Visiting an outlet store can be a great way to pass the time outdoors—running from shop to shop in search of the best deal. But there can be a lot of hidden costs that come along with shopping them as well. Many are often located in the middle of nowhere, which translates into time and gas money spent to make it to your final destination. Once you’re there, the feeling that you have to make the trip worth your while sinks in. Unfortunately that often means buying heels that are too high or pieces that don’t fit correctly just to show that you really killed it at the outlets. Our solution to this problem? Shop these four department stores online instead. You’ll find killer sales on past-season items and save yourself the hassle.
3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli messenger, $ 449, barneyswarehouse.com; Giuseppe Zanotti
Cuban link wedge sandals, $ 359, barneyswarehouse.com; Marc by Marc Jacobs Metropolitote bag, $ 219, barneyswarehouse.com
Barneys Warehouse: Three years ago Barneys broke the news that its twice-annual in-store Barneys Warehouse Sale, the shopping bonanza that promises designer goods at a steal, would no longer exist. The company told Racked LA that instead, “As part of our digital strategy to create a true omnichannel experience for customers, Barneys New York has brought the Warehouse Sale online.” Mine the robust section of accessories on the site. There you’ll find everything from 3.1 Phillip Lim and Marc by Marc Jacobs bags to Isabel Marant and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes at 50 to 60 percent off the original price. The added sales during holiday weekends are also amazing—we’re talking an extra 50 to 60 percent off of many items.
Adrianna Papell V-neck scalloped dress, $ 90, lastcall.com; Via Spiga Scarpa double-breasted trench coat, $ 72.50, lastcall.com; Lafayette 148 New York Edita ruffled faux-wrap dress, $ 199.50, lastcall.com
Last Call: Neiman Marcus’ outlet brand offers many of the same names the main company sells (Stuart Weitzman, Diane von Furstenberg, and Michael Kors) in addition to 30 different designers that have pieces for plus-size women. Find them listed in the women’s apparel section of the site.
Saks Off Fifth: If you’re on the hunt for luxury goods at cheaper price point, Off Fifth is the site for you. The discounts may not be earth-shattering, but the department store’s online offshoot offers up a list of high-end designers that cannot be beat. Burberry London, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Marc Jacobs all offer a hearty selection of must-haves.
Want & Need cutout skater dress, $ 30 nordstromrack.com; Max Studio button-front romper
$ 40, nordstromrack.com, Jump lace slip dress, $ 50, nordstromrack.com
Nordstrom Rack: With new merchandise added every week, it’s no wonder people are obsessed with Nordstrom Rack. Similar to the other department stores listed before it, you’ll find an array of designer names at up to 70 percent off, but what really sets the brand apart is how seamlessly it works with its main branch and flash-sale site, HauteLook. You can redeem Nordstrom gift cards and also earn Nordstrom Rewards points by shopping at both brands. Another thing to note: All Nordstrom Rack stores offer alterations and tailoring services for both in-store and online purchases, including HauteLook items.
