with it! That’s my belief. And even though it takes some people awhile to realize it and kind of come into their own, it’s always inside of you.

The Lions Modeling Agency Opens Los Angeles Office

The Lions Model Management, the three-year-old New York-based boutique modeling agency whose clients include Irina Shayk, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, Adwoa Aboah and Cameron Russell, has opened a new office in Los Angeles. The Lions L.A. is the second location in the United States for the upstart agency, which has seen rapid growth since its launch.
The new location marks a strategic expansion, tapping into Los Angeles’s suddenly buzzy fashion scene. “From the beginning, we’ve built The Lions on a non-traditional business model that looks beyond measurements to find clients who have unique qualities and we work to develop their profiles,” said Ali Kavoussi, one of the agency’s managing partners. “As the fashion industry continues to evolve, opening an outpost in L.A. is a natural next step as we continue to grow our business.”
Since its launch in 2014, The Lions has taken a different approach to organizing its roster with a fluid board, not segmenting models by gender, ethnicity, size or any other parameter. The agency also devotes time and resources to helping models find their voice and create their own personal brands, which, of course, leads to more lucrative jobs from companies seeking “authentic” and quirky personalities.

Mischa Barton Opens Up About ‘Emotionally Abusive’ Partner Who Leaked Her Sex Tape

Mischa Barton said she has been the target of “emotional abuse” from her ex who shopped around a sex tape of her.

During a recent interview on The Dr. Phil Show, set to air Mondaythe 31-year-old actress says her former lover was aiming to ruin her through what she called “complete emotional blackmail.”

“It was a crime. It is a serious crime to tape people without their knowledge like that and I had made the mistake of putting myself in the situation with the person so I just removed myself as quickly as I could, and then it just continued to be complete emotional abuse after that for the last several, several months,” she explained.

Barton also recalled the alarming way she learned of the sex tape’s existence.

“Somebody came up to me on the street… and said there’s something I need to tell you and I didn’t believe it at first, I couldn’t believe it,” The O.C. alum recalled. “Because I had loved this person and I didn’t think it was possible.”

She added, “And I later learned it was entirely possible.”

FROM COINAGE: The True Cost of Famous TV Apartments

Barton retained attorney Lisa Bloom, who issued a statement on behalf of the actress announcing that they plan on prosecuting the alleged “revenge pornography” peddler under “every available civil and criminal law.”

“I just want to say that I’ve been put through an incredibly hard and trying time,” Barton said in a press conference earlier this month. “This is a painful situation, and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras. Then I learned something even worse: that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public. I came forward to fight this not only for myself but for all the women out there.”

The reports come less than two months after Barton willingly went to the hospital the morning after celebrating her birthday in January, later telling PEOPLE that someone allegedly drugged her with GHB while she was out drinking with friends the night of the celebration.

Two weeks later, Barton was involved in an accident in which she crashed a U-Haul truck into an apartment building while moving out of her apartment.

A source told PEOPLE at the time that Barton was trying to put her troubled past behind her.

“She’s fragile but she doesn’t show it. It can’t be easy for her,” said an insider. “She just wants to get her career going again, change people’s perception of her and move on.”

Stone Island Opens Pop-up at Kinfolk

Stone Island has established a presence in Brooklyn.
The Italian men’s wear brand, which has been trending with the streetwear community in the U.S. for the past couple of years, has set up a pop-up within Kinfolk, a men’s wear store in Williamsburg that’s sold Stone Island’s Shadow Project since it opened in 2014.
The pop-up is located on the upper level of Kinfolk’s store, which is located at 94 Wythe Avenue. Kinfolk also runs a café and a club, which sit next to its shop. Kinfolk is the only third-party retailer that will be carrying Stone Island’s Marina collection, which is also available at the brand’s SoHo store. The pop-up opens to the public today and Kinfolk celebrated the launch on Thursday night with a party.
“I think they were drawn to our ability to mix retail and nightlife,” said Keith Abrams, a co-owner of Kinfolk. “And we’ve always been excited by their mix of technical design and function.”
Most of the collection is on display at Kinfolk and it includes hooded jackets, striped T-shirts, shorts and bags covered in the Stone Island Marina logo. The collection is priced from $ 128 to $ 998 and the pop-up will be open through April. Kinfolk also housed

North Sails’ foray into U.S. wholesale — it operates freestanding stores in New York; Annapolis, Md.; and Newport, R.I. — coincides with the 52 Super Series Miami Royal Cup regatta, which runs through March 11, when top local clients are invited to be in the center of the action on a spectator boat.
“Guys are interested in pop-ups and an elevated shopping experience, and we’re putting a lot of effort into them,” said Tom Ott, senior vice president and general merchandise manager for men’s wear at Saks Fifth Avenue, of the afternoon outing on Biscayne Bay, which he believes will appeal to Miamians’ outdoor lifestyle, sailor or not. “Once you do these experiential events, customers become loyal and excited about the brick-and-mortar experience.”

Mezlan Opens New York Flagship

Mezlan is joining the men’s wear fray on Madison Avenue.
The high-end Spanish footwear brand has opened a flagship at 520 Madison Avenue in the Jeffries Building, joining Thomas Pink, Eredi Pisano, The Art of Shaving, Hartmann luggage and Reiss of London.
The 1,275-square-foot shop was designed by Mezlan owner Antonio Sanchez in partnership with Zora Mobiliario SL, a Spanish architectural firm.
“The space has been empty for around one and a half years because they wanted someone who fit in and would be complementary to the other tenants,” said Jack Abelson, a retail veteran who now serves as Mezlan’s national sales manager.
The store, with its marble floors, leather furniture and upscale wood fixtures, is intended to mimic the handcraftsmanship of the shoes.
This marks the company’s seventh U.S. store. The first opened at The Palazzo hotel in Las Vegas in 2008, followed by units at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, the 900 North Michigan Shops in Chicago, Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, Va., the Houston Galleria and the Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara, Calif.

Red Valentino Opens in Hong Kong, Collaborates With Walky Land

Red Valentino is opening its new store in Harbour City, Hong Kong today with a special artist collaboration and capsule collection. Pierpaolo Piccioli, who developed the store concept with architect India Mahdavi, also enlisted artist Monika Forsberg, also known as Walky Land, for a special display — three heart-shaped works of art dedicated to love and creativity — and a capsule line.
It’s no coincidence that the store opens on Valentine’s Day. “It felt natural to base the whole collection around a love theme,” said Forsberg. “We decided to mix hearts and nature and birds — elements that I have in common with the brand. For inspiration, I went for a walk where I live. It’s romantic in a British Victorian way and the front gardens are full of florals even in the winter, which spills over into the street. I soaked up the vibe and then sat down and started drawing…. I drew a large pile of hearts and plants and birds whilst listening to an audio book and planning my youngest son’s birthday party. I work in a room facing our garden. I used marker pens and gouache a little bit of ink and some coloring pens.”
The capsule collection, available in select Red Valentino stores, and online, launches in the San

Louis Vuitton Opens First Men’s Pop-up Store in Milan

MILAN — Louis Vuitton’s first men’s pop-up store in Italy, which was inaugurated here on Friday and will officially open Saturday, coincides with the city’s men’s fashion week and will close on Jan. 29. Located in the arty Brera district, the store carries the men’s spring collection exclusively in Italy, including shoes, bags, travel cases, accessories, small leather goods and watches.
The store has a distinctive artistic feel. The decor pays homage to Africa and the art of the Chapman brothers, who inspired Kim Jones, the brand’s men’s artistic director, on the spring collection. The renderings of the Big Five animals by brothers Dinos and Jake Chapman stand out on the walls, contrasting with the storied feel of the venue, with its antique fireplace and coffered ceilings.
“Brera is an interesting area and full of life, in which history, art and fashion blend and become protagonists,” said Jones, pointing to the relevance of the project in Milan as “the capital of men’s wear.”
Jones worked with the Chapmans to create four animal prints on the Louis Vuitton Monogram pattern, seen on ready-to-wear, accessories and leather goods, including two rigid beauty cases, available upon request.

Francesco Russo Opens Shop in Shop at Just One Eye

Francesco Russo’s shop-in-shop at Just One Eye.

Paris-based shoe designer Francesco Russo has just opened his first shop-in-shop outside of Paris at Los Angeles emporium Just One Eye. Russo began working with Just One Eye a year ago, when owner Paola Russo (no relation) suggested opening a permament space for clients to peruse the ready-to-wear collection as well as the customizable offerings in crocodile, lizard and snake.
“Far more than being a place to shop, I wanted it to be a place of experience,” said Russo. “Otherwise customers would rather not go out. They’d just as soon shop online.” Russo said the shop, in a private room in the building which houses Just One Eye’s several gallery-like spaces, is an extension of the salon-like Paris store, with the same aesthetic vibe. Even the shopping bags are the same. The furnishings, however, were all sourced in Los Angeles. Instead of the Sixties-era sofa that graces the Paris store, he found a Thirties-era carved bench at an antiques dealer in L.A.
Russo will return for an official opening party in March; he took this week to meet with stylists and clients who haven’t seen the shoes in person yet. “With the custom program, anything is

Todd Snyder Opens New York Flagship

Todd Snyder is putting a stake in the ground in New York.
The men’s wear designer today will open the doors to his first American flagship, a 4,500-square-foot store at 25 Madison Square North at 26th Street. The shop, right off Madison Avenue, will offer a curated assortment of Snyder’s tailored clothing and sportswear and will include pieces from his myriad collaborations with brands as varied as Champion and Globe Trotter. It will also offer a coffee shop/bar, a barbershop and an optical boutique.
“I didn’t want to open just another retail store,” Snyder said during an exclusive walk-through on Monday. “This store is all about interacting with the customer and providing a unique experience.”
He said most men remain “intimidated by shopping,” so the store is designed to “tear down the barriers” and make them comfortable.
“It’s not just a clothing store,” Snyder stressed. “It’s a great place to come for a seasonal wardrobe upgrade with a personal stylist, to get fitted for your next suit while enjoying an espresso or a beer, or to hang out with friends while getting a haircut and a shave.” The store was designed by Snyder in collaboration with James Mills.

Brioni Opens New York Flagship on Madison Avenue

NEW YORK — Brioni is taking its luxury Italian aesthetic to Madison Avenue here with the opening of a two-level, 5,974-square-foot flagship on 62nd Street.
The store is the second iteration of a David Chipperfield Architects Milan design that launched in Paris in July on Rue Saint-Honoré. But Gianluca Flore, chief executive officer of the Kering-owned Brioni, said the layout of the New York store allows for a fuller expression of the design.
“It’s even nicer than Paris,” he said. “That fact that it is two full floors allows for the concept to express itself in a better way.” The Paris store is also on two levels, but one is below ground.
The New York store, which opens Thursday, replaces a smaller unit on 57th Street that closed on Sunday. The flagship was intended to open in late October, but construction delays, due in part to the fact that the location is a residential building, pushed back the opening date.
The opening of the store comes as Brioni is in the midst of another reboot after a tumultuous 10 months. It parted ways with its then-creative director Brendan Mullane, tapped Justin O’Shea as his successor, and then pushed O’Shea out after six months following pushback from

LOS ANGELES – Dior has planted a new temporary flag on the West Coast with the opening of its only pop-up boutique dedicated to the Dior Lady Art collaboration, at 201 N. Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Situated at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard, one block south of Dior’s permanent Rodeo Drive store and in the same building that once housed Bulgari’s flagship and Louis Vuitton’s temporary digs, the the first-floor space makes good use of the building’s massive limestone facade and three-story glass tower as branding billboards.

Interior Designer Tatum Kendrick Opens Fashion Boutique in Los Angeles

Tatum Kendrick is making a loop from fashion to interior design and back to fashion via her new boutique in Los Angeles.
On a gritty stretch between downtown and the hipster haven of Silver Lake, behind a black iron door shaped like a woman’s hourglass silhouette, the former DKNY publicist is putting the final touches on You’re So Baby before unveiling it to the public on Dec. 1. Reflecting what she dubs “the edgy, sexy, feminine point of view, rather than California cool,” which is the raison d’être of many retailers here, the 900-square-foot shop in Echo Park is decorated like an inviting apartment inhabited by a woman who assuredly mixes blush pink floors with a leopard spot couch.
In addition to vintage Cartier lighters and jewelry by Hervé Van der Straeten and Gabriela Artigas, Kendrick also offers lingerie by Bordelle and TyLynn Nguyen, fragrances from Serge Lutens and erotic wallpaper drawn by Natalie Krim. Robert Talbott Opens New York City Store

NEW YORK — Robert Talbott has brought a slice of Monterey to Madison Avenue.
The Northern California-based men’s wear brand has opened an 1,800-square-foot shop at 501 Madison Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd Streets, its first store in New York in many years.
“There are so many eyeballs here,” said Robert Corliss, who has been the company’s chief executive officer for the past five years. “Many years ago, we had a tiny shop here that sold only shirts and ties. But we do a lot of business in New York, people here know the brand and we have a fairly loyal contingent, and you really can’t buy it here.”
Talbott, a 66-year-old label that is known mainly for its high-end shirts and neckwear, focuses most of its wholesale efforts on independent retailers.
“We took the deliberate path to work closely with specialty stores,” Corliss said. “That industry is beleaguered, but I think it’s reached its low point. So we’re hoping we can help reinvigorate a good path in front of them.”
Instead of wooing large retailers, Corliss, whose extensive retail background includes ceo of Herman’s Sporting Goods and The Athlete’s Foot, has been focused on opening shops-in-shops at specialty stores around the country. There currently are about 10,

Criminal Minds Writer Opens Up About Physical Altercation with Thomas Gibson: ‘I Hope the Best for the Guy’

Virgil Williams, a writer for the CBS drama Criminal Minds who was recently involved in a physical altercation with actor Thomas Gibson, is encouraging high school teens to take a stand for what they believe in.

During a recent visit to Ghetto Film School Los Angeles, where he hosted an interactive workshop for students aspiring to work in the entertainment industry, the writer-producer spoke candidly about the importance of telling your story.

“There’s a certain cycle that needs to be broken,” Williams tells PEOPLE. “One of these kids came up and asked me, ‘I’m doing a full report on the diversity problem in Hollywood and how do you think you fix that?’ The first thing that came to my mind was ‘You guys. You guys are the way that we fix that. You guys are here right now. You’re fixing it right now because you’re spending time and you’re studying and you’re working on your craft and you’re trying to tell your stories. You have to be the change that you want to see.’ ”

After being asked by a student how difficult it is to write off a major character on a TV show, Williams immediately referred to Gibson’s departure — and admitted it was not easy.

“It hasn’t been smooth,” Williams tells PEOPLE about writing off Gibson’s character, who only appeared on the first two episodes of the current season. “It was very abrupt. But we tried to do it seamlessly and move on. We’re going to keep moving forward and we’re going to keep telling great stories.”

As for the altercation that ultimately resulted in Gibson’s departure from the hit show in August, Williams says it stemmed from a professional disagreement.

“He came to me with a line change that he wanted,” Williams said. “I felt that change would have hurt the story, but I offered him fix. He didn’t accept the fix and walked off.”

Shortly after a second heated conversation between him and Gibson, the writer — who was in search of the showrunner to explain the situation at hand — said that Gibson kicked him in the shin as he walked by him.

“He came to me with a line change that he wanted. Because of this particular episode, the change that he wanted hurt the story,” Williams said. “I offered him a fix. He didn’t accept the fix. He said, ‘Fix it so I’m happy’ and then walked off.”

Shortly after a second heated conversation between him and Gibson, the writer — who was in search of the showrunner to explain the situation at hand — said that Gibson kicked him in the shin as he walked by him.

However, according to Gibson, the situation unfolded a little differently.

“He came into that room and started coming towards me,” Gibson, 54, previously told PEOPLE. “As he brushed past me, my foot came up and tapped him on the leg. If I hadn’t moved, he would have run into me. We had some choice words, for which I apologized the next day, and that was it. It was over. We shot the scene, I went home – and I never got to go back.”

After what was supposed to be a two-week suspension, Gibson was informed that he was “dismissed” from the show. Since his departure, the CBS drama has seen a decrease in ratings and a twitter campaign using the hashtag #NoHotchNoWatch has been launched in attempt to get his character, special agent Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner, back on the show.

Williams — who admits he himself was once suspended from set for raising his voice — believes Gibson created a “hostile work environment,” but reveals he will, in fact, miss his character.

“ got to watch him, but I got to write him,” says Williams.

Though he doesn’t foresee working with Gibson in the future, Williams wishes him the best.

“I pray for him,” he says. “I hope that he’s getting time with his family. I hope the best for the guy.”

First Stand-alone GapFit Boutique Opens in Dubai

GLOBAL EXCLUSIVE: The world’s first standalone GapFit boutique opens its doors this month in Dubai.
The 966-square-foot store, launched in partnership with the Al Tayer Group, carries the GapFit collection for men, women and kids. The store is making its debut with a showcase of the GapFit holiday 2016 collection.
Michael Richardson, vice president of franchise product at Al Tayer, said this global first is ideal for Dubai. “GapFit has been a popular choice among Dubai shoppers in the Gap stores, therefore it was a natural next step to provide the customers with a fuller assortment to choose from,” he said.
The new store is not housed in a mall, as the other Gap units in the region are. Instead it has a seaside location at The Beach complex, a popular destination in the Jumeirah Beach Residence area. “Combining the beauty of the beach with a day of shopping, GapFit at JBR is easily accessible to shoppers looking to update their fitness wardrobes,” said Richardson of the waterfront location.
The store design includes illuminated focus points with juxtaposing whitewashed wood finishes to create a blend of GapFit’s modern athletic decor combined with the look and feel of an authentic beach cabin.
At the moment, Richardson said this store

Duchess of Cambridge Opens Magic Garden at Hampton Court

DUCHESS ON DUTY: Following a tour of India and Bhutan, Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday festivities and a visit from President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, the Duchess of Cambridge is carrying on with a series of royal engagements. She headed to Hampton Court to open Magic Garden, a new children’s play area, on Wednesday.
Designed by Robert Meyers with a moat and shrub maze, the garden is located in King Henry VIII’s former courtyard where historically, jousting and tournaments took place. The duchess met with the teams involved in the design and construction, as well as children and families in the community. She attended a reception and unveiled a plaque to mark the opening. No stranger to recycling her wardrobe, she donned a blue-gray Michael Kors coat first seen during her royal tour to Australia in 2014 with LK Bennett heels.
As a patron of the Anna Freud Centre, she is planned to attend a lunch and meet with families from the center and supporters of the institution that increases awareness of children’s mental health issues. She was scheduled to head to the National Portrait Gallery later on Wednesday to view two portraits of her by photographer Josh Olins that are on display as a

Pintrill Opens Brooklyn Store

Jordan Roschwalb’s enthusiasm for pins is infectious.
“I wanted to be able to give pin collectors a space to congregate just like sneaker collectors go to Stadium Goods,” said Roschwalb when asked about Pintrill’s first brick-and-mortar store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “This will be a flagship where people from all over can come and experience this.”
Roschwalb cofounded Pintrill in 2014 along with Doni Gitlin and Andrew Yung. Over the past two years the brand has grown rapidly with its clever, of-the-moment pins, which retail from $ 12 to $ 20 and are released on a weekly basis.
The Pintrill flagship, which opens this Saturday at 231 Grand Street, sells Pintrill’s vast collection of pins. They are displayed on clear pegs to give the appearance that they are floating. The 625-square-foot space, which will also serve as Pintrill’s headquarters, is stocked with vintage pins Roschwalb sources from all over the word — they are featured on rotating trays in a glass box — and supplementary items to display pins such as vintage corkboards, trays and Pintrill’s line of hats.
Different displays in the shop, which is sprinkled with vintage toy viewfinders, will be dedicated to new weekly releases, in-store exclusives and a board behind the cash register

L.A. Accessories Label Cult Gaia Opens Pop-Up Shop at Platform in Culver City

Los Angeles-based accessories label Cult Gaia has timed the opening of its first pop-up shop at Culver City’s Platform retail development to festival season and Coachella. After graduating from FIT in 2011, Jasmin Larian started Cult Gaia with the now ubiquitous flower crown, and has since expanded with wire and fabric headscarves, headbands, lace chokers, bamboo handbags and women’s apparel retailing from $ 17 to $ 180.
“Every piece is a peacock piece, a conversation-starter,” said Larian. “If I can’t get a ‘made you look’ reaction from it, it’s not worth putting in the collection.” Larian has also created lighter and more luxe versions of the flower crown made with glass leaves, leather petals and headbands made from braided rows of beads. “It’s taking a hippie and making her look so rich,” she said while modeling one style featuring a delicate side-tie detail.
Open through June, the pop-up shop will also showcase the limited-edition men’s button-down shirt line Cult Guy, started by Larian’s younger brother, Cameron, as a project created for a reality television show about Silicon Valley start-ups. The men’s shirts, neck scarves, women’s apparel and head scarves all come in matching fabrics, because, the Larians note, “subtle, elevated matching is the next

Gisele Bündchen Opens Up About Marriage Issues With Tom Brady

Just because two people appear to have no physical imperfections does not mean their marriage is picture-perfect, too.

Such is the case for Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady, who have had a bumpy year, to say the least — dealing with divorce rumors in the midst of the New England Patriots quarterback’s involvement in Deflategate.

On Tuesday, the 35-year-old opened up to Charlie Rose on “CBS This Morning” about their six-year marriage, revealing they’ve “been through a few tough times together.”

The supermodel went on to quash split rumors, explaining that they’ve gotten through trying times by leaning on one another and their loved ones.

”I think that’s when you know who are your friends and who loves you. My father always said, the quality of your life depends on the quality of your relationships, and I think, no matter how challenging it was, we’ve always been supportive of one another,” Bündchen told Rose. “I think that’s the most important thing you can have in life, you know? A support system and love.”

Of course, the couple has been dealing with trying times since they began dating nine years ago and soon discovered that Brady’s ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan was pregnant with his child.

It’s a subject the model has rarely discussed, but she called the situation a “challenging thing.”

“Here I am, you know, thinking I’m dating this guy … everything is great, and then this happens. So I felt I didn’t know what to do,” she said. “It was one of the moments like, ‘Do I just run away?’”

Of course, Bündchen didn’t run.

“Now, eight years later, I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter bonus child,” she said,  referring to Brady and Moynahan’s 8-year-old son, while she and the NFL player have two children of their own.

A photo posted by Gisele Bündchen (@gisele) on

Meanwhile, Brady previously spoke out against the rumors the couple were headed for a split in September.

“We’re in a great place, I’ll just say that,” the NFL player told  Boston radio station WEEI 93.7 FM. “I’m a lucky man. I’ve been very blessed with support from my family and certainly her, and there’s no bigger supporter that I have than her and vice versa. I’ve been very blessed to have an incredible relationship with my life partner, and I don’t think anything will ever get in the way of that.”

Comedian Who Lied About Surviving 9/11 Opens Up For The First Time

Comedian Steve Rannazzisi, in his first public comments since he was exposed for lying he was in the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks, explained how he believed his deception protected him from “cruel” fellow comedians and defined his career.

Rannazzisi, star of “The League,” apologized Tuesday during a 40-minute interview on Howard Stern’s radio show and addressed last months’ New York Times story that revealed he wasn’t working in the Merrill Lynch office on the 54th floor of the World Trade Center south tower when the north tower was hit. Rannazzisi recounted the fake experience to interviewers for years and claimed the ordeal motivated him to follow his dreams of being an entertainer.

“Do you think of yourself as psychologically disturbed? How do you view yourself after doing this thing?” Stern asked.

“Psychologically disturbed — I don’t know if that’s the way to put it,” Rannazzisi said. “I do see someone and am starting to figure out more about myself: codependency and wanting people to like me and to make people happy.”

The “why” is still unclear, he said.

“It wasn’t calculated at all,” he said. “It was as simple as sitting at the Comedy Store and everyone being like, ‘Hey, you’re from New York?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘Were you just there? You were around?’ ‘Yeah, I was downtown.’ ‘You worked there?’ ‘Yeah, I did.’”

Within seconds, Rannazzisi said he felt he couldn’t set the record straight.

“You have like 15 seconds, I think, to kind of go, ‘Wait, hold on. Stop. I’m sorry. That’s not true.'” he said. “If you pass that 15 seconds … now, it becomes a thing where you’re like, ‘Now, I have to be the guy that’s very strange and weird and just said I lied about 9/11.’”

Once the fake story gained traction, Rannazzisi said the resulting sympathy gave him security in the brutal comedy community.

“I think it might have been like, comedians are cruel people, especially in the beginning,” he said. “And I kind of was like, well maybe people will not be as mean to me or not make as many jokes about me because they think that this is what I went through.”

When the Times confronted him last month with conflicting versions of his 9/11 story, Rannazzisi responded with a statement confirming that he had lied. The confession may be damning to his career, but he said he feels relief and is glad he can finally apologize.

“I know what I did was terrible, and I know that I hurt a lot of people — people that lost people, people that helped people survive — and those people, those are the people that I truly am sorry,” he said. “That’s why I wanted to come on here.”

SCAD Museum Opens With Oscar de la Renta Tribute

ATLANTA — Considering Oscar de la Renta’s close ties to the Savannah College of Art and Design, it was fitting that SCAD FASH opened its first fashion collection dedicated to the late designer.
The fashion museum, which officially opened Oct. 3 at the school’s campus here, was spun out of 10,000 square feet of space originally used for events, said Paula Wallace, president and founder of SCAD. The full-scale remodeling of the facade and interior began this summer and transformed much of the area into an elegant room that can be modularly changed according to the dictates of each exhibition it presents. Visitors enter by ascending a grand staircase that offers a dazzling panoramic view of the city.
The museum gallery is surrounded by fashion classrooms on two sides and leads into the library-style Film Salon, a lounge for visitors and the Assouline store with merchandise made by SCAD students, a fashion resource library, and a collection study and conservation lab.
SCAD celebrated the opening on Thursday with Champagne and hors d’oeuvres as guests toured the collection of Oscar de la Renta creations past and present, including some fall 2015 designs by Peter Copping, the fashion house’s creative director, who took the helm

Justin Bieber Opens Up To Complex Magazine About Being Arrested

Justin Bieber is Complex magazine’s latest cover star.

The 21-year-old, who was photographed by David Black for the mag, opens up about everything from his infamous arrest in Miami to how he deals with all the critics.

Speaking about that time he urinated in a bucket at a club, the Biebs said, “Honestly, I think the pissing in the bucket wasn’t as big as people made it seem. Just because, dude, think about it. Imagine, you hear that fucking Ozzy Osbourne pisses backstage. Immediately, ‘Oh, he’s a freaking rock star!’ As soon as I do it, ‘He’s being a brat.'”

He continued, “Dude, what is bratty about pissing in a bucket? I had to go piss — we all have to pee.” He has a point — we all do have to pee, but at least most of us have the decency to do it in a restroom, even if said restroom is on the opposite side of where we are.

The singer also called out the Miami police (who arrested and charged him for DUI and drag racing last year), saying, “they just wanted press.”

“I never was speeding; I never was drag racing … The cop supposedly wanted to be famous for arresting celebrities, and someone had heard him say that prior to that,” he said. “He was like, ‘Put your hands on the hood!’ I was like, what? I lifted my hands and I was like, ‘What do you mean, what’s going on?’ He was like, “I told you, put your hands on the hood! Now you’re under arrest for resisting arrest!'”

“I felt it, dude. I was just like, Oh, they’re trying to get me right now at any cost. I went in, and I’m telling you, that 24 hours sucked. It was really cold. That was the worst part.” Poor Biebs.

APC Opens in London’s Notting Hill

APC’S LONDON LATEST: APC has opened its third store in London, in the city’s Notting Hill area.
The 700-square-foot space, which had a soft opening last month, stands at 34 Ledbury Road, nearby Diane von Furstenberg, Zadig & Voltaire and Matchesfashion.com on the street.
Laurent Deroo architects — APC’s longtime collaborator — designed the store together with the Paris-based label’s founder Jean Touitou.
The store’s interiors make a feature of narrow, glazed gray ceramic bricks, designed to evoke London’s Victorian pub tiles, which are set in pale oak frames to form walls and partitions in the store. There are also brass light-fittings and pale wood floors.
The space carries APC’s men’s and women’s collections, alongside accessories, quilts and candles. It adds to APC’s existing London stores on east London’s Redchurch Street and on Lexington Street in Soho.

Comme des Garçons Pocket Shop Opens in New York

HOW CONVENIENT: Pocket, Rei Kawakubo‘s answer to the bodega, lands in New York City today at 112 10th Avenue. Comme des Garçons said it likens the Pocket concept, which launched in Tokyo department stores in 2007, to a modern-day convenience store for “pocket-sized items that you don’t have to think about too much and can buy on a whim.” That means mostly the Play, Wallets and Parfum collections.
Adrian Joffe, president of Comme des Garçons International, said the concept “celebrates the ease, efficiency and affordability of a convenience store.”
This is the first freestanding Pocket in the United States. There are now 30 Pocket shops worldwide in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand, as well as Singapore, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Melbourne. The company’s Dover Street Market stores also have dedicated Pocket spaces, as does its Comme des Garçons store in Chelsea.

Kith Opens Redesigned Brooklyn Store

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Talk about being meticulous.
Ronnie Fieg considered every detail in the redesign of Kith’s Brooklyn location on Flatbush Avenue, which opened Monday.
The store, which was designed in collaboration with architecture firm Snarkitecture, is full of Instagram bait for Fieg’s sneaker-obsessed following.
“I’m invested in spaces as much as I’m invested in product,” said Fieg. “Building an experience is as important as building product because experiences stay in the memory bank.”
When shoppers enter the store, they are greeted by a Kith logo on a white marble herringbone floor, which is perfectly positioned for the brand’s snap-happy customers to shoot from above alongside the sneakers they’re wearing. On the ceiling there are 750 suspended cast-Air Jordan II sneakers, a design element that’s also featured at Fieg’s Manhattan store, which displays cast-Air Jordan I sneakers.
“The way I look at my brand and life is like a timeline,” said Fieg, who added that his women’s store, which is set to open in SoHo on Bleecker Street this December, will be decorated with cast-Air Jordan III sneakers.
Footwear from brands including Nike, Asics, Buscemi and Adidas are displayed on both sides of the store behind glass walls, lending a gallery feel to the boutique. On the other

“With its cool and laid-back attitude, San Diego is the perfect location for a John Varvatos store,” said designer John Varvatos. “The John Varvatos brand and aesthetic is very much in tune with the Southern California lifestyle, while offering a very strong and distinct masculine point of view — something that is unique in the area.”
The store offers a rock ‘n’ roll-inspired atmosphere and includes a glazed brick and antique-finished zinc metal window in front. In partnership with Rock Paper Photo, the walls are decorated with an assortment of music photographs inspired by the area and include portraits and live-performance shots of Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, The Mamas and the Papas and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Azzedine Alaïa ‘Couture/Sculpture’ Exhibit Opens in Rome

The Galleria Borghese museum in Rome on Thursday was brimming with tourists taking in the incredible collection of art on display, but Azzedine Alaïa was quite the showstopper himself as he walked through the building’s ornate salons with WWD for a preview of the “Couture/Sculpture: Azzedine Alaïa in the History of Fashion” exhibition. Signing autographs and posing for a few selfies with visitors professing enduring admiration, Alaïa carefully tucked a pleat here and fixed a drape there on some of the 65 designs on display. The looks seamlessly fit in with the art, whether they be bondage dresses in the Egyptian room or a crocodile jacket standing next to an antique armored bust.
“This is a mythical location, the most replete with masterpieces, and we did not want to move them around or disturb them,” said Alaïa, acknowledging the privilege of showing his designs in such a venue. Dresses in blue or red velvet stood near paintings by Caravaggio, almost reflecting the masterpieces’ lighting, while the designer’s dresses made with feather-light raffia and shells, horsehair or shark skin could have been inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s stunning marble statue of “Apollo and Daphne” depicting the nymph morphing into a tree. Joan Lunden Opens Up About Her ‘Emotional Breakdown’ After Cancer Treatment

It’s been one year since veteran TV host Joan Lunden heard the words that completely changed her life: “You have cancer.” Since then, she’s appeared in all her beautiful, bald glory on the cover of People magazine, tested negative for any remaining cancer and launched ALIVE, an online TV network where women openly discuss their own battles with the disease.

But the picture isn’t completely rosy. On Wednesday, Lunden spoke with HuffPost Live’s Nancy Redd and fellow breast cancer survivor Anne Marie Giannino-Otis about the often-underestimated challenges of recovery after cancer treatment.

“There are all these things that nobody tells you about. Everybody is focused on losing your hair. Okay, that happens, but your hair actually grows back. … [But] there are a lot of other things that live on after, and certainly one of the biggest ones is the fear of recurrence,” Lunden said.

When Giannino-Otis noted that many women see their treatment as a “security blanket” and often confront new fear when it’s over, Lunden admitted that the most challenging part of her cancer battle has been the time since she ended treatment.

“I can tell you that I had a total emotional breakdown, and to me, the time since the treatment has been far harder,” Lunden said. “There’s a separation anxiety element to [ending treatment], but mainly it’s just … kind of like, ‘Okay, go now, and have a nice life and hope it’s all okay.’ And it’s really hard after that. I mean, I will tell you the most emotionally difficult time for me has been since my last day of treatment.”

Queen Latifah Opens Up About Those Lesbian Love Scenes In ‘Bessie’

On-screen love scenes, gay or straight, should not be a matter of controversy, according to Queen Latifah.

Latifah spoke with BET about a same-sex kiss in the upcoming HBO biopic, “Bessie,” in which she stars as legendary blues singer, Bessie Smith, who was bisexual.

“You know, people feel a type of way when they see any sexuality on-screen, to me, and I think it’s almost human nature,” she said. “People are so fascinated by it. There shouldn’t even be a discussion, but it is because people are still curious and people still wonder how they feel about things. At the end of the day, I don’t really care if someone feels uncomfortable about it. It is what it is, and it’s life. So you either deal with it or not, you know? That’s your choice. It’s just part of who she is. I had to tell the story honestly.”

Latifah, who bares it all in “Bessie,” added that she hopes viewers don’t focus only on Smith’s romantic interests.

“I hope that it doesn’t become the sole issue because it’s really not just, you know, one thing about Bessie. There’s so many parts of who she was. [Her sexuality] was just part of it,” Latifah said.

In the April/May 2015 issue of Uptown magazine, the actress, who has faced rumors over her own sexuality, said she thinks that “people’s ideas in general are antiquated when it comes to who you love” and that society has not progressed quickly enough.

Emilio Pucci Opens Store in Miami Design District

WELCOME TO MIAMI: Emilio Pucci opened its third store in Florida, in the Miami Design District. Pucci’s famed Torre print, originally designed in 1966, embellishes the entire facade. Painted in giant black and white mazelike blocks, the facade appears like an optical public artwork hanging above the sidewalk. Inside, white terrazzo tiles and white walls provide a canvas for the colorful clothing hanging on open brass fixtures. The cashier’s table is cut from a rose-colored travertine stone, a key material in all new Pucci stores. Located at 140 NE 39th Street, the one-floor boutique spans 1,600 square feet. The full Pucci spring collection is available, as well as special gowns, beaded caftans and embroidered pieces that cater to the Miami clientele. Maison Kitsuné Opens Second New York City Store

NEW YORK — Maison Kitsuné has landed in the Lower East Side.
The French and Japanese fashion brand has opened its second New York City store on Rivington Street between Bowery and Chrystie Streets.
Although the block isn’t a prime retail destination, the 700-square-foot shop fits right in. It sits next to Green Fingers, a Japanese botanical shop that will fill the new space with plants, and is across the street from the Freemans mini empire, whose lifestyle proposition — it expanded from a restaurant to a barber shop and men’s wear brand — is quite similar to that of Maison Kitsuné, which started as a music label, evolved into an apparel brand, and now has two Café Kitsuné shops in Paris and one in Tokyo.
Masaya Kuroki, who cofounded the brand in 2002 with Gildas Loaëc, Daft Punk’s former manager, is pleased with the location.
“It’s important to feel the neighborhood. There’s already a life and culture here,” said the architect-turned-designer, who was happy to see three stylish men attempt to browse the store before it officially opened last Friday.
Kuroki thought in dichotomies when designing the store. While he wanted the space to be a rougher take than the brand’s first New York

Edwin Opens First Store in Germany

SUBCULTURE SPREAD: Japanese denim manufacturer Edwin opened its first store in Germany — a monobrand boutique in Berlin’s jeans district around Hackescher Markt — on Thursday.
“After Paris and London, we decided on Berlin because Germany is a big and important market. It’s also the most open and creative city, the home of subculture, and that’s what denim is,” said Edwin brand manager Pierre Boisselle.
The Berlin store carries the complete men’s and women’s wear collections, accessories and Edwin’s seasonal collaborations with friends and like-minded creative types.
The 700-square-foot space on Rochstraße takes a cue from the low-key designs of the three existing Edwin stores, with simple metal racks and fiber boards, yet has an even more minimalist, white-cube style.
It’s only the fourth monobrand store for the company established in Japan in 1947, but Edwin is aiming at expanding its monobrand strategy with other boutiques to be opened in Milan and London’s Covent Garden this year.
“The market getting more and more difficult for multibrand stores, and we believe in monobrand stores,” said Boisselle. “It is also a better way to develop and present our brand. We can show progressive collections and collaborations that would not be seen at stockists this way, so it’s also a

Hermès Opens Wanderland Exhibition

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: Hermès is taking a trip — to nowhere in particular — with an exhibition that opens today dedicated to flânerie, or the act of wandering the city streets and drinking in the details of everyday life. Wanderland will run until May 2 at the Saatchi Gallery in London, and move to Paris in September, Turin, Italy, in December and China next year.
Hermès has dedicated 2015 to the theme of flânerie and transformed an upper floor of the gallery into a series of whimsical and surreal settings across 11 rooms. One features vintage walking sticks — including one for the dandy, with a built-in bit of chalk for cleaning the collar and a brush for dusting down the suit — while another is filled with graffiti created by the artist known as Cept, and another with floor panels that “talk” when a visitor walks on them. A café dedicated to lost objects features little tables inset with pocket watches or tiny paint boxes that, on closer inspection, feature film screens the size of postage stamps. Valentino Opens New Rome Flagship

ROME — Valentino is as much part of Rome as the Spanish Steps.
It is not surprising, then, that the Italian brand’s biggest flagship globally should be on Piazza di Spagna here, one of the busiest and most famous locations in the world near those very steps, in a 16th-century palazzo and a few yards away from the company’s headquarters in Piazza Mignanelli.
“The boutique has a symbolic value, it’s in the most central square in Rome near our headquarters, and the city has always been a source of inspiration for us,” said Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of the brand with Pierpaolo Piccioli, in a joint interview at their office here. While the store bowed ahead of the Easter weekend, Valentino will mark its official opening with a couture show on July 9, for the occasion to be held in Rome rather than in Paris. Guests are expected to total around 700. “It’s like we are finally inviting everyone to our own home,” Chiuri said.
“This is a very important opening with a strategic relevance after our units in Hong Kong and New York, the two world capitals of consumer spending,” said chief executive officer Stefano Sassi. “Piazza di Spagna has an

Riccardo Tisci’s New Givenchy Men’s Unit Opens

PARIS — Riccardo Tisci can add lead architect to his list of accomplishments at Givenchy.
The brand’s new men’s flagship in the Marais district here, slated to open to the public today, was conceived by the 40-year-old couturier and underscores how far he has propelled the men’s business, which now accounts for half of Givenchy’s revenues.
Not bad, considering Tisci was a complete newbie when he introduced his first men’s collection for spring 2009, igniting trends to athleticism and androgyny that continue to influence the industry — and drive Givenchy.
“We see men’s as a very strategic business,” said Philippe Fortunato, Givenchy’s chairman and chief executive officer, citing dynamic sales not only in established Western markets, where the brand has historic resonance, but emerging ones as well, particularly China and Korea. “The younger generation is spending much more on themselves.”
While he declined to give first-year sales projections for the 5,000-square-foot unit, Fortunato said: “We have high expectations for this store…It’s the achievement of a well-performing men’s business.”
In his first interview since joining Givenchy last September from Louis Vuitton, Fortunato also disclosed Givenchy has signed leases to open boutiques in two key wholesale markets, the U.S. and Italy:
• In New York, a 4,600-square-foot flagship is
