The recently announced Game of Thrones prequel will reportedly start shooting in Belfast this October.

The Belfast Telegraph reports the staff at the Paint Hall studios in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter have been told the prequel will be their next major project. Paint Hall has served as the main studio for Game of Thrones, with the original show being filmed mostly in Northern Ireland.

HBO recently gave a pilot order for the untitled prequel, which hails from Kingsman writer Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin. It’s not yet known when the prequel will premiere. Though Martin has confirmed it will have an entirely different cast and its title could be The Long Night.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast Spreads Lies Singing ‘I Will Survive’

How do you think Gloria Gaynor feels knowing her song is being used to spread filthy lies?

That’s what’s going down thanks to YouTube channel Sung by Movies.

In a new video, “Game of Thrones” footage is cut together so the characters belt out Gaynor’s hit “I Will Survive.”

The video is fun but, alas, it’s all hogwash. With only two seasons left and an impending White Walker invasion, it’s possible that none of them make it out alive. In fact, some of the characters in the video are already dead.

(R.I.P., Robb. The North remembers.)

But who needs the Iron Throne, anyway? Cersei, Dany and Jon can get all the “glory-a” they need right here.

Game Of Thrones: Fifth new spin-off revealed

Game Of Thrones creator George R R Martin has revealed there is a fifth spin-off in the works.

ENTERTAINMENT SPECIALS:

A Fifth ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff Is Coming Because Four Aren’t Enough

When it comes to spinoff shows, “Game of Thrones” doesn’t want to be spokes on a wheel. It wants to break the wheel!

Series author George R.R. Martin cleared up news about the development of HBO’s four “Game of Thrones” spinoffs on his Not A Blog Sunday, revealing that a fifth show is now in the works with a secret writer. Surprise!

We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.

If there are five spinoffs on the way, HBO might be in need of some of that Lannister gold to pay for them. But Martin himself thinks it’s unlikely that five new shows will be making it on-air.

For now, the author wants us to know that there is an order for five pilot scripts and he is working with all the writers, not just two as previously reported.

Also, the spinoffs aren’t going to be spinoffs like we usually think of them. They’re all going to be prequels from stories we likely haven’t heard before:

So all of you who were hoping for the further adventures of Hot Pie are doomed to disappointment. Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel,’ however, I prefer the term ‘successor show.’ That’s what I’ve been calling them.

But there won’t be any Robert’s Rebellion or Dunk and Egg prequels as of now. Sorry, everyone.

And for those who are wondering, Martin reiterated that he’s still working on his next book in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series, The Winds of Winter. But, oh sweet summer child, you probably shouldn’t expect it to come anytime soon.

At least we have the possibility of five new “Game of Thrones” shows on the way.

Open that wine, Tyrion. It’s time to turn up.

Most Of The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Theories You’re Reading Are True, Says Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

All men must die, except Jaime Lannister ― he’s not ready yet.

That’s according to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the Kingslayer on “Game of Thrones,” set to return with Season 7 on July 16. During an interview with HuffPost on Build Series Monday, the actor refused to name the character he would like to see kill Jaime on the show, saying instead, “I don’t want Jaime to die. I want him to just slowly fade away. Just old age.”

As for other spoilers, Coster-Waldau says they’re definitely out there, and confirms that most of those leaks and theories on the internet are correct.

“What’s interesting, though, is every year there are huge spoilers online where people find out real stuff and they will post it, and you go, ‘Oh my God, they just spoiled the whole season online!’ But then, because there’s 10,000 other spoilers out there, they’re not real. It just gets lost in the shuffle,” he told HuffPost. “So, it’s all out there by the way … if you can find it.”

One of the biggest theories floating around Reddit after the Season 6 finale involved that look Jaime gave Cersei (Lena Headey) when he saw her sitting on the Iron Throne. Fans believe Jaime, like he did with King Aerys II Targaryen, will kill his own sister and lover, due to the fact that she’s slowly becoming the Mad Queen

“People are really reading into that look … I was just going through my grocery list,” Coster-Waldau joked before addressing the theory. “I was very into the scene. It’s interesting, though, how much you read into a look like that, because, it’s like, ‘Oh, clearly he’s going to leave her now. There’s no question. This is it. This is reminding him why he killed the Mad King. Now he’s going to go and kill Cersei. There’s no question about it.’ And it might happen, who knows? I mean, I know, but …”

(TELL US! But, yeah, don’t.)

As for Jaime’s former BFF and possible love interest, Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), the actor says his character is not jealous in the slightest of her seemingly budding romance with Tormund (Kristofer Hivju).

“I don’t think [Jaime] gave her away. I don’t think he’s jealous,” Coster-Waldau said with a smile. “I think it’s a perfect couple ― I think Tormund would rock her world.”

No matter who kills whom or who dates whom, “Game of Thrones” Season 7 is set to be epic. And, well, chilly.

“Winter is here,” Coster-Waldau confirmed to HuffPost, adding of the season, “I hope [fans will be satisfied]. I know we did our best. Everyone worked their asses off.”

Watch the full interview with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, in which he talks about “Game of Thrones” and his new flick “Small Crimes,” below. “Small Crimes” hits Netflix on Friday.

This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Actress Said TV’s ‘Lack Of Diversity’ Hurt Her Self-Esteem As A Child

Actress Nathalie Emmanuel recently opened up about the damaging nature of seeing predominantly white casts on television while growing up.

In an interview with Hunger magazine, the “Game of Thrones” star, who is half Dominican said that she didn’t see people who reflected her racial identity during her childhood.

“For me, when I was growing up, not seeing anyone on television that looked like me or that I could identify with was really hard, and that can affect someone’s self-esteem hugely,” Emmanuel — who plays Missandei, a translator on “Game of Thrones” — told Hunger.

Emmanuel, who also played Ramsey, a computer hacker in “Fast and Furious 7” lauded the movie’s casting for its exemplary diversity. But where the rest of the Hollywood ― whose diversity issue was bought to light in 2016 during the #OscarsSoWhite controversy ― is concerned, she said that despite the attempts at diverse casting, she doesn’t know how long-standing these efforts will be.

“Will it be that they just do the one film and then it goes back?” she questioned. “If you go up for anything, you know there is always a cast of people and a small number of them are [from] a minority.

“The majority of the cast will be white with a few roles from a different ethnicity. Ultimately that’s not the world we live in,” she said.

Overly In-Depth Analysis Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Teaser Might Reveal A Secret

On “Game of Thrones,” the sword Oathkeeper has been there and back a-Gwen.

The sword, which now appears in a new Season 7 teaser, was originally part of Ice, the Valyrian steel greatsword of House Stark. Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) had the Stark sword melted down and reforged into two different blades.

He then gave the reforged sword that became Oathkeeper to his son Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who later gave it to Gwendoline Christie’s character Brienne of Tarth. In Season 6, Brienne tries to give it back to Jaime, as she’s completed her quest to get Sansa (Sophie Turner) to safety, but Jaime doesn’t take it back. Instead, he tells her, “It’s yours. It will always be yours.”

OK. Phew. That’s the sword’s story. Or, it was until the new Season 7 teaser.

The teaser reveals a glamorous, sexy shot of Oathkeeper’s hilt. But wait, something is amiss. Who’s holding it?

The sword should still be with Brienne ― as we recapped, she’s still its owner ― but the hand holding it appears to be covered in freckles.

This is a picture of Gwendoline Christie:

And here’s a zoomed-in version of that picture:

Gasp.

That hand in the teaser and Christie’s hand in the photo look hella different.

Does this reveal a dark secret for Season 7? Will someone else get Oathkeeper? Does this mean Brienne’s end is coming?

The teaser could just be a behind-the-scenes image, but what if it’s not?

Other than unconfirmed leaks, we don’t know a lot about what’s happening in Season 7. Though, there is a theory from A Song of Ice and Fire readers that claims Brienne was secretly killed in George R.R. Martin’s novels by a zombified Catelyn Stark. Perhaps we will see Christie’s character meet her end in Season 7.

But, if the hand isn’t Brienne’s, whose could it be? Here are some suspects:

Suspect #1: Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)

Despite his respect and love for Brienne, could Jaime Lannister have reclaimed Oathkeeper for himself? Did he have her wrapped around his little freckled finger only to betray her?

A day may come when Jaime’s love for Brienne fails, but it is not this day. His hands appear to be clean … and freckle-less.

Suspect #2: Tormund (Kristofer Hivju)

We know Tormund is into Brienne from all the thirsty as heck looks he gave her in Season 6. Could she have finally let her shield down long enough for Tormund to get close?

Better luck next time, dude.

Unless those freckles are just dirt — which, hey, they could be — it’s probably not Tormund.

Dang, man. Keep your cool.

Suspect #3: Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)

Jorah Mormont is the definition of an oath-breaker. The guy fled from Westeros after illegally selling poachers into slavery, and later was secretly spying on his queen, Daenerys Targaryen.

Those are all bad things.

So far, Jorah’s journey has been bumpier than Dany’s first time flying on Drogon.

Khaleesi banished him, he contracted greyscale while attempting to deliver Tyrion to her, and he was banished again before eventually getting on good terms with the Mother of Dragons.

Jorah was already denied the sword of House Mormont, Longclaw, which is now in possession of Jon Snow. Somehow, getting the sword Oathkeeper would let Jorah come full circle.

And, most importantly, the guy appears to have freckly hands:

Boom. Caught freckle-handed.

Could the hand from the teaser belong to one of the suspects above? Or did we awkwardly analyze those hands for nothing?

Both are possible. Both make us uncomfortable.

There is some good news for Brienne fans, though. Freckled hands of various crew members of “Game of Thrones” seem to appear in another “In-Production” teaser from the show.

Plus, another first look shows Lena Headey (Cersei) getting makeup and hair touch-ups behind the scenes.

If the tease with Oathkeeper is only a behind-the-scenes shot, the person holding it may not have an impact on the storyline. It could just be a crew member or stunt coordinator. That’d mean the sword is still safe with Brienne … for now.

We know from the show that all men must die. Hopefully this teaser doesn’t mean that one of our favorite female characters will die, as well.

‘Game of Thrones’ Goes Fashion Week: Front Row at Altuzarra

“Your show on Amazon was great,” a paparazzi shouted at Christina Ricci outside Spring Studios. The actress was on her way inside the Altuzarra show, and it seemed her new Amazon series “Z The Beginning of Everything” was following her.
“People seem to really like it – even the photographers like it,” she said, from inside the show space. The good reception means a likely second season. “We have to wait to get our pickup and then we start developing the second season. You have more freedom,” she said of working with a streaming service like Amazon. “If it makes sense for them economically, then you have the freedom to do it [like a film], should you choose to. And that’s what’s amazing about that. It’s all about the work, the final product, so they support artists and whatever they need to get that great work.”
The frequent showgoer was making her first appearance at New York Fashion Week due to some snowstorm delays. “I was supposed to go to Thakoon but there were weather issues. I wasn’t in Manhattan and I was trying to get in and just couldn’t,” she said. That aside, she’s been following the action remotely. “I’m

We May Already Know The Cliffhanger Coming In ‘Game Of Thrones’

A “huge cliffhanger” is coming …

In a recent interview with Time Out for Netflix’s “iBoy,” Maisie Williams described Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” by saying, “It’s just kind of tumbling now.”

The actress continued:

We’ve come to the climax and it’s rolling down to the end. It’s exciting. I really felt like at the end of last season everything was set up for how it was going to end. Every character came to a little junction in their lives. Now we’re all going to crash down together to however this show ends.

Williams says fans can expect “a huge cliffhanger” on the way, though we may already know what that is.

A number of “Game of Thrones” leaks came out late last year on Reddit. Usually supposed leaks hit the internet and one can quickly dismiss them, but these leaks have gradually been getting confirmed

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead.

One of those leaks posited that the season ends on a pretty major cliffhanger, just like Williams teased.

The Wall will fall at the end of the season, while Jon and Dany have sex.

Wow. Just as Khaleesi supposedly Winter-falls into your arms, the Wall will come crashing down. You know nothing about romance, Jon Snow

As more proof that the teased cliffhanger is the Wall coming down, remember Williams’ verbiage as she described the season: It’s all “tumbling” now. The cast is going to “crash down” together.

It’s doubtful Williams intentionally peppered in words that hint at the ending.

(The actress already went on record saying people who leak spoilers from “Game of Thrones” are sad. A girl hates it.)

But it all fits kind of perfectly, and as the United States Postal Service says, “If it fits, it ships.” Or in Jon and Dany’s case, if their relationship fits, we’ll ‘ship.

Conleth Hill Almost Played A Different Role On ‘Game Of Thrones’

With 30 years in the business, Conleth Hill’s career, well, “Varys,” but how much it changes may be surprising.

The actor told The Huffington Post that with the exception of “Game of Thrones,” he generally doesn’t play the same character multiple times. He switches things up. In fact, Hill said that the only similarity between the mysterious eunuch he plays on the HBO show and the troubled author he portrays in his new thriller, “A Patch of Fog,” is that, you know, he’s both of them. In addition to those roles, Hill is currently in rehearsals for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” in the West End.

Like on “Game of Thrones,” Varys is just a busy guy.

Hill’s character on the HBO show has been known as the Master of Whisperers, so while chatting with the actor about his new projects, we asked about some real-life whispers, too. It may surprise some that Hill confirmed he already made a bid to sit on the Iron Throne as another character.

One time, I saw you dispelled that you were once a married fisherman before becoming an actor.

They took it from the Wikipedia entry, which I didn’t do. I don’t really go, apart from reading The Huffington Post, near the internet, but someone had filled in my Wikipedia with lots of mysterious details, which I have to say I found amusing.

There are other rumors, too.

Don’t believe anything you read.

One says you almost didn’t play your character, Sandy Duffy, in “A Patch of Fog.”

Thankfully, fortuitously, the guy who was gonna play him dropped out. I think before principal photography started, so I didn’t have much time to prepare, but I’m dealing with a great script, and everything I needed was on there.

Another rumor says you originally tried out for Robert Baratheon on “Game of Thrones.”

It is true, to be honest, but I have to say that I came out of the meeting, which went all right, and looked who was in after me, saw who it was, and went, “Well, he’d be all right for it,” and he was, and he got it. You know, that’s showbiz.

(Robert Baratheon was portrayed on “Game of Thrones” by actor Mark Addy.)

So then you had to read for Varys, too?

I read for it, parts of the dungeon scene with Ned and the chest scene where he explains how he was made from sort of a slave to the security of Westeros, and I think once I had already accepted the part, they said, “How do you feel about shaving your head?”

How is it finally getting to keep your hair in “A Patch of Fog”?

It’s seasonal. I cut it out and then it grows back. A bit colder this year because it’s a little bit later, filming well into the winter, but it’s just what I looked like before.

At the heart of your movie is this obsessed fan interacting with his idol, and there are some awkward selfies. What’s been the weirdest fan experience you’ve had so far?

I’ve been very lucky. Most “Game of Thrones” fans are well-mannered and courteous. I have no trouble taking photos with people if they want it. I think the weirdest one was someone came running toward me with their hand in my crotch area, saying, “I wanted to see if something’s really there.”

What? Really? That’s pretty crazy.

They didn’t make contact, so it was OK. Yeah, like I’d be that method.

“A Patch of Fog” is on VOD and iTunes Jan. 24.

We’re Still Reeling After ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Pulled A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Thursday Night

We hope you’re sitting down.

If you’d lost interest in “How To Get Away With Murder” over the last season or two amid the spinning cheerleaders, dizzying flashbacks, flash forwards and those incestuous siblings who ruined Season 2, we forgive you. Things got pretty convoluted there.

But the ABC drama delivered one of its finest hours on Thursday night when it was finally revealed who was under the sheet and found dead in the fire that destroyed Annalise Keating’s home.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the midseason finale of “HTGAWM” titled “Who’s Dead?”

The tragic life of law student Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) was cut short in Thursday night’s episode when his half-burned body was found in the fire during the closing moments of the midseason finale. No, seriously. Like Two-Face-Harvey-Dent-style kind of burned.

This marks the most major death on the series to date since Annalise’s husband Sam was killed in Season 1. “HTGAWM” was always twisty, but we never expected them to off one of the main characters in such a gruesome fashion.

The audience was led to believe Wes was alive and well just two episodes before when we flashed forward to him seemingly selling Annalise out to detectives who were hellbent on pinning a murder on the law professor. But “HTGAWM” has always skillfully used time as disorienting plot device and revealed that this exchange occurred before the fire.

To make matters even worse, we discovered Wes had been killed prior to the explosion, setting up a whole new mystery for the back half of Season 3.

Oh, puppy, we hardly knew you.

Fans promptly freaked out on social media to express their varying degrees of shook-ness after Shondaland claimed another beloved character to roam the TV afterlife with McDreamy and the rest of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast.

Watch HuffPost’s “Thursday on Friday” at 1 p.m. ET Friday to catch our interview with Alfred Enoch.

“How To Get Away With Murder” returns Jan. 19.

A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel Could Actually Happen

More “Game of Thrones” is coming … maybe.

We’ve heard rumors of a “Game of Thrones” movie or prequel for years now. (Years!) And apparently HBO is still pursuing that dream.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the network’s programming president Casey Bloys says HBO is stills in talks with author George R.R. Martin about another series.

Bloys said, “I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks.”

The programming president didn’t specify which parts of Martin’s works could be adapted, but he added that HBO is exploring different “areas.”

What could those “areas” be? Let’s speculate, Crows.

Besides his A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the inspiration for “Game of Thrones,” Martin has his Dunk and Egg novellas, which are prequels to the series. Plus, there is a lot of backstory with Robert’s Rebellion that fans want to see. Robert’s Rebellion is the war that put Robert Baratheon on the throne and eventually led to the craziness Westeros is going through now.

In any case, HBO is fighting to bring more “Thrones” to your faces.

As far as the possibility of expanding “Game of Thrones” Season 8 from the meager 6 episodes we’re reportedly getting, Bloys said, “I’ll take as much as we can get.”

In other words, your watch hasn’t ended just yet.

No, Jon Snow! Aren’t you listening? Not yet!

Leaked ‘Game Of Thrones’ Video May Be Your First Look At Season 6

Filming of “Game of Thrones” season 6 is well underway. Thanks to the obsessive sleuthing of the fandom and some sneaky paparazzi work by enterprising locals, we already know a lot about what’s in store (including the fact that Jon Snow almost certainly did not stay dead). But we haven’t seen any footage from the set — until now.

On Tuesday, Spanish fan site Los Siete Reinos posted a covertly shot video showing what seems to be a sword fight outside the Tower of Joy. The video looks like it was taken on a cellphone, a long distance from the set at the 900-year-old Castillo de Zafra, so you can’t make out much. But there’s clearly man-to-man fighting going on. Take a look:

Los Siete Reinos — Spanish for “The Seven Kingdoms” — posted still photos from the same sequence. They, too, are blurry and shot from afar. But the lack of detail didn’t stop “Game of Thrones” fan site Winter is Coming from speculating that the characters fighting are Ned Stark and Arthur Dayne, and that the woman in white standing near them is Ned’s sister Lyanna.

Fans have suspected for some time that season 6 would include the Tower of Joy sequence. Casting calls for the show included a posting for a character called Legendary Fighter, who many believe is Ser Arthur Dayne, a famed Dornish member of King Aerys’s Kingsguard. The casting call said the character “carries a hugely famous sword on his back.” In “A Song Of Ice And Fire,” the book series upon which “Game of Thrones” is based, Dayne wields a sword called Dawn, which was forged, likely from a meteorite, thousands of years ago before the events of the series.

The Emmy-winning fifth season of “Game of Thrones” brought the show’s plot nearly to the end of the events depicted in the books George R.R. Martin has published thus far, so even diehard readers are in the dark about much of what will take place in season 6.

But the fight at the Tower of Joy is an exception. We got some of the story — or at least Ned Stark’s memory of it many years later — in the first book, A Game of Thrones

The story goes that near the end of Robert’s Rebellion, Ned Stark and six of his companions rode to the castle in the Red Mountains of Dorne, where Prince Rhaegar Targaryen had taken Lyanna Stark after “abducting” her. Rhaegar had named the castle “The Tower of Joy.” When Stark et al. arrived, they encountered three members of the Kingsguard — Dayne, Ser Oswald Whent and Lord Commander Gerold Hightower — guarding the entrance.

A brutal fight ensued. Even though the knights of the Kingsguard were outnumbered, they managed to kill five of Stark’s party. Ned Stark later said that Dayne would have killed him, too, had his old friend Howland Reed — father of Bran’s traveling companions Jojen and Meera Reed — not saved his life. When Stark and Reed entered the tower, they found Lyanna dying in a “bed of blood.”

Here’s where things get really interesting. Before Lyanna died, she made Stark promise something. He never revealed what. But fans think that it concerned Jon Snow — who, the theory goes, was actually the child she had with Rhaegar. The bed was bloody, by this thinking, because Lyanna had just given birth. She made her brother promise to claim that Jon was his own son to keep him safe.

There’s a bit more evidence for the R+L=J theory scattered throughout the books. But it all ultimately rests on the Tower of Joy sequence. Which is assumedly why “Game of Thrones” creators Daniel Benioff and D.B. Weiss chose to film the sequence for the next season. It could be their way of confirming, once and for all, the theory that Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.

It’s still not clear how the sequence will fit into the show. Season 5 began with the first flashback of the series — a childhood memory of Cersei Lannister’s. But everyone present at the fight is dead by the time season 6 starts — except Howland Reed. Many fans believe that Reed — who hasn’t yet made an appearance in the books — will reveal what transpired, and therefore Jon’s parentage, at some point in the last two books.

Maybe that’s what will happen in the show, too. But casting info makes it clear that this isn’t the only flashback we’ll see in season 6. So the prevailing theory instead is that Bran Stark will use his mysterious and growing powers to look back in time, and that the fight at the Tower of Joy will be seen through his mind’s eye.

The strongest evidence of this theory? Isaac Hempstead-Wright, the actor who plays Bran, was allegedly spotted at the Castillo de Zafra this week. At this point in the series, Bran is in a cave north of the Wall, thousands of miles from Dorne, so there’s basically no way he’s going to travel to the Tower of Joy in person.

The bottom line? Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. And we’re finally going to get confirmation this spring.

This Runway Collection Is Giving Us Major Game of Thrones Vibes

Tonight’s Valentino fall 2015 couture collection reminded us that winter is coming.

The show, which took place in Rome, featured regal, moody looks that just screamed Game of Thrones. While it hasn’t been confirmed that designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli are GoT fans, we bet that Cersei, Sansa, Margaery and Daenarys would totally be fans of them. We took the liberty of suggesting gowns from the collection for each of the leading ladies in anticipation of season six.

1. Cersei
Valentino-couture-fall-2015-cersei

Last time we checked in with Cersei, she came back to the palace and she was pretty angry. This embellished gown in emerald and black with feather detail says: “I’m the ruler and I’m gorgeous—now, off with his head!”

2. Margaery
valentino-couture-margaery

Prison could never stop Margaery of the House Tyrell (and reigning queen!) from being stylish and sexy. This quintessential Margaery silhouette with plunging neckline is more somber than the usual, but no less fetching.

3. Sansa
valentino-couture-sansa

Little Sansa is growing up. Do they have sweet sixteen parties in the North? If so, she would look divine in this lace number.

4. Daenaerys

The Mother of Dragons could always use another cape. And look! This one has a gold embroidery of her baby! How sweet.

Did ‘Game Of Thrones’ Showrunners Confirm That Major Jon Snow Theory?

Kit Harington may not be the best at keeping secrets, as his uncut hair at Wimbledon revealed over the weekend. But we expected a lot more secrecy from “Game of Thrones” showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff.

Spoiler alert for the “Game of Thrones” Season 5 finale.

As it turns out, the two writers practically confirmed a major Jon Snow fan theory months ago, and we all missed it. As fans of the show know, Harington’s Jon Snow was killed off in the “GoT” Season 5 finale. While this could mean Jon is simply dead, fans have speculated numerous ways the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch could eventually return. One of those theories is that Jon will warg into his direwolf Ghost, or that he possibly already warged in the final moments of the episode. While this is just a theory, Weiss and Benioff have already discussed it in public.

Earlier this year, Weiss, Benioff, Harington and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) discussed the series during a roundtable at the Oxford Union. When a fan asked what other character Harington and Bradley would want to play on the series, Harington said, “I’d like to be a warg. I’d like to put myself into a wolf.” Yes, Harington actually said those words before we ever saw Jon Snow get stabbed.

Even more shocking is what Weiss said in response. “Two words for you: Season 6.” Either Weiss was just joking and playing into the fan theory, or he accidentally let a huge spoiler slip. Following the Season 5 finale, Harington flat out told Entertainment Weekly that he’s “dead” and “not coming back next season.” But that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see Jon outside of his physical body, whether that happens in Season 6 or possibly Season 7. Or perhaps it was just a cruel joke and Jon is really gone for good.

All The Sex And Nudity In Season 5 Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ (NSFW)

Warning: The following video contains sexual content and many “Game of Thrones” spoilers. Those under 18 should not view it. Thank you.

On Sunday, “Game of Thrones” finished its fifth season, which means it’s once again time for a Huffington Post tradition: Our scholarly video round-up of all the sex and nudity on Season 5.

With roughly 6 minutes and 40 seconds of sex scenes and/or nakedness, the critically acclaimed show came back from its Season 4 “adult content” low of under 6 minutes. Still, it was unable to compete with the first three seasons’ excessive nudity, which inspired TV critic Myles McNutt to coin the term “sexposition”

In terms of the nature of the naughty, as is often the case with “Game of Thrones,” it was a mix of tantalizing and horrifying. Fortunately, perhaps learning from their previous experience, the showrunners spared us from witnessing the season’s most vile sex act –- the rape of Sansa Stark — on camera. But there were still plenty of uncomfortable moments, most notably Cersei Lannister’s dehumanizing “walk of shame.” It’s a sequence responsible for nearly a third of the nudity this season, and some very conflicting emotions for “Game of Thrones” fans in a love/hate relationship with the Queen Regent.

Check out the full, very NSFW collection in the video below. Hopefully all the body heat can keep you warm during the long winter before the premiere of Season 6.

You can also watch the “Game of Thrones” Seasons 1 and 2 sex and nudity compilation, the Season 3 compilation and the Season 4 compilation.

The title of the Season 5 finale, “Mother’s Mercy,” is giving rise once again to speculation that Lady Stoneheart, aka the zombified version of Catelyn Stark, may be making an appearance, and this time it’s a pretty strong case.

The main evidence is that one of Stoneheart’s aliases is “Mother Mercy,” according to the appendix of George R.R. Martin’s novel A Feast for Crows. She is also referred to as “Mother Merciless” in the book.

Adding support, there’s a Season 6 casting call for a character who sounds like Septon Meribald. It’s on her journey with Meribald that Brienne actually meets Stoneheart in the books.

Now, “Mother’s Mercy” seems like it’d be a pretty obvious giveaway, but just because there are hints, it definitely doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing. The showrunners and Catelyn Stark actress Michelle Fairley have repeatedly shot down rumors that the character will show up; past teases of an appearance have obviously not amounted to much; and, as the Westeros.org Twitter account notes, “Mother’s Mercy” is different than the Stoneheart moniker “Mother Mercy”:

Damn. Why’d they have to include that apostrophe? All apostrophes must die!

The synopsis from HBO also doesn’t say anything about Stoneheart or her revenge:

Stannis marches. Dany is surrounded by strangers. Cersei (Lena Headey) seeks forgiveness. Jon is challenged.

Still, as Vanity Fair points out, the episode titles often cover a lot of storylines, and there may be a chance for Stoneheart to appear and dish out some of her special brand of “mercy” …

Correction: An earlier version identified “Mother’s Mercy” as the Season 6 finale instead of Season 5.

Coldplay Wrote A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Musical For Red Nose Day

Ever wonder what a “Game of Thrones” musical would sound like? Now you don’t have to, thanks to Coldplay.

Chris Martin and the rest of his bandmates penned a “GoT” musical sketch in support of NBC’s Red Nose Day, “a campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty.” The network teased the sketch, which will air on Thursday, with two clips. The first features Peter Dinklage singing as Tyrion about all the deaths in the HBO series:

The second has a more Coldplay-esque mellow tempo with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau singing as Jaime asking Cersei to lend him a hand (ha ha):

The collaboration between Coldplay and the HBO show is not much of a surprise. Fans will remember that the band’s drummer Will Champion had a cameo in the Red Wedding episode. Now perhaps Tyrion and Jorah will sing some Westerosi tunes this season.

“Game of Thrones” airs on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.

A Nearly Unrecognizable Game of Thrones Actress, and More Best Dressed From BAFTA TV Awards

Across the pond in London last night, Brits celebrated their TV stars with the BAFTA TV Awards, and the fashion, as you’d hope, was simply smashing (Briticism required). The best-dressed mix included actresses we’ve have grown to love, plus new names with style so sharp (not to mention a Game of Thrones actor or two), it might be time to start tuning in internationally. Take a look:

sophie-mcshera-black-white-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
Sophie McShera, Downton Abbey‘s Daisy, still surprises when she’s in anything but a kitchen apron (and there have been so many seasons for us to get used to the phenomeon!). Last night, she picked an elegantly simple combo of floor-sweeping skirt and cropped top.

maisie-williams-blue-lace-dress-bafta-tv-awards
The other surprise glamour girl was Maisie Williams, who looked sweet and super feminine in a periwinkle lace pick by Self Portrait. Her Game of Thrones arc might have her out of the boyish togs, but it’s still doubtful that anything this divine is coming up for Arya.

ophelia-lovibond-snake-print-dress-bafta-tv-awards
British beauty Ophelia Lovibond has made her mark in U.S. television, appearing stateside in Elementary, and one could argue our style sense has rubbed off on her. Rather than go the prim English rose route, she picked a crop-top gown with a scaly-but-glam snake print.

donna-air-pink-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The best angle of Brit TV presenter Donna Air’s peachy gown was from the side, where the shape of the sculpted hip panels was on full display. That construction wasn’t just for looks, either—the custom House of Fraser piece had LED lights on the sides and bodice that lit up.

dianna-agron-black-sheer-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The night’s award for chicest American in London certainly went to Dianna Agron, who did all-black with sheer sleeves that reached to her wrists. Her top is from Simone Rocha and the skirt is Comme des Garçons.

For further proof that it’s insane to see favorite TV characters IRL, please reference all of these Game of Thrones women.

‘Mad Men’ & ‘Game Of Thrones’ Had No Time For People With Poor Grammar Sunday Night

One would normally assume that “Mad Men” and “Game of Thrones” have little in common, aside from the fact that both are television dramas that air back-to-back on Sunday nights. But this Sunday’s episodes of both series had one very similar thread: if you don’t have good grammar, you’re going to get schooled.

Stannis Baratheon, the Rightful King of Westeros Grammar, and Don Draper both threw shade at the simpletons who spewed incorrect grammar in their presence on the most recent episodes of “GoT” and “Mad Men.”

Stannis’ grammar lesson:

Don’s grammar lesson:

We’re hardly surprised, though. Stannis the Mannis has corrected Ser Davos’ grammar in the past (with the same “fewer” vs. “less” debate), and Don works with words on a daily basis. Moral of the story: all (mad) men must know proper grammar.

“Game of Thrones” airs on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO, followed by “Mad Men” at 10:00 p.m. ET on AMC.

Here’s Which ‘Game Of Thrones’ Character Snoop Dogg Would Smoke Weed With

It’s no surprise that Snoop Dogg is one of the biggest “Game of Thrones” fans outside of the Seven Kingdoms. He raps on the “Lannister’s Anthem” on the “Catch the Throne, Volume II” mixtape, and he even got stoned with Seth Rogen and recapped “GoT.”

But if the Snoop D-O-double-G could blaze with anyone in Westeros, who would it be?

The Daily Beast caught up with the rapper to find out. “Of course Tyrion Lannister! He knows how to party,” Snoop said. (And we totally agree.) Tyrion is also Snoop’s favorite character in the HBO series. But why, you ask? “Cuz he likes to have a good time and party with bad b**ches,” Snoop told the Daily Beast. Yup.

Although Snoop loves “Game of Thrones” with all of his heart, we’re not sure he knows the show is just a show. While talking about his upcoming album “Bush” with the New York Post, Snoop explained why he’s so into “GoT.”

I watch it for historic reasons to try to understand what this world was based on before I got here,” Snoop said. “I like to know how we got from there, to here, and the similarities between then and now.” Yes, that is an actual thing Snoop Dogg actually said about a TV show with dragons and frozen zombies.

But then again, author George R.R. Martin has said his books are heavily influenced by history, and the Red Wedding and even The Mountain vs. The Viper fight were historically based. So Snoop isn’t that far off.

“Game of Thrones” airs on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.

‘SNL’ Introduces A New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Kingdom With ‘Boyz N The Hood’ Spoof

Game of Thrones” is about to introduce us to a new region of Westeros, but we’re not talking about Dorne. We’re heading to South Centros.

“Saturday Night Live” imagined what a crossover between “Game of Thrones” and John Singleton’s “Boyz n the Hood” would look like, resulting in an eighth kingdom.

The “SNL” parody features Ice Cube (Kenan Thompson) decked out in Jon Snow-like attire, Leslie Jones spoofing Brienne, and host Taraji P. Henson getting emotional over the Red Wedding.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Kingslayer himself, also shows up with a message for the haters. This probably isn’t the movie spinoff George R.R. Martin had in mind.

“Game of Thrones” returns Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

We Taste Tested The New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Beer, Three-Eyed Raven Dark Saison

If you can’t wait until Sunday for the return of “Game of Thrones,” you may have luck tempering your excitement by sipping on the latest official beer produced for the series, a dark saison ale by the name of “Three-Eyed Raven.”

As with previous beers produced for HBO’s hit show, Three-Eyed Raven is the brainchild of Brewery Ommegang, a New York brewery that specializes in Belgian-style suds. And just like the show’s own three-eyed raven, a quick glance at the beer reveals a mysterious, brooding creature.

Before you take flight in search of your own bottle, read on for our take on the beer, a sample of which HBO and Brewery Ommegang sent The Huffington Post to review.

HuffPost’s tasting panel consisted of eight people across the beer spectrum, including an admitted wine drinker, a home brewer, two noted Denver beer bloggers, and a professional brewer at Avery Brewing Co.

In Stark contrast to the three-eyed raven of the show, you’re unlikely to gain special powers or any clear insight if you spend too much time with its boozy cousin, which rings in at 7.2 percent alcohol by volume.

As you’ll note from the above photo, Three-Eyed Raven pours deep, murky, and dark. Darker than the cloaks that enrobe the men of the Night’s Watch. Darker, even, than George R.R. Martin’s black sense of humor.

The appearance, however, belies the beer’s flavor itself, which reviewers described as more of a strong, bitter wheat. Initial flavors of light citrus fruit quickly dissipated into a dry, hoppy finish with quite a few tannins. Literature accompanying our samples described that hoppy finish as “herbal” with notes of “dry rye,” and while some panelists enjoyed it, others found it a little too bitter. Readers who don’t enjoy hops would be well advised to age their bottles a couple months, which should mellow that flavor significantly.

A thick, well-developed tan head rested comfortably atop our pours, though on our chilled sample the nose was barely perceptible. In a slightly warmer bottle, one reviewer found aromas of banana, phenols, and caramel, though they weren’t immediately apparent unless you’re really looking for them.

game of thrones beer

While the pairing notes supplied to HuffPost recommended “roasted chicken and pork,” and “grilled vegetables, goat cheese and smoked gouda,” our panel went an entirely different direction and imagined enjoying this beer with a nice Sunday brunch. Think hearty buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup, said one participant, or a savory apple tart with green chile.

So is Three-Eyed Raven worth seeking out ahead of the show’s April 12 premiere? Our reviewers said “yes” for the novelty factor at an MSRP of $ 9.50, but were otherwise on the fence, especially at any higher price point. We recommend buyers age the beer for a couple months for the bitterness to mellow and the malty profile to come to the forefront.

Catch Up On ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 In Under 8 Minutes

With all the blood, death and dragons last season, it’s probably hard for even George R.R. Martin to keep track of what’s going on in “Game of Thrones.”

Well, there’s good news, people: The Fine Bros have come to the rescue. In their latest video, the bros recap everything that happened in Season 4 of “GoT.” In the past, the pair has caught us up on “The Walking Dead” and prepared everyone for the Oscars, but this was a task more daunting than winning the Iron Throne itself. Impressively, the bros manage to cover every major plot point of Season 4 in one take and all under 8 minutes. And for those a little further behind, the bros have a video covering the first three seasons as well.

If you know nothing about “GoT,” this one is for you, Jon Snow.

Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” airs Sunday, April 12, on HBO.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Reveals First Official Footage Of The Cast From Season 5

HBO had previously released short nine-second snippets from Season 5 of “Game of Thrones.” But finally the network gave fans a deeper look in the network’s annual year-end recap. The video offers a glimpse of a not-so-happy Cersei, a bearded Tyrion, and Jon Snow with Olly and Arya (likely arriving in Braavos). It’s not much, but it’s a bit more than the speed-of-light teasers that HBO has been sending fans sporadically.

Here’s What The Most Controversial ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5 Scene Could Be About

“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner has said before that there will be “big changes” for her character, Sansa, in Season 5, and now she has discussed one scene that has been the center of months of speculation. In a red carpet interview at the British Independent Film Awards, Turner told a reporter about her favorite scene from the upcoming Season 5, which turned out to be a very intense one. “There was one scene that I did do which was super, super traumatic, and I love doing those scenes,” Turner said. “It was just really kind of horrible for everyone to be on set and watch.”

Besides hinting at the “darker direction” the new season will take, Turner wouldn’t reveal anything more about the scene. But it may be a contentious Sansa chapter in George R.R. Martin’s upcoming The Winds of Winter book, which Vulture hinted at last year.

Fans of the books have devoted numerous threads to discussing the chapter, and now with Turner’s interview, they are theorizing even more on Reddit. Here’s what fans are speculating:

WARNING: Serious book spoilers lie ahead.

Will Littlefinger rape Sansa?

This is one of the main theories fans have been speculating about since the reveal of the controversial chapter. When we last left off with Littlefinger in “Game of Thrones” Season 4, he had given Sansa a creepy kiss and then killed Lysa. He’s overly protective of and obsessive with Sansa, so a forced sexual encounter could make sense for his character. This is also highly likely since Turner previously said that one of her favorite scenes from “GoT” was when Sansa “nearly got raped” in Season 2.

Will Sansa kill Littlefinger?

This theory could go multiple ways. One is that Sansa could kill Littlefinger if the previous theory is true, and he attempts to rape her. Another is that Sansa could use powers of seduction to kill him, as Redditor Eitjr suggests. A third reason for Sansa to kill Littlefinger is, of course, if she discovers how he betrayed her father.

Will Sansa kill Robin Arryn?

tv show gifs
Image via Tumblr

This is another very popular fan theory and also supports Turner’s description of a “super traumatic” scene. Near the end of A Feast For Crows, Robin Arryn becomes very close to Sansa (she turns into a motherly figure after his mother’s death). Littlefinger also arranges a marriage between Sansa (who is living under an alias in the books) and Harry the Heir. The theory proposes that once Sansa marries Harry, she will have reason to get rid of Robin so that her new husband can rule the Vale with her by his side. Redditor ManiyaNights also suggested ways that Sansa could kill Robin secretly, so as to possibly make Littlefinger look guilty, and thus rid of him too. We’ve already seen Sansa release some frustration toward Sweetrobin last season with that epic slap, and the killing of a child would definitely be hard to watch, even by “GoT” standards.

Will Sansa take on Lady Stoneheart’s vengeance streak?

Redditor HGSIOUHGIR put forth a very crazy theory that suggests the show’s writers will give Lady Stoneheart’s role to Sansa. Book readers, and those who follow Reddit and forums closely, will know that Lady Stoneheart is Catelyn Stark resurrected from the dead. At the end of A Storm of Swords, Lady Stoneheart goes on a killing spree against anyone and everyone who betrayed her and Robb. This would mean that if the show decided to not bring back Michelle Fairley’s Catelyn, perhaps they would have Sansa enact Lady Stoneheart’s vengeance instead, hence possibly the trauma Turner mentioned. While this sounds awesome, it also seems like a rather unlikely choice by the writers.

“Game of Thrones” will return in 2015.

Jason Momoa’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Audition Tape Is Better Than You’d Imagine

Khal Drogo is no doubt a beast of a man, so it would only make sense that Jason Momoa’s “Game of Thrones” audition tape would take that to the max.

In the audition tape, which was originally uploaded to YouTube in 2012, but has since gained more traction, the actor doesn’t brood or speak Drogo’s native tongue, Dothraki. Instead, Momoa breaks out into a Haka, or an ancestral war cry or dance of the Māori people of New Zealand that was typically performed before battle. The dance is incredibly intense and a bit terrifying — this guy would definitely give you a golden crown if you messed with him.

Back in August when Momoa stopped by AOL, the actor said he was originally given a Drogo scene to read for his audition that consisted of the character menacingly saying “no” over and over (not very exciting). After a suggestion from an actor friend, Momoa decided to try out the Haka for this audition. The aggressive dance, which Momoa described as “not a scene you do before a love scene,” impressed D. B. Weiss and David Benioff so much that they had him come back and perform it for a second time, which is what the above video shows.

Momoa is such a pro at the Haka (he even did it on a beach in 2013) that we wonder if he’ll incorporate it into his Aquaman.

Pedro Pascal Really Wishes He Were Still On ‘Game Of Thrones,’ Even In Small Part

Pedro Pascal isn’t that different from most “Game of Thrones” viewers — he wishes his character, the charismatic Oberyn Martell, was still on the HBO show.

Pascal was at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24, to launch a new “Game of Thrones” beer from Brewery Ommegang. After a packed audience watched Pascal tap the first keg of the amber-brown Valar Morghulis beer, the actor talked to HuffPost TV about missing his “Game of Thrones” role, and dealing with people who want to squeeze his head.

HuffPost TV: How many of the people who walk up to you and want to say hello also want to squeeze your head?

Pedro Pascal: Like, they want to puncture my eyeballs? A lot of them. I would say more than half of the people who want to get a picture. I always feel a little guilty when I say, “How about I just smile?” Because I don’t want to have to re-create the moment over and over again.

Yeah, that’s a little troubling. You don’t want to have to go to that place again and again.

Yeah, I don’t want to have to re-live the trauma.

Would you rather still be on “Game of Thrones,” or would you rather have the impact that you had, as the character and the way he left?

I think that ultimately, selfishly, I would want to still be on “Game of Thrones,” only because they are the greatest people I’ve ever worked with. Ninety percent of the work is taken care of by the writing — more than that. Ninety-nine percent is taken care of by writing that is that good, and that’s not something that I’m used to. On top of that, it’s the best crew, the best design team and the greatest cast I’ve ever worked with. I had such a good time, and I’ve never been so challenged. Even if my part would shrink to a fraction of what it was, to get to be there and be around everybody and hang out, it’s probably what I would opt for.

I think I’m just going to guilt [executive producers] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss]. I’m just going to describe my depression to the point that they’re like, “All right! Ellaria is going to have a dream!” [laughs]

Is it your favorite role?

It’s the best role I’ve ever played on screen, without question.

You said it was challenging — what was the biggest challenge of playing Oberyn Martell?

I would say that the character had a confidence that was really important to portray. Any human being would have trouble feeling that level of confidence — a dangerous sort of confidence, you know? He sort of owns his overconfidence — with major consequences, as you could see. And then physically, it was a very challenging role.

Also, I was very aware of the series, as millions are. I was a big fan of the show, and it was the first time I was ever asked to be part of something I was so hyperaware of as an audience member. So there was a lot to battle internally there. But David and Dan made it so easy.

Even though you were aware of the show, were you prepared for the fandom and events like this and how the fans have been to you?

I think the best thing to do is to play stupid. [laughs] It’s all so exciting and you always want to be careful with your expectations and whether they’re negative or positive. So I just sort of played dumb and had a job to do, which was so easy to do — they loved the character so much, and that was on my side from the beginning. The writers and the directors, they loved on the character so hard. So there was that easy focus, and then it was not up to me in terms of how it would be received.

12 Times The Women Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Were Super Fierce

For all of us die-hard “Game Of Thrones” fans, this Sunday is a sad one. The season four finale is upon us, and while it’s rumored to be the best yet, Sundays without GoT are no Sundays at all.

While the men of GoT are badass in their own right, from Jon Snow’s daring adventures beyond the wall to Tyrion Lannister’s perpetual wit (seriously, if Tyrion dies I will riot), it’s the ladies who kick some serious ass — and they don’t even need a sword to do it. And although not all of the female characters are beloved (Cersei Lannister better get the “Red Wedding” treatment pronto), there’s no denying that they’re all impressively fierce.

In honor of these killer female characters, we’ve put together a list of 12 times the ladies of “Game Of Thrones” were way fiercer than the men over the past four seasons:

1. When Daenerys Targaryen supported #YesAllWomen without even realizing it.

2. That time Brienne of Tarth fought a bear… and lived.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Episode 9 Recap: ‘The Watchers On The Wall’

Welcome to “Game of Moans,” the weekly recap of “Game of Thrones” Season 4 that highlights all the moan-worthy, gasp-filled, OMG moments that litter the Seven Kingdoms. In other words, you can get a traditional recap anywhere, so here’s all the sex, bloodshed, and WTF moments (the good stuff) that went down this week:

(Spoiler alert for “GoT” Season 4, Episode 9 “The Watchers On the Wall.” Warning: Some images below show very graphic violence.)

June 8’s “The Watchers On The Wall” served up 35 minutes of non-stop bloody, nerve-wracking action as the Wildlings arrived at Castle Black to fight the Night’s Watch. While Jon Snow can definitely kick some ass with his sword fighting skills, an unlikely hero emerged in this episode. Sam Tarly, previously the most naive and timorous character on the show, finally manned up by not only killing a Wilding, but by protecting his woman, getting his first kiss, and showing way more courage and wisdom than we ever could’ve expected. This was your night, Sam.

The Watch-Out-For-The-Giant Moan
The Wildlings didn’t just bring way more men than the Night’s Watch, they brought giants, and even giants sitting atop elephants! Giant Number One got really pissed off that his buddy Giant Number Two got killed. So he casually shot an arrow up towards the wall, hitting a guy and literally making him fly backwards off of the wall, landing on the ground below. Ouch.

tv show gifs

The Fuck-Yeah-Sam! Moan
As I said above, it was a surprise to see Sam finally all grown up and matured. He gave his friend an honest pep talk, held him in his arms as he died and didn’t flee from battle, as he would’ve unquestionably done before. His best moment came when, instead of cowering under the Thenn charging at him, he loaded up his crossbow and — BAM! Samwell Tarly killed a live human, and it was a massive terrifying dude. (I literally clapped and cheered in this victorious moment.)

tv show gifs

The Ghost-Is-Gonna-Get-Ya Moan
I almost forgot that Jon found Ghost at Craster’s and took him back to Castle Black. The poor pup has probably been pretty lonely and in need of some exercise now that he’s not being warged into by Bran. He definitely let out all that pent-up energy on a Wildling’s throat though.

tv show gifs

The Hammer Head Moan
Jon showed some really impressive swordplay while fighting Styr, and I don’t know how he lasted as long as he did against the burly Thenn. Jon got his fair share of bruises (that face-smashing was pretty awful), but let’s not forget that Jon has Stark in his blood, and the Stark’s don’t go down easy. Finally, Jon grabbed a hammer and took out Stry (à la Ryan Gosling in “Drive”). And it was nasty.

tv show gifs

The Swinging Anchor Moan
You gotta give it to the Night’s Watch, they came up with some pretty clever ways to take out the Wildlings. Suspending the two guys off the wall was a great trick, as well as the barrel launching. But the real secret weapon was tucked away in the ice. To stop the Wildlings from reaching the top of the Wall, they just casually thought, “Hey, why don’t we use that giant anchor we have hidden beneath the ice?”

tv show gifs

The Shot-Through-The-Heart Moan
Love may bring an end to your duty, but it could also bring an end of your life. Poor Ygritte has thought about killing Jon for so long that when the moment finally came, her emotions overwhelmed her. You can’t blame her though, for wanting to kill him and not being able to. At least they had a few moments together as Jon held her in his arms as she died. I was really hoping he’d at least mention the “L” word or something sweet, but I guess the point got across. RIP, girl, I will miss your ferocious badassery.

Some thoughts:

  • If Jon Snow ever has a son, that sex talk is going to be super awkward.
  • SAM’S FIRST KISS!!!!
  • Where did all this newfound wisdom on life and death and courage come from Mr. Samwell Tarly? Sorry Jon, but you truly know nothing compared to your BFF.
  • That tracking shot of the battle on the ground was fantastic. (Trying to join the Epic TV Tracking Shots Club, guys?
  • Ygritte couldn’t have had better last words.
  • The writers and George R.R. Martin both said this episode was bigger and better than “Blackwater,” but I have to disagree. This was no doubt a fun, action-packed battle filled with both cringe and cheer-worthy moments, and as far as scale, it was definitely bigger. Yet it wasn’t as clever and thrilling, or as emotionally straining, as “Blackwater.” However, that may be because I’m not nearly as invested in Castle Black’s affairs or Jon Snow as I am in the King’s Landing crowd.
  • Wait, can we all stop and mourn the depressing fact that only one episode is left in Season 4? I really wish the writers had switched this episode with last week’s. It’s a cruel tease to take us away from all the King’s Landing drama for a whole week, and there is still so many stories we need to revisit. Can we please get a bonus episode?
  • By the way, I’m still not over Oberyn. Being away from King’s Landing for a week did not distract me. Nice try, Dan Weiss and David Benioff.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Episode 8 Recap: ‘The Mountain And The Viper’

Welcome to “Game of Moans,” the weekly recap of “Game of Thrones” Season 4 that highlights all the moan-worthy, gasp-filled, OMG moments that litter the Seven Kingdoms. In other words, you can get a traditional recap anywhere, so here’s all the sex, bloodshed, and WTF moments (the good stuff) that went down this week:

(Spoiler alert for “GoT” Season 4, Episode 8 “The Mountain and The Viper.” Warning: Some images below show nudity and very graphic violence.)

We had to wait two whole weeks for “Game of Thrones” to return, but it was definitely worth it. “The Mountain and The Viper” delivered one of the best duels the series has ever seen, and it was so horrific you probably weren’t be able to sleep afterwards.

The Don’t-Mess-With-A-Wilding Moan

Ygritte may be a woman, but she’s as fierce as any Wildling when the thirst for blood is high. That brothel girl sure learned that quickly when she got a spear through her chest. But just when you think Ygritte is a ruthless killer to the bone, a tad bit of motherly compassion spills through when she lets Gilly and little Sam Jr. live. Ygritte, or shall we call her the Westeros Black Mamba?

The Sneak-A-Peek Moan
Grey Worm may not have his stones and/or pillar, but that doesn’t mean a gorgeous naked woman doesn’t catch his eye. And hey dude, you’re not fooling anyone. Missandei knows exactly what you’re looking at. Try taking a tip out of Littlefinger’s creeper book.

The Don’t-Trust-Anybody Moan

The poor ironborn at Moat Cailin fell for Reek’s impression of Theon (and what a great performance that was, up until he nearly lost it). Ramsay trampled through and slaughtered everyone in his typical gruesome fashion.

The GO-OBERYN! Moan

Everyone except Cersei and Tywin was rooting for Oberyn in this tense duel. The Viper is certainly a skilled fighter (or shall I say dancer, since those moves looked more like ice dancing with a spear) as he dodged and ducked the Mountain for most of the fight. It was quiet a spectacle to watch and the moment Oberyn knocked down Gregor Clegane was one of the most victorious of the season.

But then there was that moment, the moment we know all too well from movies and TV when the hero almost brings the villain to his death, but decides to boast for a minute. And then …

The Oh-No-No-NO!!!! Moan

… it was Oberyn’s downfall. A winning fighter can’t be an emotional fighter, and the Dorne charmer let his emotions get the best of him. Once The Mountain knocked him down it was clearly the end. But he didn’t just break the poor guy’s neck or slice his throat — he gave him the absolute grisliest, most horrific, most stomach-turning death we’ve ever seen on the series, and possibly all of TV (including the nightmare-inducing “Hannibal” deaths). Merely shoving Oberyn’s eyes into his head wasn’t enough — he had to squeeze his head until it literally exploded. Nasty. Horrifying. So, so depressing.

Some thoughts:

  • Next time you play Guess That Tune, try tricking your friends with a Westeros song.
  • Finally Missandei is getting more lines and not just translating!
  • The only way to survive in these parts is to join the powerful, and Sansa has definitely learned a thing or two since Season 1. But damn girl, I did not see that change coming. *Slow clap*
  • … But then again, that got way creepy way fast between Littlefinger and Sansa. He’s giving such creepy pedophile vibes and her cleavage in that Maleficent-esque dress are not helping.
  • Hey Jorah, if you’re going to lie to and betray anyone, make sure it’s not the most powerful woman in the Seven Kingdoms, as well as the woman you love. She will kick you to the curb.
  • Ramsay Snow Bolton just got way too big of an ego boost.
  • WILL ARYA AND SANSA FINALLY MEET UP?! WHEN, WHEN, WHEN?
  • “Every Type Of Death Ever,” a new book from Tyrion Lannister featuring a new addition: “cousincide.”
  • Jaime was seriously enjoying the hell out of that fight. He looked like he was watching the damn Super Bowl. All he needed was a bowl of popcorn in that big metal hand.
  • Pedro Pascal, you will truly be missed.
  • Dear “GoT” directors and writers: Can you please, please stop torturing us with these traumatic ending shots of Tyrion’s fear-filled face? They are heartbreaking and I can’t take it anymore.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: ‘The Laws Of Gods And Men’

Welcome to “Game of Moans,” the weekly recap of “Game of Thrones” Season 4 that highlights all the moan-worthy, gasp-filled, OMG moments that litter the Seven Kingdoms. In other words, you can get a traditional recap anywhere, so here’s all the sex, bloodshed, and WTF moments (the good stuff) that went down this week:

(Spoiler alert for “Game of Thrones” Season 4, Episode 6 “The Laws of Gods and Men.”)

As usual, Sunday night’s (May 11) episode, “The Laws of Gods and Men,” was fantastic, as well as heartbreaking. The two most tortured souls in “GoT,” Theon/Reek and Tyrion, had such emotional scenes this week, and both Alfie Allen and Peter Dinklage gave some of their best performances of the series.

The Holy-Crap-This-Dude-Is-Crazy Moan
Ramsay Snow is one of the most screwed up villiains “GoT” has ever seen and maybe even TV as a whole. He’s such a psycho it’s hard to not gasp in amazement and horror at his every evil move (or maybe I’m still in shock to see Iwan Rheon be so cruel after loving his “Misfits” character). Of course he exits his bedroom after ear-shattering sex covered in blood and scratches. Of course he smiles gleefully while hacking up men.

The Dragon Attack Moan
What a gorgeous, peaceful scene of a young boy watching his father’s goats grazing on hills of gently swaying grass. It was one of the most beautiful scenes of the season. But this is “Game of Thrones” guys, and beauty and peace are not things that last for long in the Seven Kingdoms. Up comes one of Dany’s dragons who proceeds to barbecue some grub just like it’s a hot July afternoon.

The Oh-No-She-Didn’t Moan
I was not expecting Shae to testify; nice little curve ball, Tywin. More importantly though, I don’t find her anger towards Tyrion completely justified. Yes, he broke her heart rather terribly, but we all know that he only acted that way out of love and to protect her. He never should’ve foolishly believed he could keep her safe in King’s Landing; that was his most selfish mistake. But to betray him like she did to the point of possibly causing his murder? That’s just too far, Shae.

The Fuck-Yeah-Tyrion! Moan
Good god, I love Tyrion. The last scene was absolutely incredible and as I said above, one of (if not the) best performances from Dinklage in the show yet. I was almost close to tears during the second half of the trial, mainly because I thought he was going to be killed (no, I don’t read the books), but also because I felt damn proud of him.

Some thoughts:

  • That opening shot was fantastic. I’m not sure why, but the photography this episode was more stunning than usual.
  • LOL, pirate jokes.
  • Further on what I said above (because it just can’t be expressed enough), Ramsay is so horribly horribly evil. Now that Theon has completely morphed into Reek, he wants Reek to pretend to be Theon?! Can Theon/Reek do it? If he acts like Theon could the familiarity of it remind him of who he really is? This will be really interesting …
  • Damn, Daenerys has the most titles of anyone in this show. You think they’d use some abbreviations for her long introduction, especially when she has over 200 meet and greets.
  • So it’s official, Varys is a asexual. (Not surprising.)
  • Jaime is just getting more and more valiant. He’s proven to be such a selfless hero since that rape scene that it almost feels like the writers are trying to make up for it. Or maybe this is just further proof that the rape was executed very badly on the show’s part.
  • That trial was so tense. It felt like a “Law and Order” episode.
  • I vote that Tyrion calls on Brienne to fight for him in the trial. (Please!!)
