Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2019

“Welcome to lavender world,” Christian Siriano declared upon entering his atelier. The designer took the color to the extreme for pre-fall, injecting soft shades of lavender and lilac into his signature sculptural gowns and a wide range of sleek, daytime silhouettes.
Siriano has been laser-focused with his pre-collections lately — remember, resort was a punch of Barbie pink. Because pre-season collections sit on sales floors the longest, it’s an effort to keep the seasonal messages consistent across different store buys.
The first piece he created was the most elaborate. It also clearly displayed the collection’s inspiration: the lavender fields in Provence, France. Dramatic, tiered layers mirrored the rows of flowers without being overbearing, and the gown would be a great Oscar-night contender, perhaps for Lady Gaga. Other dresses balancing his penchant for drama against feminine charm included a mini lilac number with voluminous sleeves, a pouffy little black dress with cold-shoulder draping, and an elegant white gown with a built-in capelet. Draping, wrap and ruffle details are modern ways Siriano has used to address conservative clients who ask for more coverage.
The collection ranged from feminine and formal to cool and everyday. Separates were meant to be mixed and matched and dressed up

Christian Siriano on Emmys, Inclusivity and New York Fashion Week

Christian Siriano made a summer stop in Los Angeles this week, just in time for Thursday’s Emmy nominations announcement. That night, he hosted a dinner at Chateau Marmont with 11 Honoré, the size-inclusive luxury e-commerce site cofounded by Patrick Herning and Kathryn Retzer. Said Herning, “Christian was one of the first designers we launched with and he’s still one of our best-selling designers a year later. He’s really on board with changing the game.” The designer’s inclusive approach to retail and celebrity dressing has heightened his profile, but he remains as down-to-earth and energetic as ever. “I’m always up sending e-mails in the middle of the night, because otherwise, what are you going to do? We’re there for our customers.”
WWD: When was the last time you were in L.A.?
Christian Siriano: I came for my book launch last November and for a few quick Oscar fittings in January. We dressed almost 17 people and I barely was here. I don’t know how we did that; it was crazy.
WWD: With Emmy nominations on Thursday, has your phone and e-mail already been blowing up?
C.S.: We already got a couple of e-mails, which I love. Judith Light and I were texting and Leslie Jones

Christian Siriano to Discuss His Career, 10th Anniversary With Fern Mallis at 92Y

HAVE A SEAT: With a new multistory Midtown address and store, Christian Siriano has never been more ensconced in New York City. And on June 12 at 92Y, the youngest winner of “Project Runway” will be detailing how his career fast-forwarded over the past 10 years.
Siriano will be looking back (and forward) with Fern Mallis in one of her “Fashion Icons” Q&As. Along with a celebrity client list that has included Leslie Jones, Debra Messing, Scarlett Johansson and Lady Gaga, the designer has his own loyal fan base that was jump-started by his “Project Runway” win. Of course, that was one of several influential launching pads. Siriano had runs at Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Earlier this week he opened The Curated NYC, a multibrand store at 5 West 54th Street, in a 1918 neo-Renaissance style townhouse that at one-time housed Fabergé’s headquarters as well as Cary Grant’s office.
Explaining the concept to WWD, Siriano said, “I really wanted to create a mini-department store. If you come in to shop for a beautiful Christian Siriano dress, what else can go with it that looks amazing? I don’t do jewelry so I wanted to partner with great jewelry brands, I don’t do

Christian Siriano Bridal Spring 2018

For his second year of bridal, Christian Siriano introduced a curated mix of whimsy and modernity. After a year of figuring out his clients’ needs and interests, he’s discovered they’re quite vast. For the traditionalist, there were plenty of full-skirted gowns that were light in weight yet heavy on romance. “Brides are still coming back to these dresses season after season because they have to be classic, they have to be timeless in their own way,” the designer said during a private walk-through at his showroom. For the modern minimalist, he had sleek jumpsuits along with separates that could be mixed-and-matched to transition from the ceremony to reception.
In addition to a beaded collar piece that added an elegant touch to any gown, interchangeable skirts and skirt overlays provided that playful transitional element. For example, an overlay could be removed to reveal a tulle skirt underneath or a party dress. “They want to have fun,” he continued. “I’ve noticed they get one night and they want to have costume changes. It’s so interesting the requests we get.” It’s also something that will give retailers a point of difference in their offering — after a year exclusive with Kleinfeld, Siriano is opening

Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2017

Christian Siriano’s pre-season lineups are always expansive. As they’ve become more important, they’ve become increasingly diverse to meet international needs (fall product apparently doesn’t sell as well in the Middle East’s 100-degree weather, go figure). So pre-fall was a mixed bag, inspired by gestural dancers and a hint of Victoriana for a collection of mild contrasts — voluminous yet lightweight, chic yet wearable, separates made for evening.
To that end, there was a thread of fluidity and motion tying together mix-and-match separates. A fully paneled color-blocked dress was flirty and provided great movement, even offering the appearance of ease hanging on the rack. A single-sleeve top featured ruffle ties that also wrapped around the waist, providing the sort of multifunctional details Siriano’s customers crave. Separates featured lighter fabrics, and the sense of lightness was underscored by the collection’s soft color palette.
Voluminous sleeves tied in Victorian elements on dresses and tops. They were structured yet lighter to the touch than they appeared. “We have a lot of customers that want to be covered but still want to look cool and interesting,” Siriano said in his showroom. Sheer blouson sleeves and open laces kept things modern.
As a large part of the business, Siriano

Christian Siriano Bridal Spring 2017

For his first full-fledged bridal collection, retailing exclusively at Kleinfeld, Christian Siriano looked to France, drawing inspiration from its vintage interiors, Art Nouveau tapestries and the work of Impressionist painters Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. He parlayed his references into a romantic lineup full of classic princess gowns and other, more playful silhouettes — the latter including a cropped-top and skirt set; a sexy, sequined jumpsuit; a ruffled tuxedo and a flirty, feathered minidress. Siriano’s strapless sweetheart gown with a tiered, pleated silk chiffon skirt felt effortlessly feminine, and his pink ombre ballgown — the collection’s showstopping finale look — was bound to fulfill some future bride’s ultimate wedding fantasy.

With the recent runaway success of its I’m No Angel campaign, Lane Bryant has the fashion industry buzzing. And the plus-size retailer is hoping to keep that momentum going through next year, with today’s announcement that Christian Siriano will become its newest guest designer.

The Project Runway alum, known for his curve-hugging red carpet gowns, will launch a capsule collection for the specialty retailer, which will bow in spring 2016. Siriano joins the ranks of Bryant’s former designer collaborators such as Isabel Toledo, Sophie Theallet, and Lela Rose.

“Fashion should never be defined by size,” Siriano said in a statement about the collection, which will range in size from 14 to 28. “Regardless if it’s for red carpet or a day at the office, every woman should feel stylish and comfortable in their clothes. I’m excited about this partnership with Lane Bryant because it allows me the opportunity to showcase my designs on the everyday woman and allow them the opportunity to feel as beautiful and fashionable as possible.”
