Cartoon Network to Sponsor NYFW: Men’s

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is forging a relationship with Cartoon Network.
The network will provide support for the shows and the CFDA connected the company with Ryohei Kawanishi of Landlord, who will design a capsule collection based on “Adventure Time,” a popular animated series.
Instead of just producing a one-off capsule collection, Kawanishi said he has also integrated themes from the series into his main line, which will show during NYFW: Men’s on July 9.
“I wanted to make a mental connection with what’s going on in the cartoons,” said Kawanishi, who usually designs based on distinct themes ranging from Rastafarianism to southern hip-hop.
Cartoon Network has played in the fashion space before via collaborations with brands including Moschino, Champion and Rook, but Pete Yoder, vice president of Cartoon Network Enterprises, North America, said these collaborations have become a bigger focus for the company, which is why it has partnered with the CFDA.
“It’s a huge priority for us because we want to address our fan base with the more traditional licensed product that’s more accessible, but we also want to give our super fans something special that they can call their own,” Yoder said. “Partnering with the CFDA is a great way to gain access to this

‘Project Runway: Junior’ Adds Butter London as Makeup Sponsor

Butter London is embracing creative kids.
The beauty brand has signed on as the makeup sponsor for the second season of “Project Runway: Junior.” The winner of the show will get a chance to collaborate with Butter London on a limited-edition nail and lip collection, and receive a year’s worth of its products.
Even before the winner is chosen, the brand will be spotlighted in a specific challenge and will more generally be integrated into each of the show’s 10 episodes, during which teen fashion designer contestants will work with makeup artist Scott Patric on runway beauty. “Butter London’s bright, vivid lipsticks make the ‘Project Runway: Junior’ designs come alive,” said Patric.
Mostly known for its nail polishes, Butter London’s appearance on “Project Runway: Junior” could help bring exposure to its makeup offerings, including lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, eye shadows, eye liner, mascara and brow items. The show will feature a fully branded Butter London beauty room.
Its second season on Lifetime, kicking off Dec. 22, will see the return of host Hannah Jeter and cohost Tim Gunn as well as celebrity judges Kelly Osbourne, Christian Siriano and Aya Kanai, executive fashion director at Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.

The 11-year-old platform, which is known for hosting celebrity fashion shows and presentations, landed its first title sponsor, Kia Motors, along with a new media partner, Us Weekly; Glamour held the title last year following Elle magazine’s nine-year run in the position.

Amazon Steps Further Into Fashion, to Sponsor India Couture Week

MUMBAI — Amazon India has stepped in as the official title sponsor for another major fashion event, India Couture Week.
The week will open for its sixth season on July 29 and run for five days at the Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi.
A large part of couture in India caters to the huge wedding market, which has long provided the main livelihood for designers.
“We want to work across the fashion spectrum,” Vikram Raizada, director of category management at Amazon India, told WWD, explaining that the e-tailer is extending its association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) with the sponsorship.
“The association will also help extend the fashion segment further across the 19,000 pin [zip] codes that Amazon reaches across the country,” he said.

“This is in line with our vision of transforming the way India sells and shops for fashion online,” Vikas Purohit, head of Amazon Fashion in India.

Dior Returns as Sponsor of the Guggenheim International Gala

For the third consecutive year, Dior is sponsoring the Guggenheim International Gala in New York. The two-night art party, known as the GIG, supports the museum’s operations, including exhibitions, educational programs and the landmark building. To be held Nov. 4 and 5, the first night is a pre-party — read: younger, hipper — hosted by the Young Collectors Council that will feature a performance by Grimes, the Canadian producer, singer and songwriter also known as Claire Boucher, whose fourth album is due out this fall. The second night is a benefit dinner  honoring artists On Kawara (in memoriam) and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, both the subjects of recent exhibitions, and Colombian artist Doris Salcedo, whose work is on view at the museum through Oct. 12.
Since coming on as a sponsor, Dior has infused the GIG with a new energy. In 2013 DJ Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman) performed at the pre-party. Last year, it was British indie band The xx.

The picture above is of a guy LITERALLY running through fire. That’s not a photoshop. It isn’t CGI. It’s dry brush (probably from Texas. Texas has the good brush) set on FIRE. His life, apparently, is so bad that he is running through burning bushes and basically immolating himself. I need to know. Does he have like a classroom of kids at home or are his in-laws living in that pseudo-illegal apartment above the garage?

No?

Is he training for special forces? No? Are you sure? Okay, but he has a number on his chest, so this must be something important enough that it warrants a permanent record of this grand event.

No. Nothing important.

We’re approaching Memorial Day, and though it’s widely adopted as the unofficial start of the summer season, it’s also the unofficial start to your asshole co-worker asking you if you want to do this year’s Tough Mudder with him–or Spartan Race, or Gladiator Walk, or WARRIOR DASH, OR WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU’RE CALLING YOUR DUMB RACE.

Here’s a scenario that I just thought up but is probably close to one-hundred percent accurate:

[Typical office conversation between a guy doing one of these races and myself if I had an office job.]

Bro: Bro… you want to do Tough Mudder with me this year? It’s a crazy course, bro.

Me: (Doesn’t reply. Just walks away.)

Contrary to their names, this adult playpen that you’re going to has literally nothing to do with or is in no way associated with and should never be confused with ancient Rome or gladiators. Or high school football players for that matter.

Look at the picture below. I mean holy shit!!! POP QUIZ: One of these guys is doing a Tough Mudder, and the other was in THE MOVIE, Apocalypto.

Figure it out? Ya. I couldn’t either.

These races are a lot of things — mainly they just fall into the descriptive adjectives column like ridiculous and fucking ridiculous– but what they are not are races designed around methods used by Russel Crowe when he was bulking up for the role of Maximus. Don’t let Don from Accounts Receivable fool you. He’s no more of a man than you because he climbed up a mud wall with oiled up ropes studded with cactus thorns (Cacti thorns?). You still drive a Dodge Dart, Don. And I doubt that the Spartans who fought in the Battle of Thermopylae had toe fungus.

Your void of innate masculinity is really astounding, Mr. Endurance Guy, so I understand this desire of yours to “challenge yourself.” Actually, I don’t. But it makes perfect sense that these glorified obstacle courses would be created by Ivy leaguers– two Havard Business School grads, in fact. Because really, what evokes toughness, gladiator biceps, and human growth hormone inundation like a couple of twenty-six year old hardos named Seth and Dougie…

BUT I GOT A MEDAL AND A RIBBON, GOD DAMMIT!!!!!

Congratulations. You just rewound your life to 4th grade. Has that 5K mud race certificate of authenticity gotten you laid by chance– by a human, I mean?

What ever happened to snuggling up on a banquet seat with a ginger tea and Jonathan Franzen novel on a Saturday? What? I’m not a man you say? Excuse me, but real men vacuum. I don’t need to pound my chest like an ape and prove my testosterone count to anyone…

IWC Schaffhausen to Sponsor Tribeca Film Festival Again

MOVIE TIME: IWC Schaffhausen and the Tribeca Film Festival are going for the complete hat trick. For the third year, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer has signed on as the official “festival-time” partner of the New York-based film festival, which runs from April 15 to 26. To mark the partnership, IWC has created a one-of-a-kind timepiece, called the Portofino Monopusher Edition “Tribeca Film Festival 2015.” The watch features a white gold case set against a slate-colored dial, with bordeaux colored subdials inspired by Hollywood’s red carpet. The casebook of the piece features the logo of the Tribeca Film Festival, as well.
