Exclusive: Elsa Hosk to Unveil Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s Swarovski Look

The 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set to be an even shinier and more extravagant spectacle than ever before. Not only is the brand jet-setting to Shanghai for the November show, it’s also celebrating the 15-year “Crystal Anniversary” of its partnership with Swarovski, the sole provider of crystal embellishments for the show. One million Swarovski crystals will take the runway, with Victoria’s Secret Angel Elsa Hosk chosen to strut the special anniversary showpiece.
“This year’s Swarovski outfit is probably our most spectacular. The outfit has an incredible wing that is completely covered in brilliant multicolored stones,” said Monica Mitro, executive vice president, brand communications and events at Victoria’s Secret. “It is one of the heaviest wings we have ever made.” With more than 275,000 crystals, 200 yards of woven ribbon and pavé crystals, hand-beaded jewelry and a crystallized wing harness, the wings weigh in at 14 pounds. “The Swarovski anniversary look will be a major standout. It is an explosion of color,” Mitro continued of Parisian couturier Serkan Cura’s work. And stunning it is, with an astonishing 29 crystal effects and colors, ranging from Citrine Shimmer and Crystal Luminous Green to Fireopals, Topaz and Emeralds. The look includes a fiery-red

Sweden’s Princess Estelle Shows Off Her Somersaults in Sweet New Video with Dad

Princess Estelle can somersault — and so can her dad!

The 5-year-old princess, who is second-in-line to the Swedish throne, showed off her skills in a sweet new video with her father, Prince Daniel. The Swedish-language clip starts with Daniel talking about Generation Pep, or Gen-Pep, a non-profit he founded with his wife, Crown Princess Victoria, that aims to “spread knowledge and engage both people and organizations in a joint effort to make it easier for children and young people to live a healthy life.”

At the video’s 30-second mark Estelle appears, looking gymnastics-ready in leggings and a sweatshirt. The two briefly chat before she goes to show her dad one of her somersaults. Not to be outdone, Daniel — who met his royal wife while working as a personal trainer — then does a somersault of his own. The video ends with the two chasing each other around the yard, with Daniel eventually picking Estelle up and swinging her around.

It’s been an exciting few months for the Swedish royal family. Victoria’s brother and Estelle’s uncle, Prince Carl Philip, and his wife, Princess Sofia, welcomed their second son, Prince Gabriel, on Aug. 31. Just four days before, Princess Madeleine announced that she’s expecting her third child.

The Hangover star has previously claimed that cutting out alcohol helped him lose weight.

“I stopped drinking and I just kind of put the weight off,” he said during a 2013 appearance on Conan O’Brien’s late night show. “I was having a lot of vodka with sausage…delicious but bad for you.”

He added, “I was getting into too much trouble with the drinking, so I just kind of stopped.”

Galifianakis also had some fun with the observation over the years, telling E! News in 2014 that the weight loss was due to him “dying” and joking that his suit jacket was a “ladies 50.”

What to Watch: Are Separate Men’s Fashion Shows a Dying Breed?

The men’s fashion calendar is in a state of flux.
The rise of the co-ed show, where major designers are opting to show their men’s wear during the traditional February and September women’s dates, is seriously impinging on the men’s market.
Probably the hardest hit this past season was Milan Men’s Fashion Week, following the decisions by Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Missoni and Etro to go co-ed.
London was also impacted. The big names — including Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford and Moschino — all decided to show in different cities or formats, while a number of smaller calendar stalwarts were absent, too, including Sibling, which went into voluntary liquidation earlier this year; Agi & Sam, which is restrategizing, and Casely-Hayford, which is switching its focus to retail.
One bright spot on the European circuit was Pitti Uomo, the international trade show in Florence. The most recent edition in June found a calendar chock-full of shows and presentations that included J.W. Anderson and Off-White events along with special guests such as Hugo Boss, Christian Louboutin, Federico Curradi and Alanui.
Paris seemed to hold its own the best, with a bevy of new names added to the spring calendar to join the big guns: Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten,

Upbeat Vibes Abound at Vegas Men’s Shows

LAS VEGAS — While business conditions remain challenging, the retailers who have survived are upbeat about the future.
But the rules have changed. To lure customers away from their computers and into stores, merchants are being creative — installing pop-up shops, giving their stores a facelift and shifting their mix to inject a much-needed shot of color and comfort.
Although traffic seemed a bit off at the men’s shows here this week, the department and specialty stores who did make the trek to Las Vegas to shop Project, Liberty Fairs, Capsule, Agenda and the PGA Show found a vast assortment of colorful sportswear and clothing for spring, much of it boasting performance features.
At the Doneger Group’s spring men’s overview on the opening day of the shows, Patty Leto, senior vice president of merchandising, said, “The retail landscape is changing at an unprecedented rate” and merchants need to embrace those changes by “thinking out-of-the-box.” Today’s customer is time-poor and experience-hungry, she said, and searching for newness — and it’s up to stores to fulfill those needs.
For spring, the key opportunities center around offering diverse wardrobe options with a distinctly casual bent. Tim Bess, Doneger’s fashion trend analyst, said key pieces include utility bottoms

Beyoncé Shows Off Her Moves at Rollerskating Rink While JAY-Z Reportedly Sits on the Sidelines

Beyoncé and JAY-Z were spotted at the World on Wheels skating rink in Venice, California with friends, just before midnight on Friday.

Fans on Instagram posted footage of the singer showing off her “Crazy” moves on the rink while TMZ claims that her husband sat on the sidelines.

Wearing tight ripped jeans, a black shirt and black cap, Beyoncé — who just welcomed twins Rumi and son Sir seven weeks ago — blended into the crowd on her wheels.

Early Sunday morning, Beyoncé shared an edited compilation video from the rink, showing the singer dancing on skates, sharing a shot of her rings and hand tattoos and playing around with Snapchat filters.

The superstar couple was also spotted at a local sushi joint on Wednesday — with a source telling PEOPLE that since raw fish was prohibited during her pregnancy, JAY-Z and Beyoncé made it a point to dine at their “longtime favorite” restaurant, Sushi Park.

“They have been many times in the past,” the source continues. “Both of them love great sushi. They had a date night without the kids.”

Beyoncé shared some moments from the sushi date on Instagram— including a photo of herself enjoying a glass of red wine.

Independents Upbeat at New York Men’s Trade Shows

NEW YORK — Retailers at the men’s trade shows here this week had one primary category on their minds: sportswear.
Gone are the days when buyers scoured the fairs for new tailored clothing labels. As stores, particularly independents, continue to battle a disinterested consumer, macroeconomic factors and the growing power of Amazon, executives were mainly looking to pick up new casualwear brands to complement their existing offerings.
The good news is that the formula seems to be working: Most independents interviewed said business has picked up slightly and they’re keeping their fingers crossed the trend will continue.
Ken Giddon, president of New York’s Rothmans, noted that thanks to a successful pop-up with Psycho Bunny — “our best pop-up ever” — the store had “a really good June.”
“We’re flexible enough to keep bobbing and weaving,” he added.
For the men’s specialty store, that means de-emphasizing tailored clothing and keeping customers interested by featuring a rotating series of pop-up shops. “It’s part of our model now,” Giddon said. “It works to always have something fresh.”
He said “tailored clothing is becoming a smaller part of the business, but we’re growing other parts,” especially sportswear. He especially liked Stitch Note’s short-sleeve wovens, Benson and Rodd & Gunn’s sportswear,

Buyers Seek Standouts With Identity at Paris Men’s Trade Shows

PARIS — It was all about having a strong identity at the recent spring 2018 men’s trade shows here. Homespun, cultural references, vintage and surf styles and streetwear were selling well, with buyers seeking standout items and new discoveries to complement their core designer offering and differentiate themselves, rather than seeking out specific trends.
“Trends are hard to build a business around these days,” observed Chris Thomas, director of retail for Melbourne, Australia’s Service Denim Stores. “We’re looking for accessories to accentuate our core offer that have a point of uniqueness in the Australian market,” he said. “The ability to be unisex is important, too.”
Indeed, more and more brands were showing what they described as “unisex” collections as the trend for outsize gender-neutral garments continues to gain traction. Labels that tapped into heritage styles and techniques, especially from Japan and France, were also popular, as were new takes on performance wear.
Brands showing at Tranoï, Man and Capsule, held over the weekend during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, said foot traffic had been relatively slow, although key buyers had walked through, with a strong presence from Asian, especially Japan, and U.K.-based retailers.

Ariana Grande Shows Her Support For Victims Of London Attack

Ariana Grande showed her support for London on Saturday night after two possible terror attacks left at least six people dead in the city.

The singer’s message, sent on Twitter, was simple: “Praying for London ♡”

Police are investigating after suspects plowed a van into a group of pedestrians on the London Bridge, then fled the vehicle and began stabbing people in a restaurant at the nearby Borough Market. At least six people were killed in the attacks and at least 30 were hospitalized.

The violence in London struck less than two weeks after a deadly terrorist attack hit Manchester Arena, where Grande had just performed. A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive outside of the concert, killing 22 people ― many of whom were children.

Grande tweeted shortly after the Manchester attack that she was “broken” over the violence that followed her concert.

“From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don’t have words,” she wrote.

The pop star announced days later that she would host a One Love Manchester benefit concert featuring an all-star lineup including herself, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Coldplay and Pharrell Williams.

The concert sold out in less than six minutes. It is still scheduled to run at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday.

Vladimir Putin Shows Off His Musical Skills On A Piano In China

We’re guessing he didn’t take requests.

Russian President Vladimir Putin showed off his piano skills in Beijing Sunday, playing a few tunes while waiting for Chinese President Xi Jinping at a state guesthouse, The New York Times reported.

Putin tickled the ivories with a pair of 1950s, Soviet-era tunes, Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi’s “Evening Song” and Tikhon Khrennikov’s “Moscow Windows,” the Times noted.

He’s played the piano before in public ― and his performance shouldn’t be too surprising. The Russian leader isn’t shy about displaying himself as a macho renaissance man, also participating in judo, ice hockey and horseback riding ― the latter sometimes shirtless.

Putin was in Beijing to discuss a $ 1 billion economic plan called “One Belt, One Road” that is intended to benefit dozens of countries, according to news outlets.

Twitter was amused by the president’s performance.

Jimmy Kimmel Shows Trumpcare Supporters Don’t Know A Lot About Trumpcare

It’s a good thing these people are into Trumpcare. They’re gonna need it after Jimmy Kimmel left them burned.

Health care has been a hot topic on Kimmel’s show recently, and it was a focus again with the House of Representatives passing the American Health Care Act, which many have been calling Trumpcare for short.

To address this, Kimmel sent his crew out to find people who are Trump supporters. After finding these people, the crew made up a bunch of awful-sounding provisions in Trumpcare to see what supporters would say.

Unsurprisingly, they’re into it. From veterinarians performing surgeries on people to Uber drivers taking people to hospitals, they’re all for it.

All we gotta say is if an Uber driver is taking us to the hospital, they better have a 5-star rating.

Liberty, Capsule to Move Men’s Shows to Javits in July

Liberty Fairs and Capsule Show are on the move — at least for a little while.
The trade shows were unable to secure their usual location at Pier 94 for the spring men’s wear shows in July and will move to the Jacob Javits Convention Center where Project and MRket will also be holding their shows.
However, Liberty and Capsule said the move is temporary and they will be back at Pier 94 for the January 2018 editions of their shows.
“No matter where we travel, our vision remains the same — create enjoyable and memorable experiences for brands, retailers and editors,” said Sam Ben-Avraham, founder of Liberty Fairs. “I am excited for attendees to make long-lasting connections at The Javits and another successful season. To me, the venue itself is less important than the connections and experiences happening inside and I look forward to channeling our unique vision through a new location.”
Deirdre Maloney, cofounder of Capsule, added: “Colocating with Liberty has been great for the market. But this summer with our shows and the UBM shows all at Javits, we expect buyers will be in paradise.”
Capsule joined Liberty at Pier 94 for the first time in January of 2016, leaving its former home

Bonpoint’s Christine Innamorato Shows New Yorkers Mon Premier Diamant, Ramps Up E-commerce

Guests at a rooftop dinner at the Gramercy Hotel were among the first in New York to glimpse Bonpoint’s Mon Premier Diamant line.
Still a few weeks away from arriving in the Madison Avenue store, the My First Diamond line features intricate bracelets with barely there baguette-cut diamonds on a pink gold bracelet or silk ribbon.
While Gucci Westman, Rickie De Sole, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Elizabeth Manice, Charlotte Santo Domingo, Kate Davidson Hudson, Jane Keltner de Valle and others arrived at Gramercy Terrace, Bonpoint’s artistic director Christine Innamorato chatted about the delicate jewelry designed with Neva Oslo. The bracelets feature all the letters of the alphabet so that mothers can choose the initials of their children. She said the silk bands are meant to symbolize the link between the mother and child.
In response to interest among shoppers in Canada requesting the brand, Bonpoint is looking for stores in Toronto and Vancouver. Las Vegas and Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza are being considered for store openings, though another West Coast port-of-call, San Francisco, has been challenging in terms of available real estate. By 2020, the company aims to open three more stores, Innamorato said. In the meantime, the immediate focus is expediting e-commerce

‘The Daily Show’s’ Hasan Minhaj To Headline White House Correspondents Dinner

Comedian and “Daily Show” senior correspondent Hasan Minhaj will headline the 2017 White House Correspondents Association dinner, an annual Washington gala being held this year amid President Donald Trump’s persistent attacks on the press.

Trump has said he will not attend the April 29 event, which would make him the first sitting president in over three decades to skip the dinner. No members of Trump’s White House staff are expected to attend either, the first time that’s occurred since the annual dinner began nearly a century ago.

Still, the show must go on. Speaking Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” WHCA president Jeff Mason announced Minhaj as the headliner, saying that he “brings comedy chops, but he also brings heart ― and I think that we’re going to see that at this dinner.”

“He’s going to make some jokes, no doubt, about the press and probably about the president,” said Mason, who is also a Reuters correspondent. “But he’s also going to bring the message that we hope to get across that night. And that is: The First Amendment is critical and the work of the press corps and the journalists around the world is very important.”

Mason has stressed that this year’s dinner will focus especially on the journalists who cover the White House each day, some of whom might not have gotten into previous star-studded dinners where news organizations stacked tables with celebrities

This year’s dinner is striking a more earnest tone, which reflects the renewed sense of mission among journalists in the Trump era. CNN, for example, is inviting journalism students rather than Hollywood stars, and some of the weekend’s traditional glitzy parties, thrown by the likes of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, have been canceled. Legendary Watergate reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein will take the stage to hand out journalism awards.

Though Mason said Minhaj’s role will not be to “roast the president in absentia,” the so-called “Muslim correspondent” has not been shy about taking on Trump, especially when it comes to his anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Following Trump’s victory in November, Minhaj said he’d viewed the candidate’s December 2015 call to temporarily block Muslims from entering the United States as “instantly disqualifying,” and argued that “open racism should just be a deal-breaker.”

In January, Minhaj ripped Trump’s travel ban on seven majority-Muslim countries, along with the Republicans and commentators who said during the campaign that a ban on Muslims wouldn’t actually happen if Trump were elected.

“What the fuck?” he said. “So we ARE getting banned?”

In a statement Tuesday, Minhaj said “it is a tremendous honor to be a part of such a historic event even though the president has chosen not to attend this year. SAD!”

“Now more than ever,” he continued, “it is vital that we honor the First Amendment and the freedom of the press.”

Beyoncé may be rocking a growing baby bump, but she still knows how to pull off a photo shoot.

The 35-year-old singer, who announced in early February that she is expecting twins, treated fans to a series of Instagram photos showing off her growing belly. Beyoncé wore a form-fitting, long-sleeved purple gown for the occasion, showing off her look in a quirky video set to The Isley Brothers’ song “Pop That Thang.”

In another set of photos, Beyoncé flaunted her accessories, including shots of her sparkling earrings, wedge heels and blue ring.

Her daughter Blue Ivy, 5, also got in on the action. In one snap, the first child of Beyoncé and Jay Z gives her mom a hug, laying her head on her mother’s bump.

Jay Z also made an appearance, standing next to his wife of nine years in a black and white photo.

Beyoncé hasn’t been shy about flaunting her pregnancy style. She and her husband took Blue Ivy to the Beauty and the Beast world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California and the mother-daughter duo were a sight that any Disney Princess would approve of, dressed in coordinating green duds for the event.

FROM COINAGE: 7 Most Expensive Music Videos

The singer also shared photos from the night she accompanied mom Tina Lawson to a performance by the Alvin Ailey dance company. In addition to posing in her pink trench coat and gold heels, she shared a video of a silly Snapchat session with her daughter.

Beyoncé has yet to reveal the sex of her twins, but fans have been buzzing about the possibility that she’s expecting two boys.

Beyhive members noted the expecting mom wore the same earrings she wore in her 2008 music video for “If I Were A Boy” in her glamorous baby bump photos shared on her website, leading many to speculate Bey was once again trying to tell us something.

Others speculate she’s expecting a boy and a girl, looking at her pregnancy announcement from Feb. 1 for clues. In the photo, internet sleuths point to a small pink bow on her scalloped embroidered tulle Agent Provocateur bra — which could indicate that one of Bey’s babies is a girl — and her powder blue Dauphine panty bottoms by Liviara — which could suggest that the other baby is a boy.

Jimmy Kimmel Shows Backstage Security Footage of ‘What Happened With the Envelope’ at Oscars

The now-infamous ending of Sunday’s Academy Awards — in which Bonnie and Clyde costars Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner instead of Moonlight, the actual victor — had everyone on both sides of the screen scrambling to figure out what had happened.

But while the Academy has placed blame on PricewaterhouseCoopers and their accountant, the show’s host Jimmy Kimmel is jokingly pointing fingers at someone else for the error: his security guard, Guillermo Rodriguez.

In the cold opening to Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 49-year-old comedian showed security footage of what really went down backstage during what is now being called “envelopegate.”

According to the segment, titled “Here’s What Happened with the Envelope,” it appears Rodriguez was indulging on the Junior Mints handed out by Kimmel during the show and needed a napkin to wipe his mouth. Not realize what he was grabbing, he used the Best Picture envelope and then tossed it aside before drinking from a large bottle of tequila.

Check out PEOPLE’s full 2017 Academy Awards coverage and complete winners list!

Of course, the whole clip was just a joke. Later in the show, Kimmel explained what he saw happen during the Hollywood Who-Done-It, and reassured viewers that the mix-up was not a hoax.

“As I walked offstage, people started to speculate that maybe I was pulling a prank. Which, trust me, if I had pulled a prank in that situation, I wouldn’t have just had the wrong winner’s name in the envelope when they opened it. There would have been a Bed Bath & Beyond coupon inside. It was not a prank,” he said.

RELATED VIDEO: Moonlight Wins Best Picture

“And by the way, the producers of La La Land were very gracious, on stage and off,” Kimmel continued. “They handled it very well. It was a very amicable custody arrangement. They didn’t even ask for visitation or anything.”

After the show, Kimmel said he met up with Beatty in the green room to collect more intel because “when you do a show like this, you aren’t just the host, you’re also the lead detective, the sheriff of the show.”

“For whatever reason, they have two of each envelope,” Kimmel said. “There’s a regular envelope and a backup envelope, just to make it more confusing. The accountants gave Warren the wrong card, and they apologized for it today. So it wasn’t Warren Beatty’s fault. And Faye Dunaway, she made quite a getaway.  She read the wrong name and split. She got the hell out of there.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weekdays at 11:35 a.m. ET on ABC.

Skies Slowly Brightening for Retailers Shopping Las Vegas Men’s Shows

LAS VEGAS — The fourth quarter wasn’t pretty for most retailers. Pre- and post-election angst, unrelenting price promotions, pressure from aggressive online players and a distracted consumer all contributed to a rough end to 2016.
But retailers aren’t about to roll over. To fight back, they’re scouring the market for new brands and hot trends that will move the needle. They’ve also learned that it’s not just about offering men the latest in ath-leisure or technical tailored clothing. Today’s customer is seeking unique experiences and merchandise with an authentic story that will allow them to create their own unique style — and make a statement.
Trade show operators are also shifting their focus in the face of this new reality.
Case in point: Aaron Levant, founder of Agenda, upped the ante on experiences at his trade show this season by featuring more cash-and-carry than ever before — Generation Cool, a vintage store based in Tucson, Ariz., set up a lively booth for shoppers. Levant also created an area where brands, some that don’t wholesale, were able to design their own booth. The space felt more like an art fair than a trade show.
“It’s about experiences and community,” said Levant, who last year helped

Ariel Winter Shows a Lot of Skin in a Leotard and Sheer Skirt on the Red Carpet

As hard as it is to believe, Modern Family has been entertaining the masses for the past eight years and because of that we’ve all seen Ariel Winter transform before our very eyes from a lovable 11-year-old know-it-all into a full-grown, confident woman. And with her newly established adulthood has also come a markedly different approach to red carpet dressing consisting of a lot of sheer illusion panels, a lot of body hugging silhouettes and even more sparkle. Her latest ensemble was no exception, consisting of little more than a bodysuit covered up with a sheer skirt.

The actress attend the Vanity Fair and L’Oréal Paris “Toast to Young Hollywood” event in West Hollywood on Tuesday night, walking the red carpet in what most women who don’t boast Winter’s fearless levels of body confidence would consider perfect beach attire. Her ensemble consisted of a black one-piece with a criss-cross halter neckline and a cutout at her midriff, completed with what appears to be a sheer lace sarong knotted at her waist and a pair of stilettos.

RELATED PHOTOS: Ariel Winter Calls Out Her Body Shamers: ‘I Love My Bullies for What They Truly NEED Is Love’

Prior to showing up to the event, the actress teased her fans on Snapchat, posting one filtered photo with her eyes and lips blown out to huge proportions, over which she sassily wrote, “Got some surgery before tonight guys.”

In another snap, Ariel mysteriously wrote “Maybe I have long hair tonight…maybe I don’t…” as she gazes into the camera with the bunny filter over her face and the ears partially obscuring her hair. But whether she cuts her hair in a lob or wears it to her waist, shows up in the same outfit as Kylie Jenner or cosplays in a full-blown sexy Santa costume, one thing’s for sure, Winter is always full of sartorial surprises.

What do you think of Ariel’s latest red carpet look? Would you be brave enough to wear it? Sound off below!

North West Shows Off Designs For The Upcoming Yeezy Kid’s Line

While you were binge watching The Crown and lamenting the state of our world, North West was apparently busy becoming the world’s tiniest fashion designer.

According to Kim Kardashian’s snapchat posts yesterday, the long-awaited Yeezy kid’s line is on the way from Kanye West.

And it should come as a shock to no one that 3-year-old North, who has long rocked mini versions of Yeezy clothes, helped design it.

North is seen wearing an adorable sequined yellow dress and a matching shearling coat, while Kardashian can be heard asking, “Is that a Yeezy yellow shearling?” and “Hey, where’s our model?”

“Mommy and daddy are doing a kid’s line and these are some of the pieces,” Kardashian says in one clip. “Northie picked out the colors and the fabric.”

Wait. Hold on a second. Picked out the colors and the fabric? For the Kim and Kanye clothing line? We just stopped obsessing over brother Saint’s teeny tiny Yeezy 350s. Now we have to wrap our minds around the fact that this line, which we’ve been waiting for for what feels like forever, was designed in part by our favorite micro style icon? It’s almost too much to handle.

So far, no launch date has been given. But as this tweet shows, there’s no stopping the excitement of fans.

Buyers Upbeat at Paris Men’s Trade Shows

PARIS — With Japanese buyers back in force, a positive energy pulsed through the men’s trade fairs, Capsule, Man and Tranoi, held here in tandem with the men’s runway shows. While spends were flat on-year, buyers’ moods were upbeat.
“This is a good time in men’s wear,” said Wanda Colon, chief merchandising officer at Unkwn, an urban concept store targeting Florida’s 18-25 set.
“This show [Capsule] is a good integration of what’s happening in fashion now – a mix of very high with accessible, what big box stores are trying to do,” she continued. “To cultivate this youthful feeling, not necessarily young, but savvy, very active on social media. A lot of brand energy right now is coming from that. And stores are chasing these young, alternative independents because they’ve seen the energy and buying power of this customer.”
Trading on the youth influence as a launchpad, Capsule showed four labels voted into the show by followers of Highsnobiety.com. Tranoi curated Atelier, a space for young designers, at its inaugural Carreau de Temple show.
Wish-listing “craftsmanship, innovation and scarcity” for Magasin, the men’s concept store which opened in Los Angeles last March, Josh Peskowitz singled out ongoing proportion play, an outdoors direction and layering,

Harumi Klossowska de Rola Shows Her Designs in Paris

ALL THAT GLITTERS: While she moves on the sidelines of the fashion world and counts Haider Ackermann among her close friends, artist and jewelry designer Harumi Klossowska de Rola is rarely in the limelight.
That is exactly where she was to be found Sunday evening, however, with the opening of an exhibition of her work at the Van Cleef & Arpels-supported jewelry school just off Paris’ Place Vendôme.
As well as her animal-themed fine jewelry, the exhibition includes objects ranging from sculpted bronze lamps to a four-panel screen hand-covered in gold leaf and painted with a lion.
The eclectic crowd of guests at the event included Kylie Minogue, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Christian Louboutin, Elie Top, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
The daughter of the late artist Balthus and painter Setsuko Klossowska de Rola was asked by Van Cleef & Arpels to create an exhibition of her one-off jewelry pieces, and she chose to also show her sculptural work in order to highlight the bridges between fine art and jewelry.
“I would love to study at the school, there is so much I could learn here,” said Klossowska de Rola, who has no formal training in jewelry but has in the past collaborated with Chopard as well

Porter Classic Shows Off Indigo Cool at Paris Men’s Week

PARIS — Porter Classic has set up shop in Isetan Mitsukoshi’s Japan Store in Paris — showing and selling its garments for the first time outside Asia.
The brand, which was founded in 2007 by designer Katsuyuki Yoshida and his son Leo, is known for its use of traditional Japanese stitching techniques to create textured indigo garments.
The company has stocked the pop-up shop with a representative selection of indigo staples from its PC Classics line including stitched indigo jackets, pants and patchwork accessories in relaxed, contemporary cuts.
Garments made using the sashiko stitching technique feature a rippled texture. The kendo stitch — borrowed from Japanese boxing gear —is visually smoother but still adds a coarse contrast to the supple indigo when touched.
The brand is also showing a selection of special edition patchwork blazers made with vintage swatches from the designer’s collection.
The designer discovered the patched sashiko fabrics in a museum in northern Japan. “My father was touched by the way the material had been kept for and cared for over generations,” said Leo Yoshida at the pop-up’s opening reception Wednesday. “The fabric comes from farmers, and from moms who would sew things back together when they tore.”

Eva Mendes Shows Ryan Gosling Some Love After Sweet Golden Globes Speech

Eva Mendes might have skipped the 2017 Golden Globes, but her presence was certainly felt during Ryan Gosling’s touching acceptance speech.

The “La La Land” actor, who picked up his first Golden Globe on Sunday, declared his love for his “lady” at the awards ceremony. Now, Mendes, who typically shies away from publicly discussing her relationship with Gosling, has addressed the buzzy Globes moment in a short and sweet Instagram post.

On Monday, the actress shared a photo of Janelle Monae’s out-of-this-world look on the red carpet, subtly saving her appreciation for Gosling in the caption.

“Obviously this wasn’t my favorite moment of the night,” she began.

“But it was definitely my favorite style moment of the night. The stunning and talented [Monae] is killing me with this look,” Mendes continued.

Gosling spent his acceptance speech singing Mendes’ praises and thanking her for taking care of their two children, Amada and Esmeralda, while he filmed “La La Land” with co-star Emma Stone, who also picked up a Golden Globe that night. He ended his speech by dedicating the award to Mendes’ older brother, Juan Carlos, who died of cancer in April.

“While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” Gosling said at the event.

“If she hadn’t taken all of that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today, so, sweetheart, thank you,” he continued. “To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. If I may, I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.”

The duo, who rarely attend Hollywood events as a couple, have been together for six years, after sparks flew on the set of 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines.”

Whether Mendes will choose to accompany Gosling to the Academy Awards in February ― where he will likely be nominated for his performance in “La La Land” ― remains unknown. But after the Globes, we can’t wait to see more of these two.

A Brief History of Superhero Movies at Awards Shows

As we near the Golden Globes on Sunday, there’s a distinct possibility that Deadpool could change the way awards show season has historically treated comic book movies by walking away with a best musical or comedy Globe.

Comic book movies, despite becoming one of the most dependable genres at the box office over the past decade, haven’t fared as well in the scrum of early-year awards shows. But it’s not all bad! While quite a lot of superhero movies have been nominated for the “technical” awards — makeup, sound, visual effects, art direction, etc — they tend not to fare as well when you get into the acting and directing categories. Let’s take a look at their history, below.

(Again, we’re ignoring the technical categories: Almost every Marvel tentpole from the past few years has been nominated in the visual effects category, and most of the superhero films of the ’90s picked up at least nominations for their technical work.)

Superman

Superman picked up a special visual effects Oscar, but its score — by usual Oscar sure-thing John Williams — failed to connect with the Academy and snag the corresponding trophy.

Dick Tracy

The Academy granted Stephen Sondheim a Best Original Song award for his contribution to Dick Tracy. (We’re including it because it was based on a comic strip and includes numerous not-exactly-realistic elements, even if it might not exactly fit the “superhero” mold.)

Men in Black

Did you guys know Men in Black was based on a comic book? From Marvel, no less? While it won a Best Makeup award for the effects from non-CGI makeup wizard Rick Baker, its score, by Danny Elfman (who also created the distinctive theme for Tim Burton’s original Batman movies) was left in the cold.

The Incredibles

It’s not strictly a “comic book movie,” but it’s definitely a superhero movie. And either way, Pixar’s feature film picked up a statuette for Best Animated Feature at its Academy Awards, so that has to count.

The Dark Knight

Aside from being a titanic performance that rivals Anthony Hopkins-as-Hannibal-Lecter in the “most impact made in shortest amount of screen time” category, Heath Ledger’s turn as the Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar (posthumously, sadly) and legitimized the modern era of comic book films. (It also probably paved the way for DC’s current fixation on all things grim, but that’s neither here nor there.) Ledger also won the equivalent Golden Globe for his performance.

Big Hero 6

Also originating from a Marvel comic, Big Hero 6 picked up an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film of the year in 2014.

The Golden Globe Awards air on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Olivia Culpo Shows Us How to Pull Off 3 Holiday Beauty Looks

Olivia Culpo is the ultimate beauty girl: “I’m such a product junkie—I love to play with everything, and I’m often the one doing my friends’ makeup before we go out,” she admits. The former Miss USA can also pull off just about any makeup look you can think of, thanks to perfect brows, serious cheekbones, and an enviable pout. So with all that in mind, we asked Culpo and makeup artist Tina Turnbow to dream up three dramatic holiday looks to get you inspired this season. Twinkling shadow, rich velvet lips—these looks aren’t shy or subtle, but that’s the point. “It’s a time for celebrating,” adds Culpo, “so you should have fun with your makeup, too.”

MaxMara, Allure Celebrate Shonda Rhimes Shows

Fall, it seems, has turned into and awards season for those behind-the-scenes for television and movies, as InStyle, The Hollywood Reporter, and Variety and WWD have all inaugurated events this year. Allure was the latest to do so, partnering with MaxMara on Saturday night at its Rodeo Drive store to honor the hair, makeup and wardrobe teams behind Shonda Rhimes’ hit shows. Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Ellen Pompeo, Darby Stanchfield, Liza Weil, Scott Foley and Bellamy Young were among the stars of “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away With Murder” who turned out.
Upon Rhimes’ arrival, Washington danced and chanted, “Shonda, Shonda.”
“Oh, there goes my hairstylist,” said “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Camilla Luddington. “We’re talking about you,” she said, pointing to Melanie Smith.
“Scandal” actress Katie Lowes perhaps picked the wrong time to debut a new hair look.
“I walked in and Shonda was like, ‘What the hell? What did you do?’” she said of her  faux bob. “I was like, ‘No, no, no, I didn’t cut it. I didn’t cut it.’ It’s just tucked up underneath. When you want to go through a major look change you’ve got to talk to Shonda about it for your character.”

Trend-Right Men’s Lines From the Las Vegas Trade Shows

The men’s market is in a relaxed mood.
With sales picking up in the second half and some popular items for fall already emerging, retailers shopping the trade shows in Las Vegas were feeling little stress.
Adding to the optimism were the spring fashion trends of colorful swimwear, comfortable ath-leisurewear and nautical influences in everything from outerwear to accessories. The marriage of function and fashion was also a key market mover, with merchants embracing utilitarian detailing in garments that also sported performance attributes.

“Men’s fashion moves at a glacial pace,” said Patty Leto, senior vice president of merchandising for the Doneger Group. But that pace is quickening as the male consumers’ desire for fashion heats up, she added. Driving the men’s wear acceleration, she said, was the influence of beachwear, ath-leisure and the continued demand for performance.
Key volume drivers for the season, according to the Doneger team, include graphic Ts, printed tank tops, unconstructed sport coats, flat-front shorts, joggers, true activewear and printed swimwear.
Tommy Fazio, president of Project, said the two biggest categories at this market were swimwear and the “whole California lifestyle. Those are the big growth opportunities.”

Celebrating 20 Years, SITE Santa Fe Shows New Commissions and Collaborations

Celebrating 20 Years: SITE Santa Fe’s Collaborative Spirit

A significant anniversary invites a retrospective view, and for SITE Santa Fe’s 20th, the institution is doing just that, in a yearlong series of exhibitions featuring artists who have presented major works at SITE in the past. But for this 20th-anniversary celebration, SITE is not only looking back at its own history, or reprising past projects, rather refreshingly the exhibits that comprise “SITE 20 Years/20 Shows” take the form of new work, commissions, and collaborations.

Ann Hamilton, The common SENSE (detail), 2014-2015. Courtesy of the artist.

SITE Santa Fe opened in 1995 with its first International Biennial: Longing and Belonging: From the Faraway Nearby, curated by Bruce Ferguson, and has since produced eight biennials, and over 80 exhibitions, helping to launch or galvanize the careers of numerous curators and artists. The notion of reconnecting with artists who have contributed to the institution’s history, taking a look at then and now, exemplifies SITE’s mission to form strong bonds with the international art community while cultivating deep roots within the community of Santa Fe and the wider Southwest region.

Amy Cutler, Cautionary Trail, 2005. Courtesy of the artist and Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects, New York.

Presented in three installments, over spring, summer and fall, “SITE 20 Years/20 Shows” first opened in March with work by Gregory Crewdson, Deborah Grant, Roxy Paine, Mary Reid Kelley with Patrick Kelley, Rose B. Simpson, and Jessica Stockholder. The fall installment, opening October 23, will feature installations by Terry Allen, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Wangechi Mutu with Edgar Arceneaux, and Susan Silton with The Crowing Hens. The summer exhibition of “SITE 20 Years/20 Shows” is currently on view, until October 4, with installations and collaborations by Ann Hamilton, Janine Antoni with choreographer Stephen Petronio, Amy Cutler with musician Emily Wells and hairdresser Adriana Papaleo, Harmony Hammond with artist Francis Cape, and Dario Robleto with historian Patrick Feaster and Lance Ledbetter of Dust-to-Digital Records. While the wall texts throughout the show acknowledge the contributions of each of the artists to SITE Santa Fe’s exhibitions of the past–Ann Hamilton, for instance, showed in the first Biennial and Janine Antoni showed a major solo show at SITE in 2002–the focus rests on the artists’ current practices.

Dario Robleto, The Pulse Armed With a Pen (An Unknown History of the Human Heartbeat), 2014. Courtesy the artist and Inman Gallery, Houston. Photo: Paul Hester, The Menil Collection.

The installations in the current configuration of “SITE 20 Years/20 Shows” exhibit few connections between them, with each occupying its own discrete room in the gallery. But if there is one conceptual thread running throughout, it is the notion of collaboration–collaboration among artists, between artists and institutions, artists and choreographers, musicians, historians, and so on. A successful collaborative effort can achieve results that a single artist couldn’t produce on her own, a kind of synergistic effect that provides new contexts and new meanings to an artist’s work. In an unsuccessful collaboration, on the other hand, compromises become more apparent than cooperation, resulting in a situation where one person’s vision might supersede another to the detriment of the whole artwork. The wide range of artistic collaboration, both successful and unsuccessful, can be found in SITE Santa Fe’s current exhibition.

Janine Antoni and Stephen Petronio, Honey Baby, 2013. Copyright Janine Antoni and Stephen Petronio; Courtesy of the artists and Luhring Augustine, New York.

Janine Antoni’s collaboration with the choreographer Stephen Petronio, for instance, sheds new light on Antoni’s practice with regard to the grotesque and expressive potential of the human body–in this case a male dancer’s lithe form, emulating the movements of the body in utero–in a somewhat disturbing but entrancing video. And Dario Robleto’s collaboration with sound historians Patrick Feaster and Lance Ledbetter results in a series of small vinyl albums–recordings of the human heart and early gospel spirituals–with extensive liner notes that convey a historical depth and artistic sensibility (despite the somewhat twee aesthetic), enhancing our apprehension of these early recordings visually, textually, and sonically.

Harmony Hammond and Francis Cape, Angle of Repose, 2015, installation view. Courtesy of the artists and SITE Santa Fe. Photo: Eric Swanson.

The collaborative installation by painter Harmony Hammond and sculptor Francis Cape, Angle of Repose (2015), on the other hand, is less apparent as a collaboration at all. Comprised of one of Hammond’s layered monochrome paintings leaning against a wall and a collection of re-made handcrafted furniture by Cape, the two works are somewhat independent of each other, but their proximity yields a new conversation between the works. Their pairing seems more like a very astute curatorial choice, rather than a true collaboration that results in one unified work.

Amy Cutler, installation view, 2015. Courtesy of the artist and SITE Santa Fe. Photo: Eric Swanson.

While Hammond and Cape’s collaboration demonstrates restraint and subtlety, Amy Cutler’s installation commits the sin of sensorial overload. Created with musician Emily Wells and hairdresser Adriana Papaleo, the installation sets out to devise a three-dimensional version of one of Cutler’s surreal paintings. Braided hair intertwined between aspen logs that form a primitive hut in the center of the gallery, lit from within, houses bundled lumps of more hair. An eerie soundtrack of breathing permeates the dark atmosphere. The ambience is meticulously crafted, but the literalness of such a proposal deprives the viewer of the sense of imagination and wonderment one can experience in the scenes of Cutler’s strange and richly detailed paintings.

Ann Hamilton, The common SENSE, 2014-2015, installation view, SITE Santa Fe, 2015. Courtesy of the artist. Photo: Eric Swanson.

At turns impressive, delightful, and poignant, Ann Hamilton’s installation is one of the most richly rewarding of the show. Created in cooperation with the University of Washington’s Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture’s Ornithology collection, the common SENSE · the animals (2014-2015) is comprised of digital scans of bird and animal specimens taken from the collection, printed on stacks of newsprint, and presented salon style across the whole room. Invited to tear off sheets of the newsprint and take some of the pictures home, viewers are confronted with the consequences of their impulse to consume–as each sheet is torn away, the installation is lessened, pointing to the ultimate finitude of natural resources. In the wake of the tragedy of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, Hamilton’s installation becomes all the more moving.

Marie Watt, installation view, 2015. Courtesy of the artist and SITE Santa Fe. Photo: Eric Swanson.

The emphasis on collaboration at SITE Santa Fe is not a passing fancy, or just relevant to this particular exhibition, but rather is something that runs deep within the institution’s programming and curatorial mission. This is evidenced in a concurrent exhibition at the museum, Unsuspected Possibilities, supported by a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Artistic Innovation and Collaboration Grant, featuring works by Marie Watt, Leonardo Drew, and Sarah Oppenheimer. Marie Watt’s installation in particular perfectly and beautifully illustrates SITE Santa Fe’s continued commitment to collaborative processes and community engagement. The artist, who is of Iroquois descent, involved local Santa Fe students and community members to help embroider designs on fragments of Pendleton blankets, which were then assembled into magnificent constructions, and hung like an advancing regiment through the gallery space. It’s a breathtaking installation, made all the more impressive knowing the many hands that touched it.

On Sunday night, “True Detective” had one of the most upscale, creepiest orgies shown on the small screen when Rachel McAdams’ Ani went undercover. But that may make you wonder, have there been other orgies depicted on TV shows? Why yes, of course!

There’s goofy orgies, like that “Eyes Wide Shut” spoof from “It’s Always Sunny,” there’s Jerry Seinfeld rambling about how he’s not ready to be “an orgy guy,” and then of course there’s the best, and most diverse, sex-capade in the history of TV orgies in Netflix’s “Sense8.” Check out the very NSFW video to get your orgy fix.

Buzz Aldrin Dances With John Travolta, Shows Off Some Out-Of-This World Moves

When you’ve done the moon walk for real, the last thing you need is dancing lessons. But space legend Buzz Aldrin couldn’t resist picking up a few pointers from actor John Travolta.

The two showed off their smooth moves at an event held Saturday night at Kennedy Space Center in Florida to celebrate the kickoff of the Apollo astronaut’s ShareSpace Foundation, a charity aimed at boosting science literacy in kids by incorporating arts into science education.

“I thought I held my own,” Aldrin wrote on a Facebook post. “What do you think?”

Speaking at the event, which was hosted by actor Seth Green, Travolta praised the Apollo astronaut.

“To be here at the Kennedy Space Center, under a Saturn V rocket with an American hero like Buzz Aldrin, it’s just quite a privilege,” Travolta said, according to Florida Today.

He added:

“To start a nonprofit is probably one of the most selfless things a person can do. There is no personal monetary gain from it, it’s a lot of extra work and effort. It’s not an easy task. But, yet, here’s this legend who’s doing just that.”

Monday is the 46th anniversary of the lunar landing in which Neil Armstrong and Aldrin became the first and second humans, respectively, to set foot on the moon.

Ron Diamond’s Animation Show of Shows Coming to Comic-Con, Getting Ready for Nationwide Debut

Toon fans rejoice! The Animation Show of Shows will soon be coming to a theater near you.

Thanks to a successful Kickstarter, this animation industry favorite will now transition from being an insider-only exclusive to becoming a program that film fans around the world can participate in and enjoy.

2015-07-02-1435865026-7316782-Diamond2.jpg

For those of you who don’t know: The Animation Show of Shows has long been Ron Diamond‘s baby. For the past 16 years, this veteran animation producer has circled the globe seeking out the very best new animated short films. Which sounds like it might be a fun way for a cinema fan to spend their time, but is actually a quite challenging task.

“Just recently, I sat through a screening of over 200 student films. All because I was looking for those one or two short animated films that I might consider adding to the line-up on my next Animation Show of Shows,” Ron explained during a recent phone interview.

And previously — once Diamond has selected all of that year’s animated gems — he’d then truck this feature-length compilation to animation studios like Disney, Pixar and Blue Sky. All with the hope that — by exposing these creatives to what the next generation of animators was up to — he’d then inspire these folks to explore unexpected ideas.”

2015-07-02-1435865079-1292332-Diamond3.jpg

“And while I don’t mean to brag, I think that I’ve got a pretty good eye for this stuff. 29 of the films that I’ve showcased in previous Animation Show of Shows have gone on to get Academy Award nominations. And 9 of those animated short films then went on to win the Oscar,” Ron continued.

But after 16 years of annually assembling this great collection of animated short films which was then meant to educate and inspire industry insiders, Diamond was looking to broaden his horizons. He wanted the general public to now be able to get in on the fun. Which is why Ron set up a not-for-profit organization that would then make it possible to The Animation Show of Shows to expand its mission.

“After all, it’s one thing to show these new animated short films to industry insiders who then might have some knowledge of who these fledgling filmmakers are, the reputations of their teachers and/or their independent work. And it’s an entirely different thing to show these great new animated short films to an audience that’s going in cold. That has absolutely no context when it comes to who these filmmakers are and where the ideas for each of these new animated shorts may have come from,” Diamond stated.

2015-07-02-1435865118-6502741-Diamond1.jpg

That was what really drove Ron to get a Kickstarter campaign going for the Animation Show of Shows. If he was going to transform this showcase of new animated short films into something that members of the general film-going public could genuinely understand and appreciate … Well, that then meant that Diamond would have to craft profiles of the talented individuals who had created these animated short films. And given that Ron prides himself on always putting together a program that represents what is going on internationally in animation that year, that then meant Diamond was going to need to send film crews around the globe to create these contextual pieces that would profile that year’s top animators.

Thanks to the generous pledges of the people who supported Ron’s vision for a more ambitious, broader reaching Animation Show of Shows, those profiles will now be included in Diamond’s next feature-length compilation of the finest animated shorts from around the world. Not only that, but Ron will be using these funds to expand into the field of restoration. Singling out great animated short films from the past that need to be preserved and shared.

By the way, if you’re headed to San Diego next week for the 2015 edition of Comic-Con and want to get a sense of the sort of show that Ron Diamond plans on presenting very soon at a theater near you, the 16th Annual Animation Show of Shows will be presented in Hall H on Friday, July 10th from 10 – 11:30 a.m. Hopefully — as part of the Q & A session that’s supposed to follow this presentation — Diamond will then discuss his plans for this award-winning series of animated short films.

Amy Schumer Shows Why The Internet Needs To Get Over Its Disney Princess Obsession

The Internet is nauseatingly obsessed with Disney princesses, and even more obsessed with imagining them in some altered state. (As Velociraptors, seriously?) While websites love to fixate on things like how characters are animated so that their eyes are bigger than their wrists, or how they would look if they had more realistic waistlines, Amy Schumer’s latest sketch tackles the bigger question of why anyone would want to be a princess at all.

Sure, Disney movies and their characters are sanitized versions of classic fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson, but when all the adventure is said and done, being a princess is actually all about being married off as an underage teenager, and hoping you can produce a male heir.

Besides, everyone knows happily ever after isn’t a real thing.

While websites love to fixate on things like how characters are animated so that their eyes are bigger than their wrists, or how they would look if they had more realistic waistlines, Amy Schumer’s latest sketch tackles the bigger question of why anyone would want to be a princess at all.

Science Shows Wearing High Heels Makes Women Stronger (and Weaker)

High heels have been found to make women both stronger and weaker according to a new study published in The International Journal of Clinical Practice. The subjects, women studying to become flight attendants in South Korea, had heels as part of their classroom uniform, a decision made since the job they were training for would also require similar footwear. Scientists found that those enrolled in their second and third years of the program showed greater muscle strength in the area surrounding the ankle than the incoming freshmen. But oddly, the upward trend stopped abruptly when the women in their senior year of the program were examined.

04-bright-yellow-high-heels-plaid-skirt-street-style

Even though those were the women who had logged the most hours in their heels, they showed weakening of the same muscles that were becoming stronger in the sophomore and junior classmates. Senior, junior, and sophomore students were all found to have worse balance than the newbies.

The lead in the study, Hanseo University exercise physiology professor Jee Yong-Seok, explained that the ratio of strength between areas on the sides of the ankle to that in the front and the back was off in the heel-wearing women. Per The New York Times, that messes with stability and balance and leads to weakening of the same muscles that were initially becoming stronger due to the heels. In turn, ankle issues can cause injuries stemming from other muscle groups in the legs, including your hamstrings.

Happily for stiletto-lovers, the docs the Times chatted to didn’t suggest abandoning heels. Rather, they said to incorporate basic exercises like calf raises and heel drops (stand on the back edge of a stair and slowly let your heel lower dip down as far as it can). If you wear heels at the office, there’s also a benefit to be gained from slipping them off when you’re sitting at your desk since the position feet are put in while wearing a pair can affect the muscles, even when immobile.

The attention paid to Bryce Dallas Howard’s Jurassic World high-heel running scenes makes the study especially interesting. Though, to be fair, Howard said she prepped for all her action with a lot of calf raises.

Oklahoma KFC Shows Sex Scene

An Oklahoma family who went to KFC for dinner was willing to pay good money to see some thighs and breasts. But they didn’t expect to see those parts wiggling in sexual congress.

That’s what happened last Thursday to Gerald and April Whalen when they ate at a KFC in Edmond, Oklahoma with their six-year-old twin boys and saw an explicit sex scene on an overhead TV.

“I was flabbergasted,” Gerald Whalen told KOCO TV. “I looked up from my plate, and we’re talking full nudity.”

In order to avoid arousing the interest of the twins, the parents tried not to react to the kinky footage. That was hard to do because of the moaning and heavy breathing emanating from the screen.

The Whalens initially thought there was a pornographic film on the TV, but it was later identified as merely a sexually explicit scene from the racy Starz show, Outlander, according to UPI.com.

Gerald Whalen filmed the x-rated video with his phone while another customer griped to employees.

“The manager came running out and flipped the TV off really quick,” Gerald Whalen told KDVR. “I think she actually unplugged it.”

The corporate headquarters of the fried chicken giant apologized in a statement to TV station KOCO.

“We apologize for any negative dining experiences. This was an isolated incident, and we are taking measures to ensure programming like this cannot be accessed in the future.”

The KFC location that showed the offending clip has also promised to restrict sure certain channels won’t be able to be accessed again.

Gerald Whalen told News9.com that he hopes no one gets fired job over the unseemly mixup.

Jon Stewart Shows How Weird Rand Paul’s Presidential Announcement Was

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) made his big announcement on Tuesday, telling a crowd in Louisville that he’s running for president in 2016.

But as Jon Stewart pointed out on Tuesday night’s “Daily Show,” it took a while to get there.

Before Paul went onstage, there were multiple speakers, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of the national anthem and several video presentations — including one that featured a clip from “The Daily Show.”

“Thirty minutes into the show, I had said more at this event than the guy who was there to announce his candidacy for president,” Stewart said.

Along with taking forever to get to the announcement, there were a few weird moments, like when former congressman J.C. Watts (R-Okla.) slipped and said Paul would become “the next United States of America,” as well as a very excited young man in the audience.

Check it out in the clip above.

Harry Styles Shows That Being Charitable Is Really ‘What Makes You Beautiful’

Harry Styles can be a pretty amazing guy — and that’s not just because he has fabulous hair.

Though One Direction has been busy performing around the world as part of the “On The Road Again” tour, Styles took time out last week to visit students from the Lalela Project, an organization that provides arts education to at-risk youth in Cape Town, South Africa, according to the group’s Instagram page.

The 21-year-old reportedly just wanted to do some good.

Harry decided to go to the Lalela Project all by himself and he really impressed kids and workers there,” a source told the Sun UK, adding that “Harry could easily have spent extra time at his hotel relaxing but he really wants to give back when the band are traveling the world.”

The source told the Sun that Styles chatted with the students and gave them tickets to the band’s show in the city. While on stage, the singer even wore a Lalela luggage tag during the show, according to the organization’s Facebook page.

Despite his hectic touring life, Styles wanted to pay his dues to initiatives that were helping the people who needed it most, the source said.

“This tour hasn’t been easy for the boys but [Harry] knows their lives are far better than many of their fans’ and kids being helped by projects like this.”

Styles’ visit with the Lalela students was a compassionate move, but the 21-year-old is no stranger to giving back.

Back in 2013, the singer and his bandmate, Liam Payne, participated in a charity date auction, in which fans could bid on an evening out with the two, the Press Association reported. The money from the auction went to go to Trekstock, an organization that supports young people with cancer.

Earlier that year, the band also recorded a cover of Blondie’s “One Way or Another” to support Comic Relief, a charity that works to tackle poverty and social injustice.

Universal Orlando went by the book when creating live shows for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley

When it came to creating authentic live entertainment for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, the folks at Universal Orlando Entertainment really went by the book.

“Which book?,” you ask. “Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secret.” A single sentence from that 1998 J.K. Rowling novel, to be exact. Where — as The Boy Who Lived was exploring “The Burrow” (i.e., the Weasley family home) — Harry noticed that …

… the old radio next to the sink had just announced that coming up was “Witching Hour, with the popular singing sorceress Celestina Warbeck.”

2015-01-29-Celestina3.jpg

And with that one line of text, Universal Entertainment finally found a solution for a challenge that had been plaguing the Diagon Alley project. Which was how to naturalistically add a live entertainment element to this ambitious expansion of Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World.

“Whenever we’re developing new lands for our theme parks, we always look for ways to turn streets into stages. Give our guests the chance to come around a corner and suddenly stumble upon this seemingly spontaneous moment of entertainment,” Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment – Creative Development for Universal Orlando Resort, explained during a recent interview. “That’s why Jake and Elwood regularly roll through Universal Studios Florida in their Bluesmobile. So that the Blues Brothers can then be seen presenting a live street show out on our New York backlot. Or why the Whos carol around Seuss Landing whenever we’re celebrating Grinchmas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.”

But when it came to Diagon Alley, Aiello and the Universal Entertainment team were presented with a unique challenge. Given that this expansion of The Wizarding World was supposed to authentically recreate what had previously been seen in the Harry Potter films and described in J.K. Rowling’s fiction, they were now dealing with a full-scale environment that was going to be so rich & hyper-detailed that it could potentially upstage any attempts at live entertainment.

2015-01-29-Celestina4.jpg

“But once we came across that line in ‘Chamber of Secrets’ which revealed that Molly Weasley was a Celestina Warbeck fan, that was our get-out-of-jail-free card. Here was a character that J.K. herself had dreamed up, this famous singing sorceress. And wouldn’t it make sense that — at some point in her fabled career — that Celestina would drop by Diagon Alley, the place where all of the witches & wizards of London went to do their shopping?,” Aiello continued. “So we took this idea to J.K. And she was so supportive of this idea that she actually provided us with the titles of several songs that Celestina could possibly perform while she was doing a live remote from Diagon Alley for the Wizarding Wireless Network.”

Mind you, once Rowling had provided Aiello and the team with titles like “You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart” and “Beat Back Those Bludgers, Boys, and Chuck That Quaffle Here,” it was then up to Universal Entertainment to turn these Potter-centric concepts into musical numbers that singers could actually perform. Which is why they then turned to Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary, the talented team behind Broadway’s “First Date.”

“And from the moment we told Michael and Alan that J.K. saw Celestina as this Shirley Bassey-like performer who worked with three back-up singers, they immediately knew what to do with the songs for this character,” Patrick Braillard, Diagon Alley’s show director, recalled. “They wrote us these great jazz-fusion numbers that only a true diva like Lena Horne or Bette Midler could pull off. Which is why — when people are wandering around Diagon Alley and then happen upon Celestina performing with her Banshees — they’re completely blown away. This show just knocks their socks off.”

2015-01-29-Celestina2.jpg

Of course, if you’re looking to wow an audience with a seemingly impromptu live show, you first need a proper stage for your performers to appear on. Which is why — as Universal Creative was initially designing Diagon Alley — they deliberately created a corner in Carkitt Market where Celestina and her Banshees could then make a dramatic entrance by coming down this long staircase.

“That space really serves this Wizarding Wireless Network broadcast well. Which is kind of ironic, given that Celestina and her Banshees wasn’t actually the first live show that Universal Entertainment wrote for Diagon Alley,” Aiello said. “We had this concept that we’d originally pitched for Hogsmeade. One where we wanted to establish this troupe of tale tellers who would wander about The Wizarding World and tell Universal Orlando visitors about The Boy Who Lived. But since there were no characters like this in either the Potter books or movies, it just didn’t seem authentic to go ahead with this particular entertainment idea – which is why this creative concept kind of fell off the table for Hogsmeade.”

Ah, but all that changed in 2007 with the publication of “The Tales of Beedle the Bard.” For in the foreword of this collection of Wizarding World fairytales, J.K. revealed that there was a Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts.

2015-01-29-Celestina5.jpg

“And once we came across that reference in ‘Beedle the Bard,’ we were like ‘A-ha! Let’s latch onto that. Let’s figure out how we can expand upon this idea and then somehow make it work for Diagon Alley,’ ” Michael continued. “And in the end, what we decided to do was invent this traveling troupe of players who had trained at the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts who now do street theater. And to then connect this new piece of Diagon Alley entertainment with the book that had inspired it, we decided to have these traveling players perform selected stories from ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard.’ Which is kind of The Wizarding World’s version of Grimm’s Fairytales or Aesop’s Fables.”

What made this particular entertainment concept somewhat hard to pull off was that most Universal Orlando visitors only knew ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard’ from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Which had featured a stylized animated version of one of this book’s stories, “The Tale of the Three Brothers.”

“And since — whenever possible — we want to create some sort of visual continuity between the Harry Potter films and our theme park version of The Wizarding World, we decided to have those visiting members of the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts present a troubadour version of ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’ using puppets that looked just like the animated characters had in Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” Aiello explained. “Thankfully, Michael Currey Design was up to the specific design challenges of this project. They created these terrific-looking, lightweight, hand sculpted puppets that the performers could just pull out of a trunk and then manipulate right there in front of the audience.”

2015-01-29-Celestina6.jpg

And to insure that this group of traveling players would have then a selection of tales to tell whenever they next appeared in Diagon Alley, Universal Entertainment decided to turn another story from “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” into a piece of street theater. And this performance piece — “The Fountain of Fair Fortune” — also features some beautifully-detailed, Michael Curry-designed puppets.

“This is what we’ve tried to do with the entire Wizarding World project. Find these kernels of content that J.K. has written that we can then expand in full-sized pieces of entertainment that are just as rich and vivid as the fiction she created,” Aiello concluded. “That — in a nutshell — is what I think the Universal difference is. That — when we work with other people’s intellectual property — we’re just as passionate, enthusiastic & dedicated to these characters and their stories as the original creators are. Universal Orlando always strives to put these IPs we’ve been entrusted with in the best possible light.”

And speaking of dedication: Tomorrow, the most dedicated Wizarding World fans in the world will be descending on Universal Orlando for the 2nd annual “Celebration of Harry Potter.” Hosted by Universal Orlando Resort and Warner Bros., this three day-long event will feature Q&A sessions with Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore) and other stars of the Harry Potter films. Not to mention a live duelling demonstration led by the world’s only Wand Combat choreographer, Paul Harris. Plus the “Celebration of Harry Potter” Expo, which features interactive exhibits from Warner Bros., Pottermore, Harry Potter: The Exhibition and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where Universal Orlando guests will then have the opportunity to try on the Sorting Hat.

2015-01-29-Celestina7.jpg

But given that this will be the first time that many Harry Potter fans will have the chance to experience The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley (which officially opened to the public back on July 8, 2014), just be aware that there will probably be record crowds in Carkitt Market all weekend long. As these J.K. Rowling fans check out the live stage shows that Universal Entertainment built around Celestina Warbeck & her Banshees and the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Joe Franklin Dead, TV Host Established Talk Shows

NEW YORK (AP) — Pioneering radio and TV host Joe Franklin, who gave breaks to the likes of Al Pacino and Bill Cosby on his variety show long before they became famous and who boasted he never missed a broadcast in decades, has died at age 88.

He died Saturday of cancer, which he had had for a few years, longtime producer and friend Steven Garrin said. Franklin often is credited with developing the standard TV talk show format, sitting behind a desk while interviewing wanna-be celebrities, minor celebrities and the occasional bona fide celebrity.

The host of “The Joe Franklin Show” started in TV in 1950. By the early 1990s, he often said, he had chatted with more than 300,000 guests, including Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli and Madonna. But the notables often had to share air time on his low-budget show with a tap-dancing dentist or a man who whistled through his nose.

Garrin recalled how Franklin, who was parodied by Billy Crystal on “Saturday Night Live,” hired a young Bette Midler as his studio singer and gave a chance on his show to every up-and-comer trying to make it big: Bruce Springsteen, Woody Allen and Dustin Hoffman among them.

“He was a wonderful guy,” Garrin said Sunday. “He gave everybody an opportunity.”

Garrin said he remembered how Pacino, after he became a Hollywood movie star, told Franklin in a private meeting: “Joe, why don’t you interview me now that I’m somebody? You interviewed me when I was nobody.”

After Franklin’s TV show ended in 1993, he worked on his late-night radio show. He continued to work even after he developed cancer, doing celebrity interviews on the Bloomberg Radio Network.

Tuesday was the first scheduled broadcast Franklin had missed in more than 60 years, said Garrin, who worked with him for 20 of those years, booking all his interviews and recording the shows in his studios in Times Square between 1991 and 2010.

Heels Giving You the Pinch? Charlotte Dellal Shows How to Dress Up Your Flats and Still Look Festive!

the-coveteur

We all love how heels look, but sometimes, no matter how much we hate admitting it, they pinch. As a designer and mother, Charlotte Dellal, designer of her namesake label Charlotte Olympia, loves heels with all her heart but definitely sees flats as a sartorial necessity. She creates for the modern woman’s wardrobe, telling us, “being at work full time and a mother of three, I like to design flats that can be dressed up or dressed down; whether I am at the office, in a meeting, picking up my boys from school, or running around after them in the park.” Moreover, Charlotte draws inspiration from her own life and says, “I love to give my collections a soul and a story. I love collecting beautiful things and I translate this by transforming everyday objects into something wearable.”

Though originally known for her sky-high heels (and we really do mean sky-high!), Charlotte introduced her first Kitty flats with her fall 2011 “To Die For” collection (inspired by the Agatha Christie novels of the 1930s) and they have been a staple ever since. Initially, Charlotte tells us, “The idea was to create a shoe inspired by a men’s smoking slipper as typically worn in those days. I wanted to make it more feminine and flirty like a cat; I turned the traditionally high-cut vamp into ears and replaced the classic embroidered monogram with a feline face. The ‘Kitty’ is now a signature style and returns each season updated to suit the mood of the collection.” She has even recently come out with a Kitty & Co Collection, giving each cat-inspired flat a unique expression and personality.

charlotte-olympia

As a Kitty flats lover, Charlotte appreciates the necessity for flats to be dressed up or down and tries to translate that into the designs of her iconic flats. Though her favorites are the classic red leopard Bisoux style flats, claiming, “I am never without red lips or leopard print, so [these] shoes are everything I love wrapped into one!” Charlotte also sings the praises of a classic black flat, telling us, “my black velvet signature Kitty flats are very easy to wear, they look equally good with jeans or with a little dress.” And we couldn’t agree more!

Same-Sex Couples Are Less Likely To Divorce Than Heterosexual Couples, New Study Shows

This post originally appeared on Bustle.

By Pamela J. Stubbart

Opponents of gay marriage, this one is for you. New evidence from the Williams Institute suggests that same-sex couples are less likely to divorce than heterosexual couples, so anyone who has ever argued that gay couples are “ruining” the sanctity of marriage, well, it looks like you’re totally and completely wrong. Oops.

According to data gathered and analyzed by the Williams Institute (a research group focused on “sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy” at UCLA), within the first four years or so that same-sex marriage has been legal in New Hampshire and Vermont, just 1.1 percent of same-sex marriages have ended in divorce. If you include the data from six more states regarding same-sex civil unions and registered domestic partnerships, the same-sex dissolution rate per year ticks up to about 1.6 percent of all legally-recognized partnerships. Both of these same-sex splits per year rates are lower than the 2 percent of heterosexual marriages which dissolve per year in the United States.

As the Williams Institute also points out, the number of same-sex couples choosing to get married following the Supreme Court’s 2013 Windsor decision is rising quickly — even in states where same-sex marriage was already legal. This suggests that as public opinion of same-sex marriage continues to improve, more and more couples will be drawn into the institution (even those couples who were previously unsure about marriage), though these couples may or may not be more likely to divorce in the long-run, so continued analysis is required.

Unfortunately, persisting inequality in marriage laws also makes it more difficult for same-sex couples to separate: as a same-sex spouse, you can’t get a divorce in your home state unless that state recognizes your marriage in the first place, which could partially account for why divorce rates are so low.

But as long as we’re talking about positive news, here’s some more food for thought: according to another recent study published by the University of Melbourne earlier this summer, children of same-sex parents may fare better than those of similar heterosexual couples too. So advocates of “traditional” marriages and families, take that.

Jon Stewart Shows Why China Really Needs That Climate Change Deal

Beijing may have been just about the best possible place to unveil a major deal on emissions because as Jon Stewart pointed out on Tuesday night’s “Daily Show,” the city really needs it.

The air quality is so bad that Beijing had to shut down factories and schools to help reduce smog ahead of the APEC summit. And these efforts worked, leading residents to dub the rare clear skies “APEC blue.”

“Well at least residents didn’t flee in fear of the enormous, ‘SKY FIREBALL!'” Stewart joked, referring to the rare glimpse of sunlight.

That wasn’t the only APEC oddity. From “Hunger Games” cosplay to world leaders acting more like “Mean Girls,” Stewart took a look at the summit’s strangest moments.

‘Hot In Cleveland’ Cast Reveals Why The Show’s So Shocking

TV Land’s “Hot In Cleveland” is proof that with age comes excellence.

Behind its humor and side-splitting hijinks, the show harkens back to the hit ’80s sitcom “The Golden Girls” in its portrayal of mature women who are “rarely celebrated” on television, the cast told HuffPost Live on Tuesday. As such, the sitcom represents a stark departure from the traditional aesthetic normally seen on the small screen.

“It was kind of a wasteland out there. I don’t know of any other show where they were asking [for] women over even 40,” said actress Wendie Malick. “They were going so young with all of these shows, and there were so few shows about women. And the fact that they were going to create something with four women leads was shocking in and of itself.”

Malick hopes that the show might lead the way to a new trend in American television.

“It’s a breath of fresh air, and it’s so good to own who you are, instead of pretending you’re something else,” Malick told host Ricky Camilleri. “It’s why, I think, so many of us are so drawn to BBC shows where women are proud of their age and their experience. And in this country, we’d so love to bring that back.”

“Cleveland” costar Jane Leeves looked to Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren, the newest face of L’Oreal Paris, who she said embodied the grace of a mature woman.

“That is a sexy older woman who owns it. She doesn’t hide her age,” Leeves said. “She doesn’t die her hair even, I don’t think, anymore. She just owns it and that’s so wonderful.”

With veterans like Mirren getting their time to shine, here’s hoping the industry can make room for a few more mature women to flex their acting chops.
