Shayne Oliver Presents Capsule Collection with Colmar

On the eve of Milan Fashion Week, performance apparel company Colmar unveiled its collaboration with American designer Shayne Oliver with a party filled with fake snow, held Tuesday night at the Arco Della Pace venue here.
The collaboration between Oliver and Colmar falls under the sportswear company’s A.G.E. project, which stands for Advanced Garment Exploration. The company plans to conscript designers and other creative types to give its heritage with a contemporary take.
Oliver’s capsule collection comprises three different drops. While the first delivery — priced at between 500 euros and 2,200 euros — is already available at six locations worldwide including Browns in London, I.T. in Hong Kong, New York’s Totokaelo, Gr8 in Tokyo, Milan’s Excelsior and online at Ssense, the second drop is slated to hit retail in December. Colmar chief executive officer Giulio Colombo said a third capsule is expected for fall 2019.
“I do like to be subversive, … I do think that people are spending a lot of money on really basic, normal clothes and I wanted to add a bit of design,” said Oliver. And so he did, giving Colmar’s signature outerwear pieces exaggerated proportions, at times layering them or transforming them into capes and trimmed with

Zac Posen Presents Spring — With a Little Help From Friends

Like lots of designers, Zac Posen wears many hats. In fact, he says it shakes out to 16 collections a year. He designs for Brooks Brothers; recently updated the uniforms at Delta Air Lines; released a cookbook; judges on “Project Runway,” and released a documentary. But it was his namesake label that started it all.
To present that collection for spring 2019, Posen is once again forgoing a traditional runway show — something he has done for several seasons — in favor of images and a film. The difference this season is that the film has a more narrative- and character-driven feeling. Gia Coppola shot the piece, with Maya Hawke as muse. To Posen, Hawke was more than just a subject — both she and Coppola are close personal friends, and Hawke, who was looped in and confirmed while he was still designing the collection, helped to influence his designs for the season. So spring 2019 was a family affair.
“The original Zac girl is a creative free spirit. When I think of my early muses, this collection has almost come full circle to that idea. It’s not grande dame, or overt glamour, there is a new side to it,” he says

Gwyneth Paltrow Presents Newest Crop of ‘Trend-Proof’ Goop Label Pieces in NYC

While Gwyneth Paltrow is a year into designing clothes for her brand, Goop Label, she maintains that the mix of chunky cashmere sweaters, pique blouses and tweed shift dresses isn’t at all fashion.
“It’s really the opposite of fashion,” said Paltrow at her first preview of the line in New York on Thursday. “We’re not trying to move the needle.”
Wearing a navy velvet pantsuit of her own design and white sneakers, Paltrow walked WWD through the newest pieces, which start at $ 195 and go up to $ 1,395. New looks include dark-rinse wide-leg jeans, a cargo parka with a fake fur hood and a camel coat made from Loro Piana cashmere.
“Everything we make at Goop comes out of a white space; it’s like that with our skin care,” said Paltrow. “I love designer fashion, I’m a fan, but it’s so incredibly expensive. My point was, is there an under $ 600 version of that blazer that’s made in the same factory in Italy? It turns out, yeah. The idea of it is, how do you respect the modern woman and make beautiful designer clothing that’s trend-proof?”
From Paltrow’s “white space” came a black silk mock turtleneck jumpsuit that would be a no-brainer for an office holiday party,

Alexa Chung Presents ‘Prom Gone Wrong’

PARIS — Fog machines, a live band playing cheesy Eighties hits against a gold metallic fringe curtain marked with “Class of 2017,” with one wonky S hanging down. A bunch of kids slow dancing surrounded by knocked-over chairs, an explosion of glitter and confetti, and pastel party balloons stuck to the ceiling.
That was the setting for the Paris launch of the second collection of Alexa Chung’s signature line, dubbed Prom Gone Wrong, held in the hall of the Jacques-Decour high school during Paris Fashion Week.
See all the looks from Alexa Chung’s see-now, buy-now fall 2017 collection here >>
Channeling “Molly Ringwald and Eighties teen flick utopia meets a Tatleresque Liz Hurley when she was younger,” highlights from the young-at-heart see-now-buy-now line, which is already on sale, include a black velvet jacquard suit, fun slogan T-shirts, tailored shirts, oversized trench coats — and Chung’s favorite piece: the “Dorothy” ruffled gingham dress.
Here Chung, whose own look for the night was a black satin bustier dress and chunky pearl choker, talks to WWD about her career path and inspirations.

Louis Vuitton Presents New Time Capsule Exhibition in Berlin

TRUNK SHOW: Consider it a mini pochette of “Volez, Vogues, Voyagez.” On Thursday night, Louis Vuitton opened Time Capsule Berlin, a condensed version of the more sweeping exhibition of the Maison’s historic roots and iconic products which debuted in Paris in 2015 before traveling to Tokyo and Seoul and, in a few weeks, New York.
Vuitton’s Berlin showcase is housed at the French Palais on Unter den Linden, which was built for the international sleeping car company Wagons-Lits in 1906, and later served as the French Embassy in the German Democratic Republic.  Open to the public free of charge through October 8, Time Capsule is both artisanal and high tech, commencing with a live display of a Vuitton craftsperson at work on mini trunk bags before visitors embark on a still-life and multi-media time-line journey through the house’s history.
Vuitton has been active in Germany for four decades, and currently operates nine stores there. In a special nod to its German links, Time Capsule Berlin includes a weekender and business case of Damier carbon canvas designed to fit the spaces of the BMW i8, as well as a boxing trunk (including punching bag) in collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld as part of the

Irfé Presents New Direction

WINDS OF CHANGE: Irfé teased its new direction during Paris couture week by presenting a line chockablock with embroidery and fur.
“This collection is mainly for image, mainly [to show] the style using the codes of the house,” explained a company spokeswoman, who added none of the pieces on display was for retail. “They wanted to show the house’s know-how.”
Since discontinuing its ready-to-wear line, Irfé has undergone a series of modifications. There’s a new company management and studio team in place working with designer Olga Sorokina. However, the spokeswoman would not divulge names.
“The structure has changed,” she confirmed. “There is a new direction — everything is new.”
Meanwhile, the label’s clothes were shown in Irfé’s Paris showroom of three months, on Rue Vivienne.
The label’s collection took a cue from images of ballet dresses photographed by former dancer Vladimir Glynin.
“It’s only couture for now, but next time it is only going to be prêt-à-porter with a small couture collection,” said the spokeswoman. She added Irfé is hoping to take the presentation on the road — maybe to two or three key retailers.

“Post Mortem Presents: A Very Victorian Christmas,” Post Mortem Movement Theatre, Long Beach CA

The party prelude hooks you. There’s a Door Girl (Danielle Kaufman), a vampy pre-Henry Higgins Eliza Doolittle. A long, dark passageway – wait, is this Halloween? Rooms (so many possibilities but, alas, locked) off to the side. You emerge from this dim lit vaguely Christmassy birth canal and – gasp! – light. Crowd noise, music, a bar – red and green potent potables for one, please. A vampire, burlesque girls, a ghost, a clown and other dignitaries of darkness and noir hold court. A Host (Beth Pennington) calls the assembly to order and, like steel filings that hurl themselves at a redheaded magnet, it begins.

“Post Mortem Presents: A Very Victorian Christmas” is a staggering (in more ways than one) achievement. It gifts you the perfect antidote for the Whitman Sampler of bah, humbug Noel platitudes.

Conceived, directed and choreographed by Andrea Luna and Angela Lopez, it’s a riot of song, a rhapsody of dance and movement. In short, it’s a scream. It recovers and re-enacts the delightfully sinister Victorian winter solstice tradition. The shortest day of the year, an abundance of darkness, and that membrane that separates the undead and us dissolves.

What better occasion, then, for a couple of horror stories. ‘Tis the season, after all.

2014-12-20-vic3.jpg

Both stories concern ghosts. Each occasion dance numbers that build drama, enhance rhythm. One is frightful and ends happy ever, ever, after. The other is funny and ends tragic. Both run the gamut of the difference between one’s joyous expectations of the holidays and their grim reality. They are spooky, articulated nicely in that patent pending Post Mortem style of rave war paint, skulking movement, woeful facial expressions and gestures that, were one inclined towards physics, could be described as Heisenberg uncertain.

One concerns the woeful tale of Grimwald (Kyle Johnston) the sad clown. The other concerns a scaredy cat Santa Claus (Jeffrey Kieviet). Both are enchanting to watch, better yet, to share, as the stage is a few feet from the audience. The drama is as psychological as it is physical though it’s the physical bits, of course, we notice first. The humor, on the other hand, is Keystone Cops physical.

2014-12-20-vic2.jpg

No spoiler alert is necessary because this production was a one timer. Grimwald, a compelling combination of Heath Ledger’s Joker and Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp, becomes a successful entertainer. He becomes so successful that he hires a Jester (Alexis Udo-Udoma). The Jester – boo! Hiss! – steals the act. Talk about tit for tat sectarian violence. Grimwald kills the Jester, the Jester, undead but lethal, kills Grimwald’s Lover (Andrea Luna). Because it’s Christmas, though, Grimwald’s undead lover returns and they live happy ever (ever as in vampire ever).

And then there’s Santa. Probably because he reads The Daily Mail, his annual rounds scare the bejeezus out of him. Each time he stumbles, literally and figuratively, into each house, he expects something to befall him. Not even remotely jolly, he traipses in, defenses up, and then, no threat. The anthropomorphic Christmas Tree takes it all in gleeful stride. Santa relaxes, suspects nothing’s going to happen. Then he becomes the victim of a Murphy’s Law. Santa, R.I.P.

2014-12-20-vic1.jpg

Speaking of Eliza Doolittle, you do get accustomed to the face of Post Mortem. They’re energetic and innovative. In every sense of the word, they’re original. A vampire (Ashley Allen), burlesque girls (Sayaka Miyatani and Jessica Rae), and a ghost (Luna). Song (Ellen Warkentine and Andrew Pedroza), movement, and dance. Stories that tangentially evoke Christmas and massively describe the human condition. “A Very Victorian Christmas” offers one big festive wassail. A grog or two in, you might even say it’s good for wassails you.

Exchange Your Presents for Presence

There is always a moment around Thanksgiving — that time when the hype of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sets in — when we begin to dread the responsibilities and chaos of the holidays. To counter that feeling, I have reframed my thinking, shifting focus from presents to presence, to reclaim the spirit and peace of the season. That has made all the difference.

We teach this shift to the professionals in our leadership class. The December sessions focus on connecting with the humanity of others — others whose wants and needs may differ from your own. We work on the gifts of presence: listening, storytelling, and paying it forward.

As families gather this season, shifting focus to the gift of presence can enrich the conversation and bring back the spirit of joy. It begins and ends with listening. Instead of repeating the same old mundane travel stories or complaints about relatives who are not in the room, how about laser-focusing on one another in a loving and positive way? We use the following strategies in class to gift presence to one another, and they are easily adapted to the dinner table.

2014-12-17-Presencedadandchild.jpg

1. Shining the Spotlight: In class, members of a team take turns shining the spotlight on each other with undivided attention and specific positive feedback. Starting with one person, everyone around the table takes turn sharing what they admire about that person, what they have learned from them, or how they have been helped by them. Then the attention moves to the next person, and then the next. It’s a bit awkward at first, but quickly the conversation warms up as group members rivet on one another’s strengths. The givers and the receiver are enriched in this exchange, and the shared joy warms the room.

2. Storytelling: Storytelling animates the room and creates the ties that bind us. We do a variety of exercises in class designed to help people share their stories. At the dinner table, ask each person (this works for all ages) to share a story that made them smile or touched their hearts. This bonding experience opens our hearts and eyes to the goodness we experience around us. Everyone has a tale to contribute.

2014-12-17-Presencewomanandmother.jpg

3. Pay It Forward: Each year, we give our class members one actual present: a $ 20 bill. The only stipulation is that they must pay the $ 20 forward to someone, without expecting anything in return. This requires that people pay attention to the wants and needs of strangers around them, and step up to help them. I’ve made a tradition of giving my children Pay It Forward $ 20 bills as stocking stuffers, so that they continue this practice. They have helped street musicians, mailmen, and mothers in the grocery line with this unexpected generosity and presence.

4. Legacy: As the new year approaches, we often take time to reflect on what we’ve done in the past year and what we hope to do in the coming year. In class, we ask our students to take this a step further and consider their legacy 40 years from now. How do they want to be remembered by their family, colleagues, friends, and community? In the end, what will they have done that mattered? What will they do to make this world a better place? How will they contribute to the goodness that this world needs so desperately? By listening inwardly to discern what calls to them, they gain insight into what to start doing right now.

This can feel like the best of seasons — filled with love, joy, and possibilities — or the worst, filled with the frustration of buying presents, being bombarded with advertisements for things we do not need or cannot afford, and national news stories of tragedy and grief. What we do need and can afford is to demonstrate leadership in conversations with family and friends and take action to increase our presence and that of those around us. Exchange presents for presence to experience and spread the joy that we all hope for at this time of year.

‘Bob’s Burgers’ Presents New Thanksgiving Song, ‘Gravy Boat’

There aren’t enough Thanksgiving songs in the world, and that’s why we’re shining a spotlight on Gene, Linda and Gayle’s addition to that limited selection. On the Thanksgiving episode of “Bob’s Burgers,” the sisters took a moment before the turkey was cut to regale the assembled family and friends with “Gravy Boat” — with Gene providing the musical accompaniment.

What starts off as fairly cute and innocuous quickly takes a turn toward the weird — much like most episodes of “Bob’s Burgers.” Unfortunately, Bob fell asleep, interrupting the song. But here’s what we got:

A ding, a ding, a-what’s that sound?
It’s the gravy boat a-comin’ around
It’s not a Navy boat, it’s the gravy boat
Filled with bravery, savory, sailor folk

Sailors in your mouth
Sailors in your mouth

Now it’s stuck in your head and you’ll find yourself hoping they get to continue this masterpiece next Thanksgiving.

“Bob’s Burgers” airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. EST on Fox.
