Rachel Zoe to Take Up Retail ‘Residency’ at Palisades Village

What’s a cross between a pop-up and a permanent store? According to Rachel Zoe, it’s a residency. That’s what the stylist-turned-designer calls her latest brick-and-mortar location in Caruso’s Palisades Village.(Her first endeavor debuted at The Grove in 2016.)
Set to open on Sept. 22 through spring 2019, Zoe’s store will feature her namesake clothing collection along with vintage pieces she sourced and key pieces from her personal archive. Also available for purchase will be Zoe’s seasonal luxury style subscription, Box of Style by Rachel Zoe.
“I have a huge client base and many friends on the westside, and they’re all excited about the Caruso center, so this just felt right,” Zoe said. “Rick Caruso has been such a huge supporter to me and my business and has such a passion for retail you just want to be a part of whatever he’s doing.”

Zoe’s friends Jennifer Meyer, Andrea Lieberman and Anine Bing are also opening stores in Palisades Village.

Rachel Zoe Resort 2019

In the seven years since founding her namesake advanced contemporary collection, stylist/designer/media mogul Rachel Zoe hasn’t strayed from her original MO of providing career-girl-meets-party-girl clothes to the aspirational Millennial customer.
She’s succeeded at melding her own boho-meets-Old Hollywood style (with numerous homages to her idol Tom Ford), all the while honing the quality/perceived value balance necessary for the contemporary category (taking her line in-house after its initial Global Brands Group licensing model was a good move).
For resort, her favorite season, Zoe upped her fabric game, playing with black feather-printed fil coupe with gold accents for off-the-shoulder maxidresses and tops and a silver and black snow leopard-printed taffeta for evening suits. Metallics took on a new breadth, because “for me, metallic is, like, its own color group,” she said.
Each successive Rachel Zoe collection sees new iterations of the Seventies-inspired pantsuit, and this season’s inspired tuxedo dressing included double-breasted white bridal alternatives, some piped in rhinestones or tonal chiffon, liquid sequined versions, as well as double-layered-lapel black crepe with white piping that looked and felt rich. In addition to her signature “Rachel” flare trousers, Zoe played with wider-leg and cropped tomboy options.

Rachel Zoe RTW Fall 2018

“This collection means so much because it’s my favorite one since my first collection,” said Rachel Zoe of her fall 2018 presentation, her 28th outing since adding “designer” to her many job descriptions. “It’s got all my favorite things: sequins, fringe, gold, velvet, lace. Why not, right?”
For Zoe, especially when designing for her favorite season, piling on the lush fabrics only adds to the Hollywood glamour vibe. The setting – the soon-to-be One Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, its grand staircase draped in red velvet – amplified her message. As guests like Kris Jenner, Paris Hilton and Molly Sims made their way inside, it was clear that Zoe knows who and what her customer aspires to.
“Life should be a party. Even if you are not actually at a party, you should dress like you are,” she said. “As a designer, I set out to make glamorous clothes that somehow can work into your everyday life. To see so many of my designs come to life on all of [the guests] here, it never gets old.”

Rachel Lindsay & Bryan Abasolo on Their Interracial Relationship: ‘Love Is Blind — We’re Just a Man & Woman in Love’

Even before her journey on The Bachelorette began, Rachel Lindsay made a personal commitment to stay true to her heart.

As the first black lead in Bachelor Nation history, Lindsay admittedly felt the pressure to choose a black man from her pool of contestants.

“It wasn’t always easy. It wasn’t. But I had to not let the pressure get to me,” Lindsay, 32, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “I had to rise above it to find my happy ending at the end of all of this.”

“I knew that people would be watching myself in this role for the first time, and there would be people who were positive and people who were negative, and I would feel pressure from certain audiences that would say you ‘had to pick a black man.’ And then I would have other audiences that didn’t care about that,” Lindsay shares.

“But for me, before I said yes to being the Bachelorette I had to get over . I had to realize that not everyone was going to be for me when it came to the decisions that I make. Not everyone was going to be happy about my decisions, but I needed to be selfish in this journey and find the one who was perfect for me,” Lindsay explains. “I couldn’t make a decision based on anyone else because I’m the one who’s going to have to live with it.”

And new fiancé Bryan Abasolo couldn’t be prouder of how the Dallas-born lawyer portrayed herself on the show. “Such strength, class and grace,” says Abasolo, who got down on one knee and proposed to Lindsay on Monday night’s season 13 finale.

For more on Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay’s engagement to Bryan Abasolo, including their thoughts on their big debut and plan for the future, pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday

Reflecting on their romance, the newly engaged couple says that race never played a factor in them falling in love.

“Love is blind,” says Miami-based chiropractor Abasolo.

“I’m not going to pick somebody because they look a certain way. I could’ve done that without doing the show. I really put my all in this because I was trying to find that one for me. I was trying to find my person — the person who I want to spend the rest of my life with — and I can’t let color dictate that,” says Lindsay. ”

“I can’t be blindsided by the fact that I have to choose this person because they look the same way that I do. That’s not fair. That’s not what love is about. That doesn’t define love. It’s not my definition of love,” she continues. “My definition of love is sitting right next to me. So it was really important for me to not do that. Everything else was background noise and I was just zeroed in on finding that person for me.”

Now that the couple no longer has to keep their engagement under wraps, and will now be able spend time with one another in public, they realize their lives will be propelled into spotlight.

Still, they’re not intimidated about being in a high-profile interracial relationship — or any criticism that may result from others’ biases.

“Honestly, we don’t even think about it or talk about it. I mean, we’re just a man and a woman in love. We just want to enjoy life,” Abasolo shares. “I just think we’re two mature adults, that we can handle anything moving forward. Communication is a big key.”

Adds Lindsay, “I think we’re both strong enough to rise above whatever criticism we may face by being an interracial couple. But between the two of us, we had those tough questions during the season. I know that he is capable of handling it, as am I. For us, we just love each other.”

Diane Keaton’s iconic career is packed with so many signature menswear-inspired style moments, her look has become as famous as her roles. So it’s no real surprise that stars came out in full fashionable force Thursday night for an event honoring her achievements.

Rachel Maddow Is ‘Comforted’ By Donald Trump’s ‘Incompetence’

President Donald Trump’s “incompetence” isn’t such a bad thing, according to Rachel Maddow.

On Tuesday’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the MSNBC host said she was actually “comforted by the fact that [Trump] can’t do anything that he wants to do” ― despite the GOP also controlling both houses of Congress. But Maddow did says she’s “worried that he will figure it out.”

“I mean, it’s weird, it’s like the overall question is: Are you comforted by his incompetence?” she asked. “Would you rather have a competent person trying to do bad things or would you rather have an incompetent person trying to do bad things?”

Maddow also said leading Democrats needed to “re-discover their inner water skier” and allow themselves to be towed along by the boat that is the American people.

“Counting on the Democratic Party and its elected officials to sort of lead an election campaign against Trump, or to lead on policy stuff, or to lead people toward making Democratic choices hasn’t been working,” she said.

Those officials would “be unstoppable” if they took their cues from grassroots activists who have come to the fore in protests during the Trump administration, Maddow said.

Rachel Zoe’s Perfect Gift For Mother’s Day

When stylist and designer Rachel Zoe noticed she was repeatedly getting asked the same questions, she decided to do something about it.

“People were always reaching out and asking, ‘What do I need? What do you love? What should I wear?’ ” Zoe tells PEOPLE.

Zoe, 45, decided to answer that question with her Box of Style, a quarterly selection of her favorite items that is valued at over $ 350 but can be purchased on her site for $ 100.

“It’s a seasonal box with really special pieces, most of which are exclusive to the Zoe Report,” the mother of two tells PEOPLE.

The spring box is available now at a discounted price just in time for Mother’s Day and includes items such as the Tribe Alive purse, Tatcha rice enzyme powder and Adornmonde earrings.

“Basically I think about what women would want to have each season,” says Zoe. “It could be a caftan for summer and a great pair of sunglasses or a beautiful necklace.”

And although the items in the box change each season, Zoe promises one thing always remains the same. “The items are always high quality and there will never be junk in it,” she says.

“There is nothing in there that you will get and think ‘oh, I am going to give this away to so and so,’ ” says Zoe. “I really think about what would women want to use, own, wear, buy and be excited about.”

Rachel Zoe Links With Google on Live Case Collection

SOCIAL SAVVY: Rachel Zoe today launched a phone case collaboration with Google.
The tech accessories would seem the most natural progression in the build out of Zoe’s brand and draw inspiration from her fall ready-to-wear collection with a large dose of sequins. The collaboration with the tech firm includes a dozen different case designs that can be used on the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5x and Nexus 6p.
Google’s Pixel was the technology company’s first phone and launched this past fall. The Rachel Zoe Live Case collection — Live Cases being Google’s customizable phone covers — retail for $ 40 and are available through the Google Store. The cases are equipped with near-field communication technology, allowing it to sync up with the phone once snapped. Once the sync occurs, the device’s wallpaper also then matches the customized case’s artwork.
The designer is expected to celebrate the collaboration Saturday during her Zoeasis party running alongside the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.
Zoe joins a growing roster of artists and designers who have partnered with Google on Live Case artwork including Jen Stark, Skrillex, Jeff Koons, Opening Ceremony and Gray Malin, among others.
The Google collaboration isn’t Zoe’s first foray into the realm

Rachel Roy Dishes on Instant Fashion, L.A. Life and Spring Favorites

Rachel Roy has embraced digital marketing and social media from the start — sometimes landing herself in controversy, which she gracefully manages to shake off — so it’s no surprise she’s made a series of short videos titled “Rachel’s Favorites” at Smashbox in Culver City, Calif., earlier this month, that are set to debut on her site April 1.

A look from Rachel Roy’s spring favorites digital campaign.

The designer singled out 10 pieces from her spring 2017 campaign, ranging in price from $ 49 to $ 179 retail, and showed her audience how to wear each piece. A blush blazer for $ 179 could be paired with white jeans or a chambray shirtdress, while an off-the-shoulder shredded sweatshirt for $ 79 each provided a more casual option.
“These videos are about why I design, why I feel it’s helpful to have these pieces and what to wear them with. Hopefully, they serve the same purpose as social media, which is not only telling a story but having someone get to know you and what is important to you,” she said of integrating her philanthropic causes into the narrative. Rachel Zoe Sets Fall 2017 Fashion Presentation in Los Angeles

Rachel Zoe, who hosted a dinner for her winter edition Box of Style on Wednesday night at Chateau Marmont, is already thinking ahead to fall 2017. The Los Angeles-based designer and stylist decided to present her next collection in L.A. at the beginning of February ahead of New York Fashion Week, where she has traditionally shown her main collections.
“I’m still a small designer; I can’t take over the Griffith Observatory, but I felt it was time to own being an L.A. designer,” said Zoe, who took her apparel business in-house this year. Zoe said she decided after her last New York show that it was time to switch coasts “for a minute.”
“It was our biggest and best-reviewed show yet, but I felt it was getting too big, and I’ve always been about a more intimate vibe, not a massive event,” she said. “I leave that to Tom, Tommy, Ralph and Marc, who have earned it.” Tommy Hilfiger just announced his Feb. 8 Los Angeles show, which will no doubt be on the larger side, and Tom Ford is said to be staging another show in L.A. as well.

Now let’s see what makes this 15 year-old so incredible!

Be sure to check out Part II to find out who Rachel played on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black!

You’re currently on Broadway in Larry David’s Broadway play Fish in the Dark w/ Jason Alexander. What was your audition like for this role?

I read about Fish in The Dark coming to Broadway in the Equity audition announcements. My family and I anticipated its arrival with excitement because we are huge Larry David fans. After learning that there was a role for a young teenage girl, my agent secured me an audition for the project. The breakdown of the character “Jessica Drexel” (Niece of “Norman Drexel” – played by Jason Alexander and originally played by Larry David) called for a 14-year-old intellectual Jewish girl. I went into the audition dressed as myself, since I was a pretty accurate fit for the character description.

There weren’t any suggestions or notes about the role or the show itself. Larry David, along with the director, Anna Shapiro and producer Scott Rudin were seeking all of the various parts of a dysfunctional family and so I believe it was about the feel of the actors and their personalities, as well as their ability to hit the comedy of the play, which is very quick, sharp, and funny. I think they were looking for real and simple in “Jessica Drexel”, as she is a kind of centered presence in a world of very larger than life people, and that worked in my favor in the process.

A few weeks after my first audition with casting, I was called back in to do my lines in different ways with casting. A few days after my callback, I met with Anna Shapiro who worked with me, taped my audition and sent it to Larry David and Scott Rudin to watch. A few days after that, I found out I booked the part!

Which coast is your main residence? Where were you born? Do you have siblings that live with you?

I was born in NYC. I have always lived on the East Coast, and that is where my family lives as well. I have two older siblings, a brother and sister, who have very different passions and interests than I do. We are a close knit family so when my brother goes to college this fall, we will feel happy for him, but sad for us. My sister will leave for college a year later, and I might have to stow away in her suitcase.

What kind of lessons do you take now? What kind of lessons did you take when you were little?

I have studied ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop since I was three years-old. Tap is my favorite because it has such a rhythmic and musical element. My dance teacher, Janine Molinari, is a huge tapper, and sets a bar I try to reach every day. Ballet is a foundation for all dance and I enjoy what it allows me to do as a performer.

My voice teacher helped me to see voice as a lifetime instrument, so it wasn’t until recently that I let my inner belt fly. Voice is an instrument that requires both patience and care. It has always been important to me to work on all different types and genres of music.

I also play guitar, which I taught myself, and have played the piano for five years. I currently am a student at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

On July 26, you will have your debut at 54 Below. How did this come about?

During a music coaching session, Lindsay Mendez who’s an amazing mentor in my life, suggested the idea about how fun it would be to perform a one-woman show about my life as a teen performer. After a call with 54 Below, Lindsay came back to me saying they loved the idea and concept of the show. Knowing Lindsay would be the perfect director, I asked Steven Lutvak, who co-wrote and composed the Tony Award winning A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder to musical direct the show. I was over the moon when he said he had time in his non-stop schedule. Steven has been my teacher, role model and friend since I first started in this business.

In “Unwrangled” I will chronicle what it is like to be a young professional actor growing up in the spotlight via a musical memoir; where I bring the wild aspects and spectrum of emotions to life. There are so many perceptions of who embarks on the type of journey I have had and what the path must be like. My goal is to bring people into that world and see why young performers have this unexplainable passion and how its collected moments are the reason us young actors keep doing what we do.

You’re 15 and already have been in five Broadway shows. (Fish in the Dark, The People In The Picture, Shrek, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins.) You’ve also done non-Broadway theater. Tell us the difference between working on Broadway vs. non-Broadway.

Broadway is larger than life, and there is an exuberant energy that flows when the audience is with you. I am so lucky to have had the opportunities I have had to be in Broadway shows. In Shrek the Musical when I was only eight years-old, I first learned about the magnitude of a Broadway stage in the 2,000 seat Broadway theater. I would come out in a big tower and sing with Sutton Foster, and then I would watch on the stage monitor as each ensemble actor and dancer would bring to life their stories. Each show has such different spirit and life backstage and onstage. Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot were about the bonding of all of the kids. Most Broadway shows make a big effort to cast kids who get along with other kids. I think that’s probably why the processes can involve multiple callbacks. At age 10, when I entered my fourth Broadway show, The People in the Picture, written by Iris Rainer Dart who is now bringing her new show Beaches the Musical to Broadway, I had the chance to create a very big part opposite Donna Murphy who played my grandmother. Onstage I would watch Donna as she held her glasses or tilt her head a certain way, or change so slightly the lilt of her voice, and I was mesmerized by how the character was inside her body. At the end of the show, when I was crying as Donna’s character died, I was crying from a very deep place because I had connected so much to her. Shows are finely tuned machines, and every actor relies on the precision, heart, and energy of every other actor.

Plays, on Broadway and Off Broadway, require a very strong sense of timing and there is a rhythm that has to develop among the actors that draws the audience in, because there isn’t the music and dance and movement that musicals have to energize the audience. Larry David’s play feels like live comedy every night. Larry and Jason Alexander have brought such different things to the lead role, but each one has brought a larger than life element that sets a tone for each of the amazing actors in the play to weave into. One of the Off Broadway plays I did, The Big Meal, directed by Sam Gold and written by Dan LeFranc, had the feel of an orchestra, with different generations acting simultaneously and literally bouncing rapid fire off phrases which is a very true re-enactment of how real life can be. Another play I did, Everything is Ours, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt and written by Nikole Beckwith, challenged the audience to look at how to connect to other people and form families in an increasingly remote world. Sometimes in plays, there can be even more of an intimacy that develops with the audience in a play in both large and small theaters. Besides the huge laughter and fun of working with the Fish in the Dark cast, the highlight of my last few years was playing the title role “Carrie” in a teen production of Carrie the Musical, produced by The Broadway Workshop, a youth and teen theater company run by Marc Tuminelli. The cast members remain some of my closest friends. I think for me, I love immersing myself in the world of a production, and getting into my groove with whatever part I play on stage.

I Remember Rachel for Her Ferocity for Life, Not Cancer

2015-06-22-1434997709-3575241-HorizontalCropBen.jpg

The skeet whooshed towards the heavens. My right eye stared ahead with the barrel flush. I had developed a rhythm with the saucer: After it launched I waited until it reached a precise point in my field of vision and then I pulled the trigger. Without patience, my aim would be low and the saucer would continue its original trajectory until it fell to the ground. So I waited and then, click, the target erupted, its orange pieces blending with the sky like a perfect match on the color wheel.

I hit 11 of 25 skeets. My friend Rachel, who I’m sure shot guns growing up based on my generalization of people from Arkansas and who say things like, “My drinking water had tadpoles,” only shot two. She hit her first, missed the next 23, and ended with a bang. Rachel sat against a rock and watched others in our group shoot. She smiled and now said things like, “I have not spent time outside in days. It is beautiful.”

There was not a cloud above us and Rachel, a Fulbright scholar, began telling me a story about the sky. If people had never been told the sky was blue then they may see it as white, another color, or simply a void. Those people may have as much trouble wrapping their heads around the blue sky as I have around not seeing it as blue.

I can’t see Rachel in a different light, either. When I met her 2.5 years ago I saw a radiant and beautiful 27-year-old whose attitude matched her use of exclamation points. She told me stories back then, too, like the meaning of interrobang, which is a combination of an exclamation point and a question mark, and how she was diagnosed at 26 with stage 3 colon cancer that would later spread to her ovaries and omentum, “upgrading” the cancer to stage 4. Rachel would stay on treatment forever, in a concept that is new to me and the way I had “finished” cancer treatment when I was a teen: Rachel was living with cancer.

I may never have met Rachel if her life trajectory had not been erupted by cancer. Even though we had many similarities and both lived in Washington, D.C., we met as part of a group of cancer survivors to rock climb on the red rocks of Moab, Utah, our trip funded by a nonprofit that believes providing outdoor adventures changes survivors’ lives.

I have always been strong and lean as if I was meant to climb rock walls in that desert that looked like Mars. Still, Rachel was better at climbing. She possessed grace and strength that was less obvious than mine. Rachel was actually better than me at most things I was passionate about, including writing, shedding body fat, researching nutrition and drinking whiskey, which I realized when we toasted her 29th birthday with her dad’s homemade moonshine.

When her cancer returned, Rachel underwent surgery to remove ovaries and parts of her colon. Controversial surgery to slice her open and pour hot chemotherapy into cavity, a procedure known as shake and bake. More surgery to remove more tumor and peek inside at the cancer that had spread everywhere and could not be removed due to its placement near her organs. So much treatment and so many procedures over so many years that I could not keep track of Rachel’s status without feeling like I was burdening her.

When Rachel shared episodes from her life there was always a funny story, because if her level of suffering couldn’t break her then nothing could. When she had to cancel climbing with me she said, “This kid with a provisional driver’s license just ran into me. I’m fine, car is fine — just a fender bender, luckily. And the guy was a super nice kid!”

And, “I’m supposed to be in the hospital right now but they don’t have a bed for me yet. I guess Georgetown was just really busy today! I just have some sort of bug, could be a result of the trip to Zambia. Who knows.”

And while she was still hospitalized the day before her thirtieth birthday party she said, “I have a lot of potential arguing to do in the morning to get them to let me out of here for a few hours. I’ll call you if we need to execute ‘plan prison break!'”

I am fortunate to have completed my 20s without cancer, following an adolescence smothered by it. I spent my college years questioning how to live more than actually living: When would I share with friends and romantic interests that I had had cancer? How long could I lie about my limp that was caused by my resected cancerous ilium? Could I ever do it again if I had to — endure cancer and its treatments with the same unwavering spirit and superhuman conviction?

Now eight years after college I wonder if I could I ever do what Rachel did — live with cancer without any possibility of a cure, all while never letting up on exclamation points?

Sitting straight up, on the ground with her back supported by the rock, under the clear blue sky, Rachel was at peace. She hadn’t eaten in a month and days before, the procedure to insert a feeding tube nearly failed catastrophically when her doctor at first couldn’t get the tube past the tumor that was blocking the entrance into her stomach. “That was almost it,” she said.

I have seen many young people pass away due to cancer. When death is inevitable, the end can come quickly. Rachel was different, living nine more months without food or drink; never surrendering to disease; never surrendering her loving and positive spirit. “I just want to live and have more adventures,” she said, still smiling at the heavens.

Rachel Yingling erupted into my life and so many others’ lives. She is the blue sky: Her impact on those who knew her was so great that none of us can imagine what life would be like if we had not met her.

Kelly Osbourne Posts Photo Of Herself Dressed As Rachel Dolezal On Instagram

Plenty of celebrities have added their two cents to this whole Rachel Dolezal situation, but Kelly Osbourne’s response takes things to a whole new level.

The 30-year-old daughter of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne posted a photo to her Instagram page on Thursday, in which she’s dressed to look like the former NAACP chapter president. She captioned the photo, “#CallMeRachel #MyCasualLook.”

In the photo, the former “Fashion Police” co-host is clearly emulating Dolezal; she’s dressed in a dark blazer and is wearing a curly brunette wig. All we’re thinking is, why?

Osbourne’s choice to post the pic seems a little off considering all the drama that went down after her former co-host Giuliana Rancic said Zendaya’s dreadlocks looked as if they smelled like “patchouli oil” or “weed.”

Following the controversy, Osbourne left the show, and just this past Wednesday, Melissa Rivers announced she’d be joining as co-host.

CFDA Honors Rachel Zoe

CFDA HONORS RACHEL ZOE: The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Refinery29 and Neiman Marcus launched their Spotlight series in Los Angeles Wednesday night honoring Rachel Zoe. CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb, Refinery29 editor in chief Christene Barberich and Neiman’s fashion director Ken Downing hosted the dinner at Terrine that drew designers Greg Chait, Jennifer Meyer, Claire Vivier, Emily Current and Merritt Elliott, Rosetta Getty, Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy and Louis Leeman along with actresses Grace Gummer, Sara Foster and Rebecca Gayheart. “This series puts a spotlight on successful women who entered the business with non-traditional backgrounds. The message that you can succeed regardless of your training is a positive one that we hope will resonate with the Refinery audience,” said Kolb, noting the new partnership with the media company, which he hopes will garner a younger audience for the CFDA. The next Spotlight series will take place in New York in June honoring Tabitha Simmons. Kolb was also busy checking out the Los Angeles manufacturing scene, with visits to BCBG, Simon Miller, Nasty Gal and Reformation. “We’re looking at ways to do an event here that contributes industry knowledge and rallies support from the city,” he said.
