Todd Snyder Men’s Spring 2019

Todd Snyder closed New York Fashion Week: Men’s on a high note, sending out a feel-good collection full of bright colors and a youthful attitude that he titled “The American Tourist.”
“I played a lot with a mix of sartorial and campy references,” he said backstage before the show, where truffle popcorn and beer was served.
The opening look set the tone for the collection: a yellow T-shirt with a photo of a Waffle House that was taken by folk rocker Gerry Beckley of the group America. A series, all shot by the musician, are to make their debut for spring.
Snyder, the king of collaborations, unveiled other partnerships at the show including a line of terry-cloth bucket hats with Kangol, high-top tie-dye sneakers with Novesta, and perhaps the most striking, archival Hawaiian prints from Reyn Spooner that he used most successfully on an updated suit. “It’s the modern leisure suit,” he said.
His longtime partnership with Champion was also on display in bomber jackets, paneled sweatshirts and underwear. It even appeared as a side stripe on a plaid patterned suit.
Another play on the Americana theme came with the introduction of a new logo — “Snyder’s” in retro block letters — that he used

Todd Snyder Opens City Gym 2.0 Pop-up in Flatiron District

NEW YORK — The Todd Snyder brand has grown quite a bit since the first City Gym opened in collaboration with Champion Sportswear in NoLIta in 2013.
Not only has the label been sold to American Eagle Outfitters, but the designer has operated his own eponymous store in the Madison Park district for the last year. He has also kept busy working on collaborations with brands as varied as Timex and New Era.
But Snyder still found the time to whip up the second iteration of his original retail concept, a pop-up called City Gym 2.0 that opens today at 108 Fifth Ave. at 16th Street.
“The first one did so well, it was open for 1 and a half years,” he said during a walk-through of the store on Thursday. “We had an opportunity to take over this space, so we decided to open City Gym 2.0, a more modern take on what we did downtown.”
The original pop-up had more of a locker room aesthetic, but this has “more of a heritage vibe,” he said.
The store, located across from the Google pop-up, formerly housed North Sails. As a result, Snyder said the location didn’t require a lot of heavy lifting to convert

Todd Chrisley Wishes Daughter Savannah a Happy Birthday With This Sweet Tribute: ‘How I Love This Girl’

Happy birthday, Savannah Chrisley!

Todd Chrisley‘s daughter celebrated her 20th birthday on Friday and received several well-wishes from her family members on Instagram.

Her father posted a sweet birthday message, complete with a photo gallery of the two, writing in the caption, “Oh how I love this girl @savannahchrisley Happy Birthday my sweet girl! I am so proud to be your dad! #cantbelieveyouare20 #happybirthday.”

Savannah’s boyfriend, Luke Kennard, also posted a birthday message on Instagram, even though it seemed the couple spent the day apart.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Wish I was there to celebrate with you. I hope you have the best day and I can’t wait to see you again!” Kennard, 21, wrote in the caption.

The reality star spent the day with among friends, as seen on her Instagram.

Good friend Collins Bradshaw Cromie shared a touching message about Savannah, writing, “Most people only know you from afar and make assumptions about your heart, motives and personality.”

“I’m here to say that you have a heart of gold, the funniest, goofiest, most genuine personality and the purest of pure motives in everything you do,” Cromie continued. “To know you is to love you! Happy happy birthday @savannahchrisley !!!! I love you and can’t wait to celebrate you ALL DAY!”

Recently, Todd defended his daughter’s relationship with Kennard after reports that they had split.

“So proud of these two and how they NEVER listen to the noise,” he wrote. “@lukekennard5 @savannahchrisley I hope you guys are having an amazing time.”

Alongside the message, Todd shared a photo of the young couple, who are currently vacationing in the Cayman Islands for Savannah’s upcoming birthday.

Savannah — who stars on Chrisley Knows Best with her father and family — and Kennard confirmed they were dating back in June. Kennard was just selected by the Detroit Pistons as the 12th pick of the 2017 NBA draft.

Todd Snyder Men’s Spring 2018

Todd Snyder offered a “melting pot of fashion” in his spring collection, drawing references from around the world — Morocco, France and his own Iowa backyard.
“It’s a mish-mash of different looks,” he said backstage before his show for New York Fashion Week: Men’s on Monday night. “Active, military, sartorial.” Even his father’s propensity to wear black socks with shorts — “which always annoyed me, but now I’m doing it, too” — made an appearance.
In a show that featured a musical performance from Lewis Del Mar, those eclectic references were visible in a suit fashioned after an old French burlap coffee-bean bag, Marrakech-inspired multistripes in linen bomber jackets and a Mexican Baja white and olive hoodie.
But the big news came from a radical change in the silhouette. From oversize pleated pants, shorts and Japanese selvage jeans to softly constructed boxy-cut double-breasted suits, “the pants are much baggier,” he said. “And there are pleats everywhere. The proportion has changed a lot.”
The designer also showcased his long-standing collaboration with Champion by “resurrecting a few classics,” such as a sweater with a diagonal color-blocked design and logo T-shirts worn under blazers and top coats.
In past seasons, Snyder has been playing it safe, but with

‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Jim Parsons Marries Longtime Partner Todd Spiewak

“Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons and his longtime partner Todd Spiewak are officially married. A rep for the actor confirmed the news to People.

There aren’t many details about the wedding, but Page Six reports the nuptials took place at The Rainbow Room in New York City.

For the past couple years, Parsons has noted that he and Spiewak were never in a rush to tie the knot. When asked during a 2015 appearance on “The View” about whether he saw marriage in his future, he said, “I don’t know. I guess I kind of think so.”

“So much of my adult life, that wasn’t really a possibility, and I have grown more interested in the idea, and certainly supportive of the notion, and if my [getting] married would help the notion in general, even that would be enough to make me want to do it,” he said.

Parsons and Spiewak, a graphic designer, have been together for over 14 years. Last November, the 44-year-old star shared an Instagram photo on the couple’s anniversary and gushed about Spiewak in the caption.

“I met this guy (the one with the mic) 14 years ago today and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, no contest,” Parsons wrote. “One of his greatest gifts to me is that he no longer takes me to sing karaoke. Also, I believe this was a selfie with an actual camera, as our phones couldn’t do that back then hahaha! #todd #anniversary.”

Congrats to the happy couple!

Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ Family Considering a Joint Funeral, Todd Fisher Says

The family of Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher are reportedly considering a joint funeral for the late stars, according to Todd Fisher, Reynolds’ son.

TMZ reported the Hollywood icon’s family members are leaning toward a dual service for the mother/daughter team, with a private, small ceremony staged before a larger memorial service.

“That is my preference,” Reynolds’ son Fisher, 58, told E! of the joint plans. “Obviously it’s not finalized, but I think that sounds like a grand idea given the beautiful story between them.”

Todd explained that while there is currently no date and no confirmed location for the mother-daughter funeral and memorial, plans are in process, ABC News reported.

Carrie, 60, was aboard an 11-hour flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday when she went into cardiac arrest. She later died Tuesday in the hospital.

Reynolds died a day later at the age of 84. According to reports, she was only thinking about daughter Carrie in her final moments. Todd said she told him hours before she was rushed to the hospital: “I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie,” according to TMZ.

After their deaths, Todd tweeted a touching drawing of his mother and sister — writing, “This is a beautiful love story to witness in my 58 years. I miss them both so much. Love is everlasting.”

In addition to Todd, both are survived Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd, 24.

Todd Snyder Opens New York Flagship

Todd Snyder is putting a stake in the ground in New York.
The men’s wear designer today will open the doors to his first American flagship, a 4,500-square-foot store at 25 Madison Square North at 26th Street. The shop, right off Madison Avenue, will offer a curated assortment of Snyder’s tailored clothing and sportswear and will include pieces from his myriad collaborations with brands as varied as Champion and Globe Trotter. It will also offer a coffee shop/bar, a barbershop and an optical boutique.
“I didn’t want to open just another retail store,” Snyder said during an exclusive walk-through on Monday. “This store is all about interacting with the customer and providing a unique experience.”
He said most men remain “intimidated by shopping,” so the store is designed to “tear down the barriers” and make them comfortable.
“It’s not just a clothing store,” Snyder stressed. “It’s a great place to come for a seasonal wardrobe upgrade with a personal stylist, to get fitted for your next suit while enjoying an espresso or a beer, or to hang out with friends while getting a haircut and a shave.” The store was designed by Snyder in collaboration with James Mills.

Todd Snyder to Close Japanese Stores

TOKYO – Todd Snyder is pulling out of Japan, the market that was home to his brand’s first flagship stores.
Snyder opened his first Japan location in the hip area of Harajuku in March 2014. Called Todd Snyder Townhouse, the three-story shop carries his men’s line, as well as products from other select brands. After the Tokyo store, locations in Kyoto, Osaka and Yokohama followed.
At the time of the Tokyo opening, Snyder said, “Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.” What he likely didn’t realize at the time was that one of the things to come would be a deal with American Eagle Outfitters to sell his company for $ 11 million.
Since acquiring both the Todd Snyder brand and Tailgate, a collegiate-campus retail concept started by the designer and his father in 1991, American Eagle has been investing in store openings and flashy advertising campaigns in the U.S. The first Stateside Todd Snyder flagship will open on Dec.  6 in the Madison Park area of Manhattan, and a Tailgate store opened at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in May, with others planned for next year. The Madison Park store is expected to have elements that had proved successful in

Afloat Once More on San Francisco Opera’s Show Boat…and in Its Wake, ‘Sweeney Todd’

I just had one of the best opera experiences of my life, attending San Francisco Opera’s terrific production of The Trojans, with its gorgeous music by Hector Berlioz, monumental sets and some of the best singers performing today. (While the run for both The Trojans and Two Women has ended, this summer’s third production, The Marriage of Figaro, has one last performance on Sunday afternoon.) It made my summer, but more on all that soon.

Last summer, the opera-going highlight for me was something entirely different: Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein‘s Show Boat. That production was filmed and is now available on Blu-ray and DVD, so you have a chance to see and enjoy what I did.

Some regular opera goers, of course, were disappointed to find this musical on the short summer lineup. I certainly understand the lack of appeal of many typical Broadway musicals, with their often generic, bombastic, less than nuanced, over-miked voices. But as SFO’s delightful Porgy and Bess, which I saw in 2009, and Show Boat prove, a well-done production, with vibrant sets and costumes, good dancing, engaging acting, a top-tier orchestra (guest conductor John DeMain led the San Francisco Opera Orchestra for both Porgy and Bess and Show Boat), and singers with fine operatic voices, can be absolutely exhilarating. Think of Ezio Pinza on the cast album of South Pacific. Some enchanted evening, indeed!

Thus: Show Boat. Soprano Heidi Stober, who played Magnolia, daughter of the riverboat’s Cap’n Andy, had performed here not long before in The Magic Flute and Falstaff. Star soprano Patricia Racette sang Julie, the showboat’s leading lady, who passes for white until her mixed parentage is revealed, in the same SFO summer season in which she was Madama Butterfly. Bass Morris Robinson offered a show-stopping “Ol’ Man River,” and personally, I can’t wait to see baritone Michael Todd Simpson, who made his local debut as Gaylord Ravenal, the charming gambler who marries Magnolia, again.

A cool thing about this production, though, is that Broadway actors were cast as well. Who wouldn’t want to see the great physical actor Bill Irwin as Cap’n Andy? His hilarious one-man depiction of a fistfight is a showstopper in itself. (Speaking of versatility, Irwin won a Tony in 2005 for playing George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf!). The Broadway vets include Kirsten Wyatt (the lead in Sweet Charity, Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls), John Bolton (Spamalot, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, TV’s Gossip Girls), and Harriet Harris (On the Town, Tony winner for Thoroughly Modern Millie, the indelible Bebe Glazer on TV’s Frasier). James Asher, in a small role as the manager of the seedy Chicago cabaret in which Magnolia finds work after the dead-broke Ravenal leaves her, has acted in plays such as Love’s Labour’s Lost and The Laramie Project.

That’s a lot of names and credits. My point is that the variety of actors and voices and styles adds another level of interest and enjoyment to this show. Which must lead to a shout-out for Tod Nixon, Show Boat‘s sound designer. Unlike musical theater performers, opera singers don’t use mikes; Nixon came up with a way of placing area microphones so that the sound was consistent and clear, without that somewhat tinny, vibrating quality that microphones bring.

Premiering in 1927, Show Boat is considered the first great American musical. In 1982, Houston Grand Opera, then led by San Francisco Opera general director David Gockley, with John DeMain as its music director and principal conductor, created an “historic” production that restored much of Kern and Hammerstein’s original score and dialogue. We saw this production of Show Boat thanks to Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Washington National Opera, as well as SFO.

In his program notes, Gockley reminded us that Show Boat is “steeped in the musical language and plot issues of our native culture” and said that it could open the door at SFO to “operatic musicals” such as Carousel and Sweeney Todd. It did! Gockley’s final season with San Francisco’s great opera company opens in September with Verdi’s Luisa Miller, followed immediately by Stephen Sondheim’s delicious Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Yay!

July 5, The Marriage of Figaro; September 11, Luisa Miller opening night; September 12, Sweeney Todd opening night, War Memorial Opera House, 301 Van Ness Ave., S.F., 415.861.4008, sfopera.com.
