RHOA’s Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks Spotted Together for the First Time Since Fallout

Have Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks finally patched things up?

Over the weekend, the former Real Housewives of Atlanta costars reunited for a friend’s birthday party, marking the first time the two have been spotted together since their friendship fell apart over a year ago.

In a video obtained by The Shade Room, Williams, 36, and Parks, 44, can both be seen in costume, happily posing for photos together.

Parks came under fire last year after admitting she spread inflammatory accusations to Williams that their RHOA costar Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker had planned on drugging Williams and their mutual friend Shamea Morton in order to take advantage of them sexually.

Williams also faced backlash for repeatings Parks’ accusations throughout season 9 because she believed the claims had come directly from Burruss.

In the final episode of the reunion, Parks apologized for spreading the gossip.

“I repeated it because I heard it,” she said. “I repeated what someone told me. I shouldn’t have repeated it. I screwed up … I’m sorry.”

Parks was later let go from the show after revealing she had heard the information from an unnamed source.

Last year, Williams told Dish Nation that she didn’t know if she would ever be able to speak to Parks again.

“It’s difficult because I love Phaedra,” Williams said. “She was like my best friend — someone I talked to on the phone every single day. And for me to feel like she had betrayed me like that. … And the fact that I was sitting right there and watched her continue to lie on me about it.”

“That’s the part I can’t get past and I don’t know if I ever will,” she continued. “Right now, I just can’t talk to her.”

Amy Poehler Comments On Death Of ‘Parks & Rec’ Producer Harris Wittels

Amy Poehler was honored at Thursday night’s unite4:humanity gala for her work with Worldwide Orphans Foundation, but the “Parks and Recreation” star used the event to pay tribute to Harris Wittels. The 30-year-old “Parks and Rec” producer, writer and guest star died on Thursday at his home.

“Today, I lost a friend,” Poehler said. “I lost a dear young man in my life, who was struggling with addiction and who died. Just a few hours before we came. […] I’m sharing it with you because life and death live so close together and we walk that fine line every day. At the end of the day when things happen in our lives we turn to the people that we love and we look to our family and our community for support and we lean on people in a hope that they will ease our pain.”

Wittels had gone to rehab twice for drug addiction. He memorably talked about it during an episode of the Nerdist podcast “You Made It Weird.”

“I have done drugs recreationally since I was, like, 12,” Wittels said in the episode, which aired in November of last year. “The thing that happens with opiates is you get sick. You fucking go into withdrawals. So now it’s like I have to do drugs, or I’m not well.”

No cause of death has been determined for Wittels yet. According to the Los Angeles Times, an autopsy will likely be performed this weekend and results of any toxicology tests will not be known for more than six weeks.

Poehler wasn’t the only member of the “Parks and Recreation” team to comment Wittels’ death. Rob Lowe, who also appeared on the show, tweeted his condolences:

Harris Wittels, ‘Parks And Rec’ Executive Producer, Found Dead At 30

Harris Wittels, co-executive producer of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Thursday. TMZ was first to report the news, which was confirmed to The Huffington Post by a spokesperson for Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

In a statement to The Huffington Post, a Los Angeles Police Department representative said the 30-year-old was found by his assistant at around 12 p.m. PT on Thursday. The cause of death is not yet determined, and will be decided by coroner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, police responded to a call to Wittels’ home for a possible overdose.

Wittels had spoken about his battle with drug addiction in the past, and had been to rehab twice.

In addition to “Parks and Recreation,” which ends it series run next week, Wittels also worked on series such as “Eastbound And Down,” and “The Sarah Silverman Program.” He is also credited with coining the term “humblebrag,” a type of boast disguised in modesty. He published a book in 2012, “Humblebrag: The Art Of False Modesty,” based on his Twitter account.

Bill Murray Played The Mayor On ‘Parks & Rec,’ Making Amy Poehler’s Dreams Come True

In the stretch toward its final episode, “Parks and Recreation” is pulling out all the stops. On Tuesday night, that meant a little old guest appearance by Bill Murray. Yes, BILL MURRAY was on “Parks and Recreation.”

The actor appeared as Walter Gunderson, the deceased mayor of Pawnee — a character widely referenced throughout the show’s history but never before depicted. The mayor spoke to his residents from the grave in a little video message, and had an open casket at his funeral.

Getting Murray to play the mayor of Pawnee has been a dream of Amy Poehler and the “Parks and Rec” cast and crew for years. Back in 2011, Poehler mentioned her wish to cast him in an interview at PayleyFest and during an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” She brought it up it again in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sundance in 2013.

“I want Bill Murray to play the mayor,” she said “And I just dream about it every night. I whisper it to a bird and then I open the window and the bird flies away.”

Show creator Mike Schur told Entertainment Weekly that when they did finally manage to snag the actor, he was the perfect addition on set.

“He was just the most delightful person,” he said. “Not only was he incredibly complimentary of the show, he went around to every one of the actors and told them how great they were and cited specific episodes and moments. He hung out on the set for three hours, watching us shoot the show.”

The man, the myth, the legend.

New ‘Parks And Rec’ Teaser Previews A Futuristic Final Season

Coming to you from the future, 2017, the new teaser for the final season of “Parks and Recreation” gives us a few hints about what’s ahead for our best friends in Pawnee. The 30-second clip, which debuted on EW.com, shows a time where drones fly over Leslie and Ben’s house, April plays with a hologram tablet (we think), Andy has his own TV show and Jerry — we mean Gary — goes by Terry.

The seventh and last season of “Parks and Rec” returns to NBC on Jan. 13 and will roll out two episodes a week until the one-hour series finale on Feb. 24.

Suzan-Lori Parks Returns From the Wars Triumphant

2014-10-28-FatherWar0641rR.jpg

Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3). Photo: Joan Marcus

“Dark is the night, long is the day” sings a balladeer at the beginning of Suzan-Lori Parks’ masterful Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3) at the Public. Since the ushers — along with the ticket-takers and elevator attendants — have all warned us that the first act runs nearly two hours, we might well hear this as “long is the play.” Long, perhaps; but as soon as Parks draws you into her epic, you’re likely to lose any notion of time.

The almost three hours of Father Comes Home from the Wars will leave you eager for more. A good thing, as there is more; namely Parts 4-9. It is only a foolhardy or brilliant playwright who will scope out a scheme which will require the erstwhile theatergoer to buy multiple tickets in order to see one complete work; The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Angels in America and The Orphans’ Home Cycle spring to mind. While it is too early to place Father Comes Home from the Wars in such company — Parks has yet to write all nine of the interrelated one-acts, after all — the first three parts are overloaded with soaring language, trenchant philosophy and provocative debate.

A Measure of a Man starts with a Greek chorus of four “less than desirable” slaves standing on what passes for the local street corner — it is 1862, on a dusty plantation in West Texas — betting on whether Hero, the #1 slave, will chose to go to the War as Boss-Master’s servant-slave. (It’s a society without money; one fellow bets his boots, another his spoon.) We begin to see the universality of this journey — and this cycle of plays — when we learn that Hero’s wife is named Penny, and that his cross-eyed dog is Odd-See (or Odyssey); there is no Ulysses present, at least early on, other than that marauding general up North.

What makes the burgeoning evening most exciting is that Parks’ Greek drama of the American Civil War, set very much in period, is contemporary; there is enough in the characters and the dialogue — even in the costumes, with some actors drifting on wearing basketball sneakers — to tell us that Father Comes Home is a play of ideas and freedom that directly speaks to us, here in the 21st century.

The expansive nature of the cycle becomes apparent in the second one-act, A Battle in the Wilderness. The time is later that year, the place a shaded area in the middle of nowhere, the middle of no man’s land. A Confederate colonel — Hero’s owner — is holding a Union captain captive in a wooden cage. Or is he a Union captain? Hero stands guard, but the slave has far more in common with the captive. Parks corners her characters into discussions of freedom, slavery and worth. How much is Hero, in fact, worth? He pridefully considers his monetary value; eight hundred dollars, or isn’t he really worth a thousand? If the South loses, though, he is free — and not worth a dollar. Which is the better existence? And what if he escapes? Is he in effect stealing eight hundred dollars from his hated, hateful master? If slavery is an immoral institution, what does it mean for a slave to be true to his owner?

2014-10-28-FatherWar0006rR.jpg

Louis Cancelmi and Sterling K. Brown in
Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3). Photo: Joan Marcus

After intermission comes the third play, The Union of My Confederate Parts. This is Hero’s homecoming from the War in 1863, not as a hero but in defeat. (The War rages on but Boss-Master has been killed in battle.) Penny/Penelope has waited for him, although there are a couple of surprises in store. There are also some runaway slaves hiding on the plantation; as Part 3 ends, they escape — not knowing that they are technically free, courtesy of the just-declared Emancipation Proclamation. There is much cross-discussion of loyalty and bonds, but the answers are never easy. Parks ups the ante in this section by adding an element of outrageous fantasy that is mighty farfetched, but it works so deliciously well that we are sent out into the night eager for Parts 4, 5 & 6.

Director Jo Bonney (of Small Engine Repair and By the Way, Meet Vera Stark), who has been part of Father Comes Home since 2009, has done a masterful job and is clearly an intrinsic part of the project, which is a coproduction of the Public (Oscar Eustis) and the American Repertory Theatre (Diane Paulus). All deserve credit for the work they’ve done and the work yet to do, as does the design team of Neil Patel (sets), Esosa (costumes) and Lap Chi Chu (lighting). The ten-person cast of relatively little-known actors does wonderfully well, with standout turns by Sterling K. Brown (Hero), Jenny Jules (Penny), Jeremie Harris (Homer), Louis Cancelmi (Smith, the captive soldier) and Jacob Ming-Trent in a perfectly droll impersonation.

At this point in the creation of the cycle, A Battle in the Wilderness — with its concentration on slavery and freedom, leading to a sudden (and unexpected) moment of unharnessed emotion — is the strongest of the plays. The Union of My Confederate Parts is a close second, thanks in part to that fantastical whimsy which provides clarity. Parks is already a Pulitzer-winner for her 2001 play Topdog/Underdog, and a winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant. Father Comes Home from the Wars — and we have no way of knowing whether the cycle will stay in the Civil War era or move on to other prominent American wars — is on track to be monumental.

.

Listen To ‘South Park’s Fake Lorde Song, ‘Push (Feeling Good On A Wednesday),’ In Full

“South Park” has released the full fake Lorde song, “Push (Feeling Good On A Wednesday),” from the recent episode in which it was revealed that Lorde is actually character Randy Marsh in disguise. Lorde expressed her love for the caricature, praising the episode’s humor and “message of transgender acceptance.” While the song was recorded by Sia, that didn’t stop Lorde from taking a crack at the chorus herself. Further, “South Park” is giving the song away for free, so now there’s nothing stopping us from singing, “Now we push, push to stand together / Because I am Lorde, ya ya ya,” everywhere at every moment.

Amy Poehler Knows How ‘Parks And Rec’ Will End

While “Parks And Rec” fans are mourning the hiatus we must endure until 2014, Amy Poehler is opening up about the show’s inevitable end.

“To some extent, with the exception of one or two seasons, we never really know if we’re coming back,” Poehler said in an interview with Paper magazine. “I know how this season ends — it could be an ending for the show, or it could be an ending for the season.”

“I think I know how the show ends,” she added.

First Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones leave, now Poehler’s preparing for the end? This is too much for our Pawnee-loving hearts to handle.

“Parks And Rec” returns to NBC in 2014.

‘Parks & Recreation’ Election Results: Was Leslie Knope Recalled?

Parks & Recreation” returned from an unexpected hiatus with back-to-back episodes that decided Leslie Knope’s fate in Pawnee. It was election results time, and the whole gang vowed that they would stand by Leslie until all of the votes were counted. Expecting it to be a long night, Jerry-now-Larry went out for pizzas, but the results were in before he got back.

“Too close to call, a real nail-biter, anybody’s game,” Perd Hapley said to kick off his broadcast coverage. “These are three phrases you won’t hear tonight, as Leslie Knope has been voted out of office. What was expected to be a close race has actually been a not-close race.”

Of course, this was the moment Larry returned with the pizzas, singing a happy tune. “Larry, everyone is miserable, and you are only making it worse,” Chris told him.

With only one month left in office, Leslie ultimately vowed to buckle down and try and get as much done as she could. But that leaves the question open, what’s next for Leslie Knope? Will her political ambitions take on a more national scale? Will she seek a higher position in Pawnee?

Tune in to “Parks & Recreation,” Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC, to find out.
