Meghan McCain Shares Touching Tribute to Late Father: ‘All That I Am Is Thanks to Him’

Following Sen. John McCain’s death at age 81 on Saturday after a battle with stage-four brain cancer, the late political maverick and war hero’s daughter Meghan McCain shared a touching tribute on social media.

In a message she captioned “I love you forever – my beloved father @SenJohnMcCain,” Meghan, 33, revealed that she was by her father’s side as he “departed this life today.”

“In the thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me, and supported me in all things,” she wrote. “He taught me how to live. His love and his care, ever present, always unfailing, took me from a girl to a woman — and he showed me what it is to be a man.”

When planning her wedding to Ben Domenech last fall, Meghan pushed the date forward in the wake of her father’s cancer diagnosis. Despite his tenuous health, the ailing senator was on hand for his daughter’s big day.

“All that I am is thanks to him,” she continued in her tribute. “Now that he is gone, the task of my lifetime is to live up to his example, his expectations, and his love. My father’s passing comes with sorrow and grief for me, for my mother, for my brothers, and for my sisters. He was a great fire who burned bright, and we lived in his light and warmth for so very long. We know that his flame lives on, in each of us. The days and years to come will not be the same without my dad — but they will be good days, filled with life and love, because of the example he lived for us.”

Cindy McCain, the Senator’s wife of 38 years, also mourned the loss on social media.

“My heart is broken,” tweeted Cindy, 64, minutes after her family announced his death.

“I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years,” she continued. “He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the place he loved best.”

Sen. McCain, the former POW and outspoken Republican politician nicknamed The Maverick for being unafraid to disagree with fellow members of his party, died at 4:28 p.m. on Saturday, his family announced in a statement, according to NBC News.

McCain is survived by wife Cindy, and his children: Douglas, Andrew, and Sidney (all with first wife Carol McCain) and Meghan, Jack, James, and Bridget, with Cindy.

On Friday, his family said that Sen. McCain, “with his usual strength of will,” decided to stop treatment for the stage-four brain cancer he had been battling since its diagnosis last summer.

“In the year since,” the McCain family said, “John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.”

Ian Somerhalder And Nikki Reed Celebrate Wedding Anniversary With Touching Notes

If these two don’t make you want to hold your significant other a little closer, then you truly might be a vampire.

“Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder and “Twilight” actress Nikki Reed took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate their second wedding anniversary. The pair each posted sweet notes and photos, sharing their love with each other and their fans.

Somerhalder, 38, posted a close-up shot of himself and Reed on their big day, writing, “To the most amazing human in the world. Thank you for 2 incredible years of marriage. Today, two years ago to the minute, we said ‘I do’ and I couldn’t be happier or more grateful to you for this life. Thank you for being my best friend the hardest-working, kindest, most patient and most talented woman I’ve ever known. To you my love, I say that I know we will have so many of these we can’t even count them. Partly because I’ll be so old… I love you.”

Reed, 28, wrote an equally beautiful message to her husband, calling him “my guy, my man, my honey, my partner in this life, my better half in every way.”

Alongside a black-and-white image of the two smooching at their wedding, she wrote, “At exactly this time two years ago today we walked hand in hand into the next chapter, our chapter, together. Every day gets better, every moment calling for even more. Navigating the waters of life with you is the greatest and most rewarding adventure I’ve ever known. We climb, we grow, and we laugh at all of it. Thank you for being exactly who you are, and for loving all of me. Thank you for your willingness to go even deeper. Until you, I had no idea what could be. Until you…Happy Anniversary ❤.”

Somerhalder and Reed tied the knot on April 26, 2015, during a sunset ceremony in Santa Monica, California. They began dating shortly after Reed split with her first husband, Paul McDonald, and Somerhalder ended his relationship with “Vampire Diaries” co-star Nina Dobrev. The couple got engaged in January 2015, and the rest is a lovely, romantic history.

Hairstylist’s Touching Photos Capture The Raw Reality Of Depression

One hairstylist proved to be a cut above when she helped a client experiencing a mental health condition.

In February, a woman walked into The Salon, a haircut location inside of Ulta Beauty in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and began pulling every “All Soft” product by Redken off the shelf. Kate Langman, an employee the salon, noticed what the customer was doing and approached her to see if she needed any help.

The two began to talk, and Langman soon learned that the woman had depression. She hadn’t left her bed in six months due to her mental health condition, she told Langman, and had neglected to wash or brush her hair.

Instead, the woman had pulled her hair back into a bun, which over time became a giant, matted knot.

Langman offered to do the woman’s hair, making her an appointment for the very next day.

“I have a very close family member that went through similar [mental health struggles],” Langman told The Huffington Post. “If I would have let her walk away with all of those products that she spent a hundreds of dollars on, she would have gotten nowhere — which she would have possibly viewed as another failure for her.”

But the woman didn’t show up for the appointment. Two weeks later, she called and booked another appointment. And once again, she was a no-show.

“It actually, kind of, broke my heart,” Langman wrote on Facebook.

Then, on March 9, the woman came into the salon and asked Langman if she could do her hair.

“When she walked in that [day], I had a feeling of relief,” Langman told HuffPost. “That she still had the drive to feel like herself again.”

Langman worked with the woman for over eight hours, brushing, cutting and coloring her hair. The results were phenomenal.

After the experience, Langman posted the story to Facebook, where it went viral, receiving over 16,000 shares and 35,000 likes.

“By the end of this service, I could see the sparkle in her eyes,” Langman wrote in her post.

The anonymous client’s symptoms aren’t uncommon for the more than 300 million people worldwide who experience depression. The disorder can deplete a person’s energy and motivation, making simple routines like fixing your hair feel like an excruciating task.

Langman says she’s happy that she could be there for the woman, who confirmed the story to The Huffington Post.

“I wanted her to know that there is someone that is here to help her,” Langman said. “No matter the circumstances. She needed someone she could count on and I wanted to be that person for her.”

Blake Lively Explains The Touching Reason She Joined The Women’s March

On Saturday, celebrities joined Women’s Marches around the world, walking in solidarity with millions of people standing up for women’s rights.

Among those celebrities was Blake Lively, who attended the massive event in New York City. The former “Gossip Girl” star shared a photo from the march on Instagram, in which she’s seen posing with a fellow marcher ― a young girl named Pheobe, who holds a sign that reads, “Make American Kind Again.”

In her caption, Lively explained the heartfelt reason she decided to attend the historic event.

“I marched for my daughters, for my friends, for strangers, for myself, for Phoebe here in this picture who I met as she motivated everyone she came across,” she wrote. “My march wasn’t driven by hate. It was rooted in a very simple fact― we are all equal. I believe everyone can agree on that. Thank you to everyone who marched all over the world. I felt so hopeful and deeply grateful.”

During the march, Lively also met up with her “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” co-star Amber Tamblyn, who marched in both Washington and New York.

Celine Dion’s year has been a bittersweet one.

The “Recovering” singer released a retrospective video on Thursday looking back on her tough 2016 and showcasing the strength she’s shown in the face of devastating loss.

Zero Balancing: Touching the Energy of Bone

This is the first book to describe the well-established and powerful therapy called Zero Balancing, and to explain how and why it works. Uniquely, this therapy touches simultaneously the bones and joints of the body and the flow of energy through them. Areas of the body where there is a loss of function or potential, through stress, accident or habit, may be restored to full vitality. More generally, this is a book about the anatomy and physiology of energy: where it flows, how it behaves, and its relationship to the structure of the body. Whether you are a health-care practitioner or a client of one of the many complementary therapies, this book will explain the very foundations of the use of energy in healing and show how to enhance the effects of any therapy that involves touch.

The Touching Thing This 5-Year-Old Did After Losing Her Dad To Cancer

A Wisconsin preschooler celebrated her fifth birthday with a special tribute to her father, who died of cancer.

Olesia Clark was 2 years old when her dad Kyle passed away in December 2012 after a 17-month battle with brain cancer, her mom Elizabeth told The Huffington Post.

“Olesia and Kyle were very close,” Clark said. “They spent a lot of time hanging out, going for long walks and reading books. He even took her to the gym with him where he worked part-time where she would sit behind the desk with him to greet clients.”

Around the time school ended last year, Olesia asked her mom if she could cut her hair and give it to kids who have cancer. When Clark asked her daughter why she wanted to do that, “she said that a friend from her class had done it and that she thought it was a really good thing to do,” the mom said.

As Olesia and her mom were starting to plan her fifth birthday party, they decided that would be the perfect time to make the hair donation. On July 18, Clark’s stylist friend Tracie came to their house, and cut off 12 inches of Olesia’s hair to donate to Wigs for Kids.

Though the little girl “seemed a little nervous,” her mom said Olesia’s face “lit up” in excitement when Tracie handed her the freshly cut ponytail.  ”It was a really hot and humid day so when her new cut and style was complete, she kept running her fingers through it telling me that it felt ‘so cool.'” Clark said.

Olesia then celebrated her fifth birthday with friends and family, but instead of opening traditional birthday gifts she asked guests to make donations to the Aurora Health Care Foundation to support neuro-oncology research at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.

The donations in lieu of presents idea was a suggestion from Olesia’s mom. “I asked her, ‘Would you like to ask for birthday gifts for your birthday like you do every year or since you are going to be donating your hair, would you also like to ask your friends to make donations to help people like your daddy instead of bringing gifts?'” Clark told HuffPost. “Without hesitation, her response was, ‘I want to help people like my daddy!'”

Clark said Olesia still cherishes her memories of her father. “The thing that she remembers most about him is how much fun they used to have together,” the mom said. “He was a really funny guy and she remembers that he was really funny and made her smile a lot, even when he was in the hospital.”

The mom also believes Olesia’s selflessness is making her dad very proud. “He was always proud of her, from the time she took her first breath until the time he took his last. There is not a doubt in my mind that he’s up there in Heaven, smiling down on her with pride at this very moment,” she said.

Clark hopes her family’s story will raise awareness and inspire people to donate to brain cancer research. She also hopes Olesia can inspire other people who have lost loved ones to cancer to get their children involved in the cause.

“Olesia went through a lot when her dad died and still struggles with the aftermath of losing a parent. Making the decisions to cut her hair and then to collect donations instead of birthday presents gave her a new sense of healing from her experiences,” the mom said. “It opened up an opportunity for her to talk about her dad and help others in the process. And she didn’t miss the presents at all — in fact, she still looks for donation notifications in the mail every day in hopes that more people are giving.”

Touching Mirror Experiment Proves That ‘You’re Enough Just The Way You Are’

Mirrors are devious, lying fixtures that should never be trusted to give an honest opinion.

That’s the general takeaway from “What Do Strangers Think Of You?“, a BuzzFeed video that set individuals in front of a mirror, then asked them to honestly describe themselves. At the same time, and unbeknownst to them, strangers in another room were asked to offer their opinions of the individual.

As is often the case, the people judging themselves were their harshest critics. Even more surprising: What they described as a “flaw” either went unnoticed by the stranger, or was perceived as a strength.

The video is reminiscent of the Dove’s “Real Beauty Sketches” campaign, which used a similar tactic to promote the tagline, “You are more beautiful than you think.”

Watch the uplifting video, above.
