Jared Leto ‘Proud’ to Be Part of Suicide Squad

Jared Leto is more than happy to continue playing the Joker in the DC Extended Universe.

His recent appearance on the Australian “Kyle and Jackie O” show featured a segment in which he was quizzed on his involvement in 2016’s Suicide Squad, which was notable both for his approach to the role—allegedly sending his castmates gifts including a live rat and a dead pig—and for Leto’s vocal disappointment over the way the Joker was handled in the film’s final edit.

Fay, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi Part Ways

MILAN — Fay and creative duo Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi have parted ways.
The designers joined the Italian label controlled by Tod’s Group in 2011, succeeding Giles Deacon, who collaborated on Fay from the women’s fall 2008 collection until the spring 2011 season. Previously, the brand’s collections were designed by an internal creative team.
“On behalf of the entire company I wish to thank Tommaso and Roberto for their most valuable contribution to the evolution of the brand,” said Tod’s Group vice president Andrea Della Valle. “I personally think that this collaboration has proven to be extremely fruitful for both sides.”
“This was really a great experience, which naturally came to an end after six years,” said Aquilano, who was reached by phone on Friday afternoon. “This partnership definitely ended on a happy note with satisfying feedbacks in terms of visibility and commercial results.”
In 2016, Fay benefited from its expansion around the world and showed a 5.3 percent increase in sales to 62.6 million euros, with a sharp acceleration in the fourth quarter.
At the group level, in the 12 months ended Dec. 31, sales totaled one billion euros.

Pal Zileri and Mauro Ravizza Krieger Part Ways

MILAN — Pal Zileri owner Forall SpA and creative director Mauro Ravizza Krieger have agreed to part ways.
“This is amicable,” Giovanni Mannucci, chief executive officer of Pal Zileri, told WWD. “We have talked about the development of the brand and a change made sense for both of us.”
Mannucci said he is focused on a new strategy that will be presented in January 2018 and declined to provide details about a possible successor at press time.
Ravizza Krieger joined Pal Zileri in July 2014 and played “a key role” in the repositioning of the brand, said Mannucci.
Ravizza Krieger’s last collection for Pal Zileri is for spring-summer 2018 and will be presented on June 18 in Milan at the Rotonda della Besana. It is understood he will not be at the event. Ravizza Krieger has worked with Caruso, Loro Piana, Herno and Luciano Barbera, and his first collection for Pal Zileri bowed in January 2015.
The group’s Pal Zileri LAB collection will be showcased in Florence during Pitti Uomo running June 13 to 16.

Until Death Does Its Part

Until Death Does Its Part

God gave and certainly He has all authority to take away; never needing to give any warning neither does He have to give any explanation to any one or give reason for His decisions. God is the creator of everything, and certainly life and death is in his hands. None of us know when it starts and neither does anyone know when it shall end, so we live each day like it will never end and embrace the next moment as its as last. Each day we awaken, we are granted time and space for this is all we have been given to be sure of and no one knows what else there is that we shall face before our days come to a close. So we live our lives in the process of time while each moment is filling with uncertainties in life. One thing comes, another leaves; something rises up and another falls; while one moves forward, another stands still; one cries and another is fill with laughter; some embrace love, but still there are those that hold on to hate; many become rich, and his brother remains poor; one seeks for his destiny, but the other man chooses not to care what it may hold; one studies to be educated, yet the other leaves it to those that feel it matters, for to him, it has no meaning. While war is in our midst, a baby is being born; some tables are set while another seek the crumbs from the trash of others; one is covered, but some still remain naked; some have much to share, still their greed holds shut their hands and another goes without; many lay in their beds while others seek shelter on the streets-for this we share in our life and this it is for everyone, for there is nothing else for us to do. Without hope in God, many are bound to lose, so I pray it’s Him that you will chose, for nothing else really matters and all will come to an end, yet we must keep living. “Until Death Does It Part!

This story is sizzling hot, and could be too hot to handle for some readers because Hollywood starlets will do anything, or anyone, to get the part. This is a short story of approximately 5900 words. This is a great story if you want a fun erotic read about Hollywood hotties getting down and dirty. Snippet: “You’re willing to go topless?” Abner said. “And be completely nude on set for the filming of love scenes?” “Yes.” “Take off your top,” he said. Megan perked up. They were treating her exactly the same. Even hot young super star Whitney Winns had to show them her tits. Whitney looked surprised. Megan begged the Heavens the stuck up super tramp would refuse. She knew the real Whitney, the man-eating, party-all-night-long Whitney. She knew the secret Whitney who got drunk, took off her clothes, and danced naked atop tables. Almost nightly. And it looked like Whitney was going to refuse, until Abner started tapping one finger on Megan’s glossy. Whitney stared at the photo a long second, reached back and unzipped. Megan groaned, cursing her rotten luck. What was Abner doing? Did he just want to see Whitney’s tits? Or was he seriously considering giving Whitney the role? “I should’ve blown all four of them while I was out there,” she muttered, watching Whitney shimmy out of her tight leather dress. Planned Big Brotherhood: The Republican Doublethink Contradictions (Part 2)

Two major GOP cornerstones are family values and limited government, but limited government excludes providing Americans with a higher standard of living through investing in social programs, but is embraced when using the government as a tool to impose Christian morality on the daily lives of Americans.

This surge in Christianity within the Republican Party began as early as the 1960s, but largely escalated during Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign in 1980 as a means of attracting socially conservative Evangelical voters. The GOP successfully employs an ideology that supports right-wing Christianity as a basis of cultural norms, while dividing voters over social issues, under the guise of “morality.”

This segment of the American population has fallen under the pretense of “Slavery Is Freedom.”

Through the constant delusional fear of socialism and the “moral decay of America,” the conservative Christian segment of the U.S. is convinced that imposing their beliefs on others will save this country from being overrun by homosexual, transgendered, pot-smoking Whole Foods shoppers waiting to sodomize and abort freedom-loving Americans before converting them to communist Islamic terrorism.

During the second GOP debate, candidates clamored to display their insatiable compulsion to defund Planned Parenthood. Chris Christie, Walker, and Jeb Bush — all current or former governors — each bragged out about shutting down the women’s health organization in their home states.

Cruz called the group “an ongoing criminal enterprise.”

Mrs. Fiorina attacked the organization and its supporters.

“Liberals and progressives will spend inordinate amounts of time and money protecting fish, frogs and flies,” Mrs. Fiorina said, adding: “They do not think a 17-week-old, a 20-week-old, a 24-week-old is worth saving. This, ladies and gentlemen, is hypocrisy, and it goes to the core of the character of our nation.”

However, Planned Parenthood estimates 515,000 unintended pregnancies and 216,000 abortions are averted each year due to their contraceptive services while 4,665,000 men, women and young people worldwide are provided with sexual and reproductive health care and education annually.

The Republicans are so pro-life, they want to shut down the organization that actually helps reduce abortions and promotes reproductive health. Considering 97 percent of Planned Parenthood’s services aren’t abortion-related, and the Hyde Amendment prevents federal funding of abortions, defunding the women’s health organization doesn’t achieve the GOP’s intended goals.

Considering this contradictory approach to curbing abortion rates, shutting down Planned Parenthood makes about as logical sense as a nutritionist telling a Biggest Loser participant that a diet of Super Sized Big Macs will give them a Zac Efron body.

The Republicans are so hell-bent on protecting innocent lives, they blocked a bill that would restrict access to guns after 20 children and six adults were fatally shot in Sandy Hook Middle School. Mr. Cruz was the ringleader in filibustering such dreadful legislation.

Nine out of 10 Americans supported universal criminal and mental health background checks in the wake of this horrific shooting, but House and Senate Republicans didn’t hesitate to block proposals that would ban certain military-style assault rifles and limit the size of ammunition magazines and keep these weapons out of the hands of potentially dangerous people.

This is clearly because they care so much about freedom, democracy, representing the will of the people and the sanctity of life.

“Guns save lives” is a staple of Republican talking points, but the CDC reports roughly 30,000 annual Americans deaths caused by guns – 60 percent from suicide, a grotesquely overlooked statistic in the gun-control debate. This position essentially argues that any attempt at better regulating guns and bolstering mental health care would result in even more casualties.

In another attempt to mobilize Christian America, the arrest of Kim Davis for failing to uphold her duty as Rowan County clerk by refusing to issue marriage certificates to newly-wed gay couples because of her Christian faith, was a hot topic in the second debate.

Mike Huckabee is clinging onto Ms. Davis for campaign attention like a self-serving Facebook activist clings to a trending event to show the world how much they’re helping a cause by posting a status.

She has become a martyr for people who are unaware that a martyr has to die for a cause in order to qualify as one. Meanwhile, he claims that the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage has resulted in the “criminalization of Christianity.”

Huckabee sounds like your senile grandfather recalling America’s glory days when he asserts America is experiencing a widespread rejection of Jesus during a time when 70.6 percent of the nation is Christian and 43 consecutive presidents of Christian faith or Christian backgrounds have been elected to the Oval Office.

Moreover, 28 states do not have laws protecting LGBT workers from employment discrimination or being fired for their sexual orientation. An additional three states lack laws that protect gender identity employment discrimination. There was also that Hobby Lobby Supreme Court case that granted businesses religious beliefs, because major corporations have feelings too.

Befuddling as it may be, the former Arkansas governor pleas for a national acceptance of Christianity through using Kim Davis as a beacon of tolerance.

Family values and morality don’t include improved access to education, childcare, health care and retirement benefits in the GOP agenda. Conservatives write these policies off as the promotion of a “nanny state” that imposes government on the personal lives of Americans.

Rather than promote Christian morals that makes child rearing and sustainable income easier for hard working American households, this concept has been manipulated to use religion to justify discrimination toward anyone who doesn’t conform to a “traditional” American lifestyle.

Republicans aren’t pro-life, they are simply pro-birth, as their policies ignore the well-being of millions of Americans and distract voters with social issues that cause them turn a blind eye to more grave, looming economic dilemmas.

The final part of this series will illustrate how many Americans have come to accept these illogical and contradictory statements.

The Revenge Game: A Tale of Domination and Seduction Part 1

The Revenge Game: A Tale of Domination and Seduction Part 1

I’m just an average guy, who, like any other red-blooded male, appreciates and loves beautiful and sexy women. I love the way women smell, look, feel, taste, even their sexy voices are so alluring and arousing. The way they move their hips when they walk in those high-heeled pumps that make their legs look so shapely and tighten their asses and push out their tits. The guy who invited those high-heeled shoes should have a holiday named after him. I’ve been with my wife for a little over four years now and I have never once cheated on her in those four years. I was a senior in college and she was a senior in high school when we started dating. A year after she graduated high school, we were married. She was going to college at the time and was balancing her school work and planning a wedding. But, she pulled it off. After I graduated from college with a degree in business, I joined my dad’s stock brokerage firm and immediately began making money. It also helped that I had a trust fund, so that paid for my wife’s college and our beautiful new home. My wife graduated college this year and was taking a break, and then she is going to put out her resumes. But, I digress… Present day… So, yeah, I’m laying here tied to a bed blindfolded. I bet you are wondering how I got to this point in my life. Well, that’s not my wife over there dressed in a black leather dress. That’s my wife’s best friend. I bet you’re thinking I’m having an affair with her. If only it were that easy. Actually I wish it were that easy. Then I could just slowly slip away. But, Kendra, that’s my wife’s best friend’s name, pretty much owns me now.

Hot Excerpt:”Why are you covering yourself, Ms. Booker?” Kaden stepped forward, dropping the little can of touchup paint and brush. Rena receded into the kitchen. The heat in her face plunged downward making her push her hand harder over her nether regions.”What type of question is that?” She gave him an incredulous look and she backed into the refrigerator. “Don’t make me have to defend myself.”Why would you need to do that?” Kaden walked up to her, letting his eyes wander over her curvy body. “I can smell your lust and you would have hit me by now.”What? Smell lust? Who says that?” Rena gave a nervous laugh then stopped when Kaden dropped to his knees and looked up at her.”I can do much more than that little toy,” he gave her a seductively sweet smile. Rena’s breath caught and her heart beat hard into her ribcage. Is he serious? Had to be. He was on his knees, level with her covered mound. Rachel Resheff – Teenaged Broadway Veteran – Part 1

2015-07-07-1436311874-4134309-RachelResheff_Headshot_PhotoBy_EmilySoto_Small.jpg

Rachel Resheff’s Twitter: @rachelresheff . Photo by Emily Soto.

Ever have a friend who fits so many things into one day that it’s impossible to understand where they find the time for everything? Well, that’s actress Rachel Resheff.

I can’t even imagine how she found the time for this interview! Rachel put so much heart and soul into her answers I had to break it up into two parts, so be sure you check out both pieces.

Now let’s see what makes this 15 year-old so incredible!

Be sure to check out Part II to find out who Rachel played on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black!

You’re currently on Broadway in Larry David’s Broadway play Fish in the Dark w/ Jason Alexander. What was your audition like for this role?

I read about Fish in The Dark coming to Broadway in the Equity audition announcements. My family and I anticipated its arrival with excitement because we are huge Larry David fans. After learning that there was a role for a young teenage girl, my agent secured me an audition for the project. The breakdown of the character “Jessica Drexel” (Niece of “Norman Drexel” – played by Jason Alexander and originally played by Larry David) called for a 14-year-old intellectual Jewish girl. I went into the audition dressed as myself, since I was a pretty accurate fit for the character description.

There weren’t any suggestions or notes about the role or the show itself. Larry David, along with the director, Anna Shapiro and producer Scott Rudin were seeking all of the various parts of a dysfunctional family and so I believe it was about the feel of the actors and their personalities, as well as their ability to hit the comedy of the play, which is very quick, sharp, and funny. I think they were looking for real and simple in “Jessica Drexel”, as she is a kind of centered presence in a world of very larger than life people, and that worked in my favor in the process.

A few weeks after my first audition with casting, I was called back in to do my lines in different ways with casting. A few days after my callback, I met with Anna Shapiro who worked with me, taped my audition and sent it to Larry David and Scott Rudin to watch. A few days after that, I found out I booked the part!

Which coast is your main residence? Where were you born? Do you have siblings that live with you?

I was born in NYC. I have always lived on the East Coast, and that is where my family lives as well. I have two older siblings, a brother and sister, who have very different passions and interests than I do. We are a close knit family so when my brother goes to college this fall, we will feel happy for him, but sad for us. My sister will leave for college a year later, and I might have to stow away in her suitcase.

What kind of lessons do you take now? What kind of lessons did you take when you were little?

I have studied ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop since I was three years-old. Tap is my favorite because it has such a rhythmic and musical element. My dance teacher, Janine Molinari, is a huge tapper, and sets a bar I try to reach every day. Ballet is a foundation for all dance and I enjoy what it allows me to do as a performer.

My voice teacher helped me to see voice as a lifetime instrument, so it wasn’t until recently that I let my inner belt fly. Voice is an instrument that requires both patience and care. It has always been important to me to work on all different types and genres of music.

I also play guitar, which I taught myself, and have played the piano for five years. I currently am a student at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

On July 26, you will have your debut at 54 Below. How did this come about?

During a music coaching session, Lindsay Mendez who’s an amazing mentor in my life, suggested the idea about how fun it would be to perform a one-woman show about my life as a teen performer. After a call with 54 Below, Lindsay came back to me saying they loved the idea and concept of the show. Knowing Lindsay would be the perfect director, I asked Steven Lutvak, who co-wrote and composed the Tony Award winning A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder to musical direct the show. I was over the moon when he said he had time in his non-stop schedule. Steven has been my teacher, role model and friend since I first started in this business.

In “Unwrangled” I will chronicle what it is like to be a young professional actor growing up in the spotlight via a musical memoir; where I bring the wild aspects and spectrum of emotions to life. There are so many perceptions of who embarks on the type of journey I have had and what the path must be like. My goal is to bring people into that world and see why young performers have this unexplainable passion and how its collected moments are the reason us young actors keep doing what we do.

You’re 15 and already have been in five Broadway shows. (Fish in the Dark, The People In The Picture, Shrek, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins.) You’ve also done non-Broadway theater. Tell us the difference between working on Broadway vs. non-Broadway.

Broadway is larger than life, and there is an exuberant energy that flows when the audience is with you. I am so lucky to have had the opportunities I have had to be in Broadway shows. In Shrek the Musical when I was only eight years-old, I first learned about the magnitude of a Broadway stage in the 2,000 seat Broadway theater. I would come out in a big tower and sing with Sutton Foster, and then I would watch on the stage monitor as each ensemble actor and dancer would bring to life their stories. Each show has such different spirit and life backstage and onstage. Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot were about the bonding of all of the kids. Most Broadway shows make a big effort to cast kids who get along with other kids. I think that’s probably why the processes can involve multiple callbacks. At age 10, when I entered my fourth Broadway show, The People in the Picture, written by Iris Rainer Dart who is now bringing her new show Beaches the Musical to Broadway, I had the chance to create a very big part opposite Donna Murphy who played my grandmother. Onstage I would watch Donna as she held her glasses or tilt her head a certain way, or change so slightly the lilt of her voice, and I was mesmerized by how the character was inside her body. At the end of the show, when I was crying as Donna’s character died, I was crying from a very deep place because I had connected so much to her. Shows are finely tuned machines, and every actor relies on the precision, heart, and energy of every other actor.

Plays, on Broadway and Off Broadway, require a very strong sense of timing and there is a rhythm that has to develop among the actors that draws the audience in, because there isn’t the music and dance and movement that musicals have to energize the audience. Larry David’s play feels like live comedy every night. Larry and Jason Alexander have brought such different things to the lead role, but each one has brought a larger than life element that sets a tone for each of the amazing actors in the play to weave into. One of the Off Broadway plays I did, The Big Meal, directed by Sam Gold and written by Dan LeFranc, had the feel of an orchestra, with different generations acting simultaneously and literally bouncing rapid fire off phrases which is a very true re-enactment of how real life can be. Another play I did, Everything is Ours, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt and written by Nikole Beckwith, challenged the audience to look at how to connect to other people and form families in an increasingly remote world. Sometimes in plays, there can be even more of an intimacy that develops with the audience in a play in both large and small theaters. Besides the huge laughter and fun of working with the Fish in the Dark cast, the highlight of my last few years was playing the title role “Carrie” in a teen production of Carrie the Musical, produced by The Broadway Workshop, a youth and teen theater company run by Marc Tuminelli. The cast members remain some of my closest friends. I think for me, I love immersing myself in the world of a production, and getting into my groove with whatever part I play on stage.

New ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ Posters Show The Cast Ready For Battle

A new collection of “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” posters has been released, showing the cast decked out in war paint and ready for battle.

The series of images is titled “Faces of the Revolution” and features portraits of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Johanna (Jena Malone), Finnick (Sam Clafin), Prim (Willow Shields) and Boggs (Mahershala Ali), their faces painted with a red mockingjay.

Entertainment Weekly shared Gale’s poster, which shows him staring straight at the viewer, his eyes a piercing blue, with the words “Brothers Unite” and “The revolution is about all of us” printed across the bottom of the frame.

Katniss’ poster is equally dramatic, with her intense stare evoking the strength and determination that made her “The Mockingjay” in the first place.

All eight posters are being released by Lionsgate on July 6 via the film’s official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Comicbook.com has them all in one place for your viewing pleasure.

The posters come just a few days before Comic-Con, where the cast will be on hand for a Q&A about the final film in the franchise.

If only they’d release the movie already. Five months to go …

This Woman Refuses To Shave Her Armpits, And Gender Equality Is Only Part Of It

More and more women are refusing to shave their armpits — and resisting patriarchal beauty standards in the process.

Loyola University of Chicago student Bobby Crowley, who stopped shaving her underarms a few years ago, spoke to the double standard men and women face when it comes to their body hair in a conversation with HuffPost Live.

“It’s not just a body image thing, but it’s also a gender thing,” she said. “This is very clearly a gendered prescription that has been put upon women, whereas men are walking around and no one expects them to shave their armpits, obviously. People will talk about it like it’s a hygiene thing, but really it’s a gender thing. It’s absolutely only prescribed only to women, and there’s no way that women are any messier than [men], that’s for sure.”

While Lizzie Crocker, a staff writer at The Daily Beast, told HuffPost Live’s Nancy Redd that unshaven pits have become “inextricably linked to feminism,” Crowley said her choice to stop shaving was simply a personal one.

“Most importantly for me, when I started, it wasn’t about a movement. It wasn’t about anyone but myself. I would shave [my armpits] and they would be bleeding,” she said. “And really the reason I stopped is because I sort of looked at myself and said, I’m literally hurting myself every day because I have really sensitive skin.”

When she stepped back and questioned why she had been shaving every day, she had an epiphany.

“[I was not shaving] for me. It was a worry that when I lift my arms, I’m going to be shamed for having made a decision about my body that doesn’t go with how other people feel,” she said. “And that, to me, was most important.”

Cinema’s Hidden Pearls — Part II

One of nature’s rarest items, a pearl is produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. Truly flawless pearls are infrequently produced in nature, and as a result, the pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.

Hidden pearls exist in the world of movies, as well: films that, in spite of being brilliantly crafted and executed, never got the audience they deserved beyond a cult following.

Here are a few more of our favorite hidden pearls in the world of film:

1. Massacre at Central High (1976)

Dutch director, and former cameraman for the legendary Russ Meyer, Rene Daalder was hired by producers to direct an exploitation film set in a suburban high school with all the expected sex, nudity and violence that defines the genre. What they got instead was something totally unexpected: David (Derrel Maury) a sensitive, but extremely tough kid, transfers to Central High, where he reconnects with childhood pal Mark (Andrew Stevens) who is part of the school’s ruling clique, led the Hitler Youth-esque Craig (Steve Bond) who rule over the student body like a police state. When David stands up to their bullying of other, weaker students, the clique retaliates, crippling David, only to find themselves being picked off one-by-one, having finally messed with the right wrong person. Although it certainly contains the above-mentioned exploitation elements, Massacre is a thinly-veiled metaphor for the rise of Fascism in society, brilliantly executed by the filmmakers and its young, attractive cast (female lead Kimberly Beck was one of the great beauties of her day). Highly influential upon dozens of later “teen” films, most notably Heathers, the film has been embroiled in a rights battle between its producers for decades, keeping a proper DVD/Blu-ray release and restoration from happening. Named by Roger Ebert as one of the ten best films of 1976, Massacre at Central High is a unique work that is alternately unsettling, hilarious and very sexy.

2. Quadrophenia (1979)

Inspired by The Who’s second, eponymous rock opera, after the classic Tommy, Quadrophenia is one of the greatest youth movies ever made, easily standing tall next to Rebel Without a Cause, Easy Rider, Over the Edge, and more. Phil Daniels plays Jimmy, a disaffected 19 year-old done with school but still not grown up, making as meager a living as a working class lad can in 1965 London. His only sense of belonging and identity comes from being a Mod, youths who related to post-modern popular culture in their dress (sharp suits and short haircuts), musical taste (The Who, modern jazz) and vehicles (Vespa scooters). Jimmy pops blues (amphetamines), gets into brawls with Rockers (leather-clad kids who ride motorcycles and have tastes still rooted in 1950s outlaw culture) and pursues the elusive, beautiful Steph (Leslie Ash). Jimmy’s struggle to fit in and define himself is incredibly moving. When he reconnects with an old school pal (a young Ray Winstone) who turns out to be on the “wrong side,” Jimmy’s anguish is palpable, as is his final, stunning act of rebellion, played out on the White Cliffs of Dover. Watch for Sting in his film debut as Ace Face, leader of the Mods, who’s charismatic image masks a sad reality.

3. Zardoz (1974)

In an interview with director John Boorman earlier this year, I told him what a huge fan I’ve always been of his sci-fi film Zardoz, that I’ve seen it eight times, and I still don’t know what the hell it’s about. He laughed and agreed that he wasn’t quite sure, either. Sean Connery is Zed, a primitive warrior in a future world divided into two camps: the poor savages and the privileged immortals. The savages worship the god Zardoz, a flying stone head that disperses guns and wisdom (“The Penis is evil! The Penis shoots Seeds, and makes new life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the Gun shoots Death and purifies the Earth of the filth of Brutals. Go forth, and kill! Zardoz has spoken.”) Zed hitches a ride on the head and finds himself in the Vortex, home to the immortals, including the beautiful Consuela (the appropriately beautiful Charlotte Rampling), throwing the balance of the world off-center. Even watching this film stoned doesn’t quite make it add up, but it’s a stunning, wonderful ride nonetheless. New Blu-ray release makes it shine that much stronger.

4. Vanishing Point (1971)

Vanishing Point is the greatest existential chase/road picture ever made. The plot is so simultaneously simple and complex, it’s worthy of Camus: Kowalski (Barry Newman) is a professional driver who is hired to deliver a 1970 Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco in 15 hours. Along the way, he breaks every law governing speed on the books, sparks a cross-country manhunt by every trigger-happy law enforcement agency known to man, and becomes a folk hero to the audience of DJ Super Soul (Cleavon Little), who gives hourly updates on Kowalski’s progress to the rebellious youth of the day. Vanishing Point is one of those films that runs an hour and forty minutes (and in the European cut, which we prefer, a bit longer) and has maybe ten pages of dialogue: in short, it’s pure cinema. Directed by Richard C. Sarafian, who was primarily a character actor, and knocked this 90 mph fastball out of the park.

5. Electra Glide In Blue (1973)

Another existentialist masterpiece masquerading as a murder mystery/policier, Electra stars Robert Blake as John Wintergreen, a pint-sized Arizona Highway Patrolman whose Napoleon Complex gives him a fire in the belly for bigger, better things: namely a detective’s gold shield. When a hermit is found dead from a shotgun blast in his desert shack, Wintergreen sees the case, which has more to it than initially meets the eye, as his ticket to the big-time. The only directorial effort of James William Guercio, known primarily as being manager of the group Chicago (who make a memorable cameo as a band of murderous hippies), who wisely spent a big chunk of his budget hiring the great Conrad Hall to shoot his film, Electra is one of the greatest-looking films of that hallowed cinematic decade that was the ’70s. Blake gives his finest (and most ironic, given how his life played out) performance, with his monologue toward the film’s devastating climax (“Loneliness’ll kill you deader than a .357 Magnum”) one of the most heartbreaking speeches ever committed to film.

6. Witchfinder General (aka The Conqueror Worm, 1968)

The UK has a film ratings system that goes back to the early 20th century, 1912 to be exact. By the late 1960s, films like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Bonnie & Clyde and The Graduate pushed the need for such a system in the U.S. to its breaking point. A few films released in 1968 helped that final straw break. This was one of them. Telling the true story of the infamous Matthew Hopkins (Vincent Price in his greatest, least hammy performance), England’s infamous “witch hunter” who, with his assistant Stearne (Robert Russell) executed more than 300 people, mainly women, during their two to three years of ‘witch hunting’. Considering that 500 people in total were executed for witchcraft in England between the late 15th and late 18th centuries, it means that Hopkins was responsible for two thirds of these executions during a period of three years. Ian Ogilvy is the dashing young soldier who vows revenge upon Hopkins after his attack on his beautiful fiancée (Hilary Dwyer, both beautiful and a fine actress). In addition to a literate screenplay, inspired by Edgar Alan Poe’s The Conqueror Worm, the film’s then-unprecedented graphic violence, sex and nudity (still strong by today’s standards) was notable not only for its depiction, but for not being simultaneously exploitative. Director Michael Reeves, just 24 at the time of filming, gives the proceedings a matter-of-fact realism that makes it all the more disturbing. Sadly, Reeves would die of an accidental overdose a year after the film’s release.

7. El Topo (aka The Mole, 1970)

The first season of Saturday Night Live had one of their greatest fake commercials, showing Dan Ayckroyd and Gilda Radner arguing over whether an aerosol can’s contents contained a dessert topping or a floor wax. Chevy Chase then cheerfully enters, declaring “Shimmer is a floor wax AND a dessert topping!” Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo is much the same: It’s a spaghetti western. It’s a Christ allegory. It’s a comedy. It’s a tragedy. It’s profane. It’s reverent. It’s graphically violent and sexual. It’s peaceful and beautiful. And that’s just the first twenty minutes! Largely regarded as the first “midnight movie,” El Topo was lucky enough to be seen by John Lennon and Yoko Ono during a New York screening, who suggested to their then-manager, the notorious Allen Klein, that he distribute it through his newly-formed ABKCO Films, becoming an instant hit among the counterculture, yet never completely connecting with mainstream audiences, for obvious reasons.

8. Black Sunday (1977)

John Frankenheimer is the only director to rate two films on both lists. Based on Thomas (Silence of the Lambs) Harris’ first, and only, non-Hannibal Lecter novel. When a Black September terrorist camp is raided by a Mossad team, led by Commander Kabakov (Robert Shaw), all its denizens are wiped out, save the comely Dahlia Ilad (Marthe Keller) whom Shaw catches au naturele in the shower. The rest of the movie has Kabakov and his lieutenant (the late Steven Keats) trying to correct this mistake. Not only was Dahlia the most dangerous terrorist there, she is planning on hijacking the Goodyear Blimp with an unhinged Vietnam vet (Bruce Dern, at his best) and blowing up the Super Bowl! Prescient, to say the least, and almost unrelenting in its level of tension and suspense, Black Sunday also gains its brilliance from an utterly objective screenplay by Ivan Moffat, Ernest Lehman and Kenneth Ross, showing the clear POV of the Israeli, Palestinian and Americans involved. Released to be Paramount’s first blockbuster of 1977, the film got critical raves across the board, but tanked at the box office. Paramount released a terrific DVD about a decade ago, and now we wait anxiously for the Blu-ray this film, the best thriller of the ’70s, richly deserves.

9. Targets (1968)

After paying his dues working with “King of the Bs” Roger Corman for several years, Peter Bogdanovich was given the opportunity to write and direct his first film, a low budget affair that would have to be shot quickly. Bogdanovich and his then-wife/collaborator Polly Platt (along with uncredited work from the great Sam Fuller) came up with this ingenious little thriller, loosely based on University of Texas sniper Charles Whitman, about a deranged Vietnam vet sniper (Tim O’Kelly) and a veteran horror film star (Boris Karloff, in one of his final films) whose lives intersect at a drive-in theater in the film’s climax. Bogdanovich himself co-stars. The film was released only a month after the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, causing many theaters to refuse bookings and patrons to stay away. It’s now regarded as an overlooked masterpiece, rightfully.

10. Kiss Me Deadly (1955)

Director Robert Aldrich, best known for The Dirty Dozen and The Longest Yard, had his finest hour with this brilliant, bizarre reinvention of Mickey Spillane’s Fascist detective Mike Hammer. After reluctantly rescuing a damsel in distress (Cloris Leachman, her film debut) on a deserted highway, private eye Mike Hammer (the great Ralph Meeker) finds himself embroiled in a Byzantine plot of murder, graft, vice and an A-bomb! Arguably the single greatest influence on the filmmakers of the French New Wave, Aldrich broke new ground with his use of music, dialogue, sex and violence in a brutal noir that remains potent at age sixty. In 1955, however, it was too far out to connect with audiences, and was viewed as a box office failure. You’ll never forget the final scene on the beach.

Joe Manganiello Adorably Recites Part Of His Proposal To Sofia Vergara

When “Magic Mike” star Joe Manganiello proposed to Sofia Vergara last December, he was nervous — but it wasn’t because he thought the “Modern Family” leading lady would say no.

Instead, Manganiello, 38, was nervous about making a mistake reciting the Spanish proposal he’d been practicing for the occasion. Manganiello shared a part of the “big speech” during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Michael” on Monday.

“I wasn’t nervous that she was going to say no, I felt pretty confident in that,” said Manganiello, who is currently promoting his new film “Magic Mike XXL.” “But you only get one chance to do it, and if you’re going to do it, you gotta do it right. So there’s a lot of planning that goes in, and yeah, actually I proposed in Spanish.”

“So I had a big speech in Spanish, and that’s what I was nervous about,” the actor continued. “The last thing you want to do is, like, mess up the Spanish on the proposal to the Colombian woman.”

After host Kelly Ripa asked him to recite a portion of the proposal, Manganiello said that he told Vergara “Eres mi todo,” or “You are my everything,” during the speech.

Manganiello proposed to Vergara, 42, during a Christmas family vacation to Hawaii. Since then the Colombian star has teased at a possible destination wedding and confirmed that a date has been set.

“Yeah, we have a date,” Vergara told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show in May. “It was kind of difficult because we’re both working, and you never know what’s going to come in our work. But we had to stick to it because it was impossible to book a place with short notice.”

Vergara has kept most of the wedding details under wraps, but generally speaking, she’s been anything but quiet about her relationship with the “Magic Mike” actor. She even celebrated the couple’s first year together with a romantic Instagram post earlier this month.

Happy 1st Anniversary love of my life!!! Never been so happy!!#lucky❤️❤️❤️❤️@joemanganiello

This 53,000 word blockbuster is the 4th and final part of a BDSM series that spans 166,000 words and 540 pages of raw male and female domination. Every erotic taste is catered for in the 4 books of the series, from interracial and lesbian relationships, to Pony-girl, master, humiliation and collared submissive training. Mary escaped her abductor in part one and is searching for Jenny, who has been transformed into a Pony-girl. The four girls fall foul of the city laws, which dictate that any girl under 20, without a guardian, can be snatched off the streets and institutionalized into Cat houses. Mary is outwitted, by one priest, and then another, and submits to being dominated in order to protect her friend, Suzy. A stranger comes to the church and demands to have Mary for a night, to accompany him to a gambling party. All hell breaks loose at the party…The characters in this novel, experience female and male domination, training (BDSM), and bondage in rubber and leather. It also contains explicit sexual situations, and is very much a story for adults only (18+). Definitely not for those with delicate sensibilities.

Zoe Saldana On Nina Simone Criticism: ‘I Didn’t Think I Was Right For The Part’

The topic of race and casting in Hollywood resurfaced in the weeks since Entertainment Weekly published an essay by actor Michael B. Jordan on May 22.

In the essay, Jordan wrote about breaking down barriers with his role as the Human Torch, a character originally written as white with blue eyes and blond hair, in the forthcoming “Fantastic Four” film.

Jordan’s commentary prompted a response from actress Zoe Saldana, who supported the star’s thoughts in a Facebook post. In the post, Saldana posed a question to critics who were against Jordan playing the role.

If we question why Michael has been cast to play the Human Torch in Fantastic Four then we must also question why Elizabeth Taylor played Cleopatra, why Angelina Jolie played Mariane Pearl in a Mighty Heart, why Laurence Olivier played Othello, Burt Lancaster in Apache, and the list goes on….and on….

Saldana has faced similar criticism herself. In reaction to her casting as Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic “Nina,” some fans and critics suggested the actress was too light-skinned to portray the role.

The 36-year-old added to previous comments on the backlash this week in the July issue of InStyle magazine.

“I didn’t think I was right for the part, and I know a lot of people will agree, but then again, I don’t think Elizabeth Taylor was right for Cleopatra either,” she said in the interview. “An artist is colorless, genderless… It’s more complex than just ‘Oh, you chose the Halle Berry look-alike to play a dark, strikingly beautiful, iconic black woman.’ The truth is, they chose an artist who was willing to sacrifice herself. We needed to tell her story because she deserves it.”

For more of Zoe Saldana’s interview, check out the July 2015 issue of InStyle one it hits newsstands on June 15.

Types and Events of Disasters Organization in Various Disaster Situations: Part I

Types and Events of Disasters Organization in Various Disaster Situations: Part I

F.A. Bauhofer, Geneva In disaster situations, the particular concern of WHO is not so much to offer immediate relief and assistance for affected communities, but to have ready prepared plans for the provision of primary medical care as well as for resuscitation and casualty services. Disast- ers are characterized by a need for rapid assistance and by the inability of affected communities to cope with the large scale mortality, morbidity, and damage to essential installations and homes. In some highly elaborate and centralized societies even small- scale events may assume the proportion of a disaster, if they result in the serious break- down of vital services. The Executive Board of the World Health Organization has defmed disasters or “emergencies”, as situations where there are unforeseen, serious, and immediate threats to public health. Particularly severe disasters may be classified as catastrophes; such -occurrences, whether natural or man-made, disturb or overthrow the existing order. For planning purposes, it is important to distinguish between different types of catastrophes since they require special relief measures. In the past, medical assistance was primarily needed in epidemics of, for example, plague, cholera, and smallpox. Today, health authorities face emergency problems brought about by major accidents and outbreaks of chemical pollution and poisoning, which may have long-term effects. The role of health services may differ quite extenSively in different types of cata- strophes, and an attempt must be made to draw up specific plans to deal with them.

At His Insistence: The Billionaire’s Beck and Call, Part 4

When Isabeau reveals to Mr. Drake that she’s not ready to be his slave, he refuses to share his bed with her, giving her time to think about what she really wants. Will she let fear get in the way of the best thing that’s ever happened to her? When she decides to take a leap of faith, he’s one step ahead of her, sending a car to bring her to him as his date to an extravagant party, with one thing in mind: punishing her for her lack of trust in a way that will make her squirm. Will Isabeau succumb to fear, or will she finally give Mr. Drake the control he desires? This 5900 word story is the fourth part of the “Billionaire’s Beck and Call” series by best selling erotica and romance author, Delilah Fawkes. EXCERPT: I ran my hands over my temples. He could not be serious! He wanted me to wear this sex toy while he paraded me in front of investors and party guests. His business career could be on the line on a night like tonight, and he wanted to play games. But I had to admit, the thought of wearing this in front of a room full of strangers made my body tingle and my pulse race. It would be a secret only the two of us knew about, and if I judged him right, he’d have the control to flip the switch and turn it on whenever he pleased, controlling my body beneath everyone’s noses, and no one the wiser. Unless I screwed up and let my feelings show. I bit my lip, fear and excitement warring within me. I’d show him just how cool I could be. I wouldn’t disappoint him. I took a deep breath at the top of the winding main staircase, steeling myself. You can do this, Isabeau. Just breathe. I held onto the handrail and moved down the steps carefully, my core squeezing around the egg beneath my new lace panties. I still couldn’t believe I was doing this, but the thought of Mr. Drake somewhere below, waiting to turn me on was almost too much to bear. I felt like I was on fire for him,

What Type of Jewelry Is Most Popular in Your Part of the Country?

We talk a lot about national (and international) trends, but what about the more minute, localized ones? Different zip codes in the U.S. adopt their own uniforms, and it’s totally obvious when you take a stroll around the local mall. Since flying city to city would take a while (and is tough on the budget), we took luxury consignment site The Real Real up on an offer to peek at its shopping numbers, broken down by big American markets.

statement-necklaces-fashion-week

The Midwest
Judging by shoppers in areas like Chicago, this is a part of the country that really likes things simple, classic, and sophisticated. Think statement studs and bracelets you can still wear every day, plus watches that add a final bit of polish.
[Top 3 sellers: Hermès enamel bracelets, Chanel earrings, Cartier watches.]

The Northeast
Typically quick to endorse trends, the Northeastern shopper fills her e-cart with both boundary-pushing, bold numbers and longtime classics. It speaks to a switch-it-up sensibility, by which ladies wear a conversation-starter one day and bust out chic basics the next.
[Top 3 sellers: Eddie Borgo necklaces, Cartier ‘Love’ bracelets, Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti necklaces.]

Southern California
Flashy ladies in SoCal love glamour, and it shows in the jewelry they regularly snap up. When you study the top three sellers, it’s also clear that the Rachel Zoe effect is still in play, with everyday items accented by long necklaces that evoke a modern boho feel.
[Top 3 sellers: Rolex watches, diamond necklaces, statement necklaces.]

The Pacific Northwest
The Real Real team described its shoppers in San Francisco and beyond as loving “subtle luxury,” and it’s easy to see why. An untrained eye might not notice anything special about the thin necklaces and bracelets they pull on, but fashionphiles will see little tweaks that make the outfit.
[Top 3 sellers: Saint Laurent necklaces, Hermès woven bracelets, Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklaces.]

The South
Residents of states like Texas tend to be traditionalists when it comes to accessorizing, snapping up classics that will fit just as well in jewelry boxes decades in the future. Instead of necklaces and earrings done in of-the-moment shades or accents (like neon gems or fringed suede), they’re all about classic diamonds.
[Top 3 sellers: diamond necklaces, David Yurman cable bracelets, Rolex watches.]

A Brief (Pun Intended) History of Lawyers in Movies, Part II

2015-05-06-1430953144-9680560-verdict1

Lawyers in motion pictures have been portrayed as one of two extremes, devils or angels, almost since celluloid was invented. The first film dealing specifically with a law firm and attorneys, 1933’s Counsellor at Law, starring John Barrymore, portrayed its J.D.s as upstanding citizens, as did the early Perry Mason films of the same period. This quickly changed, however, with many attorneys portrayed as being capable of the same brand of skullduggery as their shifty clients. With that in mind, we bring you a list of the good, the bad and the ugly of lawyers in movies. Enjoy, and please refrain from suing us if you feel otherwise…

1. Devil’s Advocate (1997)
Keanu Reeves plays Kevin Lomax, a hot-shot young Florida lawyer who is all about climbing the ladder. When he gets an offer he can’t refuse from a high-powered New York firm, led by the legendary John Milton (Al Pacino). Soon Kevin’s wife (Charlize Theron) is plagued by demonic visions and he realizes he’s literally sold his soul to the Devil Himself. Pacino has one of his greatest, scenery-chewing roles this clever hybrid of Rosemary’s Baby and The Firm. Although his character’s name should be an immediate giveaway for the literate viewer, Pacino’s John Milton delivers one of the great speeches in movie history about the notion of righteousness in the post-modern world.

2. 12 Angry Men (1957)
Sidney Lumet’s classic film from Reginald Rose’s script boasts an amazing star turn by Henry Fonda as the voice of reason in a sequestered jury room full of men anxious to wrap things up and go home, even if it means sending a teenage boy, accusing of stabbing his father to death, to the electric chair. A dream cast of character stars to be (Jack Warden, Jack Klugman, Robert Webber, Lee J. Cobb, E.G. Marshall, John Fiedler, Edward Binns, Joseph Sweeney, George Voskovec, Ed Begley, Martin Balsam) provide electric support to the dramatic proceedings. Although there are no lawyers present on-screen, the opposing counsels are constantly hovering in the heated debate.

3. Chicago (2002)
Richard Gere follows up his turn as a slick lawyer in Primal Fear (1994) with an even more flamboyant performance as uber-mouthpiece Billy Flynn, who has made a specialty of getting murderesses off of Death Row, the more glamourous the gal, the better. When the double golden geese of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly present themselves, Billy literally gives a song and dance for his girls that not only exonerates them in the eyes of the law, but makes them stars, as well. Gere’s performance and his beautifully-drawn character is the ultimate satirical slap in the face to officers of the court.

4. Presumed Innocent (1990)
Harrison Ford shines in one of his few morally ambiguous roles as Rusty Sabitch, a Deputy D.A. who finds himself a murder suspect when his former mistress (Greta Scacchi) is found bludgeoned to death. As Rusty scrambles to prove his innocence, the evidence against him mounts with alarming rapidity, making this both a cautionary tale and a frightening variation on Kafka’s The Trial. Based on Scott Turow’s best-selling novel, the film adapted by Oscar-winner Frank Pierson and director Alan J. Pakula, featuring fine support from Raul Julia, Bonnie Bedelia, Brian Dennehey, and John Spencer.

5. The Accused (1988)
Jodie Foster took home a Best Actress Oscar for her incendiary performance as a working class woman who is brutally gang-raped at a local tavern. When attorney Kelly McGillis takes the case, it becomes glaringly obvious how the legal system not only discriminates against victims of sex crimes, but against the wrong social class, as well. When McGillis decides to prosecute the men in the bar who didn’t participate in the crime itself, but cheered the perpetrators on, the film takes on uncharted territory, and becomes one of the greatest legal dramas ever made.

6. The Verdict (1982)
In a legendary career, this might contain Paul Newman’s finest performance. As Frank Galvin, a washed-up, alcoholic Boston attorney whose once promising career has collapsed into chasing ambulances, Newman is alternately riveting, repellent and heartbreaking. When a medical malpractice case comes Galvin’s way, the powers that be try to buy him and his clients off with a quick and easy settlement. Seeing a final chance at personal and professional redemption, Galvin takes the case to trial, facing off against a legendary fat cat attorney (the great James Mason), and a stack of odds that are decidedly against him. Jack Warden, Charlotte Rampling and Milo O’Shea are just a few of the fine actors offering excellent support in director Sidney Lumet’s masterpiece, penned by David Mamet from Barry Reed’s novel.

7. Primal Fear (1996)
A creative writing professor I had in college had a terrific analogy for stories about protagonists who think they’re in control during the duration of a story, only to have “a hammer come out of the sky and tap them on the head” in the end. This perfectly summarizes what happens to dapper, wealthy attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere), Chicago’s most high-profile mouthpiece, in director Gregory Hoblit’s 1996 hit. When the Archbishop of the city is brutally murdered by a disturbed young man (Edward Norton, in his star-making debut) Martin eagerly takes on his defense, knowing he’ll have an open and shut case with an insanity plea. Oh Marty, you have no clue. Fine support from Laura Linney, John Mahoney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand and Steven Bauer.

8. A Few Good Men (1992)
Writer Aaron Sorkin had his first bona fide hit with this Broadway smash, which he later adapted for director Rob Reiner to bring to the screen. Tom Cruise plays Daniel Kaffee, a navy JAG corps attorney who has never seen the inside of a courtroom. When he assigned the case of offending two Marines accused of killing one of their comrades, the young men claim they did it under orders from legendary marine Col. Nathan R. Jessup (Jack Nicholson, in one of his most iconic roles). One of the best courtroom dramas ever committed to film, Cruise’s character goes from being callow and indifferent to a full-blown crusader by the film’s now-legendary climax (“You can’t handle the truth!”). Fine support from Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland and the late J.T. Walsh.

9. Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
The most controversial mainstream release of its era, Otto Preminger’s courtroom drama stars Jimmy Stewart as a small town lawyer who finds his defense for client Lt. Frederick Manion (Ben Gazzara) becoming increasingly complicated. Accused of murdering a local bartender who he claims raped and beat up his wife Laura (Lee Remick), Stewart soon finds out that Laura has a reputation for promiscuity and Lt. Manion a notoriously violent temper. Wendell Mayes’ screenplay, based on John Voelker’s novel, contained frank dialogue for the late ’50s, such as “bitch”, “contraceptive”, “panties”, “penetration”, “rape”, “slut” and “sperm.” In fact, Stewart’s real-life father was so appalled that his son had appeared in such filth, he took out a full-page ad in his local paper, urging people not to see it! While quite tame by today’s standards, the film still boasts fine performances by an expert cast, and Stewart’s masterful portrayal of a seemingly mild-mannered fellow whose determination won’t be swayed once he’s made up his mind.

10. Better Call Saul (2015)
Okay, so it’s a TV series, not a movie, but it’s a TV series that’s better than 98% of the mainstream releases that are currently filling the multiplexes, so here it joins this auspicious list. Bob Odenkirk is a revelation, reprising his role from the iconic Breaking Bad as shifty lawyer Saul Goodman, featured here in a prequel to BB, tracing Saul’s evolution from small-time Cicero, IL. con artist Jimmy McGill, to the kind of attorney whose name and likeness adorns matchbook covers and bus stop benches. As much a dissection (and indictment) of the American Dream as Breaking Bad was, with a character who is sometimes pathetic, often unintentionally comical, but utterly human in the end: an everyman for the 21st century who is more like most of us really are, as opposed to whom we’d like to be. Michael McKean is Odenkirk’s equal, playing his long-suffering, successful older brother, a legendary Albuquerque lawyer who suffers from a host of psychological maladies, as is veteran actor Jonathan Banks, as ex-cop turned dirty tricks-for-hire covert op Mike Ehrmantraut.

June expected a night filled with passionate love-making once back at Holly’s place. But the cold reception after their wonderful evening leaves her a little more than confused. Determined not to become one of Holly’s conquests, June sets out to steel her will against Holly’s games, until she learns that the only one begin played is her. Unable to measure up to June’s fiery desire, Holly tries to make things up to June but soon finds that she is not the only person occupying June’s time. This is the seventh part of the “Awakenings” series by lesbian erotica author, Lillian Bendover, and is 11,200 words long. Warning: Explicit Butch/Femme sex EXCERPT: “Where are my manners? My name is Avery.” She reached her hand out deftly, stroking the back of June’s own softly, then kissed it tenderly. Her eyes deep, clear and smoldering met June’s gaze with desire. June licked her lips and bit the bottom one in an effort to stop the orgasm that threatened to undo her. She giggled nervously, “My name is June.” Avery ran her finger along June’s jawline, watching as her eye lids began to lower half mast. “How fitting.” “Thank you.” June managed, rousing herself from Avery’s machisma. June sized up Avery from her short faded haircut down to her immaculately polished black shoes and felt drawn in. Who was this woman and what kind of woodoo voodoo did she lay on her? Those few brief moments with Avery’s strong attentions left June feeling heady and she loved it! She found herself imagining doing dirty things to and with this woman she had just met. Maybe it was the drink, she thought, the new-to-her place, the dress, anything but the fact that this Avery woman could make her feel like she was feeling – hot, bothered and ready to go.

Intelligent Robotics and Applications: Part I

Intelligent Robotics and Applications: Part I

The market demand for skills, knowledge and adaptability have positioned robotics to be an important field in both engineering and science. One of the most highly visible applications of robotics has been the robotic automation of many industrial tasks in factories. In the future, a new era will come in which we will see a greater success for robotics in non-industrial environments. In order to anticipate a wider deployment of intelligent and autonomous robots for tasks such as manufacturing, healthcare, ent- tainment, search and rescue, surveillance, exploration, and security missions, it is essential to push the frontier of robotics into a new dimension, one in which motion and intelligence play equally important roles. The 2010 International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (ICIRA 2010) was held in Shanghai, China, November 10-12, 2010. The theme of the c- ference was “Robotics Harmonizing Life,” a theme that reflects the ever-growing interest in research, development and applications in the dynamic and exciting areas of intelligent robotics. These volumes of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Artificial Intel- gence and Lecture Notes in Computer Science contain 140 high-quality papers, which were selected at least for the papers in general sessions, with a 62% acceptance rate Traditionally, ICIRA 2010 holds a series of plenary talks, and we were fortunate to have two such keynote speakers who shared their expertise with us in diverse topic areas spanning the rang of intelligent robotics and application activities.

Dusting off the Wurlitzers: The Theatre Organ Scene in Indianapolis, Part I

Virtually anyone who grew up in Indianapolis in the 1980s has at least a vague recollection of the Paramount Music Palace, even if it was only through their tuneful commercial on early morning local news. For those of us who experienced it firsthand, I’m willing to venture those memories remain crystal clear, two decades after the establishment closed. I don’t imagine I visited the Music Palace more than a half dozen times (probably less), but I can remember the snakelike lines for both ordering the pizza and entering the Palace, while a potpourri of tone colors reverberated their way out the front door.

When I was older, I reflected on the PMP and how, because it was such a smoothly put-together concept (and, yes, a bit of a gimmick), it must have been a chain. But it wasn’t. It was an Indy original. And the 42-rank Wurlitzer (originally from the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California had such a lasting influence on young people who grew up with it that it elevated Indy to one of the county’s leading cities for perpetuating the culture of the beloved but often neglected theatre organ — the pop-culture counterpart to pipe organs’ highbrow, ecclesiastical bent. These vintage instruments aren’t generally that easy to find, but a small cadre of devotees are doing their most to ensure they don’t pass into oblivion. And Indy has its fair share.

“There is rarely a time when I play pre-show… inevitably whenever it’s a pretty decent-sized crowd, someone will come up to me and talk to me about, ‘oh, is that the organ from Paramount Music Palace?'” Justin Stahl told me while sitting at a theater organ at the Warren Performing Arts Center, on the east side of the city, where he performs and practices regularly. “It’s got almost a cult following in the depths of the city’s history.” Like many other Indianapolis-based theatre organists — and the city has spun out a remarkable array of talent for its modest size — Stahl saw the Palace, which operated from 1978 to 1995, just a few miles away from Warren High School, as an inspiration for developing his craft at the instrument.

2014-12-29-DSCF1693.JPG

Organist Justin Stahl performs at the theater organ (from the Barton Company) at the Warren Performing Arts Center, part of the eastside high school’s auditorium.

In fact, the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) is among the most vibrant in the country, using its strong network to attract national conferences to the city, where both local and non-local talent test their mettle on various instruments across town. Mark Herman, who based his variegated creative talents in Indianapolis until recently (and now lives in Pasadena, California) agreed with Stahl’s assessment: “The Paramount Music Palace… helped the ATOS chapter here grow… We still present usually about four concerts each year,” he observed. “The group has installed several organs, all of which are extremely fine installations.” Herman attests that the Paramount Music Palace was one of the best “at putting the general public and the theatre organ in contact with one another.”

It has been an uphill battle for the small but close-knit community of theatre organ aficionados, a coterie that includes performers, collectors and hobbyists, all unified most powerfully through the ATOS. Indianapolis enjoys a particularly prominent dot on the map because of localized efforts to restore and preserve particular theatre organs, where Anderson native Carlton Smith is one of just a few in the nation who has devoted his life to the craft. Tucked away in the Stutz building, Carlton Smith Pipe Organ Restorations features, at any given time, a half-dozen instruments in various stages of completion, with several more in storage awaiting his deft touch. It would be easy to say he saves them from their demise, but in many cases they’re already dead. Smith resuscitates them, sometimes for old picture palaces that have enjoyed a concurrent renewal, but often in private residences.

2014-12-29-DSCF1685.JPG

A Barton theatre organ in the later stages of restoration at Carlton Smith’s offices in the Stutz Building.

“A sizable theatre organ — 13 ranks and up — will take us two to three years to restore,” Smith observed. “Of course, we still have smaller jobs, just components that someone might send us to rebuild. I primarily started my recognition in the theatre organ world by restoration of consoles [the apparatus at which the organist sits and operates to make the sounds]… sometimes we electrify them now instead of rebuilding the wind action.” Smith noted that he and his small team have to accommodate what the auditoriums want, and his fine arts background makes him widely sought after by purists because of his strong attention to restoration of the ornamentation on the instrument.

Smith is among many who recognize that ATOS largely emerged when the future of the instrument was seriously threatened. Tim Needler, chair of the Central Indiana chapter of the ATOS and an accomplished organist himself (though rarely before the public), recognized that they fell into neglect by the dawn of World War II, then shortly thereafter were scrapped. “Most theatre organs were either left in the theatres or junked when air conditioning came in because those chambers became a great place to put the equipment. Then, of course, the Second World War… there’s materials there for the war effort,” Needler recalled. The others fell into desuetude, so that today, according to Needler, “There’s probably fewer than a thousand. When you figure that every town had a theater of some sort, and almost every theater had an organ, so there were thousands and thousands.” Even a city like Indianapolis — not very big in 1930 — probably had close to 100 theater organs.

But their reign was remarkably short. Big names like Barton, Möller, Kimball and of course Wurlitzer innovated like gangbusters to enhance the silent film experience. “1926 to ’28, I would say, were the boom years,” Carlton Smith told me. “The boom years for the musicians, too. In a big theater, at a local level, they were rockstars. They had cult followings. Fans wrote them letters. The girls swooned over the guys.” But Al Jolson’s The Jazz Singer (1927) kicked off the era of the talkies — a technological advancement that soon became the status quo for movies and rendered the theater organ a dowdy curiosity.

The second half of this article will explore how different local theatre organists are seeking new methods of keeping the instrument relevant. All photos taken by the author.

A look inside: John had reluctantly worn the outfit Ella laid out for him. It wasn’t horrible, but his style was entirely different. He felt like a tourist in the Hawaiian style shirt and shorts she put him in, but if it would make her happy, he would do it. To be fair, they were headed to the beach, but he still would have felt more comfortable in his own choices. Ella rolled out a large blanket for the two of them. The sand was hot, sifting between their toes with each step, and yet felt soft due to the fine grains. Annoyed with her shoulder straps twisting, Ella removed them, tossing them to the side. Her top took on the appearance of a simple band of fabric wrapped around her chest, joined in the center by a metal ring. The bottoms had a trail of smaller metal rings at the sides.”Could you put the sunscreen on my back? I can’t reach.” Ella demonstrated by bending her arms behind, struggling to reach the middle of her back. Wrapping her hair around her hand, she held it up out of his way. John squirted some out, vigorously rubbing it into her skin, watching it shift from white to clear as it spread. He started at her shoulders, but as he moved down her back, the sun glistening off her skin, he slowed. His palms rubbed in slow circles as he lost himself in a daydream, picturing her slipping the bottom down, her ass popping out as the bikini bottom rounded beneath it.”John?” He snapped back to reality, the bottle of lotion in his hand upside down, dripping out onto the blanket. “Are you done yet? I’d really like to let go of my hair now.”Sorry. Yeah, you’re all set. I just got a little lost in my own mind. How come you got to wear the sexy swimsuit, while I got stuck with the tourist trap horror show?”I didn’t think it would matter too much what you wear.” Ella made sure to arm her shield, or so she liked to call it. She could sense a plan brewing in his head. John didn’t like the fact that she thought it was funny. If he couldn’t wear something suitable, then he fel

The First Reviews Of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ Have Arrived

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” isn’t out in U.S. theaters until Nov. 21, but the film had its world premiere in London on Monday night and first reviews soon followed. The consensus? Mixed, with many critics citing Lionsgate’s decision to split Suzanne Collins’ source novel into two parts as a demerit. “Like an overgrown and bloated trailer for a film yet to come, Francis Lawrence’s ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ spreads perhaps 45 minutes of dramatic material across two far-too-leisurely hours,” wrote Todd McCarthy for The Hollywood Reporter. If sick burns aren’t your speed, there are other opinions about the film below.

1. “‘Harry Potter’ started it, and now it’s bedevilling ‘The Hunger Games’ too. But the trend for dividing in two the last film of a series (see also ‘The Twilight Saga’) has less to do with story-tellers indulging our appetite for delayed gratification and more to do with executives enriching themselves.” — Brian Viner, The Daily Mail

2. “A film with the full title of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ may sound too self-consciously like a franchise building block to be best in series so far. And yet it is. […] Francis Lawrence, his actors and crew have given us a blockbuster that uses all its wit and wile to fly on the wings of what makes us human.” — Sophie Monks Kaufman, Little White Lies

3. “Katniss arms up … against anyone expecting diminishing returns from a four-part trilogy. With measure and muscle, Lawrences Jennifer and Francis nail the job of selling the long, twisting road towards revolution.” — Kevin Harley, Total Film

4. “Unsubtly resonant, at times quite rousing and somewhat unsatisfying by design, this penultimate series entry is a tale of mass uprising and media manipulation that itself evinces no hint of a rebellious streak or subversive spirit: Suzanne Collins’ novels may have warned against the dangers of giving the masses exactly what they want to see, but at this point, the forces behind this hugely commercial property are not about to risk doing anything but.” — Justin Chang, Variety

5. “It may disappoint young fans who relished the sheer fantasy verve that drove the first parts, but as a thoughtful and at times moving preamble to a tough climax, ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ delivers.” — Mark Adams, ScreenDaily

6. “This is basically the third time that we’ve seen the whole ‘split the final book into two movies’ gimmick, and this is frankly the first time I believe said choice has done the material an artistic disservice. […] The acting is solid and there are interesting moments and beats throughout, but the film sadly feels like the first part of a two-part television series finale, with all of the proverbial ‘good stuff’ held in reserve for the theoretical final showdown.” — Scott Mendelson, Forbes

7. “‘Mockingjay – Part 1’ is still very much a ‘Hunger Games’ movie, yes, but it calls to mind smart political comedies like ‘Wag the Dog’ and ‘Tanner ’88’ as well.” — Alonso Duralde, TheWrap

8. “‘Mockingjay – Part 1’ is all queue, no roller-coaster. The third of four films in the successful and admirable ‘Hunger Games’ series is any number of good things: intense, stylish, topical, well-acted. But the one thing it could never be called is satisfying.” — Robbie Collin, The Daily Mail

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Natalie Dormer and Donald Sutherland.

Mom Captures A Special Part Of Childhood In ‘Comfort Objects’ Photo Series

As a mom of three, photographer Anna Ream is no stranger to the concept of “comfort objects” — the blankets, stuffed animals, dolls and other items that children latch on to for emotional release and support.

In the fall of 2012, she decided to make those very comfort objects the subject of a stunning photo series of the same name. “I was pondering objects representative of childhood and wanted to focus a body of work on the 2-to-6-year-old age range,” she told The Huffington Post in an email, adding, “It is one of my favorite developmental stages because children are becoming more independent, their language skills are developing rapidly and they are becoming more aware of the world around them.”

To date, Ream has photographed over 70 children with their comfort objects. She started with her own kids and family, as well as children from their preschool. From there, the project snowballed as she photographed other children through community connections and even reached out to strangers.

“Childhood comfort objects seem to me like a very real and authentic example of how tangible things can provide emotional comfort,” the photographer said.

Ream’s children are 13, 8, and 3 years old, and they have all had comfort objects at some point in their lives. When Ream began the project, her middle child Eowyn had decided she was too old for her stuffed dog named Ginger. Eowyn handed the dog down to her younger brother, but a few months later, she found herself crying in the middle of a difficult day. “I need Ginger,” she told her mom.

“For me, this story illustrates both the intense emotional connection children have with their object, but also how the object is a part of what gets left behind in the process of normal childhood development,” Ream said. “As a parent, there is some sadness and loss associated with those transitions.”

Pedro Pascal Really Wishes He Were Still On ‘Game Of Thrones,’ Even In Small Part

Pedro Pascal isn’t that different from most “Game of Thrones” viewers — he wishes his character, the charismatic Oberyn Martell, was still on the HBO show.

Pascal was at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24, to launch a new “Game of Thrones” beer from Brewery Ommegang. After a packed audience watched Pascal tap the first keg of the amber-brown Valar Morghulis beer, the actor talked to HuffPost TV about missing his “Game of Thrones” role, and dealing with people who want to squeeze his head.

HuffPost TV: How many of the people who walk up to you and want to say hello also want to squeeze your head?

Pedro Pascal: Like, they want to puncture my eyeballs? A lot of them. I would say more than half of the people who want to get a picture. I always feel a little guilty when I say, “How about I just smile?” Because I don’t want to have to re-create the moment over and over again.

Yeah, that’s a little troubling. You don’t want to have to go to that place again and again.

Yeah, I don’t want to have to re-live the trauma.

Would you rather still be on “Game of Thrones,” or would you rather have the impact that you had, as the character and the way he left?

I think that ultimately, selfishly, I would want to still be on “Game of Thrones,” only because they are the greatest people I’ve ever worked with. Ninety percent of the work is taken care of by the writing — more than that. Ninety-nine percent is taken care of by writing that is that good, and that’s not something that I’m used to. On top of that, it’s the best crew, the best design team and the greatest cast I’ve ever worked with. I had such a good time, and I’ve never been so challenged. Even if my part would shrink to a fraction of what it was, to get to be there and be around everybody and hang out, it’s probably what I would opt for.

I think I’m just going to guilt [executive producers] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss]. I’m just going to describe my depression to the point that they’re like, “All right! Ellaria is going to have a dream!” [laughs]

Is it your favorite role?

It’s the best role I’ve ever played on screen, without question.

You said it was challenging — what was the biggest challenge of playing Oberyn Martell?

I would say that the character had a confidence that was really important to portray. Any human being would have trouble feeling that level of confidence — a dangerous sort of confidence, you know? He sort of owns his overconfidence — with major consequences, as you could see. And then physically, it was a very challenging role.

Also, I was very aware of the series, as millions are. I was a big fan of the show, and it was the first time I was ever asked to be part of something I was so hyperaware of as an audience member. So there was a lot to battle internally there. But David and Dan made it so easy.

Even though you were aware of the show, were you prepared for the fandom and events like this and how the fans have been to you?

I think the best thing to do is to play stupid. [laughs] It’s all so exciting and you always want to be careful with your expectations and whether they’re negative or positive. So I just sort of played dumb and had a job to do, which was so easy to do — they loved the character so much, and that was on my side from the beginning. The writers and the directors, they loved on the character so hard. So there was that easy focus, and then it was not up to me in terms of how it would be received.

New Beginnings – Part II (Book 18 of “The Hazard Chronicles – Taboo Desires”)

Adam needed sex so bad that he was going absolutely crazy. But Brenna was about to have her first baby, so they’d had to stop having sex weeks ago. And after the baby was born, it would be another two whole months before they could start up again. But Brenna had other ideas. She wanted sex one last time before she went into labor. She wanted it now. And she wasn’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer!~ ~ ~ ~ ~“If I cum inside you, the hormones in my sperm could make you start labor early.” He’d told her that before, but he didn’t think she’d really believed it. “And I’d hurt you.” That was something he wasn’t willing to risk. “The baby’s dropped so much in the last few days that you don’t have room down there anymore.”“I don’t care.” Her eyes began to glitter with frustration. “I’ve been going crazy these last six weeks, and you have, too! You know it’s true!” Her gaze dropped to his worn slacks, which were jutting up in a huge hard-on tent just below his belt. “You’re horny right now! Why won’t you make love to me?”He was tempted…oh, how he was tempted! But he’d been so horny for so long that he wasn’t sure whether he could be gentle. And right now, when she was so close to delivering, he didn’t dare be anything but gentle!“At least touch me,” she sighed, and helplessly closed her eyes. “And I’ll give you a blowjob. That way we can both feel good. Please, Adam?”Why hadn’t he ever thought of that before? Impending fatherhood was definitely messing up his thinking.“Okay. That I can do. But if anything hurts you, I want you to tell me right away.”Excitement began to ripple through Brenna’s swollen body. “You won’t. You never do, even when we do it hard and fast.”He wanted to do it hard and fast right now! But he wasn’t going to risk anything that could harm Brenna and his unborn daughter.Swiftly he stripped his clothes off, and tossed them aside. Brenna was naked under the single sheet. He slid it away, then simply stared at her.Her nipples were already wet as milky flui

This Is The Kind Of BS That Women In Television Have To Deal With, Part 2

Former CNN anchor Kiran Chetry and PBS’ Judy Woodruff spoke out on Sunday’s “Reliable Sources” about the way women in television are scrutinized over their appearance.

The discussion came after recent reports that executives at Britain’s ITV have criticized host Susanna Reid over her dresses, hair and nodding in an attempt to boost ratings. On Sunday, Chetry seemed to be able to relate to the story as she listed some of the feedback she’s received about her looks during her career in television. The former anchor, who previously worked in local news and for Fox News and CNN, said she has been told to:

— buy a wig

— don’t wear bare arms

— don’t wear taupe

— dye your hair blond

— wear shorter skirts

— wear longer skirts

— get Botox

Chetry said that she has “laughed” and taken the advice with a grain of salt over the years, while Woodruff added that getting the news out and focusing on the content of stories should be a journalist’s first priority.

“I think women have to take a deep breath and think, ‘What am I doing here? Am I here to be a reporter, to gather the news, to make sure it gets out and do the best job I can?'” she said. “If that’s what you’re trying to do, that’s what ultimately is going to matter.”

Hitting A Walk-Off Homer Was The 2nd Best Part Of Minor Leaguer’s Day

Hitting a walk-off home run for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate) was just the beginning of third baseman Andy Burns’ memorable day. Shortly after the game-winning homer on Sunday, Burns took his girlfriend to a beach 45 minutes away from the stadium and proposed.

She said yes, of course.

“Once I hit home plate, one of my buddies said, ‘Now you’ve got to go propose.’ That’s 100 times bigger than any game could ever be,” Burns said, via MiLB.com.

Lights Go on Part XVIII: Allow

How many opportunities have I passed up because I did not allow my self to act upon clear instincts and give attention to what was being presented to me, especially when it felt like a good choice.

It is my belief that instincts come to us in the form of feeling. They are not empirical, they offer no proof. How could they, because instincts deliver possibility.

I believe our instincts are limitless.

Once we actually know something, by proving it through testing, or example or repetition, it becomes knowledge.

It is my belief that knowledge is limited.

Now, I am a fan of knowledge, and it is a prime focus for me to obtain worthwhile knowledge on a daily basis.

Case in point.

I have just finished the first draft of my next book, which is nonfiction and yet closely related to my novel, “Anything Is Possible.” The title of my new book is: “What You Want Wants You” and it explores this immeasurable instinctual knowledge base that is available to all of us.

Through the exercise of writing “Anything Is Possible” Many tenets that I had absorbed from the sage wisdom of my father bubbled up in cogent form. These principles became the basis of “What You Want Wants You”.

This book takes a keen look at and closely deals with a precious phenomenon that every human being possesses. And what is amazing to me is that only we human beings possess it at this high level.

It is called: Free Will.

It was during the writing of AIP that I discovered for myself that Free Will is a great determiner in the success that I have experienced as a human being.

To my mind it is truly the greatest gift of mankind.

Why?

We humans have a choice.

A cognizant choice.

A conscious choice.

We can say yes or no.

I used to think that animals such as lions had a choice, because they would go for the most desirable portion of a kill for themselves. Later on in my development, it became clear to me that a choice of this type was not conscious. It was a reactionary choice, built into them through eons of development at the molecular level.

So we humans possess this thing called ‘Conscious’ choice.

Yay! I think…

Because I find that our subconscious, this wonderland of the unknown that hints and suggests to us on a consistent basis, is easily dominated by our conscious minds.

Our conscious mind knows.

Our unconscious mind suggests.

It is my belief that what our conscious mind knows is only what we have decided, by our own Free Will, to accept as knowledge.
I believe that history will bear me out this. Throughout time immemorial, virtually any level of belief that we once held as truth, was accepted as such because the facts that supported that belief were what we knew and understood consciously at that time.

Yeah, I know, I’m in the deep end of the philosophical pool here.

Don’t blame me! I’m simply following my instincts:)

So, I’d like to dwell for a moment on the opportunity side of possibility that is governed by our Free Will. I began this newsletter by admonishing my self for opportunities passed upon because I consciously ignored my instincts.

Here is an unfortunate tale that supports that statement.

In the mid 90’s I had provided creative services to a start up company that was eventually sold to Microsoft. I had invested in the company shortly before it was sold to Microsoft and ended up riding that incredible money pony that saw my investment multiply by a factor of twenty. It kept on multiplying right into the crash that hit on April 4, 2000, when the Judicial Department declared Microsoft a monopoly.

The stock price was cut in half.

So here are the facts.

I was very busy producing a large show around the time of the crash. Two days before the stock took a huge fall, as I was going over my production schedule I was interrupted by an intruder.

It was my instinct.

And it told me to sell all of my Microsoft stock.

Did I follow this instinct?

This was my bad.

First of all, my Microsoft stock was much too high a percentage of my portfolio. Yet, even my high powered financial friends, one of whom owned his own nationally admired brokerage, suggested that the imbalance in my portfolio was okay because Microsoft was so strong by every measure. If I sold it, what was I going to buy that would even come close to the performance of my Microsoft stock?

So, when my instinct advised me to sell, I did not allow it. I fell back on my conscious knowledge backed by some pretty amazing brain trusts that belied my instinct. Within a day, my net worth was cut in half.

Now, this may be my most extreme example in regard to the consequences of not following that ‘voice’ inside of us that falls prey to our conscious mind. I can also site dozens of instances in which I followed my instincts and was richly rewarded.

A prime example is when I invested in that start up company in the first place. All my pundits, including my wife, thought I was crazy.

I believed in that instinct and acted upon it.

So, what have I learned from all of this?

Call me crazy, but I now listen with great admiration as well as a keen ear to the messages being delivered by my instincts. In fact, I will go so far as to say that I believe that they are messengers of the universe that are truly attempting to reach our consciousness if we grant them permission.

Free Will.

When I allow my instincts to deliver their message and when I act upon those messages, good things happen. It is when I have not allowed my instinctual wisdom to pass by the gatekeeper of my conscious mind that I have suffered most.

I know you have had similar experiences too.

I want to hear your thoughts on this.

Beyonce’s ‘Self-Titled’ Part 3 Looks At The Making Of ‘Drunk In Love’

Even Beyonce has a Christmas gift for us. The singer released the third behind-the-scenes look at the making of her self-titled surprise album on Wednesday while you were stuffing yourself with turkey and new toys. In the five-minute video, titled “Run ‘N Gun,” Beyonce zeros in on the Jay Z collaboration “Drunk in Love” before touching on the filming of “No Angel,” “Yoncé” and “XO” — which she reveals were among 80 songs recorded for the new album. Along the way, the singer talks about “trying to rebel against perfection” by not planning out every aspect of the accompanying music videos. The Miami Art Fairs, Part 2

They’re are several personal ‘museums’ created by private collectors in Miami. My first stop today was at the Rubell Family Collection. After seeing various exhibitions there over the years I’ve grown impressed with their vision, pursuit of new territory and advocacy fora broad array of artists on the rise. This year they are presenting their significant acquisitions of Chinese art.

I visited Miami’s brilliant, new Perez Museum, which gives the city a powerful world class museum, passionately designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The viewing experience is sublime with a retrospective of Ai Weiwei and an insightful, inclusive Latin embracing exhibition of “Americana.” I’m tired of cookie-cutter museums with their checklists of requisite art and no sense of what city your in. Not here. This is an international, American museum; personal and relevant.

And with that, it was off to the art fairs with a visit to the Miami Project, with good light, wide aisles and friendly galleries. Many of the galleries today were doing a lot of business after being slow yesterday while the Miami Basel show opened with their high-priced art. Lots of collectors were relieved to find art within their price range at the satellite fairs, which is not to say it was inexpensive.

It was a short walk to Art Miami, which has been around longer. With more galleries, narrower aisles and larger crowds, there were some galleries that I thought were clunkers, showing art that bordered a kitsch, yet there was still a lot of quality.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Results: Bill Engvall Eliminated In Part 1 Of The Finals

After far too many weeks, according to “Dancing With the Stars” enthusiasts, Bill Engvall finally danced his last dance. The comedian outlasted many celebrities who outscored him on the dance floor week after week, making it into the first part of the two-night season finale. He fell just short of the finish line, though.

Once again, Engvall had the lowest scores on the night with 51, but this time they would prove his undoing. Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke scored 57, so they’re going to have to step it up. The other competitors on Tuesday night’s special episode are Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, and Amber Riley and Derek Hough.

Engvall was gracious in his departure, saying, “It just goes to prove to me, there is a God! Because I don’t think I could make one more dance.” He had nothing but praise for his partner Emma Slater, saying she’s like a second daughter to him.

E! Online’s Leanne Aguilera thinks America got it right. “Wiggling and disco dancing around the floor is not the same as ballroom dancing,” she wrote. But HitFix’s Liane Bonin Starr agreed. “I can’t be too sad about this, only because many more talented dancers were sent home while Bill was flopping and stomping around each week. He was great fun, such a joy, but it’s time to get serious.”

Catch the “Dancing with the Stars” finale on a special night, Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
