Comcast Annual Meeting Yields Questions on Net Neutrality, ‘Borderline Treasonous’ Seth Meyers But Not Fox or Sky Deals

Comcast shareholders took the opportunity Monday morning to press chairman-CEO Brian Roberts on the issue of net neutrality rules ending, the availability of weather data, and what one participant characterized as the problem of Seth Meyers’ “borderline treasonous” commentary on President Donald Trump. But Comcast’s pending $ 31 billion bid for Sky and the possibility that […]

Photographer Seth Sabal Continues to Deny Sexual Misconduct Claims Alleged in The Boston Globe

STILL IN THE PICTURE: In response to last week’s Boston Globe article about alleged sexual misconduct by photographers, Seth Sabal again denied any wrongdoing via his attorney, Carlos M. Carvajal.
“He can unequivocally say that he never has taken any nude photos of an underage model, he never sexually harassed anyone and never forced anyone to do something they weren’t comfortable with. If anyone who felt uncomfortable with any requests that have been made, he does apologize. He never coerced, forced or in any way intimidated anyone to do anything against their will,” Carvajal said.
“But he recognizes that what’s going on is long in coming, and it’s not just in the world of fashion. This is something that’s going on globally in all industries. It is something that his wife [Yuliana], a longtime model, suffered some harassment throughout her career,” Carvajal said. “But it’s also important to recognize that it’s not just in the modeling agency or the fashion industry. And it’s also important to recognize that some people are being unjustly accused. But that should in no way, shape or form diminish the ability of the people who have suffered to have their moment for what is long in coming

Diva Devotee Seth Sikes Honors Pride With A Celebratory New Show

Few performers are as perfectly suited for Pride weekend as Seth Sikes.

The 33-year-old cabaret star has been thrilling audiences with his tribute concerts to Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli for nearly three years. On June 24, however, he’ll go all out with a no-holds-barred show at New York’s Feinstein’s/54 Below featuring songs made famous by the aforementioned divas, as well as Bernadette Peters and Barbra Streisand. (Catch a sneak peek of Sikes performing a tune from the musical “Gypsy” above.)

“Usually my goal is to keep the songbook alive and celebrate the ladies,” Sikes told HuffPost. “But this time, the goal is to get people in a happy, happy mood to go out dancing afterward… what celebrates Pride more than a bunch of diva songs?”

What began as a “one-night-only stunt” in 2014 has taken Sikes across the country, and even internationally, since then. Most recently, he celebrated what would have been Garland’s 95th birthday with a performance in London ― a particularly fitting tribute, as the “Wizard of Oz” star capped off her unparalleled career with a string of shows in England’s capital.

Of course, Sikes is aware that his Pride weekend show comes at a time when many LGBTQ people are still reeling from the election of President Donald Trump, who ran on an explicitly anti-queer platform. The performer, who has not shied away from politics on social media, won’t mention Trump during his performance, but rather “have some fun” while reminding people that the LGBTQ community is “mighty and not going away.”

“I talked a little bit about Trump in my last show,” he said. “But frankly, at this point, I’m so sick of hearing about him and talking about him, I probably won’t bring it up at all this time. Let’s forget the asshole for a moment!”

For now, Sikes couldn’t be happier to be honoring Pride with a brand-new show. “I think Pride is about family and community and a celebration of our unique culture. We have a lot of that to celebrate right now ― including our lady icons ― and we have a lot to be grateful for, including marriage equality,” he said. “But we can’t take any of it for granted.”

Seth Sikes performs at New York’s Feinstein’s/54 Below June 24. Next up, he’ll visit the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, Massachusetts on July 8 and Aug. 7.

Seth Meyers Rips Trump’s Team For Making Us Question Our Sanity

The president is under investigation. That much we know, right?

Wrong! Sad! You’re the puppet!

Seth Meyers took a confusing trip down the rabbit hole on Monday to try to make sense of the mixed messages coming from the White House about the alleged investigation into Donald Trump’s Russian ties.

First, the president tweeted an investigation was happening; then Jay Sekulow, a member of his legal team, denied it; and then Sekulow apparently confirmed it before immediately denying it again.

Thankfully, Meyers was there sifting through the ashes of our own sanities to break down what’s going on. He also breaks out his Jared Kushner impression, thanks to the Trump senior adviser’s recent reveal of his true voice. So if your head is hurting during this whole ordeal, at least there’s that.

Seth Meyers Claims Donald Trump Is ‘The Dude’ From ‘Big Lebowski’

This aggression will not stand, man.

During his “Closer Look” segment on Tuesday night, Seth Meyers recapped the topsy-turvy, ridiculous circumstances surrounding Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes and the investigation into Donald Trump’s alleged Russian ties.

Nunes was a one-man show last week, holding a press conference to claim that there was evidence that Trump officials were surveilled by the government. He even took the information to the president before going to his own committee.

Meyers said Trump took Nunes’ information as proof that the Obama administration had wiretapped him, despite those reports being shut down.

Among other things, Trump told Time, “A lot of information has just been learned, and a lot of information may be learned over the next coming period of time,” and, “Well, he just got this information. This was new information. That was just got,” which led Meyers to make a shocking discovery …

Donald Trump is The Dude from “The Big Lebowski.”

Meyers explained, “The Dude and Trump have a lot in common. They both have bathrobes, both obsessed with their rugs, and they both love White Russians.”

Also, don’t forget they both have a Steve Buscemi connection. Buscemi, of course, played Donny in “The Big Lebowski,” and while attending a Women’s March earlier this year, he posed alongside a “Lebowski”-inspired message to Trump.

There you have it, dudes.

So should we start calling President Trump The Dude now? You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole brevity thing?

Seth Meyers Addresses That Time Jimmy Fallon Rubbed Trump’s Head

It was the hair tousle heard ‘round the world.

Last year, Jimmy Fallon had then-presidential candidate Donald Trump on his show, and rather than ask meaningful questions, the “Tonight Show” host messed up Trump’s hair.

People were infuriated, reportedly “justifiably infuriated.” Some even said Fallon humanizing the candidate got Trump elected.

Seth Meyers and Fallon addressed the controversy on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show.”

After discussing Meyers’ contentious history with President Trump (the “Late Night” host continually calls out Trump in his “Closer Look” segment, he ripped The Donald apart during the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and the pair even played a quarrelsome father and son in a 2004 “SNL” sketch), Fallon brought up Tousle-Gate.

“We had him on the show, and I messed his hair up,” said Fallon.

“No, I didn’t hear about that,” joked Meyers.

Meyers then went on to say he was “insulted” by the reaction and mad that people claimed Fallon was the reason Trump won.

“I am the reason he won,” Meyers said. “I made fun of him in 2011. That’s the night he decided to run. I kicked the hornet’s nest. You just rubbed a hornet’s head.”

He continued, “Look, it’s not the outcome I wanted, but it’s history. I got a man elected president. I want my points.”

This weekend, Meyers is being honored at the 2017 HRC Greater New York Gala for bringing attention to “discriminatory legislation targeting LGBTQ people across the country.”

It’s an HRC Equality Award, not “points.” But it’ll have to do.

”The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Seth the Explorer Book II

Seth the Explorer Book II

Seth embarks on his second hunting trip to try and bring food back for his family after his father leaves to go overseas on a business trip. Seth is 12 years old and must become the man of the family in order to provide for his mother and himself. Seth must hide and run from bears out in the wilderness as he tries to hunt deer, chicken, and turkeys. This time Seth is more prepared for his journey. Seth sets up camp in Grey’s Canyon where he will hunt the following day. He starts a fire and sets up his tree stand in a much better hiding place than he had on his previous hunting trips. Seth would be able to see a further distance now and could tell when animals were approaching him. The best part was that he would have a shot at them without moving. Him moving is what scared many of the animals away before he could shoot them on his first hunting trip. He was very focused and ready for the challenge ahead of him. Seth killed a couple of deer and had to gut them and pull out the meet that his mother could clean and cook. He kept a bucket with all of the meat in it that he had captured throughout his day. Seth saw many animals and was able to have a much better hunting trip on his second time around than he did the first time. He also avoided the bears for the most part that second day as he only saw five bears along his journey. Would Seth make it home safely from his second hunting trip or would the trip be prolonged and extended so he could catch more animals and get some meat for his family? Read book II to find out. Here is an excerpt from the book.”The morning had finally come and Tim was awake before his mother woke him up. He work up at 4:00am. Once again his mother decided to fix him a big breakfast along with his daily glass of chocolate milk. Tim wanted to make sure that he was well rested and nourished for the trip that he was about to go on. Seth Meyers Hilariously Explains Holiday-Themed Teen Slang

Seth Meyers admits that it’s hard to keep up with ever-evolving teen slang.

So the “Late Night” host decided to explain on Thursday exactly what some of the new holiday-themed terms actually mean.

Well, terms that his team had created ― such as “Ball Drop,” “The Holy Land,” “Chronic-Kuh” and “Daly Double.”

“I’m about to turn 43 years old. I’m married, I have a kid,” Meyers said. “But nothing makes me feel older than when I don’t know or understand the new slang terms teenagers are using.”

Check it out in the clip above.

Seth Meyers Loses It Over Thanksgiving’s Proximity To Christmas

Seth Meyers clearly isn’t in the holiday spirit yet.

The “Late Night” host hilariously lost his cool while talking about the proximity of Thanksgiving to Christmas in a spoof segment broadcast on Thursday night.

You know I usually don’t air my personal opinions on the show, but this one has actually gotten me in trouble in the past,” the comedian said, before launching into his tirade.

Unfortunately, a voiceover artist claimed that NBC “network policy” prevented it from broadcasting his comments.

“But due to a technical issue, we were unable to edit this portion of the show,” the voiceover man added ― before summarizing Meyers’ diatribe, which included his suggestion that having two turkey-eating holidays within a month of each other was “totally wack” and it was all part of a fitness and holiday industry conspiracy to sell more gym memberships come January.

See Meyers’ full tirade in the clip above.

4 Charming ‘SNL’ Stories From Amy Poehler & Seth Meyers

As part of the promotional push for her new book, “Yes Please,” Amy Poehler sat down with Seth Meyers at New York’s 92Y on Wednesday to discuss her career, their friendship and “Saturday Night Live.” Poehler and Meyers were both hired before the start of the 2001-02 season, and shared the Weekend Update desk from 2006-08. Ahead, four of the best “SNL” anecdotes they shared with the 92Y audience (but not that one about Jon Hamm making Amy Poehler laugh while she was pregnant, because she might have told that one a billion times in the last month).

1. Amy’s Sarah Palin rap was one of Seth’s favorite “SNL” moments

sarah palin snl

“I was on the show for 12 and a half years, and there were maybe 10 times where you thought you fucking nailed it. That you wished no part of it had gone different,” Meyers said. “It’s like when baseball players hit the ball and flip the bat because they know it’s going out of the park.” That’s how Meyers felt about Poehler’s Sarah Palin rap during Weekend Update, which she performed while being nine months pregnant and in front of Palin herself.

“I was an animal. It’s really fun to be that pregnant because you freak everybody out,” Poehler said.

2. Amy thought Ashlee Simpson’s lip-sync flub wasn’t a big deal

ashlee simpson snl

It’s a story Poehler recounts in “Yes Please”: This is what the reaction was like backstage when Ashlee Simpson was caught lip-syncing during her “SNL” performance.

“We were about to do a Merv the Perv sketch. I was dressed as ‘Kill Bill.’ Rachel Dratch was Raggedy Ann. And Maya Rudolph was in a pregnant cat suit,” Poehler said. “They ran by, and it was one of those things where it was so hectic that we hid under the table.” Poehler recalled how Lesley Stahl happened to be backstage as well, as “60 Minutes” was following Lorne Michaels around for a segment on the “SNL” executive producer. Her recollection from under the table: “A thin lady with heels ran by.”

For Meyers, things were a little different. “I was getting hair and makeup, so I didn’t see it. It was like being in the town next over when Godzilla attacks. People ran by [screaming],” he said.

Despite the chaos, Poehler felt the incident would blow over.

“I remember drunkenly at the party being like it’s not a big deal, nobody’s going to care,” she said before mimicking her drunk voice. “‘Who cares? Nobody is going to talk about it tomorrow.'”

3. Johnny Knoxville apparently brought loose pills to “SNL”

johnny knoxville snl

When Johnny Knoxville hosted “SNL,” Rachel Dratch threw her back out after sneezing during the read-through couldn’t move. Fortunately, Knoxville was there to offer some assistance. “He reached into his pockets and pulled out 12 loose pills,” Poehler said. “None of them were downers. All of them only wanted to make you want to party.”

As it turned out, Dratch didn’t need Knoxville’s pharmaceuticals. She received help from the NBC doctor. “She brought the Vicodin, and Rachel didn’t want to take one,” Poehler said. “Everyone else was like, ‘You should take one.'”

4. Amy & Seth’s first show was after 9/11, and it started with a “beautiful joke”

snl rudolph guiliani

Poehler and Meyers both started on the show in 2001, and their first read-through was supposed to happen on Sept. 11.

“It was a very strange time to be starting a new job at a weekly comedy variety show,” Poehler said. “There was a lot of talk about comedy being over. There was a lot of, ‘Will we ever laugh again?’ That happened, of course, when JFK died. There were all these proclamations about when will we ever be able to get back. That felt truly … it really felt like we were never going to get back anywhere close to where we were. The wound felt so psychic. I was living in New York for six or seven years, so it was my hometown at that point.”

Poehler recalled how the aftermath of the terrorist attacks mixed with the jitters associated with starting a new job created an odd juxtaposition. “It was just that combination of, ‘Where are the bathrooms? And are we gonna die?'” she said. “Also there was anthrax in our building, which was great too.”

The season premiere aired on Sept. 29, 2001 with Reese Witherspoon as host. Paul Simon sang “The Boxer” at the beginning of the show as a group of first responders and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani appeared on stage. After Simon’s song, Lorne Michaels came out.

“It was a beautiful New York moment and there was that great joke where Lorne says to Mayor Giuliani, ‘Can we be funny?’ And Mayor Giuliani says, ‘Why start now?’ It’s so hard to write a joke like that. What fucking joke do you open with?” Poehler said. “It’s so self-effacing and funny. The mayor gets the laugh. It’s just a beautiful joke. We wanted the mayor to be in charge.”

After the show, Poehler and the cast went to the after-party with some of the first responders. “Those guys were a blast,” Poehler said. “They were just full of life, having seen so much sadness. Life and death, sadness and happiness live right next to each other. If you’re lucky you get to serve them both. That was an amazing time to be on that show for sure.”

Seth Rogen Says Performing At Kanye West’s Wedding Isn’t The Best Idea

Last week we learned that Kanye West asked Seth Rogen and James Franco to perform their parody of his song “Bound 2” the night before the rapper weds Kim Kardashian. The performance isn’t actually happening, because, well it would just be kind of awkward for everyone involved.

“Me and Franco got a call, [West] said he was thinking it might be funny if he performed it at the wedding and we came out on a motorcycle. And we were like, ‘And then what do we do?’ And then we were all like, ‘I don’t know,'” Rogen told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on “The Ellen Show” on Thursday, May 1.

“That’s probably not going to be very funny then,” Rogen said they decided, adding that West realized he would just be rapping with Rogen and Franco for five minutes.

The 32-year-old, who stars in the upcoming movie “Neighbors,” was relieved they all arrived at the same conclusion, but added if West really wanted him at his wedding, there would be no hesitation.

“I would be there naked, with a shirt off, however he wanted me, on a motorcycle, doing whatever he needed,” Rogen said DeGeneres. “Because I’m a fan. That’s just as a fan.”

James Franco And Seth Rogen Continue Bromance With Photoshopped Vogue Cover

The world’s second most talked about couple, James Franco and Seth Rogen, have photoshopped themselves on to the cover of Vogue, replacing the heads of Kim and Kanye with their own. This follows the pair’s vaguely homophobic “Bound 2” parody: “Bound 3.” Prepare yourselves for a phoned-in satirization of E!’s two-part wedding special.

Young Singles, Seth Adam Smith’s Marriage Advice Isn’t for You

Dear nieces and nephews (biological and metaphorical),

There’s a marriage advice post spreading across the Internet like low-fat mayo over Wonder Bread. It’s called “Marriage Isn’t for You,” and it’s full of sweet-sounding ideas handed out by Seth Adam Smith, a guy who resembles the male half of the the straight couple that tops every wedding cake. In addition to being handsome, Smith has an inspiring and sad story, so we find ourselves nodding and sharing before we realize what he’s really saying.

You’ll probably run across his post at some point, and it will probably make an impression, since you are “at that age” and some of you are dating, but I want you to take a closer look and really give some thought to the ideas he feels entitled to share as gospel after a year and a half of marriage.

Marry your best friend: Good advice if you can swing it, and advice that I’d love to see you follow. Of course, my best friend and I are both male. In fact, many people find that their best friend shares their gender. Alas, in 36 states marriage is indeed not for us, often thanks to the intervention of Smith’s church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But that probably doesn’t bother Smith, since he thinks that…

Marriage is for your future children: Your great-uncles are too old to have kids, but some of them have recently married. You have cousins who can’t have children, but they got married. One day my partner and I will get married. Do our marriages still count if they’re not about children? They certainly do. You can have a wonderful marriage without having babies. So if you do decide to have children, let it be your choice. Don’t let family or friends or anyone tell you that your marriage is less than theirs if it doesn’t produce babies.

Marriage is for the other person’s happiness: If you love someone, you want them to be happy. And it’s very nice to think that you can make another person happy, but it’s also very arrogant. What really makes a person happy? Lots of things: family, friends, hobbies, work, and more. It will be your job to add to their lives and help them be even happier. The way to do that is to be happy yourself, with hobbies, friends, and work of your own. And when those things aren’t going so well in your lives, you can each help the other through the bad times. Together, two happy people can create an even happier couple, but if you make someone else’s happiness your mission in life, you give them the power to make your life a failure. Which brings me to the last point he makes:

A woman’s selfless love cures everything (but a man’s love can come and go): Smith went through a time when he was being very selfish, and his wife forgave him. That’s great for him, but I want you, especially my nieces, to know that you are under no obligation to be the saint in your relationship. If a relationship depends completely on one partner doing all of the forgiving, all of the loving, all of the sacrificing, then it is not a fair relationship, and you deserve a fair relationship. Don’t let anyone tell you that real men misbehave and real women forgive. Find someone who is prepared to be just as loving and devoted as you are.

See, “marriage is for others” is exactly what women have been told for centuries, and it’s done a lot of harm. “Marriage is for the family” kept women ashamed of their marriage problems and too scared to divorce their husbands. “Marriage is for children” has kept multitudes of women locked in abusive marriages “until the kids are grown.”

Cody and I have been together for almost 20 years now, without state sanction, families pushing us together, or children at our feet. Maybe we’ve managed this long because we didn’t have the “benefit” of very much family advice, so we remain reluctant to give much advice ourselves.

But you know what? Since we were never allowed to be the idealized couple atop the wedding cake, we’ve had to find our own way, and we’ve learned an awful lot. We have advice for what to do when marriage isn’t an option, when kids aren’t in the future, when bromides about selflessness give way to realities about careers, priorities, health, and aging. I may not always put that advice on the Internet, but it will always be here for you. And even if we’re not the first people you think of, I hope you come to us before you put much stock in some of the popular advice floating around out there.

Love,
Uncle Wayne

First Nighter: Beth Henley’s “The Jacksonian,” The Seth Rudetsky-Jack Plotnick “Disaster!”

In Beth Henley’s quasi-Southern Gothic play The Jacksonian, the establishment of the title is a Jackson, Mississippi motel with decorated-for-Christmas bar that Walt Spangler has neatly designed.
It would be nice to say that the stage-right bar is busy, but the only denizens–seen over a period of several months–are guesting dentist-on-his-uppers Bill Perch (Ed Harris), his occasionally visiting estranged-because-sometimes-battered wife Susan (Amy Madigan), his manic 16-year-old daughter Rosie (Juliet Brett), possibly suicidal bartender Fred Weber and blowzy motel worker Eva White (Glenne Headly).
The Perches spend time in the stage-left room that Bill occupies. He’s hoping Susan will take him back. She’s hoping anything but. Eva also drops in on official and unofficial motel business. Fred remains in the bar, mixing a drink from time to time but mostly attempting to extract himself from the promise of marriage he’s made to Eva.
The Jacksonian–imported to The New Group’s Acorn stage from Los Angeles’s Geffen Playhouse, where it premiered in February 2012–begins with Rosie, wrapped in a blanket, howling that a murder is going to take place. It’s immediately followed by Bill, wearing a bloodstained white shirt, entering to scoop ice from a large container.
Whereupon the action waffles back and forth from the holiday season–which isn’t very festive for these folks–to the preceding summer and fall months. During the action, they either sit in the bar or gather in Bill’s room.
Playwright Henley, darker here than in most of her previous works, intends, it would seem, to display five misfits as their sorry expectations disintegrate–and Rosie’s desperate opening outburst edges toward fulfillment. Actually, that’s what she does display, but as she progresses through the intermissionless 85-minutes she’s allotted herself, she has trouble working up sufficient interest in the inhabitants.
Maybe what’s called for here is more information on the characters. As it is, they’re a quintet of sad sacks, with Bill not only sad but–unable to practice dentistry as a result of some misdemeanor–also dangerous. This is clear, of course, from the early glimpse of him in the soiled shirt.
What involvement there is in the exercise is Robert Falls’s vigorous direction of the actors–four of whom are already known as more than reliable–and one of whom, newcomer Brett, gives unquestionable signs of making herself welcome in the manner of previous stage performers like Peggy Ann Garner, Phyllis Love and Sandy Dennis.
Well-known trivia: Harris and Madigan are married, and, from the evidence they’ve given by working together frequently, have to be a much happier couple than the Perches Bill and Susan. It’d be interesting, don’t you think?, to eavesdrop on Harris and Madigan discussing the challenges of taking on Bill’s and Susan’s sorrows.

Be advised that Jack Plotnick and the always risible Seth Rudetsky have joined a series of 1970s chart-toppers into a send up of that decade’s disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure. They’ve called it–what else?–Disaster!.
And yes, camp followers, it’s mighty entertaining. The plot–really an excuse to get a crowd of terrific singers to reprise a tidal wave of golden oldies–involves the opening night of the Barracuda casino on a ship moored to a dock that happens to be floating over shifting tectonic plates. You guessed it: There’s a humongous quake, after which some characters survive (the young lovers, natch) and some don’t (the villainous ship’s captain, natch).
Rudetsky and Plotnick–please don’t call the cruiser-tuner a rude/plot–probably could have trimmed their fandango, rather than suggest they want to include every ’70s click ever written. Only for starters, the ditties run to “Alone Again, Naturally,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Hot Stuff,” “Knock on Wood” and “Knock Three Times.” Often, for maximized amusement, Rudetsky and Plotnik pun on the song titles or play on the lyrics.
Then, of course, and under Plotnick’s direction (Rudetsky plays a disaster expert, whatever that is), there are those top-drawer belters. Undoubtedly all of them voice-maven Rudetsky’s chums, they are, among others, the great Mary Testa, the great Jennifer Simard, hot newcomer Matt Farcher, Haven Burton, Charity Dawson, John Treacy Eagan, Michele Ragusa and young Jonah Vernon as identical fraternal twins. (Remember this is fiction.) It should go without saying that every one of the singing comics makes it all worthwhile.
With that large cast in the relatively small St. Luke’s auditorium, Disaster! may look as if it’s been produced for $ 1.99 (his it been?), but it plays as if it’s titanic, if not Titanic.
