Sesame Street Records to Be Relaunched by Warner Music and Sesame Workshop

Rarely does anyone mention “Sesame Street” — which is understandable, because […]

Dover Street Market Introduces Danish Jeweler Griegst During Frieze

FATHER TO SON: Arje Griegst forged a unique path as a jeweler and sculptor, since founding his eponymous label in the Sixties, and now a whole new generation has the chance to own — and wear — his work.
Two years after his father’s death, Noam Griegst is setting out to honor his legacy and bring pieces from his archive alive. They’re currently on display — and for sale — outside Copenhagen for the first time at Dover Street Market in London. The store is debuting 10 reissued designs by the late jeweler during the Frieze Art Fair, which runs until Sunday.
Griegst’s commitment to craftsmanship was unrivaled: He made his first piece of cutlery at age 10, received a De Beers Prize at 19 and went on to create a world of his own inside his Copenhagen studio, designing sculpted pieces in gold and precious stones and often receiving commissions from the Danish Royal Family.
“A single ring could take two years to make. He would cast it in wax, again and again, until it was perfected, and in the meantime we were all starving at home and my mum would go completely crazy,” Noam said in an interview. “I’ve been working

Raw video: UFC’s Jared Gordon involved in street fight with gang members that nearly cost him three fingers

This past February, Jared Gordon saw his five-fight win streak snapped by Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night 126 after coming up on the wrong end of a first round technical knockout loss. And while people are quick to flame a fighter for revealing he or she didn’t go into a fight at 100-percent, Gordon tells the tale of just how bad his left hand was busted up after a series of rather unfortunate and bizarre events that you have to see to believe … literally. Speaking to Bloody Elbow, Jared recalls a wild, unexpected street fight he got into with two alleged gang members on the streets of Queens, N.Y., while waiting his turn at a barber shop two months prior to his fight. STREET SIGNS: A Ma Maniére Living Merges Streetwear Retail With Hotel Suites

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Ma Maniére is officially open, but it’s not open. Because of the hordes that lined H Street in Northeast D.C. on Friday, store owner James Whitner told the crowd that he’d postponed the opening, even as a few still meandered about hoping he would change his mind.
“We will never release a sneaker from this location again,” said Whitner, who on that day was releasing the Nike Off-White Prestos, the Adidas Yung-1s and several Jordans. “I’m going to try to tie releases to community outreach initiatives and if you participate, you can buy. I can’t change anything if I don’t change anything.”
For brands such as J.W. Anderson, Greg Lauren, Comme des Garçons Play and Visvim, Whitner’s A Ma Maniére concept is a chance for the brands to introduce themselves to a covetable customer. In most cases, Whitner opens shops in secondary markets such as Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.; Pittsburgh; Houston, and Tampa Bay, Fla., and is the first person to bring these brands to a particular region. He also runs stores in Atlanta.

Street Signs: Moscow’s Coolest Skaters Have a New Place to Shop

MOSCOW — Signaling the vibrancy of the local skateboard scene — and a rebounding Russian retail market — upstart brand Paccbet has opened its first freestanding store here.
The 1,600-square-foot unit is called Oktyabr: the name echos the Oktyabrskaya subway station where Moscow skaters congregate to improve their skills – and check out each others’ gear – under a monumental statue of Lenin.

Paccbet founder Tolia Titaev, 24, hopes Oktyabr – which he bills as the first multi-brand skateboarding store in Moscow – will become another key meeting point for the local scene. In addition to Paccbet, the Russian word for sunrise, the unit carries such brands as F—ing Awesome, Dime, Awake, Stussy and Carharrt. Oktyabr also carries Russian Absurd, which Titaev cooked up with local skating hero Gosha Konushev, who will lead a group of boarders sponsored by Oktyabr.
“I always wanted to do something for Russian skateboarding. I wanted to tell the world that the Russian scene is strong and our youth is buzzing and is willing to do things,” said Titaev, who established Paccbet in 2016 under the tutelage of his friend Gosha Rubchinskiy, the new ringleader of the Russian fashion scene and

Giambattista Valli Adds His Continental Cool to Sloane Street

VA-VA-VALLI: Designer Giambattista Valli landed with a bang in London this week, officially opening his first London store on Sloane Street and hosting a caviar-heavy dinner with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful.
The store, at 29 Sloane Street, is the latest in a series of openings — after Seoul and Beijing — following investment from Artemis, the investment arm of the Pinault family, the French billionaires behind the Kering group.
Later this summer, Valli will be opening in the Qatari capital of Doha, taking the store count to nine. The designer also has a store at Harrods, which will remain open despite its proximity to Sloane Street.
Part luxury home, part retail space, the Sloane Street boutique is awash with the designer’s signature floaty dresses in shades of mint and baby pink. The store carries rtw and accessories, but not haute couture.
“Come over and have a look,” said Valli during a walkthrough. “You can sit on an alligator bench while you buy an alligator bag. I love the idea of one-of-a-kind.”
Valli was referring to a small white bench part covered in alligator skin, one of the many hand-picked pieces of furniture and mid-century antiques in the new store, which spans two floors and

STREET SIGNS: McDonald’s Dabbles in Streetwear

Joseph Robinson is embarking on one of his biggest collaborations to date.
The founder of Joe Freshgoods and Don’t Be Mad, independent streetwear brands based in Chicago, received an e-mail from McDonald’s requesting that he design merchandise for the fast food behemoth.
“I was hesitant at first, because I’m such an independent brand and when you start partnering with companies like McDonald’s sometimes it’s like you have sold out,” said Robinson. “But at the end of the day I thought it would be inspiring to other kids who want to start brands and show them that they can do it, too.”
To build buzz around the launch of Mix by Sprite Tropic Berry, a new soft drink that will be exclusive to McDonald’s, the company recruited Robinson to design a capsule collection of racing-inspired merchandise that will be available at locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York on May 25.

Starting at 2 p.m. local time, customers who purchase the Mix drink can take their receipt to a line to receive a piece from the assortment, which includes a short-sleeve T-shirt, a long-sleeve T-shirt, socks and a wool and leather varsity jacket covered in McDonald’s, Sprite and Joe Freshgoods logos. Street Signs: Will Streetwear Customers Buy a Tie?

Things are changing quickly within men’s wear. When WWD visited Guillermo Andrade a few months ago at 424 on Fairfax, the Los Angeles store he founded in 2010, Dior Homme was setting up a pop-up and Kris Van Assche was the creative lead. Now Van Assche is at Berluti, Kim Jones is at Dior Homme and Virgil Abloh is the creative director at Louis Vuitton men’s, signaling an arrival of sorts for the streetwear category.
Things have also changed with Andrade, who has his own label, named 424, that is carried at retailers including Barneys New York and Selfridges. Andrade has developed a design identity with his 424 armbands, hoodies and T-shirts with subtle social messages, and for spring is inching into new territory with a few tailored pieces.
Tailored clothing isn’t completely foreign to streetwear. Supreme created a seersucker suit with Brooks Brothers in 2014 and Off-White’s fall 2018 men’s wear collection was based on workplace uniforms. Andrade’s expansion could indicate how streetwear might evolve as it aims to stake out more floor space in department stores and grow up with its customers.
WWD spoke to Andrade about growing his L.A.-made streetwear brand, the viability of the category and the possibility of him taking

After almost three decades in business, Luca Benini, the founder of Slam Jam, which is based in Ferrara, Italy, decided it was time to enter the North American market.
“The key objective for Slam Jam is to go international with our distribution by 2020,” said Benini. “Approaching America is a crucial pillar of the strategy, with the very valuable support of market specialist Point.”
Benini partnered with Point, which includes Jason Sherman, Jason Benta and Jordan Thomas, who have held stints within sales at brands including Diadora Heritage, Under Armour and Billionaire Boys Club. They built a relationship organically and got to know each other during Paris fashion week and Miami Art Basel.
Slam Jam is a retailer, distributor and operates production facilities. Long before the luxury and streetwear categories were bedfellows, Benini was connecting these worlds and rooting his brands in skate, art and music. Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Jenny Holzer, KC Ortiz and Others Offer Street Art for This Spring’s ‘Beyond The Streets’

THE GREAT INDOORS: In May, the global movement of graffiti and street art will be in focus in “Beyond The Streets” a three-month museum like experience in Los Angeles.
Orchestrated by curator-collector-consultant Roger Gastman, the ticketed event, which opens to the public May 6, will examine mark making and rule breaking. Gastman knows a good deal about both, having caused a ruckus last week by rallying artists to boycott H&M after the Swedish chain challenged copyright protection of street art with a lawsuit in a federal court in New York. Within 24 hours of his Instagram call-to-action, the fast fashion retailer withdrew its legal complaint and pledged its support to artists.
The ties between graffiti and fashion remain strong. Balenciaga’s fall runway featured a graffiti-covered mountain, Christopher Bailey’s final Burberry collection included neon graffiti looks and Coach hooked up with the Keith Haring Foundation for a collaboration. The latter also enlisted street artists such as Crash, SUCH, WhIsBe and Tats Cru to create 13 murals for an outdoor project. Gastman said, “Fashion is constantly looking at the streets to see what the new cultures are, what the kids are clamoring towards, who has more followers now on social media and who are

British High Street Retailers Named in ‘Dirty Fashion’ Report

DIRTY FASHION: British High Street retailers Next, Asda and Tesco are among the companies that continue to source their viscose from dirty and dangerous factories, according to Changing Markets Foundation, a group that exposes irresponsible corporate practices.
Last June, the foundation issued a report called “Dirty Fashion revisited: Spotlight on a polluting viscose giant,” following an investigation into two factories owned by the Mumbai-based Aditya Birla Group.
The latest statement from Changing Markets, set to be issued late Tuesday, said air and water pollution from the factories is among the causes of ongoing health and environmental issues, and that Next, Asda and Tesco continue to work with them despite the claim.
“Our investigation suggests that Aditya Birla Group is failing to live up to its sustainability claims,” said Natasha Hurley, campaign manager at Changing Markets Foundation. “Brands buying from the company should understand what is really happening on the ground, where local residents’ and workers’ lives are blighted by pollution on a daily basis.”
Located in India and Indonesia, the factories produce 20 percent of the world’s viscose fabric. Viscose is made from plants and is biodegradable, but creating the fabric involves the use of hazardous chemicals, which can be harmful if not monitored

What you like about Pitti: It’s a meeting place for some of the best-dressed men, from all around the world. It encompasses a broad range of styles and celebrates everything from streetwear to tailoring at its best.
What you don’t want to see anymore at Pitti: Poorly executed dandyism. To be a dandy can be a beautiful style when done with the right attitude but it’s much trickier than it seems. Because of its loudness, its mistakes attract the eye like a roadside accident.
Favorite street style moment at Pitti: I love shooting the January edition of Pitti Uomo, because the low sun makes perfect light for shooting all day.
Your favorite street style icons: What draws me to Pitti every year is the new crop of gentleman that inspire me. But I am also very proud that I discovered some of today’s street style stars like Alessandro Squarzi, Domenico Gianfrate, Lino Ieluzzi.
What you expect to trend at Pitti this January in terms of street style: I never look for trends; I’m looking to create images that inspire.

Street Signs: Inside the Restless Mind of Kith’s Ronnie Fieg

NEW YORK — It’s easy to imagine loving shoes, but imagine loving shoes so much that, at 13, you’d rather spend time with them in a stockroom than hang out with friends. Now imagine, 10 or so years later, partnering with Nike, Asics, Adidas and others to rework the designs you used to study in that stockroom. And then imagine finally selling those shoes and wearing those shoes, but, to your surprise, they don’t quite fit. This is how Ronnie Fieg, creative director and chief executive officer of Kith, feels at the moment.
“Where I am right now is like walking around in a pair of shoes and they look fly and you love them, but they are too small. Well, actually, they are too big now. It’s not too big. I don’t want to say that, but the business is a lot bigger than I imagined,” Fieg said in an interview at Kith’s brand new SoHo office in Manhattan, which is a stone’s throw away from its recently opened store on Lafayette Street and a couple of floors above Kering’s New York headquarters. “I’m always uncomfortable because I’ve never been here before. Street Signs: Commonwealth Rises in the Arts District

It’s style, not fashion, Commonwealth seeks to serve under its roof as the streetwear specialty retailer marks a move to the Los Angeles Arts District.
The business, started by Omar Quiambao and Larry Incognito in 2004 as a concept shop with the tag line “For the Greater Good,” brings its street- and skate-inspired boutique to yet another growing pocket of the Arts District where Silverlake Wine, Guerrilla Tacos, Base Coat Nail Salon, CES Gallery and the Museum of Ice Cream all reside. Just footsteps away, Dover Street Market is expected in the spring.
The area reminds Quiambao of New York, where he last resided, and is close to where he now lives in downtown. Opening the 1,500-square-foot shop represents the first time he’s living in the same city as a Commonwealth store.
Quiambao, a graduate of Pratt Institute, has spent the better part of nearly two decades now being a purveyor of what those standing from the outside might call youth culture melded with skate and streetwear. Commonwealth’s brand of that lifestyle mixes high fashion with the street for a store that includes brands such as Pleasures, Wacko Maria, Brain Dead, Padmore & Barnes, Stone Island, APC and Comme des Garçons Play, among

Dover Street Market Hosts Festive Open House

HOLIDAY INSTALLATIONS: With Christmas approaching, Dover Street Market hosted an event to celebrate with a series of signature installations from various brands and designers, and marked Comme des Garçons’ Re/tartan Re/energy Holiday campaign launch.
London-based stylists Charlotte Stockdale and Katie Lyall, co-editors in chief of brand new magazine-cum-posterbook Chaos SixtyNine, held a “teenage bachelor bedroom” themed installation in the basement. “We wanted it to be a space where you could put up all the posters from the magazine freely. That seemed naturally to be a teenage bedroom,” said Lyall.
The space was also used to launch the Chaos Bruv Club Collection, as well as special merchandise. “The Bruv Club is like men’s suiting, racer graphics, a bit skate and a bit gentleman,” said Stockdale. “It’s a nice mix of the two. Bruv Club to us is all-inclusive: boys, girls, anyone up for a bit of fun.”
While the second issue of the biannual title won’t be out until at least May of next year, Charlotte and Katie have collaborations up their sleeves — the first of which will be with Hayden Kays, a British artist influenced by Fifties pop art. It will include custom graphics printed onto Chaos phone cases. They will be available

Street Signs: Roc-a-Fella Cofounder on Building Streetwear Brands

On Nov. 30, Nike will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Air Force One by releasing five different styles designed by Errolson Hugh of Acronym, Virgil Abloh of Off-White, rapper Travis Scott, Don Crawley of Just Don, and Roc-a-Fella Records cofounder Kareem “Biggs” Burke.
Burke is the unofficial godfather of the group, and in many ways planted the seed from which the rest of the collaborators sprouted. It starts with Roc-a-Fella, which he founded with Jay-Z and Damon Dash in 1994, then moves on to Kanye West, who signed to Roc-a-Fella in the early Aughts. Both Abloh and Crawley, better known as Don C, are directly connected to West — Abloh was his creative director at one point and Crawley served as the road manager and DJ from time to time. And Scott is signed to Good Music, which is West’s record label.
“This is the offspring of what we’ve built,” said Burke. “To see Virgil and Don C’s success, I love that. People talk about legacy and how I want to be remembered and I just want that family tree to keep growing.”
The Roc-a-Fella Air Force One is the only shoe from the capsule that isn’t an entirely new design. In

Balenciaga Brings Copy Shop Concept to Dover Street Market

DO IT YOURSELF: Balenciaga is bringing its copy shop concept to London’s Dover Street Market.
The personalized T-shirt printing service, first unveiled during its takeover of Paris concept store Colette last summer, will be installed in the store from Nov. 30 to Dec. 17, the brand said.
Touch screens will allow customers to create their own designs, using a selection of Balenciaga logos and graphics, to be printed instantly. The T-shirts will be available in black, white, gray and red, in two sizes for men and women, and will feature the mention “Balenciaga Do It Yourself Ts” on the back.
The project is an offshoot of Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia’s men’s wear show for fall exploring the corporate world, with items including sweatshirts bearing the slogan of the brand’s parent company Kering.
To mark the inauguration of the copy shop on Nov. 30, Balenciaga will offer an exclusive colorway of its Triple S sneaker in all Dover Street Market stores worldwide. The London installation will also feature a sculpture by Mark Jenkins and video screens.

Street Signs: ‘Friendly’ Sneakersnstuff Rolls Out Welcome Mat in New York

Erik Fagerlind, who cofounded the specialty sneaker chain Sneakersnstuff with Peter Jansson in 1999, says 80 percent of its business now comes from e-commerce sales — up from 50 percent five years ago. But physical retail remains a significant part of its growth strategy outside of home country of Sweden, having planted shops in London, Paris, Berlin and now New York.
“In a world where everything is available and accessible, you have to provide a little bit more than product,” Fagerlind said. “You have to provide the service to be relevant with your consumer.”
Sneakersnstuff will bring its popular concept to New York in early December. The 3,500-square-foot shop will be located in the Meatpacking District, designed by Jenny Askenfors of Bofink Design Studio and feature a basement bar. Wil Whitney, who has deep roots in the New York skate and streetwear scene — he was a former manager at Stüssy, helped start Nom de Guerre, a men’s wear brand and Brooklyn shop that closed in 2010, and most recently worked for Noah — will manage the boutique. There are plans to open a Los Angeles flagship in 2018.
In Fagerlind’s view, the Meatpacking District was the ideal spot because it’s not saturated with

STREET SIGNS: The Making of a Celebrity Sneaker Deal

Reebok spent a year courting Future.
The relationship began in 2015 when the company started seeding the artist, whose real name is Nayvadius Wilburn, with shoes to wear. Then the team began attending his shows, inviting him to Reebok’s headquarters in Massachusetts and detailing how both parties could help each other.
“They made an effort to connect with him,” said Ebonie Ward, Future’s brand manager. “It wasn’t about sending e-mails. They told him they didn’t want to take advantage of him as an artist and use his fan base. They wanted to build a partnership with him. That’s what sealed the deal with Future. It wasn’t about him throwing on a pair of shoes and thinking people are going to just buy them.”
Athletic companies tapping celebrities, specifically hip-hop artists, isn’t a new concept. In fact, 14 years ago, Reebok offered Jay-Z a deal — the first of its kind — that led to the commercially successful S. Carter sneakers, which, when released, were one of the brand’s best-selling products. But the structure of today’s deals, and the climate around them, has evolved and Future’s relationship with Reebok reflects how the market has shifted.
Future signed with Reebok in 2016 and has played a

Steve Aoki Named Co-owner, Brand Collaborator for Vision Street Wear

Authentic Brands Group, which owns Vision Street Wear, has teamed up with Steve Aoki to bolster the line.
The DJ and producer will serve as brand collaborator and co-owner. Aoki said he would be involved in all areas of the business, including overall strategy, marketing and creatively developing each collection.
“This is a whole different world than doing an endorsement deal or a sponsorship deal and just rocking some T-shirts,” said Aoki. “Vision is a beloved brand to me. It’s a brand I grew up wearing and loving through my adolescence and now I am in this position to be a part of maintaining and growing the brand on all different verticals.”
Vision was founded 40 years ago by Brad Dorfman, who started out producing skateboards before introducing Vision Street Wear. Authentic Brands Group acquired Vision Street Wear, which works with partners in Japan and South Korea, in 2014.
Nick Woodhouse, president and chief marketing officer for Authentic Brands Group, believes Aoki, who played at his bachelor party, is the ideal person to build up the brand.
“I always knew what an amazing creative force Steve is,” said Woodhouse. “He produces terrific content, has an amazing social following and people are fanatical about him. He resonates with youth, he’s

New West End Company Lays Out Its Vision for Oxford Street

MODERN VISION: The New West End Company, the U.K. firm that represents businesses across London’s West End area including Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets, has released a study that lays out its vision for the evolution of Oxford Street.
The study, called “The Future of the Oxford Street District,” was created in partnership with the public realm and urban design consultancy firm Publica, economic consultancy agency Volterra and property consultants Gerald Eve. It highlights a series of recommendations for the busy shopping thoroughfare which would improve and diversify the experience on offer, as well as create additional revenue streams.
Taking into account ongoing issues such as air quality and the need for traffic-free zones, the study recommends the creation of clear pedestrian and cycle routes that will enable visitors to safely move around, as well as public areas such as play spaces or open green spaces. The organization of more cultural or community events in the evening is also part of the recommendations, as an answer to the need to enhance the street’s evening economy.
The study takes into account the increased amount of visitors on the street, which is estimated to reach 260 million annually following the completion of the Elizabeth line,

The Street Art Hiding On The 69th Floor Of One World Trade Center

Is street art still street art if it dwells not on storefronts and avenues but 69 floors up in a Manhattan skyscraper? This is the question at the root of “ART4WTC: Gallery in the Sky,” an artistic collaboration between street art legends in the unlikely setting of One World Trade Center.

Ron English, Jenna Morello, Lauren YS, Stickymonger and Kimyon333 are among the artists contributing to the project, which collapses the space between renegade, guerrilla artwork and corporate design.

“What I find so entertaining is this contradiction of terms on all levels,” creative producer Robert Marcucci said in a statement. “And the fact that it is nestled in this very corporate structure gives it the attention I think it deserves ― a proper look at a contemporary art movement born out of a extremely stressed fabric of modern society, that is evolving more and more each day, blending various styles of art and sending a message out to larger audiences.”

Marcucci explained that the recruited artists had free rein to create whatever they so pleased in the space of the open 69th floor, though they were encouraged to seek inspiration from New York City, as well as the memory of 9/11 and ideas of rebirth, strength and patriotism.

The project, dubbed an “art world in the sky,” captures the strange juxtaposition of corporate wealth and street energy that is unique to New York City. See some of the work below.

Street Signs: Venus X Has a New Vision for Retail

Venus X is expanding her orbit.
The DJ, who founded the GHE20G0TH1K party series in 2009 and brought on with Hood by Air’s Shayne Oliver as a resident in 2010, has opened Planet X, a Chinatown store selling vintage and new products.
She tested out retail last year with a pop-up in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, that was only supposed to last for a month, but remained open for six months. And shortly after packing up the temporary shop, she moved into a studio on the third floor of a Chinatown building at 99 Canal Street.
“It was so hard,” said the DJ, whose birth name is Jazmin Venus Soto. “But we learned how to do things like hire people, fire people and do inventory. Things are undoubtedly going to get messed up if you don’t have investors or a lot of money, but we all learned together. It was very ‘Teen Mom’ style.”
Soto is used to operating on the periphery and championing the marginalized. She’s created safe spaces for mostly young, LGBTQ people of color with her parties and recently launched a GHE20G0TH1K record label to promote artists that bigger labels don’t typically invest in. She even called out a powerful pop star,

Bergdorf’s Men’s Store Ups Its Street Cred

NEW YORK — Bergdorf Goodman is going street.
Over the past two years the upscale retailer has increasingly been partnering with some of the more trend-setting streetwear labels on special capsules and in-store events to update the mix on the third floor of its Goodman’s men’s store.
Brands from John Elliott and Kith to Off-White and NikeLab have worked with the retailer on special installations, and the latest one will hit today when Kith’s second capsule for the store is delivered.
Exclusives are nothing new for retailers. Merchants are constantly negotiating with vendors for something unique they can offer their customers that also differentiates them from their competitors.
But in the past few years Bergdorf Goodman has pushed the envelope, aligning with hot brands that have generally eschewed traditional retail. The result has been a win-win for both.
“When we joined three years ago, we examined the third floor and where we saw fashion moving,” said Bruce Pask, Bergdorf’s men’s fashion director. “Then we set a direction to put designers in place to address that.”
So together with Melissa Lowenkron, senior vice president of men’s, women’s footwear, handbags and beauty, the store worked initially with John Elliott, who was the first of the new breed of men’s designers to create

Michael Moore Recalls The Time Bill O’Reilly Accosted Him On The Street

Michael Moore is feeling pretty good after Bill O’Reilly was dumped by Fox News following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

On Thursday, while speaking after a special screening of his 2002 film “Bowling for Columbine” at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Moore recalled how O’Reilly once randomly accosted him on the street.

Moore told the audience of one time when O’Reilly was “passing me by on the street in a limo, sees me, tells the driver to screech to a halt, and he jumps out of the car, yelling at me. Someone happened to capture a picture of the moment. Look at O’Reilly’s face ― it’s the scariest frikkin’ thing. But I’m still standing and he’s not,” he said.

Yes, there’s somehow photographic evidence of such an event, which Moore tweeted out on Wednesday.

Moore famously went head-to-head with O’Reilly after the release of Moore’s 2004 documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11,” in which the former Fox News host began the interview by asking Moore, “You want to apologize to the president now or later?”

Christopher Kane Cuts Ribbon on Bond Street Pop-Up in London

ROCKING OUT: “Surreal” was the adjective Christopher Kane chose to describe the opening of his first shop on Bond Street, a pop-up that will remain in place until the end of the year.
“I grew up knowing this street, seeing all the big brands on it. I’ve had to pinch myself now that I’m here. It feels very strange – but brilliant,” said Kane during an opening party in London on Wednesday night.
As reported, the space at 15 Old Bond Street is stocking key show and commercial ready-to-wear and accessories, and will also offer exclusive pieces made for the store. Kane’s flagship on Mount Street remains open.
Kane said he likes the idea of being able “to meet and greet” potential new customers in the Bond Street space, which has in the past been home to fellow Kering brand Bottega Veneta, and to Tod’s.
He was chatting in front of a display of marbled-surface Crocs studded with chunky, colored or sparkling rocks, some natural, others lab-grown. All of them would have made Pebbles Flintstone swoon.
“The Crocs are doing so well and we’re going to continue to collaborate with the company,” said Kane, whose decision to put Crocs on the runway caused many front-row guests to raise their

Street Fighter on Switch Has a First-Person Hadouken Mode

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers will come with an extra, Nintendo Switch-flavoured mode – it’s pretty strange.

The back of the Japanese edition’s box (thanks, Nintendo Everything) includes a section on a new mode called (according to IGN’s translation), “Fire! Ha-DO-Ken”. The “do” represents a play on words, implying that you “do” the action yourself.

The box blurb also makes mention of a “1st person POV full impact mode”, and says that the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers will be used.

As pointed out by Polygon, the game’s announcement trailer appeared to show the mode very briefly – a slowed-down gif of that moment is below:

Coach Celebrates Opening of Regent Street Flagship

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: Following the launch of its new house on Fifth Avenue last week, Coach let the good times roll with a party to mark the opening of a Regent Street flagship on Thursday night.
Located on 206 Regent Street, next door to Stuart Weitzman (which is owned by Coach) the new 27,500 square feet space showcases the brand’s new retail concept.
Designed by creative director Stuart Vevers in collaboration with William Sofield, the shop aims to embody the concept of modern luxury and focuses on customization, with stations offering monogramming and made-to-order services.
It also highlights the brand’s playful spirit, with a metallic sculpture of Rexy the dinosaur, who stomps his way across the brand’s rtw and accessories collections, at the entrance of the store. Rexy also appears in street-facing windows, in the form of a neon pink light installation.
Dancers dressed in dinosaur costumes were the main attraction for party guests, including Kate Moss, Henry Holland, Poppy Delevingne, Erin O’ Connor and Daisy Lowe.
“It feels like a home-away-from-home because my house is filled with dinosaurs. I had a sweet chat with Stuart about it and he said that the message is embracing the child within, which is great. He

Gant Relocates Regent Street Space, Launches New Store Concept

LONDON — After almost seven years at the same address on Regent Street, Gant has crossed the road and moved into a space formerly occupied by Hugo Boss.
The new store, at 184-186 Regent Street, spans 4,449 square feet across two floors and is located between Hamley’s toy store and Kate Spade.
Gant chief executive officer Patrik Nilsson said he prefers the new location, called it the “sunnier side of the street with 60 percent more traffic.”
He also said the new location was a better space, adding that 60 percent of the products stocked in the store had been selected based on research the company had conducted.
The brand has implemented a new store concept, shifting from an “American lifestyle” to a more “cosmopolitan and sophisticated” aesthetic, with plans to roll out the same approach to its other locations globally. The store’s interiors include movable oak furniture and brass fixtures, with the aim of giving it a more contemporary appeal compared with the previous setup, which was fixed.
“We’ve used the oak cut, which is also taken from the history we have,” said chief marketing officer, Brian Grevy.
“But we also wanted to have a space that was smart. Actually the science behind going into this new

Carson Street to Close Store

Carson Street will cease to exist.
The men’s wear store, which was originally named Carson Street Clothiers, will close its doors on June 15.
In a press release, cofounder Matt Breen stated the following:
“When our doors opened in March 2013, we had one goal: to bring something new to the men’s clothing market, both in New York City and around the world. We approached the business from a ‘fan-first’ perspective, which fueled our desire to continuously bring new product to the market, find and cultivate new brands and relationships, and keep Carson Street interesting to its loyal, amazing customers.”
This closure comes shortly after cofounder Brian Trunzo announced he was leaving the business to pursue different projects stating, “Carson Street is, and will always be, a defining body of work for me. But there’s more work to do out there.”
The retailer seemed to be in growth mode. Just a couple of weeks ago, WWD reported on Carson Street‘s new, larger store on Greene Street — they closed the Crosby Street Store — and its brand roster revamp, which moved away from tailored clothing and into more progressive designer brands including E. Tautz, Lemaire and J.W. Anderson. The founders’ goal was to merchandise these brands in a

Brian Trunzo Leaves Carson Street

Brian Trunzo is leaving Carson Street.
Trunzo cofounded the New York City store in 2012 with Matt Breen, whom he met at law school. He declined to provide details on his reasons for departing or his plans.
Trunzo is leaving the brand while it’s in growth mode. The former lawyers recently relocated the men’s store to a larger space on Greene Street in SoHo and shifted its brand offering to focus more on progressive designer merchandise. They also had plans to set up shop in either Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., or Chicago in fall 2017.
Additionally, the founders launched a separate men’s wear line, Deveaux, earlier this year. The American-made collection, which will be in stores for fall, has been picked up by Totokaelo, United Arrows and Biotop in Japan, and Spruce, a men’s wear store in Chicago that’s set to open this year.
“Carson Street is, and will always be, a defining body of work for me. But there’s more work to do out there,” said Trunzo.

Brooklyn Beckham’s New Girlfriend, Sonia Ben Ammar, Is a Street Style Star In-The-Making

Brooklyn Beckham has a new girlfriend, and we predict she’ll be a major street style star in no time. Paris-based model Sonia Ben Ammar is stunning, with classic French girl style she displays in full via Instagram. We know the look is about casual basics, plenty of flats, and outfits that have perfect little details you only notice when giving them a thorough once-over, and it’s pretty much check, check, check for the lovely.

Sonia’s style holds true to the sartorial standard: she’s got a super collection of perfect skinny jeans and cozy sweaters that are basic enough, but manage to look effortless when styled together just so. Her accessory game mixes some jealousy-inducing bags with the quirky pieces any 16-year-old girl would like (four of her most recently posted pics show one of those stretchy, thin plastic chokers that first emerged in the ’90s).

MORE: 10 Key Style Differences Between French and American Women

Stat-wise, she’s signed with Next Management and has also done some acting and singing. Her and Brooklyn’s relationship supposedly started when their families were vacationing at the same time in the Maldives, and they’ve moved on from “chaperoned” Paris trips to some Hollywood concert canoodling. For the latter she wore a ring-neck tee and carried a chain-strap orange bag. So cool.

Below, a glance at some of her best outfits to date.

Las Vegas Reunites Rat Pack with Sammy Davis, Jr. Street Naming

For both his children and millions of his fans, the dedication of Sammy Davis Jr. Drive in Las Vegas on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 is a fitting commemoration of the legacy of the legendary entertainer and a living reminder of the lasting contributions he made to the city he loved. The intersection of the newly named avenue (formerly known as Industrial Road) with Frank Sinatra Drive and Dean Martin Drive also pays symbolic tribute to the historic “Rat Pack” that did so much to build Las Vegas into a thriving destination.

Known as “Mr. Show Business,” Sammy had a storied career beginning in vaudeville at age 3. His major credits include the hit songs Candy Man and What Kind of Fool Am I, Broadway plays Golden Boy and Mr. Wonderful and the Rat Pack film Oceans 11.

“My father was the true American dream,” explains Manny Davis, Sammy’s son and administrator of his estate. “He had little education and had enormous adversity to overcome. He put himself through the fire because he had something to prove to himself and to society that nothing could keep him down. Some people were not as courageous to stand up to the oppression of his time. But Sammy did, and he gained the respect of all of his peers, white and black, men and women.”

“The dedication means a lot to our family because Vegas wasn’t always town that was tolerant of African Americans. Dad had to go through the back doors and got substandard treatment at all times. Frank Sinatra saw the dehumanization, and the Rat Pack all took a stand. Thanks to their courage, Sammy helped integrate the city, and the impact on the Civil Rights Movement reverberated throughout the country.”

Manny also sees his father as a trailblazer not only in civil rights but also as an artist and a style maker. “The glamorous lifestyle that is so familiar in the lives of entertainers and movie stars of today was all but forbidden and uncool for African American artists before my father’s time. It started with Sammy Davis, Jr., and I love the fact that he did it. He showed that an African American superstar could work with anyone. The sky was the limit. His music is timeless and will always speak to me and millions of others because he came from a time when the words to the music actually meant something. Every time I listen to a song of his, I feel the truth in the words, and it makes me cry. It seems like it applies directly to my life.”

Manny believes the timing of the Las Vegas ceremony twenty-five years after Sammy’s death coincides with a new surge to bring his life’s work to new audiences. A feature film, a Broadway musical, documentaries and a new biography are on the drawing board. “We get offers but not all deals are good deals, so we have to be selective. There’s always talk of a movie based on his life. I think it would be a tremendous challenge for an actor because Sammy was so talented at so many things, singing, dancing, acting, comedy and more. I’m glad that no one expects me to be like Sammy Davis, Jr. because it’s damn near impossible. Anyone who is going to play his role is going to have to do his homework. He’ll have to be really good.”

Biography of a Tenement House in New York City: An Architectural History of 97 Orchard Street

Biography of a Tenement House in New York City: An Architectural History of 97 Orchard Street

I trace my ancestry back to the Mayflower,” writes Andrew S. Dolkart. “Not to the legendary ship that brought the Pilgrims to Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620, but to the more prosaic tenement on the southeast corner of East Broadway and Clinton Street named the Mayflower, where my father was born in 1914 to Russian-Jewish immigrants.” For Dolkart, his father’s experience of being raised in a tenement became a metaphor for the life that was afforded countless immigrant children growing up in Lower Manhattan during the past century. In this revised edition of his classic book, Dolkart presents for us a precise and informative biography of a typical tenement house in New York City that became, in 1988, the site for the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. The author documents, analyzes, and interprets the architectural and social history of this building at 97 Orchard Street, beginning in the 1860s when it was erected, moving on to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when the neighborhood started to change, and concluding in the present day as the building is reincarnated as the museum. This edition includes new research on the basement storefronts (specifically the Schneider saloon and the kosher butcher), the backyard privies and their reconstruction, and the new Irish Moore apartment. “Biography of a Tenement House in New York City “is a lasting tribute to the legacy of immigrants and their children, who were part of the transformation of New York City and the fabric of everyday American urban life. Meet the Woman Behind Beyoncé’s Street Style Transformation

2015-08-21-1440178778-8853572-beyoncestreetstyleevolution2.jpg

by EDWARD BARSAMIAN

“She wears the crown for all the work that she’s put into the industry,” says Beyoncé’s personal wardrobe curator, Zerina Akers. “But I also want her to have fun. After all she is a woman.”

Over the past year, Akers has worked with the multiplatinum superstar analyzing the right cuts, fits, and silhouettes solidifying Queen Bey’s place in fashion royalty–one which the consummately best-dressed singer maintains through not only her own wardrobe, but a forthcoming partnership with Topshop, too. But there’s another, equally stylish side of the pop icon, and anyone who visits the 33-year-old’s Instagram or website will notice: Recently she has been upping her fashion game with seemingly impromptu shoots no matter where in the world she happens to be. We’ve also seen Bey sport some names outside the runway regulars including Harbison, Marco de Vincenzo, and Romeo Hunte–courtesy of Akers. “I really wanted to bring in some new designers, some younger kids to see what they’re doing,” Akers told us recently, adding, “and then incorporate more international designers and underground streetwear designers out of London.”

It’s been a masterful evolution for the singer who has lately taken to bold color, feminine prints, and punchy accessories. For the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, Mrs. Carter slipped into a cardinal Harbison jumpsuit, while another occasion saw her opt for a tailored, canary yellow Zadig & Voltaire suit emphasizing the star’s renewed focus on rainbow-like shades. “I wanted to be a little more experimental with color,” says Akers, adding, “like the orange Cushnie et Ochs top and pink Dsquared2 shorts. She’s such a bright person and I feel like in fashion today everyone strays away from color.”

However, one outfit that Akers references as a favorite was an all-cream look Beyoncé wore earlier this summer, which hinted at the shift in wardrobe that’s sophisticated and clean, but accessible: Pairing a topper from Barneys New York with Frame Denim jeans, her ensemble was a study in how to approach neutral dressing at all price points. “High-low is all about color selection, shape, and fabrication of the garment,” explains Akers. “I can get a skirt for $ 50 in matte jersey. It’s going to move and hug the body in a similar way as a skirt that’s $ 795.” Akers says the secret to her A-list client’s style comes down to the fit: She and Bey have been gravitating toward asymmetrical and bias cuts.

But the best part of her role, the stylist maintains, is being able see Beyoncé excited about the looks. “That’s the reward,” says Akers matter-of-factly. “That she’s enjoying herself and feels beautiful and confident.” How else, after all, to run the world?

The Witch of Lime Street

The Witch of Lime Street

History comes alive in this textured account of the rivalry between Harry Houdini and the so-called Witch of Lime Street, whose iconic lives intersected at a time when science was on the verge of embracing the paranormal. The 1920s are famous as the golden age of jazz and glamour, but it was also an era of fevered yearning for communion with the spirit world, after the loss of tens of millions in the First World War and the Spanish-flu epidemic. A desperate search for reunion with dead loved ones precipitated a tidal wave of self-proclaimed psychics-and, as reputable media sought stories on occult phenomena, mediums became celebrities. Against this backdrop, in 1924, the pretty wife of a distinguished Boston surgeon came to embody the raging national debate over Spiritualism, a movement devoted to communication with the dead. Reporters dubbed her the blonde Witch of Lime Street, but she was known to her followers simply as Margery. Her most vocal advocate was none other than Sherlock Holmes’ creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who believed so thoroughly in Margery’s powers that he urged her to enter a controversial contest, sponsored by Scientific American and offering a large cash prize to the first medium declared authentic by its impressive five-man investigative committee. Admired for both her exceptional charm and her dazzling effects, Margery was the best hope for the psychic practice to be empirically verified. Her supernatural gifts beguiled four of the judges. There was only one left to convince. the acclaimed escape artist, Harry Houdini. David Jaher’s extraordinary debut culminates in the showdown between Houdini, a relentless unmasker of charlatans, and Margery, the nation’s most credible spirit medium. The Witch of Lime Street, the first book to capture their electric public rivalry and the competition that brought them into each other’s orbit, returns us to an oft-mythologized era to deepen our understanding of its history, all while igniting our imaginat

112 Greene Street: The Early Years, 1970-1974

112 Greene Street was one of New York’s first alternative, artist-run venues. Started in October 1970 by Jeffrey Lew, Gordon Matta-Clark and Alan Saret, among others, the building became a focal point for a young generation of artists seeking a substitute for New York’s established gallery circuit, and provided the stage for a singular moment of artistic invention and freedom that was at its peak between 1970 and 1974. This extensively researched volume is the culmination of David Zwirner’s January 2011 exhibition of the same name, gathering a number of works exhibited at 112 Greene Street (by Matta-Clark, Vito Acconci, Tina Girouard, Suzanne Harris, Jene Highstein, Larry Miller, Alan Saret and Richard Serra among others), alongside extensive interviews with many of the artists involved, a timeline of the early years at 112 Greene Street and installation views of the 2011 exhibition.

http://www.acrx.org -As millions of Americans strive to deal with the economic downturn, loss of jobs, foreclosures, high cost of gas,and the rising cost of prescription drug cost. The ACRX discount prescription card program was created and over 25 million discount prescription cards were donated to over 18k organizations across the country to be distributed to those in need of prescription assistance free of charge since 2004.

The ACRX cards will offer discounts of name brand drugs of up to 40% off and up to 60% off of generic drugs. Any one can use these cards but ACRX is focusing on those who are uninsured, underinsured, or on Medicare. The ACRX cards are now in Spanish as well.

American Consultants Rx made arrangements online for the ACRX card to be available at http://www.acrxcards.com where it can also be downloaded. This arrangement has been made to allow organizations an avenue to continue assisting their clients in the community until they receive their orders of the ACRX cards. ACRX made it possible for cards to be requested from online for individuals and organizations free of charge. Forever Bleeker Street, Forever Young

In 1961, at 17 years old, I moved into a floor thru pink brownstone on the corner of Bleeker and Jones Street in the West Village of New York City. It was heaven. There were cozy woodsy cafe houses on every street corner, The Figaro, The Fat Black Pussycat, The Gaslight Cafe. They were filled with college students listening to a brand new sound, folk singing.

2015-06-15-1434333442-8015691-image.jpeg

The small Bleeker Street shops were stocked with goods from other folksy artists, either designing beatnick clothing, African ethnic jewelry or middle eastern patchwork home furnishings, including mirrored pillows and bongo drums. The Look was changing from sleek 50’s post modern to a new Look called WHATEVER …..as long as it shakes and sparkles. Everything in these shops (now called “boutiques), looked and felt brand new with a new vibe, a vibe that sang of love, of freedom, and a vibe that reeked of sex.

The Village and it’s cool inhabitants had also just discovered marajuana, that we all called POT.

Dylan Thomas, Jack Kerouac, William de Kooning all hung out at the Cedar Street Tavern on University Place picking up all the wistful, young, long haired girls. Woody Allen and Lenny Bruce, performed at the Cafe Wha while picking up all the busty NYU literary scholars they could handle. Bob Dylan, still Bobby Zimmerman, sang at the Cafe Wha and I passed the hat for him and Fred Neil, our singer songwriter star ( who had launched Dylan).

I attended Parsons School of Design launching a brand, Fonssagrives -Tiel with my future partner, Mia Fonssagrives. My coffeehouse name was Peaches La Tour, a name given to me by Steve De Naut, my Cafe Wha folk singing sweetheart. Steve was the father of future actress Rosanna Arquette, then Lisa De Naut. To catch his eye I created see thru lace mini dresses, crochet tops and wrap skirts all styles that are sold again today in the Bleeker St shops.

2015-06-15-1434334029-7808069-image3.jpeg

In my pink brownstone I also sewed and sold fringed suede vests, skirts and handbags with my 6 inch fringe often beaded. The artists and folk singers I met in the cafés bought my clothes, especially my black or forrest green skin tight leather pants. Every which way you turned you felt you were in the center of the happening universe. The boring” Father Knows Best” fifties were a thing of the past.

Today in 2015 at 71, both my age numbers and myself have reversed. I have returned once again to live near Bleeker St but in the the East Village, not the West Village and after spending 45 years in the posh upper east side on E 63rd St making custom gowns for VIP’s at Bergdorf Goodman, I once again am wandering the streets that so inspired me at 17. I prefer the East side as my beloved Cafe Figaro is now an ice cream chain.

I stay today in NYC with my dear Parsons classmate artist, Mary Alice Orito, who was just named President of NAWA, the oldest association of women artists. In 1961 Mary Alice worked at Margaret Moore on 8th st selling hippy chic jewelry, while a student, a block away from my brownstone my hippy-home-brick walled shop.

QUELLE COINCIDENCE…suddenly sixties and seventies fashion is back in Vogue and back downtown and so am I, and so is Mary Alice.

Our favorite hangout today is Agozar a Cuban cafe on 324 Bowery on the corner of Bleeker St in the East Village. Not only is it an outdoor people watching heaven, it also has Tapas to perfection and it has the city’s best Piña Colata, topped sky high with toasted coconut. We can sit for two hours and see all of the cities fashion finest. In my youth the Bowery was a no-no, a no-go.

2015-06-15-1434334094-6449764-image4.jpeg

Fine Art had moved across town to the East Village and Bleeker St now houses one of the cities best contemporary galleries, Zurcher Gallery, at 33 Bleeker. They hold a mini art fair twice a year. The gallery is also also in Paris.

In the posh West Village under the Highline uptown artists and their expensive galleries have moved downtown from 57th st and escaped the high dollar rents which had made newly discovered artists unaffordable. Now galleries are moving across town to the East Village allowing even more unknown creative artists to display their work.

Salon Zurcher had a fabulous show highlighted by the Benischek Giant Levi Jacket, called “New Day Rising”. It caught my eye.

2015-06-15-1434334766-87633-image5.jpeg

The blue jean, is the only item of clothing worn nonstop from the sixties until today. Brad Benischek, a New Orleans artist, whose work will then be featured in Brooklyn at David Dixon’s Cathouse FUNeral Gallery is a man after my heart combining fashion and art.

If you are to buy only one item today on Bleeker St, it has to be a sixties brown floppy hat. The place to go is City Hats on 63 Bleeker St. No other item so captures the feeling of the Bleeker St vibe then a floppy brown hat, be it summer or winter the hat said it all, we were easy breezy, we were cool.
