Nike Creates Circular Design Guide To Promote Sustainable Collaboration

COPENHAGEN – Nike has created an open source design guide to help businesses reach their sustainability goals. The guide maps out the 10 principles of circular design to help the industry codify and standardize sustainability in the supply chain.
“It’s an invitation for a dialogue with the creative groups around the world. We are endeavouring to create a common language between everyone to communicate effectively ,” said John Hoke, Nike’s chief design officer.
Students from Central Saint Martins and founder of A-Cold-Wall, Samuel Ross helped to craft and has trialed this guidebook. “It’s speaking to this idea of collaboration and cross pollination between facilities, suppliers and ethical ways of production,” Ross said.
The circular design guide includes case studies from Nike, as well as other brands such as Levi’s and Fjallraven, that have achieved or brought to scale one of the 10 core principles of sustainability including materials, cyclability, waste avoidance and green chemistry.
“So there are some case studies that say ‘Here’s an example of this particular principle, but from a collaboration point of view, this is meant to be an engagement, so the idea of the guide is to open source it, but also continually engage with the people who have provided

Adidas Partners With Lean In to Promote Equal Pay for Women

Adidas is doing its part to help level the playing field for women.
The activewear brand has teamed with Lean In, the organization founded by Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg to encourage gender equality in the workplace. And today — which is Equal Pay Day — the organization is kicking off #20PercentCounts, the first of three public awareness campaigns to shine a light on the fact that women, on average, are paid 20 percent less than men for doing the same job.
On this day, Lean In has partnered with hundreds of U.S. businesses to share information on the gender pay gap in their communities.
For Adidas, the campaign will be promoted at its Adidas and Reebok retail stores across the U.S. as well as on their e-commerce sites.

Karen Parkin, an Adidas executive board member in charge of the company’s global human resources, said Adidas’ chief executive officer and chief merchandising officer met with Sandberg last fall and decided to get involved.
“We’re partnering with an organization we have high respect and admiration for,” Parkin said. “We want to be an employer of choice and to do that, we need to offer equal career opportunities for males and females.

Model Alliance Founder Sara Ziff Details Initiatives to Promote Fair Treatment

Started in 2012 to give models more of a voice at work, the Model Alliance has since broadened to include strategic research, policy initiatives and campaigns.
In striving to promote fair treatment, equal opportunity and more sustainable practices “from the runway to the factory floor,” the group has various initiatives underfoot. For starters, with New York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, the Model Alliance has introduced the Models’ Harassment Protection Act, a bill designed to close loopholes that would leave models open to sexual harassment on the job. California Assemblyman Marc Levine is pitching in with a similar bill, the Talent Protections Act of 2018. That one is meant to prevent sexual abuse and eating disorders and calls for the training of agents and artists to inform them of their obligations and rights.
During last month’s New York Fashion Week, the Model Alliance teamed with the Council Fashion Designers of America to give models some privacy while changing backstage. IMG and Pier 59 were on board with the idea in their respective venues and the goal is “to build on these efforts in the future,” according to Model Alliance founder Sara Ziff.

Giant Penis Sprays Confetti To Promote Safe Sex … Come Again?

When a man in a giant penis costume ejaculates confetti on people, you pay attention.

But are you thinking about practicing safe sex?

That’s the dilemma facing a wacky PSA in Norway to combat the increase in STDs there. “Penis can surprise you,” says the tagline in Norwegian.

The PSA was produced by the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU).

A spokesperson for the Involve! agency behind the spot told the Mirror the commercial is intended to highlight the fun and naughtiness of sex, though admittedly many over 30 “thought the campaign was pointless and some went so far as to brand it banal and idiotic.”

Silly as it is, the video aims its use-a-condom message at 16- to 25-year-olds, the Telegraph reported. “This is a group that is not swayed by lecturing, facts or scaremongering, RFSU’s Christina Placht said.

The guy wearing the getup, 19-year-old student Philip van Eck, reportedly told a Norwegian outlet that he’s happy to do his part: “I thought it was hilarious. If I can help others, just by being a dick, there is nothing better.”

How Your Daily Run Could Promote a Better Work-Life Balance

How Your Daily Run Could Promote a Better Work-Life BalanceI sometimes feel a pang of guilt as I'm bundling my kids up and getting them ready to sit in my double-jogger while I run for an hour — especially when our day is so full that my mind is completely incapable of wrapping itself around everything that needs to be done. Isn't it selfish of me to think that my run is more important than the grocery shopping? Than the laundry? Than preschool playgroups?
